Welcome to Reporting Scotland. Tonight on your national news -

more fall-out from the News Of The World scandal. A day after a

dossier of alleged victims is handed to police, prosecutors ask

them to investigate specific claims of phone hacking by the paper in

Scotland. Also coming up tonight:

We're live around the country, as Scotland plays host to three big

events this weekend. Join me at Balado, where the music is already

underway at T In The Park. Up and Prosecutors have asked Strathclyde

Police to examine specific claims of phone hacking by the News Of The

World. It comes after a dossier was handed to the force yesterday,

containing a list of names of people in Scotland who were

allegedly targeted. David Henderson reports.

For years, Andy Coulson put the rich and famous under the spotlight.

Today, it has been his turn. Detectives arrived at his house in

south London while he was under arrest over claims of corruption

and phone hacking. He gave evidence at Tommy Sheridan's trial, and in

court, said he knew nothing of payments made to corrupt police

officers. Today, that claim would be challenged by detectives. Why?

Will, in June e-mails were discovered at News International,

showing journalists requesting payments of �130,000 being made to

police the sensitive information. This was over a seven-year period,

and for most of that time, Andy Coulson was editor of the News Of

The World. Yesterday, Tommy Sheridan's lawyer and a senior MP

presented a list of names to police of people they claimed had their

phones hacked by the News Of The World. Today, the Crown Office

ordered a fresh investigation. Of The World were up to their necks

in it, and this has gone on for several years, we what a full-scale

inquiry, north and south of the border. They should be held to

account, we were told this was just an English thing, but it has been

happening in Scotland for a long time. A public inquiry will now be

held into the scandal. The Prime Minister, announcing the move in

Downing Street this morning. Everything that happened is going

to be investigated. The witnesses will be questioned by a judge under

oath. And no stone will be left unturned. But does that include

Scotland? There are concerns an inquiry by a judge in England may

focus only on the News Of The World's activities of there, and

not on what has happened here. seems like some people in Scotland

have been drawn into this, even though it was centred in London,

and therefore, it there has to be an appreciation that standards have

to apply it to the press in Scotland as well as elsewhere.

Tonight, detectives removed a computer from Andy Coulson's home,

along with bags of files and papers. A major investigation is now

gathering pace. A woman has been cleared of

murdering her lover's wife. At the High Court in Edinburgh the judge,

Lord Brailsford, ruled there wasn't enough evidence to convict Rita

Heyster of killing Carol Jarvis. The mother-of-four was found dead,

taped up in a blanket under the floor of her house in Bathgate in

West Lothian. Rita Heyster had been having an affair with Carol's

husband and lived in a hut in their garden. She still faces charges of

trying to cover up the death. Ms Heyster denies the charges.

Dozens of homes in Edinburgh have been flooded after heavy rain

caused flash floods in the capital. Motorists were also caught out by

the downpour, with up to three feet of water on some streets. Gavin

the scene a couple of hours on. But earlier, things were much, much

worse. This is the same area a couple of hours earlier. This

picture, from a well known social network side, shows the whole area

under water. Some residents arrive home to find fire crews trying to

pump water from their homes, while other -- others simply let to stay

with friends until the waters subsided. When they do, the damage

is expected to be extensive. Many homes and businesses were inundated.

This council charity had just finished refitting its office. It

says its bill is expected to be substantial, they did know how they

can pay. We had claims come in, we had to let them in the fire exit,

we had to keep going. How do you pay for the repairs? That a very

good question! Mini parked cars were inundated, too. And even

public transport did not escape. A final total for damages to be

collected, it is expected to be substantial. -- yet to be

calculated. Still to come before 7pm, it has been a mixed day of

weather, I will have the full forecast.

And in sport, before the weather rolled in, the long putts were

rolling in for the Scots at the Scottish Open. We'll be live at

Castle Stuart - lightning permitted Tens of thousands of music fans

have descended on Balado near Kinross for T in the Park, which

got underway in past hour. Catriona Shearer is there for us tonight.

Well, I hear you talking about flashlight in Edinburgh. We're so

much luckier here at Balado, the sun is shining, it is fantastic. It

is such a great atmosphere, and everybody is well and truly

exciting. -- excited. There was even a pipe band to pipe in the

thousands of people who made their way in here, and this is the 18th

year of Mr ball, every year, it gets bigger and bigger. -- 18th

year of best double. They will see the likes of fiancee, Tom Jones,

and our reporter has been meeting some of the band. Turning

attempting to a home isn't any easy task, but 1000 will be just that,

turning this disused airfield temporary into the 5th biggest town

in Scotland. Every year, I say I'm not camping, but I still come back.

You can just have a nice drink and chill out. All my friends are

coming every single year. You can't get a better weekend. You get the

full experience from camping, apparently! I will tell you on

Monday! Arctic Monkeys are among the 200 Act to appear here at the

weekend, alongside Coldplay and Tom And a new direction, Scottish Opera,

making their debut with a pocket- sized Rigoletto to win over pop

fans. We just take opera to places where it is not normally heard. The

idea is we reach out to the public, and it is a case of us going out to

them and showing them what opera is all about, and it is not just some

sort of ivory towers, something for posh people. It is for everyone.

The event hasn't just grown, it has been extended, with fans arriving

in the main arena this afternoon. Would this about a people in one

place, it has its own problems, with drink and drugs are

particularly. Police are concerned with a rogue batch of ecstasy

tablets which have been linked with the death of up to people so far.

Fortunately -- unfortunately, drugs are taken every day, and there are

no people will be bringing drugs to this double, those people bring the

mark by very nature unscrupulous, you don't know what their strength

is, don't know the quality, don't go near them. Fans, they say, to

play their own part in making sure Scotland's biggest musical this

think the organisers have kept their sense of identity, that is

what brings everyone, not just from Scotland, but from what made the

world. I could see people from all matters -- nationalities, at the

front. It is not just locals, it is global. It does attract audiences

from all over the world. But the Scottish audiences do have Arab

As thousands of us prepare to fly off on holiday, Edinburgh Airport

is attempting to speed up the process of getting through security.

The airport wants passengers to be well prepared for their trips to

cut down delays. Catriona Renton reports.

So, you're nearly ready for the off. But there are still security to go,

and if you're rude about long queues, being prepared can save

literally hours. We estimate that at I'm prepared passenger can spend

three or five minutes more than prepared passenger. When you think

about the thousands of passengers, that can add up to a long time.

What sort of things should not be wearing to get yourself rich

security more quickly? Things like this bank or, -- bangle, your phone,

here. Things in your handbag, fake tan, you would have to leave here.

be getting the message, largely, but look at this. This is that the

number of sharp object that had been collected just this morning

Edinburgh airport, then we have these bottle of expensive alcohol,

it is going to be heartbreaking for people that have lost them, because

they are going to be destroyed. Better just put the things you

really want with you in your hold luggage. And other items like jam,

snow globes, and... Would you be upset if the man says you can't

take that route? Good luck with Some of the other stories across

Scotland - a Scottish and Southern Energy is to abandon doorstep sales.

It will put 9,000 jobs at risk. The move was made two months after an

English court found its sales agents where misleading potential

customers. It comes on the day Scottish Gas announced a steep rise

in prices. A 47-year-old women has been

arrested in connection with allegedly fraudulent activity

whilst a fund-raising for Ed and bars are Hospital for Sick children.

Two former astronauts were in Dundee today to work with

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit Greenock this

weekend we have dozens of tall ships have been gathering this

afternoon. I am on board a Russian ship. It is the largest here in

Greenock. You can have a look around at the tall Ships Festival

this weekend. This is, after all, a race. It is a chance for crews from

across the world to show what they can do. The other story is on land.

The festival was last here in 1999 and it generated �15 million for

the local economy. Organisers hope for a repeat. It is described as

the greatest show on water. These Colombian's like to put on a

display. The weather may be more unpredictable than back at home for

them but they are still glad to be here.

It is the first time we have visited Scotland with our ship. It

is a great opportunity for us to find out more about your country.

But this is not just a festival. It is a race. And some are finding the

conditions around Scotland challenging. This is one of the

largest class of the tall ships. It has travelled from Waterford in

Ireland. Despite the weather they are still hoping that Greenock will

give them a very warm welcome. When the rain stops it is still a

challenge to bring all the ships into the harbour.

It is tough, I can assure you. We have container ships and all the

other usual traffic. Oil tankers, ships to Glasgow. We have to carry

on and manage all that business. It has been challenging.

But the effort has been worthwhile. If you look at the ships which

Carmen, the cruise ships, they bring in tourists, and now this, it

has put Greenock on the map. The ships are fantastic. I cannot

wait to see more. It is 12 E years since the tall

Ships will last visited. They will be here for the next four days.

This ship and 56 others will sail up the west coast of Scotland. They.

At Stornoway. People across the country will get a chance to have a

look. -- v will dock at Stornoway. Big open-air events all over

Scotland today. Including the golfer. Yes, the Scots are storming

to the top of the leader board. That is where they hope to remain

after the storms have rolled back out. Play has been suspended for

because of the Risk of Thunder and Lightning. We have been in the

company of the Eagles, double bogies, and thunderstorms.

Everything that the Scottish Open can throw at you. But admit it all

it has been a heart-warming Caledonian Challenge. Tiger Woods

may be absent but the Celtic Tiger's are setting the heather on

fire. Scott Jamieson from East Kilbride is on his first year of

the European tour and if he hit two eagles. Former champion, Graham

McDowell, of Northern Ireland, I joined him on 11 under.

It was a dream start. I played some nice golf and took a few chances. A

perfect morning for scoring. I started with a bogey again - that

must be a good omen. I made four birdies in a row straight after it.

Then a few eagles, that was a nice boost.

As the morning session drew to a close another Scot joined them at

the top of the leader water. Ideal preparation for his first major,

the Open Championship. This is one of the best courses we

will play all year. It eases you end to what will be a tougher test

next week. The threat of lightning suspended

play as the afternoon wore on but organisers claim they are delighted

with the way the tournament is progressing on a new golf course.

The players' comments have been overwhelmingly positive. They're

like the course. Spectators have arrived in bed numbers. -- they

like. With a worldwide television audience of over 400 million this

is a showcase for Scotland itself. So that is how things stand at the

moment. Paul Lawrie is also in the clubhouse at nine under. Padraig

Harrington is eight under par. There may Els is seven under par.

Colin Montgomery, at a crowd favourite, he is still in

contention at six under par. -- a crowd favourite. Full live coverage

Glasgow has been gripped by Murray many her. Andy Murray is in action

at the Braehead arena. Fans flock there keen to catch a glimpse of

their hero. He is competing for Great Britain in the Davis Cup.

Scotland's Paul Di Resta are was the 7th fastest at practice today

ahead of the British Grand Prix on Sunday. He had to endure her rain-

soaked conditions at Silverstone. He is describing the race as the

biggest of his career so far. Good And now the weather. It has been a

mixed day of weather across the country. There is a Met Office

warming in place for continued heavy downpours throughout the

central belt and East Coast. Showers will continue this evening

particularly around the Borders and Lothian. Areas farther west are

likely to see some dry skies but with all the rain and cloud around

temperatures will still be around ten Celsius. Tomorrow, the showers

will still be with us particularly down the east coast where they will

be prolonged and heavy. There is an East/West split tomorrow. You will

note is that as we go through the day tomorrow. Around mid-afternoon

we can expect temperatures around the south-west to hit 19 Celsius.

Walking our way up towards the Western Isles it, if you encounter

the sunshine and some pleasant ones temperatures will be around 18

Celsius. East however, here is where we are likely to see the

showers. Out on the mountain's the East/West split is still in play.

The breeze is coming from the north-west. It will be wet in the

east and you could get caught in some heavy showers. Out on the

water, we can expect for so three to for so for gales. -- force three

to force four. Looking at the pressure charged we can see average

of high pressure which will help later on in the weekend. We will

then see more dry and settled conditions. Showers in the north,

drier and brighter in the south. We hold on to that theme going into

next week. Showers are likely anywhere across the country however.

So, this weekend, a mixed picture for most of the country. Some of
