Shipbuilders on the Clyde win a new CalMac ferry order. | :00:07. | :00:10.
It's the first new contract for Ferguson's in Port Glasgow, | :00:11. | :00:12.

It is a horrible feeling to come into your House and realise someone | :00:39. | :00:52.
has been there. And later in the programme, | :00:53. | :00:55.
as work continues on the new V museum in Dundee, we take a look | :00:56. | :00:58.
at some of the treasures that could The Ferguson shipyard in | :00:59. | :01:01.
Port Glasgow has won its first ferry building contract | :01:02. | :01:17.
since being rescued from closure. Clyde Blowers Capital owned | :01:18. | :01:19.
by the billionaire Jim McColl bought the yard after it went | :01:20. | :01:22.
into administration with a promise to expand the business | :01:23. | :01:25.
and win new work. It's now secured | :01:26. | :01:36.
a ?12 million contract from the Scottish Government, to build | :01:37. | :01:38.
a third hybrid ferry for CalMac. Our Business Correspondent, David | :01:39. | :01:40.
Henderson, is at the yard tonight. It has been an extraordinary time in | :01:41. | :01:53.
the life of this shipyard. The last owners went bust and the entire | :01:54. | :01:57.
workforce was laid off. Those gates were closed and locked, many feared | :01:58. | :02:04.
for the last time. But now, a new start. New orders. And crucially a | :02:05. | :02:10.
new contract. It means that the story of shipbuilding on the lower | :02:11. | :02:14.
Clyde and in Port Glasgow which has spanned more than a century is about | :02:15. | :02:21.
to start a new chapter. It is the last shipyard on the lower Clyde and | :02:22. | :02:26.
many feared it was about to close. Now it is making a comeback. Over | :02:27. | :02:32.
recent years the workforce made two of these hybrid fairies. Now they | :02:33. | :02:35.
have won a contract on the Scottish Government is to build a third. | :02:36. | :02:41.
There was a competitive process in 2011 for the building of four hybrid | :02:42. | :02:46.
vessels. Ferguson 's was the winning bidder. Two of the vessels have been | :02:47. | :02:51.
constructive. This is now the placing of the order for the third | :02:52. | :02:56.
of those vessels. Everything has been done in line with EU public | :02:57. | :03:06.
document rules and regulations. These are vessels have electric | :03:07. | :03:08.
motors powered by battery and at diesel engine. It cuts greenhouse | :03:09. | :03:15.
gas emissions. It should also means they are in line with strict | :03:16. | :03:23.
European Union rules. In the past Fergusons lost out to rival | :03:24. | :03:27.
shipbuilders on the continent. This union figure said that cannot be | :03:28. | :03:32.
allowed to happen again. We have got one commercial shipyard in Scotland. | :03:33. | :03:39.
We have a right to protect our business interests and the community | :03:40. | :03:43.
and the skills base and knowledge. We have that right. If the EU | :03:44. | :03:48.
guideline to see different then the guidelines are wrong. Now this | :03:49. | :03:53.
shipyard has a new owner, Clyde Blowers Capital, run by Jim McCall. | :03:54. | :03:58.
He has high hopes for its future. Today's new contract gives him a | :03:59. | :04:04.
great place to start. If all goes to plan this shipyard | :04:05. | :04:12.
will do much more than just build ships in the future. It has been | :04:13. | :04:18.
billed as a centre of marine engineering which means taking on | :04:19. | :04:22.
contracts in the oil and gas industry and the renewable energy | :04:23. | :04:27.
sector. Around 70 members of staff lost their jobs here last month when | :04:28. | :04:33.
the police close. Many of them are likely to return to work here to | :04:34. | :04:39.
begin work on the new contract. -- when the shipyard closed. And if all | :04:40. | :04:44.
goes well the company wants to take on another 200 staff in the coming | :04:45. | :04:45.
years. Lawyers acting for the families of | :04:46. | :04:49.
three men who died after their tug boat sank on the River Clyde have | :04:50. | :04:52.
called for a fatal accident inquiry. The call comes | :04:53. | :04:55.
after the port operator, Clydeport, was fined ?650,000 pounds | :04:56. | :04:57.
for health and safety breaches. The Flying Phantom capsized on the River | :04:58. | :05:02.
Clyde in thick fog in December 2007. Last week at the High Court | :05:03. | :05:07.
in Edinburgh, Clydeport pleaded guilty to several breaches | :05:08. | :05:10.
of health and safety legislation. Last year the tugboat owner | :05:11. | :05:14.
Svitzer Marine was fined ?1.7 The Chancellor has said he believes | :05:15. | :05:16.
a Scotland with greater tax powers will choose to reduce them - | :05:17. | :05:26.
and make it a low tax country. Addressing the Conservative party | :05:27. | :05:29.
conference in Birmingham, George Osborne re-iterated that as promised | :05:30. | :05:31.
before the vote on independence, Holyrood will be able to raise more | :05:32. | :05:35.
of the money it spends. Our Political Correspondent, David | :05:36. | :05:38.
Porter is in Birmingham, David. A fortnight ago those at the very | :05:39. | :05:54.
top of the Conservative Party were seriously considering the prospect | :05:55. | :05:57.
that Scotland may decide to leave the union as the volt looks too | :05:58. | :06:06.
close to call in the referendum. In the end the normal case prevailed | :06:07. | :06:09.
and Scotland was promised more powers and further devolution has | :06:10. | :06:20.
been promised. Not quite so quick. The Scottish question still looms | :06:21. | :06:25.
large. Economy D and the Tories feel they | :06:26. | :06:33.
have a good story to tell despite the warnings of continuing | :06:34. | :06:37.
hostility. But the Scottish question will not go away. The repercussions | :06:38. | :06:41.
of the referendum are still being felt. But the man in charge of | :06:42. | :06:47.
present tax policy has called to embrace the new tax policy. I | :06:48. | :06:56.
suspect the people of Scotland will choose to put them down, not up. But | :06:57. | :07:05.
a warning that an extra rates will come new responsibilities including | :07:06. | :07:09.
Scottish MPs removing themselves from voters do not concern the | :07:10. | :07:15.
constituencies. In the mother of parliament we cannot have platinum | :07:16. | :07:19.
card wielding Scottish MPs who can vote for measures in English | :07:20. | :07:24.
constituencies but not in their own Scottish seats. Why should those | :07:25. | :07:32.
selfsame Scottish MPs vote on taxation in Birmingham? But to make | :07:33. | :07:37.
the emphasis is on the positive with the Prime Minister thanking Scottish | :07:38. | :07:39.
Tories personally for the role they played in the referendum campaign. | :07:40. | :07:46.
And the Prime Minister is due to speak to Scottish activists within | :07:47. | :07:50.
the next 30 minutes. He wants to personally thank people for the role | :07:51. | :07:56.
that the played in the referendum campaign. He will also take the | :07:57. | :08:03.
opportunity to reaffirm that Scotland is going to get more powers | :08:04. | :08:15.
and he wanted to be a priority. As the UK Tory party meets in | :08:16. | :08:18.
Birmingham we will be discussing what they have to do to stage a | :08:19. | :08:22.
comeback in Scotland. Senior Tories were judged to have had a good | :08:23. | :08:26.
referendum campaign. They are offering generous devolution | :08:27. | :08:29.
proposals, but is that enough to win then more than one seat at next | :08:30. | :08:33.
year's general election. We will discuss that tonight. | :08:34. | :08:39.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. | :08:40. | :08:41.
Still to come on tonight's programme - choosing the exhibits | :08:42. | :08:44.
for the Victoria and Albert two years ahead of opening in Dundee. | :08:45. | :08:46.
In sport, we talk to the Scotsman and the Irishman at the heart | :08:47. | :08:50.
And it?s his first title since Wimbledon. | :08:51. | :08:52.
After all the excitement of Europe's victory in the Ryder Cup, Gleneagles | :08:53. | :09:06.
and the surrounding area are returning to something like normal. | :09:07. | :09:08.
So what will be the legacy of the event? | :09:09. | :09:11.
As the clear up continues, our reporter Lisa Summers is | :09:12. | :09:13.
That is The View that the world 's top golfers would have as they teed | :09:14. | :09:28.
off. It looks stunning tonight as The Sun goes down but it is hard to | :09:29. | :09:34.
believe that it is all over. It took months to build the infrastructure. | :09:35. | :09:37.
It will take just as long to bring them all down. We will hear the | :09:38. | :09:41.
story of the golf later on in the programme. But first, time to | :09:42. | :09:47.
reflect on the success in the raider capital that will mean for | :09:48. | :09:49.
Scotland. How quickly normal life resumes. | :09:50. | :10:04.
Only hours ago the crowd was at times 30 deep. Today at Gleneagles | :10:05. | :10:08.
at Gleneagles it is time to bask in the success. The day of arrival, the | :10:09. | :10:19.
American players were straight out the front door to the practice | :10:20. | :10:29.
range. The Ryder Cup is the top of town. It was Friday morning and I | :10:30. | :10:39.
went to the first tee to get the atmosphere. It is something I will | :10:40. | :10:48.
never forget. I am quite sure some of the people have been absolutely | :10:49. | :10:54.
stunned with this unity. Golf tourism is worth ?220 million per | :10:55. | :10:59.
year and there is already talk that its star tournament will be back. | :11:00. | :11:04.
People have used this year as a platform to be out bidding for a big | :11:05. | :11:08.
sporting events to come to Scotland. We are in a strong position to do | :11:09. | :11:12.
this with the success that was shown here and at the Commonwealth Games. | :11:13. | :11:17.
The Ryder Cup will be on our list, maybe to bring us back to Scotland | :11:18. | :11:21.
sooner than anyone anticipated. How does Scotland capitalise? The key to | :11:22. | :11:27.
attracting future events to Scotland is to continue to improve our | :11:28. | :11:31.
offering in Scotland. We need to begin offering Asian breakfasts and | :11:32. | :11:40.
translating our menus into Cantonese. We need to be more | :11:41. | :11:49.
nuanced in our offer. It is quieter here today on the 18th. These bands | :11:50. | :11:57.
came from the Commonwealth Games. They will now be transported off to | :11:58. | :12:01.
a rugby tournament. Some of the background will be recycled. The | :12:02. | :12:06.
entire dismantling operation will take until the end of November. This | :12:07. | :12:11.
summer has been a shop window for Scotland and big business. There is | :12:12. | :12:16.
more to come. Watch this space as to whether we can bring the Ryder Cup | :12:17. | :12:20.
back. There are plenty of events to come. Scotland will play a key role | :12:21. | :12:25.
in the European Championships. Next year we will host the European | :12:26. | :12:30.
swimming Championships. And there will be the MTV Europe awards at the | :12:31. | :12:32.
start of November. Police are hunting for four masked | :12:33. | :12:34.

Around four and a half thousand households are being | :13:20. | :13:21.

horrible feeling to come into your property and realise someone has | :14:07. | :14:10.
been there. They have thrown things on the floor. To add insult to | :14:11. | :14:15.
injury they also had a meal in our kitchen. According to police figures | :14:16. | :14:24.
there are almost 23,500 House break-ins reported in 2013. This | :14:25. | :14:33.
increased to 27,700 following year. That is up 18%. Police have a new | :14:34. | :14:39.
deterrent. Akron three. -- Smartwater. People can use it to | :14:40. | :14:50.

feeling is stay away from a place with Smartwater. They will find | :15:36. | :15:42.

successful it is hoped to be used across Scotland. | :15:52. | :15:58.

Children aged between two and 11 are being offered a nasal spray vaccine. | :17:05. | :17:16.
If we vaccinate all the people that we have in the programme we will | :17:17. | :17:21.
reduce the amount of flu that is circulating. Even those people that | :17:22. | :17:28.

What was the party like? It was quite good. There was a table tennis | :18:38. | :18:47.

Graeme McDowell, Martin Kaymer all leading on the final day charge. | :18:56. | :19:02.
Jamie Donaldson sealed a famous victory. Partisan galleries loved | :19:03. | :19:16.

It creates an expectation. For the Americans it is an eighth defeat in | :19:29. | :19:33.

can. It is a wonderful thing to do. Everything that goes on in class | :23:01. | :23:04.
cannot go on without these volunteers. It is the chance for a | :23:05. | :23:08.
people like myself and other athletes to see thanks very much | :23:09. | :23:13.
because we really appreciate it. To get that recognition is a great | :23:14. | :23:26.
thing. Nominate your hero. -- your unsung hero. | :23:27. | :23:30.
So here's how you can start the process | :23:31. | :23:32.
Information and forms can be found at bbc.co.uk/unsunghero. | :23:33. | :23:35.
The closing date is Monday the 20th of October. | :23:36. | :23:38.
Also remember if you have nominated in years gone | :23:39. | :23:40.
by, but were unsuccessful, you can nominate again. | :23:41. | :23:48.
It may be two years until the Victoria and Albert open their new | :23:49. | :23:55.
museum and dandy, but already the curator 's are deciding what to | :23:56. | :24:08.
exhibit. -- Bearder new museum in Dundee. | :24:09. | :24:18.
These could be onshore in the new museum. We have many thousands of | :24:19. | :24:31.
Scottish objects. My job is to select the works and come up with | :24:32. | :24:34.
stories that will be told in the Scottish design gallery. The museum | :24:35. | :24:45.
is due to open in 2017. It will have a series of changing exhibitions | :24:46. | :24:56.
featuring items from other museums. The Dundee museum will look and feel | :24:57. | :24:59.
very different from the original in London. But it is hoped that the | :25:00. | :25:06.
collections will have the same international appeal. It is a museum | :25:07. | :25:14.
with a purpose. To help people understand the importance of Art and | :25:15. | :25:17.
design and how that can affect the future of our industries. The Dundee | :25:18. | :25:30.
building will be a great piece of design. Meanwhile the task of | :25:31. | :25:38.
choosing which of the thousands of objects best tell the story of | :25:39. | :25:44.
Scottish design continues. Here is the weather. Some rain in | :25:45. | :26:02.
the forecast. Today ended up a decent day. We have ended up with | :26:03. | :26:10.
some lovely sunshine. Missed and low clouds becoming extensive across | :26:11. | :26:19.
North Sea costs. By the end of the night heavier and more persistent. | :26:20. | :26:31.
Temperatures will be mostly mild. Tomorrow, a bright start in the | :26:32. | :26:38.
East. That rain over the Western Isles will spread across Western | :26:39. | :26:48.
Scotland. Heavy spells of rain for the hills of Galloway in the | :26:49. | :27:03.
afternoon. Shetland should stay dry. Lewis and Harris should brighten up | :27:04. | :27:14.
by the end of the afternoon. Tomorrow evening the rain continues | :27:15. | :27:22.
to filter eastwards. More wet and windy weather getting into the far | :27:23. | :27:25.
Northwest tomorrow night and it will push right across the country. By | :27:26. | :27:29.
Wigan stay this weather front is going into the North Sea. -- by | :27:30. | :27:39.
Wednesday. The rain will clear and then it is an increasingly bright | :27:40. | :27:43.
picture, a fresher feel than of late however. Thursday, a lot of dry and | :27:44. | :27:53.
bright weather. The winds start to pick up. Wet weather getting into | :27:54. | :27:57.
the North West. Settled and two-week. | :27:58. | :28:04.
That is all for now. I will be back at eight o'clock. | :28:05. | :28:09.
Goodbye. | :28:10. | :28:15. |
