That is all from the BBC News at Six. Goodbye.

:00:00.:00:19.

Tonight, on Reporting Scotland. A silent tribute.

:00:20.:00:26.

The country unites in remembrance to the victims of war.

:00:27.:00:39.

I have got his grandson, it is his birthday today. Just hope they does

:00:40.:00:48.

not go through what we did. Also on the programme. Heart disease

:00:49.:00:51.

is the country's biggest killer but researches say a new test could help

:00:52.:00:56.

predict who's most in danger. Jellyfish stings, sickness and

:00:57.:00:59.

Scotland's freezing cold waters. We'll speak live to Sean Conway at

:01:00.:01:04.

the end of his epic swim from Lands End to John O Groats.

:01:05.:01:11.

On the move. The huge Burrell art collection could leave Glasgow to

:01:12.:01:15.

tour overseas for the first time. And Terry Butcher bids farewell to

:01:16.:01:19.

Inverness as Hibs seal the deal for him to take over as manager at

:01:20.:01:29.

Easter Road. Thousands of Scots stood in silent tribute to those who

:01:30.:01:36.

died in conflict. Services took place across the country. Cameron

:01:37.:01:46.

Buttle reports. From shoppers in Aberdeen, commuters

:01:47.:02:06.

in Edinburgh, , Glasgow, Lerwick. I'm remembering some of my friends

:02:07.:02:12.

that they lost in Germany and Africa. I just miss them. We

:02:13.:02:35.

remember them. They died for us. In this school, pupils have spent

:02:36.:02:40.

weeks learning about the consequences of war. If people had

:02:41.:02:53.

not fought in the war, they did not have the good life we have today. We

:02:54.:03:00.

were all thinking about how it has affected our lives. To remember the

:03:01.:03:08.

people who died in the war. We do not remember the war as the war, we

:03:09.:03:13.

remember the people who died. Hundreds turned out in Melrose for

:03:14.:03:19.

remembrance Sunday. All sections of the community

:03:20.:03:26.

represented. I think more people are taking part than in previous years.

:03:27.:03:32.

Perhaps because of recent conflicts. There have been so many lives lost

:03:33.:03:37.

and so many casualties. Veterans often talk about that sense of pride

:03:38.:03:45.

in seeing so many young people marking Armistice Day. That will be

:03:46.:03:57.

especially poignant next year, the 100th anniversary of the start of

:03:58.:04:03.

the First World War. Heart disease is Scotland's biggest

:04:04.:04:06.

killer and often attacks come without warning. But in what is

:04:07.:04:10.

being viewed as a significant breakthrough, researchers at

:04:11.:04:12.

Edinburgh University say they have discovered a way of spotting who is

:04:13.:04:16.

at greatest risk through a simple scan. Our health correspondent

:04:17.:04:23.

Eleanor Bradford reports. A shopping trip to Edinburgh turned

:04:24.:04:26.

into a near death experience for Etta Winters. She fell ill on the

:04:27.:04:34.

bus. It was a heart attack. My heart failed. They gave me four times, in

:04:35.:04:40.

America they call them the paddles, I do not know what it is here. But I

:04:41.:04:46.

am so sore with them giving me the resuscitation. But lucky to be

:04:47.:04:51.

alive. That's that they told me. There was no history of heart

:04:52.:04:56.

disease in her family. For decades, doctors have been searching for a

:04:57.:05:01.

way to spot the Hearts in danger. This is exactly at the site that he

:05:02.:05:05.

had his heart attack... When these doctors looked at the

:05:06.:05:08.

scans of a patient and noticed a curious change, they were excited.

:05:09.:05:15.

At the exact site where that fatty deposit has ruptured and caused a

:05:16.:05:23.

heart attack. We see it lighting up on the scan. We looked at 40

:05:24.:05:27.

patients who had lots of risk factors but who not had a heart

:05:28.:05:32.

attack. In about a third of patients, we saw areas like this. We

:05:33.:05:37.

put them on this bed and they go inside, this open scanner...

:05:38.:05:41.

This is the kind of scanner which lights up those blocked arteries. It

:05:42.:05:44.

is usually used for detecting cancer. What we have done is used a

:05:45.:05:54.

novel appllication of that existing technology for people with heart

:05:55.:05:57.

disease. Scientists do not like the word breakthrough because it so

:05:58.:06:01.

rarely applies. It does not provide us with the way of spotting people

:06:02.:06:05.

with no warning signs like Etta. But for others, it could be one day tell

:06:06.:06:11.

us who to treat and that really would be remarkable.

:06:12.:06:17.

You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. Still to come on the

:06:18.:06:20.

programme. The RSPB comes under fire for

:06:21.:06:24.

culling wild goats on the shores of Loch Lomond.

:06:25.:06:27.

In sport, police are investigating whether Craig Whyte is still

:06:28.:06:30.

involved at Rangers and have asked the former chief executive Charles

:06:31.:06:33.

Green for help in their enquiries. We are live at Ibrox.

:06:34.:06:40.

And settling in at Easter Road. The deal is now done for Terry Butcher

:06:41.:06:45.

to take his place in the Hibernian manager's hot seat. He'll be joined

:06:46.:06:49.

by assistant Maurice Malpas. Full story in the sport coming soon.

:06:50.:06:55.

Now to an amazing achievement. Sean Conway has made history by swimming

:06:56.:06:59.

the length of mainland Britain from Land's End to John O'Groats,

:07:00.:07:02.

completing a gruelling four month long fundraising trip. Andrew

:07:03.:07:05.

Anderson was there as the 32-year-old from Cheltenham reached

:07:06.:07:14.

the end of his epic swim. The final minutes of an endurance

:07:15.:07:19.

test. Imagining this moment had kept him going for 900 miles. What a

:07:20.:07:25.

welcome as he finally walked out of the water at John O'Groats harbour.

:07:26.:07:32.

Champagne rather than sea water washing over him. It was a moment to

:07:33.:07:37.

savour. He looked as if he could not believe it. The hardest part has

:07:38.:07:42.

been trying to deal with the weather and the cold. Being sick, jellyfish

:07:43.:07:49.

in my face. That is why I grew this beard to stop the stings. It is

:07:50.:07:56.

really cold out there. It started 135 days ago of land 's end. It was

:07:57.:08:03.

expected to take just over two months. But the marathon swim took

:08:04.:08:10.

nearly five. Eating at sea was just another other challengers. Stews,

:08:11.:08:29.

butter. Walkers and cyclists have done the lands end to John O'Groats

:08:30.:08:33.

challenge before, but respect to the man whose Lambert. It is just

:08:34.:08:39.

incredible. To do the distance he has done is awesome. I cannot

:08:40.:08:43.

imagine what keeps him going. The final few yards of the journey was

:08:44.:08:49.

the walk to the post that marks this most northerly point. It has put

:08:50.:09:01.

this man into the history books. An epic journey finally behind him.

:09:02.:09:11.

And Sean joins me now from John O'Groats. Congratulations. And thank

:09:12.:09:17.

you for coming back out in the cold to speak to us. Has the sense of

:09:18.:09:25.

achievement sunk in? It definitely hasn't -- sunk in. It has been a

:09:26.:09:37.

whirlwind day. It has been great to have my friends and family here and

:09:38.:09:44.

to be warm and dry and on dry land. I do not think it will sink in for a

:09:45.:09:51.

while. You look remarkably fit. We heard what you were up against, was

:09:52.:09:56.

there ever a moment when you thought you would not be able to do it?

:09:57.:10:02.

Definitely. Quite recently, last week, we were hit with gale force

:10:03.:10:07.

nine wins and be lost a boat at sea, a kayak, lost an anchor. We were

:10:08.:10:18.

stuck in a loch, thinking we had missed the weather window. It was

:10:19.:10:30.

pretty dark week ago. You describe that magnificent beard of yours as

:10:31.:10:34.

ridiculous, what does the future hold for you in terms of what you

:10:35.:10:40.

are going to try next and for that beard? For the beard, I think a

:10:41.:10:49.

charity shave is due. I will probably shave it off at our

:10:50.:10:53.

fundraising event. I cycled from lands end to John O'Groats a long

:10:54.:10:59.

time ago, now I think running it is on the cards. In the meantime, I

:11:00.:11:06.

want to find a very warm, dry place to thaw out. A pleasure to speak to

:11:07.:11:12.

you. Well done to you. Enjoy a lovely warm night.

:11:13.:11:19.

One of Scotland's biggest environmental organisations is under

:11:20.:11:22.

fire over its decision to resume a cull of feral goats on Loch

:11:23.:11:26.

Lomondside. RSPB Scotland wants to reduce the number of goats in the

:11:27.:11:29.

area around Inversnaid. But local people fear the animals could be

:11:30.:11:32.

wiped out. Our environment correspondent, David Miller,

:11:33.:11:36.

reports. Lunchtime at Loch Lomond. It is easy

:11:37.:11:42.

to see why Inversnaid's goats are so popular with visitors. But their

:11:43.:11:53.

constant munching is bad news for conservationists and that is why

:11:54.:11:57.

dozens of these animals are due to be shot. We are only a couple of

:11:58.:12:01.

hundred metres away from the West Highland Way but there are plenty of

:12:02.:12:06.

goats on the hillside. They may be popular with tourists and some

:12:07.:12:10.

locals, but the animals are having a big impact on the biodiversity of

:12:11.:12:17.

this woodland. This is Scotland's answer to

:12:18.:12:20.

rainforest, it's an amazing habitat, it's got a wealth of wildlife,

:12:21.:12:23.

lichens, mosses. We want herbivores to be grazing in this area, but what

:12:24.:12:28.

we need to achieve is a balance so they can both coexist. This is a

:12:29.:12:33.

good example of where there is damage to the tree here. The goats

:12:34.:12:40.

are stripping the bark. They can peel off strips and eat them away.

:12:41.:12:45.

These will eventually die. That is essentially what is happening to any

:12:46.:12:49.

saplings that are growing up in this area.

:12:50.:12:51.

No one denies the goats have a voracious appetite, but RSPB

:12:52.:12:53.

Scotland is facing criticism from some local people worried about the

:12:54.:13:09.

scale of the cull. There can easily be two or three bad winters, the

:13:10.:13:15.

goats are in low numbers and we could end up with no goats.

:13:16.:13:19.

The goats of Inversnaid may be facing an uncertain future, but the

:13:20.:13:23.

RSPB insists they can survive along with the reach woodland habitat here

:13:24.:13:28.

on the bonny banks. -- rich woodland.

:13:29.:13:31.

Other stories from across Scotland this Monday.

:13:32.:13:39.

Five men who admitted taking part in disorder during an unauthorised

:13:40.:13:41.

Royal wedding party in Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park have been told to

:13:42.:13:45.

carry out unpaid work. Liam Turbett, John Bennett, James Nesbitt, Dominic

:13:46.:13:48.

McGoldrick and Matthew Crerar were involved in scuffles with police in

:13:49.:13:52.

April 2011. A formula has been agreed to resolve

:13:53.:13:56.

the visa issue that led to Dumfries-based head-teacher David

MacIsaac facing deportation while his Scottish wife battles cancer.

His lawyer and officials at the UK Border Agency have agreed a legal

framework to allow him to maintain his residency and employment rights

:14:10.:14:12.

while a new visa application is considered.

:14:13.:14:14.

An independent report is calling for the setting up of a new regulator

:14:15.:14:19.

for the UK oil and gas industry. It's claimed better collaboration

:14:20.:14:22.

could generate an extra ?200 billion for the UK economy over the next 20

:14:23.:14:28.

years. We should recover at least four

:14:29.:14:35.

billion barrels that would not have been recovered either wise. --

:14:36.:14:43.

otherwise. It is a huge additional size.

:14:44.:14:45.

The former Scottish Tory leader Annabel Goldie has taken her seat in

:14:46.:14:49.

the House of Lords. She'll be known as Baroness Goldie of Bishopton and

:14:50.:14:53.

will sit on the Government benches. Plans have been lodged to raise the

:14:54.:14:57.

height of the iconic Duke of Wellington statue in Glasgow in a

:14:58.:15:01.

bid to stop revellers placing traffic cones on it. The city

:15:02.:15:05.

council wants to raise the plinth as part of a ?65,000 project to

:15:06.:15:09.

refurbish the monument and end what it calls a depressing image of the

:15:10.:15:15.

city. I think it is a good thing for

:15:16.:15:19.

Glasgow. It is not negative graffiti, it is positive. They will

:15:20.:15:27.

still claim up. Or keep it on. Keep it how it is.

:15:28.:15:30.

And there are more stories from your area and all the latest news 24

:15:31.:15:34.

hours a day on BBC Scotland's website.

:15:35.:15:40.

MSPs have backed a bill which would allow the Burrell art collection to

:15:41.:15:44.

be taken overseas for the first time. Sir William Burrell, the

:15:45.:15:46.

shipping magnate who gave the collection to Glasgow, stipulated

:15:47.:15:49.

they should not be lent overseas, in case the priceless works were

:15:50.:15:52.

damaged, but politicians heard evidence that suggested the work was

:15:53.:15:55.

more likely to suffer damage at home in Glasgow. Sir William Burrell

:15:56.:16:08.

travel the world and brought back his treasures to Glasgow. But having

:16:09.:16:14.

lost ships at sea, he knew the risks and insisted the collection never

:16:15.:16:19.

travel beyond the British ideals. The tasks for MSP 's was to consider

:16:20.:16:27.

not whether he wanted to travel but whether it was safer to know do so.

:16:28.:16:35.

We have taken evidence from people on both sides of the argument.

:16:36.:16:40.

Obviously, the methods of transport have changed a lot since Thursday.

:16:41.:16:44.

We were persuaded that was the case and it was worthwhile. Ironically,

:16:45.:16:50.

they found the collection was more at risk at home in a building in

:16:51.:16:56.

origin need of refurbishment. He planned overseas to replace part of

:16:57.:17:01.

the course cost as well as the profile of the collection. If we do

:17:02.:17:06.

not do something, the building will end up having to be closed. Taking

:17:07.:17:15.

the collection onto is one of the ways of being able to generate the

:17:16.:17:20.

millions that will be required. It will also mean the collection will

:17:21.:17:23.

be available for future generations to enjoy here in Glasgow. I realise

:17:24.:17:32.

that financially it makes sense for it to go abroad, but it was the

:17:33.:17:37.

terms of the will that I do not think should be changed. I do not

:17:38.:17:42.

agree with it. I am in favour of it going across the rest of the world

:17:43.:17:47.

and hopefully people will then come here to see more of it. The snow has

:17:48.:17:59.

to be ratified by the entire Parliament, before the collection

:18:00.:18:02.

could ever be allowed to travel the world.

:18:03.:18:05.

To sport now and Rhona. Police are investigating whether

:18:06.:18:08.

Craig Whyte, the former owner, is still involved at Rangers, and have

:18:09.:18:11.

asked the former chief executive Charles Green for help in their

:18:12.:18:16.

enquiries. Green stood down earlier this year, following allegations

:18:17.:18:19.

that he colluded with Whyte to buy Rangers' assets. The Our senior

:18:20.:18:27.

football reporter Alasdair Lamont is at Ibrox this evening and can tell

:18:28.:18:31.

us more. The spectre of Craig Whyte still

:18:32.:18:38.

haunts Rangers. He is the man who took them into administration and,

:18:39.:18:40.

ultimately, liquidation, but police now want to know if he remains

:18:41.:18:44.

involved here at Ibrox. BBC Scotland has seen an e-mail sent by police

:18:45.:18:48.

last month to the lawyer of the former chief executive Charles

:18:49.:18:52.

Green. Green resigned after Craig Whyte alleged the pair colluded in

:18:53.:18:59.

the sale of the assets. Rangers asked law firm Pinsent Masons to

:19:00.:19:02.

investigate those claims and though they found no evidence, they have

:19:03.:19:05.

passed files to Police Scotland who, in turn, have asked Charles Green

:19:06.:19:09.

for his version of events. Do we know if police have heard back

:19:10.:19:13.

from Charles Green or Craig Whyte? The police themselves say they will

:19:14.:19:15.

not comment on on-going investigations. I have spoken to a

:19:16.:19:20.

source close to Charles Green, who states that he is co-operating with

:19:21.:19:23.

police, while a similarly-placed source for Craig Whyte says police

:19:24.:19:29.

have not contacted him on this. The investigation's being carried out by

:19:30.:19:31.

Police Scotland's Economic Crime Unit and they also want to speak to

:19:32.:19:35.

Charles Green about a document submitted to Companies House. This

:19:36.:19:40.

document lies at the heart of Craig Whyte's claim that he and Green were

:19:41.:19:44.

working together. It is worth remembering that the Scottish

:19:45.:19:46.

Football Association said "the key requirement" in them transferring

:19:47.:19:48.

the liquidated company's membership to the new company was the total

:19:49.:19:52.

lack of involvement of Craig Whyte, so if it were established that he

:19:53.:19:55.

was involved, that membership would be open to challenge.

:19:56.:20:03.

Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie says he is "looking forward to welcoming"

:20:04.:20:06.

Terry Butcher and Maurice Malpas to Easter Road. The Inverness

:20:07.:20:10.

management team is taking over at Hibs, but Caley Thistle chairman

:20:11.:20:13.

Kenny Cameron says it is a "major disappointment" to lose them and

:20:14.:20:16.

even offered Malpas the manager's job. Getting real world of his new

:20:17.:20:33.

team. He was still the Inverness manager on Saturday, but keep it yet

:20:34.:20:42.

for his new life at heavy onion. The teams he helped give the team he

:20:43.:20:46.

will be taking over a good footballing lesson. Assistant

:20:47.:20:53.

manager Maurice Malpas masterminded the victory. Compensation has been

:20:54.:21:02.

agreed with Inverness. How big is the job they are taking on? IBM in

:21:03.:21:08.

unknown seventh in the premiership. They are the lowest scoring team in

:21:09.:21:12.

Scotland. They have managed just two home league wins. The last trophy

:21:13.:21:22.

was one in six years ago. It is a huge challenge for Terry Butcher,

:21:23.:21:26.

but when you are in that industry, you will about yourself and be

:21:27.:21:28.

confident about what you could achieve. Maurice Malpas was offered

:21:29.:21:35.

the manager 's job at Inverness baton down to follow Terry Butcher.

:21:36.:21:41.

They leave Inverness Scally sitting second in the table had in the

:21:42.:21:47.

semifinals of the week. The club say they have been inundated with

:21:48.:21:51.

interest from potential new managers.

:21:52.:21:54.

Now, a look at what else is happening across Scottish sport...

:21:55.:22:03.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi will miss the Champions League tie with

:22:04.:22:09.

Celtic after tearing his hamstring. He faces two months out. They scored

:22:10.:22:17.

six tries against Japan, but the Scotland have injury concerns over

:22:18.:22:21.

five players before the match against South Africa. We feel we

:22:22.:22:32.

will have a good time team. We have to assess where some people are. We

:22:33.:22:38.

will put out a strong and competitive side at the weekend. The

:22:39.:22:44.

Scotland rugby league coach says the meeting with New Zealand in the

:22:45.:22:49.

quarterfinal of the World Cup will be one of the biggest challenges in

:22:50.:22:55.

sport. The face New Zealand in Leeds on Friday. Scottish sprint Skeeter

:22:56.:23:06.

shares fall into at the qualifying event was the most embarrassing

:23:07.:23:15.

event of her career. There appears to be able to the potential rematch

:23:16.:23:22.

between Ricky Barnes and the opponent who broke his jaw. The

:23:23.:23:28.

world boxing Association have not ratified the fight. And that is it

:23:29.:23:36.

for tonight. A ten-year-old girl from Stirling

:23:37.:23:39.

provided one of the most memorable moments of this weekend's Festival

:23:40.:23:46.

of Remembrance. Megan Adams is one of five daughters of servicemen

:23:47.:23:49.

chosen to sing this year's Poppy Appeal single The Call, but her

:23:50.:24:06.

performance ended with a surprise. There are not many ten-year-old

:24:07.:24:10.

girls who can say they have performed at the Royal another call.

:24:11.:24:17.

Her dad, who is serving with the Navy in the Indian Ocean would not

:24:18.:24:24.

be able to see her. Or so she thought. We have a surprise for you.

:24:25.:24:39.

After four months apart, father and daughter were reunited. When they

:24:40.:24:45.

said they had a surprise for me, I looked round at the screen and when

:24:46.:24:50.

the curtain open, they said, is that really my dad. Her father said he

:24:51.:24:57.

was delighted to be able to make this one. It was absolutely amazing.

:24:58.:25:05.

If someone could give me a list of 50 different emotions, it ticks

:25:06.:25:13.

every box. It was fantastic. I am indebted to everybody for the work

:25:14.:25:16.

and effort you put in to make this moment for hours. It was really

:25:17.:25:25.
