the windscreen first thing in the morning. That is all from us. Now, | :00:00. | :00:13.
Tonight on Reporting Scotland. A mother is charged with murder. | :00:14. | :00:20.
Rosdeep Adekoya appeared in court this afternoon after her | :00:21. | :00:22.
three-year-old son Mikaeel Kular was found dead in Fife woodland. | :00:23. | :00:29.
BBC Scotland finds further evidence that Scots are being wrongly charged | :00:30. | :00:37.
care home costs. The actual guidelines are so rigid | :00:38. | :00:45.
and so hard to qualify for that nobody in Scotland can qualify for | :00:46. | :00:49.
them. Also on the programme. Scottish | :00:50. | :00:55.
researchers are pushing the frontiers of space, with technology | :00:56. | :00:58.
that helps us peer further into the universe than ever. | :00:59. | :01:01.
And packing his bags but not going home. Andy Murray is through to play | :01:02. | :01:05.
Roger Federer for a place in the semi finals of the Australian Open. | :01:06. | :01:10.
The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has appeared in court late | :01:11. | :01:13.
this afternoon charged with his murder and attempting to defeat the | :01:14. | :01:20.
ends of justice. It follows the discovery of the boy's body in woods | :01:21. | :01:24.
behind a house in Fife at the weekend. A massive search was | :01:25. | :01:27.
launched for Mikaeel after he was reported missing from his home in | :01:28. | :01:30.
Edinburgh by his mother Rosdeep on Thursday. Our reporter Steven Godden | :01:31. | :01:36.
is in Edinburgh for us tonight. There has been an intense focus on | :01:37. | :01:39.
this court building throughout the day. Mikaeel Kular's mother advised | :01:40. | :01:46.
around midday. Four hours later, her hearing took place, it lasted only a | :01:47. | :01:53.
few moments. She faces two charges. One charge of murder. Leading the | :01:54. | :01:58.
back door of the court building, a van believed to be carrying Mikhail | :01:59. | :02:05.
cooler's mother. She was arrested on Saturday night after her son's body | :02:06. | :02:13.
was discovered in woodland. The 33-year-old appeared in court under | :02:14. | :02:18.
her married name Rosdeep Adekoya. She was told she faces two charges, | :02:19. | :02:22.
one of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and the other of murder. | :02:23. | :02:27.
She made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody ahead of | :02:28. | :02:36.
another Private hearing to be held next week. Last night, locals | :02:37. | :02:41.
gathered for a vigil to remember the toddler. This morning, his | :02:42. | :02:46.
classmates were offered support as they returned to nursery for the | :02:47. | :02:51.
first time since hearing the news. Their parents were sent letters by | :02:52. | :02:55.
police asking for information on Mikaeel's movements last week. It is | :02:56. | :03:02.
tragic, especially as we have to share this with our children. | :03:03. | :03:13.
Devastated. He is in the next class to my son. Terrible. This image was | :03:14. | :03:19.
first seen last Thursday when he was reported missing from his home. Over | :03:20. | :03:24.
the next 48 hours, hundreds of locals were involved in the search. | :03:25. | :03:29.
Then came the announcement everybody was dreading. | :03:30. | :03:35.
We have recovered the body of a young boy in Fife, shortly before | :03:36. | :03:43.
midnight. His body was discovered close to their former home in | :03:44. | :03:48.
Kirkcaldy. The investigation is continuing. Forensic officers are | :03:49. | :03:56.
carrying out a search of the house. Meanwhile, people arrived to lay | :03:57. | :04:11.
flowers. BBC Scotland has further evidence | :04:12. | :04:14.
that vulnerable are being wrongly charged care home costs. The BBC has | :04:15. | :04:18.
learned of three people who are minimally conscious or in a | :04:19. | :04:21.
vegetative state who have been told they're not ill enough for NHS | :04:22. | :04:23.
funding. Our health correspondent Eleanor Bradford is here with more. | :04:24. | :04:31.
Who gets their care costs paid? Everyone gets free personal care, | :04:32. | :04:34.
help with washing and toileting. If you have assets under ?25,000, you | :04:35. | :04:38.
get some or all of your care costs paid by the council. If you have | :04:39. | :04:44.
complex ongoing health needs, you should get your care costs paid by | :04:45. | :04:48.
the NHS under an arrangement called continuing health care. Last year we | :04:49. | :04:53.
revealed how, in England, the number of people getting this benefit is | :04:54. | :04:58.
rising. In Scotland, it's falling. As I've been finding out, some of | :04:59. | :05:02.
the Scots being told they don't qualify are in a vegetative state, | :05:03. | :05:05.
which prompts the question, just how sick do you have to be to get this | :05:06. | :05:10.
benefit? On a crisp winter's morning, I | :05:11. | :05:13.
visited Robert Fyans's house. Robert's mother has been in a care | :05:14. | :05:17.
home for the last three years. A severe stroke left her in a | :05:18. | :05:21.
vegetative state. But despite that, Robert has been told the NHS will | :05:22. | :05:26.
not pay for her care home costs. The actual NHS health care guidelines | :05:27. | :05:30.
are so rigid and so hard to qualify for that nobody apparently in | :05:31. | :05:38.
Scotland can qualify for it. Or very few people in Scotland could | :05:39. | :05:51.
qualify. We commissioned an independent expert to look into Mrs | :05:52. | :05:55.
Fyans' case. She concluded that if Mrs Fyans lived in England, she | :05:56. | :05:59.
would have all her care bills paid for by the NHS, a sum which so far | :06:00. | :06:05.
exceeds ?40,000. Last year, the Health Secretary urged anyone who | :06:06. | :06:08.
felt they had been unfairly charged for care to contact him. Robert did | :06:09. | :06:17.
that, but the decision stood. The purpose of contacting me is not for | :06:18. | :06:21.
me to make the decision. These are clinical decisions made by senior | :06:22. | :06:27.
doctors. The last thing anybody would want is for these decisions to | :06:28. | :06:30.
be made by politicians or ministers. Lawyers say the way patients are | :06:31. | :06:37.
being assessed is not fair. At present, if you need this care in | :06:38. | :06:41.
Scotland, you are disadvantaged compared to someone living in | :06:42. | :06:45.
England or Wales. As there is no appeal system in | :06:46. | :06:49.
Scotland and Mr Fyans cannot afford to go to court, his mother's flat is | :06:50. | :06:53.
still up for sale to pay for the care home bills. Several Scottish | :06:54. | :07:01.
charities have told the BBC they believe people aren't getting the | :07:02. | :07:04.
NHS funding they're entitled to. A review into this whole system of | :07:05. | :07:07.
continuing health care is due out shortly. | :07:08. | :07:09.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. Still to come on the | :07:10. | :07:12.
programme. Why tourism is becoming increasingly important to the Forth | :07:13. | :07:15.
rail and road bridges. In sport, we are in Melbourne as | :07:16. | :07:19.
Andy Murray beats Frenchman Stephane Robert at the Australian Open to set | :07:20. | :07:22.
up a quarterfinal against Roger Federer. And after this season's | :07:23. | :07:28.
European adventure ended for both Glasgow and Edinburgh, how will it | :07:29. | :07:30.
impact Scotland's upcoming Six Nations campaign? | :07:31. | :07:38.
Claims about the standard of care at a private school in Aberdeen are | :07:39. | :07:43.
being investigated. The Care Inspectorate has confirmed to BBC | :07:44. | :07:46.
Scotland that it's become aware allegations in connection with the | :07:47. | :07:49.
Hamilton School. The claims have been made by former staff and | :07:50. | :07:53.
parents. Our reporter Fiona Stalker is outside the school for us | :07:54. | :08:03.
tonight. What more can you tell us? The Hamilton School, a privately run | :08:04. | :08:08.
school, in Aberdeen, it was set up in 1975. Akira inspected it told us | :08:09. | :08:14.
this afternoon that it had been made aware of allegations in connection | :08:15. | :08:19.
with the school. It had passed on those allegations to Aberdeen City | :08:20. | :08:23.
Council. It is up to the Council officials to determine whether or | :08:24. | :08:26.
not there is an issue that needs to be investigated. The council told us | :08:27. | :08:31.
this afternoon that staff had had a meeting here at the Hamilton School | :08:32. | :08:36.
to discuss the matter. In May and June last year, the care | :08:37. | :08:39.
Inspectorate upheld complaints against this school. They were over | :08:40. | :08:47.
staff training, staff levels, staff qualifications and communications | :08:48. | :08:53.
between staff. Has the school has anything to say? | :08:54. | :09:00.
We have got a statement from Hamilton School here. The care | :09:01. | :09:07.
Inspectorate are responding to allegations and initiated by a | :09:08. | :09:10.
disgruntled former employee in the nursery department. They are duty | :09:11. | :09:15.
bound to investigate the complaint. We will offer them entry support in | :09:16. | :09:20.
their investigations, but I am satisfied with my staff and | :09:21. | :09:25.
procedures at the school. She says she is appalled at the allegations. | :09:26. | :09:35.
She continues, we have an exemplary history and we continue to maintain | :09:36. | :09:39.
the highest possible standards of care and education for all of our | :09:40. | :09:44.
children. We are greatly reassured by the many messages of support | :09:45. | :09:48.
which parents, former parents and staff have offered. | :09:49. | :09:54.
Thank you. Tributes have been paid to an off | :09:55. | :09:58.
duty paramedic who died after being swept into the sea in Aberdeenshire. | :09:59. | :10:01.
43-year-old Peter Trudgill was walking with his family near | :10:02. | :10:03.
Stonehaven harbour when the incident happened on Saturday afternoon. The | :10:04. | :10:06.
Scottish Ambulance Service says Mr Trudgill was an exemplary paramedic | :10:07. | :10:10.
who will be sadly missed by all of his colleagues. | :10:11. | :10:13.
Scottish researchers have developed a new laser technique to help us see | :10:14. | :10:18.
further into space than ever before. The team at Heriot-Watt university | :10:19. | :10:23.
are producing photonic lanterns. They enable a new generation of | :10:24. | :10:26.
telescopes to look back in time. Here's our science correspondent | :10:27. | :10:34.
Kenneth Macdonald. Ever since Galileo first pointed a | :10:35. | :10:37.
telescope at the stars, we have wanted to see deeper into space. A | :10:38. | :10:43.
new generation of extremely large telescopes will help us do just | :10:44. | :10:53.
that. Bigger telescopes bring more celestial light. But that brings | :10:54. | :11:01.
problems. The way that the light is handled by the telescope has not | :11:02. | :11:03.
changed much since the day of Galileo. | :11:04. | :11:06.
Astronomers have always wanted bigger telescopes and are hoping to | :11:07. | :11:09.
build bigger telescopes in the future. But as the telescopes get | :11:10. | :11:12.
bigger, the instruments get bigger as well. And soon they will be | :11:13. | :11:15.
unmanageably large. Unless you can make those sensors | :11:16. | :11:19.
much smaller. That is what they are doing at Herriot Watt University, | :11:20. | :11:21.
they are creating photonic lanterns, tiny glass devices that handle the | :11:22. | :11:24.
individual photons of light like electrons in a cirbuit. -- circuit. | :11:25. | :11:38.
We are able to write into the material optical circuits, analogous | :11:39. | :11:45.
to electrical wires. Each laser pulse in this process | :11:46. | :11:49.
lasts just one million millionth of a second. The photonic lanterns they | :11:50. | :11:51.
create could revolutionise astronomy. We can break away from | :11:52. | :12:01.
the constraints that conventional optics present. By using photonic | :12:02. | :12:04.
technologies, we can guide and mould the flow of the light from the | :12:05. | :12:15.
telescope into the instrument. They have already been tested on | :12:16. | :12:18.
existing telescopes and will be ready for the next generation of | :12:19. | :12:21.
extremely large devices. These big telescopes can do almost anything, | :12:22. | :12:29.
they can detect planets around nearby stars and we can also hope to | :12:30. | :12:30.
detect galaxies right at the edge of the universe. | :12:31. | :12:34.
The further away we can see, the further back in time we will be | :12:35. | :12:37.
looking. One day, perhaps, tantalisingly close to the big bang. | :12:38. | :12:48.
Other stories from across Scotland this Monday. | :12:49. | :12:53.
More needs to be done to tackle the drop in UK oil and gas exploration. | :12:54. | :12:57.
The chief executive of Oil and Gas UK says high taxation is one reason | :12:58. | :13:00.
for what he describes as the collapse in spending in the North | :13:01. | :13:04.
sea. Just 15 wells were drilled last year compared to nearly 50 in 2008. | :13:05. | :13:10.
Research suggests the Pentland Firth could one day provide enough | :13:11. | :13:13.
renewable energy to power about half of Scotland. Engineers from | :13:14. | :13:16.
Edinburgh and Oxford Universities said turbines placed in the stretch | :13:17. | :13:19.
of water could generate 1.9 giga watts of clean energy. | :13:20. | :13:28.
Police say a 30-year-old local man will be reported to the Procurator | :13:29. | :13:31.
Fiscal in connection with a fire that destroyed the village shop at | :13:32. | :13:34.
Kirkcum in Galloway early on Sunday morning. -- Kirkholm. It leaves | :13:35. | :13:43.
villagers facing a 15-mile round trip to Stranraer for basic | :13:44. | :13:46.
provisions and post office services although moves are underway to set | :13:47. | :13:50.
up a temporary shop in the village hall. I am absolutely devastated. | :13:51. | :13:57.
This was going to be everything. My son and myself worked really hard to | :13:58. | :14:06.
give the community their shop. It's been revealed that 54 lorries | :14:07. | :14:09.
have crashed into this railway bridge in the past seven years. The | :14:10. | :14:14.
Challoch Bridge on the A75 at Dunragit, near Stranraer, is thought | :14:15. | :14:17.
to be the most frequently struck bridge in the UK. A new by-pass to | :14:18. | :14:21.
take traffic away from the bridge is nearing completion. | :14:22. | :14:23.
A new lifeboat is now in operation at the RNLI's station in North | :14:24. | :14:29.
Kessock in the Black Isle. The institute says it has increased | :14:30. | :14:32.
capacity for crew and improved search and rescue for the whole of | :14:33. | :14:34.
the Moray Firth. And there are more stories from your | :14:35. | :14:38.
area and all the latest news on BBC Scotland's website. Now the Forth | :14:39. | :14:48.
and rail bridges are significant transport links, but they're | :14:49. | :14:54.
becoming increasingly valuable tourist attractions. As the road | :14:55. | :14:59.
bridge celebrates its 50th birthday, both are developing significant | :15:00. | :15:06.
business. Underneath the Forth road bridge, | :15:07. | :15:10.
look closely, you can glimpse traffic passing above. The bridge | :15:11. | :15:15.
was designed to move with the elements. It's a bit disconcerting | :15:16. | :15:19.
at first... Workers are proud of the bridge. They hope this anniversary | :15:20. | :15:23.
who will improve the image by drivers who moan about the age. We | :15:24. | :15:28.
forget how difficult it was in the age of ferries. Bridges provoid a | :15:29. | :15:34.
visual statement, they look elegant, fantastic, they're engineering | :15:35. | :15:39.
marvels. The amount of traffic has grown six times since it opened. | :15:40. | :15:43.
Lorries are twice as heavy. There are congestion and Croatian | :15:44. | :15:47.
problems. So a Newbridge is being built alongside. Then this one will | :15:48. | :15:51.
be used for public transport walkers and cyclists and there are ambitious | :15:52. | :15:55.
plans to build significant tourist business too. I know there's talk | :15:56. | :15:59.
and plans about having a canopy on the top of the towers that people | :16:00. | :16:05.
can walk around, like the Eiffel Tower, something similar. There will | :16:06. | :16:07.
be more of a connection with this bridge, even if it's only to look at | :16:08. | :16:12.
the other two either side. The road and rail bridges are opening to | :16:13. | :16:16.
visitors more than before. Each is planning different tourist | :16:17. | :16:18.
opportunities to come on top of these structures, encouraging the | :16:19. | :16:21.
general public to take these bridges to heart instead of maybe just | :16:22. | :16:27.
taking them for granted. The rail bridge is already admired worldwide. | :16:28. | :16:31.
Bosses here are finalising a massive visitor development to make more of | :16:32. | :16:36.
this attention. We're a train service, that's why the bridge is | :16:37. | :16:40.
here. However, the bridge has such a lovely place in the hearts of people | :16:41. | :16:44.
in Scotland, we think there's an opportunity for letting everyone | :16:45. | :16:47.
experience the bridge. Will be over a year before the public can make | :16:48. | :16:53.
bridge walks here. But 2,000 trips on the road bridge this summer will | :16:54. | :16:54.
mark its half century. Now it's hopped the forth coming | :16:55. | :17:08.
Commonwealth Games will be inspiring for children and not just on the | :17:09. | :17:11.
playing fields. Commonwealth Class is a series of debates bringing | :17:12. | :17:14.
together schools from across the world. This week they've been | :17:15. | :17:24.
discussing homelessness. Key six, seven is watching a film about Joe | :17:25. | :17:32.
Hodgson. I'm a 400 metre runner. After moving to London, he found | :17:33. | :17:36.
himself homeless for a short time. This is where me and my partner used | :17:37. | :17:41.
to come to try and find somewhere nice and warm and safe to sleep at | :17:42. | :17:46.
night. Did he have a place to go? No. So he became... Homeless. Not | :17:47. | :17:51.
just here in Scotland that Joe's story is being discussed. Someone | :17:52. | :17:58.
from Sri Lanka says... 700 schools across every Commonwealth nation and | :17:59. | :18:02.
territory are taking part in a debate streamed online. Other | :18:03. | :18:06.
countries have very different issues than we have near Scotland. It gives | :18:07. | :18:12.
them more of a real-life context to learn about tolerance and to learn | :18:13. | :18:17.
about working together. Hi! Today Scotland is linking up live to | :18:18. | :18:24.
India. Is your country looking forward to the Commonwealth Games | :18:25. | :18:32.
and why? I would love to see the Commonwealth Games. I'm anxiously | :18:33. | :18:36.
waiting to watch the inaugural ceremony and the spectacular | :18:37. | :18:40.
performances. The projects run by the BBC British Council and | :18:41. | :18:44.
secretariat, it uses the Games for wider learning. The few facts | :18:45. | :18:50.
perhaps lost on the way. There's 54 countries and we have all been | :18:51. | :18:55.
joined up by the British Empire that was once upon a time. Equality, | :18:56. | :19:00.
tolerance, no matter how small your country is everyone has the same | :19:01. | :19:05.
right. The debates take place every fortnight in the run up to the | :19:06. | :19:08.
Games. Now, with news of someone who is | :19:09. | :19:14.
doing well in his Commonwealth gaem, Rhona has the sport. Too bad he's | :19:15. | :19:19.
not going to be at Glasgow 2014. Victory for Andy Murray in the | :19:20. | :19:23.
Australian Open has set up a quarter final with Roger Federer. Murray was | :19:24. | :19:26.
taken to a fourth set for the first time in this year's tournament, as | :19:27. | :19:31.
he beat Frenchman Stephane Robert this morning. | :19:32. | :19:39.
The Murray autograph is as popular as ever. The faith of his fans, | :19:40. | :19:43.
unwaivering. Probably going to come close to taking the Australian Open, | :19:44. | :19:47.
why wouldn't you love him. I think he's back to his best now. He's | :19:48. | :19:51.
going to get to the semis, then after that it's up for grabs. Such | :19:52. | :19:54.
confidence was well placed when Andy Murray sprinted to a two-set lead | :19:55. | :19:59.
against Stephane Robert. But there was nothing lucky about the way he | :20:00. | :20:03.
played in the third. First of all, saving two match points at 5-4 down. | :20:04. | :20:07.
Then in an amazing tie-break, the Frenchman saved a further two match | :20:08. | :20:11.
points which pushed the match into a fourth set, much to Murray's fury. | :20:12. | :20:18.
COMMENTATOR: It's out. Not what we expected. Normal service resumed | :20:19. | :20:22.
shortly afterwards, as the Wimbledon champion secured his place in the | :20:23. | :20:25.
quarter finals by taking the fourth set 6-2. | :20:26. | :20:28.
It's been a good effort so far to get to the quarter finals of a slam, | :20:29. | :20:33.
this soon after back surgery. So I'm happy with that. But, you know, I'm | :20:34. | :20:41.
not far away from winning the event, anyone that's in the quarters is | :20:42. | :20:44.
close. Up next in the quarter finals, arguably the greatest player | :20:45. | :20:48.
ever to pick up a racquet. The good news for Andy Murray is even against | :20:49. | :20:53.
the great Roger Federer, he has a winning head-to-head record, | :20:54. | :20:56.
including here in the semifinals last year. | :20:57. | :20:59.
It was a disappointing weekend for Scottish rugby fans, with both | :21:00. | :21:03.
Edinburgh and Glasgow bowing out of European competition. The focus now | :21:04. | :21:07.
turns to the RBS Six Nations that begins in under two weeks' time. The | :21:08. | :21:14.
form of our pro teams in Europe is causing concern for the prospects of | :21:15. | :21:18.
our national team. This was the last of six tries | :21:19. | :21:22.
scored against Edinburgh by Munster to send them tumbling out of Europe. | :21:23. | :21:28.
We let ourselves down. We let the Edinburgh Jersey down today as well. | :21:29. | :21:32.
That's the most disappointing thing. It won't linger for the rest of the | :21:33. | :21:37.
season. It can't. There's no more Europe. Jonny Wilkinson was the | :21:38. | :21:45.
dagger in the heart of Glasgow. Why do our two professional sides | :21:46. | :21:50.
struggle for success in Europe? Both teams have struggled, Edinburgh a | :21:51. | :21:56.
couple of years ago, no, but both struggle. I think that's sheer | :21:57. | :22:01.
expectation, you get very few chances. In the Celtic chances you | :22:02. | :22:07.
have 20 games. If you get a blip in the Heineken Cup, you're out of the | :22:08. | :22:10.
competition completely. Scotland's first opponents in the six nations | :22:11. | :22:14.
are Ireland. With a side likely to be dominated by home-based players, | :22:15. | :22:20.
will confidence be an issue? Psychologically you'd have preferred | :22:21. | :22:25.
two strong victories, strong performances. I think certainly | :22:26. | :22:28.
Edinburgh was very disappointing yesterday. That Irish game, if you | :22:29. | :22:32.
think Ireland's last game was the last minute defeat against New | :22:33. | :22:37.
Zealand, they'll be really hurting. Our provincial sides are left to | :22:38. | :22:40.
lick their wounds as the players get ready for Six Nations battleground. | :22:41. | :22:46.
Elsewhere, it's been a Big Weekend for several Scots hoping for winter | :22:47. | :22:50.
Olympic success in Sochi and in football, a season-ending knee | :22:51. | :22:54.
injury. Here's what else is happening across Scottish sport. | :22:55. | :23:03.
Elease cysty is the European champion. She has successfully | :23:04. | :23:10.
defended her 1,000 metres title. She believes the winter Games will be a | :23:11. | :23:13.
success. I think it will be one of the best. They've built everything | :23:14. | :23:16.
from scratch. Just now, maybe that doesn't look like it's ready, but | :23:17. | :23:19.
that's just because they're building everything from scratch. Stuart | :23:20. | :23:26.
Benson is set for Olympic selection after Team GB qualified two four-man | :23:27. | :23:33.
bobsleigh teams. He was a sprinter who switched sports with his first | :23:34. | :23:38.
run two years ago. Scots bad Monday ton players were the stars of the | :23:39. | :23:47.
Swedish masters. Ryan Stephenson will miss Hearts League Cup | :23:48. | :23:51.
semifinal against Inverness Cali after being red carded at the | :23:52. | :23:55.
weekend. He was sent off along with St Johnstone keeper. | :23:56. | :24:01.
At the same game, a painful ending for midfielder Murray Davidson, he's | :24:02. | :24:05.
out for the season. The midfielder left for hospital at halftime. He | :24:06. | :24:10.
was having surgery earlier today. There are more sports stories, plus | :24:11. | :24:14.
all the latest News 24 hours a day on BBC Sport Scotland's website. | :24:15. | :24:22.
That's all of your Monday sport. Just before the weather, a reminder, | :24:23. | :24:27.
the first in a series of referendum debates starts tomorrow night on BBC | :24:28. | :24:32.
Two at 9pm. Join James Cook with a panel of senior politicians to | :24:33. | :24:36.
discuss key issues surrounding the independence referendum. | :24:37. | :24:39.
Now to discuss key issues surrounding the weather, it's | :24:40. | :24:43.
Judith. Good evening to you. A changeable | :24:44. | :24:48.
week on the cards. In saying that, a lot of dry weather in the forecast | :24:49. | :24:52.
as far as this evening is concerned. We're already seeing temperatures | :24:53. | :24:55.
dropping so there will be a touch of frost and also possibly some mist | :24:56. | :24:59.
and fog patches by morning. We'll start to see southerly winds freshen | :25:00. | :25:03.
during the night, which will lift temperatures by the end of the | :25:04. | :25:06.
night. Cloud comes in across western areas, outbreaks of rain into the | :25:07. | :25:10.
west. Across the Northern Isles it's windy. We will see a few showers. | :25:11. | :25:15.
Eventually temperatures settling at around three Celsius for most of us. | :25:16. | :25:19.
Tomorrow morning starts off dry with some morning sunshine across eastern | :25:20. | :25:22.
Scotland. That rain gathering force in the west, extending across a good | :25:23. | :25:27.
part of the country come the afternoon. It will fall as snow over | :25:28. | :25:30.
higher ground. We are looking at persistent rain around argyle. More | :25:31. | :25:37.
southern parts, the higher ground, that strong wind driving the rain | :25:38. | :25:41.
into the higher ground here. In sheltered parts towards eastern | :25:42. | :25:46.
Scotland, very little rain reaching here. Across areas north of the | :25:47. | :25:51.
central belt, there's a weather warning for heavy rain here | :25:52. | :25:54.
throughout the afternoon. That rain falling as snow over the higher | :25:55. | :25:58.
ground. Again, as we leap over the mountains into sheltered | :25:59. | :26:03.
Aberdeenshire, very little in the way of rain. Drier conditions and | :26:04. | :26:06.
not too bad a day for the Northern Isles either. Just the odd passing | :26:07. | :26:11.
shower for Shetland. Rain for the Western Isles. It will stay windy | :26:12. | :26:13.
over the Northern Isles. That's something we don't lose tomorrow. | :26:14. | :26:17.
It's quite windy everywhere. The fresh southerly wind across many | :26:18. | :26:21.
parts. That rain falls as know over higher ground, confined to eastern | :26:22. | :26:26.
areas eventually. Drier, clearer conditions coming in by the end of | :26:27. | :26:29.
the night. The weather front responsible for that rain eventually | :26:30. | :26:33.
clears away on Wednesday, but becoming static over the Northern | :26:34. | :26:38.
Isles. It will be a sweat start on Wednesday across eastern Scotland. | :26:39. | :26:41.
Drier conditions in the west push that rain away. It becomes confined | :26:42. | :26:45.
to the Northern Isles. Lighter winds in the west with highs of seven | :26:46. | :26:48.
Celsius. Now a reminder of tonight's main | :26:49. | :26:53.
news: The mother of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular has appeared in court | :26:54. | :26:56.
late this afternoon, charged with his murder and attempting to defeat | :26:57. | :27:00.
the ends of justice. It follows the discovery of the boy's body in woods | :27:01. | :27:07.
in Fife at the weekend. Lord Rennard has been suspended from | :27:08. | :27:11.
the party after refusing to apologise over allegations of sexual | :27:12. | :27:15.
harassment. The long awaited Peace Talks over the crisis in Syria are | :27:16. | :27:18.
due to start on Wednesday, but they've been thrown into disarray | :27:19. | :27:24.
before they've begun. It follows a last-minute invitation asking Iran | :27:25. | :27:28.
to attend. Syria's main opposition group has threatened to pull out. | :27:29. | :27:32.
I'm back with our main update just after the 10pm news. Until then, | :27:33. | :27:36.
from everyone on the team, around the country, enjoy your evening. | :27:37. | :27:37.
Bye-bye. | :27:38. | :27:42. |
