sunshine and showers continuing. And that is all from the BBC News at | :00:00. | 3:59:59
six. It Tonight. A leading doctor claims | :00:00. | :00:14.
hospital staff are under almost intolerable pressure because of NHS | :00:15. | :00:16.
cuts. Back in Scotland, to a heroes | :00:17. | :00:22.
welcome. The GB curlers return home with their Olympic medals. School | :00:23. | :00:26.
meals, the survey that says children want more say over what's being | :00:27. | :00:31.
served up. They're training for the | :00:32. | :00:34.
Commonwealth Games but they aren't the athletes, they are the police | :00:35. | :00:37.
assigned to protect the Queen's baton. | :00:38. | :00:48.
I'm gonna tell you why I'm coming here, to kick Ricky Burns ass. And | :00:49. | :00:55.
the trainer warns Ricky Burns is about to lose his WBO title. | :00:56. | :01:10.
Good evening. A senior Scottish doctor has warned that NHS staff are | :01:11. | :01:16.
being placed under almost intolerable pressure. The outgoing | :01:17. | :01:19.
President of the Royal College of Physicians is claiming that cuts in | :01:20. | :01:23.
the number of hospital beds increasing admissions and workforce | :01:24. | :01:26.
shortages are under mining the quality of care. | :01:27. | :01:31.
The latest Scottish Government figures show a big increase in the | :01:32. | :01:35.
number of patients waiting to leave hospital after treatment. But they | :01:36. | :01:39.
also show the waiting time target for treatment within 18 weeks of | :01:40. | :01:44.
referral is largely being met. And there's been a small increase in the | :01:45. | :01:47.
number of people working in the NHS in Scotland. | :01:48. | :01:50.
More from our Health Correspondent, Eleanor Bradford. | :01:51. | :01:56.
The NHS is facing increasing demand from a population that's getting | :01:57. | :02:02.
older. Today, the outgoing President of one of Scotland's medical | :02:03. | :02:06.
colleges said staff were now working under almost intolerable pressure. | :02:07. | :02:11.
And the NHS in Scotland risks falling behind England, the said. | :02:12. | :02:21.
The NHS is under pressure most of the months of the year. In England, | :02:22. | :02:29.
the scandal surrounding the unnecessary deaths in | :02:30. | :02:32.
Mid-Staffordshire led to the NHS adopting new standards of care | :02:33. | :02:34.
there. This doctor is calling for the same changes here. But some say | :02:35. | :02:40.
the NHS in Scotland is already performing better than England. | :02:41. | :02:47.
How can I help you... This medical Ward at St John's Hospital in | :02:48. | :02:51.
Livingston Sears 900 patients a month. Five years ago, it was | :02:52. | :02:54.
considering expanding in order to cope. But staff improved care and | :02:55. | :02:59.
cut the death rate by monitoring their performance more closely. | :03:00. | :03:03.
There's been a huge improvement because there are more discussions | :03:04. | :03:07.
with the whole nursing team. We do what's called a safety brief every | :03:08. | :03:11.
day so we talk about the quality indicators every day, how we can | :03:12. | :03:14.
improve our performance, what we can do better at and what we are doing | :03:15. | :03:19.
well at. You need a method to implement the standards... It's part | :03:20. | :03:23.
of a patient safety programme which Scotland's chief doctor says is | :03:24. | :03:26.
already leading the way. If you look at what NHS England have | :03:27. | :03:31.
just decided to do, they have decided to run similar | :03:32. | :03:35.
collaboratives to the Scottish patient safety programme across NHS | :03:36. | :03:38.
England because they have decided safety is a challenge that they are | :03:39. | :03:41.
not meeting. I don't think we have solved it or | :03:42. | :03:44.
fixed it, but the Scottish safety patient programme, which you have | :03:45. | :03:48.
seen in this ward, is an example to other countries about how that | :03:49. | :03:50.
transformation might work. There is no doubt this system needs | :03:51. | :03:57.
to work to cope -- cope to work with uncreasing demand. It's arguably | :03:58. | :04:03.
already in a better place than other NHS Trusts in the UK. | :04:04. | :04:06.
They have already been to Downing Street to be congratulated on their | :04:07. | :04:13.
achievement. Now Britain's mens and women's curling teams have flown | :04:14. | :04:18.
into Edinburgh Airport to enenthusiastic welcome. Cameron | :04:19. | :04:23.
Buttle is there. As you can see, they are setting up | :04:24. | :04:27.
for what's hopefully the last press call of the day for these guys. Team | :04:28. | :04:34.
GB went after three medals, they got four tworks from the Scots curlers. | :04:35. | :04:38.
They arrived them to a very warm welcome. The women's team, with | :04:39. | :04:51.
their bronze medals,s the men also. So far, there hasn't been much | :04:52. | :04:54.
chance for these guys to relax and it seems like the party is just | :04:55. | :04:58.
getting started. Here thisser in all their glory... | :04:59. | :05:03.
The games may be over but a busy day in the media spotlight begins. Easy | :05:04. | :05:07.
to handle when you are Olympic silver medallists. We look at | :05:08. | :05:11.
performances over the two weeks and it was incredible, the hard work we | :05:12. | :05:14.
put in to get there. Not everyone can win the golds. We'll have that | :05:15. | :05:19.
silver medal now and are really pleased. Huge expectations of both | :05:20. | :05:26.
teams. European and world titles already were secured. For men, a | :05:27. | :05:30.
shot of gold ended in resounding defeat to a silver. | :05:31. | :05:37.
For the women, crushed at not making their final, but a gritty fightback | :05:38. | :05:42.
won them bronze. Britain have won the bronze. | :05:43. | :05:46.
Regardless of the colour of the medal, the national recognition for | :05:47. | :05:50.
their success and the huge lift of the profile of their sport is a huge | :05:51. | :05:56.
boost. Congratulations, well done. | :05:57. | :06:00.
Thousands more are signing up to try curling across Scotland. As for the | :06:01. | :06:04.
medal winners, they know this is their time to shine and they hope to | :06:05. | :06:09.
make the most of it. Delighted to say I'm joined by the | :06:10. | :06:14.
two team skips, eve Muirhead, is it God to be back? It's great to be | :06:15. | :06:18.
back in Scotland and what a welcome we got tonight in Edinburgh, the | :06:19. | :06:22.
great to see so many people come out to see us home after a great cupful | :06:23. | :06:27.
of weeks out in Sochi. Massive disappointment when you didn't make | :06:28. | :06:31.
the final, but you came back with a bronze, has that settled in now and | :06:32. | :06:34.
have the bad feelings gone? Yes, it was a roller coaster week. You lose | :06:35. | :06:42.
that chance to get to the final and chase your dream and get the gold | :06:43. | :06:46.
but I think it showed what greatest athletes we were managing to bounce | :06:47. | :06:50.
back, straight back on ice the next morning and win the bronze. It was a | :06:51. | :06:55.
great couple of weeks. David, a huge buzz about the sport. You are | :06:56. | :06:58.
talking about going curling crazy, thousands turning up for the sport. | :06:59. | :07:03.
It must be great to know you created that boost? Incredible. We hoped to | :07:04. | :07:08.
put on a great performance and it really captured the nation, everyone | :07:09. | :07:11.
got into curling and wanted to know what was going on and who the team | :07:12. | :07:16.
were. It was fantastic. Was that surprising to for you? A little bit. | :07:17. | :07:21.
We stay on the social media throughout the weeks and had a | :07:22. | :07:24.
feeling about the buzz back home. People are starting to get into it | :07:25. | :07:28.
and talk about it. It's special knowing that was happening. There | :07:29. | :07:32.
have been some questions about you're future. Any decisions made? | :07:33. | :07:38.
Not yet. I'm going on a break. Obviously I need to speak to the | :07:39. | :07:42.
guys and funding partners about going forward. It's a real young | :07:43. | :07:46.
team that's done so well and we want to have a good think about that and | :07:47. | :07:50.
the gold is an option in four years' time. Thank you very much and | :07:51. | :07:54.
congratulations once more. You get that feeling that the party is just | :07:55. | :07:57.
getting started here. Many thanks. | :07:58. | :08:01.
Police have launched an inquiry after a man claiming to be the | :08:02. | :08:05.
parent of a primary six child called a school in what appears to be an | :08:06. | :08:11.
attempt to abduct her. The man asked staff at St Mary's Primary to tell | :08:12. | :08:16.
the tend-year-old girl not to take the bus home as he'd collect her. | :08:17. | :08:20.
Our report Searle at the school tonight. This happened just before | :08:21. | :08:25.
home time last Thursday. A man phoned the school here. He was | :08:26. | :08:30.
pretending to be the dad of the girl who's in primary six. He told staff | :08:31. | :08:35.
to tell her not the take the bus home but that he would come and | :08:36. | :08:40.
collect her instead. Staff were immediately suspicious about this | :08:41. | :08:44.
call. They phoned the girl's real dad who was able to confirm that was | :08:45. | :08:48.
a bogus call. It's understood that the man got the girl's details | :08:49. | :08:53.
through a social net working site. The parents have been sent home this | :08:54. | :08:57.
letter by the school. In it, it warns of the dangers of children | :08:58. | :09:01.
leaving their personal details online and it asks mums and dads to | :09:02. | :09:07.
be particularly vigilant of apps such as talking Tom and talking | :09:08. | :09:11.
Angela where children might be asked to leave information about | :09:12. | :09:15.
themselves. In this letter, it says staff should | :09:16. | :09:23.
be aware of what happened but she asks parents to be reassured because | :09:24. | :09:29.
it says the school has robust procedures and wants to ensure the | :09:30. | :09:35.
safety and well-being of pupils. A spokesperson for Renfrewshire says | :09:36. | :09:38.
that the prompt action here prompted what could be a very serious child | :09:39. | :09:43.
protection incident. Police Scotland say they are continuing their | :09:44. | :09:45.
inquiries into what happened here and that they are working with the | :09:46. | :09:50.
school and the council to ensure the safety of the children. . You are | :09:51. | :09:56.
watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. Still to come. | :09:57. | :10:00.
They'll run a half marathon every day. We meet the special police unit | :10:01. | :10:05.
assigned to protect the Queen's Baton in Scotland. | :10:06. | :10:10.
In sport, we meet the American who is undefeat and wants to end the | :10:11. | :10:13.
glory days of Scottish world champion Ricky Burns. And, gearing | :10:14. | :10:17.
up for a Highland Derby revenge at the global energy stadium in | :10:18. | :10:21.
Dingwall with hopes there's no power failure tonight. | :10:22. | :10:25.
Britain's oil and gas industry has warned it faces its biggest | :10:26. | :10:32.
challenge in 50 years due to the low levels of exploration. | :10:33. | :10:36.
Costs of production have also been rising steeply though the industry's | :10:37. | :10:40.
annual survey of offshore activity has found investment remains very | :10:41. | :10:43.
high. Our business and economy editor | :10:44. | :10:47.
Douglas Fraser is here with more. Thank you. As one of Britain's | :10:48. | :10:50.
biggest industries, the positive news for oil and gas is that it's | :10:51. | :10:55.
maintaining high levels of investment this year. At ?13 | :10:56. | :10:59.
billion, that's down from last year's record. Recent sharp falls in | :11:00. | :11:04.
output slowed last year, down by 8%. And, due to that record investment, | :11:05. | :11:08.
new fields are coming on stream this year so that production line is | :11:09. | :11:11.
expected to rise again. But there are troubling signs too. | :11:12. | :11:17.
Only 15 exploration wells drilled last year, that is seen as falling | :11:18. | :11:20.
far short of what is necessary to sustain the industry. The reasons | :11:21. | :11:24.
for that is that there are not enough rigs, funding is tight and, | :11:25. | :11:29.
well it's been rather stormy. You remember that we have had | :11:30. | :11:32.
extremely bad weathered this year. We are operating offshore in some of | :11:33. | :11:38.
the most hostile waters in the globe, therefore there's been a lot | :11:39. | :11:41.
of waiting on weather which has impacted too. The industry report | :11:42. | :11:45.
says oil firms are facing rapidly rising production costs. The average | :11:46. | :11:50.
spend for extracting a barrel of oil was up by 27% in only a year. The | :11:51. | :11:55.
accelerating increase in costs is causing operators, such as Centrica, | :11:56. | :11:59.
to focus future investments on other countries. There's plenty of life | :12:00. | :12:04.
left in the old dog yet. There's just a case that in recent years, we | :12:05. | :12:10.
haven't been exploring and identifying the new assets and new | :12:11. | :12:15.
fields that we know are there or strongly suspect are there nearly | :12:16. | :12:18.
fast enough so that's really got to be ramped up. It doesn't help that | :12:19. | :12:23.
the costs of exploring are increasing rapidly. The oil and gas | :12:24. | :12:28.
industries are very important as an employer and as a big payer of tax | :12:29. | :12:32.
too. The bill is expected to fall this year from ?6.5 billion to ?5 | :12:33. | :12:38.
billion. That number may look big to you or the fall from last year, | :12:39. | :12:44.
maybe what -- may be what gets your attention because those figures are | :12:45. | :12:48.
important for the arguments for or against Scotland becoming | :12:49. | :12:51.
independent. Three teenagers have admitted | :12:52. | :12:55.
stealing alcohol, cash and charity tins from the Clutha bar in Glasgow | :12:56. | :12:59.
weeks satisfied ten people died there in a helicopter crash. Jordan | :13:00. | :13:05.
Parry, Darren Melrose and Charmaine Holmes pleaded guilty to breaking | :13:06. | :13:08.
into the pub in December. They were caught after being seen by a man who | :13:09. | :13:12.
was paying his respects to a friend who died there three weeks before. | :13:13. | :13:17.
At the court, sentence of the teenagers was deferred and they were | :13:18. | :13:22.
remanded in custody. Children want more say over school | :13:23. | :13:26.
dinners. A review out today suggests many of them want to be more | :13:27. | :13:29.
involved in decisions about what to put on the menu or how to run the | :13:30. | :13:32.
service. The Government's due to publish new | :13:33. | :13:36.
guidance shortly. Our education correspondent has been to a school | :13:37. | :13:37.
that took part in the study. At this primary School in Glasgow | :13:38. | :13:51.
lunchtime is a chance for youngsters to socialise together and learn | :13:52. | :13:58.
about healthy eating. It is really healthy. I like being healthy | :13:59. | :14:05.
because I just feel better. What could make having your lunch at | :14:06. | :14:13.
school even better? Not to have not sought anything in case you are | :14:14. | :14:19.
allergic. This school has even got the children to act as secret | :14:20. | :14:26.
shoppers. It is all about their experience with food. They wanted | :14:27. | :14:31.
more adults, more interaction with adults and a good expedience just | :14:32. | :14:35.
like you or I would want when going out for lunch. Concerns included | :14:36. | :14:41.
insufficient or unappealing choices and the time spent in queues. Other | :14:42. | :14:48.
ideas included making more use of local and seasonal produce. This | :14:49. | :14:54.
comes as the government prepares to publish more guidance on its school | :14:55. | :15:01.
dinners. We have school meals that are regulated because of nutritional | :15:02. | :15:05.
quality but it is not just about the quality of food, it is how we think | :15:06. | :15:10.
about schools, primary and secondary is very different so what do we need | :15:11. | :15:14.
to do to work with those children to make eating and the school meal | :15:15. | :15:22.
experience so much more fun? The review will also include the views | :15:23. | :15:31.
of educational experts. Now we look at some other stories happening | :15:32. | :15:36.
across Scotland this Tuesday. The danger of metal theft has been | :15:37. | :15:41.
discussed by emergency services and businesses across Scotland today. If | :15:42. | :15:46.
the year it causes millions of pounds worth of damage as well as | :15:47. | :15:52.
affecting public safety. The summit was to raise more awareness of the | :15:53. | :15:57.
time. The introduction of average speed cameras on the A9 will damage | :15:58. | :16:01.
the economy according to business leaders. The delivery will be | :16:02. | :16:07.
delayed until the autumn due to technical problems. Some | :16:08. | :16:15.
organisations say the cameras will harm competitiveness by increasing | :16:16. | :16:21.
journey times. A man who barricaded himself inside the house in Dumfries | :16:22. | :16:25.
has been taken into custody following a stand-off that lasted | :16:26. | :16:33.
for 14 hours. Negotiators coaxed the man out of the house and he | :16:34. | :16:37.
eventually gave himself up this morning. Plans to buy this village | :16:38. | :16:44.
and Lewis have gone to postal ballot, 250 people voted for the | :16:45. | :16:57.
buyout while 86 voted against. We will be looking at trying to get | :16:58. | :17:03.
development projects in place to benefit the local community. That is | :17:04. | :17:09.
what this is all about. It was called the ferry Toon and its main | :17:10. | :17:14.
industry was granite quarrying. These two claims to fame have been | :17:15. | :17:19.
incorporated into a new public artwork today at the entrance to key | :17:20. | :17:27.
town. The bell on top the calls home people once summoned the boat to | :17:28. | :17:34.
cross Wigtown Bay. Now, as the Queen's Batten heads to the | :17:35. | :17:41.
Falklands head of the Commonwealth this summer, police office are | :17:42. | :17:45.
preparing for its return home in June. Police Scotland is setting up | :17:46. | :17:53.
a special Baton security force, to accompany the Baton as it spends 40 | :17:54. | :17:56.
days travelling around the country. Our Commonwealth Games reporter Lisa | :17:57. | :17:59.
Summers has been to the police training college in Tulliallen to | :18:00. | :18:02.
find out more. The police Batten team get a flavour of what will | :18:03. | :18:06.
happen this summer in Scotland. It has been good getting out, obviously | :18:07. | :18:10.
there will be a lot of meeting of people and meeting other as well. If | :18:11. | :18:18.
there is an attack on the Batten what I want you to be thinking about | :18:19. | :18:22.
is to you feel alert and thinking about the potential issues that may | :18:23. | :18:30.
be created when you get out there. The initial test was to whittle down | :18:31. | :18:40.
100 applicants to 80 recruits -- 40 recruits. Our role is to make sure | :18:41. | :18:46.
it gets safely around the country saw that as many members of the | :18:47. | :18:51.
public can enjoy the expedience. The officers will run the equivalent of | :18:52. | :18:57.
half marathon per day but the biggest challenge will be running at | :18:58. | :19:04.
this pace. They will be looking to make the most of their 200 metres in | :19:05. | :19:12.
the limelight. It is quite unnatural for myself as a runner to go at a | :19:13. | :19:17.
slower speed. I think the more we practised the more we will get used | :19:18. | :19:22.
to it. Trying to keep the pace quite slow will come into a problem when | :19:23. | :19:32.
you have to react to something. These officers will have to prepare | :19:33. | :19:36.
for all eventualities, running in all weathers. Leasing the Batten | :19:37. | :19:42.
will be the first test of becoming a single force. Now let's get the | :19:43. | :19:48.
latest sport. Very slow running sounds like the ideal job for me! | :19:49. | :19:53.
Ricky Burns' challenger is tonight apologising to the World Champion's | :19:54. | :19:56.
fans, that's because he says he's here to take away Burns WBO | :19:57. | :19:59.
lightweight title. Terence Crawford met the media for the first time | :20:00. | :20:02.
today ahead of this weekend's fight in Glasgow. And the man from | :20:03. | :20:06.
Nebraska and his entourage left quite an impression. Here's Phil | :20:07. | :20:17.
Goodlad. Meet Terence Crawford, American, undefeated and very | :20:18. | :20:23.
confident. I came here because Ricky has got something that I want. I'm | :20:24. | :20:29.
going to take it. Here's not the only one who believes in his | :20:30. | :20:36.
ability. I am 100% confident in what Terence is about to do. He is about | :20:37. | :20:43.
to create the world champion out of Nebraska. Such confidence comes from | :20:44. | :20:52.
Crawford's record, years undefeated and has not got 16 of his 22 | :20:53. | :20:59.
opponents. I have the desire, the determination, the veil, I have got | :21:00. | :21:06.
whatever it takes. If that was not enough it seems like the Crawford | :21:07. | :21:11.
camp does not really rate Ricky Burns. He has never fought anybody. | :21:12. | :21:18.
I am going to keep saying the same thing about Ricky Burns, he is like | :21:19. | :21:29.
a third-place golden Globe winner. I wonder what Ricky Burns mix of all | :21:30. | :21:33.
this? Fight night cannot come fast enough. Inverness Caledonian Thistle | :21:34. | :21:36.
manager John Hughes says they will be looking for "revenge" over local | :21:37. | :21:39.
rivals Ross County in the Highland derby tonight. County currently hold | :21:40. | :21:42.
the bragging rights after winning the New Year's Day fixture. | :21:43. | :21:46.
Tonight's game is a replay of a match in the autumn that had to be | :21:47. | :21:50.
abandoned due to floodlight failure. Andrew Thomson reports. These | :21:51. | :21:59.
highland derbies have become known as elk ethical in reference to the | :22:00. | :22:09.
Keswick bridge behind me here. These Inverness Caley Thistle and Ross | :22:10. | :22:13.
County fines -- ties have added the lot of spice to football heeding the | :22:14. | :22:21.
Highlands. From my point of view we want to continue our success this | :22:22. | :22:25.
season in the derby match, that is by winning at home, we are obviously | :22:26. | :22:33.
in confident mood. County won the last match. They have strengthened | :22:34. | :22:41.
their squad since then. The other team also have more in their | :22:42. | :22:46.
armoury. We have a full strength squad with no injuries, the manager | :22:47. | :22:51.
has his grip on the team and we know how we are going to play. The fans | :22:52. | :22:57.
will be hoping there is no repeat of what happened back in the autumn | :22:58. | :23:00.
when a clash between the sides had to be abandoned due to floodlight | :23:01. | :23:07.
failure. It would be nice to get some revenge, I have been involved | :23:08. | :23:12.
in derby matches where there is a real undercurrent of unpleasantries | :23:13. | :23:16.
behind the scenes, this is different. It is fantastic for | :23:17. | :23:21.
Highland football that the two teams are playing in the SPL, competing | :23:22. | :23:25.
against each other, I look forward to it. We can look forward to more | :23:26. | :23:35.
of tonight's footballing action and the rest of Scottish sport. It was | :23:36. | :23:40.
an uncommon defeat for Celtic in the Scottish cup just over two weeks | :23:41. | :23:44.
ago, tonight they face Aberdeen again, this night on league | :23:45. | :23:49.
business. Does Neil Lennon have revenge on his mind? Revenge is too | :23:50. | :23:56.
strong a word, it is just focusing on what we want to do at home. There | :23:57. | :24:03.
is a big crowd here tonight and they will be willing the team on. | :24:04. | :24:10.
Aberdeen are well capable of beating Celtic at Parkhead and Celtic a | :24:11. | :24:19.
result tonight at Pittodrie. -- getting a result. There is coverage | :24:20. | :24:28.
of that match tonight on radio Scotland, it is already on year. | :24:29. | :24:35.
Bradley Wiggins says he intends to ride at the Commonwealth Games in | :24:36. | :24:40.
Glasgow later this year. He has the Commonwealth silvers and says he | :24:41. | :24:43.
would like to add a gold to his tally. Steve Cram won two gold | :24:44. | :24:49.
medals the last time the Commonwealth Games were in Scotland, | :24:50. | :24:58.
he believes Usain Bolt will be here for Glasgow 2014. He is beginning to | :24:59. | :25:03.
think about what have I achieved in my career? He has not won a | :25:04. | :25:07.
Commonwealth gold medal and engine maker that is big currency. There | :25:08. | :25:14.
are more sports stories 24 hours a day on our website. That is it for | :25:15. | :25:20.
tonight. Now let's get the latest weather. Good evening. Today brought | :25:21. | :25:28.
a mixture of sunshine and showers and that is the theme that continues | :25:29. | :25:34.
over the next couple of days. This evening and overnight will continue | :25:35. | :25:38.
to see these showers become confined to the north-west and the Western | :25:39. | :25:42.
Isles. Elsewhere will become largely dry with clear spells around leading | :25:43. | :25:47.
to a touch of Frost for the sheltered north-east, the risk of | :25:48. | :25:54.
ice on untreated roads and surfaces. Temperatures holding up elsewhere | :25:55. | :25:57.
around five Celsius and the wind will continue to ease for most of us | :25:58. | :26:02.
tonight with the exception of the Western and Northern Isles. There | :26:03. | :26:06.
they will be strong at times. We start tomorrow on a dry and bright | :26:07. | :26:13.
note or much of the East. More showers. Read through the country | :26:14. | :26:18.
during the course of the morning, perhaps falling as snow over high | :26:19. | :26:24.
ground for a time in the morning. We will continue to see a few showers | :26:25. | :26:30.
across the Northern Isles during the afternoon. For much of the | :26:31. | :26:33.
north-east corner there will be fewer showers and more in the way of | :26:34. | :26:38.
sunshine tomorrow. In the sunshine temperatures will peak around 10 | :26:39. | :26:45.
Celsius. For the Western Isles and into the north-west Highlands, | :26:46. | :26:50.
Lochaber Argyll and central and southern Scotland a mixture of | :26:51. | :26:54.
sunshine and showers will continue. Highs generally hear of around eight | :26:55. | :27:03.
Celsius. Tomorrow evening we will see some showers for a time and into | :27:04. | :27:08.
tomorrow night we will see an area of rain moving into the West. That | :27:09. | :27:13.
will cross the country during Wednesday night with strong | :27:14. | :27:16.
southerly winds for coastal areas and over high ground. Into Thursday | :27:17. | :27:21.
we will see this weather front moving away with some rain lingering | :27:22. | :27:26.
for a time in Shetland. Sunshine and showers elsewhere. Now a reminder of | :27:27. | :27:34.
tonight's main news. A senior Scottish doctor has warned NHS staff | :27:35. | :27:39.
have been placed under almost intolerable pleasure -- pressure. | :27:40. | :27:47.
Workforce shortages are undermining the quality of care. A judge has | :27:48. | :27:54.
ruled that a suspected IRA terrorists charged with murdering | :27:55. | :27:58.
soldiers in 1982 will not now stand trial because of the mistake made by | :27:59. | :28:04.
Northern Irish police. That is Reporting Scotland, we are back with | :28:05. | :28:08.
the headlines that eight. Until then, good evening. -- the headlines | :28:09. | :28:16.
