Two lorry drivers have been charged with causing death | :01:20. | :01:24.
by dangerous driving, after eight people in a minibus | :01:25. | :01:27.
were killed in a crash on the M1 near Newport Pagnell yesterday. | :01:28. | :01:29.

The driver of the minibus, who's among the dead, | :01:33. | :01:36.
His family and friends attended a church service | :01:37. | :01:42.
Is a church service held this morning to remember Cyriac Joseph. | :01:43. | :02:01.
The minibus is private lost his life in a crash on the MWarren which left | :02:02. | :02:09.
eight people dead. Tributes were paid today. Such a family orientated | :02:10. | :02:14.
man, very genuine ungentlemanly. Personally, he was a close friend of | :02:15. | :02:17.
mine. He was just like a brother to me. Friends at the service wanted to | :02:18. | :02:22.
share memories of this well-known churchgoer. In unity, we all stand | :02:23. | :02:33.
for him. We lost a beloved friend. Cyriac Joseph lived on this quiet | :02:34. | :02:36.
cul-de-sac on the edge of Nottingham. Today, local people have | :02:37. | :02:40.
discovered that their neighbour lost his life while at work. One | :02:41. | :02:45.
described him as a lovely man, and another neighbour said he | :02:46. | :02:48.
occasionally saw Mr Joseph in the front garden playing cricket with | :02:49. | :02:53.
his children. He was driving a minibus from his company is when the | :02:54. | :03:00.
collision happened near Newport Pagnell on Saturday morning put up | :03:01. | :03:03.
two Lloris, one from FedEx and another from AIN Logistics, were | :03:04. | :03:08.
involved in the accident. Both companies have expressed sympathy | :03:09. | :03:13.
for those who have lost loved ones. And to the four people, including a | :03:14. | :03:16.
five-year-old girl, who were taken to hospital. Today, an IT company | :03:17. | :03:23.
confirmed that three of its employees died in the crash and | :03:24. | :03:26.
another member of staff is seriously ill. Both lorry drivers have been | :03:27. | :03:33.
charged with eight counts of causing death by dangerous driving. One of | :03:34. | :03:40.
them, a 31-year-old from Evesham, has also been charged with | :03:41. | :03:43.
drink-driving. He has been remanded in custody to appear in court | :03:44. | :03:47.
tomorrow. The other driver, David Wagstaff, who is 53 and from | :03:48. | :03:52.
Stoke-on-Trent, has been bailed to appear before magistrates next | :03:53. | :03:55.
month. Spencer Stokes, BBC News, Nottingham. | :03:56. | :03:58.
For the first time, the Labour Party has committed to keeping the UK | :03:59. | :04:01.
in the single market and customs union during any transitional period | :04:02. | :04:04.
The Shadow Brexit Secretary, Sir Keir Starmer, says | :04:05. | :04:08.
withdrawing from both at once would be too risky. | :04:09. | :04:11.
The shift in policy does mean the UK continuing to accept | :04:12. | :04:14.
Our political correspondent Iain Watson reports. | :04:15. | :04:24.
is Labour's leadership have always been clear - they respect the result | :04:25. | :04:31.
of the EU referendum. But they have been left cleat -- less clear about | :04:32. | :04:35.
what sort of Brexit they want. Now the shadow Brexit secretary and the | :04:36. | :04:38.
Labour leader have agreed on a direction of travel, and in the | :04:39. | :04:41.
transitional period immediately after we leave the EU, our current | :04:42. | :04:45.
relationship would basically stay in place. Writing in the Observer, Kia | :04:46. | :04:50.
Starmer says: That means we would seek to remain in a customs union | :04:51. | :04:54.
with the EU and within the single market during this period. It means | :04:55. | :04:57.
we will abide by the common rules of both. Never mind talks between | :04:58. | :05:04.
Britain and Brussels, as I understand it, there have been | :05:05. | :05:08.
intense negotiations within Labour's ranks to clarify the position. Well, | :05:09. | :05:12.
what does abiding by EU rules actually mean? It would mean, for | :05:13. | :05:16.
example, the continuation of free movement of Luvvies Labour, -- | :05:17. | :05:30.
labour. they're not putting a time limit on it. we want to say that | :05:31. | :05:37.
they need to reach an arrangement that maintains the long term | :05:38. | :05:40.
relationship between trading with europe and jobs within this country. | :05:41. | :05:43.
and we need to look at trading arrangements with the rest of the | :05:44. | :05:47.
world. jeremy corbyn is speaking at the edinburgh festival, but behind | :05:48. | :05:50.
the scenes in labour, there has been pressure on him to go even further | :05:51. | :05:54.
and commit to permanent single market membership. people would like | :05:55. | :05:59.
to see the labour party committing to single market membership and | :06:00. | :06:02.
customs union after the transition period after the uk has left the eu. | :06:03. | :06:08.
but some labour mps who voted to leave the eu disagreed. jeremy | :06:09. | :06:13.
chardy on a journey. Where did he start of what is he saying today? I | :06:14. | :06:18.
have not been on a journey, I campaigned for us to come out. | :06:19. | :06:23.
People can keep the faith with those of us Labour MPs who campaigned to | :06:24. | :06:26.
come out and to know that we're not doing any ratting or you turning or | :06:27. | :06:32.
anything else. At the last election, Jeremy Corbyn managed to pull off a | :06:33. | :06:37.
delicate balancing act, appealing both to Remain an Leave voters. This | :06:38. | :06:41.
may be a more difficult feat for him to repeat as he clarified his | :06:42. | :06:45.
position on Brexit. Ian Watson, BBC News. | :06:46. | :06:48.
In America, more than a thousand people have been rescued from rising | :06:49. | :06:51.
The heavy rain has been described as "catastrophic" and a major | :06:52. | :06:54.
emergency has been declared, with hundreds still stranded. | :06:55. | :06:56.
Our correspondent James Cook in is Houston. | :06:57. | :07:06.
Thanks very much indeed, Clive. Across this city right now, an | :07:07. | :07:12.
unprecedented crisis is unfolding. Hundreds of rescues are taking place | :07:13. | :07:16.
at this very moment, and we have just heard in the past few seconds | :07:17. | :07:19.
that this weather event is on a scale never before recorded in | :07:20. | :07:23.
history, with the possibility of rainfall reaching up to 50 inches, | :07:24. | :07:31.
the most ever seen in this state. Harvey arrived in Houston with a | :07:32. | :07:34.
vengeance, no longer backing the full force of a hurricane, but still | :07:35. | :07:39.
deadly. In just 24 hours, more than two feet of rain fell on the fourth | :07:40. | :07:42.
largest city in the United States. The results are devastating. This | :07:43. | :07:48.
appears to be either the worst one of the worst floods Houston has ever | :07:49. | :07:52.
had, and we are measuring it not in inches but in feet. Houston has | :07:53. | :07:57.
ground to a halt, and with the rain still teeming down, the waters keep | :07:58. | :08:02.
on rising. Police are urging people not to venture out, not to risk | :08:03. | :08:06.
their lives, and this is why. Pedro told us he was almost swept away. I | :08:07. | :08:12.
got stuck so I had to find a way to come home. I had to walk all the way | :08:13. | :08:16.
there, and the rescue boat is over there, but it was helping someone | :08:17. | :08:20.
else, so... There are rescues happening at there? Yeah. The storm | :08:21. | :08:25.
has crippled transport and let people struggling to go about their | :08:26. | :08:28.
lives. Right now, it is hard to believe that this is the richest | :08:29. | :08:33.
nation on earth. You get the sense here of just how quickly this | :08:34. | :08:36.
situation is unfolding. The flooding clearly caught these drivers by | :08:37. | :08:40.
surprise, and still the rain is coming down, with no sign of it | :08:41. | :08:44.
stopping. The authorities are struggling to cope. They are calling | :08:45. | :08:48.
for more boats to be sent in. More than 2000 people in need of rescue | :08:49. | :08:52.
have called the emergency services, and the Mayor is trying to stem a | :08:53. | :08:57.
sense of panic. Were coming to you, OK? We want people to know in this | :08:58. | :09:03.
city, if you are there, there is a need, we will get to you. I would | :09:04. | :09:06.
simply ask that you remain calm, remain a little patient. We will get | :09:07. | :09:14.
to you. 16 years ago, this city was devastated by the most serious | :09:15. | :09:19.
flooding in its history. Already, this is looking worse. James Cook, | :09:20. | :09:20.
BBC News, Houston. The 51st Notting Hill Carnival has | :09:21. | :09:26.
opened in West London with the release of doves | :09:27. | :09:28.
and a minute's silence observed in memory of those who died | :09:29. | :09:30.
in the Grenfell Tower Firefighters and paramedics | :09:31. | :09:33.
were among those who bowed Carnival-goers have been asked | :09:34. | :09:36.
to wear something green to remember Well, you can see the streets of | :09:37. | :09:56.
Notting Hill are packed. You can hear the sound systems playing | :09:57. | :10:01.
reggae and other musics. There is the smell of chicken wafting through | :10:02. | :10:05.
the air, and of course, the glorious outfits. Today has also been hugely | :10:06. | :10:09.
emotional. As well as celebration, there has been commemoration. A lot | :10:10. | :10:15.
of today has been about narrate it -- honouring the people who died in | :10:16. | :10:20.
a Grenfell Tower disaster, and many more who became homeless. It started | :10:21. | :10:34.
with a song to heal broken hearts. A promise of strength. Grenfell, we | :10:35. | :10:43.
are united. Amen. And then, with the joyous sounds and vibrant colours of | :10:44. | :10:49.
carnival, they celebrated the lives of those taken by tragedy. Many wore | :10:50. | :10:54.
green for Grenfell, a colour symbolising growth and renewal. We | :10:55. | :10:59.
are doing this in honour of the victims, to be honest with you. I | :11:00. | :11:05.
have got my own relatives who died. We love the Carnival, Kadija loves | :11:06. | :11:18.
the Carnival. We're bringing back colour and bringing back life. At | :11:19. | :11:22.
times, those watching the procession were overwhelmed, sad and for those | :11:23. | :11:26.
who once had a front row seat to the biggest street party in Europe. But | :11:27. | :11:30.
with laughter and love, Carnival paid respect in the way it knows | :11:31. | :11:35.
how. To bring us all together as a caring, sharing community, that we | :11:36. | :11:40.
are all one Love, one community, and together, we are much more | :11:41. | :11:43.
successful, and together, we celebrate the best of Britain. There | :11:44. | :11:48.
have been moments of reflection, stillness and solitude, as well as | :11:49. | :11:54.
gratitude for those who saved lives. Carnival has always had its roots | :11:55. | :11:59.
film rarely within this community -- firmly within this community. It was | :12:00. | :12:04.
started by immigrants who are facing racism, inequality and poor housing. | :12:05. | :12:08.
Much of this still resonates on the streets of Notting Hill today. Since | :12:09. | :12:12.
Grenfell Tower, the sense of community is important. We have | :12:13. | :12:15.
already had a minute's silence for them and everything. Everyone had | :12:16. | :12:24.
that minute. It is a good spirit right now, good vibes. Notting Hill | :12:25. | :12:28.
Carnival will always symbolise celebration, freedom, but in the | :12:29. | :12:32.
shadow of Grenfell, it has a new purpose, as a voice for a community | :12:33. | :12:36.
trying to heal. Elaine Dunkley, BBC News. | :12:37. | :12:39.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather says he's retired for good | :12:43. | :12:44.
after defeating Conor McGregor, the mixed martial arts specialist. | :12:45. | :12:46.
The Irish fighter switched sports to take on the American. | :12:47. | :12:51.
Their money-spinning fight stopped in the tenth round, | :12:52. | :12:54.

Floyd Mayweather Junior confirmed his position as one | :12:57. | :13:01.
of the all-time greats in a fight that surpassed expectations. | :13:02. | :13:11.
There's only one, McGregor. A sense of hope and anticipation had built | :13:12. | :13:23.
throughout the day. If he can land one of his left and shot, he could | :13:24. | :13:28.
do it. And Floyd Mayweather was not without support. 49 fights, 49 wins. | :13:29. | :13:38.
McGregor emerged all guns blazing, catching Mayweather with a number of | :13:39. | :13:42.
powerful shot, but in his first professional boxing contest, the | :13:43. | :13:45.
pace and skills of Mayweather ground the Irishman down, and he visibly | :13:46. | :13:49.
tired. By the ninth round, McGregor's legs began to wobble, | :13:50. | :13:53.
clinging to his opponent and the ropes for survival. The next round | :13:54. | :13:57.
saw the end of a fight that has intrigued and repulsed in equal | :13:58. | :14:00.
measure. With all its controversies and the amount of money involved. | :14:01. | :14:05.
Some believed this fight would be a fast, and in the, it was far from | :14:06. | :14:12.
it, but the remains. So too, the deep unease about a fight that was | :14:13. | :14:16.
primarily put on for the money. It was a very enjoyable experience, and | :14:17. | :14:20.
a great learning experience, so I am very happy with it, in all honesty. | :14:21. | :14:26.
