North Korea delivers a display of military strength amid rising | :00:00. | :00:00.
tensions with America over its nuclear programme. | :00:07. | :00:11.
The state unveiled what appear to be new intercontinental missiles | :00:12. | :00:14.
Our correspondent reports from Pyongyang. | :00:15. | :00:21.
In Syria, dozens of people including children are killed after a huge | :00:22. | :00:26.
bomb hits a group waiting to be evacuated from two beseiged towns. | :00:27. | :00:31.
Everton Football Club bans journalists from The Sun | :00:32. | :00:34.
from its ground because of the controversial article written | :00:35. | :00:35.
And title-chasing Tottenham look to keep the pressure | :00:36. | :00:41.
North Korea has made a show of military strength, | :00:42. | :01:09.
putting what appear to be intercontinental missiles | :01:10. | :01:11.
on display at a massive parade in its capital Pyongyang. | :01:12. | :01:18.
It's warned the United States, which has sent an aircraft | :01:19. | :01:20.
carrier to the region, that it is ready to | :01:21. | :01:22.
The display of military hardware today has increased fears that | :01:23. | :01:27.
North Korea is moving ever closer to having a viable long-distance | :01:28. | :01:29.
Our correspondent John Sudworth is one of a group of foreign | :01:30. | :01:33.
journalists invited to the North Korean capital | :01:34. | :01:35.
His movements are being monitored and tightly controlled. | :01:36. | :01:44.
As the parade began, the ground shook, | :01:45. | :01:48.
and a city at the centre of a mounting crisis | :01:49. | :01:50.
echoed to the sound of marching feet. | :01:51. | :01:57.
Presiding over it all was Kim Jong-un, apparently | :01:58. | :02:00.
untroubled by the international pressure over | :02:01. | :02:06.
the now realistic prospect of this most totalitarian of states | :02:07. | :02:09.
becoming a fully-fledged nuclear power. | :02:10. | :02:13.
And while President Donald Trump may be promising to stop it, | :02:14. | :02:19.
This is state power expressed as mass unity, and it's meant | :02:20. | :02:30.
to send two key messages - to the North Korean people | :02:31. | :02:34.
that their young leader's grip on power is unassailable, | :02:35. | :02:39.
and to the outside world that he commands massive military might. | :02:40. | :02:44.
"We will respond to nuclear war with nuclear war," | :02:45. | :02:51.
by the rolling out of these weapons which analysts say may be | :02:52. | :03:01.
North Korea's first intercontinental ballistic missiles. | :03:02. | :03:08.
But while it may be isolated, it's resilient and often rational too. | :03:09. | :03:15.
It wants nuclear weapons not to use them but as a security guarantee. | :03:16. | :03:19.
What message does this send to the outside world? | :03:20. | :03:28.
"It shows the great strength of Korea," this woman tells me. | :03:29. | :03:31.
"We are the most proud people in the world." | :03:32. | :03:36.
The periodic crises have so far always blown over | :03:37. | :03:39.
but each time North Korea emerges one step closer to its nuclear goal. | :03:40. | :03:43.
no-one has yet worked out how to stop its advance. | :03:44. | :03:47.
So what are the options to avert any potential crisis? | :03:48. | :03:57.
Here's our Washington correspondent Laura Bicker. | :03:58. | :04:01.
These naval warships are within striking distance | :04:02. | :04:06.
North Korea is a problem, the problem will be taken care of. | :04:07. | :04:15.
North Korea has got to change its behaviour. | :04:16. | :04:17.
These talks with President Xi last week laid the groundwork. | :04:18. | :04:28.
Donald Trump said he received assurances that they would help put | :04:29. | :04:31.
an end to North Korea's nuclear ambitions. | :04:32. | :04:33.
And some believe that is why he has dispatched those warships. | :04:34. | :04:40.
Perhaps the dispatch of carrier strike force to the peninsula | :04:41. | :04:44.
is really aimed at motivating the Chinese, to tell Beijing | :04:45. | :04:49.
that the United States is serious and wants to see China put a lot | :04:50. | :04:53.
China is already applying pressure at its border and placed a ban | :04:54. | :04:59.
If President Trump is weighing his options, | :05:00. | :05:04.
The US could also push for more UN sanctions but critics believe that | :05:05. | :05:13.
punishes the people of North Korea, not its leaders. | :05:14. | :05:15.
The Pentagon has denied any suggestion of a pre-emptive | :05:16. | :05:17.
But Donald Trump's actions in Syria prove he is a President prepared | :05:18. | :05:25.
to take action quickly and without warning. | :05:26. | :05:29.
US troops in Afghanistan are advancing after the dropping | :05:30. | :05:33.
of a massive bunker-busting bomb known as the Mother Of All Bombs. | :05:34. | :05:37.
A display of firepower from the world's strongest military | :05:38. | :05:41.
that might just make Kim Jong-un think twice about | :05:42. | :05:43.
Meanwhile, the Vice-President, Mike Pence, is on his way to Seoul | :05:44. | :05:51.
to reassure Asian allies and offer them an iron-clad commitment | :05:52. | :05:54.
His message is that the US will do whatever is necessary | :05:55. | :05:58.
How likely is it President Trump would go for a military option? | :05:59. | :06:14.
Despite US media reports earlier in the week, that the president was | :06:15. | :06:18.
considering a pre-emptive strike against North Korea, our | :06:19. | :06:22.
understanding is that is far from their minds at the moment. | :06:23. | :06:29.
The policy seems to be more one of continued pressure, deploying | :06:30. | :06:32.
diplomacy along with those noble strikeforce is, just to turn up that | :06:33. | :06:36.
pressure a bit more. The most likely scenario if North | :06:37. | :06:41.
Korea does test and other nuclear missile would be further sanctions. | :06:42. | :06:46.
Already, China has banned imports of coal from North Korea, they could | :06:47. | :06:52.
move to oil, stopping oil imports from the north. That could cripple | :06:53. | :06:58.
North Korea's economy. When it comes to the test Donald Trump has had in | :06:59. | :07:04.
his foreign policy strategy, it has been an evolving one. After months | :07:05. | :07:11.
of isolationist talks, discussions putting America first, President | :07:12. | :07:15.
Trump's views have put the US back at the centre of the world stage. | :07:16. | :07:20.
A massive suicide car bomb in Syria has hit a convoy of buses | :07:21. | :07:24.
on the outskirts of Aleppo where thousands of people from two | :07:25. | :07:27.
besieged government-held villages were waiting to be taken to safety. | :07:28. | :07:29.
More than 40 people are reported to have been killed. | :07:30. | :07:31.
In the immediate aftermath, a man runs towards the site | :07:32. | :07:43.
of the huge explosion, filming the horrifying | :07:44. | :07:45.
It is believed a suicide bomber carried out this | :07:46. | :07:52.
attack, reportedly driving a van carrying aid supplies. | :07:53. | :07:58.
TRANSLATION: I can't describe it, I am | :07:59. | :08:00.
You can see dozens of burnt-out cars, bodies everywhere. | :08:01. | :08:10.
Emergency staff and opposition factions are | :08:11. | :08:11.
The target was this convoy of buses carrying | :08:12. | :08:16.
children finally able to leave their villages which had | :08:17. | :08:23.
been under siege for years in Syria's | :08:24. | :08:25.
Since last night, the convoy had been held up | :08:26. | :08:33.
on the road near Aleppo because of a hitch in | :08:34. | :08:35.
the deal agreed between Government forces and the rebels | :08:36. | :08:38.
That left everyone here very exposed to an attack. | :08:39. | :08:45.
With so many killed and injured in this | :08:46. | :08:47.
bombing, there are fears of revenge attacks | :08:48. | :08:49.
and an end to further agreements to get people out other | :08:50. | :08:57.
For those who survive this attack, the aim now is | :08:58. | :09:02.
to get them to safe areas as quickly as possible. | :09:03. | :09:05.
Some are already reported to be getting back on | :09:06. | :09:07.
buses, leaving the horror of this day behind them. | :09:08. | :09:11.
The parents of a Birmingham University student who was stabbed | :09:12. | :09:20.
to death on a tram in Jerusalem have said they're "devastated" | :09:21. | :09:22.
Hannah Bladon who was 20 and from Burton upon Trent | :09:23. | :09:31.
was in Israel as part of an exchange programme. | :09:32. | :09:33.
Her parents said she was the "most caring" | :09:34. | :09:35.
Israeli police have arrested a Palestinian man who they say has | :09:36. | :09:39.
Everton Football Club has banned Sun newspaper journalists | :09:40. | :09:44.
from its ground following an article written by the paper's columnist | :09:45. | :09:47.
In it he compared the intelligence of Everton footballer Ross Barkley | :09:48. | :09:52.
The Mayor of Liverpool has called for the newspaper to sack | :09:53. | :09:59.
Mr McKenzie for making what he called "racial slurs". | :10:00. | :10:01.
From Goodison Park, Frankie McCamley reports. | :10:02. | :10:08.
The footballer in the centre of it all, Everton midfielder | :10:09. | :10:12.
Ross Barkley, whose grandfather was Nigerian, compared | :10:13. | :10:16.
And the man who wrote it, Kelvin MacKenzie, now suspended. | :10:17. | :10:20.
He also claims the only other people in Liverpool earning as much | :10:21. | :10:23.
I've reported it to Merseyside Police and they're | :10:24. | :10:28.
I have also written to the Press Complaints Commission. | :10:29. | :10:35.
The comments I believe were overtly racist. | :10:36. | :10:36.
The club reacted quickly, banning the Sun, stating | :10:37. | :10:40.
the newspaper has to know any attack on this city is not acceptable. | :10:41. | :10:47.
It follows a long-running hatred towards the newspaper | :10:48. | :10:53.
who blamed fans for the Hillsborough disaster that left 96 dead. | :10:54. | :10:56.
With applause at today's match to mark the 28th anniversary. | :10:57. | :11:05.
The Sun's publisher News UK has apologised | :11:06. | :11:07.
for the offence caused, saying it was unaware | :11:08. | :11:09.
of Ross Barkley's heritage and there was never any slur intended. | :11:10. | :11:15.
Mr MacKenzie says it was beyond parody to describe | :11:16. | :11:17.
Outside the stadium, fans welcomed the news. | :11:18. | :11:20.
What he said about Ross Barkley I think is shocking, | :11:21. | :11:23.
I think it's disgraceful the way he spoke about Ross Barkley | :11:24. | :11:28.
and the way he described the people of Liverpool and they | :11:29. | :11:31.
His article should be proof-read anyway by the editors, | :11:32. | :11:34.
so for them to let that go to press, I think it's quite poor. | :11:35. | :11:39.
Many will question why the paper, which he edited for many years, | :11:40. | :11:41.
The Sun knew enough to make sure that MacKenzie didn't refer | :11:42. | :11:56.
to Liverpool, especially on the anniversary of | :11:57. | :11:58.
So it was a gross editorial oversight. | :11:59. | :12:01.
Arriving here this morning, fans said they were angry | :12:02. | :12:03.
Following the club's announcement to ban the Sun, | :12:04. | :12:09.
those feelings have somewhat subsided this evening, but many say | :12:10. | :12:12.
It's understood Rupert Murdoch will be consulted before a decision | :12:13. | :12:20.
is made about Mr MacKenzie's future which may depend on a | :12:21. | :12:23.
The world's oldest person has died in Italy at the age of 117. | :12:24. | :12:33.
Emma Morano was born on 29 November 1899 | :12:34. | :12:34.
She was officially the last person born in the 19th | :12:35. | :12:43.
Ms Morano had attributed her longevity to her genetics and a diet | :12:44. | :12:47.
of three eggs a day, two of them raw. | :12:48. | :12:53.

Reunited, they combined for Tottenham to make it two. | :13:53. | :14:02.
Spurs have turned White Hart Lane into a fortress, no Premiership team | :14:03. | :14:06.
has a better home record and Kane, as he showed again, is one | :14:07. | :14:09.
of the main reasons why, 25 goals in all competitions. | :14:10. | :14:13.
Goals could prove crucial if Tottenham do push | :14:14. | :14:15.

two points from safety after losing to Hamilton. | :15:04. | :15:09.
And there were wins for second-placed Aberdeen, Rangers, | :15:10. | :15:11.
Formula One, and a Mercedes driver is on pole position | :15:12. | :15:16.
for tomorrow's Bahrain Grand Prix, but it isn't Lewis Hamilton. | :15:17. | :15:20.
His new team mate this season, Valtteri Bottas, snatched | :15:21. | :15:22.
the front spot in the final seconds of qualifying. | :15:23. | :15:25.
It's Bottas' first pole position of his career. | :15:26. | :15:27.

Good evening. The day maybe call, where you saw the cloud and showers | :16:38. | :16:57.
but it looked the part when the sun was out. | :16:58. | :17:02.
These guys tomorrow will be different and there may be some rain | :17:03. | :17:06.
at times. It is this area of cloud causing | :17:07. | :17:14.
problems. Tonight it will introduce more cloud over western areas, | :17:15. | :17:19.
patchy rain over Northern Ireland, with clearer skies to the south and | :17:20. | :17:25.
east, there may be a touch of frost into Sunday morning. | :17:26. | :17:31.
This weather system looks further north, meaning a better time for | :17:32. | :17:37.
southern Scotland, a dry day across the south. Some outbreaks of rain. | :17:38. | :17:42.
At lunchtime, rather cool, particularly southern Scotland and | :17:43. | :17:50.
North England. A better feeling day than today. Some hazy sunshine | :17:51. | :17:54.
across the south. The rain will make its way through the latter stages of | :17:55. | :18:02.
Sunday. A flow of cold air will come from the north. There will be a lot | :18:03. | :18:07.
more sunshine around, and drier weather. Showers will be fleeting. | :18:08. | :18:13.
