Now it is time for Reporters. Was this child a victim of a NATO

attack or was she being used by Libya in its propaganda war? We

report from Tripoli. As Turkey goes to the polls, we

need members of a religious community who are hoping for

greater recognition and equality after the vote.

And Christian Fraser reports on a stained glass project at Rheims

cathedral in France which also reflects the growing friendship

between France and Germany. Hello and welcome to Reporters mac.

We start with some major developments in Libya this past

week. First, Western and Arab countries meet in -- meeting in Abu

Dhabi were in agreement that Colonel Gaddafi is feeling the

squeeze of international action. Countries pledged to give more than

$1 million to Libya's transitional council. Meanwhile it has been said

that there is evidence that Colonel Gaddafi had ordered the rape of

hundreds of women and girls as a weapon of war. On the ground, NATO

stepped up its aerial bombardment of government targets in Tripoli.

And the Libyan authorities have not been doing well in the propaganda

war. Unconscious, in a Tripoli hospital, this little girl, not

even one-year-old injured in a NATO bombing raid, according to the

authorities. As the media clamours to take her picture, her mother is

ushered to her bedside. A concerned uncle rages about what has happened.

He said, this is what they call the protection of civilians. But off

camera, a member of the hospital staff passed this scrap of paper to

the press written in English on hospital paper. It said the deal

had been injured in a road traffic accident. The hospital scene, it

would appear, was a complete sham. We had been taken to the side of

the apparent bombing earlier. It was a stronghold in not far from

the Army Base. Dead birds and dogs laid on the ground. But no mention

end of civilian casualties. Was anybody injured? No, but some of

the animals have died. Some of them I injured. Four we went to another

bomb site late last night. The story unravels further. Remember

the girl's uncle? What was he doing here? He acknowledged that he was a

government employee. And another bombed Gaddafi context, how

contexts were unable to explain the curious incident of the gale at the

hospital. Was she a victim of the bombing? You told us that she was a

victim of the bombing? This is a government building in the heart of

Tripoli which has been hit several times by NATO bombers. With 10,000

sorties already by NATO aircraft, it is entirely possible they have

been significant civilian casualties and collateral damage.

The problem for foreign journalists working under such tight

restrictions, is that it is very difficult to say what is the truth

and what is propaganda. The ongoing US military operations

in Pakistan against militants are continuing to create a stir after

the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Now the Americans have taking --

carried out a drone strike and killed Billy as Kashmiri. North

Waziristan is described by America as the epicentre of terrorism. It

wants the Pakistanis to do more but they are unlikely to launch full-

scale operations there. Our correspondent went on a tour of the

region. Hounding a hidden enemy. In a distant valley, Taliban fighters

are holding out. This is one of several battlegrounds in Pakistan's

tribal belts. The army says it has freed most of his area from the

militants' group. We were taken to see these excesses here.

Schoolchildren lined up to show their pay due to them. Their school

was reclaimed for the Taliban who used it as a base. This is some of

their fire power proudly displayed now by the military. These weapons

have been recovered in the past few weeks. As well as the rifles, there

are sub-machine guns, large amounts of ammunition and anti-aircraft

guns. The army is still fighting to get complete control of he and

other areas. But Washington insists that it is time to tackle laws

Voters in Turkey are going to the polls in a general election and the

governing party is hoping to win a third consecutive term in office to

correspondent reports on Turkey's largest minority, whose millions of

voters are being wooed by both the Government and the main opposition

minority expresses its distinctive faith. It is a blend of Shi'ite

believes and pre- Islamic customs. In the past they often faced

persecution for these unorthodox practices and even now their status

in Turkey is uncertain. This house is not officially recognised as a

place of worship. To call it such would raise it being shut down. It

could be 30-35% of the population of this who are this minority.

There are plenty of grievances. This man showed me a school for his

son has to use in compulsory education. They want these classes

to stop. TRANSLATION: This is torture for us. There is nothing

about our police in that book. Nothing. We are uncomfortable with

this. -- believes. Religion in Turkey is closely regulated by the

state but it is an essentially Sunni Muslim establishment. New

Islam, no institution can speak on behalf of God. We do not have the

austerity to designated this or that house as a place of worship.

It is the Koran which tell us what to practise. State inflexibility

over. It is a mistaken goal. What we need is not greater tolerance,

but recognition. Acceptance of equal citizenship. Convinced that

its defence every year. In fact some US analysts believe the full

extent of its defence expenditure is not known. Now China has

officially confirmed that it is building its first aircraft carrier

which is the centrepiece for its expanding naval force. The new

planned aircraft carrier is being seen as an example of China's

ambitions to have a military that could eventually rival that of the

United States. The ship is being constructed in the North East Port

of dally UN. Wherever you turn up in China today are signs of soaring

ambition, skyscrapers and gleaming new subway systems. At the back of

one superstore, China's worst-kept military secret, its first

aircraft-carrier under construction and almost ready to set sail. Soon

to be the flagship of a rapidly expanding naval fleet, it dwarfs

everything else the people's Liberation Army has. From up here,

you get a good view. It may not be the most advanced of aircraft

carriers, but for China, it represents a significant leap

forward. For China's leaders, having won is a status symbol. It

advertises China's rise as a new great power. This is where it began

life, build in the dockyards of the Soviet Union more than 20 years ago.

It was never completed and as the Soviet navy was cut up for scrap, a

Chinese company bought the shell and brought it back, claiming it

wanted to turn it into a floating casino. But it was then decided to

turn it into China's newest weapon of war. It is getting ready to be

launched just as budget cuts have left Britain without an aircraft

carrier. TRANSLATION: And aircraft carrier is a symbol of power as

your neighbour. China should be on the same level as other members of

the UN Security Council who have careers. It is also saying, do not

mess with me. Watching closely is the US Navy. It has 11 carriers of

its own and since the Second World War its battle fleets have roamed

the Pacific unchallenged. China is also investing in missiles,

submarines and aircraft that can threaten American's ships. By the

20 20s, China wants a military that will be globally deploy a ball and

will be able to challenge American interests where they need to be

challenged. The shift will take time. Meanwhile, in a field in

One of the most recognisable symbols of France is this cathedral.

It has been around for 800 years. It was almost destroyed during the

First World War as German troops tried to reach Paris. Extensive

renovations have been carried out in preparation for its landmark

France and Germany, its new stained glass windows were designed by a

German artist. From the foundations of this

medieval cathedral, they built French nationhood. 25 French kings

were anointed at the Alter here. The pageantry of the Coronation as

rich and colourful as the stained glass windows designed to depict it.

Charles the 7th was crowned here in 1429 in the presence of Joan of Arc.

From that point onward, its history would for ever be entwined with the

fortunes of the state. Here it was before 1914. The German guns had

yet to advance. The cathedral tower that of the disaster of the two

world wars and presided over the peace that followed. It was here in

1962 that Charles de Gaulle that the German Chancellor in the

beginning of Europe's reconciliation. Perhaps fitting

that the new Windows have been designed by a German artist. The

decision to commission a German artist to design these windows is

hugely symbolic. But only because it was their guns that destroyed a

large part of the cathedral during the First World War, but also

because they will find those designed in the 70s. Designed by a

French painter of Russian origin who grow up in an extremely pious

Jewish family. The master glass makers are busy turning paintings

into six huge windows. Over 120 square metres in size. It is a

modern, abstract design, different from the more traditional biblical

depictions. It uses the same colours. It looks backward and

forward, just as the cathedral itself has always done. It is a

symbol of reconciliation and friendship between France and

Germany. Here with the hosting of these windows, we provide a great

symbol of friendship between our countries. It is time to rebuild

Europe and go on the way to the future. The strident colours will

shine in new life into the dim recesses of the cathedral. Perhaps

as they lift one class, they will fill another with the city's other
