Good afternoon.

The Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson

is in Iran, where he's

expected to press the authorities

to release Nazanin

Zaghari-Ratcliffe, and others

with British-Iranian dual

citizenship,

on humanitarian grounds.

Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe is serving

a five-year prison term on charges

of spying and trying to overthrow

the Iranian government,

which she denies.

Adina Campbell reports.

A big day for the British

Foreign Secretary.

Ahead of a highly anticipated

meeting, Boris Johnson greeted

by his Iranian counterpart,

looked keen to get the discussions

off to a quick start.

Where the topic of the imprisonment

of dual nationals will be

high on the agenda.

One of them is Nazanin

Zaghair-Ratcliffe, seen

here with her daughter,

whom she has been away

from since being arrested

in Tehran 18 months ago.

The Iranian authorities have accused

the 37-year-old of spying and trying

to overthrow their government,

something she and her family

have strongly denied.

In a statement, Boris Johnson said

he will raise grave concerns over

the imprisonment of dual nationals

where there are humanitarian

grounds to do so.

Her British husband,

Richard Ratcliffe, has been

campaigning tirelessly

for his wife's release.

It was made very clear that we

should not expect any miracles.

The one thing I did ask,

which Richard Ratcliffe

and the family have been asking,

is whether he can arrange for a visa

for Richard Ratcliffe to go to Iran.

As well as this case,

there will be a number of other

issues Boris Johnson will be hoping

to discuss, including Britain's

continued support for the nuclear

deal with Iran and concerns

about Iran's involvement

in conflicts, notably

in Yemen and Syria.

At least two people have been killed

in Israeli air strikes in Gaza.

The Israeli authorities say

they were targeting Hamas military

positions after rockets were fired

from there into southern Israel.

Four people are now known

to have died in violence

since President Trump announced

America would move its embassy

from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The Palestinians are continuing to

show their anger over President

Trump's recognition as Jerusalem as

the capital. There have been clashes

in Bethlehem and student held

protest rallies. Yesterday was the

first day of rage declared by

Palestinians and two protesters were

killed in confrontation with Israeli

troops in Gaza and many were wounded

across the Palestinian territories

by tear gas, rubber bullets. Hamas

have called for a new Palestinian

uprising.

TRANSLATION:

We announce that we

will launch protests everywhere in

and out of Palestine, starting from

today there will be no route to

retreat, no red line for us.

Overnight the Israeli military said

air strikes targeted a base of the

military wing of Hamas killing two

members. It came after rockets were

fired towards Israel from Gaza. But

the level of violence so far appears

containable as far as Israel is

concerned. But international

criticism of President Trump's move

has not been muted with protests in

the Arab and Muslim world and top

officials from Saudi Arabia and UAE

have warned that the move has given

extremists a new lease of life.

There is almost no support so far

for President Trump's view that the

peace process needed a shock to the

system. And scepticism over his new

initiative for piece due to be

unveiled in the New Year is only

growing as the consequences of his

actions play out in Gaza and the

West Bank.

Voters can use the next general

election to have their say

on a final deal with

the European Union, according

to one of the leading

Brexiteers in the Cabinet.

The Environment Secretary,

Michael Gove, made his comments

in the Daily Telegraph,

a day after Theresa May's

agreement in Brussels cleared

the way for trade talks.

He said if voters didn't

like the final deal,

they could force a future government

to change course.

Wildfires in southern

California show little sign

of letting up as hot,

dry winds continue

to fan the flames.

One woman has died and more

than 200,000 people

have fled their homes,

with more preparing

to evacuate today.

President Trump has declared

a state of emergency,

as Sarah Corker reports.

In the mountains north

of Los Angeles, wildfires continue

to roar through the forests

of Ventura County.

Dry winds are fanning the flames,

causing them to spread rapidly,

and cutting across highways.

These guys are scrambling.

And the thick plumes

of smoke billow for miles.

Across southern California,

tens of thousands of

people have already fled.

And this is the destruction

they are escaping from.

I always equate these to my family

friends as disaster war

zones is what you see,

with the homes that are lost,

and the tragedy that hits

all of these families that live

in these areas.

Some people now returning home see

what, if anything, they can salvage

from the charred wreckage.

It's unbelievable, it's

devastating, it is horrific.

There is nothing left.

Not a darn thing.

The first fires broke out on Monday

reaching the exclusive area

of Bel-Air, threatening the mansions

of Hollywood stars.

At night it looks like

a volcano erupting.

From Santa Barbara to LA

to San Diego, more than 8,000

firefighters are trying to contain

to San Diego, more than 8,000

the worst fires in living memory.

Strong winds forecast

through the weekend are making

for extremely dangerous conditions.

Weather warnings are still

in place for large parts

of the UK, with more snow

and freezing temperatures forecast.

This was the scene in

Shropshire this morning.

A yellow warning for snow and ice

will remain for parts

of the Midlands, Scotland,

Northern Ireland and Wales

until this evening.

Olivia Richwald is at

a gritting station in Oldham.

What's the situation there?

It has recently just stop snowing.

It was snowing much of the morning

in Oldham in Greater Manchester.

There is an east-west divide across

the North. In the East the snow has

not hit but here the gritting team

are preparing for a busy night. In

Oldham the team covers 850

kilometres of roads and about one

third gritted. The team have worked

24 hours a day since Thursday to

keep major routes passable and

expect to use 600 tonnes of grit

over the weekend and that gripped

mountain is getting smaller and they

have had to order more. Heavy snow

is expected over much of northern

England overnight with temperatures

as low as minus six degrees, so a

very busy night here.

Huge crowds of people have lined

the streets of central Paris to pay

homage to Johnny Hallyday,

who died of cancer on Wednesday.

He was 74.

The coffin of the rock star -

who was known as the French Elvis -

is driven down the

Champs Elysees, flanked

by hundreds of bikers,

riding along to the music

of the singer.

We can cross to the BBC sports

One of England's back-up players

on their Ashes tour, Ben Duckett,

has paid the price for pouring

a drink over the head of team-mate

James Anderson at a bar in Perth.

The 23-year-old has been suspended

pending an investigation

and the problem for the coaching

staff is the timing given previous

trouble on the tour.

It is fairly trivial, I think, but

in the current climate it is not

acceptable. Everybody has been

warned about how small things can be

blown out of proportion. The ECB

have been strict with the boys to

the message.

David Moyes will be hoping

to secure his first win

since taking charge

of West Ham United

as they take on Chelsea,

at the first Premier League fixture

of the day.

The reigning champions have

conceded just four goals

in their last seven

in all competitions.

Less than three months ago British

aerial skier Lloyd Wallace suffered

a severe head injury

and was placed in an induced coma

after a crash in training.

His hopes of competing

at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics

looked over, but the 22-year-old has

made a quite remarkable recovery

and now he's back on the snow

looking to make his Olympic

dream a reality.

Nick Hope has been to meet him.

Aerial skiing is the definition of

extreme sport.

You get up to 70

kilometres per hour and in front is

a four metre giant ramp and we do

twists and go up to 15 beaters.

An

adrenaline rush. It is a sport with

clear rewards and also risk, Lloyd

Wallace became aware off in August

after hitting his head in a freak

training crash.

I do not remember

any of it. I lost a few days of

memory. I was flown to hospital and

put into an induced coma. When I

woke up my balance was gone. It was

scary, but brain injuries you often

lose your balance and I have been

through a lot the past months and I

have been lucky in my recovery and

the injury was not as bad as first

thought and I have just got back on

snow and on skis and it was the best

feeling.

Britain has not had an

aerial skier at the Olympics since

98 but now he is back training, he

is confident about ending that

unwanted run and extending his

family association with the

Olympics.

It has been a dream to

represent Team GB and follow in my

family footsteps. My grandfather

went to the Olympics in 48 and my

uncle went to the Olympics for

cycling and my parents went to the

Olympics.

An amazing honour. He

knows that safely landing a top 20

world ranking in the next month will

secure him a place at the Winter

Olympics. What a fabulous comeback.
