Two people are in critical condition and a further six being treated

in hospital following a fire at a block of flats in Glasgow.

The blaze broke out in a basement flat at Lendel Place

anyone else in there, my friend? Residents fled to safety as the fire

quickly escalated. Get away from there. The fire broke out after

4:10am this morning. Those nearby tried to help. My room is downstairs

and I heard crackling noises. I could hear people shout. I was

looking out of my window. I could hear a big explosion. There was

chaos. People at the end were standing outside waiting to jump

out, five or six of them. The ready from the angle and told them not to

jump out. One resident described a lucky escape. My husband was

upstairs making milk, dialling 999. After two or three minutes there was

already smoke downstairs. It went up within minutes. I was vital that he

was awake otherwise he would have been speaking in the house and I do

not know what would've happened. This morning continued to dampen

down the fire. Eight people were taken to hospital and two are in a

critical condition. Because of the fire is unknown and this afternoon

trading teams arrived to collect evidence. A joint investigation is

In Amsterdam, police have been searching waterways in

their bid to find a 24-year-old man from the Midlothian area, who went

Chris Nelson from Eskbank texted his mother shortly before he set out for

a walk early last Sunday morning, but hasn't been seen since.
