After last week's election, MSPs are sworn-in as the new Parliament | :00:00. | :00:10.
Their first act is to elect the Labour MSP, Ken Macintosh, | :00:11. | :00:16.
as Presiding Officer to replace Tricia Marwick. | :00:17. | :00:22.
The revitalising of this Parliament reminds me of the promise offered by | :00:23. | :00:29.
devolution, which is to work together across the party defied for | :00:30. | :00:30.
the common good. The former | :00:31. | :00:34.
boss of RBS, Fred Goodwin, won't face prosecution over the sale | :00:35. | :00:37.
of shares in the months before After more than 100 years | :00:38. | :00:40.
at Pittodrie, Aberdeen FC unveils Newly-relegated Dundee United | :00:41. | :00:44.
appoint Ray McKinnon as manager. And the animals that ancient | :00:45. | :00:53.
Egyptians turned into mummies Holyrood has a new | :00:54. | :00:57.
Presiding Officer. He's Ken Macintosh - | :00:58. | :01:15.
who's been a Labour MSP Mr Macintosh told BBC Scotland | :01:16. | :01:17.
he wants to reassert the role Earlier, MSPs took the oath | :01:18. | :01:28.
of allegiance in This from our political editor, | :01:29. | :01:33.
Brian Taylor. For MSPs, a therefore family. A day | :01:34. | :01:48.
for photos. At this one, the new SNP group, large but now the minority. | :01:49. | :01:57.
But also a day from voting. In Hollywood's only secret ballot to | :01:58. | :02:02.
choose Parliament's neutral Presiding Officer. No nominees from | :02:03. | :02:07.
the SNP, they need every vote they can get to govern, but five | :02:08. | :02:11.
contenders from Labour and the Conservatives. After three rounds, a | :02:12. | :02:16.
clear winner. Ken Macintosh is elected as Presiding Officer of | :02:17. | :02:17.
APPLAUSE. A former Labour leadership | :02:18. | :02:28.
contender, Ken Macintosh was swiftly congratulated by current party | :02:29. | :02:33.
leaders. By definition, to win he required SNP support. He takes over | :02:34. | :02:36.
a tough job, convening a parliament required SNP support. He takes over | :02:37. | :02:41.
with new powers but no clear majority and acting as an envoy for | :02:42. | :02:44.
Scotland. I have known Ken Macintosh as a colleague and friend since 1999 | :02:45. | :02:50.
and I wish you well in what is the best job in Scotland. The new | :02:51. | :02:54.
Presiding Officer promises conciliation and consensus. To work | :02:55. | :02:58.
together across the party defied for the common good. And he told me he | :02:59. | :03:03.
wants to take the heat out of chamber questions. If I could do | :03:04. | :03:08.
anything I would like to try to take some of that hostility, some of that | :03:09. | :03:11.
sting and the theatrics out of first Minister's Questions. Klister June | :03:12. | :03:16.
was earlier the first to deliver the obligatory legible legions to the | :03:17. | :03:20.
Queen but not without a preamble. The Scottish National Party legis | :03:21. | :03:24.
loyalty to the people of Scotland in mind that the Scottish concentration | :03:25. | :03:27.
on tradition of the sovereignty of the people. I, Ruth Elizabeth | :03:28. | :03:34.
Davidson... Reflecting the power structure, she was followed by Ruth | :03:35. | :03:37.
Davidson for the Tories and Kezia Dugdale of the Labour Party and | :03:38. | :03:43.
Patrick Harvie of the Greens. Our party will always serve the people | :03:44. | :03:45.
of Scotland, who are sovereign. And among the leaders, Willie Rennie of | :03:46. | :03:51.
the Lib Dems, wearing in tribute, a Taiwan sworn by the late Charles | :03:52. | :03:55.
Kennedy. All have to swear or affirm in English butter or add-on options. | :03:56. | :03:59.
Peter Chapman, a north-east Conservative, shows Scots. | :04:00. | :04:17.
HE SPEAKS IN SCOTS. Like others, Kate Forbes repeated the pledge in | :04:18. | :04:26.
Gaelic. Aber Sarwar opened in Arabic. Sporting a distinctively | :04:27. | :04:33.
Scots Asian, Hamza Yousuf repeated the oath in Urdu. Only one, the | :04:34. | :04:44.
youngest MSP, Ross Greer of the Green Party, opted for the clenched | :04:45. | :04:50.
fist. And so tempting emerges from the Shadow of Labour defeat. | :04:51. | :04:54.
Inverness born, married with six children and a former BBC producer, | :04:55. | :04:59.
the new siding officer says he wants to reassert the role of Parliament, | :05:00. | :05:01.
but politely. -- Presiding Officer. In Parliament they are still voting | :05:02. | :05:05.
for Ken Macintosh's deputies. The latest news, there will be the | :05:06. | :05:17.
election of the first deputy, Linda Fabiani, a former SNP minister and | :05:18. | :05:23.
one who played the role in the construction, contentious | :05:24. | :05:25.
construction project for this building. She came out a clear first | :05:26. | :05:30.
and they are voting for the second deputy and the contenders are Ken | :05:31. | :05:34.
Gibson and Christine Grahame from the SNP and Margaret Mitchell from | :05:35. | :05:38.
the Conservatives. Ken has been knocked out so disgusting Grahame | :05:39. | :05:41.
against Margaret Mitchell, who came second in the first round but the | :05:42. | :05:46.
final vote is down to the MSPs. Many thanks. | :05:47. | :05:49.
The former boss of RBS, Fred Goodwin, won't face criminal | :05:50. | :05:51.
charges in connection with the sale of shares in the bank, | :05:52. | :05:54.
The Crown Office has investigated the bank's decision to sell shares | :05:55. | :05:59.
in a rights issue in 2008, which led to huge losses for people | :06:00. | :06:02.
Our Business and Economy Editor, Douglas Fraser, is here. | :06:03. | :06:11.
Douglas - this goes back eight years. | :06:12. | :06:12.
Going back to April 2008, the economic storm was already clearly | :06:13. | :06:25.
brewing, Fred Goodwin, then Sir Fred, went to the shareholders and | :06:26. | :06:29.
successfully persuaded them to put up ?12 billion more to underpin the | :06:30. | :06:36.
rapid growth of the bank, it was very successful for several years | :06:37. | :06:39.
and they accepted assurances that RBS was on footing, five months | :06:40. | :06:45.
later, it hit the rocks, it required more than 45 million pounds of | :06:46. | :06:50.
taxpayer bailouts, the shareholder value was slashed and shareholders | :06:51. | :06:56.
have been asking, where we misled when he parted with ?12 billion? | :06:57. | :07:01.
When the bank executives must have known that a serious risk of | :07:02. | :07:08.
collapse? The Crown Office, the prosecutor in Scotland, has been | :07:09. | :07:11.
asking that question as well, was this criminal fraud? Was company nor | :07:12. | :07:20.
broken? After five years, 160,000 documents, it has been extremely | :07:21. | :07:22.
complex and they say there is insufficient evidence to proceed any | :07:23. | :07:28.
prosecution. Nor have they find any grounds for any prosecution over the | :07:29. | :07:33.
treatment of business customers with distressed assets after the | :07:34. | :07:37.
financial crash, whether have been serious allegations about the | :07:38. | :07:41.
behaviour of the bank. Is RBS out of the woods? This clearly removes one | :07:42. | :07:46.
behaviour of the bank. Is RBS out of obstacle from the civil case, which | :07:47. | :07:49.
continues and is being pursued by groups of shareholders, one by the | :07:50. | :07:55.
senior executives, to defend their actions as well as the bank doing | :07:56. | :07:59.
so, Fred Goodwin produced a witness statement which has just arrived | :08:00. | :08:04.
with lawyers recently and I am told it runs to more than 150 pages and | :08:05. | :08:09.
that could come into open court scheduled for March of next year but | :08:10. | :08:12.
that good stuff. The current leadership would like to get out | :08:13. | :08:16.
from under this cloud, it is expected to table a proposal for an | :08:17. | :08:20.
out-of-court settlement but even if it gets to that, other legacy issues | :08:21. | :08:26.
roll on about the safe -- sale of toxic assets before the crunch, | :08:27. | :08:29.
mis-selling of financial products, rigging markets since 2008 and share | :08:30. | :08:35.
price that is less than half of what it needs to be for the taxpayer to | :08:36. | :08:39.
break even. It may have kept itself out of the criminal courts here but | :08:40. | :08:41.
it is still a long way from being out of the criminal courts here but | :08:42. | :08:44.
fully recovered. Douglas, thank you for | :08:45. | :08:46.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. | :08:47. | :08:48.
Still to come on tonight's programme? The new exhibition | :08:49. | :08:52.
We'll hear what one of their players makes of the new manager. | :08:53. | :08:58.
And what's the Scotland manager doing in a car showroom? | :08:59. | :09:02.
And who is he calling the Yoda of Scottish football? | :09:03. | :09:09.
Changes to the way BBC Scotland is governed have been set out | :09:10. | :09:12.
as part of wider reforms to the corporation. | :09:13. | :09:15.
The UK government says Scotland will be represented on the main BBC | :09:16. | :09:21.
board and there will also be a group set up to oversee Scottish services. | :09:22. | :09:26.
But the Culture Secretary said the BBC must do more to serve | :09:27. | :09:30.
Our Westminster Correspondent, David Porter, has more. | :09:31. | :09:37.
Comedy favourites Craig and Ford wrap the BBC in Glasgow today, | :09:38. | :09:45.
launching a new series of still game. In which they pay pensioners | :09:46. | :09:51.
Jack and Hector. Back after a nine-year absence from our screens. | :09:52. | :09:56.
It is almost as if the launch was some kind of distraction from the | :09:57. | :10:00.
White Paper? Some people will need that White Paper! Maybe so but what | :10:01. | :10:05.
has been decided for the BBC will affect most everyone. The Secretary | :10:06. | :10:11.
of State for culture, media and sport... And other stage, this time | :10:12. | :10:17.
of a political nature and more details of how the future BBC should | :10:18. | :10:19.
look. The BBC will also be required details of how the future BBC should | :10:20. | :10:27.
to give greater focus to underserved audiences, in particular those from | :10:28. | :10:30.
black, Asian and ethnic minority crimes. And from the nations and | :10:31. | :10:35.
regions, who are currently less well served. What is planned? The BBC | :10:36. | :10:39.
Trust is to be replaced with a new board set up to run day-to-day | :10:40. | :10:44.
matters. It will have a Scottish representative and there will be | :10:45. | :10:49.
what is called a sub board for Scotland. The licence fee, currently | :10:50. | :10:54.
just over ?145 every year, will continue for at least the next 11 | :10:55. | :10:59.
years. And in future, viewers will also need a license if you want to | :11:00. | :11:04.
use iPlayer catch-up services. Politically, a broad welcome for the | :11:05. | :11:08.
proposals but a feeling that more can be done. It is important to | :11:09. | :11:14.
drive up standards in the BBC in Scotland and the Secretary of State | :11:15. | :11:18.
clearly said today that Scotland is underserved by the BBC and we have | :11:19. | :11:22.
said that for a long time. The BBC is less trusted in Scotland in any | :11:23. | :11:26.
of the other constituent nations in the UK. For many, top of the list is | :11:27. | :11:33.
a Scottish generated national and international TV news bulletin, a | :11:34. | :11:40.
so-called Scottish six. Others believe that is a step too far. | :11:41. | :11:44.
There are those who do not believe in a common national British | :11:45. | :11:48.
identity and, if in that we might unintentionally create a wedge | :11:49. | :11:54.
between Scotland and England, I would urge the Secretary of State to | :11:55. | :11:58.
exercise caution but the amount of diversity that is given to the | :11:59. | :12:05.
devolved nations. And BBC management north of the border say that the | :12:06. | :12:11.
White Paper will lead to changes in what Scottish audiences get from the | :12:12. | :12:15.
broadcaster. We recognise that there is a deficit in certain areas of | :12:16. | :12:20.
output, there is a need for more portrayal and representation through | :12:21. | :12:23.
drama output and comedy and we recognise that television news has | :12:24. | :12:28.
to adapt to a country which is increasingly being devolved. The | :12:29. | :12:32.
BBC's present Charter expires at the end of the year. Ministers say the | :12:33. | :12:36.
new plans will help guarantee the corporation's future in the | :12:37. | :12:37.
long-term. A look now at other stories | :12:38. | :12:41.
from across the country. Glasgow has been named among 11 | :12:42. | :12:44.
urban areas in the UK and Ireland which have breached air | :12:45. | :12:47.
pollution safety levels. The city featured in the data | :12:48. | :12:52.
published by the World Health The health body warned poor | :12:53. | :12:55.
air quality causes more than three million deaths around | :12:56. | :13:00.
the world every year. The city council said it | :13:01. | :13:02.
took its responsibility to monitor Plans for a huge offshore wind farm | :13:03. | :13:05.
in the outer Forth estuary The project has lost | :13:06. | :13:12.
a vital subsidy deal, The scheme's backers argue | :13:13. | :13:15.
the decision is invalid and are confident it | :13:16. | :13:21.
can be overturned. The wind farm's also | :13:22. | :13:25.
the focus of a legal challenge by RSPB Scotland, | :13:26. | :13:28.
which argues the scheme's a threat The jazz musician Joe Temperley has | :13:29. | :13:30.
died at the age of 86. The Fife-born sax player performed | :13:31. | :13:39.
with some of the biggest names in jazz and was the last surviving | :13:40. | :13:42.
member of the Duke He only started playing | :13:43. | :13:45.
the saxophone because his brother had bagged his preferred | :13:46. | :13:49.
instrument - the trumpet. He never forgot his Scottish roots, | :13:50. | :13:53.
and helped to found a youth jazz A new budget rail service | :13:54. | :13:56.
between Edinburgh and London has First Group will be allowed to run | :13:57. | :14:02.
five services a day, Fares will be less than ?25, | :14:03. | :14:07.
with the service starting Police are searching for a Mercedes | :14:08. | :14:13.
which had a fake number plate, after a hit and run collision | :14:14. | :14:19.
in Livingston yesterday. It struck a parked car on Thymebank | :14:20. | :14:23.
at about nine o'clock The Mercedes driver failed to stop, | :14:24. | :14:27.
and then sped from the scene. Aberdeen Football Club has unveiled | :14:28. | :14:36.
plans to leave its Pittodrie home and move to a new stadium | :14:37. | :14:38.
to the west of the city. It's the club's third attempt | :14:39. | :14:41.
to build a new purpose-built site, but, as you might expect, | :14:42. | :14:44.
not everybody's pleased. Our reporter John McManus | :14:45. | :14:46.
is at Pittodrie for us tonight. Not long until Aberdeen kick-off | :14:47. | :15:04.
against hearts here at Pittodrie but for the dons fans, to see their team | :15:05. | :15:07.
in action, there will be something else undermined, is the team finally | :15:08. | :15:12.
about to leave its historic home and move to a new residence in the | :15:13. | :15:18.
suburbs? It has been the home of Aberdeen football club for more than | :15:19. | :15:22.
100 years. It is still going strong but for how long? The club have | :15:23. | :15:28.
served -- surveyed sides on this new piece of land. This is a stadium | :15:29. | :15:33.
near Westhill that the dons hope to move into 20 19. With it, a new | :15:34. | :15:38.
state-of-the-art training facility. Over the past 15 years, the club has | :15:39. | :15:44.
had attempts to move from the beach-side ground. But it says that | :15:45. | :15:47.
staying put is not an option. The demands of the modern football club | :15:48. | :15:54.
dictate that we need 3G pitches, we need grass pitches, we need to get a | :15:55. | :16:01.
professional team onto the services that they will be playing on every | :16:02. | :16:05.
week in the leagues, we need all-weather facilities because as we | :16:06. | :16:09.
know, it is not always as sunny as this in Aberdeen and the surrounds. | :16:10. | :16:14.
There is concern in Westhill. I'm not sure about this, purely because | :16:15. | :16:20.
of the traffic for the area. It is bad enough as it is. It is a good | :16:21. | :16:28.
idea. It has pleased me, I was an ex-season-ticket holder and be | :16:29. | :16:34.
great. The Dons fans had mixed opinions tonight. Fans on the other | :16:35. | :16:42.
side of the City, getting over to Westhill on Saturday will be | :16:43. | :16:46.
difficult for me. It is great news for the supporters. And a very | :16:47. | :16:52.
positive way forward for the club. The City council says a new stadium | :16:53. | :16:55.
is a vital part of upgrading the infrastructure of the region. But it | :16:56. | :16:58.
still has to get through the planning process. | :16:59. | :17:02.
That planning application will happen after an initial 12-week | :17:03. | :17:08.
consultation. The club said it expects an answer within this year. | :17:09. | :17:13.
So watch this space. Thank you very much for that. | :17:14. | :17:15.
Let's get the rest of the sports news - with David. | :17:16. | :17:18.
Just over a week after sacking Mixu Paatelainen, | :17:19. | :17:20.
Former player Ray McKinnon has signed a three year deal | :17:21. | :17:27.
at Tannadice, following his departure from Raith Rovers. | :17:28. | :17:30.
The Dundonian made over a hundred appearances for the Tannadice side, | :17:31. | :17:33.
and says he's 'looking forward to rebuilding' | :17:34. | :17:35.
A new strip for what will be a team with a new manager next season and | :17:36. | :17:51.
one player says Ray McKinnon has the perfect credentials for the job. You | :17:52. | :17:57.
have seen what the job he did at Brechin, close to getting them into | :17:58. | :18:05.
the... Getting promotion and he has carried on this season. McKinnon | :18:06. | :18:12.
becomes Dundee United's third manager in less than a year. But | :18:13. | :18:16.
this particular appointment appears to have gone down well with fans of | :18:17. | :18:20.
the club. I think he will probably do well. He has done well with | :18:21. | :18:24.
raift. Why not United? If that what is we are going for, you get behind | :18:25. | :18:29.
the the manager. He has to get the respect of the players rights away. | :18:30. | :18:32.
If he brings in his own squad, he will do that. One former fans | :18:33. | :18:40.
favourite said McKinnon requires one thing. Everyone this it is great if | :18:41. | :18:45.
you have played for the club, but it is all down the the results and that | :18:46. | :18:50.
is what will if it is the right decision. McKinnon will watch from | :18:51. | :18:58.
the stands at the final game. But then the hard work will begin. | :18:59. | :19:02.
The Scotland manager Gordon Strachan hopes resting the majority | :19:03. | :19:04.
of players from Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts will help | :19:05. | :19:06.
Scotland face a double header with Italy and France, | :19:07. | :19:09.
and Strachan says it will help him as national manager later | :19:10. | :19:12.
in the year if he has more players taking part in European competition. | :19:13. | :19:15.
Celtic's 2-1 defeat to St Johnstone, Leigh Griffiths hitting the 40-goal | :19:16. | :19:34.
mark. But no place for Griffiths or other Celtics or Aberdeen players. I | :19:35. | :19:40.
go back to ten or eleven years ago when Celtic and Rangers were doing | :19:41. | :19:44.
very well in Europe. That definitely benefitted, ask the coaches back | :19:45. | :19:48.
there, that benefitted the national side with these guys play being top | :19:49. | :19:53.
sides. I'm hoping we can give these guys a rest and that will benefit | :19:54. | :19:57.
their clubs. In the long-term that will benefit me and the national | :19:58. | :20:02.
side. The former Scotland boss Craig Brown said the current squad lack | :20:03. | :20:09.
the quality to compete at major tournaments. Craig is probably the | :20:10. | :20:16.
Yoda of Scottish football, but what I have got is a great bunch of lads | :20:17. | :20:22.
and we have to work as a team and put in more hours, because we don't | :20:23. | :20:26.
have the individuals that... Other international teams have got. The | :20:27. | :20:31.
media Conference held in a car show room, one car seemingly less than | :20:32. | :20:37.
impressed by the inclusion of Rangers' Lee Wallace and Barry | :20:38. | :20:44.
McKay. We have to pick both... ALARM GOES OFF! It is the wrong thing | :20:45. | :20:51.
picking them. It must have been a Celtic supporter setting that off? | :20:52. | :20:55.
The former Celtic manager, Martin O'Neill, says he's not | :20:56. | :20:57.
at all surprised Roy Keane is being linked with | :20:58. | :20:59.
O'Neill is currently Keane's boss at the Republic of Ireland, | :21:00. | :21:02.
and was asked what it would take to prise his deputy away. | :21:03. | :21:07.
As he often says his favourite phrase, rofy's boat. But me has | :21:08. | :21:17.
enjoyed it here. I think it has been good for him. Is he ready to go? | :21:18. | :21:20.
Yeah he could very well Andy Murray will be seeded second | :21:21. | :21:25.
for the French Open, tennis' second Grand Slam | :21:26. | :21:28.
of the season, when it gets Regardless of how well he does | :21:29. | :21:30.
at this week's Masters series event in Rome, | :21:31. | :21:34.
Murray will move back up to world number two due to Roger Federer's | :21:35. | :21:36.
third round defeat today. Murray himself against | :21:37. | :21:39.
France's Jeremy Chardy. Let's finish off in the pool, | :21:40. | :21:42.
where Scottish diver Grace Reid helped win Britain's first gold | :21:43. | :21:48.
medal at the European Championships and has now set her sights | :21:49. | :21:51.
on qualifying for the Rio Olympics. Reid was ably assisted | :21:52. | :21:54.
at the London Aquatics Centre by Olympic bronze medallist | :21:55. | :21:56.
Tom Daley as the pair took first place in the mixed three | :21:57. | :21:59.
metre synchronized event. We should give that a go. Not the | :22:00. | :22:10.
mixed obviously. Thank you. Egypt is famous for mummies, but did | :22:11. | :22:16.
you know it also produced tens Many were brought back to the UK | :22:17. | :22:19.
as souvenirs and they'll feature in a new exhibition which opens | :22:20. | :22:23.
at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Our Arts Correspondent, | :22:24. | :22:25.
Pauline McLean, reports. From cats and birds to more exotic | :22:26. | :22:44.
creatures like this crocodile, there are few animals the Egyptians didn't | :22:45. | :22:50.
consider preserving. Unlike human mummies, it was not for the after | :22:51. | :22:54.
life - these were gifts for the gods. Mplts. They were a way of | :22:55. | :23:03.
communicating with the Gods. You would give an image, maybe a bronze | :23:04. | :23:08.
statue or a mummified version of an animal. There was plenty of | :23:09. | :23:13.
communicating going on. Millions of animal mummies, many brought back to | :23:14. | :23:24.
the UK Victorian souvenir hunters. This collection brings together a | :23:25. | :23:27.
number of works which tell the story of the vast trade in animal mummies. | :23:28. | :23:32.
Including this object, already familiar from the city's Burrell | :23:33. | :23:38.
collection. It has a nice number of star Egyptian objects. One of which | :23:39. | :23:42.
we have brought here to be the star of this exhibition and it is a | :23:43. | :23:56.
gilded Ibis. One advantage that we have over ancient Egyptians and | :23:57. | :24:01.
Victorian collectors is we have the technology to look inside the | :24:02. | :24:05.
mummies, with some surprising results. Some of the animal mummies | :24:06. | :24:08.
don't contain what we expect. So results. Some of the animal mummies | :24:09. | :24:13.
researchers at the university of Manchester have been working and | :24:14. | :24:19.
shown only a third of the mummies contain an animal. Some contain part | :24:20. | :24:24.
of animal and the last third contain nothing. The exhibition which opens | :24:25. | :24:28.
this weekend and runs to September hopes to cast fresh light on Egypt | :24:29. | :24:32.
and an age-old industry. But first, here's Andrew Kerr | :24:33. | :24:37.
with details of Scotland 2016. We will have the first live | :24:38. | :24:49.
interview with Holyrood's new Presiding Officer Ken MacIntosh as | :24:50. | :24:54.
he prepares to steer the Parliament. And the UK Government sets a course | :24:55. | :24:58.
for the future of the BBC in a new White Paper. We will discuss if the | :24:59. | :25:02.
corporation's independence can be guaranteed. That is at 10.30 on BBC | :25:03. | :25:05.
Two. Today is the last of the warmest | :25:06. | :25:18.
temperatures. Plenty of sunshine was on offer today as well as | :25:19. | :25:23.
illustrated here by our weather watcher in Inverness. Thank you to | :25:24. | :25:29.
TJ. We have getting some wonderful pictures. Tonight the emphasis is | :25:30. | :25:33.
for a cloudier picture than we have been used to over the last few | :25:34. | :25:39.
nights. But not a cold one. Here is a picture from 7pm, plenty of late | :25:40. | :25:43.
evening sunshine, cloudier conditions in the far north with | :25:44. | :25:47.
light and patchy rain and that will continue to sink south during the | :25:48. | :25:51.
night. Further west more in the way of clearer skies and a mild night to | :25:52. | :25:57.
come across the board. As we head into tomorrow morning, it is a dry | :25:58. | :26:01.
and bright start for many southern parts, this cloudier picture | :26:02. | :26:07.
continues to sink further south and behind that cooler air and a | :26:08. | :26:10.
brighter picture with sunshine on offer. If we look at the | :26:11. | :26:14.
temperatures, quite a difference to what we have been used to at the | :26:15. | :26:19.
beginning of the week, particularly along the west coast. We have become | :26:20. | :26:25.
used to the low 20s, now it is around 15 Celsius. But still plenty | :26:26. | :26:30.
of dry and bright weather and sunshine for many parts of north and | :26:31. | :26:34.
the Northern Isles. But temperatures pegged back with a fresh onshore | :26:35. | :26:41.
breeze. At the weekend, although we have cooler air, we are still under | :26:42. | :26:45.
the influence of high pressure and plenty of sunshine on offer. That | :26:46. | :26:48.
can only be a good thing. Plenty of sunshine around through many central | :26:49. | :26:52.
and southern parts. More cloud with one or two showers around in the far | :26:53. | :26:58.
north, highs of around 13 Celsius and a similar story as we head into | :26:59. | :27:02.
Sunday, highs again of 13 or 14 Celsius. So to recap for the | :27:03. | :27:08.
weekend, plenty of sunshine around, and in the sunshine feeling pleasant | :27:09. | :27:12.
and chilly at nights. Now, a reminder of | :27:13. | :27:16.
tonight's main news. Holyrood has a new | :27:17. | :27:17.
Presiding Officer. He's Ken Macintosh - | :27:18. | :27:19.
who's been a Labour MSP Mr Macintosh told BBC Scotland | :27:20. | :27:21.
he wants to re-assert the role of Parliament | :27:22. | :27:26.
and he wants less hostility I'll be back with the headlines at 8 | :27:27. | :27:29.
and the late bulletin just Until then, from everyone | :27:30. | :27:34.
on the team right across the country - | :27:35. | :27:37.
have a very good evening. | :27:38. | :27:40. |
