6pm. It's goodbye from me and on BBC One, we join our teams where you | :00:00. | :00:00.
are. lorry driver has died and thousands | :00:00. | :00:26.
of homes are without power tonight after gusts of 90 mph swept | :00:27. | :00:30.
Scotland. It has been a day of travel chaos. | :00:31. | :00:39.
I am live in Glasgow's Central Station with the very latest on the | :00:40. | :00:45.
travel situation across the country. Energy companies battled to restore | :00:46. | :00:53.
supplies. Also tonight, Scotland's, budget gets a ?300 million boost | :00:54. | :00:58.
from the Chancellor's Autumn Statement, but a row has broken out | :00:59. | :01:03.
between the Scottish and UK governments about the future of oil | :01:04. | :01:07.
revenues. Back on track, the first time to | :01:08. | :01:14.
travel along Princes Street since 1956 complete a successful test run. | :01:15. | :01:20.
And Scotland's referees stop short of a strike but say they need better | :01:21. | :01:27.
guarantees of protection. Good evening. Winter storms have | :01:28. | :01:32.
battered Scotland over the past 24 hours, as rain, snow and hail | :01:33. | :01:37.
brought the road and rail network to a standstill. In West Lothian, a | :01:38. | :01:42.
lorry driver was killed when his truck was blown over. Electricity | :01:43. | :01:46.
lines were brought down and is 1.100 and 30,000 homes were without power. | :01:47. | :01:52.
Police warned people against taking to the rounds. Reporters have been | :01:53. | :01:56.
out and about throughout the day. Let's join Catriona Renton at | :01:57. | :01:59.
Glasgow Central Station. The whole rail network was shut down and the | :02:00. | :02:04.
station evacuated this morning. What is the picture there now? | :02:05. | :02:10.
This sign says it all and you will see the departure boards are pretty | :02:11. | :02:16.
empty but things are starting gradually here to get back to normal | :02:17. | :02:17.
this evening. This place was deserted this | :02:18. | :02:27.
morning, as high wind brought the rail network to a standstill. | :02:28. | :02:35.
Robbins on the road as well. Police advised motorists not to drive in | :02:36. | :02:38.
the South, the West and the central belt. There have been multiple road | :02:39. | :02:42.
traffic accidents and one lorry driver in West Lothian was killed. | :02:43. | :02:46.
My colleagues from around the country will bring you the very | :02:47. | :02:50.
latest this evening. First a report from the scene of that fatal crash | :02:51. | :02:55.
just outside of age. It was just after 8am this morning that a gust | :02:56. | :03:01.
of wind appears to have blown this lorry across the carriageway into | :03:02. | :03:07.
the trees and of the road. -- Bathgate. The driver died but | :03:08. | :03:13.
remarkably only four other people sustained minor injuries. When you | :03:14. | :03:16.
see the impact of the trailer has had on the vehicles underneath its | :03:17. | :03:20.
weight, it is remarkable their injuries were not more serious. In | :03:21. | :03:24.
the West of Edinburgh, this car was crushed under a falling tree. | :03:25. | :03:28.
The driver was freed and is in a stable condition in hospital. The | :03:29. | :03:32.
wind tore through the city as people made their way to work and school. | :03:33. | :03:36.
The Forth Road Bridge was vulnerable to the gusts. Be highest recorded | :03:37. | :03:44.
wind speed was 191 mph this morning. IMac in the Borders, the A68 was | :03:45. | :03:53.
closed for a time. Here even Christmas was on the ropes. We have | :03:54. | :04:00.
lost our nativity scene. As the wind fell, the tide rose. The East Coast | :04:01. | :04:11.
serge peaked at 4pm this afternoon. We have not had anything as bad here | :04:12. | :04:16.
since 1953. The worst of the weather has passed that a flood warning | :04:17. | :04:20.
remains in place for the early hours of tomorrow morning. No time to | :04:21. | :04:26.
reflect on the wind damage as the Arctic last did all it could to | :04:27. | :04:30.
hinder repair work. Is is still coming through. This family had a | :04:31. | :04:36.
lucky escape when a tree crashed through their roof feet of from | :04:37. | :04:43.
where they were sleeping. I heard this almighty bang so I went rushing | :04:44. | :04:47.
through to my son's room to make sure he was OK. When I came onto the | :04:48. | :04:52.
landing I looked up to see a tree through my bathroom roof. There were | :04:53. | :04:58.
long tailbacks on the M90 after this lorry flipped over on the Friarton | :04:59. | :05:04.
Bridge. This car in Info Rory was one of many which had to be dragged | :05:05. | :05:09.
from floodwaters. The storms moved in from the North, heating Shetland | :05:10. | :05:14.
first, where ferries were cancelled and fishing boats were pulled free. | :05:15. | :05:25.
We were able to dispatch a tug boat and we now have the boats safely | :05:26. | :05:30.
moored. The roof of this building in Lewis was blown off. It stopped | :05:31. | :05:35.
short of crashing into nearby houses. It has not in the rear | :05:36. | :05:44.
windscreen and caused heavy denting to one car and the other has damage | :05:45. | :05:49.
to the roof. If the wind and rain had not made it clear enough, this | :05:50. | :05:52.
snowy scene which followed reaffirmed the message that winter | :05:53. | :05:58.
has arrived. All that is left of a taxi, hit by a | :05:59. | :06:03.
tree in Hamilton. Its occupants were taken to hospital. Their condition | :06:04. | :06:08.
is not known. In Glasgow's West end, the people in this car had a lucky | :06:09. | :06:12.
escape. High sided lorries were particularly at risk. The A76 was | :06:13. | :06:19.
blocked for a time near Dumfries. Police Scotland described road | :06:20. | :06:23.
conditions as extremely dangerous. The whole of Scotland has been | :06:24. | :06:27.
affected. Trees have fallen down. You can hear in the background the | :06:28. | :06:32.
sound of trees being cleared. That is a familiar picture right across | :06:33. | :06:35.
Scotland. We are recovering heavy goods be a cause which have crashed | :06:36. | :06:38.
and unfortunately there has been a number of road crashes as well. Rail | :06:39. | :06:46.
passengers fared no better. They had expected delays but eventually the | :06:47. | :06:50.
entire rail network had to be shut down. O was evacuated when debris | :06:51. | :06:59.
hit the roof. -- Glasgow Central Station was evacuated. The stigma it | :07:00. | :07:03.
is just the weather in Scotland. I suppose I cannot blame them. Many | :07:04. | :07:11.
homes are still without electricity. Extra engineers are | :07:12. | :07:15.
still working to reconnect customers but despite their efforts, many will | :07:16. | :07:19.
be without power overnight. Ferries and flights also remain disrupted. | :07:20. | :07:23.
The advice is to check with your operator before setting out. | :07:24. | :07:28.
That is the picture across the country from today. Let's get the | :07:29. | :07:33.
latest on the travel situation on the trains. I'm joined by the | :07:34. | :07:36.
managing director of ScotRail will stop it has been a difficult day for | :07:37. | :07:41.
you and your passengers. What is happening now? Network rail have | :07:42. | :07:47.
managed to improve the lot of roots and we can now introduce services so | :07:48. | :07:52.
hopefully we will see services go back to some normality tonight. | :07:53. | :07:57.
Let's look ahead to the morning. What is the situation there? We | :07:58. | :08:04.
expect to run a near normal service tomorrow morning. We would just ask | :08:05. | :08:08.
able to check the websites and we will put out as much information as | :08:09. | :08:13.
we can tonight as we are advised how the roots of. Thank you. The | :08:14. | :08:20.
passengers here had been extremely tolerant all day. Now there are | :08:21. | :08:24.
still problems on the roads. Many remain locked because of fallen | :08:25. | :08:30.
trees, debris, flooding and in the North even some snow. The advice is | :08:31. | :08:34.
whatever mode of transport you are planning on taking, please check | :08:35. | :08:41.
before you set out. Thank you. That is the picture for travellers | :08:42. | :08:45.
on the road and rail networks but as we have been hearing, many people | :08:46. | :08:49.
are still without electricity as engineers from Scottish Hydro and | :08:50. | :08:51.
ScottishPower battle to restore supplies. | :08:52. | :08:55.
Our reporter joins us from North Kessock. | :08:56. | :09:02.
Yes, tens of thousands of people woke up this morning to darkness of | :09:03. | :09:07.
outside and inside their homes. The lights of Inverness you can see over | :09:08. | :09:11.
there but here in North Kessock, the only lights are our own. I invite | :09:12. | :09:16.
was one of those people who woke up this morning without electricity. It | :09:17. | :09:20.
shows you the dangers of having an electric alarm clock. Engineers were | :09:21. | :09:25.
placed around the country in anticipation of problems this | :09:26. | :09:29.
morning and they were mobilised as false were reported. Throughout the | :09:30. | :09:33.
morning, more and more customers were phoning in to report no power. | :09:34. | :09:39.
At one point, 130,000 people were without electricity, although | :09:40. | :09:42.
throughout the day that has been much reduced. At this point, our aim | :09:43. | :09:48.
is to have as many customers back on supply with him today as we possibly | :09:49. | :09:53.
can manage, but as you say, it is an early stage, as we move through the | :09:54. | :09:57.
highest rarities, additional work will come to light and we will be | :09:58. | :10:07.
getting engineers out to those. And tonight engineers are still battling | :10:08. | :10:11.
to restore supplies. The wind has abated but there are still some snow | :10:12. | :10:15.
showers coming through and just a short time ago, something like | :10:16. | :10:19.
40,000 homes were still without power. Most of those should be | :10:20. | :10:22.
reconnected during the evening, but not all of them. What the power | :10:23. | :10:27.
companies say is that people should be careful if they are using the | :10:28. | :10:31.
likes of candles or paraffin heaters in their homes, and if they have | :10:32. | :10:35.
been without power all day and they have neighbours who are perhaps | :10:36. | :10:39.
elderly or vulnerable, it might be an idea to check how they are. A | :10:40. | :10:45.
pretty rough day across the whole country. | :10:46. | :10:47.
Our weather presenter is here now. How did all this happened? What | :10:48. | :10:54.
causes this extreme weather? It is down to a deepening the Atlantic low | :10:55. | :10:59.
tracking to the North of us. Look at the tightly packed isobars. They | :11:00. | :11:03.
gave us the storm force wind. For a winter storm, it is not that | :11:04. | :11:09.
unusual. The storm of January 2012 gave us a gust of 102 mph. But what | :11:10. | :11:16.
is unusual this time is the potential for storm surges and for | :11:17. | :11:20.
that to happen, several key elements in the two fall into place. You need | :11:21. | :11:24.
the pressure, the high tide and the strong wind. In this instance, | :11:25. | :11:27.
low-pressure sitting out in the North Sea and low-pressure when it | :11:28. | :11:32.
is over open water leads to a rise in sea level and as the wind | :11:33. | :11:35.
strengthens, that gets pushed towards the coast and that is when | :11:36. | :11:38.
we can see some issues with coastal flooding, as we have seen to some | :11:39. | :11:42.
extent in the East of Scotland, but it is more of a concern South of the | :11:43. | :11:47.
border. And you will be back with a full forecast at the end of the | :11:48. | :11:53.
programme. Still to come: Back on track. | :11:54. | :11:55.
The first try to travel along Princes Street since 1956 completes | :11:56. | :12:01.
a successful test run. -- the first tram. | :12:02. | :12:12.
INAUDIBLE . In sport, Scottish referees will not | :12:13. | :12:17.
strike that say more work is needed to give them more protection. More | :12:18. | :12:28.
in the sports section. The Scottish Government's budget is | :12:29. | :12:33.
set to increase by more than ?300 million pounds over the next two | :12:34. | :12:36.
years, the Chancellor has announced. George Osborne says the extra cash, | :12:37. | :12:39.
part of his Autumn Statement, means spending by the Scottish Government | :12:40. | :12:42.
would be cut by less than 0.2%. But Finance Secretary John Swinney says | :12:43. | :12:46.
the increase fails to make up for earlier cuts. In a moment, we'll get | :12:47. | :12:50.
the reaction in Holyrood from our political editor, Brian Taylor, but | :12:51. | :12:52.
first here's our westminster correspondent, Tim Reid. | :12:53. | :13:02.
Autumnal scenes at Westminster, no sign of the high winds elsewhere, | :13:03. | :13:12.
instead a political storm. . Oil forecast are independently produced | :13:13. | :13:15.
by the Office for Budget Responsibility so either the SNP | :13:16. | :13:21.
believes that it has been -- numbers have been fiddled to stack up their | :13:22. | :13:26.
against independence or the truth is this, they are making a false | :13:27. | :13:32.
promise to the Scottish people. The Office for Budget Responsibility has | :13:33. | :13:35.
reduced by ?4 billion the amount that North Sea oil will contribute | :13:36. | :13:40.
to the economy, ?3 billion less than the SNP estimates. It assumes | :13:41. | :13:51.
increased investment in the North Sea oil and gas sector, and that | :13:52. | :13:56.
leads to less production in the medium and longer term, I don't | :13:57. | :14:00.
think those two assumptions of increased investment and lower | :14:01. | :14:02.
production are particularly credible. The Chancellor has | :14:03. | :14:08.
allocated extra money to Scotland's budget with ?10 million for building | :14:09. | :14:12.
on Shetland in Scotland's ministers match it. You're the Scottish | :14:13. | :14:16.
Government now has to make a choice about whether they are going to take | :14:17. | :14:21.
the same priorities that we have two help the economy to go or whether | :14:22. | :14:25.
they want to spend the money elsewhere. Scottish ministers say | :14:26. | :14:29.
plans that could see school leavers having to work until 69 before | :14:30. | :14:34.
getting a pension will be reviewed after independence. Opponents say | :14:35. | :14:38.
that raises more questions. With the prediction on decreasing oil | :14:39. | :14:44.
revenues, with the challenge of raising pension ages, the SNP need | :14:45. | :14:49.
to give this -- a sense of how they will fill these black holes. No | :14:50. | :14:55.
disagreement today, over ?10 million for a sign said -- re-signed centre. | :14:56. | :15:01.
This statement is the last before Scotland decide its future. It has | :15:02. | :15:10.
become one more battle ground for those who want independence and | :15:11. | :15:16.
those who do not. I'm joined now from the Scottish | :15:17. | :15:21.
parliament Brian Taylor, Brian, I am sure the Scottish Government will | :15:22. | :15:24.
have been watching the statement closely. What is the reaction in | :15:25. | :15:30.
Holyrood? because of that referendum, everything is seen | :15:31. | :15:36.
through the prism. Let's talk about pensions. You have to work longer to | :15:37. | :15:41.
get one. The Scottish Government say some of the increase can be deferred | :15:42. | :15:46.
and -- and then -- under independence. Business rates, the | :15:47. | :15:51.
Chancellor is capping business rates in England. I'm betting that John | :15:52. | :15:57.
Swinney will match that exactly when he announces next Wednesday. | :15:58. | :16:01.
Childcare, you have that core issue and argument, the Scottish | :16:02. | :16:04.
Government says it is a big offer under independence as a venue can | :16:05. | :16:09.
get the tax revenues back that allow it to be funded. The opponents say | :16:10. | :16:13.
you have some money now, get on with it. Alexander is comforted by one | :16:14. | :16:17.
thing that the issue of the possible offer is being discussed by his | :16:18. | :16:24.
rivals. He borrows the line from Burns. | :16:25. | :16:29.
It was billed as a Dragons' Den-style competition to regenerate | :16:30. | :16:32.
struggling Scottish town centres. But BBC Scotland can reveal that all | :16:33. | :16:35.
seven of the winners of the pilot Retail Rocks project have now either | :16:36. | :16:39.
shut down or moved out of the Aberdeen community where it launched | :16:40. | :16:43.
three years ago. Fiona Stalker reports. | :16:44. | :16:52.
Final preparations for the opening of her new gallery. This artist was | :16:53. | :16:58.
a retail rock winner. She shut up shop in Tory last week. It was great | :16:59. | :17:06.
at first. There was a tangible air of something happening. After six | :17:07. | :17:12.
months, it all died down and we were left it to our own devices. There | :17:13. | :17:16.
was some support, but I think they should have been more strategic | :17:17. | :17:22.
support and a longer term plan. The aim was to help regenerate the | :17:23. | :17:26.
community, once a thriving district. Now, all of the Retail Rocks | :17:27. | :17:30.
businesses have either shot or left the area. Budding entrepreneurs were | :17:31. | :17:40.
given empty shops for a year. What went wrong? Don't think football is | :17:41. | :17:48.
enough just yet. But I will say is that the Retail Rocks came at a time | :17:49. | :18:00.
during the downtime - downturn. Shops don't last long around here. | :18:01. | :18:05.
They're here for a few months and gone. They just aren't making a | :18:06. | :18:12.
success any more. The streets just like this now with hardly any shops. | :18:13. | :18:17.
Sheila hopes her business can continue to grow, sadly not here. | :18:18. | :18:30.
Plans for an offshore wind farm which would be seen from Donald | :18:31. | :18:33.
Trump's Aberdeenshire golf resort have been put back to 2017. The | :18:34. | :18:36.
Trump Organisation has taken legal action over the Scottish | :18:37. | :18:39.
Government's decision to approve the project. | :18:40. | :18:41.
HGVs using the A9 between Dunblane and Inverness will be allowed to | :18:42. | :18:45.
travel at up to 50mph as a result of average-speed cameras being | :18:46. | :18:52.
introduced next year. Lorry drivers have warned that the existing 40mph | :18:53. | :18:55.
limit would lead to long tailbacks and more accidents. | :18:56. | :18:59.
A ?13 million redevelopment of the terminal at Aberdeen Airport will be | :19:00. | :19:02.
the biggest change since it opened in 1977. New baggage reclaim areas | :19:03. | :19:07.
and more shops and restaurants are included in the plans. | :19:08. | :19:11.
The work should be completed by 2017. | :19:12. | :19:15.
The arts charity NVA has been given a first grant from the Heritage | :19:16. | :19:18.
Lottery Fund to develop the derelict St Peter's College in Cardross as a | :19:19. | :19:23.
visitor attraction. The former training college for priests closed | :19:24. | :19:30.
more than 30 years ago. A new centre for scientific innovation is to | :19:31. | :19:32.
named after the Nobel-winning physicist Professor Peter Higgs. | :19:33. | :19:35.
It'll be built at Edinburgh's Royal Observatory and will focus on space | :19:36. | :19:44.
technologies. And there are more stories from your area - and all the | :19:45. | :19:48.
latest news, 24 hours a day on BBC Scotland's website. | :19:49. | :19:53.
It may be years late and hundreds of millions of pounds over budget, but | :19:54. | :19:58.
the Edinburgh tram project finally has something to celebrate. Late | :19:59. | :20:01.
last night, a tram successfully completed the first test run along | :20:02. | :20:04.
the capital's most famous shopping street. Our transport correspondent, | :20:05. | :20:16.
David Miller, was there to watch. 11pm, Haymarket station and tram to | :20:17. | :20:23.
64 is heading for Princes street. It is the first one to run on these | :20:24. | :20:29.
streets for more than 50 years. It is emotional as I was here in 1956 | :20:30. | :20:35.
on my father's shoulders. And ever thought I would see it again. The | :20:36. | :20:40.
tram is flanked by teams of engineers. Tram bosses say they are | :20:41. | :20:48.
back in control. We have all worked together, whether that is transport | :20:49. | :20:54.
Scotland, we have all worked together to make sure that we get | :20:55. | :21:01.
back on the timetable. It is approaching 1230 am and the tram has | :21:02. | :21:08.
completed its first run up long Princes street. This is a milestone | :21:09. | :21:14.
for the project. But it is a milestone that is long overdue. And | :21:15. | :21:18.
there are many more tests to be completed before the trams can enter | :21:19. | :21:26.
service next May. It is a start. Our team have been delighted to bring | :21:27. | :21:30.
the first tram back into the city. There is a great excitement for it. | :21:31. | :21:39.
The trams are almost silent at times, unlike there many critics. | :21:40. | :21:55.
Now it is time for the sports news. Two of Scottish football's most | :21:56. | :21:58.
senior managers say referees need to be protected. | :21:59. | :22:01.
It follows the two-match ban given to Dundee United striker Nadir | :22:02. | :22:04.
Ciftci, for excessive misconduct towards an official. And although | :22:05. | :22:07.
the Referees Association say the length of the ban is deeply | :22:08. | :22:09.
dissatisfying, they're not considering a strike, as John Barnes | :22:10. | :22:18.
reports. This is the incident that has | :22:19. | :22:24.
Scottish football talking. Dundee United's Nadir Ciftci placing his | :22:25. | :22:27.
hands on the throat of the assistant referee. Today, the referees say | :22:28. | :22:32.
they will not back down on their battle for protection. Despite | :22:33. | :22:35.
having been given the reasons for the two-game ban, the referees say | :22:36. | :22:41.
they stand by their original communication at the leniency of the | :22:42. | :22:44.
band sent out the wrong message. They added: | :22:45. | :22:58.
one man who was close to the incident understands clarity over | :22:59. | :23:06.
punishment is important. It is good to talk things through, we don't | :23:07. | :23:12.
talk about that enough. If we can do that, then an event like that -- | :23:13. | :23:18.
events like that, we can get to the bottom quickly and make sure that | :23:19. | :23:21.
everyone knows what the punishments are and why they have been | :23:22. | :23:26.
delivered. Another with history when it comes to referees understands | :23:27. | :23:43.
there. I understand that some people think it was too lenient, you have | :23:44. | :23:47.
to take each individual case on its own merits. That is what has | :23:48. | :23:52.
happened here. You wanted to detect referees, to. More talking to be | :23:53. | :23:58.
done, but no strike. Stephen Maguire has been knocked out | :23:59. | :24:01.
of the UK Snooker Championship. Going through is the Australian | :24:02. | :24:04.
world number one Neil Robertson who beat Maguire by six frames to two. | :24:05. | :24:07.
Maguire was the last remaining Scot in the competition but has exited in | :24:08. | :24:17.
the quarterfinals. Andy Murray won't win the Australian Open in January, | :24:18. | :24:26.
according to John McEnroe. Murray has yet to play a match since a back | :24:27. | :24:30.
operation in September, and McEnroe thinks he won't be fit enough to add | :24:31. | :24:34.
to his Wimbledon title. Dunfermline will play Rangers at | :24:35. | :24:37.
Ibrox in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. Ryan Thomson scored | :24:38. | :24:41.
for the Pars as they beat Ayr United 1-0 in their fourth round replay. | :24:42. | :24:46.
Glasgow Warriors have named their side to meet Cardiff Blues tomorrow. | :24:47. | :24:49.
Warriors skipper Al Kellock will make his 50th Heineken Cup | :24:50. | :24:52.
appearance at Cardiff Arms Park tomorrow night. He made 20 Cup | :24:53. | :24:57.
appearances for Edinburgh and 30 for Glasgow. | :24:58. | :25:01.
Eilidh Child will carry the flag as she captains the first ever Scotland | :25:02. | :25:04.
team to contest the Glasgow International Match in January. The | :25:05. | :25:07.
hurdler will lead a 22-strong team. It's the first major international | :25:08. | :25:10.
event in Glasgow in Commonwealth Games year. | :25:11. | :25:12.
And there are more sports stories, plus all the latest news, 24 hours a | :25:13. | :25:14.
day on BBC Sport Scotland's website. That is all of the sport. Before we | :25:15. | :25:35.
find out about the weather, this was the genetic scene our cameras | :25:36. | :25:38.
captured in Glasgow at lunchtime. the genetic scene our cameras | :25:39. | :25:43.
captured in At day refreshed by from the winds and rain, dark clouds | :25:44. | :25:50.
spread across the sky bringing snow. How is it looking? | :25:51. | :25:54.
I am pleased to say that the winds have calmed down. Tonight, our | :25:55. | :26:01.
attention shifts away from the strength of the wind and tin -- | :26:02. | :26:06.
towards further snow and outbreaks of rain. You can see the strongest | :26:07. | :26:10.
winds push away to the east along with that area of low pressure. | :26:11. | :26:14.
Tonight, we have a Met Office and yellow be aware warning in force for | :26:15. | :26:19.
those snow showers. We could see five or ten centimetres for Shetland | :26:20. | :26:23.
and the North Highlands and Aberdeenshire. Strong to gale force | :26:24. | :26:29.
winds here, just saw 70 mph the Shetland. Miserable conditions with | :26:30. | :26:32.
drifting and blizzard conditions over the high ground. Elsewhere, it | :26:33. | :26:37.
becomes dry. A few showers drifting down the West Coast, on the whole | :26:38. | :26:41.
it'll be clear, cold and there will be a risk of ice. Is separate Met | :26:42. | :26:46.
Office warning is in force for that, particularly where services are wet | :26:47. | :26:50.
following showers. Temperature, tonight will be widely below | :26:51. | :26:55.
freezing, -6 or seven Celsius in parts. Tomorrow will start bitterly | :26:56. | :27:02.
cold. We will keep a fleet of snow showers coming into the Northern | :27:03. | :27:05.
Isles and around northern coasts. Through the day, cloud increases in | :27:06. | :27:09.
the West as this week warm front pushes in. I say warm, but as the | :27:10. | :27:14.
moisture in it meets the cold air, we will see outbreaks of light and | :27:15. | :27:18.
patch is now pushing north eastwards across the country. Should not | :27:19. | :27:23.
amount to much. For most places, dry weather with some sunshine although | :27:24. | :27:26.
cloud increasing for the afternoon. It will be a cold day with | :27:27. | :27:36.
temperatures not getting much above freezing. But we have lost the | :27:37. | :27:38.
strong winds. Still strong over Shetland at first. Then they will | :27:39. | :27:41.
ease. Winds will be easing down, but it will be a bitterly cold day. That | :27:42. | :27:45.
theme continues through the rest of the afternoon. This weather front | :27:46. | :27:49.
continues to push in and eventually will bring milder air, so the snow | :27:50. | :27:53.
will turn increasingly to rain which is a sign of things to come for the | :27:54. | :27:57.
weekend. Milder, but rain in the West, we will lose the strong winds. | :27:58. | :28:03.
That is Reporting Scotland. I will be back with the headlined at 8pm | :28:04. | :28:09.
and the late bulletin at 10:30pm. Good night. | :28:10. | :28:14. |
