A protest march took place in Shetland against plans to end

secondary three and four classes at the five Junior High Schools across

the islands. The campaign group, Communities United for Rural

Education, argues pupils should be able to continue studying in their

own area until the age of 16. The council says the changes are needed

because of falling school rolls and the current model of Junior

High Schools does not fit in with the new Curriculum for Excellence.

On the march, people of all ages and backgrounds take to the streets.

They are protesting against plans to change junior high school

arrangements. They want the value given to rural schools, they want to

see them supported. The Highland Council argues that the current

model is too expensive and does not fit in with the new curriculum for

excellence. We are subsidised more than any other local education

authority in Scotland and recently cannot afford to do that any

longer. No decision has yet been taken and what the future of

education in the islands will be. Toy maker Lego has forced

the UK government to stop using its characters to

illustrate a campaign The Treasury has removed a series

of images of Lego from an item about the economics of independence on its

website. Lego says it regards itself Around 1500 fans of her dearly and
