Welcome to Reporting Scotland. The man cleared of the notorious | :00:19. | :00:24.
World's End murders of two teenage girls could face retrial under new | :00:24. | :00:28.
double jeopardy legislation. Over 30 years, generations of police | :00:28. | :00:33.
officers have never let it go, never forgotten Helen or Christine. | :00:33. | :00:38.
Now it is clear neither have the Crown. That has to be good news. | :00:38. | :00:42.
Also in the programme. Another increase in Scotland's jobless. | :00:42. | :00:49.
Over 230,000 people are now out of work. Celebrations in Perth as the | :00:49. | :00:56.
town is awarded city status as part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee. | :00:56. | :01:00.
And hoping to avoid the wooden spoon. Scotland's rugby players | :01:00. | :01:06.
look forward to their six nation's game with Italy. | :01:06. | :01:11.
A man cleared of murdering two teenage girls in Edinburgh 35 years | :01:11. | :01:17.
ago could stand trial for a second time under new double jeopardy laws | :01:17. | :01:20.
passed by the Scottish Parliament last year. Angus Sinclair was | :01:20. | :01:26.
acquited five years ago of the killings but became known as the | :01:26. | :01:30.
world's end murders. Police have since uncoughed fresh DNA evidence. | :01:30. | :01:36.
Mark Daly had a has this report. The brutal murder of two Edinburgh | :01:36. | :01:43.
girls, Christine and Helen in 1977 shocked the nation. It left two | :01:43. | :01:46.
families devastated. The teenagers had been enjoying a Saturday night | :01:46. | :01:53.
out with their friends here at this Edinburgh pub. They left around | :01:53. | :01:57.
11.00. Accompanyied by two unidentified males. They were found | :01:57. | :02:03.
strangled the next day with items of their own clothing. Began a | :02:03. | :02:07.
nationwide manhunt in what became Scotland's most notorious double | :02:07. | :02:11.
murder. It had appeared to be the perfect crime. Several major | :02:11. | :02:16.
investigations failed to find the culprits until 30 years later, DNA | :02:16. | :02:22.
found on the girls identified this man as a prime suspect. Angus | :02:22. | :02:27.
Sinclair stood trial for the murders in 2007 but the case | :02:27. | :02:30.
collapsed amidst bitter recriminations over the Crown's | :02:30. | :02:35.
handling of the case. As the double jeopardy law stood then, Sinclair | :02:35. | :02:40.
could never be tried again. But the world's end case left its mark and | :02:40. | :02:45.
prompted the recent change to the law which allows acquited persons | :02:45. | :02:49.
to be retrierd if new and compelling evidence is found. | :02:49. | :02:52.
Prosecutors have obtained new forensic evidence which they | :02:52. | :02:56.
believe could put Sinclair back in the dock for the murders. We | :02:56. | :03:01.
understand the new evidence is Sinclair's DNA found on the | :03:01. | :03:07.
ligatures used to strangle the girls which has recently been | :03:07. | :03:11.
uncovered using cutting edge scientific techniques. Former | :03:11. | :03:15.
Deputy Chief Constable Tom Wood was officer in overall command of the | :03:15. | :03:21.
case until he retired in 2005. 30 years, generations of police | :03:21. | :03:25.
officers have never let it go, never forgotten Helen and Christine. | :03:25. | :03:29.
Now it is clear neither have the Crown. That has to be very good | :03:29. | :03:34.
news for justice in Scotland. Sinclair, a convicted killer and | :03:34. | :03:39.
sex offender is currently serving life in prison. He's always denied | :03:39. | :03:44.
the world's end killings. The Crown's office tonight's confirmed | :03:44. | :03:49.
it was committed to using the new powersnd the double jeopardy act. | :03:49. | :03:55.
It refused to comment on the status of the case. For almost 35 years | :03:55. | :04:05.
justice has been waiting. I'm just striving for justice for the girls. | :04:05. | :04:10.
Perhaps soon Mr Scott will get his wish. | :04:10. | :04:14.
The number of Scots out of work has risen again. The latest figures | :04:14. | :04:20.
show an extra 6,000 Scots joined the dole queues. In total, 234,000 | :04:20. | :04:23.
Scots are now jobless. There's concern about the number of young | :04:23. | :04:28.
people who are out of work. That total's risen for 103,000. Almost | :04:28. | :04:38.
:04:38. | :04:41. | ||
one in every four aged between 16hfr 24. -- 16- 24. In Moray it is | :04:41. | :04:48.
not as bad as many feared. Grounded, 15 months ago, staff at RAF Kinloss | :04:48. | :04:52.
were told they were the victims of cuts. A project to replace its | :04:52. | :04:56.
planes were scrapped. It is over eight years late. Today, we are | :04:56. | :05:01.
announcing its clanslation. local economy depended heavily on | :05:01. | :05:07.
the air base. It is a classic cycle. People go through the initial shock. | :05:07. | :05:12.
Then there's disbelief. Then there's anger. Then, there's | :05:12. | :05:17.
acceptance. When people are in that transition, they also want to be | :05:17. | :05:23.
demonstrated to them, a resilience, coherence, a vision. Practically, | :05:23. | :05:27.
how have they handled the blow? Station hierarchy and local | :05:27. | :05:33.
government decided they wanted to open a work club at Kinloss. We set | :05:33. | :05:39.
about getting computers, tables, job, people, rota, sure enough, on | :05:39. | :05:44.
the Monday it was open. We've been running for just over a year. Been | :05:44. | :05:49.
very successful in what we do. to 350 service jobs had to go, also | :05:49. | :05:52.
affecting partners on civvy street. Many have been surprised how their | :05:52. | :05:57.
skills can be used elsewhere. This man spent 26 years searching for | :05:57. | :06:01.
foreign submarines. Now the same skills can be used in the search | :06:01. | :06:08.
for offshore oil. They need to know what's on the seabed. Cables, | :06:08. | :06:16.
positioning, the rue newly -- renewable industry is getting going. | :06:16. | :06:21.
Finding out what is on the skills' bed mean my skills are at a premium | :06:21. | :06:28.
now. The jobs marketed hasn't turned out as bleak as many feared. | :06:28. | :06:35.
We have the ingredients for prosperity, if you like. We have to | :06:35. | :06:41.
get those in a cohesive package and going out and selling it to the | :06:41. | :06:47.
rest of the world. I would suggest we move into a period of ambition. | :06:47. | :06:52.
You're doing this job while you're facing redundancy? I've two months | :06:52. | :06:58.
left. I have to start looking for a job soon. See anything in here | :06:58. | :07:02.
coming in of interest to you? keep looking at the boards! More | :07:02. | :07:10.
from Douglas in a special programme next Monday at 10.35pm. You're | :07:10. | :07:15.
watching Reporting Scotland. Still to come : A welcome reduction in | :07:15. | :07:21.
the number of birds of prey being poisoned. And in sport, find out | :07:21. | :07:25.
why Scotland's rugby coach isn't saying much about his future beyond | :07:25. | :07:30.
Saturday's Six Nations match. Celtic are desperate to get their | :07:30. | :07:35.
hands on silverware but not just yet. Find out why later. | :07:36. | :07:41.
Staying with sport, it emerged Rangers football club might not be | :07:41. | :07:45.
in administration after all. Because of the legal technicality. | :07:46. | :07:50.
The club's previous owner David Murray spoke for the first time to | :07:50. | :07:54.
a group of newspaper journalists. Our reporter is making sense of it | :07:54. | :07:58.
all tonight. More skulduggery or could that be confusion? What's | :07:58. | :08:03.
going on? The revelations from Rangers don't seem to stop. | :08:03. | :08:06.
Incredibly, Rangers may not be in administration after all. The | :08:07. | :08:11.
problem appears to be that when Paul Clark and David Whitehouse of | :08:11. | :08:17.
Duff & Phelps were appointed jointed administrators last month, | :08:17. | :08:21.
the Financial Services Authority were not notified. In the meantime, | :08:21. | :08:26.
the men we thought were the administrators are joined interim | :08:26. | :08:31.
managers. What does it all mean? What seems to be a technicality but | :08:31. | :08:35.
an expert in insolvency means it could give interested parties the | :08:35. | :08:39.
opportunity to challenge the way the club's affairs be being handled. | :08:39. | :08:43.
It is my understand that can probably won't now happen. All this | :08:43. | :08:47.
comes off the back of the comments from former owner David Murray who | :08:47. | :08:52.
broke cover to speak to certain maepls of the -- members of the | :08:52. | :09:00.
print media. He brought the glory years to Rangers. Under Sir David | :09:00. | :09:04.
Murray's stewardship the club won nine league titles in a row. But | :09:04. | :09:10.
now for many, his reputation's tarnished. He chose to speak to the | :09:10. | :09:14.
print media and said he'd been duped into selling to Craig Whyte. | :09:14. | :09:21.
He sadded -- added. This is a low era in the club's history. It was a | :09:21. | :09:25.
terrible period. I feel partly responsible and take that | :09:25. | :09:30.
responsibility. Are his comments enough to salvage his reputation? | :09:31. | :09:34.
No. He'll have to say a lot more than he said today. It is a shame. | :09:34. | :09:38.
All the glory years. It brought us a lot of success. You understand he | :09:38. | :09:43.
lost a lot of money investing a lot in Rangers. But it has heavily | :09:43. | :09:47.
tainted him. He needs to come on television, live, rather than | :09:47. | :09:50.
sitting in his plush office in Edinburgh, coming away with | :09:50. | :09:57.
statements. People want to, why doesn't couple to Ibrox and face | :09:57. | :10:01.
the fans rather than sit behind is desk in Edinburgh? Rangers also | :10:01. | :10:06.
remain in dispute with Revenue & Customs. The big tax case could see | :10:06. | :10:12.
Rangers face a bill of some 50 million should they lose. It is to | :10:12. | :10:21.
do with the way Rangers paid players. There was no double | :10:21. | :10:24.
contract, David Murray said. No dual contracts. In terms of | :10:24. | :10:30.
potential new owners, we understand the US based investment bank | :10:30. | :10:34.
Fortress Investment Group have expressed interest. Also in the | :10:34. | :10:40.
running is Brian Kennedy, owner of rugby league side Sale Sharks. But | :10:40. | :10:46.
he says he doesn't really want to buy the club but he doesn't want to | :10:46. | :10:52.
see Rangers die. There are reports of others too. Rangers | :10:52. | :10:56.
administrators have set a deadline of this Friday for serious | :10:56. | :11:01.
interested parties to come forward. More sports news later. | :11:01. | :11:07.
A new law introducing a minimum unit pricing for alcohol has moved | :11:07. | :11:13.
a step closer after MSPs gave the go ahead by 86 votes to nil. The | :11:13. | :11:20.
bill will go for further scrutiny. It is a change from the last | :11:20. | :11:23.
Parliament when all three maej parties voted against the | :11:24. | :11:30.
legislation. A man accused of murdering office | :11:30. | :11:37.
working Ms Pilley. Mr Gilroy denies murdering her by unknown means in | :11:37. | :11:42.
May 20106789 her body has never been found. Let's take a look at | :11:42. | :11:45.
what else has been happening across the country this Wednesday. The | :11:45. | :11:51.
last family on the island of can in a has packed up and left. All of | :11:51. | :11:56.
the islands 1 families have left blaming the National Trust of | :11:56. | :11:59.
Scotland's poor management. There are just ten people living on the | :11:59. | :12:06.
island now. There's a call for a clamp down on I will league al | :12:06. | :12:10.
night -- illegal night-time fishing. There's so much poaching going on | :12:10. | :12:18.
it calls for the fuetsure viability of the fishry. Shetlands inshore | :12:18. | :12:21.
shellfish industry has become the first in the world to secure | :12:21. | :12:29.
prestigious marine stewardship accreditation. The for tris | :12:29. | :12:32.
commission suspended plans to introduce controversial car parking | :12:32. | :12:40.
charges at Glen ArFrick after criticism it failed to consult | :12:40. | :12:44.
local communities. A portrait of Lord Frederick Roberts sold in | :12:44. | :12:49.
Edinburgh today for just over 11,000. The 19th century commander | :12:49. | :12:55.
was so popular with troops they nicknamed him uncle bob which they | :12:55. | :13:00.
say is the origin of bob's your uncle. | :13:00. | :13:06.
The city of Dundee is to have its own version of monopoly. Residents | :13:06. | :13:11.
are being asked which landmarks it would like. Rather exciting for the | :13:11. | :13:15.
selection process. I'm sure everything will be vying to be the | :13:15. | :13:20.
Mayfairs. Other than go to jail. Nobody will want that. And there's | :13:20. | :13:27.
more on those and other stories on the BBC Scotland website. | :13:27. | :13:34.
They won't be pleased! Staying in another Scottish location. It | :13:34. | :13:41.
gained city status at lunch time. Perth was among 25 places which | :13:41. | :13:50.
applied for City status. Chelmsford and St Asaph in Wales are also | :13:50. | :13:57.
being granted City status. It is now official? It is. The sun has | :13:57. | :14:02.
now set on an historic day for a very historic city. Perth was once | :14:02. | :14:07.
upon a time Scotland's capital. It was a City previously until 1975. | :14:07. | :14:13.
It had that title stripped from it uncermoniously. Many here feel that | :14:13. | :14:18.
the decision to restore City status to Perth is a wrong that has at | :14:18. | :14:26.
last been put right. A city again. Time to celebrate by the banks the | :14:26. | :14:32.
it. Ay. The restoration of city status, a victory for Perth's | :14:32. | :14:36.
Provost. You must be a happy man today? Thank you very much. A very | :14:36. | :14:42.
happy man. City status for Perth has been a long time coming. And a | :14:42. | :14:47.
broad welcome in Perth city centre with the occasional sceptical voice. | :14:48. | :14:53.
I'm wondering what difference it will make at all? J Excellent news. | :14:53. | :14:58.
Very happy about it. Perth had been a city until 1975. Local government | :14:58. | :15:02.
reorganisation swept the historic title away. The first reference to | :15:02. | :15:07.
Perth as a city is in this Royal Charter signed by James sixth in | :15:07. | :15:15.
1600. Now the title's been restored what might it mean? This cafe owner | :15:15. | :15:19.
is convinced it is good for pert and business. It is a great boost | :15:19. | :15:23.
for sourism and the city. We are really pleased. I have to thank all | :15:23. | :15:28.
the local government and MSPs who put such hard work into trying for | :15:28. | :15:34.
this. 80 miles up the A9 Inverness was given City status in 2000. What | :15:34. | :15:38.
has it done for the highland capital? The confidence in | :15:39. | :15:44.
Inverness has grown. Our infrastructure's grown. We're | :15:44. | :15:49.
making investment that will take us into the Noakes 15, 20 years. We | :15:49. | :15:55.
were the only city left in Scotland which didn't have a university. We | :15:55. | :15:59.
have now one. Back in Perth, they are hoping for great things now | :15:59. | :16:03.
they are officially a City again. Time will tell. | :16:03. | :16:08.
So, the fair city can justifiably now call itself a City once more. | :16:08. | :16:12.
They are not even going to have to change the signs. They already | :16:12. | :16:18.
welcome you to the city of Perth. The decision to restore City status | :16:18. | :16:22.
to Perth is part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. | :16:22. | :16:26.
Imagine will be here in July. She was always assured of a warm | :16:26. | :16:30.
welcome. It will be all the warmer for her as a result of the decision | :16:30. | :16:33.
today to restore City status to Perth. | :16:33. | :16:39.
Thank you. Staying with cities. The ruling | :16:39. | :16:43.
Labour group on Glasgow City Council's been hit by another | :16:43. | :16:50.
resignation. Shack ut butt has quit the council. Labour has lost its | :16:50. | :16:54.
overall majority. Mr Butt says he will vote with the remaining Labour | :16:54. | :16:59.
group. The party has 39 out of 79 councillors but that's far more | :16:59. | :17:08.
than any other single party. Last month, Labour narrowly won a vote. | :17:08. | :17:12.
The union representing offshore pilots says its members could | :17:12. | :17:16.
refuse to fly in extreme weather conditions. The warning comes from | :17:16. | :17:22.
Balpa on 20th anniversary of the cormorant Alpha crash which killed | :17:22. | :17:31.
11 people. There's a worry about a safety device called day day con | :17:31. | :17:35.
scoops. Balpa says in such conditions flying should be stopped. | :17:35. | :17:40.
There's been a sharp drop in the number of poisoning of birds of | :17:40. | :17:45.
prey in Scotland. The news has been welcomed by conservationists and | :17:45. | :17:50.
landowners. There's a warning there's no room for cop place epbsy. | :17:50. | :17:55.
A golden eagle found dead on a highland estate. An image which | :17:55. | :18:01.
shames Scotland. Every one of these dots represents incidents in which | :18:01. | :18:07.
birds of prey have been found poisoned since 2007. It is an | :18:07. | :18:15.
agonising in indiscriminate death. The number of birds confirmed | :18:15. | :18:21.
poisoned is down from 28- 16 from last year. The hope is these | :18:21. | :18:27.
figures mark the start of a long- awaited downward trend in the | :18:27. | :18:31.
number of birds of prey being illegally poisoned. The huge amount | :18:31. | :18:36.
of work has already been done. It is clear major challenges remain. | :18:36. | :18:41.
Sporting estates and landowners have been praised by the Scottish | :18:41. | :18:46.
Government for their work. We've a much better handle on the size of | :18:46. | :18:49.
the problem. We're into the teens for these figures. We'll certainly | :18:49. | :18:55.
do our part to mash sure it continues. Experts agree there's no | :18:55. | :19:01.
room for complacencey and concerns remain about the true extent of the | :19:01. | :19:08.
problem. The figures are confirmed poisonings. But is that 10%, 50% or | :19:08. | :19:14.
75% of the actual poisoning. Golden eagles and some other species of | :19:14. | :19:17.
birds of prey are still missing from areas of Scotland which should | :19:17. | :19:22.
be able to support them. Illegal persecution remains a serious | :19:22. | :19:28.
challenge but some progress at last is now being made. | :19:28. | :19:33.
A Polish version of Macbeth set in the middle east is one of the shows | :19:33. | :19:38.
being staged at this year's Edinburgh Festival. The Royal | :19:39. | :19:44.
highland centre's low land haul is holing one of three stage shows too | :19:44. | :19:51.
big for conventional theatre. It is part of the 2012 limb ticks which - | :19:51. | :19:55.
- Olympics which comes to a close as the festival begins. It is not a | :19:55. | :20:01.
competition. It is about saying, I'm an Australian. If I was coming | :20:01. | :20:05.
to the Olympic Games I'd want to come to the Edinburgh Festival. | :20:05. | :20:10.
I've travelled and will not just sit in London. I'll come to | :20:10. | :20:14.
Edinburgh and explore every part of the UK. A would-be thief who was | :20:14. | :20:20.
fought off by a shop worker with a sticky tape dispenser admitted | :20:20. | :20:25.
assault and attempted robbery. Christopher Baird pulled a knife on | :20:25. | :20:28.
Euan Brown at the store in Orkney in February and tried to steal | :20:28. | :20:32.
money. Mr Brown tried to grab the knife before hitting the robber | :20:32. | :20:37.
over the head. Sentence at Kirkwall ser if court was deferred for | :20:38. | :20:46.
background reports. Baird was remanded in custody. There it was. | :20:46. | :20:50.
Brave boy. Sport now. Over to caved. | :20:50. | :20:55.
Dr David. Scotland's head rug Di coach is | :20:55. | :21:00.
refusing to be drawn on his future ahead of the match to Italy. | :21:00. | :21:04.
Scotland travel to Rome needing a win to avoid the dreaded wooden | :21:04. | :21:09.
spoon. The Scots have won just two Six Nations matches in Robinson's | :21:09. | :21:16.
14 as head coach. There's one place Scotland's rugby | :21:16. | :21:21.
players hate travelling to it's Rome. We've won only twice there in | :21:21. | :21:25.
12 years. They are very good at putting pressure on. Hard to break | :21:25. | :21:30.
down. You'll never get away from them. You have to grind it out. | :21:30. | :21:35.
Believe in what you're doing and go for 80 minutes. Scotland head to | :21:35. | :21:40.
Rome with one new face. The forwards remain the same but Nick | :21:40. | :21:44.
de Luca comes in at centre. Max Evans moves out to the win to | :21:44. | :21:50.
replace Lee Jones. We have a good team. In all the games this year, | :21:50. | :21:54.
we've done well in parts. It is about finishing a team off. The | :21:54. | :21:58.
soft sores which conceded against Ireland were not accept able. | :21:58. | :22:04.
a dreadful run of results, Andy Robinson's future was in sharp | :22:04. | :22:09.
focus. But even more this week given the shake-up to his coaching | :22:09. | :22:19.
staff. I have a contract till 2015. No thoughts of walking away? I have | :22:19. | :22:25.
a contract until 20156789 A season- defining match and possibly a | :22:25. | :22:30.
career-defining one for Andy Robinson awaits in Rome. A | :22:30. | :22:33.
beautiful city in the spring but not when you're trying to avoid a | :22:33. | :22:38.
wooden spoon. Footballer ers are a superstitious | :22:38. | :22:43.
bunch. Not many clubs have made superstition a policy. Celtic have. | :22:43. | :22:46.
Their players have been following it to the letter ahead of Sunday's | :22:47. | :22:53.
League Cup fipbl against Kilmarnock on Sunday. | :22:53. | :22:56.
Celtic players are absolutely desperate to get their hands on | :22:56. | :23:03.
this league Cup. Despite appearances to the contrary. Here's | :23:03. | :23:08.
Thomas eying up the trophy. There's victor with a big cardboard cut-out | :23:08. | :23:13.
of it 689 notice, neither of them will lay a hand on the real | :23:13. | :23:18.
silverware. Anthony Stokes isn't even being filmed close to it. | :23:18. | :23:24.
Apparently, it is club policy. You can look, boys, but to do touch | :23:24. | :23:29.
until after the final. It is a club thing. Listen, we just follow what | :23:29. | :23:33.
they say here and get on with it. That probably makes it a little | :23:34. | :23:38.
more special if you get over the line and get to lift it. Weird, but | :23:38. | :23:43.
not as weird as some other football superstitions. Bobby Moore always | :23:43. | :23:53.
:23:53. | :23:55. | ||
insisted on being last to put his team kit on. The great Johan cof | :23:55. | :24:05.
used to slap the goalkeeper in the stomach. And Laurent blank used to | :24:05. | :24:11.
kiss faben bar tez on the head. All of a sudden, this Celtic touch | :24:11. | :24:19.
taboo seems normal! Have you had a sneaky touch? No, I'll get the | :24:19. | :24:23.
backlash if we lost it! Ross countedy have applied to the | :24:23. | :24:29.
Premier League to ground share with local rivals Inverness camdone nan | :24:29. | :24:34.
thistle if they win promotion. The Dingwall club sit 12 points clear | :24:34. | :24:44.
:24:44. | :24:44. | ||
at the top of the First Division but their ground does pbtd meet the | :24:44. | :24:49.
criteria. You've never kissed me or punched | :24:49. | :24:51.
me! Now over to the weather with me! Now over to the weather with | :24:51. | :24:55.
Chris. Jackie, thank you. Lucky me. What a | :24:55. | :24:59.
disappointing day for many of us across the country. A lot of cloud | :24:59. | :25:03.
around. But it was dry. There were some winners. On the satellite | :25:03. | :25:07.
pictures you can see holes through Aberdeenshire. Some sunshine coming | :25:07. | :25:12.
through. Elsewhere, fairpl dry and cloudy. No surprise tonight will be | :25:12. | :25:17.
dry and cloudy as well. Here's the map from 7 .00. Those strong gusty | :25:17. | :25:22.
winds continuing overnight. We'll see some cloud filling in through | :25:22. | :25:27.
the north-east. Temperatures here down to 3 Celsius in rural parts. | :25:27. | :25:34.
Elsewhere, the cloud acting like a blanket, 5 or 6 Celsius. Tomorrow, | :25:34. | :25:38.
a weak cold front is pushing into the north and west. It will | :25:38. | :25:44.
introduce rain across the Hebrides and across the west. It will work | :25:44. | :25:48.
South down towards Argyll. South and east of the great Glen dry and | :25:48. | :25:51.
cloudy with some brightness here and there. Come mid-afternoon, | :25:51. | :25:56.
around 3.00. We can see across the south and west it will be a dry, | :25:56. | :26:01.
cloudy afternoon. Temperatures around 9 or 10 Celsius. Some | :26:01. | :26:07.
sunshine if we're lucky, Falkirk into Lanarkshire. In the west, | :26:07. | :26:10.
fairly wet and miserable for some. Particularly across the Western | :26:10. | :26:14.
Isles. Some drizzle working into Orkney and Shetland as well. | :26:15. | :26:19.
Through the rest of the afternoon into the evening and overnight, | :26:19. | :26:23.
that cold front gets its act together and move rain into the | :26:23. | :26:27.
south and further east. A spell of rain for all overnight as we head | :26:27. | :26:31.
into Friday. To start the day on Friday, rain lingering through into | :26:31. | :26:35.
southern Scotland. Towards the afternoon, showers for central and | :26:35. | :26:39.
western Scotland. The further north and east, drier than that. For the | :26:39. | :26:43.
weekend, the jury is out. We think showers in the west. The further | :26:43. | :26:47.
east dry and bright. For Sunday, the winds swing round towards a | :26:47. | :26:51.
more north-westerly direction. Higher pressure in charge so dry, | :26:51. | :26:55.
settled conditions and even some sunshine. That's the forecast. | :26:55. | :26:58.
Thank you. Let's take a look at tonight's | :26:58. | :27:01.
closing headlines: 22 schoolchildren from Belgium and | :27:01. | :27:06.
Holland have died after their coach crashed in Switzerland. Six adults, | :27:06. | :27:10.
including the two drivers were also killed. | :27:10. | :27:14.
A man cleared of murdering two teenage girls in Edinburgh 35 years | :27:14. | :27:21.
ago could stand trial for a second time under new double jeopardy laws. | :27:21. | :27:24.
Angus Sinclair was acquitted five years ago. | :27:24. | :27:32. |
