showers in the west and south. That's all from the | :00:00. | :00:15.
Tonight on Reporting Scotland: Paying for the national debt. | :00:16. | :00:20.
The Treasury steps in to reassure international money markets if | :00:21. | :00:24.
Scotland became independent. A murder trial hears that it was | :00:25. | :00:28.
difficult to tell how this woman died because her body had lain | :00:29. | :00:32.
undiscovered for so long. The Athletes' Village in Glasgow is | :00:33. | :00:35.
completed and officially handed over to the organisers of the | :00:36. | :00:45.
Commonwealth Games. I am in Linlithgow, hoping for some | :00:46. | :00:47.
stargazing. And the boxers who nearly came to | :00:48. | :00:54.
blows before the fight. Scots fighter Steven Simmons loses his | :00:55. | :00:57.
cool at an event that was supposed to be promoting world champion Ricky | :00:58. | :00:58.
Burns' next fight. The Treasury is promising the | :00:59. | :01:07.
international money markets that it will honour all UK Government debt | :01:08. | :01:10.
issued up to the date of independence. It's making the move | :01:11. | :01:13.
to stop uncertainty about the sharing of debt pushing up the cost | :01:14. | :01:17.
of borrowing. Here's our business and economy editor, Douglas Fraser. | :01:18. | :01:26.
Remember this? The bills are about to come in. If you are looking at | :01:27. | :01:32.
?1200 for the festive splurge, imagine what it looks like for the | :01:33. | :01:35.
Government. It is facing a bill that is... | :01:36. | :01:43.
That has brought as roads, hospitals, schools, ships, it has | :01:44. | :01:53.
kept public services running. In the independence debate, switching to a | :01:54. | :01:57.
new Holyrood credit card, both sides agree that they would have to | :01:58. | :02:01.
negotiate a fair share of the debt. The SNP Government said it could be | :02:02. | :02:06.
up to ?130 billion, but it says that it doesn't get joint control of the | :02:07. | :02:10.
pound and a sheriff assets then it is not promising a deal on | :02:11. | :02:18.
liabilities. At the Treasury in London, they see investors are | :02:19. | :02:21.
nervous that a dispute could raise the risk of nonpayment and that | :02:22. | :02:26.
could push up borrowing costss. The coalition Government thinks that | :02:27. | :02:29.
Scotland will face higher costs anyway. The markets fear that the | :02:30. | :02:34.
independent Scotland will be as creditworthy as the UK. The risks | :02:35. | :02:38.
are made higher by Mr Salmond going around threatening to default. | :02:39. | :02:45.
The Scottish Government responds that only the Treasury could have | :02:46. | :02:48.
defaulted on the First Minister thinks he has nailed down a | :02:49. | :02:52.
concession. If you take your share of the liabilities, you are entitled | :02:53. | :02:55.
to your share of the assets, that is reasonable. The Treasury, up until | :02:56. | :03:01.
now, have not been prepared to discuss that. Hopefully now with | :03:02. | :03:05.
this announcement, this victory for common sense, we can get into some | :03:06. | :03:11.
discussions. Finance experts welcomed the clarity and a serious | :03:12. | :03:16.
issue. I think it is important they reassure the market as there has | :03:17. | :03:20.
been a lot of discussion of dividing debt and assets and it has never | :03:21. | :03:24.
been clear what is involved. Coming out and making it clear that | :03:25. | :03:28.
investors who hold UK Government debt will be paid by the UK | :03:29. | :03:33.
Government. This is important as our debt levels are high and the UK has | :03:34. | :03:38.
a track record going back to Charles II of never having default it on its | :03:39. | :03:42.
debt. The next question is the interest rate. The answer may be | :03:43. | :03:48.
very technical, but sharing out the debt is highly political. | :03:49. | :03:53.
Our political editor Brian Taylor joins me now. So, Brian, is there a | :03:54. | :03:56.
political motivation behind all this? Everything is political in | :03:57. | :04:04.
this year, but this one is especially political as it is about | :04:05. | :04:10.
trust. It is about reassurance. From the Treasury perspective, Danny | :04:11. | :04:13.
Alexander is saying there is an institutional anxiety, a core | :04:14. | :04:17.
fundamental problem, about the concept of independence and that has | :04:18. | :04:21.
been borne out in the market, hence the... Alex and says this is | :04:22. | :04:26.
perfectly a common-sense response. He said it was highlighted in the | :04:27. | :04:31.
White Paper. He also says this is about the Treasury blinking first in | :04:32. | :04:35.
terms of these negotiations about independence and he thinks it gives | :04:36. | :04:39.
Scots and leverage over the issue of the sterling zone. No, says the | :04:40. | :04:42.
Treasury. The Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael has also been | :04:43. | :04:44.
speaking today about independence, what has he been saying? A New Year | :04:45. | :04:50.
and new initiatives from the new sides -- the two sides. Nicholas | :04:51. | :04:56.
Turgeon believes they must put forward detail of the room. Mr | :04:57. | :05:01.
Carmichael says it will be done on his terms and his terms are that | :05:02. | :05:04.
there are huge advantages to be gained from the unions staying | :05:05. | :05:11.
together. We have greater financial protection for savers and | :05:12. | :05:16.
pensioners. We have greater levels of competition, delivering cheaper | :05:17. | :05:19.
mortgages and insurance is for families and businesses. We invest | :05:20. | :05:25.
in research, infrastructure and industry to remain at the forefront | :05:26. | :05:29.
of new developments. We have a single labour market which allows | :05:30. | :05:32.
people to move freely within the UK for jobs and we use our | :05:33. | :05:37.
international influence to make a positive difference. The Scottish | :05:38. | :05:43.
Government has set out in detail the case for an independent Scotland, it | :05:44. | :05:48.
is set out in the White Paper. The onus is on the no campaign to stop | :05:49. | :05:55.
spreading fears and smears and instead answer some questions of | :05:56. | :05:59.
their own. I have published 50 questions that it is really | :06:00. | :06:03.
incumbent on the no campaign to answer. Let's have some answers from | :06:04. | :06:06.
them and then we can compare and contrast. What did Alastair | :06:07. | :06:11.
Carmichael have to say about that? He pointed out that his own party | :06:12. | :06:16.
have a plan in place, that Labour and the Conservatives will shortly | :06:17. | :06:22.
coming up with their plans for potential more powers for Holyrood. | :06:23. | :06:26.
He believes there will be an offer, maybe not a single offer, but he | :06:27. | :06:30.
believes they will be an offer to rival independence. | :06:31. | :06:37.
And BBC Scotland has a new series of referendum debates, beginning in | :06:38. | :06:40.
Greenock on the 21st of January and touring the country over the next | :06:41. | :06:43.
nine months. If you'd like the chance to come along and put your | :06:44. | :06:46.
questions to senior politicians, then go to our website for details. | :06:47. | :06:49.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. Still to come on the | :06:50. | :06:53.
programme: Food for thought, the new academic qualification for all | :06:54. | :06:58.
things gastronomic. In sport, Ricky Burns says he and | :06:59. | :07:02.
his broken jaw are ready for action. He faces what some are calling the | :07:03. | :07:06.
toughest fight of his career in March. | :07:07. | :07:09.
And the heat is on Andy Murray as temperatures soar in Melbourne. It's | :07:10. | :07:12.
his first grand slam after back surgery and Murray's rivals say he's | :07:13. | :07:15.
still a threat. All the big hitters in the sport coming soon. | :07:16. | :07:27.
A murder trial has heard that it wasn't possible to tell how a woman | :07:28. | :07:30.
whose dismembered body was found on a hill in Edinburgh had died. A | :07:31. | :07:33.
pathologist said the condition of Philomena Dunleavy's remains made it | :07:34. | :07:36.
difficult to reach a conclusion on the nature of her death. Mrs | :07:37. | :07:39.
Dunleavy's son James denies murdering and dismembering his | :07:40. | :07:41.
mother, and burying her on Corstorphine Hill. Joanne Macaulay | :07:42. | :07:50.
was in court. Doctor Ian Wilkinson, a pathologist | :07:51. | :07:53.
for NHS Lothian, examine the remains when they were still on Corstorphine | :07:54. | :07:58.
Hill last June and later carried out a full postmortem examination. | :07:59. | :08:02.
Doctor Wilkinson described marks and bruising on the head and broken | :08:03. | :08:06.
ribs. He said there was also reading on the head, possibly caused by a | :08:07. | :08:10.
blunt instrument. But the pathologist said because of the | :08:11. | :08:16.
time, it was not possible to say how she died and the official cause of | :08:17. | :08:20.
death was listed as I ascertained. Doctor Wilkinson was asked whether | :08:21. | :08:26.
it is possible that she was alive but unconscious when they saw blade | :08:27. | :08:31.
was used on one of her thighs. He said it was most likely that she was | :08:32. | :08:35.
already dead when her legs and head were cut off. He said because of the | :08:36. | :08:41.
condition of the body, it was difficult to get a conclusive cause | :08:42. | :08:47.
of death. The court also heard from Detective Brian Manchester who was | :08:48. | :08:51.
one of the police officers who detained the accused James Dunleavy | :08:52. | :08:55.
last summer after he reported his mother missing. A transcript of an | :08:56. | :08:58.
interview was read in which he answered no comments to most of the | :08:59. | :09:02.
questions which were put to him. A month earlier, Mrs Dunleavy's body | :09:03. | :09:08.
had been on Earth from the shallow grave on Corstorphine Hill. James | :09:09. | :09:12.
Dunleavy denies murder. The trial at the High Court in Edinburgh | :09:13. | :09:18.
continues with the prosecution expected to close its case tomorrow. | :09:19. | :09:25.
A man who killed a former leader of East Dunbartonshire Council with a | :09:26. | :09:28.
single punch days before last Christmas has been jailed for five | :09:29. | :09:31.
years. 25-year-old Darren Murphy hit John Morrison in the face in Dunlop | :09:32. | :09:35.
Street in Glasgow causing him to fall over and hit his head. Murphy | :09:36. | :09:38.
then left the 50-year-old lawyer in the street to go to a nightclub. He | :09:39. | :09:42.
claimed to have acted in self defence, but was convicted of | :09:43. | :09:45.
culpable homicide at the High Court in Glasgow. | :09:46. | :09:47.
It is one of the biggest housing projects in Europe and the | :09:48. | :09:50.
Commonwealth Athletes' Village in the East End of Glasgow is now | :09:51. | :09:53.
complete. Today, organisers have taken ownership of the properties to | :09:54. | :09:56.
get them ready for the games. Here's our Commonwealth Games reporter, | :09:57. | :10:04.
Lisa Summers. Just a little landscaping left and | :10:05. | :10:07.
the shape of this village in the heart of the East End of Glasgow is | :10:08. | :10:11.
complete. It has been a challenge to design a village fit for over 6000 | :10:12. | :10:15.
athletes, as soon as the games as gone can be turned into family homes | :10:16. | :10:20.
and stop this place will be buzzing. This home will accommodate | :10:21. | :10:24.
about 16 athletes, so for example this room will be a communal living | :10:25. | :10:30.
space. The real challenge for builders is to how to turn it into | :10:31. | :10:34.
family homes after. After the games, this will be sealed off and an | :10:35. | :10:41.
entirely different family home. Living spaces will become attics, | :10:42. | :10:44.
walls will be partitioned and bedrooms turned into kitchens. | :10:45. | :10:49.
We have a one-bedroom flats, up to four bedroom detached houses. Then | :10:50. | :10:54.
we have a care home. There will be other facilities in time, small, | :10:55. | :11:00.
shop facilities and a new community centre. The first of the homes goes | :11:01. | :11:05.
on public sale at the start of debris ranging from ?75,000 up to | :11:06. | :11:10.
?200,000. 400 properties will be rented. It is part of the | :11:11. | :11:16.
regeneration project for Glasgow's east end. The work to reconvert them | :11:17. | :11:20.
won't start until November. Now it is down to the team to make if you | :11:21. | :11:24.
decisions. Which teams don't like each other? It is easier to say | :11:25. | :11:31.
which teams do. There is always quite a camaraderie, but also a | :11:32. | :11:35.
rivalry between the home nations. A lot of the smaller teams tend to | :11:36. | :11:40.
club together. When the new owners pick up the keys, someone have a | :11:41. | :11:44.
good story to tell about the previous occupants. | :11:45. | :11:49.
Last week, the BBC TV series Stargazing Live 2014 had us all | :11:50. | :11:52.
gazing skywards. Tonight, there's a further chance to learn more about | :11:53. | :11:55.
everything from comets to constellations at a spin off event | :11:56. | :11:58.
in Linlithgow. Our reporter Aileen Clarke is there poised amongst the | :11:59. | :12:01.
telescopes. Aileen, you're hoping for a clear night sky, how's it | :12:02. | :12:09.
looking? After tell you that it is a bit | :12:10. | :12:14.
cloudy. Fingers crossed, you never know, we'll keep them crossed. The | :12:15. | :12:20.
rain is. The telescopes are out and poised. After last week on the telly | :12:21. | :12:24.
we have been looking towards the sky. It has whetted our appetites. | :12:25. | :12:32.
Some people still got a pretty good view in the north of Scotland of the | :12:33. | :12:37.
Northern lights. On the 2nd of January, John in Orkney decided it | :12:38. | :12:41.
was too cold to sit out and instead set the camera up outside his house | :12:42. | :12:46.
to do the watching for him. This is the result of around 300 | :12:47. | :12:52.
photos taken between 9pm and 12:30am. Despite some cloud, you can | :12:53. | :12:56.
see the green light to show illuminating the horizon. We are | :12:57. | :13:01.
used to seeing rainbows, but in Shetland Johnny Simpson caught | :13:02. | :13:05.
this. It is created by moonlight. In this | :13:06. | :13:12.
one, you can see the aurora making an appearance on the left. In | :13:13. | :13:19.
Caithness, Karen was out at 11:30pm to capture the aurora above some | :13:20. | :13:26.
standing stones. Here in Linlithgow, this event is | :13:27. | :13:31.
here to help us find out what else we should be looking for. I'm joined | :13:32. | :13:37.
by someone from the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. Northern | :13:38. | :13:39.
lights were a bit disappointing, but there is more to look for. Lots of | :13:40. | :13:45.
things to look out for. One thing people could look out for in | :13:46. | :13:50.
Scotland at the moment is Jupiter, is to spot, very bright. Lots of | :13:51. | :13:54.
mums and dads and children coming tonight. What is the first thing | :13:55. | :14:02.
they should look out for? One of the easiest consolations to spot, to | :14:03. | :14:06.
recognise, is Orion and that is very visible in the South. One of the | :14:07. | :14:13.
easiest ways to recognise it is the three stars of Orion's out, almost | :14:14. | :14:17.
the same brightness in a straight line. It is a great place to start. | :14:18. | :14:26.
To help them in that regard, you have a planetarium set up inside the | :14:27. | :14:30.
hall here. That will give them a few clues. We have lots of activities | :14:31. | :14:36.
going on inside. Even though we have clout, we have a night sky inside. | :14:37. | :14:42.
We are keeping our fingers crossed that the cloud does move and that -- | :14:43. | :14:47.
and dust part so we get a good view of the night sky. -- has part. | :14:48. | :15:00.
Other stories from across Scotland this Monday. | :15:01. | :15:06.

killing all 16 men on board. A man has been jailed for eight | :15:20. | :15:23.

incidents. It follows a review of operations and feedback from the | :15:48. | :15:50.
public. Work has started on a new ?15 | :15:51. | :15:55.
million bridge over a river in Aberdeen. It is hoped it will help | :15:56. | :15:59.
ease traffic congestion and should be complete by autumn of next year. | :16:00. | :16:04.
This is a clear sign that this project is happening and it is going | :16:05. | :16:09.
to be built. The money is there, the work is happening. They will be able | :16:10. | :16:14.

landowners say they will oppose moves by the Highland Council to | :16:21. | :16:23.
take over their land to build the so-called West Link bypass around | :16:24. | :16:28.
Inverness. It could mean a public inquiry will have to be held. Cars | :16:29. | :16:32.
will be banned from Edinburg's Waverley station. Only taxis | :16:33. | :16:38.
retirements and some disabled travel services will be granted access. The | :16:39. | :16:45.
move is to reduce congestion and increase safety. Scottish locations | :16:46. | :16:49.
could feature in more Hollywood blockbusters after the Ministry of | :16:50. | :16:52.

are being offered to film makers and broadcasters. | :17:01. | :17:03.

the past few weeks? Well, the UK's first MSc in gastronomy begins near | :17:19. | :17:21.
Edinburgh this month. But it's not a course in how to eat well. It spans | :17:22. | :17:25.
everything from global food injustice to food history and | :17:26. | :17:27.
subjects range from diets to politics. Morag Kinniburgh reports. | :17:28. | :17:33.
Gastronomy comedy at of good eating. The UK's first MSc in it | :17:34. | :17:40.
claims to be more than fine dining. Students will learn from experts on | :17:41. | :17:47.
side. -- on site. It is not about pretty pictures on plates. It is | :17:48. | :17:54.
about real food with integrity. Soup kitchens and food banks are as | :17:55. | :17:57.
important as top end cuisine. We want to create a more serious | :17:58. | :18:02.
dialogue around food and drink in Scotland. We also want to try and | :18:03. | :18:07.
reconnect people with good, local, healthy food. There is funding for | :18:08. | :18:13.
five years. The hope is graduates will become agents of change, | :18:14. | :18:16.
promoting a more holistic approach to healthy eating. My interest is to | :18:17. | :18:23.
help people to negotiate the food industry and their weekly shop, to | :18:24. | :18:29.
have more knowledge and understanding and confidence of what | :18:30. | :18:33.
they are buying. It gives me a base where I can network more, make more | :18:34. | :18:39.
contacts and have that sort of formal qualification. Hopefully, it | :18:40. | :18:42.
would take me to a job where I can try and influence the way people | :18:43. | :18:48.
think about food in the country. University thinks the course will | :18:49. | :18:53.
pave the way for changing Scotland's food and drink, making | :18:54. | :18:56.
the degree more a matter of social change rather than fine dining. | :18:57. | :19:05.
It all looks lovely! Let's turn our attentions to sport | :19:06. | :19:09.
and some verbal sparring at the boxing, Rhona. | :19:10. | :19:14.
Scotland's world boxing champion Ricky Burns says his jaw is ready to | :19:15. | :19:18.
face his American challenger Terence Crawford. Burns' jaw was broken in | :19:19. | :19:21.
his last fight, but he's now back sparring ahead of his first bout | :19:22. | :19:25.
back in March. However, the build up to all of that was overshadowed | :19:26. | :19:29.
today, as Alasdair Lamont reports. This report contains flash | :19:30. | :19:32.
photography. Today was supposed to be about this plan, defending this | :19:33. | :19:37.
belt. Instead, Ricky Burns took second billing to Stephen Simmons. | :19:38. | :19:44.
You are getting smashed. He is defending his international silver | :19:45. | :19:50.
cruiserweight title against the Englishman. As you can hear, there | :19:51. | :19:54.
is no love lost. Shall we go out in the car park now? Maybe not a great | :19:55. | :20:00.
idea to allow them to get up close and personal than. It did not end | :20:01. | :20:07.
there. You are going to be in a world of pain. The real star knows | :20:08. | :20:12.
all about pain. He says his jaw is standing up to the punches. The | :20:13. | :20:17.
first one, that was the worry. Always in the back of your head. Now | :20:18. | :20:23.
it has been tested, I know it is OK. Another six weeks to go. Fingers | :20:24. | :20:29.
crossed, we will have no accidents. I remember sitting in the hospital | :20:30. | :20:32.
with him and he was in a huge amount of pain. I was not sure he would | :20:33. | :20:35.
never fight again. But something in him once to do it again, don't ask | :20:36. | :20:41.
me what it is. He is a warrior. Scotland should be proud. It will be | :20:42. | :20:45.
huge night. That could be an understatement. | :20:46. | :20:54.
It's back to Grand Slam business for Andy Murray after back surgery. He | :20:55. | :20:57.
opens his account at the Australian Open tomorrow. Murray meets Japan's | :20:58. | :21:00.
Go Soeda around 6am UK time. Now, the Scot is playing down his chances | :21:01. | :21:04.
of success, but his rivals aren't. Kheredine Idessane reports from the | :21:05. | :21:07.
sweltering heat of Melbourne. Day one and the sparkling sunshine | :21:08. | :21:14.
of Melbourne. Fun for all the family. Andy Murray has been putting | :21:15. | :21:23.
his back into practice. All is well after surgery last year. But after a | :21:24. | :21:26.
three-month outcome he is talking down his chances of a third grand | :21:27. | :21:30.
slam title. I am not looking at that this year. The expectations can | :21:31. | :21:37.
change through the course of an event, but I am not thinking so much | :21:38. | :21:42.
about that just now. I do love this tournament. I have played some of my | :21:43. | :21:47.
best tennis here. Andy Murray says he will not know whether he is a | :21:48. | :21:50.
genuine contender until he gets a few matches under his belt. A | :21:51. | :21:54.
potential quarterfinal opponent who knows a thing or two about the game | :21:55. | :21:59.
says he cannot be discounted. He has played great tennis at Wimbledon and | :22:00. | :22:05.
here at the Australian open last year. He won the US Open. He knows | :22:06. | :22:11.
how to play on the hard courts. Also sweet on Andy Murray's prospects, | :22:12. | :22:14.
the defending champion had chocolates for the media and warm | :22:15. | :22:20.
words for the Scot. One of the main contenders wherever he plays because | :22:21. | :22:22.
he has improved his game significantly. Since he started | :22:23. | :22:28.
working with Ivan Lendl. He has been more aggressive on the court. This | :22:29. | :22:33.
is the man Andy Murray faces first, Japan's Go Soeda leader. -- goes so | :22:34. | :22:40.
I either. Perhaps the more formidable challenge will be the | :22:41. | :22:47.
heat. Some people's protection is less effective than others! | :22:48. | :22:51.
Now, a look at what else is happening across Scottish sport. | :22:52. | :22:58.
Neil Lennon's attempts to sign the Norwegian midfielder Stefan Johansen | :22:59. | :23:01.
are an advanced stage. He left his national team's training camp with | :23:02. | :23:06.
the Norwegian FA saying he was in final negotiations with a club. | :23:07. | :23:11.
Edinburgh rugby scrum halves Sean Kennedy and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne have | :23:12. | :23:15.
extended contracts until at least 2016. They are considered some of | :23:16. | :23:18.
the brightest talents in the Scottish game. If Alan Soloman's | :23:19. | :23:24.
master plan coming to fruition? The process will take some time to come | :23:25. | :23:28.
to fruition. We are making good progress and that is the important | :23:29. | :23:31.
thing. Still a long way to go. I'm really happy with the progress we | :23:32. | :23:35.
have made to date. John Higgins is true to the quarterfinals of the | :23:36. | :23:38.
Masters snooker in London. He beat Stuart Bingham bust up he will face | :23:39. | :23:43.
the reigning champion Mark Selby next fireplace the semifinals. | :23:44. | :23:49.
World-class athletics is set to stay in the capital until at least 2018. | :23:50. | :23:54.
The new Deal has been signed for the event-macro -- for the Great | :23:55. | :24:00.
Edinburgh XCountry event. There are most sports stories plus | :24:01. | :24:04.
all of the latest news 24 hours a day on BBC Sport Scotland's website. | :24:05. | :24:10.
We will be back tomorrow with a report on Andy Murray. | :24:11. | :24:21.
Good evening. Tricky conditions on the roads tonight one way or | :24:22. | :24:27.
another. We have a band of heavy showers tracking east. That is only | :24:28. | :24:31.
half the story. We have a yellow warning from the Met Office of a | :24:32. | :24:35.
risk of ice. That is right across the country. Skies will clear and | :24:36. | :24:40.
temperatures will tumble and we will see a widespread frost with | :24:41. | :24:45.
temperatures as low as minus four in parts of Aberdeenshire and mist and | :24:46. | :24:51.
fog forming too as winds stay light. A frosty start. Mist and fog | :24:52. | :24:56.
lingering in places. Most places will see sunshine. In the | :24:57. | :25:00.
afternoon, cloud increases from the West ahead of this next feature, a | :25:01. | :25:04.
band of rain. After such a cold start, the sun will not have much | :25:05. | :25:07.
time to warm things up before the cloud full to them. The coalfields | :25:08. | :25:20.
of the day. -- a cold feel to the day. Winds will freshen and we will | :25:21. | :25:24.
see something a wee bit milder faux western coastal fringes. The winds | :25:25. | :25:29.
will reach gale force over the western Isles by the end of the day. | :25:30. | :25:32.
By tomorrow evening, the rain pushes in and it turns to snow over the | :25:33. | :25:37.
high ground. We have a second Met Office yellow warning in force | :25:38. | :25:43.
particularly for the high ground of the Highlands, Perthshire and | :25:44. | :25:46.
Aberdeenshire. A few centimetres settling at lower levels. As much as | :25:47. | :25:51.
ten centimetres over high ground. It will turn to rain as the milder air | :25:52. | :25:55.
pushes in. Strong winds go with it. Wednesday, cloud and rain hanging | :25:56. | :26:00.
around. A grey and wet and windy start. It stays wet and windy over | :26:01. | :26:05.
Shetland. Elsewhere, we will see a gradual improvement from the | :26:06. | :26:09.
Northwest through the day. It is a slow process. Temperatures, the | :26:10. | :26:15.
mildest day of the week. Thursday, we lose a little on the temperature | :26:16. | :26:18.
front. But we gain a brighter day with sunshine. The best of it in the | :26:19. | :26:25.
East. Now, a reminder of tonight's main | :26:26. | :26:29.
news. The Treasury is promising the international money markets that it | :26:30. | :26:32.
will honour all UK Government debt issued up to the date of Scottish | :26:33. | :26:35.
independence. It's making the move to stop uncertainty about the | :26:36. | :26:38.
sharing of debt pushing up the cost of borrowing. | :26:39. | :26:40.
A pathologist has told a murder trial that the condition of | :26:41. | :26:43.
Philomena Dunleavy's remains made it difficult to reach a conclusion on | :26:44. | :26:46.
the nature of her death. Mrs Dunleavy's son James denies | :26:47. | :26:49.
murdering and dismembering his mother and burying her on | :26:50. | :26:50.
Corstorphine hill. Councils in England are being | :26:51. | :26:53.
offered millions of pounds in extra business rates if they back | :26:54. | :26:56.
controversial fracking schemes. Warnings from health experts that | :26:57. | :26:59.
half the British population will be obese by 2050 could actually be an | :27:00. | :27:03.
underestimate. The National Obesity Forum is claiming that, unless | :27:04. | :27:06.
there's a significant change in our lifestyle, we're heading for what it | :27:07. | :27:10.
calls a doomsday scenario. And that's Reporting Scotland. I'll | :27:11. | :27:14.
be back with the headlines at 8pm and the late bulletin just after the | :27:15. | :27:17.
ten o'clock news. Until then, from everyone on the team, have a very | :27:18. | :27:20.
good evening. | :27:21. | :27:26. |
