Sunday. Make the most of Saturday because Sunday looks pretty filthy. | :00:00. | 3:59:59
Thank you. Tonight, on Reporting Scotland. | :00:00. | :00:17.
Unemployment in Scotland drops by 25,000 - it's down to its lowest | :00:18. | :00:23.
rate for almost five years. Tackling forced marriage - MSPs vote | :00:24. | :00:27.
to allow the UK parliament to make it a criminal offence but women's | :00:28. | :00:30.
groups warn it could discourage victims coming forward. | :00:31. | :00:35.
This young rugby player died after being concussed during a school | :00:36. | :00:38.
game, now his father says everyone in sport should be aware of the | :00:39. | :00:46.
dangers. He was on the ground for a minute | :00:47. | :00:50.
and a half and had to be helped to his feet. I think that was when the | :00:51. | :00:55.
problem started happening. And Andy Murray's Australian open is | :00:56. | :00:58.
over. He's beaten in the quarter final by | :00:59. | :01:02.
Roger Federer but the Scot says he was proud of the way he played. | :01:03. | :01:08.
Unemployment in Scotland has fallen to its lowest rate for almost five | :01:09. | :01:14.
years. According to official figures, the number of people who | :01:15. | :01:17.
were out of work and seeking a job during the autumn was down by | :01:18. | :01:21.
25,000. Our business correspondent David Henderson is here and can tell | :01:22. | :01:24.
us more. Jackie, this is another clear sign | :01:25. | :01:28.
that the economy's on the mend. During September to November, | :01:29. | :01:31.
employment levels rose. Meanwhile the number of people out of work and | :01:32. | :01:38.
looking for a job fell by 25,000. The jobless total now stands at its | :01:39. | :01:43.
lowest rate for almost five years. And across the UK as a whole, | :01:44. | :01:48.
unemployment also dipped sharply. I've been hearing from some | :01:49. | :01:50.
manufacturers, who're cautiously optimistic about the coming year. | :01:51. | :02:03.
At Scotland's trade feared in Glasgow company is offering what | :02:04. | :02:06.
they make to retailers who will then sell it on to tourists. Signs the | :02:07. | :02:12.
economy picking up with some taking on new staff to meet the rising | :02:13. | :02:20.
demand. We are textile manufacturer with some 800 employees and we see | :02:21. | :02:24.
that going up due to the seasonal nature of our business, but we see | :02:25. | :02:34.
that going up and hopefully growing. I had not possibly experienced a | :02:35. | :02:39.
rise in demand like this since the 1980s and for want of a better word, | :02:40. | :02:44.
we refer to it as the Braveheart factor. With orders rising, other | :02:45. | :02:51.
employers are hiring as well which has caused unemployment is twofold. | :02:52. | :02:57.
Some are finding their is less competition. In 2012 there was | :02:58. | :03:03.
roughly 60 applications forever the vacancy but that has rocked. -- 16 | :03:04. | :03:15.
applications has dropped to 14. Firms hope Scotland's rising profile | :03:16. | :03:20.
can boost their trade thanks to events like the Commonwealth Games | :03:21. | :03:25.
and just outside, this new hotel is being prepared for an influx of | :03:26. | :03:31.
tourists. Unemployment is now at its lowest level for five years and | :03:32. | :03:34.
worked like this may help that continue. | :03:35. | :03:36.
So what now? Well, the Scottish unemployment rate is down to 6.4% of | :03:37. | :03:40.
the workforce, while the UK rate has dropped to 7.1%. That's very close | :03:41. | :03:45.
to the point at which the Bank of England has said it will consider | :03:46. | :03:50.
raising interest rates. Now it's clear the economy's creating jobs at | :03:51. | :03:53.
a faster rate than most experts had predicted. But this is long road to | :03:54. | :03:59.
recovery, so most think the Bank is in no rush to lift those interest | :04:00. | :04:04.
rates. Jackie. MSPs have approved controversial | :04:05. | :04:07.
plans to let the Westminster parliament make forced marriage a | :04:08. | :04:09.
specific criminal offence, with jail terms of up to seven years. Scottish | :04:10. | :04:15.
Women's Aid wanted Holyrood to draw up its own legislation. It fears | :04:16. | :04:19.
criminalising forced marriage could discourage victims from coming | :04:20. | :04:22.
forward. Our political correspondent Glenn Campbell reports. | :04:23. | :04:34.
The wedding of a willing couple may be the happiest day of their lives | :04:35. | :04:37.
but some young women and men are flown abroad to marry against their | :04:38. | :04:44.
will. In some cases, they are tricked into travelling by the | :04:45. | :04:51.
promise of a holiday. Both the UK and Scottish governments have been | :04:52. | :04:54.
taking an increasingly tough line against forced marriage. For the | :04:55. | :05:01.
last two years Scottish courts have been able to issue orders protecting | :05:02. | :05:04.
people from forced marriage and breach of an order is a criminal | :05:05. | :05:11.
offence. Now the Scottish government wants to adopt UK wide plans to make | :05:12. | :05:15.
forced marriage a specific criminal offence with deal terms of up to | :05:16. | :05:21.
seven years. Campaigners who work with those at risk of forced | :05:22. | :05:23.
marriage thing that could do more harm than good. People are scared to | :05:24. | :05:31.
criminalise colleagues and relatives and we think it will make people | :05:32. | :05:35.
more reluctant to come forward and report instances. At Holyrood, the | :05:36. | :05:41.
government said a criminal offence could be a successful deterrent and | :05:42. | :05:46.
Scotland must keep step with the rest of the UK on this issue. A gap | :05:47. | :05:52.
could open up between protections in Scotland and the rest of the UK. | :05:53. | :05:57.
This period could extend up to 18 months or more and we think it is | :05:58. | :06:03.
unacceptable for this. We would attract criticism for allowing that | :06:04. | :06:09.
to happen. She asked Hollywood to let Westminster change the law for | :06:10. | :06:18.
all of the UK. MSPs overwhelmingly backed making forced marriage a | :06:19. | :06:20.
specific crime. You're watching Reporting Scotland | :06:21. | :06:23.
from the BBC. Still to come on the programme. | :06:24. | :06:25.
It's the final day of campaigning in the Cowdenbeath byelection ahead of | :06:26. | :06:28.
tomorrow's vote. In sport: It's all over for Andy | :06:29. | :06:32.
Murray at the Australian Open. We'll hear from the man himself. | :06:33. | :06:40.
And Huntly's Olympic hopefuls. Four of the 18 Scots in the GB Winter | :06:41. | :06:44.
Olympics team hail from the same town. | :06:45. | :06:48.
14-year old Ben Robinson died after being injured during a school rugby | :06:49. | :06:53.
match. His tragic story is being used to highlight a new awareness | :06:54. | :06:56.
campaign highlighting the dangers of concussion in sport. It includes | :06:57. | :07:00.
guidance being sent to all schools and sporting organisations. Cameron | :07:01. | :07:09.
Buttle reports. It is so hard for Peter Robinson to | :07:10. | :07:14.
watch a game of rugby. He finds himself looking for the face of his | :07:15. | :07:18.
son who died at the age of 14 after being concussed twice within 45 | :07:19. | :07:25.
minutes. Since then he has been campaigning to raise awareness of | :07:26. | :07:29.
the dangers of conversion. He was on the ground for a minute and a half | :07:30. | :07:35.
and had to be helped to his feet. I think that is when the problems | :07:36. | :07:40.
started happening. He got noticed that all after and was involved in a | :07:41. | :07:47.
heavy tackle and again was tested. We talk about recognise and remove | :07:48. | :07:53.
and the first heavy impact, that should have been recognised and he | :07:54. | :07:58.
should have been removed. This will be released to all primary and | :07:59. | :08:00.
secondary schools across Scotland and on the front it says concussion | :08:01. | :08:07.
can be fatal. It details some of the symptoms and tries to clear up some | :08:08. | :08:12.
of the confusion. Concussion does not mean you cannot | :08:13. | :08:17.
play again. This 13-year-old was in hospital with concussion a few weeks | :08:18. | :08:21.
ago and was taken off the pitch immediately but has been given the | :08:22. | :08:26.
all clear. I do not remember how it happened and I apparently could not | :08:27. | :08:30.
open my eyes. I could not talk properly. Experts stress you do not | :08:31. | :08:36.
have to be knocked out to be in danger. Concussion is a complicated | :08:37. | :08:42.
injury. The symptoms can be anything where the brain function is | :08:43. | :08:47.
impaired. It can be as common as headache and dizziness or vomiting, | :08:48. | :08:55.
a whole range of symptoms. The important thing is to be able to say | :08:56. | :08:59.
the kid has had a bang on the head and I am worried, take them off. He | :09:00. | :09:05.
stresses he does not want people to stop playing sport or getting stuck | :09:06. | :09:10.
in, he just wants the awareness of concussion to be second nature in | :09:11. | :09:12.
any sport. The BBC has uncovered serious | :09:13. | :09:15.
concerns within the federation that runs the Commonwealth Games about a | :09:16. | :09:18.
lack of interest from its member countries about hosting future | :09:19. | :09:23.
games. The 20th Games will take place in Glasgow in July, with | :09:24. | :09:27.
Australia's Gold Coast due to be the hosts in 2018 but what happens after | :09:28. | :09:33.
that remains unclear. Members of the 70 nations and territories have | :09:34. | :09:35.
until March to register their interest. | :09:36. | :09:39.
A man has appeared in court charged with making racist remarks on | :09:40. | :09:42.
Facebook about three-year-old Mikaeel Kular whose body was found | :09:43. | :09:45.
in Fife last week. Jamie Milligan, who's 24 and from Paisley, is | :09:46. | :09:48.
alleged to have posted the comments on the social networking site last | :09:49. | :09:53.
week. He is also charged with posting another comment in which he | :09:54. | :09:56.
threatened to rape a woman, causing her fear and alarm. Mr Milligan made | :09:57. | :10:00.
no plea or declaration at Paisley Sheriff Court and was released on | :10:01. | :10:04.
bail. Mikaeel's 33-year-old mother, Rosdeep, appeared in court on | :10:05. | :10:10.
Monday, charged with his murder. MSPs have overwhelmingly endorsed | :10:11. | :10:12.
Scottish spending plans for next year set out by the Finance | :10:13. | :10:18.
Secretary John Swinney. They backed his Budget bill, which includes new | :10:19. | :10:22.
money for improved childcare, by 90 votes to 13 with two abstentions. | :10:23. | :10:26.
But Mr Swinney's opponents remain deeply unhappy with aspects of the | :10:27. | :10:29.
package and will press for further concessions as the Bill works its | :10:30. | :10:33.
way through Parliamentary scrutiny. I'm joined now from Edinburgh by our | :10:34. | :10:40.
Political Editor Brian Taylor. Reminders of the core contents. It | :10:41. | :10:50.
covers everything that is governed by the Scottish government's | :10:51. | :10:53.
proposals but in terms of quarter efforts to drive growth, there is | :10:54. | :10:56.
money for capital investment and money to cap business rates and | :10:57. | :11:02.
rewards families that are perhaps struggling at this moment. The big | :11:03. | :11:10.
highlight as he got new money as a consequence of expenditure. Free | :11:11. | :11:19.
school meals for infants in primary one to three, and that would usually | :11:20. | :11:27.
have come later down the process but he has chosen to do it up front and | :11:28. | :11:33.
on the face of the Dell. This was therefore are particularly difficult | :11:34. | :11:38.
one for Labour? It was. It was intended deliberately as a trap when | :11:39. | :11:42.
a previous motion was debated, Labour ended up for reasons they see | :11:43. | :11:48.
are entirely defensible, voting against the idea of childcare and | :11:49. | :11:54.
free school meals. In this case they saw the trap coming. The Tories | :11:55. | :12:01.
voted against it saying it did not do enough for business. The Liberal | :12:02. | :12:08.
Democrats say they are in favour of childcare but on this issue for | :12:09. | :12:12.
Labour, Labour said the bill does not do enough on poverty and they | :12:13. | :12:17.
believe in particular it does not do anything to mitigate the impact of | :12:18. | :12:22.
the bedroom tax. John Swinney has offered 20 million but they want | :12:23. | :12:26.
more. He is adamant he is at the legal limit. Not much time to sort | :12:27. | :12:32.
this out but still a lot of disquiet among the opposition. | :12:33. | :12:35.
Let's round up other stories making the news across the country. | :12:36. | :12:39.
A metallic chip was detected in part of a helicopter gearbox 15 minutes | :12:40. | :12:42.
before it crashed with the loss of 16 lives. A fatal accident inquiry | :12:43. | :12:48.
heard from an expert from the Super Puma manufacturer Eurocopter who | :12:49. | :12:51.
said the system which detects mechanical faults onboard the | :12:52. | :12:53.
helicopter also showed chips were found on two occasions in the days | :12:54. | :13:02.
before the crash in April 2009. Tonight's BBC Crimewatch programme | :13:03. | :13:05.
will feature an appeal to find an armed man who tied up, robbed and | :13:06. | :13:08.
sexually assaulted a woman in her home. The attack happened at farm | :13:09. | :13:15.
near Shotts on September fifth. A reconstruction will be broadcast at | :13:16. | :13:19.
nine o'clock on BBC One. A woman who was seriously injured | :13:20. | :13:22.
when she was gored by a stag last month is now able to walk short | :13:23. | :13:26.
distances, and speak to friends and family. Kate Stone has been moved | :13:27. | :13:30.
from the high dependency unit to a regular ward at Glasgow's Southern | :13:31. | :13:32.
General Hospital. The 44-year-old was injured by the animal near Fort | :13:33. | :13:37.
William. Scotland's smallest secondary school | :13:38. | :13:40.
is to shut in the summer. The three island pupils will transfer from | :13:41. | :13:46.
Skerries to the Shetland mainland. The Scottish Government has decided | :13:47. | :13:49.
not to challenge the decision made in December by Shetland Islands | :13:50. | :13:53.
Council. A vote is to be held on the isle of | :13:54. | :13:57.
Lewis next month to decide whether there should be a community buyout | :13:58. | :14:00.
of the Carloway estate. Supporters of the plans say a buyout could help | :14:01. | :14:04.
revitalise the economy of the area, which includes land surrounding the | :14:05. | :14:11.
famous Callanish Standing Stones. Over a thousand people have signed a | :14:12. | :14:14.
petition protesting about a change in the name of the new look military | :14:15. | :14:18.
museum at Fort George. Veterans of the Queen's Own Highlanders say it | :14:19. | :14:21.
is unacceptable that it is now simply called the Highlanders | :14:22. | :14:26.
museum. Bosses there say they chose the name to reflect the proud | :14:27. | :14:29.
military history of all the Highland regiments, whose names changed many | :14:30. | :14:34.
times over the years. And there are more stories from your | :14:35. | :14:38.
area and all the latest news, on BBC Scotland's website. | :14:39. | :14:45.
Voting takes place tomorrow in the Cowdenbeath by-election. It follows | :14:46. | :14:50.
the death of Labour MSP Helen Eadie. Today marked the final day of | :14:51. | :14:53.
campaigning for the seven candidates vying for the seat. Steven Godden | :14:54. | :15:01.
reports. On home turf, some final campaigning | :15:02. | :15:08.
from the Labour candidate. He says employment is a key issue, a message | :15:09. | :15:16.
that the current leader hopes will create a vacancy at council HQ. | :15:17. | :15:21.
People are concerned, particularly about youth employment. That | :15:22. | :15:25.
continually comes up on the doorsteps so I hope people will come | :15:26. | :15:29.
out tomorrow and use their throat. I certainly will be a strong voice in | :15:30. | :15:31.
that Scottish Parliament. -- use their vote. | :15:32. | :15:38.
The cost of living was the SNP candidate's focus. She was joined by | :15:39. | :15:44.
the First Minister, to highlight the Scottish government's mission. We | :15:45. | :15:48.
propose to continue the council tax freeze, bring in free school meals | :15:49. | :15:53.
for children up to primary three. None of the other candidates have | :15:54. | :15:57.
committed to these policies which people of this constituency are | :15:58. | :16:09.
telling us are important. Candidates say that independence and | :16:10. | :16:11.
overhanging trees outweigh concerns about Westminster policy. There is | :16:12. | :16:18.
no single single bullet issue that will make a vendetta. It is hard | :16:19. | :16:23.
work and I have a track record of doing that and was a bit of luck, I | :16:24. | :16:28.
will be able to do it on a bigger scale. The Lib Dems point to their | :16:29. | :16:31.
achievements and insist there is no sign of the Reynard wrote reaching | :16:32. | :16:37.
the shores here. Nobody has brought that up to be. What they are | :16:38. | :16:41.
interested double interested in is the money in your pockets, jobs and | :16:42. | :16:45.
pensions and that is what they have been talking to us about. This may | :16:46. | :16:50.
not be little contest to get the juices flowing but the four main | :16:51. | :16:59.
parties go into it with some power. The vote is close at 10pm tomorrow | :17:00. | :17:00.
night. And there are seven candidates in | :17:01. | :17:03.
all standing in the Cowdenbeath by-election with UKIP, the Scottish | :17:04. | :17:06.
Democratic Alliance and the Victims Final Right party all fielding | :17:07. | :17:10.
representatives. You can find more details on the politics page of the | :17:11. | :17:15.
BBC Scotland news website. Sport now. And it just wasn't to be, | :17:16. | :17:21.
David. I am afraid not! | :17:22. | :17:24.
Andy Murray's out of the Australian open tennis, the Wimbledon champion | :17:25. | :17:27.
losing to Roger Federer by three sets to one. The Scot citing lack of | :17:28. | :17:30.
match practice after back surgery as one of the reasons for his exit at | :17:31. | :17:34.
the quarter final stage. From Melbourne, Kheredine Idessane | :17:35. | :17:46.
reports. # -- the Murray Fanclub in top form. | :17:47. | :17:51.
Speaker Michael Alesha Dixon home. Come on, Andy! | :17:52. | :17:57.
No laughing matter for the Swiss. Roger! They were optimistic also. We | :17:58. | :18:11.
will win for sure. Yet,. Go for it. That is exactly what Roger Federer | :18:12. | :18:14.
did. He stormed into a two set lead. He even served the match in the | :18:15. | :18:19.
third. That is when the muddy comeback kicked in. | :18:20. | :18:22.
He even served the match in the third. That is when the He levelled | :18:23. | :18:26.
at 5-5 and then in an astonishing tie-break, the Wimbledon champion | :18:27. | :18:32.
came from 6-4 down to save too much points and take that into a fourth | :18:33. | :18:38.
set. Relentless Roger's Renaissance finally broken Sicilians and as | :18:39. | :18:41.
Federer put the semifinal with Nadal, Murray was left to reflect on | :18:42. | :18:46.
his comeback. I do Nadal, Murray was left to reflect on | :18:47. | :18:49.
not know how many players have come back from surgery and won their | :18:50. | :18:54.
first Grand Slam and second tournament. It was unlikely to | :18:55. | :18:58.
happen. I need to use this as a stepping stone to getting better. | :18:59. | :19:04.
Defeat for Andy Murray but plenty to build on for the rest of the season. | :19:05. | :19:07.
Something to cheer us up now. The British team for the Winter Olympics | :19:08. | :19:11.
has been announced. 18 of it's 56 members are Scots, with four of them | :19:12. | :19:14.
from the same small Aberdeenshire ski club. John Barnes has the | :19:15. | :19:23.
details. There is the belief Andrew must | :19:24. | :19:25.
grade could be a surprise package at the Olympics. -- Andrew Musgrove. He | :19:26. | :19:36.
outclassed a world champion and two world-class winners last week. At a | :19:37. | :19:39.
testing course in Norway, he has been set up for the winter Olympics. | :19:40. | :19:44.
The cause there was pretty similar to the cause at the Olympics. It is | :19:45. | :19:50.
long, big hills. Pretty hard. That is what I have been training for and | :19:51. | :19:53.
it seems like training has been paying off well. He, along with his | :19:54. | :20:04.
sister and two others, make up a team representing Great Britain in | :20:05. | :20:07.
the cross-country events. They all learned their skills at this | :20:08. | :20:09.
Aberdeenshire club and all have their own targets. The main one for | :20:10. | :20:13.
me is going to be the Sprint, which will be in the first week of | :20:14. | :20:17.
competition. A-lister grey, if I can get through to the quarterfinals, | :20:18. | :20:20.
top 30, that would be a good day for me. -- realistically. Livingston | :20:21. | :20:28.
born speed skater Elise Christie will be looking to maintain the form | :20:29. | :20:33.
that won her European gold. Other Scots in the team are... | :20:34. | :20:43.
With one third of the Great Britain team made up of Scottish people, the | :20:44. | :20:49.
hopes we will see a few enjoying a podium finish. | :20:50. | :20:50.
That would brighten a winter's night. So might this. Some more | :20:51. | :20:57.
stories from Scottish sport. Scotland's Rugby coach Scott | :20:58. | :20:59.
Johnson's talking up his team's chances at this year's Six Nations | :21:00. | :21:04.
Championship. Here he is at the tournament launch in London. It is | :21:05. | :21:13.
part of our game to think that is brilliant. That puts us on any | :21:14. | :21:16.
level. Aberdeen's Paul Lawrie is three | :21:17. | :21:19.
shots behind leader George Coetzee of South Africa after the opening | :21:20. | :21:22.
round of the Qatar Masters. This eagle putt helping Lawrie to five | :21:23. | :21:26.
under par. St Johnstone striker Stevie May is | :21:27. | :21:29.
now the Premeirship's leading scorer, taking his league tally to | :21:30. | :21:32.
16 in the 1-0 win over Partick Thistle last night. It's his 20th in | :21:33. | :21:38.
all competitions this season. Edinburgh athlete Lynsey Sharp will | :21:39. | :21:41.
be presented with her European 800 metres gold medal on Saturday. The | :21:42. | :21:46.
silver she won in the summer of 2012 was upgraded to gold, after race | :21:47. | :21:49.
winner Yelena Arzhakova was banned for doping. | :21:50. | :21:53.
More on those stories, and all the latest news, 24 hours a day on BBC | :21:54. | :21:55.
Sport Scotland's website. That's all for now. | :21:56. | :22:09.
Thank you very much, David. Newsnight Scotland is over on BBC | :22:10. | :22:13.
Two Scotland tonight, where they will be looking at the unemployment | :22:14. | :22:16.
figures we told you about at the start of the programme. That is at | :22:17. | :22:18.
11pm. Let's get the latest weather | :22:19. | :22:23.
forecast from Christopher. Thank you very much. Good evening, | :22:24. | :22:29.
in showers continuing across central and western parts of the country but | :22:30. | :22:32.
they slowly ease. Certainly by dawn, it is once again wet. Here is how it | :22:33. | :22:38.
plays out. The showers will slowly fade and it will be dry overnight. | :22:39. | :22:42.
Some mist patches but by the end of the night, this band of fairly heavy | :22:43. | :22:48.
rain working its way. Across the Highlands and further south | :22:49. | :22:50.
possibly, Lanarkshire and the Borders we can once now. -- we could | :22:51. | :22:56.
see some snow. Tomorrow morning, because of that warning, we have Met | :22:57. | :23:02.
Office be aware warnings. A lot of spray on the roads solely difficult | :23:03. | :23:05.
commute. Maybe also some icy patches. By mid-morning, lunchtime | :23:06. | :23:10.
and afternoon, generally bright and sunny. Maybe one or two showers | :23:11. | :23:16.
continuing and 18 breeze. Despite the sunshine, it is actually cooler | :23:17. | :23:22.
than today. -- a strong breeze. Those in showers will be wintry over | :23:23. | :23:28.
the border hills. Further north, generally dry and bright but chilly. | :23:29. | :23:32.
There will be one or two paths in showers, especially across the | :23:33. | :23:36.
Northern Isles. The winds for Shetland, thankfully, lighter than | :23:37. | :23:40.
today. The rest of the afternoon and into the evening and overnight there | :23:41. | :23:43.
will still be showers. Dry, clear and cold, frosty and possibly some | :23:44. | :23:47.
ice and then more rain on the horizon. If we look West, we can see | :23:48. | :23:53.
the rain gathering force as we head overnight towards Friday morning. | :23:54. | :23:55.
The weather fronts are stacking up and it will be a wet start to | :23:56. | :23:59.
Friday. That is for central, western and southern parts. Dry in the | :24:00. | :24:02.
north-east but not for long. It will be a wet day but as we head into the | :24:03. | :24:07.
afternoon, the rain will fragment and it will not be as heavy. | :24:08. | :24:11.
Temperature wise, up a bit but not feeling that great. For the weekend, | :24:12. | :24:16.
central and eastern parts of the country are largely dry and bright | :24:17. | :24:19.
but in or showers in the West. Wintry on higher ground. The bubbly | :24:20. | :24:23.
better than Sunday, which will be wet and windy. | :24:24. | :24:26.
We are dreading it already. Thank you very much. Now, a reminder of | :24:27. | :24:29.
tonight's main news: Unemployment in Scotland has fallen | :24:30. | :24:32.
to its lowest rate for almost five years. According to official | :24:33. | :24:35.
figures, the number of people who were out of work and seeking a job | :24:36. | :24:38.
during the autumn was down by 25,000. | :24:39. | :24:47.
MSPs have approved controversial plans to let the Westminster | :24:48. | :24:50.
parliament make forced marriage a specific criminal offence, with jail | :24:51. | :24:53.
terms of up to seven years. Scottish Women's Aid wanted Holyrood to draw | :24:54. | :24:56.
up its own legislation. It fears criminalising forced marriage could | :24:57. | :24:58.
discourage victims from coming forward. | :24:59. | :25:06.
Two people have been shot dead in clashes between police and | :25:07. | :25:08.
demonstrators in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. They are the first | :25:09. | :25:12.
fatalities since the start of protests two months ago. It follows | :25:13. | :25:16.
the Ukranian president's decision to shun a deal with the European Union. | :25:17. | :25:25.
He favours closer ties to Russia. The former England footballer Stan | :25:26. | :25:28.
Collymore says he's dismayed with the social networking site Twitter, | :25:29. | :25:31.
accusing it of doing nothing about a stream of abusive messages he's | :25:32. | :25:35.
received. He says he's been subjected to racist abuse and death | :25:36. | :25:38.
threats after he suggested the Liverpool striker Luis Suarez dived | :25:39. | :25:45.
during a match at the weekend. And that's Reporting Scotland. I'll | :25:46. | :25:48.
be back with the headlines at eight and our late bulletin. Until then, | :25:49. | :25:51.
from all the team, good evening. | :25:52. | :25:58. |
