Good evening. NHS Lothian has apologised for failings in its

procedures after a patient was infected with hepatitis C after

being admitted to hospital. An investigation shows that the patient

is likely to have become infected through cross-contamination, while

being treated in the hospital. Lisa Summers reports.

It was in July that the patient came here. It was my understanding he was

undergoing a certain medical procedure when they cross

contamination of current. Hepatitis C affects around 1% of the

population in Scotland but it can cause serious damage to the lover

and symptoms such as depression and fatigue. NHS Lothian apologised

unreservedly. We are offering the patient treatment. What happened was

the hepatitis C infection spread from one patient to another and we

believe that was the result of blood contamination. It card at one

particular time in the emergency department. The health board has

said it has now be viewed its procedures to make sure it does not

happen again. Patients treated at the same time have been offered

testing and advice as a precaution. A special helpline has been set up

for anyone with any concerns. A convicted murderer has pleaded

guilty to killing a man he met while in prison. Andrew Fisher met Craig

McKenzie while serving time in jail for killing his wife. Catriona

Renton reports from the High Court in Edinburgh.

48-year-old Andrew Fisher admitted in court today he killed a man but

it was not the first life he had taken. In 1990 he murdered his wife

and was released on licence 11 years later. While in prison he met Craig

McKenzie who also had a conviction for murder. He came to Craig

McKenzie's flat in Edinburgh and repeatedly stabbed him. He said he

did this because Craig MacKenzie had raped him but the court said there

was no evidence of this. He has been diagnosed with a psychotic illness.

Andrew Fisher's lawyer said it would be of concern to the public that a

man with a conviction for murder had been released and gone on to take

the life of another. He is to be detained in a state hospital for the

next three months and psychiatrists will then delivered a report. His

lawyer said the public will be protected from him for many years

that he is ever released at all. Final preparations are underway for

Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations which are marking their 21st

anniversary. The famous street party and fireworks will see people coming

to the capital from over sixty countries across the world.

Organisers say they expect it to pass off peacefully, with very few

arrests. We fully sit in a very low-key way. We try to engage with

the public and make sure they enjoy themselves but also remains safe and

well and that has played out positively in terms of the

atmosphere of the crowd on the success of the party.

The renowned Scottish artist Eric Auld has died at the age of 82. The

north east of Scotland featured heavily in his work, and an art

collection spanning 60 years was displayed at Aberdeen University

earlier this year. Eric Auld was a graduate of Gray's School of Art in

Aberdeen and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Around 2000 homes are still without power in Scotland. The majority are

in Dumfries and Galloway and parts of South Ayrshire. ScottishPower

says high winds are delaying repairs to some power lines. The company

says it's bringing in extra contractors to work in the worst

leaves low-pressure moves northwards with showers and when conditions but

things easing in the South. Two warnings in place this weekend and

we went and sat at the peak at the moment. Further outbreaks of heavy

rain in the south and parts of the lowlands. The ground is already

saturated sodium is the potential for localised flooding particularly

Tayside. The showers keep piling in through the evening but the ease and
