chilly old week, George. Rais thank you. That's all from the BBC news

:00:00.:00:00.

Tonight, on Reporting Scotland: Police say they believe human

:00:00.:00:08.

remains found in a park in Kilmarnock are those of the missing

:00:09.:00:13.

teenager Hazel North. Businesses criticise of a lack of

:00:14.:00:16.

information on transport plans for the Commonwealth Games.

:00:17.:00:20.

How connecting cows to the internet is helping farmers monitor their

:00:21.:00:25.

livestock's health. It was one of the First World War's

:00:26.:00:29.

most lethal weapons. We hear about the devastating effect the machine

:00:30.:00:33.

gun had on a group of volunteers from Skye.

:00:34.:00:38.

And as Celtic close in on the title, we look at the teams battling to

:00:39.:00:41.

stay in Scottish football's top flight.

:00:42.:00:55.

Good evening. Detectives searching for a missing

:00:56.:01:00.

Fife woman have found a body in a park in Ayrshire. 19-year-old Hazel

:01:01.:01:04.

North from Dumfermline was last seen by her family nearly three weeks

:01:05.:01:08.

ago, when she said she was going to Kilmarnock to visit a friend. Last

:01:09.:01:13.

Friday, police began searching a house in the town. This afternoon,

:01:14.:01:17.

they said they believed that human remains found in a nearby park are

:01:18.:01:21.

hers. Catriona Renton is in Kilmarnock for us tonight.

:01:22.:01:32.

Specialist searches and excavation have been taking place over there

:01:33.:01:39.

today. This afternoon, the news that everyone had been dreading. Police

:01:40.:01:43.

say they have found a body, the body of a young woman and they believe it

:01:44.:01:47.

is Hazel. It has been an agonising few days for her family as they

:01:48.:01:57.

waited for news. 19-year-old Hazel North contacted her sister almost

:01:58.:02:01.

three weeks ago on the 4th of March. She told her she was going to see

:02:02.:02:05.

her boyfriend in Kilmarnock. Her family hasn't heard from her since.

:02:06.:02:09.

On Friday, this flat and its garden were searched. On Friday night,

:02:10.:02:16.

forensic officers carried out bags of potential evidence. On Saturday,

:02:17.:02:21.

specialist dogs and officers returned to search the property

:02:22.:02:24.

again. But police concluded that they had not found anything of

:02:25.:02:29.

concern. However, this lunchtime, detectives were back at the flat.

:02:30.:02:37.

Number 71 is just to streets away from a country park. A distance of

:02:38.:02:44.

about 100 yards. Tents were put up here yesterday evening and a

:02:45.:02:47.

specialist search took place here this morning. Then at around half

:02:48.:02:53.

past two, police said that human remains had been found. I can

:02:54.:02:58.

confirm that as an ongoing part of the missing persons inquiry, that

:02:59.:03:05.

officers have carried out a search and excavation of an area within the

:03:06.:03:09.

park in Kilmarnock and the body of a young woman has been found. We

:03:10.:03:14.

believe this to be Hazel North. Hazel's family has been advised of

:03:15.:03:17.

this and officers are supporting them. A full forensic examination of

:03:18.:03:25.

the site remains ongoing and a postmortem examination is being

:03:26.:03:32.

established. Have the police had anything to say about how she died?

:03:33.:03:38.

Will run to know how Hazel died until after the postmortem. It is

:03:39.:03:43.

expected to take place at the Southern General Hospital tomorrow.

:03:44.:03:48.

Police have spoken to a number of people in connection with Hazel's

:03:49.:03:52.

disappearance. One of them is the 25 old man that Hazel is be -- believed

:03:53.:03:57.

to have been staying with. He has been named as John Davies and has

:03:58.:04:03.

been questioned as a suspect. I must correct that, he is being questioned

:04:04.:04:08.

as a witness. No arrests have been made and we wait the outcome. --

:04:09.:04:13.

await the outcome. The battle over Scotland's economy

:04:14.:04:17.

in the event of a Yes vote in the independence referendum heated up

:04:18.:04:20.

again today. A new analysis of the public finances has warned of

:04:21.:04:22.

continuing big deficits in Scotland, as revenues from oil fall. The

:04:23.:04:25.

Scottish Government's been challenged to update its own figures

:04:26.:04:28.

on oil tax. Our business and economy editor Douglas Fraser is here and

:04:29.:04:34.

can tell us more. Remember the budget only last week?

:04:35.:04:38.

Well, today, the Centre for Public Policy for Regions, or CPPR, a

:04:39.:04:40.

think-tank based at Glasgow University gave its own analysis of

:04:41.:04:43.

what an independent Scotland's budget might look like for the next

:04:44.:04:47.

five years. The key issue is what happens to oil revenues. As

:04:48.:04:50.

production falls, costs rise and so the profits on which tax is charged

:04:51.:04:56.

appears to be in decline. According to the CPPR, it means that last year

:04:57.:04:59.

the Scottish Government's deficit would have stood at ?12 billion. If

:05:00.:05:04.

spending cuts go ahead, using Whitehall forecasts for oil tax,

:05:05.:05:07.

that deficit would be ?13 billion this year and next and then it would

:05:08.:05:14.

decline. By 2018, the CPPR say the Scottish deficit would be ?5

:05:15.:05:19.

billion. More manageable, but the UK deficit has been forecast to fall

:05:20.:05:28.

much faster. It would reach a surplus by then. The Scottish

:05:29.:05:31.

Government has its own figures for oil revenue, published last year,

:05:32.:05:34.

but they've been found to be over optimistic, so when these Glasgow

:05:35.:05:37.

economists call for the Scottish Government to update its own

:05:38.:05:39.

forecasts, they're being backed by the Better Together

:05:40.:05:45.

what we have asked for is the past is to update the oil figures. Let's

:05:46.:05:52.

have some is we can trust, sums that aren't out of date. The people of

:05:53.:05:56.

Scotland deserve nothing less than to have the facts. Clearly, oil

:05:57.:06:04.

companies would not be investing millions in less they were going to

:06:05.:06:08.

get increased production in three or four years time. Our forecast which

:06:09.:06:12.

assume that production will rise as a result of investment which realise

:06:13.:06:16.

that tax revenues are going down so that they can increase tomorrow are

:06:17.:06:22.

much more robust. That's dependent on oil is one of the concerns raised

:06:23.:06:26.

by Blackrock, the world's biggest investment fund. It expects

:06:27.:06:29.

Scotland's borrowing costs to rise, at least initially. Another asset

:06:30.:06:31.

manager today, Jupiter, sees opportunities in Scotland, whatever

:06:32.:06:36.

the result. It reckons Scotland will remain a big centre for managing

:06:37.:06:40.

money. There's also been new ammunition this weekend to help the

:06:41.:06:43.

Scottish Government's case for joint control of the pound. A learned

:06:44.:06:46.

economics professor, Leslie Young, who's based in Beijing, has torn

:06:47.:06:49.

into the UK Government's case for opposing such an alliance. Even from

:06:50.:06:54.

China, the battle over Scotland's economic future goes on.

:06:55.:07:03.

There's more on the independence debate in a special edition of

:07:04.:07:05.

Newsnight Scotland later. Here's Isobel Fraser to tell us more.

:07:06.:07:11.

Join Gary, Laura and me for a special in which we will be

:07:12.:07:15.

questioning political veterans Jim Sellers, George Galloway about their

:07:16.:07:20.

views on independence. That is at 10:30pm.

:07:21.:07:26.

Are you up to the challenge of appearing at the Watch with Baby

:07:27.:07:29.

show at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival?

:07:30.:07:35.

In sport tonight, there's a sacking, a signing and savouring success.

:07:36.:07:38.

But in the Scottish Premiership it's all about avoiding second. That's

:07:39.:07:41.

second bottom and the dreaded relegation playoff. Full details

:07:42.:07:42.

coming soon. Organisers of the Commonwealth Games

:07:43.:07:54.

are facing criticism over the lack of information about transport

:07:55.:07:59.

planning for the event. Transport and haulage companies say there

:08:00.:08:01.

could be major consequences if detail on likely disruption is not

:08:02.:08:06.

outlined as a matter of urgency. Our reporter, Lisa Summers, has more.

:08:07.:08:16.

Delivery runs are a daily routine, he supplies Italian sausages to

:08:17.:08:22.

restaurants. My main concern is how strict and I am to get into the city

:08:23.:08:31.

centre. -- restricted. We were busy. If I restricted, I will be late to

:08:32.:08:36.

supply my customers with their order. For the Lakes of

:08:37.:08:43.

supermarkets, being able to plan months ahead is essential. Companies

:08:44.:08:51.

warned of the consequences. if they don't get the information, it will

:08:52.:08:56.

be chaos. People will turn up and will be expecting to make deliveries

:08:57.:09:02.

to addresses that they expect to be able to access, restrictions will

:09:03.:09:07.

mean they cannot get in. The logistics mean the -- will be

:09:08.:09:15.

challenging. It will mean road closures. It is disruption for

:09:16.:09:20.

everybody else trying to get on with their lives. Travelling to the city

:09:21.:09:27.

centre is hell. I think they need to have something in place so that

:09:28.:09:32.

people can make alternative plans. Today we get detail of the plans for

:09:33.:09:38.

the Ryder Cup. Nothing specific from the Commonwealth Games on exactly

:09:39.:09:42.

what disruption lies ahead. Organisers say they have launched a

:09:43.:09:47.

web page. As yet, there is not much information on it. In a statement,

:09:48.:09:50.

they say they will provide as much information at every stage to ensure

:09:51.:09:56.

a successful games. This man is positive about the games, he expects

:09:57.:10:00.

business to be booming. He wants to know sooner rather than later.

:10:01.:10:05.

The number of divorces granted by Scottish courts has fallen again. In

:10:06.:10:10.

the year to the end of last March, it went down by 2%, continuing a

:10:11.:10:14.

trend over the past few years. 9,700 marriages were legally ended last

:10:15.:10:18.

year, that's a drop of 14% over the past four years. Official figures

:10:19.:10:23.

just issued also showed the number of civil partnerships which were

:10:24.:10:26.

dissolved have quadrupled in the past four years, up to 67.

:10:27.:10:32.

A wildfire in Aberdeenshire has just been brought under control. Around

:10:33.:10:35.

70 firefighters have been tackling the woodland blaze at the Rickarton

:10:36.:10:40.

Estate near Stonehaven. 11 fire engines and a number of specialist

:10:41.:10:43.

units have been involved in the operation. The incident comes just a

:10:44.:10:47.

few weeks after the fire service announced it was stepping up efforts

:10:48.:10:51.

to prevent wildfires. A look at other stories from the

:10:52.:10:57.

across the country this Monday. People living in the West Highlands

:10:58.:11:00.

are objecting to fare increases on the Corran Ferry. Communities in

:11:01.:11:03.

Morvern, Ardgour and Ardnamurchan which depend on the link say prices

:11:04.:11:07.

went up by 20% in November and next week will see the third rise in a

:11:08.:11:12.

year for the crossing. Highland Council says the ticket increases

:11:13.:11:15.

are to meet the cost of maintaining the vessel and a reserve boat.

:11:16.:11:25.

The scale of these increases, particularly the ones are being

:11:26.:11:31.

added with effect from April the 1st, is way beyond anything in

:11:32.:11:35.

history that has happened as far as that ferry is concerned. At a time

:11:36.:11:42.

of aggressively high fuel prices for rural areas like this, that really

:11:43.:11:47.

is a double whammy. Scotland's largest angling club is

:11:48.:11:50.

hitting out at the Scottish Government over plans to reopen a

:11:51.:11:53.

salmon netting station on the Aberdeenshire coast. It's claimed

:11:54.:11:55.

the station near the River Ythan will affect all north east rivers.

:11:56.:11:59.

The Government is urging the local fishery board to take action, if

:12:00.:12:02.

necessary. A foodbank has been opened

:12:03.:12:05.

officially in the Aberdeenshire town of Inverurie. The organisers say

:12:06.:12:09.

there's evidence of a need for the service, even in such a relatively

:12:10.:12:20.

prosperous area. A large number of people are suffering benefits

:12:21.:12:24.

delays. I think the national picture is that people in low-income jobs

:12:25.:12:27.

needing provision. The art impresario Richard DeMarco

:12:28.:12:30.

has been honoured in Edinburgh for the impact his work has had on the

:12:31.:12:34.

city. The 83-year-old, co-founder of the Traverse Theatre, has work in

:12:35.:12:37.

more than 2,500 collections. He's the seventh winner of the annual

:12:38.:12:40.

Edinburgh Award. Previous winners include Sir Chris Hoy and Peter

:12:41.:12:42.

Higgs. The Internet's helped the music and

:12:43.:12:49.

banking industries. It's indispensible in commerce. It's used

:12:50.:12:52.

in everything from cars to burglar alarms. And now dairy cows are on

:12:53.:12:57.

the web. Farmers are connecting their livestock to monitor their

:12:58.:13:00.

health and seeing the milk yield rise. A Scottish company has just

:13:01.:13:05.

won millions of pounds in funding to take its scheme global, and our

:13:06.:13:08.

business correspondent David Henderson has been to one farm,

:13:09.:13:17.

where the system's in use. It is the last place you would

:13:18.:13:22.

expect to see wireless computing, but these cals have gone online.

:13:23.:13:28.

Keeping watch on this milking herd takes a huge amount of time. Now

:13:29.:13:33.

senses on the cals keep the farm are informed about every aspect. You can

:13:34.:13:40.

tell if a cow is starting to go down with any sickness, especially with

:13:41.:13:47.

the digestive system. We can tell if it is stopping to eat as much or

:13:48.:13:52.

drink as much. If we can getting quicker and treat it quicker, we

:13:53.:13:56.

could cut down on our medical bills and get the cow back-up and running

:13:57.:14:05.

quicker. How does it work? Inside this cow's, there is a device which

:14:06.:14:10.

can communicate with the farm's commuter system. It detects movement

:14:11.:14:17.

and sends a warning. -- computer system. Almost any device from a car

:14:18.:14:21.

to a burglar alarm can send a warning to your mobile phone or to a

:14:22.:14:26.

laptop. Here it is a living creature. But the adapter that they

:14:27.:14:36.

supply is just as valuable. -- data. There is an opportunity for multiple

:14:37.:14:40.

users to access the data, that could include vets or animal scientists.

:14:41.:14:52.

They could look at the track and trace concept. Dairy farmers

:14:53.:14:57.

everywhere face the same challenge. To produce milk as efficiently as

:14:58.:15:01.

possible. Now a big deal for the firm behind this system means cals

:15:02.:15:07.

could soon be online worldwide. -- hows.

:15:08.:15:11.

The First World War created casualties on an industrial scale,

:15:12.:15:14.

with unimaginable numbers of dead and wounded. The losses devastated

:15:15.:15:16.

many communities, like Portree on Skye, where one one day in 1915, ten

:15:17.:15:20.

men from the village were killed. The band of brothers died because

:15:21.:15:24.

the Germans were using a new weapon - the Maxim machine gun. Our Social

:15:25.:15:30.

Affairs Correspondent, Reevel Alderson reports. A World War I

:15:31.:15:42.

Maxim machine gun could fire 666 rpm. It was deployed to deadly

:15:43.:15:48.

effect by the German army. Just how deadly was to be discovered in May

:15:49.:15:54.

1915 in the Isle of Skye. As in many communities, local men joined the

:15:55.:15:58.

call to arms in the Territorial Army.

:15:59.:16:06.

The fact they got paid for this was a great inducement for them to sign

:16:07.:16:12.

up. And they got away for a fortnight in the summertime. This

:16:13.:16:18.

was, for then, a holiday. People who train together will go

:16:19.:16:23.

off to walk together because they are in the company of friends. That

:16:24.:16:28.

is a big factor in building morale. A band of Brothers. Letters home

:16:29.:16:37.

told of their camaraderie. But it had deadly consequences. In May

:16:38.:16:44.

1915, the Portree company attacked this area in northern France.

:16:45.:16:51.

Because the Germans had machine guns, their defensive positions were

:16:52.:16:56.

impenetrable. It became easy to defend a position with just two or

:16:57.:17:02.

four machine-gun crews. For the offenders trying to take the

:17:03.:17:05.

territory, however many thousands of attack as they had, the machine guns

:17:06.:17:13.

would be able to kill them. In that one day, ten men from this

:17:14.:17:24.

village were killed. And you can see more on that over on

:17:25.:17:31.

BBC Two Scotland at 9pm. Now, a look at what else is

:17:32.:17:51.

happening across Scottish sport. With Celtic on the verge of

:17:52.:17:54.

clinching another league title and Hearts all but relegated, one of the

:17:55.:17:57.

key remaining battles in the Premiership is the one to avoid

:17:58.:18:01.

second bottom place. That means a play-off against a Championship side

:18:02.:18:04.

to stay in the top-flight. Defeats at the weekend for St Mirren,

:18:05.:18:13.

Partick Thistle, Ross County, and Kilmarnock mean the battle to avoid

:18:14.:18:17.

11th place and a relegation just got more tense. Those teams are

:18:18.:18:25.

separated by just three points. St Mirren are currently in that

:18:26.:18:30.

unwanted spot. How did the others into avoid it?

:18:31.:18:35.

You have to take risks in the game. You have to be brave and have a big

:18:36.:18:40.

heart. You must have confidence in your ability. You must take the ball

:18:41.:18:46.

and pass it and stay composed. Composure is not a quality often

:18:47.:18:53.

associated with relegation. But it certainly helps. Bwe have picked up

:18:54.:18:59.

the majority of points from teams at the bottom this year. It is up to us

:19:00.:19:03.

to keep the performance up. If you beat them, you give yourself a great

:19:04.:19:09.

chance. At least relegation no longer means

:19:10.:19:16.

financial disaster. If a team goes down, it receives a parachute

:19:17.:19:20.

payment. Winning the championship would bring a further three and

:19:21.:19:25.

?50,000. It adds up to the same prize money as finishing 11th. But

:19:26.:19:31.

the top is still weird you want to be. No disrespect to the first

:19:32.:19:36.

division but we do not want to return there. This is where we want

:19:37.:19:43.

to play our football to test ourselves against the best.

:19:44.:19:48.

With so much at stake could be more frayed nerves on the touchlines.

:19:49.:19:51.

Billy Davies has been sacked as manager of Nottingham Forest. It was

:19:52.:19:55.

the second spell in charge for the Scot at the Championship club.

:19:56.:19:58.

Forest were thrashed 5-0 on Saturday by play-off rivals Derby to end a

:19:59.:20:02.

run of seven league matches without a win. Davies was manager of

:20:03.:20:05.

Motherwell before his career took him south of the border.

:20:06.:20:09.

Melrose were crowned winners of the RBS Rugby Premiership in the most

:20:10.:20:12.

dramatic fashion, with the title only being decided in the final

:20:13.:20:15.

minutes of this year's campaign. Gala had been on course to secure

:20:16.:20:18.

the Championship, but suffered a last minute defeat by Ayr. That

:20:19.:20:23.

meant that Melrose would be the ones to hold the trophy aloft, snatching

:20:24.:20:26.

the title from under the noses of their neighbours.

:20:27.:20:37.

I was trying to focus on the game here. But I thought they might do

:20:38.:20:46.

what they always do. Pull it back at the tail end. But we are deserving

:20:47.:20:51.

winners. And to see the full drama of how

:20:52.:20:55.

Melrose won the title, tune into BBC Alba's Rugby Live show this

:20:56.:20:58.

Saturday, the 29th, and their game on the day is Treviso versus

:20:59.:21:03.

Edinburgh. Now, a look at what else is

:21:04.:21:09.

happening across Scottish sport. The BBC understands Scotland prop

:21:10.:21:12.

Geoff Cross will join London Irish in the summer. Last week, the

:21:13.:21:15.

31-year- old joined Glasgow Warriors on loan until the end of the season

:21:16.:21:19.

from Edinburgh. His former coach, Ivan Lendl was in

:21:20.:21:23.

the players box to see Andy Murray enjoy a straight sets win against

:21:24.:21:26.

Feliciano Lopez in Miami. Murray faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga tomorrow in

:21:27.:21:31.

the fourth round. The deadline to apply to be Cricket

:21:32.:21:35.

Scotland's new head coach has passed. The key role will be

:21:36.:21:38.

preparing the team for the twenty fifteen World Cup, a job which has

:21:39.:21:47.

appealed to applicants far and wide. To be honest, from all over the

:21:48.:21:53.

world. Some coaches domicile in Scotland. Some from the UK and some

:21:54.:21:58.

from further afield. South Africa, Australia, New Zealand. Lots of

:21:59.:22:01.

worldwide interest. And there are more sports stories on

BBC Sport Scotland's website. Thank you.

:22:11.:22:14.

Most comedians are used to being heckled. Although even veterans may

:22:15.:22:18.

be put off by members of the audience who scream, shout and

:22:19.:22:21.

wander off in the middle of a performance. Not those who took up

:22:22.:22:24.

the challenge of appearing at the "Watch with Baby" show, at this

:22:25.:22:27.

year's Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

:22:28.:22:36.

Are you planning to have more children? Has the conveyor belt

:22:37.:22:43.

started? . On the face of it, it is like any other comedy show. If you

:22:44.:22:47.

walk outs and a lot of drink. But this show was not aimed at babies it

:22:48.:22:53.

is aimed at their appearance. People are enjoying it too often do

:22:54.:22:56.

not get the chance because they have kids. This show is aimed at them and

:22:57.:23:00.

allows them to come out with their children. Like a big comedy creche.

:23:01.:23:08.

The comedy is definitely for the grown-ups. The medians are

:23:09.:23:13.

encouraged not to shout or swear. When it comes to dealing with a

:23:14.:23:18.

restless audience, it helps to zone out. I just zone out from the noise.

:23:19.:23:30.

I am used to doing that because of the kids.

:23:31.:23:34.

It was a sell-out last year and just as popular this year.

:23:35.:23:38.

Usually kids and comedy do not mix well. But this works. Pass the

:23:39.:23:49.

parcel between both of us! It is hard to do anything like this when

:23:50.:23:53.

you have kids so this is good. Could this be come and all-round

:23:54.:24:06.

year activity? As long as comics want to perform in front of

:24:07.:24:08.

screaming children, then it will continue. It would be lovely to

:24:09.:24:14.

continue it. Babies - as unpredictable as the

:24:15.:24:17.

weather, which has been lovely today. More of the same, please

:24:18.:24:19.

Judith. It has been a glorious day. This

:24:20.:24:36.

satellite picture shows wall-to-wall sunshine across Scotland. Almost

:24:37.:24:40.

unprecedented. But it will be a fairly settled week. A weather front

:24:41.:24:49.

is coming our way. This weather front is coming from Scandinavia. A

:24:50.:25:05.

dry end to the day for many. We will see cloud increasing and bits and

:25:06.:25:10.

pieces of rain feeding into western areas. Write a fresh wind. -- quite

:25:11.:25:20.

a fresh wind. It may feel colder across the far north and east.

:25:21.:25:25.

Tomorrow morning: Outbreaks of rain across western parts of the country.

:25:26.:25:32.

The rain will push eastwards. We will see more dry weather across

:25:33.:25:38.

northern parts. Plenty of dry weather for the Northern Isles and

:25:39.:25:49.

Caithness. And for northern parts of Aberdeenshire. Some spots of rain in

:25:50.:26:00.

the West. Temperatures generally around eight degrees. More of the

:26:01.:26:07.

same to come, then towards the evening a dryer picture. On

:26:08.:26:17.

Wednesday morning the seat more cloud. But looking lovely. A bit

:26:18.:26:24.

cooler in the East. Thanks. Now, a reminder of tonight's

:26:25.:26:44.

main news. More than two weeks after the

:26:45.:26:47.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 disappeared, the families of the two

:26:48.:26:50.

hundred and thirty-nine people who were on board have been told the

:26:51.:26:54.

plane did crash - and that no one survived. This afternoon Malaysia's

:26:55.:26:56.

Prime Minister said new evidence pointed to the flight "ending in the

:26:57.:27:00.

Southern Indian Ocean" - and far from any landing sites.

:27:01.:27:02.

Detectives searching for a missing Fife woman have found a body, in a

:27:03.:27:06.

park in Ayrshire. Nineteen year old Hazel North from Dumfermline was

:27:07.:27:10.

last seen by her family nearly three weeks ago, when she said she was

:27:11.:27:13.

going to Kilmarnock to visit a friend.

:27:14.:27:15.

And that's all from Reporting Scotland for now. Have a good

:27:16.:27:16.

evening.
