changing times are putting projectionists out of work. First of

all, Samsung's release of new weird and wonderful gadget is not a moment

too soon. Today, the company released its latest numbers and they

were well below expectations. Let's outline them for you. The company

have an operating profit of $7.8 billion, that is an 18% fall in the

previous quarter. In tough times are coming. Samsung is bracing itself

for its weakest my phone profit growth in seven years as Apple tries

to grow its share of China's $80 billion market. Add to that,

Samsung's mobile business will come under pressure when Apple starts to

sell its phones through China Mobile on January 17. Let's get more now

from our Asia business hub in Singapore where Ashley joins me now.

Ashley, Samsung are having a tricky time and Apple have a lot to do with

that. That is right. Apple is trying to move into the Chinese space with

China Mobile. Some say that this will improve its prospects in China

but it still faces a lots of competition not only from Samsung

but also local Chinese rivals. Analysts have been telling me they

believe that Samsung is better placed in China and that is because

it shatter GL creating a wide range of devices has proved well in

emerging markets. Because of this, they believe that Samsung will do

better. That's the good is going on in technology in Asia in general. We

had a warning from HTC yesterday, its results were pretty poor. It

shows that some of these tech giants in Asia are finding it difficult at

the moment. Samsung and HTC have had disappointing results and companies

like HP and IBM have had poor results recently. There is

apparently one bright spot on the horizon. This could be in the dart

services and cloud computing areas. Software that allows your devices to

talk to each other. And was believed this could be a growth area in the

Asian market and as we move forward. All the while, in spite of all of

this, the phone makers will try to get their slice of the market,

Samsung, as I said, is trying to create a lots of devices in every

sector imaginable. Sunni is trying to do its part, targeting the high

end user. Trying to become the apple of the android world and China

highway are trying to emulate Samsung. A good update their from

Singapore on what is going on in terms of the numbers. What about the

number is closer Samsung, Sunni, many are desperate to have the

device that will catch everybody's attention. We are talking about the

Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show which has managed to escape the

crazy weather in the United States. Companies that are showing off their

latest device is there are hoping to grab attention. Las Vegas in January

and gadgets have taken the place of gamblers as this town's biggest

money spinners. Thousands of new products which promised to change

the way we are living are fighting for attention. In the preview event,

the trends are clear. Is the importance of these. Everything is

controlled connected to a smart phone. What is here? This drives as

fast as most people can run. If it hits a jump it will get a metre of

air. Is a toy? This is an electric toothbrush. It gives you real time

information of how well you brush your teeth. It has three members of

the family and Lucy has not brushed their teeth for two weeks. Wearable

technology is big. This is June. It measures sun exposure and gives

personalised sun protection advice. It measures the sun and you read it

on your smartphone? There is also the world's first Coast smart phone

and a number of devices to measure what is happening to you and your

home. From a sleek monitor to mother, which collects information

around the House. And there are are aerial vehicles or drones. We took

one outside to put it through its paces. What kind of uses are people

filing for these vehicles? For agriculture. Monitoring crops.

Search and rescue. They can throw some big in the air quickly without

having to get a fully manned helicopter around. When it comes to

new technology, Las Vegas is the place to see the big picture. Many

Senate they have approved Janet Yellen's nomination to head the US

Federal reserve. The vote may hurt the first woman to lead the central

bank in its 100 year history. The focus is on fighting unemployment

and many predict she will maintain low interest rates until the

recovery is fully entrenched. She begins on the 1st of February. It is

a busy time for the U.S. Senate because it will take a critical test

vote on whether to reinstate expired benefit pay-outs for the long-term

unemployed. The vote was originally scheduled for Monday evening but was

postponed to accommodate senators who have not yet arrived in

Washington from their two-week holiday break. Jobless benefits

affect 3 million Americans. A report is likely to show that in 2013 it

was the strong this year for the UK car market since 2007. Figures from

the Society of motor Manufacturers are expected to show that 2.2 6

million vehicles were registered last year. That is a 10.5% increase

on 2012 sales numbers. It would mean the UK overtook friends to become
