Concerns about the cost of the inquiry into | :00:10. | :00:13.
the Edinburgh trams fiasco - it stands at ?3.7 million. | :00:14. | :00:16.
I think it is wrong they should have to pay this much for an enquiry when | :00:17. | :00:22.
it should be paid for by the people cost us this much money. It's like | :00:23. | :00:26.
school, is somebody going to get the cost us this much money. It's like | :00:27. | :00:27.
cane or something? I don't think so. The Scottish government says | :00:28. | :00:31.
the inquiry is committed to delivering a fair | :00:32. | :00:33.
and balanced report. Also on the programme: A month | :00:34. | :00:35.
on from the EU referendum the UK's top law officer says Scotland | :00:36. | :00:38.
will have no veto on Brexit, I am at a science lab in Edinburgh | :00:39. | :00:50.
to find out what Brexit could mean for Scottish business. | :00:51. | :00:53.
Investigations continue into how a nuclear-powered submarine | :00:54. | :00:54.
collided with a ship off the coast of Gibraltar. | :00:55. | :00:57.
And Brendan Rogers is looking to strengthen his squad, | :00:58. | :00:59.
after Celtic beat the part-time footballers of Gibraltar to continue | :01:00. | :01:01.
BBC Scotland has learned that the cost of the inquiry | :01:02. | :01:25.
into the Edinburgh trams fiasco is already more than | :01:26. | :01:27.
The Scottish government set up the investigation two years ago | :01:28. | :01:30.
to look into why the project came in late and at more | :01:31. | :01:33.
Our reporter Cameron Buttle is in Edinburgh tonight. | :01:34. | :01:44.
Edinburgh trams have been running for about two years now and seem to | :01:45. | :01:50.
be proving quite popular because passenger numbers are higher than | :01:51. | :01:54.
expected. The line runs from Edinburgh airport to hear in the | :01:55. | :02:00.
city centre, the cost ?767 million, it was five years overdue underlying | :02:01. | :02:03.
did not go as far as it was meant to. Swift and thorough, that was the | :02:04. | :02:10.
aim when the tram enquiry was launched back in June 20 14. It is | :02:11. | :02:15.
said to be making good progress, already collating more than 6 | :02:16. | :02:20.
million documents. Freedom of information request from the BBC to | :02:21. | :02:23.
the Scottish Government shows the costs have already exceeded million. | :02:24. | :02:29.
That includes ?1.8 million on staffing costs and ?716,000 on legal | :02:30. | :02:36.
fees. Out on this treats of the city and other multi-million pound | :02:37. | :02:38.
headline involving the trams doesn't seem to be going down well. The cost | :02:39. | :02:45.
the earth don't they? I am not too enamoured with that. It's wrong to | :02:46. | :02:50.
pay this much for an enquiry that should be paid for by the people who | :02:51. | :02:56.
cost us this much money. Why? It's like school, is somebody going to | :02:57. | :02:59.
get the cane or something? I don't think so, you just get moved on. | :03:00. | :03:04.
Some transport experts say there has to be an enquiry into such an | :03:05. | :03:07.
expensive and controversial project and it will be worth it. We need to | :03:08. | :03:12.
understand the reasons why it happened so we can inform the design | :03:13. | :03:18.
planning of tram schemes and other major transport infrastructure | :03:19. | :03:20.
screams in the future and hopefully save ourselves money in the future. | :03:21. | :03:24.
That is why we shouldn't be too concerned by the cost of this | :03:25. | :03:27.
because when we compare the cost of the enquiry to the potential savings | :03:28. | :03:32.
to future schemes then we could save ourselves a lot of money and that is | :03:33. | :03:37.
why it is valuable. A spokesman said Scottish ministers have been clear | :03:38. | :03:41.
from the start that it should be timely and cost effective. The | :03:42. | :03:44.
Scottish Government said the team is committed to delivering an fair and | :03:45. | :03:47.
balanced report with clear recommendations for future projects. | :03:48. | :03:55.
There is no official end to the enquiry, we were told by a spokesman | :03:56. | :03:58.
that it was open ended but I spoke to a local politician today who | :03:59. | :04:02.
joked that he hoped it didn't go on for too long because we don't want | :04:03. | :04:04.
is an enquiry into the enquiry. A holiday park operator has been | :04:05. | :04:08.
fined nearly a quarter of a million pounds after a schoolboy died | :04:09. | :04:11.
in a swimming pool in Arbroath. Six year old Aidan Sands | :04:12. | :04:14.
died from brain injuries following the accident | :04:15. | :04:17.
at the Red Lion Caravan Loch Earn Caravan Parks Limited | :04:18. | :04:19.
admitted a number of health and safety charges at | :04:20. | :04:25.
Forfar Sheriff Court. A woman's body has been recovered, | :04:26. | :04:30.
after a car plunged into the River Clyde | :04:31. | :04:32.
at Renfrew this afternoon. It happened next to the Braehead | :04:33. | :04:36.
shopping centre just Witnesses said they saw | :04:37. | :04:38.

operation was organised, involving the coastguard helicopter | :04:47. | :04:49.
and police divers. The UK government's senior law | :04:50. | :04:53.
officer has ruled out a veto for Scotland over when the Brexit | :04:54. | :04:59.
process is started. The Attorney General, Jeremy Wright, | :05:00. | :05:02.
said there would be consultations with the Scottish Government | :05:03. | :05:04.
but that it would not be able Here's our Westminster | :05:05. | :05:07.
correspondent, David Porter. A month ago today we were voting on | :05:08. | :05:25.
whether to stay in the European Union. Scotland voted overwhelmingly | :05:26. | :05:29.
to remain but the UK as a whole decided to leave. That set about | :05:30. | :05:36.
quite a chain of events. Prime Minister has resigned. A new | :05:37. | :05:41.
occupant has into Downing Street. The Labour leader is fighting for | :05:42. | :05:45.
his survival and the First Minister has indicated a second independence | :05:46. | :05:48.
his survival and the First Minister referendum is now in her words | :05:49. | :05:54.
highly likely. Four weeks on and minds are turning to how Brexit will | :05:55. | :05:57.
work and what role Scotland will have. The Prime Minister has stated | :05:58. | :06:05.
that Brexit means Brexit and the First Minister has stated that | :06:06. | :06:09.
remain remains remain, do you agree the Scottish people have spoken and | :06:10. | :06:11.
therefore the southern JCB respected? Until there is a UK | :06:12. | :06:21.
approach to Brexit, does the right honourable and learn a gentleman | :06:22. | :06:24.
agree that a motion is required before the government has the legal | :06:25. | :06:29.
authority to trigger article 50? All parts of the United Kingdom | :06:30. | :06:32.
including the governments of devolved administrations should be | :06:33. | :06:36.
able to participate in the process of developing the UK approach to | :06:37. | :06:39.
these negotiations. But that does not mean that any of the parts of | :06:40. | :06:45.
the UK have a veto over this process and so consultation most certainly | :06:46. | :06:51.
did veto I am afraid not. But from an English Eurosceptic Conservative, | :06:52. | :06:55.
this. I am happy with the government consulting with the devolved | :06:56. | :06:58.
administrations but what concerns me is that we don't finish up being | :06:59. | :07:01.
held to ransom by the Scottish Nationalists. I think the Prime | :07:02. | :07:06.
Minister has been very clear that the United Kingdom will leave the | :07:07. | :07:09.
European Union and that means all of the United Kingdom. As MPs packed | :07:10. | :07:14.
their bags and head for their summer break they know one thing is almost | :07:15. | :07:19.
certain, whatever else may happen, when they get back the Brexit | :07:20. | :07:23.
question is likely to dominate all other issues. | :07:24. | :07:27.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. | :07:28. | :07:28.

What could leaving the EU mean for Scottish businesses - | :07:32. | :07:33.
And coming up in sport, after seeing off the Red Imps, Celtic | :07:34. | :07:40.
now face a Champions League 6000 mile round trip. | :07:41. | :07:44.

The Royal Navy is investigating how a Faslane-based nuclear-powered | :07:47. | :07:58.
submarine collided with a civilian boat off the coast of Gibraltar. | :07:59. | :08:00.
HMS Ambush has now been taken into port to be checked. | :08:01. | :08:05.
Although not a Trident submarine, the SNP say the crash | :08:06. | :08:08.
Here's our correspondent, Andrew Kerr. | :08:09. | :08:19.
Limping back into port, HMS ambush with significant damage. The Faslane | :08:20. | :08:25.
-based boat is now being assessed for repairs. It struck a merchant | :08:26. | :08:30.
vessel off the coast of Gibraltar. One defence analyst says it may have | :08:31. | :08:34.
been trying to hide as part of an exercise. One suspect might have | :08:35. | :08:40.
been a bit too clever, perhaps using a relatively noisy tanker as cover | :08:41. | :08:46.
and got a bit too close? Perhaps misjudged the draft of the tanker | :08:47. | :08:48.
because apparently it was bunkering and they go up and down. If she did | :08:49. | :08:54.
she made a significant error. A retired sub Mariner has sympathy | :08:55. | :08:59.
with the crew. You can stand underneath the Forth road bridge and | :09:00. | :09:02.
listen to the noise of all the vehicles, lots of them, that noise | :09:03. | :09:08.
is, that is what you hear in the Gibraltar Strait, stop start, | :09:09. | :09:14.
fishing vessels, big draft tankers, lots of them. You never get a minute | :09:15. | :09:23.
to just go and stop. It's the latest incident involving an astute class | :09:24. | :09:26.
submarine, one ran aground off sky in 2010. This type did not carry | :09:27. | :09:32.
Trident nuclear weapons but they do have nuclear reactors. The SNP have | :09:33. | :09:43.
expressed concern. The MOD have explaining to do as to how exactly | :09:44. | :09:47.
this happened. It calls into question the overall safety aspect. | :09:48. | :09:53.
The MOD don't yet know if the submarine will be repaired here at | :09:54. | :09:57.
its home base on the Clyde or elsewhere. What we do know is that | :09:58. | :10:00.
this has been an embarrassing incident for the Royal Navy, a | :10:01. | :10:04.
service which normally prides itself on stealth and seamanship. | :10:05. | :10:08.
Unions insist there'll be no redundancies as a result | :10:09. | :10:10.
of uncertainty over the timetable to build eight Type 26 | :10:11. | :10:13.
It comes after the chief executive for Equipment at the Ministry | :10:14. | :10:19.
of Defence told a Commons committee there was no start date | :10:20. | :10:22.
The SNP said that meant the project was "delayed indefinitely". | :10:23. | :10:27.
However, the Unite union said the contract was still guaranteed. | :10:28. | :10:33.
Three people, who died after a disturbance in Aberdeen | :10:34. | :10:35.
Police believe 40 year old Tracy Gabriel and 43 year | :10:36. | :10:42.
old Keith Taylor were murdered by Hugh Gallacher, who was 57. | :10:43. | :10:47.
He plunged to his death from a 12th floor balcony, after police had | :10:48. | :10:50.
arrived on the scene at Donside Court. | :10:51. | :10:53.
Tracy Gabriel's family described her as a very caring person. | :10:54. | :11:00.
Yesterday economic data revealed that the Scottish | :11:01. | :11:01.
economy is stagnating - and growing at less than half | :11:02. | :11:04.
Much of that is down to the impact of the downturn in the oil | :11:05. | :11:10.
industry - but what sort of threat will Brexit pose | :11:11. | :11:12.
Our correspondent, David Henderson joins us now from Edinburgh. | :11:13. | :11:25.
Yes, four weeks on from the EU referendum, what comes next is still | :11:26. | :11:33.
very much an clear, and that really matters to firms like this one, a | :11:34. | :11:40.
supplier of companies right around the world. Scottish firms do | :11:41. | :11:44.
Williams of pounds worth of trade right across Europe -- billions of | :11:45. | :11:50.
pounds worth. They want to make sure those links remain unaffected if and | :11:51. | :11:55.
when the UK leads the European Union. I have been hearing from the | :11:56. | :11:57.
boss of a shortbread factory in Union. I have been hearing from the | :11:58. | :12:05.
Aberdeen to find out more. I am the business development manager, we | :12:06. | :12:08.
have been around for 30 years and the business was originally | :12:09. | :12:11.
established by my grandmother Elizabeth Duncan. We proudly | :12:12. | :12:17.
produced hand baked shortbread and awed cakes made to traditional | :12:18. | :12:20.
family recipes. What we are most known for is the all but short | :12:21. | :12:32.
bread. -- butter shortbread. Small beginnings but this is a big | :12:33. | :12:37.
productive output? Definitely, we are growing quickly, rapidly, | :12:38. | :12:39.
productive output? Definitely, we an exciting time for the business. | :12:40. | :12:44.
How important our European countries particularly those in the EU for you | :12:45. | :12:49.
and your business? We export to Spain, Germany, France, Italy and | :12:50. | :12:53.
further afield to Australia, America. We do a lot of | :12:54. | :12:57.
private-label as well as dealing with the likes of Morrison and | :12:58. | :13:01.
Tesco's in the UK. It is an uncertain time, a lot of people are | :13:02. | :13:05.
asking questions and the body seems to have the answers. Butter, sugar, | :13:06. | :13:10.
margarine, all the key ingredients in the products that we use are all | :13:11. | :13:15.
increasing in price at the moment. Whether we are in the EU or not you | :13:16. | :13:20.
want the single market to continue? Without a shadow of a doubt, we need | :13:21. | :13:25.
it to continue as a business. We would have to adapt and change as we | :13:26. | :13:28.
have done in the past but for us to maintain our growth at such a | :13:29. | :13:32.
healthy way that we need the market to remain open. Paul Downton there, | :13:33. | :13:38.
my apologies for the here and it I to remain open. Paul Downton there, | :13:39. | :13:43.
had to wear. I am joined by Janet, the chief executive of this company. | :13:44. | :13:54.
Thank you for allowing us into your laboratory, what could the vote to | :13:55. | :13:57.
leave the EU do for your business, what would be the impact? We've not | :13:58. | :14:03.
seen a massive impact at this stage, the turn town in the pound has had | :14:04. | :14:08.
some benefits, we are looking to see what the opportunities will be | :14:09. | :14:11.
long-term in terms of immigration and the regulatory landscape we work | :14:12. | :14:18.
in. When you say regulatory landscape you are talking about | :14:19. | :14:20.
cross-border regulation, a level landscape you are talking about | :14:21. | :14:25.
playing field across Europe? Yes, we manufacture cells for clinical | :14:26. | :14:28.
trials and work with companies across Europe and the US to make | :14:29. | :14:30.
sure we manufacture there are sells across Europe and the US to make | :14:31. | :14:36.
to a safe manner. We have to work within the European regulatory | :14:37. | :14:39.
landscape, complying with that, still having access to Europe but | :14:40. | :14:42.
making the benefits within the UK and having a positive impact. So you | :14:43. | :14:48.
don't want more red tape. A team of the referendum campaign was that | :14:49. | :14:52.
leaving the EU would cut immigration, what impact would that | :14:53. | :14:56.
have? Immigration is an important point for us, we want to attract | :14:57. | :15:01.
highly skilled people here to Edinburgh and for us it is important | :15:02. | :15:05.
we get the right people and have the immigration landscape for that and | :15:06. | :15:07.
can attract those highly skilled people. We have about 5% of our | :15:08. | :15:13.
staff from Europe and want to make sure they can stay. Philip, | :15:14. | :15:18.
Edinburgh is one of Europe's leading financial centres as we look towards | :15:19. | :15:23.
Brexit, what is at stake for the city and Scotland? The story of | :15:24. | :15:28.
Janet is no different to what we are hearing from businesses across | :15:29. | :15:32.
Scotland. We are in a period of radical uncertainty, we all need to | :15:33. | :15:37.
work through it. We should remember that the UK is still open for | :15:38. | :15:44.
business, it's an agile and competitive economy and should take | :15:45. | :15:48.
confidence in that. When you look at Brexit, it is not Brexit itself but | :15:49. | :15:53.
how we respond to it. We know companies are mobile, they can move, | :15:54. | :15:58.
some might threaten to move, and some might look to move if we are | :15:59. | :16:01.
left out of the European single market, is there a risk of that | :16:02. | :16:05.
happening? What I would encourage is not to be basing decisions on | :16:06. | :16:12.
speculation. There is a lot of speculation, what we need to do is | :16:13. | :16:16.
work through policy as it develops and assess the implications, be | :16:17. | :16:19.
resilient and be agile but be well informed as to what policy means for | :16:20. | :16:26.
your sector and the economy. Janet, as we look forward, Theresa May the | :16:27. | :16:29.
new Prime Minister is getting into the job, do you have a message for | :16:30. | :16:36.
her about what she should be doing? Make sure Scotland and the UK is the | :16:37. | :16:40.
place to come per business, particularly for cell therapies but | :16:41. | :16:43.
it's not just about what the government can do, we want | :16:44. | :16:46.
investment into our business so we are looking more broadly. We must | :16:47. | :16:50.
leave it there, thank you both very much indeed, a lot at stake here in | :16:51. | :16:57.
Scotland and across the UK when it comes to Brexit as you heard. The UK | :16:58. | :17:01.
Government will face intense calls to make sure if we do except the EU | :17:02. | :17:05.
it doesn't harm trade. A look at other stories | :17:06. | :17:13.
from across the country. A man has admitted killing his baby | :17:14. | :17:22.
son at his home in East Kilbride. David Sinclair, who is 34, inflicted | :17:23. | :17:27.
injuries so severe on five--month-old Joshua, that the | :17:28. | :17:31.
child died in hospital hours later. Sinclair pleaded guilty to culpable | :17:32. | :17:35.

needs extra time to complete the project. The subway was suspended | :17:44. | :17:47.
from 2nd July. It is estimated the work may not be complete until the | :17:48. | :17:51.
middle of August. Police in Edinburgh have released | :17:52. | :17:56.
CCTV images of a woman whom officers want to trace in connection an | :17:57. | :18:01.
alleged hate crime on a bus. In it a woman and her children were | :18:02. | :18:03.
subjected to zenophobic comments. The Incep dent happened on #th May | :18:04. | :18:10.

now has a 100% stake in a planned multimillion pound windfarm off the | :18:17. | :18:21.
coast of Aberdeen. The ?300 million project has been marred with legal | :18:22. | :18:25.
problems with the US presidential nominee, Donald Trump objecting to | :18:26. | :18:29.
the plans on the grounds they would ruin the sfru his golf course. | :18:30. | :18:33.

bard's death. Supporters of Burns from around the | :18:42. | :18:45.
world have sent messages which are engraved on metal red roses, the | :18:46. | :18:48.
flower which is the subject of one of Burns' most famous works. | :18:49. | :18:54.

system. Hundreds of whale watchers in lower wick were treated to a | :19:09. | :19:12.
close encounter to a pod of or kas earlier today. Around ten of them | :19:13. | :19:15.
worked their way along the shore before briefly entering the harbour. | :19:16. | :19:19.
There have been many sightings of Wales around the Shetland's coast | :19:20. | :19:20.
during the past two weeks. Let's get the latest sport now - | :19:21. | :19:23.
here's Jonathan. The Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, | :19:24. | :19:26.
is hoping to strengthen his squad ahead of the Champions League | :19:27. | :19:31.
qualifier against Astana next week. Victory over Lincoln Red Imps last | :19:32. | :19:34.
night means the Scottish champions are into the third round and despite | :19:35. | :19:39.
the prospect of a tricky trek east, Here's our senior football | :19:40. | :19:42.
reporter Chris McLaughlin. After seeing off the Champions of | :19:43. | :19:53.
Gibraltar last night, Celtic were promoting a match against the | :19:54. | :19:57.
champions of England. A weekend friendly following a mid-week | :19:58. | :19:59.
mauling. It took 20 minutes for the Lincoln | :20:00. | :20:05.
backline to be breached, though. Lustig settled the nerves. That was | :20:06. | :20:10.
followed, shortly afterwards by this, Leigh Griffiths doing what he | :20:11. | :20:16.
does best - the Itches' fairy-tale fading fast and after Patrick | :20:17. | :20:20.
Roberts danced, jinxed and dinked his way down the right-hand side, it | :20:21. | :20:26.
was game and tie over and so a six hour flight to Kazakhstan awaits | :20:27. | :20:32.
next week. At the end of it, a side who will fancy their chances This | :20:33. | :20:35.
team are good. You know they have been in the Champions' League last | :20:36. | :20:43.
season. # I think they got points off Athletico Madrid, Benfica and | :20:44. | :20:46.
Galatasaray at home. We know the challenge but there is no excuse for | :20:47. | :20:51.
us. We know we are a big team and have to do a big job. We are looking | :20:52. | :20:55.
forward to it. The shock of Gibraltar all but forgotten, it is | :20:56. | :20:58.
onwards and eastwards in the push for progression. | :20:59. | :21:02.
Three other Scottish sides in European action today, | :21:03. | :21:03.
hoping to make progress in the Europa League qualifiers. | :21:04. | :21:10.
In fact one of those sides has already played their match. | :21:11. | :21:13.
Hearts are in action this evening at Tynecastle. | :21:14. | :21:15.
There for us tonight is our reporter Brian Mclauchlin. | :21:16. | :21:20.
Good evening from a sun-kissed Tyne castle where around 15,000 fans are | :21:21. | :21:27.
expected here to watch Hearts take on the Maltese minnows. They are 0-0 | :21:28. | :21:33.
after last week's first leg in Valetta. | :21:34. | :21:38.
Sam Nicholson is back into the starting 11 for the injured Kitchen | :21:39. | :21:41.
but one Scottish team has already been in action this afternoon. | :21:42. | :21:48.
Aberdeen travelled Latvia and they were 3-0 up from the first leg. And | :21:49. | :21:53.
one goal this afternoon secured another victory for the side. It was | :21:54. | :21:57.
the top goal scorer from last year, Adam Rooney scoring, with just 12 | :21:58. | :22:07.
minutes left. So a 4-0 aggregate for Aberdeen. Another Scottish club in | :22:08. | :22:15.
action, kicking off at 7 O'Clock in Copenhagen, Hiberian with arguably | :22:16. | :22:19.
the biggest task of all the Scottish clubs, 1-0 down after defeat last | :22:20. | :22:22.
week. They lost a gel after 15 seconds but wouldn't it be terrific | :22:23. | :22:27.
with Hearts and Hiberian could join Aberdeen in the third qualifying | :22:28. | :22:29.
round of the yoria league next week. And there's live coverage | :22:30. | :22:33.
of the action tonight After just a year in the job, | :22:34. | :22:35.
Brian McClair has stepped down The former Celtic and Manchester | :22:36. | :22:42.
United forward was tasked with developing a strategy | :22:43. | :22:48.
for the future of the game, but it's understood he'd become | :22:49. | :22:50.
increasingly frustrated at the amount of time | :22:51. | :22:52.
he was spending in boardrooms. The BBC understands the SFA will now | :22:53. | :22:55.
re-asses the role before Golf's Senior Open Championship | :22:56. | :22:58.
is under way at Carnoustie with some of the most famous names | :22:59. | :23:06.
in the game taking part. And quite a trio teed off | :23:07. | :23:08.
early this afternoon - Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, | :23:09. | :23:11.
playing alongside eight times major winner Tom Watson and the ever | :23:12. | :23:12.
colourful John Daly. Few players can carry off troirs | :23:13. | :23:25.
like this, but when you are John Daly and the birdies keep coming, | :23:26. | :23:28.
nobody is too worried about dress code. He was up and down at Karen | :23:29. | :23:40.
Ousy today but always colourful -- Carnoustie. Greats can get stuck in | :23:41. | :23:46.
a rut but the trick is getting out of them. | :23:47. | :23:51.
And what of Colin Montgomerie, not exactly rolling in clover after his | :23:52. | :23:55.
exertions at the Open in Troon last weekend. : He birdied the 12th. | :23:56. | :24:04.
Household names everywhere. Jimenez, a relative youngster, finished | :24:05. | :24:08.
2-over. And Bernard Langer almost a perfect finish on one-under. A | :24:09. | :24:16.
number of players, including Carlos Franco sharing an early lead. That's | :24:17. | :24:18.
how the sport Let's see what surprises the weather | :24:19. | :24:22.
is planning for us next. Not many I hope after the last | :24:23. | :24:30.
couple of days. We have had fairly extreme weather | :24:31. | :24:35.
over the last couple of days. Today provided us with fairly pleasant, | :24:36. | :24:40.
settled summary conditions. As ever, our weather watchers have sending us | :24:41. | :24:45.
fantastic images. This taken earlier today in Argyll and Bute. It has | :24:46. | :24:50.
been a fine day of weather in St Andrew's in Fife and this positively | :24:51. | :24:56.
tropical image which came in from us from the Isle of Harris in the | :24:57. | :24:59.
Western Isles. For this evening and tonight we'll continue to see cloud | :25:00. | :25:03.
increasing. Some fine spells of sunshine in the east. However this | :25:04. | :25:08.
weather front already making inroads across Western Scotland and that | :25:09. | :25:11.
continues to go north-eastwards during tonight. Some fairly heavy | :25:12. | :25:16.
pulses of rain to come across the West Highlands, the Argyll area and | :25:17. | :25:20.
perhaps Dumfries and Galloway. The far north-east and Shetland holding | :25:21. | :25:22.
on to the driest, clearest conditions tonight. Temperatures | :25:23. | :25:27.
here around 9 or 10 Celsius. Wide lid, though, around 13-16. So a | :25:28. | :25:32.
fairly muggy and humid night to come once again. Into tomorrow, it dawns | :25:33. | :25:37.
on a fairly cloudy note with further outbreaks of rain. However, an | :25:38. | :25:40.
improving picture for most of us during the day, that improvement | :25:41. | :25:43.
coming in fairly quickly across western Scotland. The rain gradually | :25:44. | :25:47.
clearing away to the east, come the afternoon. A legacy of cloud, | :25:48. | :25:50.
though, across some eastern areas tomorrow afternoon. One or two sharp | :25:51. | :25:57.
showers, too, across the likes of East Lothian, the Borders, perhaps | :25:58. | :26:02.
Angus and Aberdeenshire. For most parts come tomorrow afternoon, we | :26:03. | :26:05.
should see brightness andshine. Light winds and highs of around 20, | :26:06. | :26:10.
and it'll feel pleasantly warm once again. Into the evening, we should | :26:11. | :26:13.
see any remaining showers clearing away into the North Sea, to leave | :26:14. | :26:18.
fine conditions for most of us, with some spells of brightness andshine. | :26:19. | :26:22.
Into Saturday, we start the day with a lot of dry weather, however, cloud | :26:23. | :26:26.
quickly increasing from the west and this next batch of rain crossing the | :26:27. | :26:30.
country, becoming lighter and patchier in the east during the day. | :26:31. | :26:35.
Again with any sunshine temperatures will peak at 21. At this stage for | :26:36. | :26:40.
Sunday, it looks like some showers and longer spells of rain, spells | :26:41. | :26:43.
ofshine and warm in the sunshine. That's the forecast. | :26:44. | :26:46.
Thank you very much. I'm still drooling over that light in Harris. | :26:47. | :26:51.
It was beautiful. Here are the main headlines: | :26:52. | :26:56.
BBC Scotland has learned that the cost of the inquiry | :26:57. | :26:58.
into the Edinburgh trams fiasco is already more than ?3.7 million. | :26:59. | :27:01.
The Scottish government set it up two years ago to look into why | :27:02. | :27:04.
the project came in late and at more than double its original budget. | :27:05. | :27:07.
A manhunt is under way for two men of Middle Eastern appearance | :27:08. | :27:10.
who attempted to abduct a serviceman out jogging near his airbase - | :27:11. | :27:13.
He was approached by the two men, one of whom tried to grab him, | :27:14. | :27:18.
but he was able to fight him off and run away. | :27:19. | :27:21.
The police say while the motive for the attack remains unclear, | :27:22. | :27:23.
RAF Marham is home to the UK's Tornado fighter jets. | :27:24. | :27:31.
I'll be back with the headlines at 8 and the late bulletin just | :27:32. | :27:42.
Until then, from everyone on the team - right | :27:43. | :27:45. |
