In a crucial week for the Brexit
talks, a senior minister says | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
the Government is more united
than Conservative critics think. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:13
With a position on trade
and customs arrangements due | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
to be agreed within days,
the Home Secretary says | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
the Government will get a good deal. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:25
We want frictionless trade at the
border. We want to make sure there | 0:00:25 | 0:00:32
is no border on the island of
Ireland, and we want to make sure we | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
are free to make trade deals outside
the EU. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
We'll be analysing the pressure
on the Prime Minister | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
from Brexiteers within her party. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
Also tonight: | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
Crunch talks for South
Africa's President Zuma - | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
will party officials persuade him
to stand down? | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
Sinn Fein's policing spokesman
is accused of causing criminal | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
damage after removing a parking
clamp from his car. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:54
And seven tries for England
as they sweep aside Italy | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
in the Six Nations. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
Good evening. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
In a crucial week for talks
with the EU over future trade | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
arrangements, the Home Secretary
says the UK will not | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
'surrender too quickly'
in its bid for a bespoke deal. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
Amber Rudd also hit out
at the Brexiteer Conservative MPs, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
saying the Cabinet was more united
on Brexit than they might think. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:35
Tomorrow, the EU's chief negotiator,
Michel Barnier, will be | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
in London for talks. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
Later in the week, a Cabinet
committee will be seeking | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
to agree on future policy. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:43
Our political correspondent,
Eleanor Garnier, reports. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:51
Putting the UK on the world map,
the Prime Minister's been preparing | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
for life outside the EU,
taking tea | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
in China, and helping to secure
billions of pounds of business | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
deals. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
But reaching agreement on the other
side of the world perhaps much | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
easier than solving
disagreements in her own | 0:02:08 | 0:02:15
of disunity about the type
of Brexit they want. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
I have a surprise for the
Brexiteers, which is the committee | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
that meet in order to help
make these decisions | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
and is meeting, as you | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
rightly say, twice this week is more
united than they think. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
We meet in the committee,
we meet privately | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
for discussions. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
I think that we will arrive
at something which suits | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
us all. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
Exactly how we trade with the EU
after Brexit is the source of | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
division in the Tories. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
Some want complete
disentanglement from | 0:02:36 | 0:02:37
Brussels - others hope to stay
as close to the EU as possible. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
The Home Secretary
believes the Government's | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
priorities are clear. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:47
We want frictionless
trade at the border, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
we want to make sure there's no
border on the island of Ireland, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
and we want to make
sure that we can do | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
trade deals outside
of the | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56 | |
European Union. | 0:02:56 | 0:03:04
That's the deal wer're looking for. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:05
But it's clear to all
in the Conservative Party how | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
difficult it will be
to get everyone on site. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
There are inherent tensions
in dealing with Brexit because | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
different people take
different views. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
It's not just in the Conservative
Party, not just in the | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
Labour Party - it's
across the country. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:17
It actually needs a bit of a team
effort here, that's what I'm | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
saying loud and clear. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
So far, the Prime
Minister has managed to | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
prevent that decades-old split in
the Conservative Party over Europe | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
from spilling out into something
much more serious, something that | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
could lead to the collapse
of her Government. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
But this week, there are crucial
cabinet meetings here, with | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
pressure to finally pin down
an agreed position on our future | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
relationship with the EU. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:36
But it's not just a battle
at home - winning | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
in Brussels is key, too. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:40
And with more negotiations
with the EU this | 0:03:40 | 0:03:43
week, the next few days could be
pivotal for the Prime Minister and | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
the country. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:51
Eleanor is here now. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:56
Will we, by the end of the week,
have clarity on the position we are | 0:03:56 | 0:04:00
going to take in the Brexit talks?
That is certainly the aim. You will | 0:04:00 | 0:04:06
remember the phrase Brexit means
Brexit that the Prime Minister used | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
to use. The pressure is on the
Government this would finally make | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
its mind up about what Brexit
actually does mean. After the trip | 0:04:12 | 0:04:17
to China, Brexit is firmly back on
the agenda, right at the top, | 0:04:17 | 0:04:21
because we have the EU chief
negotiator in Downing Street | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
tomorrow for | 0:04:24 | 0:04:29
talks. Later in the week, that small
group of senior ministers in the | 0:04:49 | 0:04:51
Brexit Cabinet will get together for
those critical talks, and surely | 0:04:51 | 0:04:54
compromise, because Theresa May has
found it difficult enough to get | 0:04:54 | 0:04:56
agreement among her ministers
throughout the negotiations so far, | 0:04:56 | 0:04:57
so getting consent is this week is
likely to be more complicated than | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
what has gone before. It is that
decision on whether to bind tightly | 0:05:00 | 0:05:03
to the EU when the leave to pull far
apart that is the dividing line | 0:05:03 | 0:05:06
between the two competing factions
in the Conservative Party. One side | 0:05:06 | 0:05:08
will need to give in order for there
to be an agreed Government position. | 0:05:08 | 0:05:11
A deal is wanted by October, to
leave time for it to be voted on, so | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
time is running out. As one minister
told me this week, it isn't going to | 0:05:14 | 0:05:17
get easier with time. Eleanor, thank
you. | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19 | |
Two people have been killed
and at least 116 injured in a rail | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
crash in the US state of South
Carolina. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
An Amtrak passenger train travelling
between New York and Miami collided | 0:05:24 | 0:05:26
with a freight service,
with more than 140 people on board. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
South Carolina's governor said it
appeared that the passenger train | 0:05:29 | 0:05:31
had been on the wrong track
at the time of the crash. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:36
Senior officials from South Africa's
governing ANC are meeting | 0:05:36 | 0:05:38
President Zuma tonight as he faces
increasing pressure to stand down. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
Many officials would like to replace
him after allegations of corruption | 0:05:41 | 0:05:43
and to avoid a long power struggle
before elections take | 0:05:43 | 0:05:46
place next year. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:47
Our Southern Africa correspondent,
Andrew Harding, reports. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:55
He's swamped by scandal. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:02
South Africa's President, Jacob
Zuma, has already been found guilty | 0:06:02 | 0:06:04
of breaking his oath of office
when he upgraded his private home | 0:06:04 | 0:06:07
lavishly at the taxpayer's expense. | 0:06:07 | 0:06:11
More recently, his friendship
with the controversial business | 0:06:11 | 0:06:13
family, the Guptas,
has fuelled allegations | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
of massive corruption -
"state capture", they call it here. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:21
During the Zuma presidency,
South Africa has foundered. | 0:06:21 | 0:06:23
The economy is struggling
and unemployment is soaring, | 0:06:23 | 0:06:25
amid a sense that senior officials
could get away with anything. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:32
But in December, Zuma and his allies
lost control of the governing ANC. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:36
The new man, Cyril Ramaphosa,
promising to end impunity. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:44
Everyone agrees that our state
was captured by people who purported | 0:06:45 | 0:06:49
to be close to the president,
who have been doing really bad | 0:06:49 | 0:06:53
things and getting into all and many
state institutions. | 0:06:53 | 0:07:01
And suddenly, there is real
change in the air here. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:06
Prosecutors seizing this state farm
in connection with alleged | 0:07:06 | 0:07:09
fraud by the Gupta family
and government officials. | 0:07:09 | 0:07:13
And the courts pursuing
corruption charges against | 0:07:13 | 0:07:14
President Zuma himself. | 0:07:14 | 0:07:19
I think these are real historic
moments in South African politics. | 0:07:19 | 0:07:22
In all likelihood, we are going
to see arrests and big people | 0:07:22 | 0:07:25
being caught up in this. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:27
Because a wheel is turning,
momentum is developing. | 0:07:27 | 0:07:34
And I don't think there
is to be any turning back. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:38
For now, Zuma is clinging
to his job, but his allies | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
are deserting him and tonight party
leaders are meeting him | 0:07:40 | 0:07:43
to discuss his removal. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:48
In places like Zimbabwe and Kenya,
we have seen this sort of situation | 0:07:48 | 0:07:51
turn ugly and dangerous. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:52
But South Africa is still
a robust democracy. | 0:07:52 | 0:07:54
So, whether he is pushed
or he jumps, President Zuma | 0:07:54 | 0:07:57
will soon be out of power,
and, most likely, in court | 0:07:57 | 0:08:00
on corruption charges. | 0:08:00 | 0:08:06
It is a moment of drama and optimism
for a country poised to exit | 0:08:06 | 0:08:09
the troubled Zuma era. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:14
Andrew Harding, BBC
News, Johannesburg. | 0:08:14 | 0:08:19
Managers of a care home
in Hertfordshire have promised | 0:08:19 | 0:08:21
a 'full and proper' investigation
after one of its elderly residents | 0:08:21 | 0:08:24
died in a fire yesterday. | 0:08:24 | 0:08:27
Emergency services were called
to the Woodlands View care home | 0:08:27 | 0:08:30
in Stevenage yesterday afternoon. | 0:08:30 | 0:08:31
A second person was critically
injured in the blaze, | 0:08:31 | 0:08:34
thought to have been caused
by an explosion from | 0:08:34 | 0:08:36
an oxygen cylinder. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:39
The black-cab rapist John Worboys
has been transferred back | 0:08:39 | 0:08:42
to a prison in Yorkshire
after his controversial move | 0:08:42 | 0:08:44
to a jail in London. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
The Prison Service faced criticism
after the serial sex offender | 0:08:47 | 0:08:49
was moved in January to the city
where he committed his crimes. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
Legal proceedings are currently
under way to try and prevent | 0:08:53 | 0:08:56
his release on parole. | 0:08:56 | 0:08:57
He was jailed in 2009
for drugging and sexually | 0:08:57 | 0:08:59
assaulting female passengers. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:04
The Government is to consult
on new planning rules that | 0:09:04 | 0:09:07
would make it easier for homeowners
to add two storeys to existing | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
buildings in cities. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
But any extra levels could only be
added if the property remained | 0:09:11 | 0:09:14
in keeping with the area. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:15
Ministers are trying to increase
housing capacity in England. | 0:09:15 | 0:09:21
MPs have warned that cuts
to the Royal Marines | 0:09:21 | 0:09:23
would significantly weaken
Britain's defences. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:25
The Government, which is reviewing
defence spending, is said to be | 0:09:25 | 0:09:28
considering axing 2000 Marines
and the Royal Navy's two | 0:09:28 | 0:09:30
amphibious assault ships. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
Daniela Relph reports. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:41
It is a warning to Government over
the future of the Royal Marines. | 0:09:41 | 0:09:44
They are among Britain's elite
fighting forces and provide up | 0:09:44 | 0:09:46
to half the personnel for the UK's
Special Forces. | 0:09:46 | 0:09:52
The Defence Select Committee report
says that further cuts | 0:09:52 | 0:09:54
to the Marines would
damage their ability to be | 0:09:54 | 0:09:56
a high readiness unit. | 0:09:56 | 0:09:59
And warns plans to end the use
of HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark - | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
ships from which beach
assaults are made - | 0:10:03 | 0:10:05
would be militarily
illiterate at this time. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:09
The committee praises
the Defence Secretary, | 0:10:09 | 0:10:11
Gavin Williamson, for taking control
of a defense review. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:14
He is under pressure to make cuts
against the strong funding cases | 0:10:14 | 0:10:18
being made by other government
departments, but also faces | 0:10:18 | 0:10:20
arguments from military chiefs that
defence must be a priority. | 0:10:20 | 0:10:27
Since 2010, our military has been
cut by a third in its capability. | 0:10:27 | 0:10:32
If this new round of cuts come,
it will have been cut by half. | 0:10:32 | 0:10:36
Can you imagine if we had half
the number of hospitals? | 0:10:36 | 0:10:40
Spending on defence has
fluctuated over decades. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:42
Rising when British forces
are involved in a live conflict, | 0:10:42 | 0:10:45
but since 2010, the figures show
a consistent decrease, | 0:10:45 | 0:10:48
reinforced by austerity measures. | 0:10:48 | 0:10:54
Defence is now more complex
and sophisticated than ever before. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:57
The head of the army recently warned
of Russia's increasingly powerful | 0:10:57 | 0:11:00
and aggressive military. | 0:11:00 | 0:11:04
A capability he said the UK
would struggle to match. | 0:11:04 | 0:11:06
But as well as traditional battles,
there is now a technological fight | 0:11:06 | 0:11:09
that also needs money and resources. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:13
I think in the Cabinet Office
there is a suspicion that defence | 0:11:13 | 0:11:16
hasn't delivered the savings
they had promised to in 2015, | 0:11:16 | 0:11:20
and they have to put defence up
against the wall now to make them | 0:11:20 | 0:11:23
deliver the savings
that were promised. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:27
The Ministry of Defence say
the Royal Marines play a vital role | 0:11:27 | 0:11:30
in protecting the UK,
but its budget is stretched | 0:11:30 | 0:11:34
and in the face of powerful
arguments being made by other | 0:11:34 | 0:11:37
government departments,
defence is trying to ensure its case | 0:11:37 | 0:11:39
for increased funding is heard. | 0:11:39 | 0:11:43
Daniela Relph, BBC News, at the MoD. | 0:11:43 | 0:11:49
A senior Sinn Fein politician,
who speaks for the party | 0:11:49 | 0:11:51
on policing, has been reported
to police in Belfast | 0:11:51 | 0:11:54
for alleged criminal damage. | 0:11:54 | 0:11:56
Gerry Kelly was filmed removing
a wheel clamp from his car after it | 0:11:56 | 0:11:59
had been clamped in the city centre. | 0:11:59 | 0:12:00
Sinn Fein says the matter is being
handled by Mr Kelly's solicitor. | 0:12:00 | 0:12:05
From Belfast, John Campbell reports. | 0:12:05 | 0:12:08
Gerry Kelly represents North Belfast
in the Northern Ireland Assembly. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:11
He's a former junior minister
and speaks for his party | 0:12:11 | 0:12:14
on policing matters. | 0:12:14 | 0:12:17
On Friday morning, he parked
outside his gym in what is clearly | 0:12:17 | 0:12:20
marked as a restricted area. | 0:12:20 | 0:12:24
What happened next was
captured by eyewitnesses. | 0:12:24 | 0:12:27
Gerry Kelly, your car's clamped. | 0:12:27 | 0:12:33
Mr Kelly can be seen
on the ground, removing | 0:12:33 | 0:12:35
the clamp from his car,
untangling the chains | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
from around the front wheel. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:38
On the ground beside him are a pair
of what appear to be bolt cutters. | 0:12:38 | 0:12:42
Once the clamp was free,
Mr Kelly took it to the back | 0:12:42 | 0:12:45
of his car and propped it
against the wall. | 0:12:45 | 0:12:48
Sinn Fein said Mr Kelly then drove
off to attend a meeting. | 0:12:48 | 0:12:53
They added that the issue is now
in the hands of his solicitor, | 0:12:53 | 0:12:56
and that he would be making no
further comment at this time. | 0:12:56 | 0:12:59
It's not clear if the other cars
parked next to Mr Kelly | 0:12:59 | 0:13:02
were also clamped. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:05
Before his political role,
Gerry Kelly was a senior | 0:13:05 | 0:13:07
member of the IRA. | 0:13:07 | 0:13:11
Five years ago, he was at the centre
of another controversy, | 0:13:11 | 0:13:13
when he was carried on the bonnet
of a police Land Rover | 0:13:13 | 0:13:16

When people are elected

Social Democratic Party had agreed

North and South Korea -
two nations which remain | 0:14:32 | 0:14:35
technically at war -
put on an unprecedented show | 0:14:35 | 0:14:37
of sporting collaboration today,
fielding a joint women's | 0:14:37 | 0:14:39
ice hockey team. | 0:14:39 | 0:14:41
The friendly match against Sweden
took place on the outskirts | 0:14:41 | 0:14:44
of South Korea's capital,
Seoul, as the country prepares | 0:14:44 | 0:14:46
to host the Winter Olympics. | 0:14:46 | 0:14:48
Our Seoul correspondent,
Laura Bicker, sent this report. | 0:14:48 | 0:14:53
Fierce and determined,
the Korean players head | 0:14:53 | 0:14:57
onto the rink to prove they are not
just pawns in a | 0:14:57 | 0:15:00
political drama, or an experiment
in sports diplomacy. | 0:15:00 | 0:15:06
They fight hard against
high-ranking Sweden, willed | 0:15:06 | 0:15:10
on by a crowd eager
to witness a piece | 0:15:10 | 0:15:13
of history, and waving
the | 0:15:13 | 0:15:14 | |
flag of a unified Korea. | 0:15:14 | 0:15:20
TRANSLATION: I was so touched. | 0:15:20 | 0:15:25
I feel so good because I felt the
passion of the players, and it felt | 0:15:25 | 0:15:29
like we were one together. | 0:15:29 | 0:15:30
It was very meaningful
to all of us, and | 0:15:30 | 0:15:33
especially for my son,
it was a very meaningful event. | 0:15:33 | 0:15:35
But this team's formation
has been controversial. | 0:15:35 | 0:15:36
The South Korean hockey coach has
had to tell players she's worked | 0:15:36 | 0:15:39
with for years that they've lost
their spot to make way for North | 0:15:39 | 0:15:42
Koreans such as this player. | 0:15:42 | 0:15:46
We're not allowed to
ask the North Koreans | 0:15:46 | 0:15:49
any questions at the press
conference, but the South Korean | 0:15:49 | 0:15:51
coach was frank when I asked her
about the challenges. | 0:15:51 | 0:15:54
So, adding players that
close to the Olympics | 0:15:54 | 0:16:00
that haven't been with us for
the last four years, learning our | 0:16:00 | 0:16:03
systems, kind of understanding
how our team plays is difficult. | 0:16:03 | 0:16:05
The North Korean
language is different | 0:16:05 | 0:16:10
than South Korean, so for our team
meetings, it is going through | 0:16:10 | 0:16:15
to English, to South Korean
to North Korean, so the meetings | 0:16:15 | 0:16:18
take three times as long,
and it's really | 0:16:18 | 0:16:20
hard when, you know,
you have three different | 0:16:20 | 0:16:22
languages on one team. | 0:16:22 | 0:16:23
The event feels like
a celebration, but | 0:16:23 | 0:16:24
playing as one team under one flag
has not been welcomed by the younger | 0:16:24 | 0:16:28
generation in South Korea. | 0:16:28 | 0:16:31
To them, unifying the two
countries is a very | 0:16:31 | 0:16:33
distant goal. | 0:16:33 | 0:16:36
The problem with the young
generation, and the sentiment | 0:16:36 | 0:16:42
towards Korea is, they do not
really trust them. | 0:16:42 | 0:16:45
And they have seen,
and we all have seen, | 0:16:45 | 0:16:47
flip-flopping and breaking
the promises by North Korea. | 0:16:47 | 0:16:49
So, they do not really
share the feeling of like | 0:16:49 | 0:16:51
one nation with North Korea. | 0:16:51 | 0:16:53
The North Korean
players will not stay | 0:16:53 | 0:16:55
with their team-mates
at the athletes' village. | 0:16:55 | 0:16:57
They'll be kept in separate
accommodation and | 0:16:57 | 0:17:02
watched over by minders. | 0:17:02 | 0:17:03
Sweden won the match
today, 3-1, but for | 0:17:03 | 0:17:06
North and South Korea,
fielding a joint team will be viewed | 0:17:06 | 0:17:09
as a small victory for diplomacy. | 0:17:09 | 0:17:11
Laura Bicker, BBC News, Seoul. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:19
With all the sport, here's Karthi
at the BBC Sport Centre. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:23
Good evening. | 0:17:23 | 0:17:25
England have started the defence
of their rugby union Six Nations | 0:17:25 | 0:17:28
title in style with a 46 points
to 15 victory over Italy. | 0:17:28 | 0:17:35
It was a familiar performance
from England, who have won 23 out | 0:17:35 | 0:17:39
of their 24 matches under
head coach Eddie Jones. | 0:17:39 | 0:17:41
Patrick Gearey watched the action. | 0:17:41 | 0:17:47
The faces, the voices
change, the results don't. | 0:17:47 | 0:17:51
When at home, or in Rome,
England have always beaten | 0:17:51 | 0:17:53
Italy. | 0:17:53 | 0:17:57
Their philosophy demands that this
team forget that and the | 0:17:57 | 0:18:00
fact they have only lost once
in three years in the Six Nations. | 0:18:00 | 0:18:03
Your mind must be fully
on the next pass, | 0:18:03 | 0:18:06
the first try. | 0:18:06 | 0:18:07
Anthony Watson scored it. | 0:18:07 | 0:18:08
With the next World Cup 18 months
away, England have been | 0:18:08 | 0:18:12
trying to establish a cruel streak
and with the ruthless instinct of | 0:18:12 | 0:18:15
the hunter, Watson was over
again five minutes later. | 0:18:15 | 0:18:17
But Italy were not
simply wounded prey. | 0:18:17 | 0:18:20
Even under constant pressure
they found an escape. | 0:18:20 | 0:18:23
Tommaso Benvenuti
the getaway runner. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:26
England stayed further
down the road. | 0:18:26 | 0:18:28
Owen Farrell scored before
the break, then a first internation | 0:18:28 | 0:18:36
--al try for Sam
Simmonds, in the team | 0:18:36 | 0:18:39
because of injuries
another English option. | 0:18:39 | 0:18:39
But Wales, who play England next,
will watch this Italian move | 0:18:39 | 0:18:42
a few times this week. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:43
Proof that there is space to be
exploited, even if this | 0:18:43 | 0:18:46
Bellini nearly ran out. | 0:18:46 | 0:18:47
England will have learnt much
themselves, like not to | 0:18:47 | 0:18:49
challenge Simmonds
to a race any time. | 0:18:49 | 0:18:51
His second try. | 0:18:51 | 0:18:53
His team finished with seven. | 0:18:53 | 0:18:54
The last finished off
by replacement Jack Nowell. | 0:18:54 | 0:18:58
46-15 reads more harshly than
perhaps Italy deserved but history | 0:18:58 | 0:19:00
has repeated emphatically. | 0:19:00 | 0:19:08
England's women are also defending
champions and they too beat | 0:19:08 | 0:19:10
Italy in the Six Nations. | 0:19:10 | 0:19:11
Captain Sarah Hunter scored a hat
trick of tries to help | 0:19:11 | 0:19:15
England to a bonus point 42 to 7 win
in their opening match | 0:19:15 | 0:19:18
of the tournament. | 0:19:18 | 0:19:19
Great Britian have been knocked
out of the Davis Cup, | 0:19:19 | 0:19:21
beaten 3-1 by Spain. | 0:19:21 | 0:19:25
But Cameron Norrie,
the world number 114, | 0:19:25 | 0:19:29
had a debut weekend to remember
despite losing today's | 0:19:29 | 0:19:32
first singles match
to Albert Ramos Vinolas in Marbella. | 0:19:32 | 0:19:34
Joe Lynskey reports. | 0:19:34 | 0:19:38
The Davis Cup is where
tennis turns tribal. | 0:19:38 | 0:19:42
It requires a special kind
of resilience, but this weekend, | 0:19:42 | 0:19:46
new British talent has emerged. | 0:19:46 | 0:19:50
Camerons Norrie. | 0:19:50 | 0:19:53
Before yesterday, he had never
played beyond three sets, | 0:19:53 | 0:19:56
now he was keeping this tie alive. | 0:19:56 | 0:19:57
Oh, my goodness! | 0:19:57 | 0:19:58
The Briton recovered from two breaks
down to force a first set tie-break. | 0:19:58 | 0:20:01
The problem was he faced
a player ranked almost | 0:20:01 | 0:20:04
a hundred places higher. | 0:20:04 | 0:20:06
Spain's Albert Ramos-
Vinolas can finish the important | 0:20:06 | 0:20:09
points, but Norrie's fightback
inspired a greater revival. | 0:20:09 | 0:20:13
In the second set, he did not just
respond, he ran away with it. | 0:20:13 | 0:20:18
This was becoming a match
to define Davis Cup drama, | 0:20:18 | 0:20:24
and Norrie was summoning
barely believable strokes. | 0:20:24 | 0:20:26
He has got it! | 0:20:26 | 0:20:28
How on earth did he win that point? | 0:20:28 | 0:20:30
It forced the match
to a third set tie-break, | 0:20:30 | 0:20:33
another pressure situation,
but these are the moments | 0:20:33 | 0:20:35
when experience counts. | 0:20:35 | 0:20:37
Ramos-Vinolas wins his second
tie-break of the match. | 0:20:37 | 0:20:45
This is the weekend that Britain
pushed the world's number three. In | 0:20:48 | 0:20:55
Camerons Norrie, they found the
resilience required for a Davis Cup | 0:20:55 | 0:20:58
player. | 0:20:58 | 0:20:59
It's been a dramatic day
in the Premier League but it is time | 0:20:59 | 0:21:03
to pop out of the room if you don't
want to know the scores as Match | 0:21:03 | 0:21:09
of the Day 2 follows soon
on BBC One. | 0:21:09 | 0:21:11
There was a thrilling
and controversial end to the game | 0:21:11 | 0:21:13
between third placed,
Liverpool and Tottenham. | 0:21:13 | 0:21:15
Mo Salah scored twice for Liverpool
but it ended in a 2-2 draw. | 0:21:15 | 0:21:18
Harry Kane missed a penalty then
converted one in the final seconds. | 0:21:18 | 0:21:21
In the day's other game, Crystal
Palace and Newcastle drew 1-1. | 0:21:21 | 0:21:26
