Welcome to Wednesday's Reporting Scotland. Tonight on your national | :00:16. | :00:19.
news: There are calls to investigate whether former News of | :00:19. | :00:22.
the World editor Andy Coulson lied during the Tommy Sheridan perjury | :00:22. | :00:32.
:00:32. | :00:33. | ||
trial. A senior MP says the verdict needs to be reconsidered. I think | :00:33. | :00:38.
the Sheridan trial was unsound and may need revisited. | :00:38. | :00:41.
The calls come amid fresh claims over phone hacking at the newspaper. | :00:41. | :00:45.
Also coming up tonight: A man who stabbed a 21 year-old cleaner to | :00:45. | :00:48.
death in a random attack is found not guilty of murder by reason of | :00:48. | :00:57.
insanity. Welcome to the Moray Firth where | :00:57. | :01:02.
the Scottish Open is due to start tomorrow. The rain is likely to | :01:02. | :01:06.
ease off a bit. And Rangers land there man - Juan | :01:06. | :01:10.
Manuel Ortiz becomes Alan McCoist's first new signing. | :01:10. | :01:13.
Strathclyde Police will be asked to investigate whether the former News | :01:13. | :01:16.
of the World editor Andy Coulson lied during the Tommy Sheridan | :01:16. | :01:20.
perjury trial. In the witness box Mr Coulson denied he knew anything | :01:20. | :01:22.
about payments to police officers by the newspaper. But new | :01:22. | :01:27.
revelations questioned that statement. This afternoon a senior | :01:27. | :01:30.
Labour MP told the Commons that he believed the trial had been unsound. | :01:30. | :01:40.
:01:40. | :01:45. | ||
Here is our correspondent, Raymond Buchanan. This was a December day | :01:45. | :01:50.
when Tommy Sheridan summoned Andy Coulson to Glasgow's High Court. He | :01:50. | :01:54.
was in Scotland to answer questions about his time as editor of the | :01:54. | :01:59.
News of the World. He was asked if the News of the World paid corrupt | :01:59. | :02:04.
police officers. Not to my knowledge was the reply. But now it | :02:04. | :02:09.
has been reported that e-mail sit - - exist which suggests Mr Coulson | :02:09. | :02:13.
of rows payments to police. This afternoon that this evidence was | :02:13. | :02:19.
raised in the Commons. They are currently people serving prison | :02:19. | :02:24.
sentences in this country, like Tommy Sheridan, that successful | :02:24. | :02:29.
prosecution was based on evidence from Andy Coulson. Now it seems | :02:29. | :02:33.
that the jury did not get all the emails pertinent to that case. If | :02:34. | :02:37.
that is the case, surely the appropriate authorities should | :02:38. | :02:42.
revisit this case and ask Mr Coulson whether this invitation -- | :02:42. | :02:48.
this information was withheld deliberately. I think the Sheridan | :02:48. | :02:53.
trial was unsound and may need revisited. Tommy Sheridan was | :02:53. | :02:58.
convicted and sentenced to three years in prison. I have fought the | :02:58. | :03:02.
power of News International all my political life and I make no | :03:02. | :03:07.
apologies for taking on the might of Rupert Murdoch. Tomorrow Tommy | :03:07. | :03:10.
Sheridan's lawyer will call for it Strathclyde Police to investigate | :03:10. | :03:15.
whether Andy Coulson committed perjury. Mr Coulson has always | :03:15. | :03:20.
denied he paid Police Board approved phones to be hacked. | :03:20. | :03:25.
Raymond Buchanan is outside the High Court tonight. Art Tommy | :03:25. | :03:29.
Sheridan's lawyers interested only in Mr Coulson or in questioning | :03:29. | :03:35.
others as well? They are interested in questioning others as well. Tom | :03:35. | :03:40.
Watson and his other lawyer, both of whom you saw in my report, will | :03:40. | :03:44.
be in Glasgow tomorrow where they will hold a press conference at | :03:44. | :03:49.
which they say they will release new information about the contact | :03:49. | :03:55.
of other News International executives, including the chief | :03:55. | :03:59.
executive - Rebekah Brooks. She has been under significant pressure in | :03:59. | :04:02.
recent days since it was revealed that the newspaper had hacked into | :04:02. | :04:07.
the telephone of the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler. Lots of | :04:07. | :04:10.
questions about phone hacking scandal and lots of questions for | :04:10. | :04:14.
those who would like to see the paper punished. We will find out | :04:14. | :04:21.
more tomorrow. Many thanks, Raymond. There will be more on that story | :04:21. | :04:24.
tonight on the Newsnight Scotland tonight. | :04:24. | :04:27.
It was a random, unprovoked and frenzied attack on the young | :04:27. | :04:30.
cleaner as he made his way between jobs in the centre of Glasgow. 21 | :04:30. | :04:32.
year-old Michael Davis was stabbed to death by nineteen-year-old | :04:32. | :04:35.
Tianhui Zhan, a paranoid schizophrenic who has come to | :04:35. | :04:38.
Glasgow from Canada because he said voices had told him to. Today | :04:38. | :04:48.
Tianhui Zhan was found not guilty by reason of insanity. He will be | :04:48. | :04:52.
held at a maximum security psychiatric unit. Tianhui Zhan, | :04:52. | :04:58.
captured on CCTV pictures, buying a knife from the lake and store in | :04:58. | :05:03.
the Canning galleries. It was just days before he used it to kill this | :05:03. | :05:08.
man... His 21-year-old victim was chosen completely at random. | :05:08. | :05:13.
Tianhui Zhan told a psychiatrist he started seeing blood over the faces | :05:13. | :05:18.
of people and was convinced they were zombies. Michael Davis was | :05:18. | :05:23.
walking along West Campbell Street in the city centre. He had left one | :05:23. | :05:29.
cleaning job and was on the way to another, he was on his mobile phone, | :05:29. | :05:33.
minding his own business. He was completely innocent. Tianhui Zhan | :05:33. | :05:39.
attacked him with the knife, stabbing him three-time. Michael | :05:39. | :05:43.
Davis's and cradled her nephew in her arms. He died the next day in | :05:43. | :05:49.
hospital. Tianhui Zhan carried out the attack after flying from his | :05:49. | :05:53.
home in Canada and flying to Scotland after hearing voices. | :05:53. | :05:59.
After stabbing Michael Davis he fled to Amsterdam. Today a jury | :05:59. | :06:03.
found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity - a verdict | :06:03. | :06:07.
which has upset his family. I would not like to see another family | :06:07. | :06:12.
going through what happened to us. It would be a hard thing to see | :06:12. | :06:21.
anybody going through this. Especially, you boy just walking to | :06:21. | :06:26.
one job from another. Then something happens. It has destroyed | :06:26. | :06:34.
the family. It is hard to say that the court has let us down. This guy | :06:34. | :06:41.
should have been put away for life. To me is not insane. Everything was | :06:41. | :06:46.
all about him, all about 10, saying zombies and doing this and that, at | :06:47. | :06:53.
total rubbish. 19-year-old Tianhui Zhan is receiving treatment at the | :06:53. | :06:58.
hospital in Carstairs for paranoid schizophrenia. It is likely he will | :06:58. | :07:02.
never be released. You're watching Reporting Scotland. | :07:02. | :07:06.
Still to come before seven: The royal visitor - the Queen is in | :07:06. | :07:09.
Larbert to open the new Forth Valley Royal Hospital. And head | :07:09. | :07:12.
over heels in - we speak to Scotland's first freestyle and ski | :07:12. | :07:18.
snowboard teams. In sport - we hear from the Rangers | :07:18. | :07:21.
manager Alan McCoist on who he has signed and two he still hopes to | :07:21. | :07:28.
sign. And an outbreak of Murray mania - but the world No. Four has | :07:28. | :07:36.
some harsh words for some of his critics. All that to come. | :07:36. | :07:39.
The Prime Minister has paid tribute to a young Scots soldier who was | :07:39. | :07:42.
found dead with gunshot wounds 17 hours after he disappeared from his | :07:42. | :07:44.
base in Afghanistan. An investigation has been launched | :07:44. | :07:47.
into why 20 year-old Scott McLaren of the Royal Regiment of Scotland | :07:47. | :07:56.
left a Nato checkpoint in Helmand sparking a major search operation. | :07:56. | :08:01.
Highlander Scott McLaren was on the 20 years old. 12 weeks ago he was | :08:01. | :08:04.
sent to serve in Afghanistan but, early on Monday morning he | :08:04. | :08:10.
disappeared on his own from a NATO checkpoint in Helmand, sparking a | :08:10. | :08:15.
17 hour search. He was found dead with gunshot wounds. Today the | :08:15. | :08:19.
Prime Minister led the tributes. This week I witnessed at first hand | :08:19. | :08:24.
the sacrifice of our soldiers. I pay tribute to their bravery and | :08:24. | :08:27.
dedication of this particular soldier who was lost in such tragic | :08:27. | :08:32.
circumstances. It is unclear how he was killed and why he left his post | :08:32. | :08:37.
alone. One report said he left to go swimming with Afghan soldiers | :08:37. | :08:41.
but the Ministry of Defence says this is speculation. Our | :08:41. | :08:47.
correspondent in Kabul says new information is coming forward. | :08:47. | :08:52.
footage has emerged which shows him leaving the base. He was not under | :08:52. | :08:58.
duress or pressure. He does not seem to be in a distressed state | :08:58. | :09:02.
but there is confusion here as to why he took that action and a hat - | :09:02. | :09:07.
- why it led to his death. Private Scott McLaren grew up here in the | :09:07. | :09:14.
park Keddy area of the capital. He lived with his family. -- Park head | :09:14. | :09:18.
area. The family are too upset to speak at the moment but they have | :09:18. | :09:22.
issued a statement saying how proud they are of their dear son. They | :09:22. | :09:28.
said he loved the Army. He made many friends in the army. Family | :09:28. | :09:33.
and friends will always remember him. It is less than two years | :09:33. | :09:37.
since he joined the Army. In that time colleagues said he had shown | :09:37. | :09:42.
it true grit and determination. A full investigation is now being | :09:42. | :09:50.
carried out to establish how and why he died. | :09:50. | :09:55.
The Scottish Open gets underway tomorrow at the new Castle Stuart | :09:55. | :09:59.
course in Inverness. Their event is expected to give their it Highland | :09:59. | :10:06.
capital a major boost. Our reporter is there this evening. | :10:06. | :10:11.
It doesn't read like a Who's Who of the top flight of golf. We have | :10:11. | :10:17.
Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy - all he get this new | :10:17. | :10:23.
course. It is winning rave reviews. People locally have taken this | :10:23. | :10:30.
event to their Hearts. You cannot go anywhere in Inverness without | :10:30. | :10:36.
realising this is a special week. If you cannot play like it two- | :10:36. | :10:41.
times champion Ernie Els, at least you can enjoy his wine - specially | :10:41. | :10:48.
shipped 10. I would not expect to sell a lot of it. I will not be | :10:48. | :10:53.
disappointed to be left with some. It represents value in that it is | :10:53. | :10:58.
quite unique. They do not make a lot of it and it is not regularly | :10:58. | :11:04.
seen. You were getting more than just a Gatt # Glass of wine. There | :11:04. | :11:09.
has never been such an array of golfing talent. There were some | :11:10. | :11:14.
raised eyebrows when the European Tour chose this course to host such | :11:14. | :11:20.
a huge event. They were slightly concerned about the potential lack | :11:20. | :11:25.
of spectators. That has been mitigated because advance ticket | :11:25. | :11:30.
sales have been phenomenal. If the weather holds up, we could see some | :11:30. | :11:37.
fantastic crowds. The whole area is getting behind this event. When the | :11:37. | :11:42.
competition starts for real tomorrow, the organisers expect up | :11:42. | :11:47.
to 25,000 spectators a day. This be enough for the local economy is | :11:48. | :11:52.
estimated at several million pounds. There is a real buzz in Inverness. | :11:52. | :11:59.
People are excited about it and everyone has got behind it. We have | :11:59. | :12:04.
all the hotel owners, taxi drivers involved in this. There is real | :12:04. | :12:10.
ownership which you would not get elsewhere. World No. 1 Luke Donald | :12:10. | :12:14.
and the West would have already been in action in an event today. A | :12:14. | :12:20.
curtain raiser of what promises to be fantastic golf. | :12:20. | :12:24.
The good news is that the forecast is that the torrential rain of | :12:24. | :12:28.
today should ease off. Earlier today Colin Montgomery admitted | :12:29. | :12:35.
this was his last chance saloon in terms of getting a place at the | :12:35. | :12:39.
Open in England next week. He is hoping for a top-five finish and | :12:39. | :12:44.
there will be a big home supporters hoping that he makes it. | :12:44. | :12:51.
Thank you very much. You can see what the top golfers think of the | :12:51. | :12:58.
event later in sport today. New figures show the value of | :12:58. | :13:04.
Scottish exports grew. They were up two. 2% on the same time last year. | :13:04. | :13:13.
Metals and metal products show the The driver of a lorry killed in | :13:13. | :13:16.
yesterday's accident on the M8 has been named as Hugh McKenna from | :13:16. | :13:19.
Belshill. It is thought the 68- year-old became ill in the cab of | :13:19. | :13:22.
his lorry, which crossed the central reservation near Harthill | :13:22. | :13:24.
services and crashed into a car. A 33-year-old woman has been | :13:24. | :13:27.
charged with wasting police time, after claims a syringe was found in | :13:27. | :13:30.
baby food bought at an Asda store in Elgin. An investigation was | :13:30. | :13:34.
launched after it was alleged the syringe was found in a jar bought | :13:34. | :13:38.
in May. The Queen has officially opened the | :13:38. | :13:41.
new Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert. Her Majesty and the Duke | :13:41. | :13:44.
of Edinburgh toured the new building which is one of the most | :13:44. | :13:47.
modern in Europe. The facility boasts the first robotic system in | :13:47. | :13:50.
the UK to deliver supplies such as linen and food, and an automated | :13:50. | :14:00.
:14:00. | :14:01. | ||
robotic pharmacy. Aileen Clarke reports. | :14:01. | :14:07.
There was much excitement about a very special hospital visitor today. | :14:07. | :14:12.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh meets Bath and patients before | :14:12. | :14:16.
performing the official opening ceremony. The Queen stopped off at | :14:16. | :14:19.
the oncology unit is chat with those having chemotherapy and other | :14:19. | :14:27.
cancer treatments. It's very nice. This is one treatment you would | :14:27. | :14:32.
like to remember? Yes, I will remember this one. It is not just | :14:32. | :14:36.
royalty popping in that patients appreciating. It is certainly more | :14:36. | :14:46.
up-to-date. It is cleaner and more efficient. The treatment is a bit | :14:46. | :14:51.
quicker but it is just so lovely, it is pleasant. That is perhaps | :14:51. | :14:55.
partly because staff had an input into the design of the building. | :14:55. | :14:59.
When we moved to Larbert, there is more petition the areas and that | :14:59. | :15:05.
has created more privacy for patients, and it creates a sense of | :15:05. | :15:11.
Cammack even when the unit is quite busy and active. The hospital was | :15:11. | :15:16.
pioneering the use of robots to deliver food and living around the | :15:16. | :15:20.
wards, and the automated pharmacy is running too. There has been a | :15:20. | :15:24.
lot of talk about all the robot sat there used in this hospital, but | :15:24. | :15:30.
they are simpler ideas too. This light is inside the glass, much | :15:30. | :15:35.
easier to keep clean. This may be one of Europe's modern hospitals, | :15:35. | :15:39.
but the royal party were shown how old-fashioned exercise as an | :15:39. | :15:46.
important part to play. The Duke of Edinburgh may take some convincing. | :15:46. | :15:50.
How would you feel if everything you wrote down at work was being | :15:50. | :15:53.
analysed to gauge your emotional state of mind? A Scottish company | :15:53. | :15:57.
has developed software which does just that. It's attracting interest | :15:57. | :16:00.
from big business who want to know how happy and motivated their staff | :16:00. | :16:09.
are. Our health correspondent Eleanor Bradford reports. | :16:09. | :16:13.
Many of us spend a lot of our time at work writing, but how would you | :16:13. | :16:17.
feel if what you're writing was being analysed, to see how happy | :16:17. | :16:22.
you are? That is what this financial company debt, to find out | :16:22. | :16:27.
some basic facts about the mood of its staff. What people like about | :16:27. | :16:33.
the business, what they liked about working here. What they felt we | :16:33. | :16:43.
:16:43. | :16:47. | ||
could do to make it a better place to work. Interest here, optimism, | :16:47. | :16:52.
gratitude. Doing the analysis was a Scottish company. Its software can | :16:52. | :16:55.
quickly pick out the emotions in our e-mails, messages and even | :16:55. | :17:01.
tweets. The technology trawls over all the words they say and then | :17:01. | :17:05.
looks at the emotions behind them, but also says, if their emotional | :17:05. | :17:14.
about something, what is it? As a new a staff member it is | :17:14. | :17:19.
interesting to see. I came from a company before and my mood it was | :17:19. | :17:24.
like that slide there, the worst company to be wet. This definitely | :17:24. | :17:30.
has to be the best company I have been with. Maintaining happiness | :17:30. | :17:34.
and well this is big business. is a really good example of a | :17:34. | :17:37.
company that has developed over the last few years and has grown | :17:37. | :17:41.
through a recession. This is something that companies are | :17:41. | :17:45.
catching on to, and in Scottish Enterprise in particular we want | :17:45. | :17:49.
companies to be on the leading edge of the new Industry, and new | :17:49. | :17:56.
markets. It is not just offices that are using this technology. The | :17:56. | :17:59.
military has shown potential in it for monitoring the mood of | :17:59. | :18:04.
potential terrorists. Health services are looking for it to be | :18:04. | :18:10.
used with mental health services. A man who wears his heart on his | :18:10. | :18:13.
sleeve: David Currie has the sport. The Rangers manager Ally McCoist | :18:13. | :18:17.
has made his first new signing for the club and says he expects more | :18:17. | :18:21.
new arrivals at Ibrox in the coming weeks. Spanish Midfield player Juan | :18:21. | :18:23.
Manuel Ortiz joined the Premier League champions just in the nick | :18:23. | :18:33.
:18:33. | :18:34. | ||
of time to join them on their pre- season tour of Germany. And I do | :18:34. | :18:40.
mean just a minute of time. We will ensure if Juan Manuel Ortiz | :18:40. | :18:42.
with a sign for Rangers intend to make their pre-season trip to | :18:42. | :18:49.
Germany. Our Cameron spotted him tried to keep a low profile. But to | :18:49. | :18:53.
no of Vail, a Rangers media officer was lacking ready to cajole him | :18:53. | :19:03.
into a photo opportunity. That is about the extent of his English. | :19:03. | :19:10.
Luckily, his new manager has plenty to say. We're delighted, there were | :19:10. | :19:14.
one or two hiccups along the road. Done and dusted, we are all pleased. | :19:14. | :19:18.
Tell us about the Blair, what attracted you to him? The fact he | :19:18. | :19:23.
can play a number of positions was a big thing. He runs Steven | :19:23. | :19:27.
Whittaker Close, I am not sure if he can play left-back, but he can | :19:27. | :19:30.
play a few possessions. He has played a number of games at the top | :19:30. | :19:36.
level. McCoist revealed he still wants to sign David Goodwillie, | :19:36. | :19:43.
despite having a 1 million offer turned down. I haven't given up. | :19:43. | :19:47.
cash windfall of close to 1 million is heading the way of their | :19:47. | :19:52.
Premier League champions, thanks to a clause in former Rangers player | :19:52. | :19:56.
Charlie Adam's transferred to Liverpool. Could that be used to | :19:56. | :20:01.

McCoist are considered during the trip to Germany. | :20:03. | :20:06.
Andy Murray says he will not be taking advice from former British | :20:06. | :20:09.
tennis players because he works harder than they ever did. The | :20:09. | :20:11.
world number four was visiting tennis courts Paisley today ahead | :20:11. | :20:15.
of his Davis Cup matches this weekend and after a bit of a scrum | :20:15. | :20:25.
he hit back at his beard critics. Chris Mclaughlin reports. | :20:25. | :20:31.
It was almost standing room only in Paisley this morning. Media, fans | :20:31. | :20:35.
and even the police were caught in a muddy mayhem. Wimbledon may be | :20:35. | :20:39.
over but the attention remains on the freshly shaven British No. 1, | :20:39. | :20:45.
so what is his take from comments from former British player David | :20:45. | :20:50.
Lloyd that is scruffier paeans may have affected his game. I am | :20:50. | :20:55.
concentrating on working hard and not listening to what all the ex- | :20:55. | :21:01.
British Blairs have to say about my game, because they know no more | :21:01. | :21:07.
about tennis, and I practise much harder than the dead. Andy Murray | :21:07. | :21:11.
is now a global superstar and used to the attention, but Paisley seems | :21:11. | :21:16.
a little unprepared. It has been absolutely phenomenal. I could not | :21:16. | :21:19.
believe how many people turned out because it was pouring with rain | :21:19. | :21:24.
for most of the morning. Luckily, the rain stopped and the reception | :21:24. | :21:30.
for the team has been incredible. What a be made of the Paisley | :21:30. | :21:37.
welcomed? Unbelievable. Have you been surprised by the mayhem? | :21:37. | :21:43.
surprised by just how many people are here. Did he expect so many | :21:43. | :21:49.
people today? I don't think so. What did you make a money mania? | :21:49. | :21:53.
It's fantastic. I can't believe he came to Paisley. The thing one day | :21:53. | :21:59.
you may be as good as an? Yes. I still like him even if he didn't | :21:59. | :22:05.
win the big Cup. No big Cup yet, but the crowds continue to follow, | :22:05. | :22:08.
whether clean-shaven or not. As you may have seen earlier some | :22:08. | :22:11.
of the best golfers in the world are in Inverness for the Scottish | :22:12. | :22:15.
Open at Castle Stuart. It is a new venue after 15 years at Loch Lomond. | :22:15. | :22:18.
The tournament starts tomorrow but it seems it is a hit already with | :22:19. | :22:26.
some really big hitters. I've always felt that playing links golf | :22:26. | :22:32.
and the lead-up to the it open is good. So I'm looking forward to | :22:32. | :22:38.
getting that feel back. We're here head of Loch Lomond and it is | :22:38. | :22:41.
amazing to think that we're not in the central belt of Scotland where | :22:41. | :22:44.
the central belt is, so all credit to people for having the vision to | :22:44. | :22:51.
bring it here. So please guarantee sunshine in | :22:51. | :22:54.
Inverness tomorrow because I have thinking of going up. | :22:54. | :22:57.
Now we're experiencing unseasonal weather so why not a story about an | :22:57. | :22:59.
unseasonal sport? It has been announced that Scotland is to get | :22:59. | :23:02.
its own freestyle ski and snowboard teams. But can we expect any | :23:02. | :23:12.
:23:12. | :23:12. | ||
international success? I'm 19 years old from Edinburgh and | :23:13. | :23:22.
:23:23. | :23:28. | ||
I'm ready to represent Great The inclusion this week a further | :23:29. | :23:33.
freestyle events at the Winter Olympics in 2014 give Scottish | :23:33. | :23:36.
prospects like Murray Buchan at target to help him rise to the top | :23:36. | :23:44.
of the sport. He is already just outside the world's top 30, and he | :23:44. | :23:50.
learned to ski and do tricks in Edinburgh. He says the trend of dry | :23:50. | :23:54.
slopes across the country is transforming the sport. You can ski | :23:54. | :23:58.
all year and that is exactly the same. The conditions are always the | :23:58. | :24:03.
same. Since you get that from the dry slope, you can get more | :24:03. | :24:07.
sponsors and get more support, which means you can then go out on | :24:07. | :24:12.
to the snow. Once you're on the snow, it makes things much easier. | :24:12. | :24:15.
The principle is simple. Training to complete at the top of Alpine | :24:15. | :24:20.
skiing requires mountains and season-long snow. In three sell, | :24:20. | :24:28.
you can learn to do this here. You can do it first in the city. The | :24:28. | :24:33.
popularity of the style is growing fast. Snow sports Scotland has | :24:34. | :24:36.
announced it is setting up Scottish freestyle ski and snowboarding | :24:36. | :24:41.
teams for the first time. We're looking at increases the numbers | :24:41. | :24:44.
year on year at the moment. What we're doing in response to that is | :24:44. | :24:48.
we are also setting up a Scottish snowboarding and the cell team, so | :24:48. | :24:52.
that athletes and people who want to compete at a high-level, can see | :24:52. | :24:58.
there is a pathway in place. Membership of Scotland's first | :24:58. | :25:02.
freestyle teams around into -- expected to be announced in a | :25:02. | :25:05.
fortnight. Now much of the country has endured | :25:05. | :25:08.
heavy rain throughout the day. This was the scene in Montrose late this | :25:08. | :25:13.
afternoon where at least one property was underwater. A flood | :25:13. | :25:16.
warning has been issued for parts of Arbroath this evening and a | :25:16. | :25:26.
:25:26. | :25:27. | ||
stretch of the River Isla in A wet day today, we saw almost 50 | :25:27. | :25:32.
mm in Tayside, as much as was expected for the entire month. If | :25:32. | :25:37.
you miss the end today, you were lucky to say the least. The end was | :25:37. | :25:42.
perhaps further north than expected but a fairly wet day. The brighter | :25:42. | :25:45.
colour for the heaviest of the downpour making the right across | :25:45. | :25:49.
the country. That band of rain are still with us this evening, so | :25:49. | :25:54.
continuing rain at times particularly in the north. There is | :25:54. | :25:58.
that rain band continuing to make its way up to a north-west. A | :25:58. | :26:01.
little bit of sky in between but then more rain pitches in from the | :26:01. | :26:08.
south. With all that rain and cloud, temperatures no lower than around | :26:08. | :26:14.
10 Celsius. In one or two spots as Lisette Celsius. Tomorrow will be a | :26:14. | :26:17.
day of heavy showers across most parts of the country. With those | :26:17. | :26:23.
heavy showers, the risk of under his will. Around 4pm tomorrow, | :26:23. | :26:27.
particularly in the south-west, wins will be quite light and | :26:27. | :26:32.
showers persistent here. In between the shower clouds, some brighter | :26:32. | :26:38.
spells of sunshine, but you're more likely to see some showers. The | :26:38. | :26:44.
further north you are, some sunshine and the dire picture. If | :26:44. | :26:48.
you are off to the golf at Castle Stuart, probably some showers | :26:48. | :26:53.
around but generally died with temperatures up to 18 Celsius. The | :26:53. | :26:57.
rest of the afternoon and into the evening, we are still holding the | :26:57. | :27:03.
showery picture. Walking into the pressure charge, no pressure | :27:03. | :27:06.
angered over the British Isles and to Thursday and Friday, continuing | :27:06. | :27:11.
the unsettled theme. A bright start on Friday morning but then showers | :27:11. | :27:15.
that to get under way into the afternoon. They will not be his | :27:15. | :27:21.
heavies tomorrow. Expect a heavy shower over the weekend for T in | :27:22. | :27:28.
the Park. It will be in improving picture over the weekend. This | :27:28. | :27:31.
picture over the weekend. This weekend, sunshine and showers. | :27:32. | :27:34.
Now, just before 7pm, a summary of tonight's top stories: | :27:34. | :27:37.
There's to be a public inquiry into the News of the World phone hacking | :27:38. | :27:40.
scandal, though it won't start until the police investigation is | :27:40. | :27:42.
completed. More companies are also withdrawing advertising from the | :27:42. | :27:45.
paper and it has emerged relatives of victims of the London bombings | :27:45. | :27:48.
may have had their phones hacked. Meanwhile, Strathclyde Police are | :27:48. | :27:51.
being asked to investigate whether the former News of the World editor | :27:51. | :27:53.
Andy Coulson lied during last year's Tommy Sheridan perjury trial. | :27:53. | :27:56. |
