That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me, | :00:00. | :00:00.
and on BBC One we now join the BBC's news teams where you are. | :00:00. | :00:08.
The Forth Road Bridge will re-open to all vehicles except heavy lorries | :00:09. | :00:15.
tomorrow morning, after repairs are completed ahead of schedule. | :00:16. | :00:17.
One year on from the Glasgow bin lorry crash which killed six people | :00:18. | :00:20.
- friends, family and survivors remember. | :00:21. | :00:35.
It's been a really hard year and we think about it every day. | :00:36. | :00:39.
Also on the programme, A record fine for oil firm Total | :00:40. | :00:41.
for one of the biggest ever gas leaks in the North Sea. | :00:42. | :00:44.
Strike on the sleeper between Scotland and London | :00:45. | :00:46.
in a dispute over repairs to defects on trains. | :00:47. | :00:49.
And, we follow the controversial Beauly-Denny power line | :00:50. | :00:51.
The six people who died in the Glasgow bin lorry crash one | :00:52. | :01:16.
year ago have been remembered at a special service | :01:17. | :01:19.
Candles were lit for the victims, and tributes paid to all those | :01:20. | :01:22.
who were injured and the emergency services who went to their aid. | :01:23. | :01:25.
Those injured that day, those who help them, and those who witnessed | :01:26. | :01:38.
it first hand, including the crew travelling in the back of the bin | :01:39. | :01:42.
lorry, came together to remember and reflect. This ecumenical service | :01:43. | :01:51.
allows the opportunity for us all in our great city to stand in | :01:52. | :01:56.
solidarity with one another and express our support for all those | :01:57. | :02:06.
affected by what happened. Six people died that day and this worst | :02:07. | :02:11.
anniversary was always going to be a very difficult time for their | :02:12. | :02:16.
families. Seats were kept for relatives and friends but perhaps | :02:17. | :02:21.
such a large public occasion was too much for the bereaved to beer after | :02:22. | :02:32.
many difficult days. Everybody who died was remembered as candles were | :02:33. | :02:35.
laid, each one carried by a relative or friend. Lorraine Sweeney, | :02:36. | :02:53.
Jacquelyn Martin. The First Minister gave a reading. The souls of the | :02:54. | :02:56.
righteous are in the hands of God and no torment will ever touch them. | :02:57. | :03:02.
The Episcopal Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway admitted it was hard to | :03:03. | :03:07.
find the right words when only the people involved can know what it is | :03:08. | :03:12.
like. What happened in Glasgow a year ago was an accident, we now | :03:13. | :03:19.
know an accident waiting to happen, but still an accident, pointless, | :03:20. | :03:24.
meaningless, the consequence of human folly and irresponsibility. | :03:25. | :03:33.
During the service, tribute was paid to the emergency services and those | :03:34. | :03:37.
passers by who went to help. The closing prayer was led by the | :03:38. | :03:43.
Archbishop of Glasgow. Give us the strength of compassion that we may | :03:44. | :03:47.
never shield our and hearts from pain but seek to heal and bless. | :03:48. | :03:55.
Well, in George Square itself, the festive attractions fell silent | :03:56. | :03:58.
to mark the anniversary of the accident. | :03:59. | :03:59.
For the families of those killed - and for those who survived - | :04:00. | :04:02.
it's been a year of coming to terms with what happened. | :04:03. | :04:05.
But there's concern too, that lessons haven't been learned. | :04:06. | :04:07.
The Christmas funfair in George Square was stopped as a mark of | :04:08. | :04:20.
respect for the time this afternoon. Bin lorries were kept away from the | :04:21. | :04:27.
area where the accident happened. At Queen Street station staff stopped | :04:28. | :04:33.
at 2:29pm. The very moment when the Law Review at -- Lorry veered out of | :04:34. | :04:43.
control. In just 19 seconds it went into the wall of the millennium | :04:44. | :04:46.
Hotel, taking the lives of six people and injuring many others. The | :04:47. | :04:54.
driver, Harry Clarke, was slumped at the wheel. A Fatal Accident Inquiry | :04:55. | :04:58.
was held. He was not prosecuted. Some of those who lost loved ones | :04:59. | :05:04.
felt let down. This family were in town with their daughter. They went | :05:05. | :05:10.
to the church service to remember. I met Alex after work, we were going | :05:11. | :05:13.
to go to Princes Square for lunch. We were going to go to George Square | :05:14. | :05:19.
to let Bethany see the reindeer. The next minute, catastrophe happened. I | :05:20. | :05:26.
lifted the buggy and threw it with Bethany in it to get her out of the | :05:27. | :05:32.
way. I dived to the side myself. Just no time at all. They are | :05:33. | :05:41.
grateful to be alive. Just how lucky we are to be here. I feel for the | :05:42. | :05:46.
people. Especially with the outcome. You feel as if there has not been | :05:47. | :05:52.
any justice done. At the time, the city pulled | :05:53. | :05:56.
together. Royal exchange Square became a sea of flowers. People came | :05:57. | :06:02.
back to quietly and respectfully remember those affected by the | :06:03. | :06:03.
tragedy. Catriona, today's been | :06:04. | :06:11.
about remembering those who died, but aside from that, | :06:12. | :06:12.
there is a frustration isn't there that we're one year | :06:13. | :06:15.
on and those involved in this There is a growing number of floral | :06:16. | :06:25.
tributes being brought here this evening and of course this time last | :06:26. | :06:29.
year it was only just beginning to emerge, the extent of the tragedy. | :06:30. | :06:35.
This has been a year of legal process. First, the Crown decided | :06:36. | :06:40.
not to prosecute anybody, then there was the Fatal Accident Inquiry would | :06:41. | :06:45.
that lasted five weeks. In that, it became clear that Harry Clarke had | :06:46. | :06:48.
lied on forms to his employers and the DVLA about his history of | :06:49. | :06:55.
medical blackouts. The sheriff made recommendations earlier this month | :06:56. | :07:01.
that the UK Government should consider looking into making changes | :07:02. | :07:07.
in the law and increasing penalties for people who failed to disclose | :07:08. | :07:10.
information. But there has been criticism of the decision not to | :07:11. | :07:14.
prosecute. They maintain there is not the evidence to do this but it | :07:15. | :07:19.
has not stopped some of the families taking the very unusual step of | :07:20. | :07:23.
pursuing a private prosecution. We wait for more news on what will | :07:24. | :07:25.
happen with that. The Forth Road Bridge will reopen | :07:26. | :07:29.
to all vehicles except HGVs tomorrow morning - almost a fortnight | :07:30. | :07:32.
earlier than expected. Traffic will be allowed back | :07:33. | :07:34.
on the crossing from 6am. The bridge was closed completely | :07:35. | :07:36.
early this month after a crack Let's go now to Lisa Summers, | :07:37. | :07:38.
who's at the bridge - and relief there on both sides | :07:39. | :07:43.
of the Firth? Absolutely. This has been a tale of | :07:44. | :07:54.
three bridges, one that is still to be built, the one that remains | :07:55. | :07:58.
closed, and the rail bridge which has been taking the strain. There is | :07:59. | :08:03.
a great deal of the light on both sides of the Firth of Forth this | :08:04. | :08:11.
evening. -- deal of delight. 90% of the vehicles will be able to cross. | :08:12. | :08:17.
Some serious questions from lorry drivers as to why they were led to | :08:18. | :08:21.
believe they would be able to use the bridge from the start of the New | :08:22. | :08:24.
Year but will need to put up with the disruption for another six | :08:25. | :08:31.
weeks. Vehicles continue to take workers out to the side of this part | :08:32. | :08:35.
of the North Tower of the Forth Road Bridge. It was detected in a routine | :08:36. | :08:39.
inspection but it resulted in the closure of the bridge completely to | :08:40. | :08:43.
traffic in an unprecedented situation. We are told that work on | :08:44. | :08:49.
a temporary solution has been completed and from tomorrow morning, | :08:50. | :08:53.
90% of the traffic will be led back on the bridge. This morning the | :08:54. | :08:59.
Transport Minister and bridge operator announced it could open | :09:00. | :09:04.
safely but it would be February for a stronger, permanent solution could | :09:05. | :09:12.
be found to allow HD fees to cross. This could not be allowed, this | :09:13. | :09:17.
solution if HGVs were given free passage. The design is anticipated | :09:18. | :09:26.
to be finished in the beginning of January, it will move on to the side | :09:27. | :09:32.
and we are anticipating in the middle of February to have that in | :09:33. | :09:38.
place. It is good news for regular commuters but some hauliers have | :09:39. | :09:43.
expressed frustration that it will continue for them. They are very | :09:44. | :09:50.
keen that we get access for them. I'm very certain HGVs will be across | :09:51. | :09:55.
the Forth Road Bridge early next year. A full inspection is almost | :09:56. | :10:00.
complete. The main work will be complete next year. The hauliers say | :10:01. | :10:07.
they are dismayed because they say it will cost them ?40 million | :10:08. | :10:12.
because of the closure. The Transport Minister says they will | :10:13. | :10:16.
work with them to provide support. You can see behind me there is still | :10:17. | :10:21.
work going on this evening. An inspection of the bridge which has | :10:22. | :10:25.
been carried out, 90% of that is complete and will go on into | :10:26. | :10:29.
January. In order to carry out those permanent repairs it will mean some | :10:30. | :10:34.
disruption. Most of those disruptions will be put in place | :10:35. | :10:41.
overnight. Engineers say they will put in place state-of-the-art | :10:42. | :10:43.
equipment to monitor the movement of the bridge in future. | :10:44. | :10:47.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. | :10:48. | :10:49.
Still to come on tonight's programme: | :10:50. | :10:53.
We take to the skies once more at to follow the power line on its long | :10:54. | :11:02.
march to the south past some of Scotland's's most iconic landmarks. | :11:03. | :11:04.
The Celtic skipper Scott Brown claims has side can go unbeaten til | :11:05. | :11:07.
And it's Glasgow against Edinburgh in the 1872 cup. | :11:08. | :11:13.
We ask where rugby's big crunch matches can be won and lost. | :11:14. | :11:19.
The French oil company Total has been fined more than a million | :11:20. | :11:22.
pounds after admitting to failings that caused one of the biggest ever | :11:23. | :11:25.
Gas leaked from the Elgin Platform for 51 days after the incident | :11:26. | :11:31.
Aberdeen Sheriff court heard workers ran fearing for their lives. | :11:32. | :11:37.
No one was injured - but the leak led to the shutdown | :11:38. | :11:40.
and abandonment of the platform until it was stopped. | :11:41. | :11:42.
It was the biggest uncontrolled leak of gas from a North Sea platform | :11:43. | :11:57.
since records started in 1992. When the blow out was discovered the | :11:58. | :12:02.
workers nearest ran for their lives. Surrounding installations were | :12:03. | :12:06.
evacuated. It would be 51 days before the leak was stopped. After | :12:07. | :12:12.
sentencing today, executives accepted the record fine. The | :12:13. | :12:19.
company regrets the gas leak and act sets the fine that was handed down. | :12:20. | :12:27.
They carried out their own investigation to identify the causes | :12:28. | :12:29.
of the incident and to discover what can be done to prevent similar ones | :12:30. | :12:41.
in the future. Total new the well involved was unstable and had been | :12:42. | :12:47.
working to kill it when the blow out happened in March 2000 12. The | :12:48. | :12:54.
hundreds of workers were lucky the weather conditions prevented an | :12:55. | :12:58.
explosion -- March 2000 12. Neill has worked as a safety | :12:59. | :13:03.
representative and has decided to speak out about his concerns over | :13:04. | :13:12.
what happened. The danger is we are back to the old days. But for the | :13:13. | :13:18.
grace of God, this could have been a disaster. Was nothing they did that | :13:19. | :13:24.
could have stopped this being a disaster. The Health and Safety | :13:25. | :13:29.
Executive described it as preventable and foreseeable and it | :13:30. | :13:36.
could have led to a lot of life. This is the biggest fine ever handed | :13:37. | :13:39.
down to a gas operator in the North Sea. The judge said she believed | :13:40. | :13:44.
there was no plan B for a leak. There's a possible buyer for two | :13:45. | :13:46.
closure-threatened steel plants in Lanarkshire but it is unclear | :13:47. | :13:48.
if any deal would actually Tata Steel is in talks to sell | :13:49. | :13:51.
the part of its business which makes plates and rods to the venture | :13:52. | :13:55.
capital firm, Greybull Capital. That business includes the Dalzell | :13:56. | :13:58.
and Clydebridge plants which are to be mothballed | :13:59. | :14:01.
with the loss of 270 jobs. But unions say the would-be buyer's | :14:02. | :14:04.
plan does not include In the last few minutes, | :14:05. | :14:07.
workers on the sleeper service between Scotland and London have | :14:08. | :14:14.
started a 48-hour strike in a dispute over repairs | :14:15. | :14:16.
to defects on trains. Talks last night between | :14:17. | :14:19.
the operator Serco and the RMT union From Inverness, Jackie O'Brien | :14:20. | :14:23.
reports. The last sleeper train before | :14:24. | :14:39.
Christmas arrived on time this morning but there was little festive | :14:40. | :14:52.
cheer. It will be sad to see it go but the staff have got a point. Is | :14:53. | :14:57.
it a bit of a state, the whole arrangement? I use it everyday, it | :14:58. | :15:09.
saves on my carbon footprint. We are not just serving customers coming to | :15:10. | :15:12.
the Highlands but also local communities. The RMT claims the | :15:13. | :15:22.
Caledonian sleeper operators have field to fix a list of defects on | :15:23. | :15:28.
trains. The trains are running around with | :15:29. | :15:44.
the firearms disconnected. They are running night after night. The | :15:45. | :15:52.
franchise was awarded in March. The company has plans to replace the | :15:53. | :15:55.
ageing rolling stock with new state-of-the-art trains but says it | :15:56. | :15:59.
is already addressing the repairs at the centre of the dispute. The | :16:00. | :16:05.
strike which starts tonight will affect all trains between Scotland | :16:06. | :16:09.
and London. It could not have come at a busy time for the company, | :16:10. | :16:13.
which has had to refund passengers and put on extra seated trains | :16:14. | :16:19.
between Euston and Glasgow. The services are due to resume on Sunday | :16:20. | :16:25.
but the union is already warning of further action. | :16:26. | :16:30.
80 Aberdeen residents have returned to their homes after being forced | :16:31. | :16:32.
to leave because of a huge fire at a nearby garage. | :16:33. | :16:35.
A small number of people were treated for smoke inhalation | :16:36. | :16:39.
following the blaze at Arnold Clarke in Torry early this morning. | :16:40. | :16:43.
Residents were put up at a local community centre as around 50 | :16:44. | :16:46.
It carries enough power for a city one-and-a-half times | :16:47. | :16:52.
But the Beauly Denny power line - which is now fully on stream - | :16:53. | :16:59.
The debate about its cost, both to consumers and the landscape, | :17:00. | :17:03.
In his second report, our environment correspondent, | :17:04. | :17:06.
David Miller, follows the southern section of the line by helicopter | :17:07. | :17:09.
We are about to leave the highlands behind us, heading for the central | :17:10. | :17:23.
belt. Mile after mile of power line still lies ahead. The landscape | :17:24. | :17:29.
beneath us is changing now as we head further south towards | :17:30. | :17:33.
Scotland's industrial heart and the millions of consumers this line was | :17:34. | :17:39.
built to serve. But, it would be a mistake to think the construction of | :17:40. | :17:43.
the power line has been any less controversial here. Local | :17:44. | :17:49.
campaigners share the concerns of objectors in the north. When you put | :17:50. | :17:53.
really large man made structures, steel, large standing up high, into | :17:54. | :17:58.
a landscape like this, it takes away a degree of the naturalness, the | :17:59. | :18:04.
beauty, the quietness, the feeling of timelessness, of peace, | :18:05. | :18:08.
tranquillity that you get here. This is an area of great landscape value | :18:09. | :18:14.
and I think the - everybody says that has seen it, that I've met, has | :18:15. | :18:19.
said they're shocked at the impact it's made on the visual qualities of | :18:20. | :18:24.
the area. From the air it's easy to pick out the pylons as they march | :18:25. | :18:29.
towards the Wallace Monument and Sterling Castle. We're just aify | :18:30. | :18:34.
miles now from the sprawling new sub station at Denny. In the damp winter | :18:35. | :18:39.
air, it literally crackles with energy. Well, it's a critical | :18:40. | :18:46.
location... Bosses say this project is helping to keep the lights on in | :18:47. | :18:50.
the towns and cities of central Scotland. Beauly Denny will increase | :18:51. | :18:55.
the ability to transfer power from north to south by about 1,200 mega | :18:56. | :19:01.
watts. To put a sense of scale on that. That's the equivalent of the | :19:02. | :19:07.
power usage of 600,000 homes. Those who worked on the lines said | :19:08. | :19:10.
protecting the environment was a top priority. You've got towers where | :19:11. | :19:23.
there are nesting birds. We have waited for nesting birds to go aaway | :19:24. | :19:27.
and prevent them from building the nests. The project has been | :19:28. | :19:30.
controversial, it won't be the last. Changes to the way we generate our | :19:31. | :19:34.
electricity will require other griddup grades in the years ahead. | :19:35. | :19:39.
We've learnt, powering Scotland isn't easy or cheap, but it's always | :19:40. | :19:42.
controversial. Thank you very much, Jackie. Good | :19:43. | :19:46.
evening to you. The Celtic captain believes they can | :19:47. | :19:53.
go unbeaten for the rest That's despite the fact the haven't | :19:54. | :19:55.
won a home game since the end of October. | :19:56. | :20:00.
Scott Brown has reacted to press criticism of manager Ronny Deila | :20:01. | :20:02.
by backing the Norwegian, with one former Celtic player | :20:03. | :20:04.
agreeing Deila deserves time. Scott Brown making a donation of | :20:05. | :20:18.
?5,000 from the proceeds of his book. It's a cause close to his | :20:19. | :20:24.
heart as is his beloved Celtic, who are still licking their wounds after | :20:25. | :20:27.
defeat at the weekend. It was one result. One result means nothing. We | :20:28. | :20:31.
have had loads of results with me and other people in the team without | :20:32. | :20:35.
them. It's not about missing one or two people, it's all about the team. | :20:36. | :20:38.
That team in that dressing room is good enough to go on and, we could | :20:39. | :20:42.
go the rest of the season without getting beat again. We have the | :20:43. | :20:45.
belief and the manager instilled that us in. The manager has been the | :20:46. | :20:50.
subject of much criticism, including some from supporters groups and | :20:51. | :20:54.
former players, has this been harsh on his boss? He has done a good job | :20:55. | :21:00.
for me last season. We were unlucky not to get the treble. Luck here and | :21:01. | :21:04.
there would have been nice, a couple of good refereeing decisions. But | :21:05. | :21:08.
this season we've had a slow start. We need to kick on now. Results like | :21:09. | :21:14.
the 2-1 defeat to Motherwell pile on the pressure. One former player says | :21:15. | :21:19.
the Board should not be too hasty in wielding the axe. Who knows how many | :21:20. | :21:23.
good managers have been thrown out the door too early and not had a | :21:24. | :21:27.
chance. Celtic should give him the time to try and finish the job that | :21:28. | :21:31.
he started. Then if it doesn't work, then everybody can walk away and say | :21:32. | :21:35.
- it didn't work. It wasn't the right thing, but we gave it our best | :21:36. | :21:42.
shot. Through injuries Scott Brown will miss the busy schedule with an | :21:43. | :21:46.
expected return in six to eight weeks' time. | :21:47. | :21:49.
The 1872 Cup will be a tightly fought battle - | :21:50. | :21:51.
so says Scotland's record points scorer, Chris Paterson. | :21:52. | :21:57.
The biggest derby in Scottish rugby is a festive double-header | :21:58. | :22:00.
with Glasgow travelling to Edinburgh on Sunday for the first leg. | :22:01. | :22:02.
The Warriors want the Cup back after Edinburgh took it last year. | :22:03. | :22:05.
Chris Paterson examines where it could be won or lost | :22:06. | :22:08.
Edinburgh have one won lost one, Glasgow two from two. Scarlets top | :22:09. | :22:21.
of the Pro12. Their form is slightly better, I think. They have a huge | :22:22. | :22:32.
impact venue, add the supporters. A big crowd at Murrayfield. If you | :22:33. | :22:36.
look at the conditions it will be a heavier pitch here. If it was me I | :22:37. | :22:41.
would rather play at home. Edinburgh's strength is set-piece. | :22:42. | :22:46.
Some fantastic backs, fantastic ball players. Glasgow have the wonderful | :22:47. | :22:51.
ability to do a bit of everything. Getting that balance is key. | :22:52. | :22:54.
Edinburgh will take them on physically. Glasgow's forwards are | :22:55. | :23:01.
probably more used to playing in open field, a quicker game, a are mo | :23:02. | :23:06.
open game. Combative as well. Edinburgh's strength is in their | :23:07. | :23:10.
forward play, their scrum, their line-out. We will see Edinburgh look | :23:11. | :23:17.
to cause more damage up front. Coaches play to the their strengths. | :23:18. | :23:21.
They are both hugely intelligent and successful coaches. They will know | :23:22. | :23:26.
what to do at the right moment and hope the players can deliver. I have | :23:27. | :23:30.
a sneaky suspicion who I think may win. I think we have two teams | :23:31. | :23:39.
playing at the top of their game. I think the two games will be tight. | :23:40. | :23:43.
Last year it was two points in it. Form suggests it will be close. | :23:44. | :23:50.
Eilidh Child has told BBC Scotland her plans for the New Year | :23:51. | :23:53.
are to stay injury-free and make an impact at the Rio Olympics. | :23:54. | :23:56.
This morning, she indulged her other sporting love, Hearts, | :23:57. | :23:58.
as she agreed to become a Youth Ambassador for the club. | :23:59. | :24:01.
But after Commonwealth Silver and European Gold last year, | :24:02. | :24:03.
her firm focus now is next year's Olympics. | :24:04. | :24:09.
It's crazy. I can't believe it's going to be four years since London. | :24:10. | :24:16.
Yeah, I mean Olympic year there is always a huge buzz. Everybody raises | :24:17. | :24:24.
their game. Hopefully I can still injury-free and come out and do | :24:25. | :24:25.
something in Rio. Finally from me, the Christmas | :24:26. | :24:29.
spirit has reached Olympia with our elite showjumpers adding | :24:30. | :24:31.
some glitter and sparkle Can you guess which Scots | :24:32. | :24:33.
World Number One this is? Our Olympic Gold medallist, | :24:34. | :24:39.
Scott Brash, getting in on the fun. Not quite sure what the disguise is, | :24:40. | :24:42.
but apparently he could hardly see It looks lovely and Christmassy. Was | :24:43. | :24:54.
that him in the green hat The other one. A Santa Claus, but with long | :24:55. | :25:03.
plaits. Lady Santa Claus. They tried. It's not beginning to feel a | :25:04. | :25:08.
lot like Christmas, is it? Some sunshine as well. Jackie, thank you. | :25:09. | :25:13.
Good evening a number of blustery showers around today. A lovely | :25:14. | :25:19.
picture from one of our weather watchers. The showers rattling | :25:20. | :25:23.
through. They will continue to do that this evening and over night. | :25:24. | :25:28.
There is the showers, driven on a strong south-westerly. They are | :25:29. | :25:32.
hit-and-miss, not everyone will see them, dryer slots in between, | :25:33. | :25:37.
falling as snow on the hills. Thanks to the winds for most towns and | :25:38. | :25:42.
cities no colder than around four. So, to start the day tomorrow it's a | :25:43. | :25:46.
windy start and a rash of showers, as we head through the morning an | :25:47. | :25:50.
improve am from the south. Things will dry up, some sunshine coming | :25:51. | :25:55.
out. Extending north in towards the central belt and further north as we | :25:56. | :25:58.
head through the course of the afternoon. By mid afternoon it will | :25:59. | :26:02.
be dry, sunshine and cloud, the winds of note from the south-west | :26:03. | :26:06.
and with temperatureses seven or eight Celsius in the wind it will be | :26:07. | :26:16.
chilly at times. Further north still some showers. As we head Wednesday | :26:17. | :26:21.
night in towards Thursday all attention is out in the alandic | :26:22. | :26:25.
because of Eva, our fifth named storm. A deep area of low pressure | :26:26. | :26:33.
giving us a glancing blow to the north-west of Scotland. We will see | :26:34. | :26:40.
impacts in the form of winds. To start Wednesday evening it will be | :26:41. | :26:43.
dry and calm. The rain will arrive from the west and that warning in | :26:44. | :26:50.
force from Argyll towards Dumfries and Galloway. The winds could be | :26:51. | :26:54.
potentially storm-force. Come Thursday morning to the northern | :26:55. | :26:59.
isles as well. Disruption to the ferries and bridges as well. | :27:00. | :27:03.
Christmas Eve, day time, the winds will ease down. Some sunshine | :27:04. | :27:07.
around, but a rash of showers once again and, again, those showers | :27:08. | :27:10.
wintry across the hills and the high ground. That's the forecast for now. | :27:11. | :27:13.
Thank you very much Christopher. Now, a reminder of | :27:14. | :27:21.
tonight's main news. British military advisers have been | :27:22. | :27:23.
deployed to Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan, | :27:24. | :27:25.
after reports that the Taliban are close to taking | :27:26. | :27:27.
the key town of Sangin. The Forth Road Bridge will reopen | :27:28. | :27:29.
to all vehicles except HGVs at 6.00am tomorrow morning, almost | :27:30. | :27:32.
a fortnight earlier than expected. We'll be back with the headlines | :27:33. | :27:38.
at 8.00pm and the late bulletin just Until then, from everyone | :27:39. | :27:43.
on the team - right | :27:44. | :27:45. |
