the best stories from across the globe. This week: we investigate

allegations of shocking abuses at one of South Africa's most dangerous

prisons. Secret soldiers ` Iran's Covert at liberty is inside Syria.

Our man in Moscow `50 years since the BBC first sent a reporter to

Russia, how different is it? And, Halloween, Hollywood style. We

joined the freaks who come out at nightfall fright night. `` at

nightfall fright night. A British security firm has been accused of

shocking abuses at one of South Africa's most dangerous prisons.

Authorities have temporarily taken over the running of Mangaung prison

from G4S Co. The company blames the unrest on a labour dispute. A

warning, you may find this report disturbing. The bloody aftermath of

another gang fight inside one of South Africa's most dangerous

prison. This is Mangaung, maximum security jail. The company from

Britain, G4S has been in charge. But today, we can reveal claims from

inmates and guards of a crisis of widespread abuses, including

allegations of electric shock and forced injection. This video, filmed

for official records by security guards, shows an inmate after a

fight with another inmate. Listen to the clicking sounds in the

background. It is alleged that those electric shocks being administered

to at least one other prisoner who screams in pain and begs for it to

stop. A former prisoner told us he had been soaked with water then shot

until he passed out as a punishment. When you are complaining, they are

big demise in you. An investigation and the wits just as project has

learnt powerful antipsychotic drugs were being administered. One race a

us. `` then we shocked them. That is the only way you felt you could

control the prisoners? Yes. Earlier this month, South African

authorities moved in to seize control from G4S. They said

conditions were shocking and inhumane. That the situation was out

of control. But G4S has denied any wrongdoing and questioned the

credibility of those of alleging abuse. The comments that a lot of

these accusations are based off are coming from the criminals. That does

not mean that you not warrant investigation. If there is anything

that merits investigation, we will investigate. With complete

transparency. If there were these times of extreme abuses, it would be

thou for all to see. If they happened, I have not been made aware

of it. But a leaked government report shows concerns were being

raised three years ago. A new investigation into the alleged

abuses here is now under way. It was a brutal chapter in Sri Lanka's

turbulent past. In the last remark of its civil war, 40,000 people were

killed, tens of thousands more simply disappeared with their

families are still left in the dark. When international enquiry was

set up to find out exactly what happened but the Sri Lankan

government says it has no intention of cooperating with it. The Foreign

Minister told BBC, the government's own enquiry are quite enough. A

because I do not want to be raped again. She asked me who was going to

protect? For now, she will be hiding in this safe house in the long`term,

what guarantees are there? The people she is terrified of art that

people who run the law. The Tamil Tigers have been accused of using

civilians as human shields. Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister in cysts

warrant investigation. If there is any attempt to set up an

kind in the north but it is accompanied by the silence of

absences, of unanswered questions and of fear. From the outside, it

seemed that most of the world, with the exception of Russia and China,

is lined up against the Syrian authorities but we have evidence of

that foreign forces, specifically Iranian soldiers, are inside Syria

fighting alongside resident Assad's trips. It says it is Assistant ``

assisting Damascus. When rebels captured her camera, evidence of the

true scope of the covert activity in Syria became much clearer.

This story starts in September. A group of Syrian rebel said the

captured video footage after a battle. The stick proved Iranian

armed forces were on the ground on Syria and supporting the Assad

regime. The captured footage was filmed by a cameraman who was in bed

with some Iranian Revolutionary guards. Its authenticity has been

verified IBB to experts. This is the first time all of the material has

been pieced together. It is likely it was never intended for public

broadcast. But what some sort of internal Iranian Revolutionary

project. When you watch the footage, becomes obvious that despite the

repeated denials, Iran is secretly playing a greater role in helping

turn the tide of the war back in favour of the Assad regime. In this

segment, the cameraman is being driven to the Iranian alert in

southern Aleppo. The men on the right`hand side is a revolutionary

Gaizka Mendieta. He scored Ismail Heydari. The captured footage shows

the Iranian instructing a new militia. The National Defence Force.

It seems the National Defence Force is not trained on the ground in

Syria. The Revolutionary guards are not just providing training. They

also engage in behind the lines combat operations.

The sun rises over Aleppo. This will not be a peaceful day. Reports are

coming in a force of rebels is moving in on a nearby regime

stronghold, known as a poultry farm. This is a military emergency.

Two fighters `` truckloads of fighters had to the poultry farmers

fast as they can. There are about 40 fighters gathered here. All of these

men, then an attack is coming. Ismail Heydari secured the

right`hand flank of the battlefield. At first glance, the Iranian group

looks for a fight. Then Ismail Heydari sports movement on the

horizon. Go `` spots. There are far more than just three rebels. This

footage was filmed by the rebels' and cameraman. The rebels vote

outnumber the squad of Ismail Heydari. They have heavy weapons,

including this tank. The Iranians are heading into an ambush. The

others try to retreat. It is too late. These are the last images that

are filmed. Two days later, Ismail Heydari is buried with military

honours in Iran. Its final confirmation of his important role

in the Revolutionary guards. Despite Tehran's continued denials of

military involvement, the story of Ismail Heydari has shone a light

onto Iran's David Wall in Syria. He was the man who went into the

cold. 50 years ago, Erik De Mauny became the BBC's first resident

Moscow correspondent after the commonest authorities eased

censorship. It gave many people their first things of life behind

the Iron Curtain. Reporting on the fall of the.... We look back on the

De Mauny was allowed to hide the Iron Curtain. Erik De Mauny once

said he felt exhilaration when he arrived here. Reports from Russia in

1963, it was challenging to say the least. Then, foreign correspondence

were not about to trouble if you kilometres outside of Moscow without

special commission. They had choice of where they could live. Getting to

know the area was difficult with the KGB briefing on your Mac. Coverage

was not all Cold War. I'm no expert in the technical points. What my
