the weekend, and it will be gradually turning fresher for all. | :00:00. | :00:00.
That's all from the BBC News at One, so it's goodbye from me. | :00:00. | :00:21.
Barack Obama tees off on the Old Course. With less than two weeks to | :00:22. | :00:35.
go, the parties are out on the election Trail once again. | :00:36. | :00:39.
Former US President Barack Obama landed in Edinburgh earlier this | :00:40. | :00:43.
morning, and is currently playing golf in St Andrews. | :00:44. | :00:45.
Mr Obama is due back in Edinburgh later to address a charity | :00:46. | :00:48.
fundraising event at the city's exhibition and conference centre. | :00:49. | :00:51.
Our reporter Steven Godden watched the ex-President tee off. | :00:52. | :01:00.
How are you doing? Where are you from? When you're a former president | :01:01. | :01:07.
of the United States, this passes for low-key. Barack Obama flew in | :01:08. | :01:11.
this morning, landing in Edinburgh and coming straight here to St | :01:12. | :01:15.
Andrews. Golf seems to be a popular past time for presidents past and | :01:16. | :01:21.
present. He chose to test himself here at the Old Course, the home of | :01:22. | :01:25.
golf. It was an unannounced visit but by the time he stepped on the | :01:26. | :01:30.
first two quite a crowd had gathered to watch. -- on the first tee. We | :01:31. | :01:43.
saw the police at the Old Course, got chatting with some friends and | :01:44. | :01:48.
found out it was Obama here so we came down. I've never seen him in | :01:49. | :01:52.
person, he's someone I admire greatly so it was nice to see him in | :01:53. | :01:56.
the fresh. Barack Obama was invited by Sir Tom Hunter the businessman. | :01:57. | :02:01.
Tonight he will give a speech at a charity dinner in Edinburgh. The | :02:02. | :02:07.
cost of the table starts at ?5,000. More than 300 children's charities | :02:08. | :02:11.
in Scotland will benefit. Security will be tight. It has been reviewed | :02:12. | :02:15.
following the terrorist attack in Manchester on Monday night. The | :02:16. | :02:20.
reason people here have had the opportunity to get much closer to | :02:21. | :02:23.
the former president, who in a short time or move up the fairway behind | :02:24. | :02:28.
me to one of the most famous holes in golf. Steven Godden, St Andrews. | :02:29. | :02:31.
The family of Barra teenager Laura MacIntyre, | :02:32. | :02:33.
who is in a critical condition in hospital following | :02:34. | :02:35.
the Manchester attack, have described her as "strong-willed | :02:36. | :02:37.
In a statement issued through Police Scotland, | :02:38. | :02:40.
they said that they know the 15-year-old is in | :02:41. | :02:42.
the best possible place, and receiving the best care. | :02:43. | :02:44.
Earlier, the parents of 14-yearold Eilidh Macleod, | :02:45. | :02:47.
who attended the concert with Laura and was killed in the bombing, | :02:48. | :02:50.
said that words could not express how they felt | :02:51. | :02:52.
Two bodies have been recovered from the sea, | :02:53. | :02:58.
after a light aircraft crashed into the waters off | :02:59. | :03:00.
The alarm was raised after the aeroplane, | :03:01. | :03:05.
which took off from Oban Airport, failed to arrive in Carlisle | :03:06. | :03:08.
Police say the bodies of two men and some wreckage from the aircraft | :03:09. | :03:12.
were recovered in the sea, near to Skipness in Argyll. | :03:13. | :03:15.
Officers are trying to establish the identities of the men. | :03:16. | :03:18.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is looking into the incident. | :03:19. | :03:23.
A man has been seriously injured in an incident in Govan in Glasgow. | :03:24. | :03:26.
Police say they received a report of a disturbance at a flat | :03:27. | :03:29.
A 35-year-old man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth | :03:30. | :03:34.
University Hospital, where his condition | :03:35. | :03:35.
Forensics officers have been examining the scene | :03:36. | :03:40.
Election campaigning has resumed in Scotland | :03:41. | :03:46.
after the paused prompted by the Manchester terror attack. | :03:47. | :03:49.
Politicians from all the parties are keen to get started again, | :03:50. | :03:52.
as a show of defiance to terrorism and to underline a commitment | :03:53. | :03:55.
I'm joined from the banks of the Clyde by our political | :03:56. | :04:01.
Brian, that Manchester attack remains at the top of the agenda. | :04:02. | :04:10.
It does, Sally. Jeremy Corbyn making a speech today in the last hour, | :04:11. | :04:18.
stressing that those who are responsible for the Manchester | :04:19. | :04:21.
outrage are those who carried it out, but also making a link between | :04:22. | :04:28.
terror in the UK and the UK's involvement in global conflict, | :04:29. | :04:30.
particularly in the Middle East. This has prompted a range of | :04:31. | :04:34.
reactions in Scotland. Kezia Dugdale stressing again that the | :04:35. | :04:39.
responsibility lies with those who carried it out, but saying it is a | :04:40. | :04:44.
complex matter. But also saying that one must be aware of efforts to | :04:45. | :04:49.
counter terrorism but also to counter the causes of terror. Read | :04:50. | :04:53.
the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats are really attacking Mr | :04:54. | :04:57.
Corbyn very hard indeed. They regard his remarks as cross and | :04:58. | :05:00.
insensitive. The Tories saying Al-Qaeda leader were targeting | :05:01. | :05:06.
Britain for terror attacks before the conflict in Afghanistan and | :05:07. | :05:11.
Iraq. The response from the SNP a bit more nuanced. Nicola Sturgeon | :05:12. | :05:19.
saying there must be no excuse given to the terrorists but equally saying | :05:20. | :05:24.
there must be a view that is aware of the impact of Britain's | :05:25. | :05:29.
involvement in global matters. She made a statement saying we are | :05:30. | :05:31.
living in a dangerous and unpredictable world and all actions | :05:32. | :05:38.
and interventions overseas should be properly thought through. What else | :05:39. | :05:43.
have the Scottish party leaders been up to? Each pursuing their own | :05:44. | :05:46.
agenda. Labour arguing they are in pole position in several key SNP | :05:47. | :05:54.
seats. The Conservatives are talking about delays in receiving NHS | :05:55. | :06:01.
treatment. The Liberal Democrats also talking about the NHS but | :06:02. | :06:05.
talking about there being some 200 GPs in Scotland from the EU and | :06:06. | :06:09.
arguing that that is placed in jeopardy by Brexit. The SNP said the | :06:10. | :06:15.
Conservatives are planning five more years of austerity, they say that is | :06:16. | :06:19.
disclosed by the Institute for Fiscal Studies and they argue Labour | :06:20. | :06:25.
are not keen or eager to tackle that. Thank you. | :06:26. | :06:28.
One more local authority has managed to form an administration. | :06:29. | :06:30.
A Labour minority administration is to run West Lothian Council, | :06:31. | :06:33.
even though the SNP has more councillors locally. | :06:34. | :06:35.
I'm joined by our local government correspondent Jamie McIvor. | :06:36. | :06:38.
Jamie, there are quite a few councils where the single biggest | :06:39. | :06:41.
It's now three weeks since the council elections, | :06:42. | :06:46.
and there wasn't a single council where one political party | :06:47. | :06:49.
That means coalitions or minority administrations | :06:50. | :06:54.
are the order of the day, and there's no rule that says | :06:55. | :06:57.
the biggest party has to be part of the administration. | :06:58. | :07:01.
But, yes, there are a number of prominent examples of the biggest | :07:02. | :07:04.
For instance, the SNP has the most councillors in North Lanarkshire, | :07:05. | :07:10.
The SNP's also been left out in Moray, for example. | :07:11. | :07:15.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives are the opposition in South Ayrshire | :07:16. | :07:18.
and Dumfries and Galloway, despite their size. | :07:19. | :07:21.
Overall, the SNP is the most powerful party in local government, | :07:22. | :07:24.
but it doesn't hold quite so much power as you might have predicted, | :07:25. | :07:28.
By the way, still no administrations agreed in two places, | :07:29. | :07:33.
On another glorious day let's get the weather forecast for today. | :07:34. | :07:49.
Good afternoon. Those temperatures are continuing to rise as we head | :07:50. | :07:55.
through the afternoon with almost wall-to-wall sunshine and low cloud | :07:56. | :08:00.
shifting from Shetland as we speak. We could see highs of 22, 24 for | :08:01. | :08:08.
Orkney, widely up to 28 the northern Scotland, possibly even 30 degrees. | :08:09. | :08:15.
Even in coastal areas still into the low 20s. A lovely end to the day, | :08:16. | :08:19.
dry overnight with long clear spells. You may see... It stays dry | :08:20. | :08:32.
and it will be another muggy night. We'll have high pressure tomorrow | :08:33. | :08:37.
with warmer or hot air, this weather front approaching. As it bangs into | :08:38. | :08:42.
the hot air, it's going to release some energy and some quite heavy, | :08:43. | :08:46.
thundery downpours as well. Actually the quiet before the storm, there is | :08:47. | :08:52.
a warning in place for the rain as it crosses the country tomorrow. | :08:53. | :08:55.
That's from lunchtime until the early hours of Sunday. But actually | :08:56. | :09:02.
it starts of dry, some sunshine. Then we see the band of rain moving | :09:03. | :09:08.
in. During the afternoon though showers becoming more volatile | :09:09. | :09:10.
particularly across northern Scotland, triggered by the high | :09:11. | :09:14.
temperatures will see across more northern areas. Staying dry for the | :09:15. | :09:19.
far north and the Northern Isles. Becoming brighter and drier in the | :09:20. | :09:20.
South. Sally Magnusson will be | :09:21. | :09:23.
here with much more news, sport and weather in Reporting Scotland | :09:24. | :09:26.
at 6:30pm tonight. From everyone on the lunchtime, | :09:27. | :09:28.
do have a very good afternoon. | :09:29. | :09:32. |
