Tonight on Reporting Scotland: Warnings cuts are taking police | :00:08. | :00:10.
officers off the beat and into the back office | :00:11. | :00:21.
Ensuring the best care for people with terminal illnesses - | :00:22. | :00:23.
Restaurants, pubs and the emergency services prepare for the biggest | :00:24. | :00:27.
Black Friday is the best day of the year because people have a good | :00:28. | :00:38.
spirit, a regret mood. from dolphins to hear what's | :00:39. | :00:43.
inside underwater objects. But it is one of the warmest | :00:44. | :00:46.
Decembers in over 100 years. Axing civilian staff | :00:47. | :01:06.
at Police Scotland to save money and switching police officers | :01:07. | :01:10.
from operational to back room roles That's the view of the Inspector of | :01:11. | :01:12.
Constabulary in his annual report. The force is still facing | :01:13. | :01:17.
an overspend of ?25 million this year, but spending watchdogs have | :01:18. | :01:20.
warned that the deficit could more The failure by police to respond for | :01:21. | :01:42.
three days to a road accident was just one of a series of difficulties | :01:43. | :01:45.
faced by the National Force in recent months. Two people died as a | :01:46. | :01:53.
result of the accident. Changes to call handling, including the loss of | :01:54. | :01:57.
civilian posts, following the creation of Police Scotland, have | :01:58. | :02:02.
been blamed for the error. The inspector of Constabulary, in his | :02:03. | :02:04.
annual report, says one effect of the cuts has been police officers | :02:05. | :02:09.
taken off operational roles to fulfil back office duties. The | :02:10. | :02:14.
report is highlighting the risks if that moves on further, there is a | :02:15. | :02:18.
risk that experienced, qualified police staff who add value to | :02:19. | :02:24.
policing will be lost. The report is saying for Police Scotland to look | :02:25. | :02:27.
ahead with the police authority, what kind of policing does it need | :02:28. | :02:32.
and how best to deliver that. Unions say they warned that making civilian | :02:33. | :02:36.
workers the target financial savings would not offer best value for money | :02:37. | :02:43.
and that has correct. The likelihood is that police officers are less | :02:44. | :02:47.
skilled, less trained, they move onto other within. You have a police | :02:48. | :02:52.
workforce who are loyal and they stay with the organisation for the | :02:53. | :02:59.
length of service. New recruits to the police service, but the spending | :03:00. | :03:03.
watchdog says the financial outlook for the force is far from clear and | :03:04. | :03:09.
there could be a funding gap of ?85 million in four years. But the | :03:10. | :03:14.
Scottish Government said this week's budget, giving extra cash to help | :03:15. | :03:18.
reorganisation, would put Police Scotland on a sustainable footing. | :03:19. | :03:20.
The Scottish government has announced a plan to give anyone | :03:21. | :03:23.
with a terminal illness access to specialist care. | :03:24. | :03:25.
The vision's been outlined as part of a ?3.5 million strategy | :03:26. | :03:27.
Saint Margaret of Scotland Hospice in Clydebank provides care with | :03:28. | :03:45.
those with serious illnesses and support for those who are terminally | :03:46. | :03:52.
ill, known as palliative care. Jeff's brother Mike is being cared | :03:53. | :03:57.
for here, and he says it is a vital service. It is the staff and the | :03:58. | :04:02.
facilities and the care. It is absolutely marvellous. If it was a | :04:03. | :04:06.
hotel, you would think it was luxury. It is a blend of single | :04:07. | :04:13.
rooms and multiple occupancy. But the problem is that demand for | :04:14. | :04:17.
palliative care is outstripping supply. There are more people in | :04:18. | :04:22.
need of palliative care than those who receive it. The figure was given | :04:23. | :04:27.
of around 10,000 people who deserve palliative care who are not | :04:28. | :04:32.
currently receiving that. There is huge demand for the kind of | :04:33. | :04:35.
specialist care services offered by hospices like this, but getting | :04:36. | :04:40.
access to these services across Scotland isn't always easy. Now the | :04:41. | :04:43.
Scottish Government has come up with a plan to try and address that. | :04:44. | :04:50.
Today, the Scottish Government announced the aim to give everyone | :04:51. | :04:54.
in Scotland who needs it access to palliative care by 2021. It said | :04:55. | :04:58.
patients would be given the opportunity to make clear their | :04:59. | :05:02.
dying wishes at an early stage. And there will be extra training for NHS | :05:03. | :05:08.
and social care departments. Can this be achieved? Everyone will have | :05:09. | :05:11.
to play a part and five years is not a long time, but it is an ambitious | :05:12. | :05:15.
statement and everybody is willing to put in time and effort to make it | :05:16. | :05:19.
work. It is so important that people do get the palliative care they | :05:20. | :05:23.
need. The Scottish Government wants to start seeing its plans come to | :05:24. | :05:28.
fruition by April next year. It is an ambitious strategy but one which | :05:29. | :05:31.
ministers say they are determined to make happen. | :05:32. | :05:35.
The emergency services are gearing up for one of their busiest nights | :05:36. | :05:37.
of the year in what's become known as Black Friday. | :05:38. | :05:40.
Festive revellers are heading out to parties in towns and cities | :05:41. | :05:43.
across Scotland with just a week to go before Christmas. | :05:44. | :05:45.
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. A piano playing Alf and | :05:46. | :06:06.
a rousing chorus. In Glasgow city centre this afternoon they were | :06:07. | :06:08.
certainly feeling a bit like Christmas. All across the city, | :06:09. | :06:14.
office parties were underway, a very welcome sight for the licensed | :06:15. | :06:21.
trade. This is very busy day. It equates to the sunniest day in | :06:22. | :06:25.
Glasgow that we get. You either have sunshine or Christmas, and those are | :06:26. | :06:28.
the times of year when Glasgow makes money. Black Friday is actually the | :06:29. | :06:35.
best day of the year. It makes you feel part of something you would not | :06:36. | :06:40.
otherwise get on a different day. It is good to catch up, have fun and | :06:41. | :06:46.
enjoy the company. I think the majority of them have made | :06:47. | :06:49.
arrangements. I have, my mum is coming to get me. My fiance is | :06:50. | :06:56.
coming to pick me up so I don't need a taxi. In Dunfermline, a safe haven | :06:57. | :07:02.
has been set for those who have over consumed, got or hurt themselves, an | :07:03. | :07:06.
idea adopted in many towns and cities and it seems to be working. | :07:07. | :07:12.
We see a reduction in calls to emergency services, who are already | :07:13. | :07:15.
facing high demand at this time of year. We see a reduction of | :07:16. | :07:22.
admissions to Accident Emergency. Sometimes we forget that it can | :07:23. | :07:25.
apply to us, things can happen to us. So we tried to remind people to | :07:26. | :07:29.
look after themselves and their friends. Inevitably, alcohol can | :07:30. | :07:35.
fuel violence, and while the increased numbers of police on the | :07:36. | :07:40.
streets tonight are briefed to lend a helping hand, they will also look | :07:41. | :07:44.
out for those who can spoil a good night out for others. If people are | :07:45. | :07:50.
over the top, let's get early intervention, get them warned and | :07:51. | :07:57.
home. The message from the police is, a little bit of preplanning can | :07:58. | :08:02.
ensure that the day finishes as well as it began. | :08:03. | :08:08.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. | :08:09. | :08:10.
Still to come on tonight's programme: | :08:11. | :08:11.
The video light show projection where people | :08:12. | :08:13.
tell their life stories but they're not allowed to speak. | :08:14. | :08:17.
The Premeirship's top scorer signs a new long-term deal. | :08:18. | :08:21.
I'll also tell you about the new manager of St Mirren. | :08:22. | :08:24.
And how a Celtic great is being honoured. | :08:25. | :08:35.
The last remaining Church of Scotland school in the world | :08:36. | :08:37.
What makes it even more unusual is that it teaches Christian, | :08:38. | :08:41.
Muslim and Jewish children together in an attempt to create | :08:42. | :08:44.
an environment of tolerance, despite the tensions. | :08:45. | :08:47.
Fiona Walker has been to Israel to find out why the Church | :08:48. | :08:50.
of Scotland is running a school in the Holy Land. | :08:51. | :09:00.
Amongst the religious conflict in the Middle East, something of a | :09:01. | :09:08.
surprise. It is nativity rehearsal time at Tabeetha School in Jaffa. | :09:09. | :09:14.
The Nativity is a Christian tradition but about a Jewish family. | :09:15. | :09:19.
And Joseph is being played by a pupil who is muscle. -- Muslim. In | :09:20. | :09:31.
the grade six Hebrew class, it is the turn of a Muslim boy to light | :09:32. | :09:39.
the candle in the Jewish festival. Learning about different faiths | :09:40. | :09:42.
helps children understand each other. We are all friends here. I am | :09:43. | :09:49.
Christian, he is Muslim, she is Jewish. We connect as friends. The | :09:50. | :09:59.
state of Israel can be including all sorts of people. And it can be | :10:00. | :10:03.
beautiful, as it is in this class, in this school. That sums up what we | :10:04. | :10:10.
are told about the ethos of the school. Whereas pupils in Israeli | :10:11. | :10:15.
state schools are mostly taught separately, here, the Church of | :10:16. | :10:17.
Scotland is bringing people together. This is a great four | :10:18. | :10:24.
class, but it is not just a classroom. We are underground, and | :10:25. | :10:29.
this is a bomb shelter. The children have to be able to get in here | :10:30. | :10:33.
within 90 seconds of a siren going off, which gives you the context in | :10:34. | :10:37.
which the pupils are living. In fact, this school was set up by a | :10:38. | :10:41.
Scottish woman before the Middle East problems we know of today. What | :10:42. | :10:45.
on earth is the Church of Scotland doing running a school in Israel? | :10:46. | :10:51.
With Tabeetha School in particular, because it was given to us in a | :10:52. | :10:54.
will, we felt an obligation to continue to look after that. Also, | :10:55. | :10:59.
because we are in the holy land, there is a sense of needing to keep | :11:00. | :11:02.
a presence and we felt it was important as a church at the time | :11:03. | :11:07.
when we were giving other properties away, to keep hold of Tabeetha. Too | :11:08. | :11:15.
young to fully understand the politics, these children sing jingle | :11:16. | :11:21.
Bells in Arabic before home time. Home, to have their life in a | :11:22. | :11:24.
divided land they call the holy land. | :11:25. | :11:40.
West Dunbartonshire schools could be hit by a strike in the New Year. | :11:41. | :11:45.
Members have voted for industrial action in a dispute over a | :11:46. | :11:49.
management shake-up in secondary schools. BBC Scotland understands a | :11:50. | :11:53.
one-day strike followed by a work-to-rule will be considered. | :11:54. | :11:58.
Further consultations are to be held on three of the largest of the | :11:59. | :12:02.
Scottish Government's planned marine protection areas, covering the small | :12:03. | :12:09.
Isles, Western Ross, forming part of a proposed network of 30 protected | :12:10. | :12:13.
areas. Some fishermen and communities have concerns about | :12:14. | :12:17.
their effect on fishing. Orkney has retained its title as the | :12:18. | :12:24.
best place to live in Scotland. The 2015 Bank of Scotland | :12:25. | :12:26.
quality-of-life survey placed Shetland second and the Western | :12:27. | :12:30.
Isles third. Orkney secured the top spot for the third year running, | :12:31. | :12:34.
scoring highly in categories of health, employment, low crime rates | :12:35. | :12:38.
and good weather. Air France has announced a new daily | :12:39. | :12:42.
air service between Glasgow and Paris. The morning flights will | :12:43. | :12:53.
begin at the end of next March. Apia on Marl should be taken into | :12:54. | :12:57.
community ownership according to the Council, who want a buyout for the | :12:58. | :13:01.
community. They claim would benefit the island if it was run locally. We | :13:02. | :13:07.
are asking the council to employ a consultant to come and do a full | :13:08. | :13:12.
review from one end to the other, to see how the limited space could be | :13:13. | :13:13.
properly utilised. Now to the technological | :13:14. | :13:20.
breakthrough that's been millions Researchers at Heriot-Watt | :13:21. | :13:22.
university have developed a new type of sonar detector | :13:23. | :13:25.
by copying dolphins. They look great, but it is the sound | :13:26. | :13:42.
that bottlenose dolphins make that has excited scientists. They are | :13:43. | :13:47.
fantastic. They have sonar that has evolved over millions of years and | :13:48. | :13:50.
it is completely unsurpassed. They can tell the difference between | :13:51. | :13:56.
containers that hold fresh water, salt water, syrup and oil from ten | :13:57. | :14:03.
metres, which we thought we wanted to be able to do. This is the | :14:04. | :14:09.
result. This is our sonar, the thing that allows us to do things that | :14:10. | :14:17.
dolphins do. The pack will be carried by one of Heriot-Watt's | :14:18. | :14:20.
underwater robots, which looks like a torpedo that will sound like a | :14:21. | :14:26.
dolphin. We looked at the signals they use and we did an analysis of | :14:27. | :14:30.
them and figured out some things that other people had not seen about | :14:31. | :14:35.
those signals, and used those to create artificial signals we would | :14:36. | :14:39.
want to use. Then we got the difficult bit, which was actually | :14:40. | :14:44.
getting a that would produce those and we could process them. Now, a | :14:45. | :14:50.
university spin out company sees opportunities worldwide, starting | :14:51. | :14:55.
with the North Sea. From inspection of the sea bed, making sure you put | :14:56. | :14:58.
infrastructure in the right place, safely and securely. Post | :14:59. | :15:04.
installation, you need to monitor structures, and that is an | :15:05. | :15:09.
increasing issue for the oil and gas industry, decommissioning, when | :15:10. | :15:11.
something gets to the end of its useful life, how do you dismantle it | :15:12. | :15:15.
and make sure anything that is left is safe and not detrimental to the | :15:16. | :15:21.
environment. The development is supported by a grant from the | :15:22. | :15:25.
Scottish innovation Centre for sensor and imaging systems. We have | :15:26. | :15:31.
identified 90 research groups across institutions in that specialise in | :15:32. | :15:34.
sensor technology in some way or form, and that is a tremendous | :15:35. | :15:39.
resource to draw on. It could mean better and cheaper ways of finding | :15:40. | :15:43.
everything from undersea cables to miss placed minds. | :15:44. | :15:48.
Now here's a piece of art with a difference. | :15:49. | :15:50.
It begins with the National Theatre of Scotland putting on a video light | :15:51. | :15:53.
show and projecting it on to windows around Aberdeen. | :15:54. | :15:55.
The videos feature people describing their lives, | :15:56. | :15:57.
John McManus is at Aberdeen's Maritime Museum to tell us more. | :15:58. | :16:07.
The season where we surround ourselves with as much light | :16:08. | :16:11.
This is one light show with a difference. | :16:12. | :16:19.
Across Aberdeen this weekend, 60 windows in 11 city locations | :16:20. | :16:24.
all blazed into light with portraits of normal people. | :16:25. | :16:29.
They will describe their lives but without using words. | :16:30. | :16:32.
It was a challenge for the participants. | :16:33. | :16:36.
It was really quite difficult to try and portray my | :16:37. | :16:39.
I chose what meant a lot to me, family, friends and relationships. | :16:40. | :16:44.
I did a lot of holding hands for togetherness. | :16:45. | :16:56.
Having lived away, I returned to Aberdeen and the first thing that | :16:57. | :17:01.
came to mind was the football club. I was wearing a red tie, side to get | :17:02. | :17:03.
off and waved it above my head. The man behind the idea said most | :17:04. | :17:06.
people with a smartphone do This is almost like the ultimate | :17:07. | :17:09.
selfie in a way. I enjoy looking at people. It is not | :17:10. | :17:24.
long we get a chance to gaze at people and this allows that to | :17:25. | :17:29.
happen. More than 100 people took part and it is part of a celebration | :17:30. | :17:32.
that will include other live performances until March. If that is | :17:33. | :17:41.
not enough for you, there are dance performances tomorrow afternoon, all | :17:42. | :17:43.
building up to a theatrical performance in March when members of | :17:44. | :17:47.
the public will join professional actors to tell the stories of | :17:48. | :17:51.
Aberdeen. But this weekend, if you are out and about, loaded down with | :17:52. | :17:55.
Christmas shopping, take a moment to look up and see these video | :17:56. | :17:57.
portraits. Let's get all the weekend sport now, | :17:58. | :18:03.
from David. This season's leading Premiership | :18:04. | :18:10.
goal scorer has signed a new long Leigh Griffiths agreeing to stay | :18:11. | :18:13.
at Celtic till 2021. The lengthy | :18:14. | :18:17.
new deal comes as a reward for a striker who says | :18:18. | :18:19.
he has turned his life around in the past year, | :18:20. | :18:22.
as Jonathan Sutherland reports. He has gone from Burley getting a | :18:23. | :18:37.
game to Celtic goal-scoring hero. Leigh Griffiths has pledged his | :18:38. | :18:39.
future to Celtic until 2021. His aim is to bring Champions League | :18:40. | :18:43.
football to Celtic Park. I want to win a lot of trophies but most | :18:44. | :18:46.
importantly I want to play the Champions League. Having not played | :18:47. | :18:52.
there before, that is what the boys weren't. I have played there before | :18:53. | :19:00.
on Champions League nights. Of the old issues have built his career. In | :19:01. | :19:06.
September he was fined and handed a two match ban after admitting | :19:07. | :19:09.
singing an offensive song about a former Hearts player. Initially he | :19:10. | :19:15.
struggled to get a place in the side. After tweaking his game and | :19:16. | :19:22.
his lifestyle he has made himself Celtic's number one striker, scoring | :19:23. | :19:28.
35 goals in 50 games. Beforehand, doing daft stuff of the field and I | :19:29. | :19:33.
have clients in down which I had to because I was almost that the exit | :19:34. | :19:39.
door. After I sat down with the manager and spoke to him about how | :19:40. | :19:43.
he wanted me to change it hit home how big a club this is and how much | :19:44. | :19:47.
I did not want to leave. This was his first goal of 2015 and his last | :19:48. | :19:55.
against Inverness. He will miss out tomorrow due to a calf injury but | :19:56. | :19:58.
over the next five years expect plenty more of those. | :19:59. | :20:02.
Now, a Scotland favourite from not so long ago is back | :20:03. | :20:05.
in the Premiership at least until the end of next month. | :20:06. | :20:07.
James McFadden signing for Motherwell for the third time. | :20:08. | :20:11.
He scored 42 goals for them in his previous two stints | :20:12. | :20:13.
The 32-year-old was released by St Johnstone at the end of last | :20:14. | :20:18.
season and spent some time in America. | :20:19. | :20:21.
He's signed a contract until the end of January. | :20:22. | :20:24.
He's Alex Rae, who was in charge of Dundee from 2006 to 2008. | :20:25. | :20:33.
Rae has agreed an 18 month contract with the Buddies who, | :20:34. | :20:36.
after being relegated from the Premiership last season, | :20:37. | :20:38.
are third bottom of the Championship. | :20:39. | :20:40.
His first match in charge is against bottom club | :20:41. | :20:42.
Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend says his side | :20:43. | :20:50.
will most likely have to win three of their remaining four pool matches | :20:51. | :20:54.
to qualify for the quarter finals of the European Champions Cup. | :20:55. | :20:57.
Warriors, who are third in pool three with one win in two games, | :20:58. | :21:02.
left Scotland today for tomorrow's match against Scarlets in Wales. | :21:03. | :21:04.
Just six days after thrashing Scarlets 43-6 in Glasgow. | :21:05. | :21:08.
Warriors Scarlets will be a lot stronger this week with a few | :21:09. | :21:18.
players coming back in. They will be hurting. You do not enjoy getting | :21:19. | :21:26.
beat by 40 points. We have a lot of tough games down now. Two years ago | :21:27. | :21:32.
we got a bit of a hammering at the end of the season. That is going to | :21:33. | :21:33.
be tough. Finally from me, one of the greats | :21:34. | :21:36.
of Scottish football will be Billy McNeill and his family | :21:37. | :21:39.
will there to see a statue in his honour unveiled before | :21:40. | :21:43.
tomorrow's match against Motherwell. McNeill captained the Lisbon Lions | :21:44. | :21:45.
to their famous European Cup final He also won nine league titles | :21:46. | :21:48.
before two spells as manager. He led by example on the field and | :21:49. | :22:05.
spoke the language of the dressing room, the pitch, and the language | :22:06. | :22:10.
that made him look like an Ambassador of the field where he was | :22:11. | :22:16.
able to represent the club in an eloquent and clean cut way. We all | :22:17. | :22:20.
respected him, particularly the manager Jock Stein. One day there | :22:21. | :22:23.
will be a statue of you, Sally. With just a week to go, | :22:24. | :22:29.
weather forecasters say there's not In fact Scotland, like the rest | :22:30. | :22:31.
of the UK, is experiencing Lisa Summers, yes, that's her real | :22:32. | :22:35.
name, has been finding out how people have been coping with | :22:36. | :22:40.
the unusually high temperatures. It is a week until Christmas and | :22:41. | :22:51.
naturally the grass needs cutting. The daisies think it is the height | :22:52. | :22:56.
of summer. Plenty of other beautiful blooms have forgotten it is time to | :22:57. | :23:01.
die back. It is confusing. This plant behind me, we would have | :23:02. | :23:05.
expected it in September or October. Winter flowering plants are | :23:06. | :23:11.
flowering remarkably well because we have not had frost. At the Christmas | :23:12. | :23:18.
market temperatures into double figures are making the romantic | :23:19. | :23:21.
notion of skating in the park a bit of a damp squib. We have to keep a | :23:22. | :23:26.
closer eye on how the ice is being maintained. Generally we keep the | :23:27. | :23:30.
ball on a 24 hours a day to make sure you can skate. For some | :23:31. | :23:36.
tourists it was not the weather they were expecting. I hope it is going | :23:37. | :23:39.
to be called because we were hoping for snow. For others the winter | :23:40. | :23:44.
wonderland scene is quite convenient. You can stay out longer. | :23:45. | :23:54.
You can go on the rides better. You do not have to go in the freezing | :23:55. | :23:59.
cold anymore. It was barbecue weather for BBC Radio 5 live and in | :24:00. | :24:04.
Aberdeen. In the Highlands, avalanche warnings due to the | :24:05. | :24:08.
tropical conditions. It is we're both the seasonal norm but the | :24:09. | :24:12.
record December temperature goes back to 1948 at 18.3 degrees. | :24:13. | :24:19.
Elsewhere in Scotland, Santa was blown in early. But all of this mild | :24:20. | :24:23.
and unseasonable weather you might be forgiven for thinking you are | :24:24. | :24:27.
someone else. That would just be wishful thinking. | :24:28. | :24:37.
What is happening at the weekend? It is very mild, into the teens. It was | :24:38. | :24:46.
very mild across the country today. Pretty cloudy and certainly wet at | :24:47. | :24:53.
times. Big puddles on the road. Staying cloudy, damp and breezy. We | :24:54. | :25:02.
have a Met Office yellow warning for Argyll and Dumfries Galloway, | :25:03. | :25:06.
persistent rain falling on saturated ground. Another band of rain arrives | :25:07. | :25:10.
during the early hours and it will be breezy from the south especially | :25:11. | :25:15.
around the coastline and my old with our work masters ember night on | :25:16. | :25:21.
record -- potentially record-breaking December night in | :25:22. | :25:25.
terms of temperature. Quite breezy from the south south west but the | :25:26. | :25:29.
rain tends to clear through so by mid-morning something more cheerful. | :25:30. | :25:33.
Those winds helping to break up the cloud through the central belt | :25:34. | :25:36.
towards East Lothian, some sunshine coming through. By mid-afternoon, | :25:37. | :25:43.
fairly cloudy for many out with those brighter spells. Temperatures | :25:44. | :25:49.
13, 14, 15. A number of job is through the Highlands in general and | :25:50. | :25:55.
parts of Argyll. Winds helping to break up the cloud. Northern | :25:56. | :25:59.
Aberdeenshire some sunshine coming through, maybe even 16 degrees, | :26:00. | :26:02.
still of the 18 degrees record. Pretty mild. The winds will be | :26:03. | :26:10.
feature if you are hill walking or climbing. Some bright spells but | :26:11. | :26:15.
also some showers, some rain and fog across the Galloway hills. Eastern | :26:16. | :26:20.
ranges will be wet to start with something brighter coming through. | :26:21. | :26:30.
It is a south south-westerly. Rough seas and moderate his ability. Some | :26:31. | :26:33.
brightness but fairly frequent showers. Hopefully some brightness | :26:34. | :26:45.
through the course of the afternoon. Into the evening staying cloudy damp | :26:46. | :26:49.
and breezy from the south. Some rain pushing and words the central belt | :26:50. | :26:55.
overnight. Sunday, a fairly disturbed weather pattern. Quite | :26:56. | :27:01.
breezy, cloudy, damp, mild but not as mild. A number of showers around | :27:02. | :27:06.
on Sunday. Some brightness out with them. Temperature starting to come | :27:07. | :27:10.
down again but still nine or 10 Celsius for most. | :27:11. | :27:14.
Now, a reminder of tonight's main news. | :27:15. | :27:16.
Miners at the UK's last remaining deep pit worked | :27:17. | :27:18.
The closure of Kellingley Colliery in Yorkshire marks an end | :27:19. | :27:25.
to centuries of deep-coal mining in Britain. | :27:26. | :27:26.
Axing civilian staff at Police Scotland and switching | :27:27. | :27:28.
police officers to backroom roles to save money is not sustainable, | :27:29. | :27:31.
according to the Inspector of Constabulary's annual report. | :27:32. | :27:34.
I'll be back with the headlines at 8pm and the late bulletin just | :27:35. | :27:39.
Until then, from everyone on the team, right across | :27:40. | :27:42.
the country, have a very good evening. | :27:43. | :27:46. |
