Welcome to Reporting Scotland. We are live as anti-capitalist and | :00:33. | :00:36.
demonstrators discuss whether to abandon their camp. Claims that | :00:36. | :00:40.
thousands of lives could be saved if we abandon and are unhealthy | :00:40. | :00:45.
eating habits and adopt an English eating habit. A load of rubbish, it | :00:45. | :00:55.
:00:55. | :00:58. | ||
is up to the individual. We tend to have a lot of fried food. It is | :00:58. | :01:03.
bye-bye, Bella. She spends her last day as leader of the Tories in | :01:03. | :01:08.
Scotland. The Government's anti- sectarianism bill will not be | :01:08. | :01:11.
supported by any of the opposition parties at Holyrood. In a joint | :01:11. | :01:12.
statement, Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal | :01:12. | :01:15.
Democrats, as well as the Greens, said the proposed legislation was | :01:15. | :01:19.
"muddled", "slapdash" and "a shambles". The SNP had hoped for | :01:19. | :01:21.
consensus in its bid to tackle football-related bigotry, but as | :01:21. | :01:23.
our political correspondent Glenn Campbell reports, that appears | :01:23. | :01:33.
:01:33. | :01:34. | ||
unlikely, either inside or outside parliament. | :01:34. | :01:41.
From trouble on the touchline to an attack on the Celtic manager, from | :01:41. | :01:46.
hate-filled messages on Facebook, to parcel bomb sent in the post. | :01:47. | :01:49.
The last football season is remembered for the ugliness it | :01:50. | :01:55.
brought to the beautiful game, and for the controversial hack down it | :01:55. | :02:00.
brought on the government. Police and prosecutors support the first | :02:00. | :02:05.
ministers plan to create two new offences to tackle abusive or | :02:05. | :02:09.
fences at or near football matches and offensive messages posted | :02:09. | :02:15.
online. Possible sentences of five years for the worst offenders. All | :02:15. | :02:20.
of the opposition parties team up to attack the legislation however. | :02:20. | :02:25.
This legislation is not fit for purpose, I appeal to you to | :02:25. | :02:30.
withdraw the legislation. To think again. We dance around the issue, | :02:30. | :02:35.
in this Bill we tried to cover it in a wide ranging and criticised | :02:35. | :02:39.
provision which is highly contentious. This government has a | :02:39. | :02:43.
majority and can pass the law but there is a real risk it could do | :02:43. | :02:49.
more harm than good. Very hard to pin down what this legislation will | :02:49. | :02:55.
do and what the impact will be. What kind of people will be | :02:55. | :02:59.
convicted and for what behaviour. The concerns expressed by some fans | :02:59. | :03:04.
of both Rangers and Celtic have been made public. But the | :03:04. | :03:08.
government says the new law is needed. We should agree with the | :03:08. | :03:12.
law advocate and police that the current situation is inadequate, | :03:12. | :03:17.
and we should create the best and most effective measures we can to | :03:17. | :03:22.
give our prosecutors the tools they have asked for. Ministers can use | :03:22. | :03:26.
their majority to get the law passed, but they would much rather | :03:26. | :03:31.
be doing so with cross-party support. | :03:31. | :03:33.
Anti-capitalist protesters who've been illegally occupying part of | :03:33. | :03:36.
George Square in Glasgow for three weeks are meeting about now to | :03:36. | :03:41.
decide whether to accept a council offer to move their camp. The | :03:41. | :03:44.
council has meanwhile been to court, in case the protesters won't move | :03:44. | :03:48.
and have to be evicted. Our local government correspondent Jamie | :03:48. | :03:58.
:03:58. | :03:58. | ||
McIvor is near the camp. What's happening just now? Well, the | :03:58. | :04:03.
protesters are about to meet. They will discuss the offer to move to | :04:03. | :04:08.
Kelvingrove Park, and the responsibilities which come with | :04:08. | :04:14.
that. They will also decide whether they are going to move. The deal on | :04:14. | :04:19.
offer was reached earlier on today after some of the protesters spoke | :04:19. | :04:24.
to council officials. The meeting seemed to go well and the protest | :04:24. | :04:27.
has issued a statement after the meeting saying that they welcomed | :04:27. | :04:32.
what was on offer. However the matter is not clear cut, whilst | :04:32. | :04:38.
most of the protesters are going to move to Kelvingrove Park, a few are | :04:38. | :04:44.
very unhappy with what is on offer. What is clear is that any | :04:44. | :04:47.
protesters are left in George Square on Monday they will face | :04:47. | :04:50.
eviction by the council. The council went to court this | :04:51. | :04:55.
afternoon to gain the authority to do that. Their concern is they want | :04:55. | :05:00.
George Clare -- George Square clear for the switching on of Christmas | :05:00. | :05:06.
lights. With the council giving their blessing, people may wonder | :05:06. | :05:11.
why they are taking such a softly- softly approach to a protest which | :05:11. | :05:18.
is illegal. Indeed, and we must not forget a woman was raped here last | :05:18. | :05:23.
week. Police inquiries into that are continuing, but the council's | :05:23. | :05:27.
issue here was never about the right to protest, it was about what | :05:27. | :05:33.
was seen as the illegal occupation of part of George Square. They are | :05:33. | :05:37.
drawing up a contract for the use of Kelvingrove Park which is | :05:37. | :05:41.
similar to the kind of contracts used to anyone else who wants to | :05:41. | :05:45.
use the park. That means the protesters will have to behave | :05:45. | :05:50.
themselves, any anti-social illegal behaving in Kelvingrove could see | :05:50. | :05:54.
them evicted. Thank you. You're watching Reporting Scotland | :05:55. | :05:58.
from the BBC. Still to come before 7:00pm: A boost for shipbuilding on | :05:58. | :06:01.
the Clyde, as a local yard lands the contract to deliver the world's | :06:01. | :06:04.
first hybrid ferries. And after 50 years veterans win the | :06:04. | :06:11.
right to wear a medal awarded for fighting in the Malaya Emergency. | :06:11. | :06:15.
In sport: It's all change at the top of one Premier League club. | :06:15. | :06:19.
And some of Hearts' highest earners are told they can find new clubs as | :06:19. | :06:23.
part of a cost cutting drive. Not everyone on the playing staff seems | :06:23. | :06:27.
to be too worried, but we'll hear what a club legend has to say about | :06:27. | :06:30.
Hundreds of lives could be saved if the Scots were more like the | :06:30. | :06:38.
English, at least in what we eat. Adopting an average English diet | :06:38. | :06:43.
could cut down on the number of strokes and heart attacks here. | :06:43. | :06:45.
These are the conclusions of research carried out for the | :06:45. | :06:48.
British Heart Foundation. Our health correspondent Eleanor | :06:48. | :06:57.
Bradford is here with more details. For years we have been told that a | :06:57. | :07:00.
Mediterranean diet is what we should follow but this research | :07:00. | :07:05.
suggests even making small changes could save lives. For example, | :07:05. | :07:10.
eating like the English. Now, if this is a typical or perhaps there | :07:10. | :07:14.
are typical Scottish dinner, perhaps this might be the English | :07:14. | :07:19.
equivalent. More vegetables in the English dinner but less saturated | :07:19. | :07:23.
fat and salt. That is the big difference between the diet of the | :07:23. | :07:30.
two nations. The Scots swapped this for this and the number of lives | :07:30. | :07:35.
saved every year might be as many as 2100, due to fewer deaths from | :07:35. | :07:42.
heart disease and also strokes and diet-related cancers. We asked | :07:42. | :07:45.
diners at the St Enoch shopping centre in Glasgow whether they | :07:45. | :07:51.
thought the Scottish diet was worse than the English. It is rubbish, it | :07:51. | :07:57.
is up to the individual what they put in their mouths. I would agree, | :07:57. | :08:02.
you tend to have a lot of fried foods. Square sausage has always | :08:02. | :08:08.
tried, potato scones, we will have casseroles, meat and lots of | :08:08. | :08:18.
vegetables. I have just moved back here 18 months ago from England, I | :08:18. | :08:21.
lived there for many years. You are right, the English diet is | :08:22. | :08:27.
healthier. Everyone needs differ Lee, not every person in Scotland | :08:27. | :08:34.
leads fried food. People in an north of England beat a dye which | :08:34. | :08:37.
looks more like the Scottish one, and they would benefit from eating | :08:37. | :08:40.
more like their countrymen in the south. | :08:40. | :08:46.
The problem is that Scottish people eat worse over all. We are not | :08:46. | :08:52.
suggesting the English diet is the ideal diet, we still do not eat | :08:52. | :08:55.
enough vegetables and we eat too much saturated fat and salt. The | :08:55. | :08:59.
reason for using the English diet as a comparison here though is that | :08:59. | :09:03.
it is a diet which is already achieved in the English population | :09:03. | :09:07.
and is something which is achievable in the Scottish, Welsh | :09:07. | :09:13.
and Irish populations. Diet is not the only reason why Scots die from | :09:13. | :09:18.
heart disease, strokes and cancers. We still don't know quite why | :09:18. | :09:24.
Scotland has such a high rate. But this gives an interesting insight | :09:24. | :09:29.
into the massive effects that as a small number of changes can make. | :09:29. | :09:31.
A leading firm of accountants says the offshore industry could | :09:31. | :09:34.
generate more than six hundred billion dollars in future revenues. | :09:34. | :09:35.
But the report by PricewaterhouseCoopers says | :09:35. | :09:38.
Aberdeen may miss out on a renewables boom, because firms | :09:38. | :09:42.
don't know what their roles would be in that sector. This comes as | :09:42. | :09:44.
the Institute of Mechanical Engineers says the Scottish | :09:44. | :09:47.
Government's target for one hundred per cent renewables by 2020 can't | :09:47. | :09:52.
be met from an engineering perspective. | :09:52. | :09:57.
A traditional Scottish industry has just embarked on a world-first. | :09:57. | :10:00.
Ferguson's of Port Glasgow has won a twenty-two million pound contract | :10:00. | :10:05.
to build two hybrid ferries. The ships will be powered by a battery | :10:05. | :10:09.
and a small diesel generator. It's hoped the deal will give a new | :10:09. | :10:18.
lease of life to the Inverclyde yard, as Julie Peacock reports. | :10:18. | :10:26.
There has not been a ship built here in court long years. But this | :10:26. | :10:29.
Shipbuilders is a survivor, all that is left of an industry that | :10:29. | :10:35.
once dominated the Clyde. Today it and commercial shipbuilding, | :10:35. | :10:41.
returning here again. We will be building ships again, we have been | :10:41. | :10:44.
out of the market place for many years and it can be difficult to | :10:44. | :10:48.
get back in there. But more importantly it gives us a platform | :10:48. | :10:55.
to build for the future. contract is for two new ferries to | :10:55. | :10:59.
service the islands. The world's first using technology already used | :10:59. | :11:04.
in submarines to create hybrid ferries with no carbon emissions. | :11:04. | :11:09.
We started the projects about two- and-a-half years ago, with the oil | :11:09. | :11:13.
supply is running out we need to build environmentally friendly | :11:13. | :11:17.
transport and we have gradually worked on the idea of a hybrid | :11:17. | :11:22.
ferries, similar to a hybrid car which is powered not only by normal | :11:22. | :11:28.
engines but batteries as well. new contract secures the 75 jobs | :11:28. | :11:33.
already here, but they are looking to create another hundred as well | :11:33. | :11:39.
as 20 new apprenticeships. A huge boost for the local economy which | :11:39. | :11:46.
will allow Ferguson's to continue, to expand into new international | :11:46. | :11:50.
markets and created more jobs and more investment. More | :11:50. | :11:55.
apprenticeships to and it will boost the Clyde economy. The last | :11:55. | :11:59.
18 months have been the toughest Ferguson's have ever seen, staying | :11:59. | :12:03.
open by repairing vessels, but the new ferries have already sparked | :12:03. | :12:09.
interest from a board. The new technology could still revive one | :12:09. | :12:13.
of Scotland's oldest industries. -- a broad. | :12:13. | :12:16.
Some of the other stories across Scotland this Thursday: A woman | :12:16. | :12:18.
died following a fire a flat in North Ayrshire. Emergency services | :12:19. | :12:22.
were called to the flat, above a shop in High Street, Irvine, at | :12:22. | :12:25.
about 20 to six this morning. Fire crews brought the woman from the | :12:25. | :12:30.
property, but she later died at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. | :12:30. | :12:33.
Punch Taverns, one of the country's major pub chains, is claiming the | :12:33. | :12:36.
brewer of Tennent's lager is pushing prices up sharply. With | :12:36. | :12:38.
more than three hundred leased pubs in Scotland, it's telling its | :12:38. | :12:48.
:12:48. | :12:50. | ||
landlords they should look to After the breakdown in talks, the | :12:50. | :12:57.
broker says there is no wholesale price increase. -- wholesale. | :12:57. | :13:03.
The parliament's Presiding Officer has upheld at a ban on MPs tweeting | :13:03. | :13:09.
during Holyrood debate. She says that MPs should be keeping their | :13:09. | :13:14.
attention on the important business of passing laws and holding the | :13:14. | :13:18.
government to account. MPs at Westminster backed a motion | :13:18. | :13:28.
:13:28. | :13:30. | ||
allowing MPs to tweet. British military rules previously | :13:30. | :13:36.
meant that veterans could not wear this medal. But that could be about | :13:36. | :13:43.
to change. The Mollie and urgency of was a war | :13:43. | :13:53.
:13:53. | :13:53. | ||
in everything but name. -- the Malaya Emergency. More than 500 | :13:53. | :13:58.
British troops were killed. 50 years after the fighting ended, the | :13:58. | :14:02.
Malaysian government created a medal to one or the veterans of the | :14:02. | :14:10.
Malay and urgency. But British rules meant that the | :14:10. | :14:14.
veterans could not wear those medals. That meant they could not | :14:14. | :14:17.
where the medals during Remembrance Sunday. | :14:17. | :14:22.
For those who earn dead, the right to wear this medal was worth a six- | :14:22. | :14:31.
year fight which and that -- ended up in the House of Lords. | :14:31. | :14:36.
We accepted the medal but were not allowed to wear red. We run all | :14:36. | :14:40.
subject to military discipline and we feel like we would like to have | :14:40. | :14:47.
official permission to where the medals. | :14:47. | :14:52.
Medals are meant to be worn with pride. But that formal recognition | :14:52. | :14:55.
was always missing for these veterans. | :14:55. | :15:01.
I thought it was just so wrong. The sheer generosity of the Malaysian | :15:01. | :15:06.
government, awarding these medals to thousands of Commonwealth | :15:06. | :15:13.
soldiers, and yet the Fijians, the New Zealanders and the Australians | :15:13. | :15:17.
could where the medals. We in Britain were refused that | :15:17. | :15:25.
permission. They medal means a lot. It is a lot of memories. It is | :15:26. | :15:32.
something you cherish and look after and hand on to your grandson. | :15:32. | :15:38.
The final word rests with the Queen. That word is expected any day in | :15:38. | :15:45.
time for Remembrance Sunday. Edinburgh Castle has been named the | :15:45. | :15:51.
best UK heritage attraction at the Oscars of the travel industry. The | :15:51. | :15:54.
ancient monument took the gold award at the British Travel Awards | :15:54. | :15:59.
in London. So far this year, one million people have visited the | :15:59. | :16:06.
castle, the highest number since records began. As far as to us | :16:06. | :16:12.
coming to experience history, it is also popular with music fans. -- as | :16:13. | :16:17.
well as visitors coming to experience the history. | :16:17. | :16:25.
Now we will look at the sport. A number of high-earning Hearts | :16:25. | :16:29.
players have been told they can leave if they find new clubs. The | :16:29. | :16:34.
news was broken as part of a cost- cutting drive. Players are still | :16:34. | :16:40.
waiting to be paid wages they are owed. There was better news for one | :16:40. | :16:47.
man connected with heart. Dancing in the face of adversity. | :16:47. | :16:52.
Moves of a different kind could soon be on the agenda. Players have | :16:52. | :16:58.
been told that cost-cutting is coming. BBC has been told that the | :16:58. | :17:03.
heart of Midlothian will continue to beat and the club's existence is | :17:03. | :17:09.
not in doubt. The future of some of the club's top stars could be | :17:09. | :17:15.
however. Stars of the past have their own | :17:15. | :17:19.
fears but they are sure the show must go on. | :17:19. | :17:23.
Will the club going to administration? No, I do not think | :17:23. | :17:27.
so. They might have to scale down. They might have been spending money | :17:27. | :17:33.
they should not have been. But they have managed to pay that. Maybe now | :17:33. | :17:39.
they will come back to reality. They were facing the reality of a | :17:39. | :17:45.
winding-up order lodged by the Court of Session. There could be a | :17:45. | :17:52.
heavy fine or ban for the manager, although he escaped from hand and | :17:52. | :17:58.
with rapped knuckles. What about the future? The owner | :17:59. | :18:05.
once again was the subject of fan's anger. | :18:05. | :18:12.
YSE building a basketball stadium when they cannot pay their wages? - | :18:12. | :18:17.
- why is he building a basketball stadium? | :18:17. | :18:22.
St Johnstone have appointed the former Northern Ireland captain as | :18:22. | :18:28.
their new manager. He replaces Derek McInnes. There has also been | :18:28. | :18:33.
a change at the top of the Perth club. | :18:33. | :18:36.
The St Johnstone chairman has always believed in giving young | :18:36. | :18:44.
managers a chance and that paid a big part in this decision. If you | :18:44. | :18:49.
look at the top that the previous managers have done, it is a good | :18:49. | :18:53.
job and a lot of credit must go to St Johnstone for giving them the | :18:53. | :19:00.
opportunity and support. That was one of the key elements for me. | :19:00. | :19:05.
It is all change at St Johnson as a new, young manager steps through | :19:05. | :19:10.
the doors. The longest serving chairman in Scottish football is | :19:10. | :19:16.
walking in the other direction after 25 years at the helm. | :19:16. | :19:24.
25 years is a long time. Eight managers later, and five promotions, | :19:24. | :19:29.
two relegations, it has certainly been a rocky road. | :19:29. | :19:33.
He has put his heart and soul into the club but although he is | :19:33. | :19:38.
standing down, the job will remain in the family. The new chairman is | :19:38. | :19:45.
at one with his father over the appointment of the new manager. | :19:45. | :19:50.
Seeing his playing career, absolutely fantastic. If you look | :19:50. | :19:57.
at QPR's captain, a 23-year-old. And he has captained the national | :19:57. | :20:05.
team, Northern Ireland. With the sense, -- currently 4th in | :20:05. | :20:08.
the SPL, it looks like he has inherited a side that are going | :20:08. | :20:18.
places. Celtic will be at home to Rennes in | :20:18. | :20:22.
the Europa League tonight. A win could take Celtic to second place | :20:22. | :20:28.
in their grip. But a win for the French club could just about end | :20:28. | :20:35.
Celtic's hopes of making it to the knockout stages. You can hear live | :20:35. | :20:42.
coverage on BBC Radio Scotland. The programme is already on their but | :20:42. | :20:52.

The general trend today was a lot of dry weather with heavy showers | :24:28. | :24:33.
working their way into the West. We will continue to see heavy showers | :24:33. | :24:41.
this evening. Here is the map from 7pm. As time goes on, towards | :24:41. | :24:50.
midnight, a lot of those will fade away leaving a dry and cloudy night. | :24:50. | :24:54.
Temperatures no law than nine or ten degrees. The rain may persist | :24:54. | :25:01.

is there of tomorrow. We are unsure about the movement there at the | :25:06. | :25:11.
moment. Tomorrow morning, many parts of the country will be dry | :25:11. | :25:17.
and some brightness as well. Showers will continue through the | :25:17. | :25:25.
day and this rain could push him. By mid-afternoon, across the South, | :25:25. | :25:30.

west, the higher chance of having a dry day. The threat of rain goes | :25:43. | :25:47.
away by the evening and the rest of the country will be dry and clear | :25:47. | :25:52.
or overnight. The weekend looks good thanks to this rate of high | :25:52. | :25:58.
pressure that we are expecting to build on Saturday and Sunday. Dry, | :25:58. | :26:05.
fine and bright conditions. Temperatures 10-12 degrees. If you | :26:05. | :26:10.
are out on Saturday for bonfire night, a cool, clear night. Not too | :26:10. | :26:16.
