Good afternoon. A forensic team has been continuing

to search a flat in Kilmarnock as part of the investigation into a

missing Fife teenager. Searches of the inside the flat and garden of a

maisonette in Northcraig Road began yesterday. Last night, a number of

items were taken away. 19-year-old Hazel North, from Cairneyhill in

Dunfermline was last seen by her sister on the fourth of this month.

Hazel told her she was going to Kilmarnock to meet a male friend.

Police are appealing for anyone who has seen Hazel to get in touch with

them. The reorganisation of the police in

Scotland into a single national force has already saved more than

?70 million according to a report to be published next week. The number

of civilian staff employed has fallen by a thousand, and a further

600 have had their applications for voluntary redundancy approved.

Yesterday the trade union Unison announced a strike ballot in protest

at plans to reduce the number of control rooms, cutting 300 staff.

The Scottish Labour Leader Johann Lamont will use her speech at the

party's conference in Perth to accuse the SNP of betraying the

Scottish people. She'll also compare the nationalists to the Conservative

Party. But the SNP accused Scottish Labour of planning cuts. Our

Political Correspondent Lucy Adams reports from the conference.
