On tonight's Reporting Scotland: A new attempt to clear the name of the | :00:00. | :00:08.
man found guilty of the Lockerbie bombing. 270 people died in the | :00:09. | :00:11.
atrocity. Today, relatives delivered a new appeal both against Abdelbaset | :00:12. | :00:14.
al-Megrahi's conviction - and for the truth. I want to know why the | :00:15. | :00:24.
murder of my daughter was not prevented when there was so much | :00:25. | :00:29.
intelligence, at least 14 warnings, some of them very specific. | :00:30. | :00:31.
Also tonight: Good financial news for Rangers. A former director has | :00:32. | :00:35.
failed in a court attempt to freeze over ?500,000 in the club's account. | :00:36. | :00:45.
Hi, how are you? A shiny new trams service - but just | :00:46. | :00:49.
how accessible is it? We send our man Ian Hamilton to Edinburgh to | :00:50. | :00:51.
find some answers. Ten years - why A Play, A Pie, And A | :00:52. | :00:56.
Pint is one of the country's most successful theatre projects. | :00:57. | :00:58.
And the sporting focus is on Dingwall as Hibernian travel to Ross | :00:59. | :01:01.
County, with both sides fighting relegation. | :01:02. | :01:17.
25 relatives of the Lockerbie victims have agreed to support a new | :01:18. | :01:22.
application to clear the name of the only man convicted. They'll give the | :01:23. | :01:27.
Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission their new application in | :01:28. | :01:31.
the next couple of weeks to try to overturn the conviction. Our | :01:32. | :01:33.
political correspondent, Lucy Adams, reports. | :01:34. | :01:42.
For two men who lost their daughters in the Lockerbie bombing, the fight | :01:43. | :01:46.
for justice goes on. Jim Swire and John Mosey met in Glasgow today to | :01:47. | :01:49.
finalise the details of a new application to clear the name of | :01:50. | :01:54.
Abdelbaset al-Megrahi. They say they have new evidence about the | :01:55. | :01:58.
detonator which was persuade the commission to reopen the case. I | :01:59. | :02:03.
want to know by the murder of my daughter was not prevented when | :02:04. | :02:06.
there was so much intelligence, at least 14 warnings, some of them very | :02:07. | :02:12.
specific. Some people were warned. We were not. There is a great | :02:13. | :02:16.
urgency to have some kind of enquiry. It has been a long journey. | :02:17. | :02:21.
The campaign finances has gone on for many years. His daughter was on | :02:22. | :02:28.
the aircraft. I am representing about 25 British representatives, | :02:29. | :02:30.
and these are people who want to know the truth about who murdered | :02:31. | :02:33.
their families. They want the public to know the truth about how they | :02:34. | :02:37.
believe they have been deliberately kept on knowing the truth by our | :02:38. | :02:42.
government. In the 25 years since the bombing, the legal case has | :02:43. | :02:46.
taken many turns. In 2001, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was dispersed | :02:47. | :02:50.
appeal against conviction. In June 2007, the commission referred his | :02:51. | :02:56.
case for you repeal. In August 2009, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi dropped is to | :02:57. | :02:59.
appeal and was released from prison just days later on compassionate | :03:00. | :03:03.
grounds. He had terminal cancer. Today, relatives not to finalise an | :03:04. | :03:07.
application to appeal his conviction again, two years after he died. Some | :03:08. | :03:13.
have long doubted the guilt of the man convicted of the Lockerbie | :03:14. | :03:16.
bombing. Others have questioned how a single person could of course such | :03:17. | :03:20.
devastation. Now 25 of the relatives have endorsed a new application here | :03:21. | :03:25.
to the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission. They hope that | :03:26. | :03:28.
will lead to a new appeal and answers to their questions. In order | :03:29. | :03:33.
to consider any application, the commission have a 2-part test. The | :03:34. | :03:37.
first part is the miscarriage of justice. The second part is equally | :03:38. | :03:41.
important, and that is when it is in the interest of justice to accept an | :03:42. | :03:45.
application. In a statement, the Crown Office said: | :03:46. | :03:54.
A quarter of a century on, questions remain for the relatives of the 270 | :03:55. | :04:00.
Lockerbie victims. Their journey is a long way from over. | :04:01. | :04:04.
Former Rangers commercial director Imran Ahmad has failed in a second | :04:05. | :04:08.
bid to have over ?500,000 frozen in the club's account. He claims he is | :04:09. | :04:12.
owed the money in unpaid bonuses. Lord Armstrong rejected Mr Ahmad's | :04:13. | :04:15.
bid at the Court of Session in Edinburgh after hearing that | :04:16. | :04:17.
institutional investors at Rangers were prepared to step in to avoid | :04:18. | :04:20.
insolvency if season ticket sales slumped. Our senior football | :04:21. | :04:26.
reporter, Alasdair Lamont, was in court today. How important was it | :04:27. | :04:29.
for Rangers this decision went in their favour? I think you have to | :04:30. | :04:39.
say this was a pretty significant victory for Rangers, at least in the | :04:40. | :04:44.
short term. The implications of the decision going against them could | :04:45. | :04:47.
have had a devastating effect on their ability to continue trading, | :04:48. | :04:51.
and essentially what happened in court today was that Imran Ahmad | :04:52. | :04:54.
Sprinter Sacre lawyer painted a picture of Rangers diminishing | :04:55. | :04:59.
finances as he put it, and particularly underlining the | :05:00. | :05:00.
importance of season-ticket money to the clubs's ability to continue to | :05:01. | :05:07.
trade, and also the widely publicised doubts over just how many | :05:08. | :05:09.
season tickets would actually be purchased this coming year. In | :05:10. | :05:16.
response to that, the Rangers lawyer argued the importance of the threat | :05:17. | :05:20.
of a downturn has been overplayed. Crucially, he also argued that even | :05:21. | :05:25.
if there is a significant downturn, the Rangers institutional investors | :05:26. | :05:29.
have indicated only in the last week that they would be willing to step | :05:30. | :05:34.
in and finance a further equity issue in order to prevent any | :05:35. | :05:38.
potential insolvency happening. In his judgement, Lord Armstrong | :05:39. | :05:41.
admitted that while there was some scope for concern about Rangers | :05:42. | :05:45.
automatic financial position, he said it could not be said there was | :05:46. | :05:50.
a real possibility of Rangers being insolvent in early 2015, which is | :05:51. | :05:55.
when liability in Imran Ahmad's claim against Rangers would fall. | :05:56. | :06:01.
What now for Rangers financially? The first instance, you have to wait | :06:02. | :06:08.
and see what the uptake of the downturn in Rangers season tickets | :06:09. | :06:12.
actually is. There is a deadline of a 16th on renewals, and indications | :06:13. | :06:17.
are currently but the uptake has been slow. Rangers were criticised | :06:18. | :06:23.
for the setting up of a trust for fans who are disgruntled in the | :06:24. | :06:26.
running of the club to break their season-ticket money. They say that | :06:27. | :06:31.
is a damaging thing for the club and an example of twisted logic. If | :06:32. | :06:34.
there is a significant downturn in those season-ticket sales, it will | :06:35. | :06:38.
be interesting to see whether the institutional investors to step up | :06:39. | :06:42.
to the plate and invest in the club, which has spent the best part of ?70 | :06:43. | :06:45.
million in the last two years. Thank you. | :06:46. | :06:49.
The transport minister has insisted a notorious traffic blackspot in | :06:50. | :06:52.
Aberdeen won't be improved early even if a phased opening of the | :06:53. | :06:55.
city's bypass relieves pressure on the junction. Keith Brown was | :06:56. | :06:58.
appearing before councillors, who've been in dispute with the Scottish | :06:59. | :07:01.
Government over the timetable for the Haudagain roundabout | :07:02. | :07:08.
improvements. Kevin Keane reports. It has torn their relationship | :07:09. | :07:11.
apart, and brought them back together again. The politicians in | :07:12. | :07:16.
Aberdeen and Holyrood still can't agree on when improvements to this | :07:17. | :07:19.
notorious bottleneck should begin. There is a plan for what it will | :07:20. | :07:23.
look like, but on where in, they keep around. Today they met in the | :07:24. | :07:30.
middle, with the highly unusual occasion of a minister appearing | :07:31. | :07:33.
before local councillors. Mr Brown won't sanction the roundabout | :07:34. | :07:37.
improvements until the Aberdeen bypass, has been completed. But that | :07:38. | :07:44.
could be four years away. So questions. We have concerns, because | :07:45. | :07:52.
it would appear that if the bypass was finished in 2017, you are not | :07:53. | :07:57.
committing to the Haudagain roundabout onto 2013. Up although | :07:58. | :08:03.
preparatory work has gone on, the Scottish Government still has not | :08:04. | :08:08.
appointed a contractor for the long awaited Aberdeen bypass. Today, the | :08:09. | :08:11.
minister said he had fast tracked some sections of the route, but even | :08:12. | :08:15.
if that relieves pressure on the roundabout, work they're still won't | :08:16. | :08:20.
be advanced. The Mac we are keen to see what happens with the airport as | :08:21. | :08:25.
soon as possible, and also the discrete element of the contract. | :08:26. | :08:29.
That is being suggested as well. We're happy to listen to any | :08:30. | :08:33.
suggestions the council may have. The dispute between the council and | :08:34. | :08:37.
Scottish ministers spreads much further than this roundabout. But | :08:38. | :08:41.
after a string of quite public bus stops, this could be the first sign | :08:42. | :08:47.
of cordial relations. Still to come on this evening's | :08:48. | :08:53.
Reporting Scotland: ten years on, my A Play, A Pie, And A Pint is one of | :08:54. | :08:57.
the country's most successful they projects. | :08:58. | :08:59.
In sport, the former Rangers manager Alex McLeish gives his backing to | :09:00. | :09:01.
investor Dave King. Celtic eye a century of goals and | :09:02. | :09:03.
points. And lofty ambitions from the new | :09:04. | :09:06.
head coach of Scottish Cricket, who says Scotland can become a | :09:07. | :09:08.
Test-playing nation. A senior Welsh Labour MP has walked | :09:09. | :09:18.
out of a Westminster committee meeting, saying it was a "stunt" | :09:19. | :09:21.
aimed at embarrassing the Scottish Parliament. Paul Flynn left the | :09:22. | :09:25.
meeting of the Public Administration Committee after being asked to bring | :09:26. | :09:28.
his questioning of a senior civil servant to an end. | :09:29. | :09:41.
You have quite a long one. A rather long and tedious run. Order, order, | :09:42. | :09:51.
order. Mr Cairns. Mr Cairns! Order. Like I have to protest, or I will | :09:52. | :09:55.
have to leave the committee. You are using it as a stunt to try to | :09:56. | :09:58.
embarrass the Scottish Parliament and the idea of devolution. David | :09:59. | :10:01.
Porter is at Westminster for us tonight. David, support for the | :10:02. | :10:04.
Scottish parliament from an unlikely quarter there. What is behind this? | :10:05. | :10:08.
This is a classic case of tempers all around. We heard in that | :10:09. | :10:12.
exchange the frustration of the Labour MP, Paul Flynn. He had been | :10:13. | :10:16.
speaking and asking questions to senior civil servants. He felt he | :10:17. | :10:19.
was not getting answers he wanted. They wanted to continue his | :10:20. | :10:23.
questioning, and the chairman of the committee, Bernard Jenkin, try to | :10:24. | :10:26.
bring it to an end. We had that slights back there. Paul Flynn, as | :10:27. | :10:31.
Labour MP, would admit he is never going to win any prizes for the most | :10:32. | :10:36.
on message of Labour MPs, but his comments were highlighted by the | :10:37. | :10:39.
SNP. They would be less well received by the Labour leadership. | :10:40. | :10:44.
The committee did hear things about the impartiality of civil servants. | :10:45. | :10:47.
Specifically concerning the independence referendum. Go back | :10:48. | :10:50.
there with hearing evidence from the head of the civil service, Sir Bob | :10:51. | :10:54.
Kerslake, and the top civil servant of the Scottish Government, said | :10:55. | :10:59.
Peter Housley. They made it plain that civil servants were in partial, | :11:00. | :11:02.
that actually they offer advice to ministers, but that was for | :11:03. | :11:06.
ministers to decide but the policy would be taken, and then when that | :11:07. | :11:09.
policy was introduced, it was for the civil servants to carry it out. | :11:10. | :11:14.
Much of the hearing focus on the highly unusual and highly | :11:15. | :11:16.
controversial decision of the top civil servant, the Treasury, to make | :11:17. | :11:23.
plain his view and advice that he did not favour a currency union. We | :11:24. | :11:28.
were told by the civil servants and civil service language that was a | :11:29. | :11:33.
highly unusual set of circumstances. They also made it plain, and perhaps | :11:34. | :11:37.
a warning to ministers both in Edinburgh and London, that when the | :11:38. | :11:41.
campaign enters its final months, they expect the two governments to | :11:42. | :11:45.
operate something where they do not make announcements that try to give | :11:46. | :11:48.
them political advantage. We will wait and see if that is the case. | :11:49. | :11:52.
Thank you. Edinburgh's new tram service gets | :11:53. | :11:56.
under way at the end of the month. It's being billed as the first | :11:57. | :11:59.
transport system in Scotland to be designed and built with disabled | :12:00. | :12:02.
people in mind. To find out how accessible it is, our reporter Ian | :12:03. | :12:09.
Hamilton went along to try it out. Hi. How are you? This is guide dog | :12:10. | :12:18.
instructor, Julie. She will demonstrate the Safeway to use the | :12:19. | :12:22.
trends. The trends arrive from the left-hand side. If you require | :12:23. | :12:29.
assistance, there are buttons on the platform. One is for emergencies and | :12:30. | :12:36.
the other for information. So you don't wonder accidentally onto the | :12:37. | :12:40.
track, tactile pavement runs the length of the platform. Once inside, | :12:41. | :12:44.
there is plenty of space for a large German Shepherd. You like really | :12:45. | :12:49.
Edinburgh trams are accessible for big white people like myself, but | :12:50. | :12:52.
what are they like for wheelchair users? When necessary, there is | :12:53. | :12:56.
little to take them onto the platform. Wide doors and level | :12:57. | :13:00.
access makes it easy for Michael to get his onto the train. To improve | :13:01. | :13:06.
travel in the capital, Mike would like to see the tram network | :13:07. | :13:10.
completed. Nevertheless, he says this is a way for future users like | :13:11. | :13:15.
him to travel. You like there is a guaranteed space between the | :13:16. | :13:19.
platform and the tram, and guarantee there will be no difference in | :13:20. | :13:24.
height. There is never a problem in getting between the platform and the | :13:25. | :13:31.
vehicle. The tram operator said disability access is taken extremely | :13:32. | :13:34.
seriously from outside of the project, accessibility has been key | :13:35. | :13:39.
for us. We want everyone to use the trends across the piece. The more | :13:40. | :13:44.
people that can get access to the tram easily and efficiently, the | :13:45. | :13:50.
better. The trains will go live on the 31st of May, so we still have a | :13:51. | :13:56.
little weight if we want to use the tram' on our own. | :13:57. | :14:02.
The Scottish Government says it will look closely at the findings of a | :14:03. | :14:05.
report on asthma care. The first major study of asthma deaths found | :14:06. | :14:09.
the UK has one of the highest death rates in Europe - largely because | :14:10. | :14:12.
medical staff and patients have become complacent about the illness. | :14:13. | :14:15.
Public health minister Michael Matheson said he would ask national | :14:16. | :14:18.
advisors to consider what action was needed. Edinburgh council is to | :14:19. | :14:25.
write a ?500 million of the debt owing after the collapse of its | :14:26. | :14:29.
property repair service. Under Edwin Brie statutory notices, the council | :14:30. | :14:33.
paid upfront for repairs to tenement buildings and recover the money | :14:34. | :14:37.
afterwards. -- Edinburgh statutory notices. However, it closed after it | :14:38. | :14:41.
was found to be open to abuse. The Scottish Conservatives have | :14:42. | :14:43.
begun their campaign for this month's European elections, with an | :14:44. | :14:45.
emphasis on opposing Scottish independence. The party leader, Ruth | :14:46. | :14:48.
Davidson, says it's crucial to counter the SNP pitch that Scotland | :14:49. | :14:51.
could easily become an independent member of the European Union. Here's | :14:52. | :14:59.
our political editor, Brian Taylor. From the leader, a kiss for | :15:00. | :15:04.
Stevenson, who was starting down as the party's sole ENP -- MP. The | :15:05. | :15:11.
Tories will counter the SNP, who topped the poll at the last European | :15:12. | :15:15.
elections, with a direct attack upon the notion of independence. But they | :15:16. | :15:19.
are also promising a referendum in three-year's time on whether the UK | :15:20. | :15:24.
should be in or out of the European Union. What they want is reform. | :15:25. | :15:28.
That is basically where it lies. People like the market and the idea | :15:29. | :15:32.
of trade and trading without hindrance. That is popular. But they | :15:33. | :15:37.
don't want is interference, form filling, red tape, being told how to | :15:38. | :15:40.
manage their day-to-day affairs by people they have never met. Nigel | :15:41. | :15:47.
Farage of UKIP on a previous Scottish visit. He's back later this | :15:48. | :15:51.
week. They say they aren't worried. I think in terms of the party, it is | :15:52. | :15:57.
trying to draw support. It is not having the same success as it has | :15:58. | :15:59.
down south. That perhaps is because when Nigel Farage has come to | :16:00. | :16:05.
Scotland and try to fill the needs of nationalists, he may have found | :16:06. | :16:12.
that might be done. Who knows? But the Tory attack extends beyond UKIP | :16:13. | :16:16.
in the SNP. More generally, they accuse their rivals of ducking the | :16:17. | :16:20.
challenge of reforming the European Union. | :16:21. | :16:25.
The Conservative pitch at these elections will be to keep Scotland | :16:26. | :16:33.
within the United Kingdom and to keep United Kingdom within a | :16:34. | :16:37.
reformed European Union. Now for a look at other stories from | :16:38. | :16:40.
across the country. A crackdown on crime across | :16:41. | :16:43.
Edinburgh is targeting violent, disorderly and anti-social | :16:44. | :16:44.
behaviour. Operation Wolf has already led to a series of arrests | :16:45. | :16:48.
connected with serious violent crime. Anti-social behaviour, | :16:49. | :17:01.
violent client, housebreaking and other behaviours we are doing that | :17:02. | :17:06.
over the next six weeks. National resources will be brought in to | :17:07. | :17:08.
bring those individuals involved in those crimes to justice. | :17:09. | :17:12.
An investigation is under way after the body of a dog was found dumped | :17:13. | :17:17.
in a suitcase in the Torry area of Aberdeen. The Scottish SPCA says the | :17:18. | :17:19.
female German shepherd was underweight and in very poor | :17:20. | :17:22.
condition. It's not yet clear how she died. | :17:23. | :17:25.
The number of police officers in Scotland has fallen again. There are | :17:26. | :17:28.
now 250 fewer than there were a year ago, according to official figures. | :17:29. | :17:31.
They show the Scottish Government has maintained its target of an | :17:32. | :17:34.
extra 1,000 officers by just ten. The Justice Secretary says more | :17:35. | :17:37.
officers are being recruited ahead of the Commonwealth Games. | :17:38. | :17:40.
Police say an 8-year-old girl was the victim of an unprovoked attack | :17:41. | :17:48.
by two teenage boys in Dumfries. The girl was punched and pushed on | :17:49. | :17:51.
Glencairn Road just before six o'clock last night. Police have | :17:52. | :17:54.
issued descriptions of the boys. A Drumnadrochit businessman has | :17:55. | :17:56.
called on the organisers of the first closed roads cycle race around | :17:57. | :18:00.
Loch Ness to improve talks with the local community if the event is to | :18:01. | :18:04.
go ahead next year. Around a thousand riders took part in the | :18:05. | :18:07.
first Loch Ness Etape last Sunday - but some businesses have claimed | :18:08. | :18:11.
that the full closure of the A82 hit trade. | :18:12. | :18:16.
A Hollywood-style sign could be erected permanently at Macduff. The | :18:17. | :18:22.
sign - and the lighting of Banff bridge - are among proposals to help | :18:23. | :18:25.
regenerate the towns. Aberdeenshire Council is also consulting on plans | :18:26. | :18:36.
for Peterhead and Fraserburgh. Sports Nayar and more from Ibrox. | :18:37. | :18:42.
Good evening. As we heard earlier - good news on | :18:43. | :18:46.
the financial front for Rangers in Court today. Now the club's former | :18:47. | :18:49.
Manager Alex McLeish has voiced his backing for investor Dave King in | :18:50. | :18:53.
his bid to give the club financial security. McLeish led Rangers to two | :18:54. | :18:56.
League championships and five cup wins in five years and says the | :18:57. | :18:59.
assets of the club must be protected. It would be great to see | :19:00. | :19:07.
somebody like Dave King takeover, with the respect he has paid to the | :19:08. | :19:15.
fans and the union with the fans, looking to make sure that the assets | :19:16. | :19:23.
are safe. Then, for me, that would be a great solution for Rangers. | :19:24. | :19:26.
The stakes are high in the Scottish Premiership tonight as Ross County | :19:27. | :19:29.
play Hibernian in Dingwall. For the winners - top flight football for | :19:30. | :19:33.
another season - for the losers a nerve jangling final round of | :19:34. | :19:36.
matches on Saturday - and the threat of relegation to the championship. | :19:37. | :19:41.
David Currie reports. Ross County versus Hibernian, it is like a cup | :19:42. | :19:49.
final without a trophy, but that is a prize, guaranteed premiership | :19:50. | :19:55.
survival. Hence, Partick Thistle, county or call Marnoch Goodall | :19:56. | :20:03.
finished second bottom and sees the relegation play-off championship | :20:04. | :20:08.
club. -- or Kilmarnock. There is a finality about this match against | :20:09. | :20:13.
Ross County, we win the match and we are safe. The game is massive. It is | :20:14. | :20:18.
the biggest game of the season. We're under no illusions we need | :20:19. | :20:25.
three points. Katie had just two wins from the last few matches. If | :20:26. | :20:31.
we do not go into this game with some sort of confidence and belief, | :20:32. | :20:36.
there is no point in turning up. We have a lot of talent in that | :20:37. | :20:42.
dressing room. Hibernian's last win was 12 games ago. It does not sound | :20:43. | :20:48.
fantastic, but compared to where we were, it is light years away. It is | :20:49. | :20:54.
Hibernian football club were talking about, we do not do things the easy | :20:55. | :20:58.
way, we get there in the end but it is a struggle. To the losers are | :20:59. | :21:05.
nervous final round of matches on Saturday. If it is a draw, people | :21:06. | :21:13.
added trouble. -- people are in trouble. | :21:14. | :21:16.
And there are play off pressures looming elsewhere in the Scottish | :21:17. | :21:19.
Premiership. Here's news of that and more in Scottish sport... | :21:20. | :21:21.
Kilmarnock sit in the relegation play off spot after Sunday's 5-0 | :21:22. | :21:24.
defeat by Hearts. Some Killie supporters have been calling for | :21:25. | :21:27.
manager Allan Johnson to be sacked, but he remains positive. We have had | :21:28. | :21:30.
opportunities to get ourselves away from this relegation but we have not | :21:31. | :21:34.
taken them so we have put ourselves under a lot of pressure. But I think | :21:35. | :21:39.
we have the characters in the dressing room. We have good young | :21:40. | :21:43.
players who can make sure we get the results in the next couple of games. | :21:44. | :21:47.
At the other end of the table Celtic have 96 goals and 95 points. Manager | :21:48. | :21:50.
Neil Lennon has said 100 points and 100 goals are their big targets now. | :21:51. | :21:56.
A final day of practice for Andy Murray before he begins his Madrid | :21:57. | :21:59.
Masters campaign tomorrow.. It could be a tricky clash against the | :22:00. | :22:02.
on-form Spanish clay-court specialist Nicolas Almagro. | :22:03. | :22:10.
Definitely be one of the hardest first-round matches. Yeah, very | :22:11. | :22:18.
tough, he obviously beat Rafael Nadal a few days ago. He has been | :22:19. | :22:22.
playing in Spain, it will be very tough. | :22:23. | :22:25.
And back in football, two matches tonight including Ross County v | :22:26. | :22:28.
Hibs. It's a 7.45 kick off with coverage on Radio, online and that | :22:29. | :22:32.
match can also be seen on BBC Alba from 10pm. | :22:33. | :22:35.
Scottish Cricket's new head coach believes he can lead the national | :22:36. | :22:41.
side into the Test arena. Grant Bradburn was introduced to the media | :22:42. | :22:44.
in Edinburgh today, ahead of Scotland's One Day international | :22:45. | :22:47.
against England later this week. And as Phil Goodlad reports, the New | :22:48. | :22:50.
Zealander wants to change the shape of cricket in this country. | :22:51. | :22:59.
Meet Scottish cricket's new head coach. What can we expect from him? | :23:00. | :23:07.
You earn the right to success. I am a hard-working coach and expect that | :23:08. | :23:12.
from my players. I am a coach that understands the end results of | :23:13. | :23:18.
performance. He is steeped in the New Zealand cricket. He moved into | :23:19. | :23:25.
coaching domestically and for the national side. He knows he has a | :23:26. | :23:32.
mixture of professional and amateur players. He has a clear methods of | :23:33. | :23:36.
improving players individually and collectively. Scotland cannot play | :23:37. | :23:45.
test cricket, but that could change with play-offs scheduled for 2018. | :23:46. | :23:48.
The gotcha is how hopes for Scotland. Of course to play test | :23:49. | :23:56.
cricket, we need to break into the top teams. Do you think it is | :23:57. | :24:04.
achievable? Yes, I do. A new era is underway for Cricket Scotland. | :24:05. | :24:08.
Hopefully the new coach will get them off to the best possible | :24:09. | :24:12.
start, out in the middle against England this Friday. | :24:13. | :24:17.
Thank you very much. It began as a piece of lunchtime | :24:18. | :24:22.
theatre for a new Glasgow pub. But ten years on A Play A Pie And A Pint | :24:23. | :24:26.
is one of the country's most successful theatre projects - | :24:27. | :24:29.
serving up 38 plays a year - to mostly sell out crowds at home and | :24:30. | :24:32.
abroad. Our arts correspondent Pauline McLean joined the crowd for | :24:33. | :24:37.
today's show. It is a simple enough recipe, | :24:38. | :24:45.
apartheid, a pint and of course the play. Every week for the past ten | :24:46. | :24:48.
years, there has been no shortage of audiences queueing up for a serving. | :24:49. | :24:57.
It gives you that lift to your day. You come in and watch a funny play. | :24:58. | :25:02.
You have some quiche and a nice glass of wine. It is my wife's | :25:03. | :25:08.
birthday so we thought we would come and do something and enjoy | :25:09. | :25:12.
ourselves. There's a nice atmosphere. You get a drink and you | :25:13. | :25:20.
get a nice pie and you get to see a play. No shortage of actors and | :25:21. | :25:22.
writers who averages more than 300 plays. Today it is the turn of | :25:23. | :25:28.
actress Joyce Faulkner who is squeezing a lot into her lunch hour. | :25:29. | :25:38.
A community choir she has recruited to tell the tale. Certainly for a | :25:39. | :25:47.
long time, it was not acceptable for working people, it was too highbrow | :25:48. | :25:52.
and it was too long so I think this is ideal for a non-theatregoing | :25:53. | :25:59.
audience. The appetite for shows has been huge. This one has already been | :26:00. | :26:06.
seen in Aberdeen. Others have gone to London, Beirut and Bermuda. The | :26:07. | :26:12.
rest before success? Our audience has the loyalty and enthusiasm for | :26:13. | :26:17.
coming along and they make A Play, A Pie, And A Pint what it is. That and | :26:18. | :26:23.
variety, we provide a variety of high-quality work and the audience | :26:24. | :26:27.
think they will stick with this and hopefully we will continue to stick | :26:28. | :26:31.
with us for the next ten years and come and see stuff. Follow that! | :26:32. | :26:41.
Thank you very much Jackie. Good evening. The weather this week is | :26:42. | :26:48.
unsettled to say the least. This evening, then pushing in. Here is | :26:49. | :26:54.
the rainfall radar. This gassing of showers, with those showers merging | :26:55. | :26:59.
in the West to form a band of showery rain which crosses the | :27:00. | :27:05.
country overnight. A pretty mild nights. Temperatures are around | :27:06. | :27:10.
seven up to nine Celsius. You can see the legacy of the rain across | :27:11. | :27:14.
the north coast tomorrow morning and into parts of Glasgow and Argyll. | :27:15. | :27:20.
Elsewhere it will be dry. Towards the afternoon, we have three | :27:21. | :27:23.
distinct areas of weather. Across the south-west, this rain pushing | :27:24. | :27:30.
into the south-west and the Borders. It will stay for most of the day. A | :27:31. | :27:35.
brisk westerly breeze as well. By the North, there will be some cloud | :27:36. | :27:40.
and bright spells but the rain is not far away. Frequent, heavy and | :27:41. | :27:47.
slow moving showers. Also some bright or sunny skies. The Northwest | :27:48. | :27:52.
does best with dry conditions but some showers will come through. The | :27:53. | :27:58.
rest of the afternoon and into the evening and overnight, with lighter | :27:59. | :28:02.
winds in the north, if you catch a shower it will be waiting for some | :28:03. | :28:07.
time. Holding onto wet weather in far south. If we look at the | :28:08. | :28:10.
pressure chart, we can see the reason for this unsettled weather. | :28:11. | :28:16.
This massive area of low pressure will stay for most of the week | :28:17. | :28:21.
pushing showers are away. Thursday will be a better day, still sunshine | :28:22. | :28:26.
and showers but the showers are not as heavy. Some brighter skies. Still | :28:27. | :28:33.
wait in the south-west. A return to heavy showers on Friday with hail | :28:34. | :28:37.
and thunder mixed in. A lot going on so keep an island the forecast. | :28:38. | :28:42.
Thank you very much. A reminder of the night's news -- | :28:43. | :28:47.
relatives of the Lockerbie bombing have agreed to support a new | :28:48. | :28:52.
application to queueing the name of the man accused of the crime. -- | :28:53. | :28:59.
convicted of the crime. The biggest ever proposed foreign takeover of a | :29:00. | :29:02.
British firm is to be scrutinised by Parliament. American giant Pfizer | :29:03. | :29:09.
has offered ?63 billion for the British company AstraZeneca but so | :29:10. | :29:13.
far has been rebuffed. The bosses of both companies have been summoned to | :29:14. | :29:19.
appear before MPs. That is Reporting Scotland. Our next | :29:20. | :29:22.
main bulletin is just after the ten o'clock news. From everyone here, | :29:23. | :29:26.
enjoy your evening. | :29:27. | :29:30. |
