Now for the latest financial news with Sally

:00:00.:00:00.

Twitter shares slump further as it fails to attract new users.

:00:00.:00:26.

Plus, back to school, from flower arranging to learning

:00:27.:00:29.

Serbian, we look at the booming business of adult education

:00:30.:00:33.

Also in the programme: Janet Yellen fails to bring calm to financial

:00:34.:00:45.

Rico Hizon is tracking the losses in Asia. But first:

:00:46.:00:52.

We start with Twitter, because the social media site is continuing

:00:53.:00:54.

Twitter's shares have slumped in after hours trading

:00:55.:00:58.

after its latest results disappointed investors again.

:00:59.:01:00.

They are worried Twitter is simply failing to grow its business.

:01:01.:01:02.

Twitter made revenue of $710 million in the three months to December.

:01:03.:01:07.

That was up 48% on the same period in the previous year.

:01:08.:01:10.

So far, so good, but here's the problem.

:01:11.:01:19.

Twitter had 320 million monthly active users in the period, that's

:01:20.:01:21.

That number was unchanged on the previous three months.

:01:22.:01:25.

In fact, if you strip out people receiving tweets via text message,

:01:26.:01:28.

Twitters shares have lost more than two-thirds

:01:29.:01:31.

And they are worth a little more than half what they

:01:32.:01:36.

Investors had been getting used to earning reports from Twitter with

:01:37.:02:02.

bad news about how many uses they were attracting. What they weren't

:02:03.:02:09.

ready for was the number falling. -- users. That more than anything

:02:10.:02:15.

explained their initial dive after the report came out. Bear in mind,

:02:16.:02:20.

it has fallen by two thirds in the last year as investors apparently

:02:21.:02:26.

lose faith that all the active tweeters can be translated into

:02:27.:02:32.

business. Can their latest efforts to improve their service allow it to

:02:33.:02:38.

turn the corner? They want to attract users once more and a way to

:02:39.:02:46.

make more money from then. Twitter putts boss tried to sound up beat.

:02:47.:02:54.

-- them. -- Twitter's. We believe we can create a connected audience that

:02:55.:02:57.

watches together and can talk with one another in real-time. Twitter

:02:58.:03:05.

has been alive for ten years now and we will continue to drive in the

:03:06.:03:09.

future. The other question prompted by their problems and especially its

:03:10.:03:13.

collapsing share price is does the company now become an irresistible

:03:14.:03:18.

takeover target for other players in the technology sector? Check your

:03:19.:03:24.

Twitter feed for updates. (LAUGHING). Thank you.

:03:25.:03:27.

Tim Danton is Editor-in-chief of PC Pro magazine.

:03:28.:03:31.

Raising a lot of questions there. Jack Dorsey, who has recently come

:03:32.:03:37.

back as Chief Executive, of course, the founder of Twitter. Came back

:03:38.:03:42.

only a few months ago and has made many changes. Talk us through what

:03:43.:03:48.

he is trying to do now. The interesting phrase he used in that

:03:49.:03:55.

live feed was that there was this idea of a connected daily audience.

:03:56.:04:01.

That is his vision. He wants all other stations to happen on Twitter.

:04:02.:04:09.

He wants us to be connected. -- communications. Let's say you happen

:04:10.:04:15.

to be caught up in some sort of event. You can then simply streamed

:04:16.:04:19.

the video there and then and everything will start concentrating

:04:20.:04:24.

around you. He also mentioned Twitter is something like ten years

:04:25.:04:29.

old and the real problem, really, is that the user numbers are not going

:04:30.:04:36.

up, are they? It has hit a wall. There seems to be some sort of

:04:37.:04:41.

barrier around the 300 million mark. It has been a problem for a while.

:04:42.:04:46.

You can imagine why Wall Street has been concerned. To slump, in such a

:04:47.:04:53.

new vital service, and then for it to go down, Facebook, for example,

:04:54.:04:58.

is that 1.4 billion users, and the newcomers like WhatsApp and

:04:59.:05:02.

Snapchat, where all the young people are going, it starts to make Twitter

:05:03.:05:07.

look a little bit old. So, as we said earlier, perhaps it is an

:05:08.:05:14.

irresistible takeover target. Who is hovering? There are many. Microsoft

:05:15.:05:19.

I can definitely see going for it. Google could do it. If you look at

:05:20.:05:27.

Google Plus, it shows you how difficult it is to make a platform

:05:28.:05:34.

like this. Plus never worked for then. Facebook? I don't really see

:05:35.:05:42.

that happening. -- them. Thank you for coming in. And of course, there

:05:43.:05:47.

is a lot more on our website. And many of us are on Twitter as well.

:05:48.:06:02.

Is to follow a there. -- So follow us there.

:06:03.:06:03.

Let's turn to US interest rates now, because they could be staying where

:06:04.:06:06.

US Federal Reserve Chair, Janet Yellen, has poured cold water

:06:07.:06:10.

on the prospect of a second rise in interest rates any time soon.

:06:11.:06:14.

In her testimony to Congress, she warned financial conditions

:06:15.:06:16.

in the US have become "less supportive" of growth.

:06:17.:06:18.

The US central bank raised interest rates by 0.25% for the first time

:06:19.:06:21.

How is all that playing out on Asian markets?

:06:22.:06:25.

Rico Hizon, Japan closed today, but Hong Kong opened. A funny week.

:06:26.:06:30.

Indeed. What you can see right now in the market, mostly Red Arrows.

:06:31.:06:35.

Hong Kong, South Korea, they have joined the downward trend across the

:06:36.:06:46.

region. As you mentioned, Japan is really taking this well deserved

:06:47.:06:51.

break after the steep falls on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is closed

:06:52.:06:55.

today because of a public holiday. But the biggest losers are Hang

:06:56.:07:04.

Seng. China Mobile as well shedding 4%. And then Korea, young they,

:07:05.:07:15.

losing 2%. -- Hyundai. This ongoing concern over the global economy is

:07:16.:07:17.

continuing to impact regional market. This was confirmed by the US

:07:18.:07:24.

bank chairman in her speech to Congress. Thank you. Good to see

:07:25.:07:26.

you. We are also continuing

:07:27.:07:29.

our series this week Millions of adults across

:07:30.:07:31.

the UK are heading back to school. For some, it's simply

:07:32.:07:35.

an opportunity to learn a new skill For others it's a more serious

:07:36.:07:38.

avenue back into the world of work. Alice Baxter went back

:07:39.:07:42.

into the classroom, to try her hand You don't want to have one

:07:43.:07:49.

flower... Do you know your flowers? No? Would you like to? I don't know

:07:50.:07:58.

the names of any of these. I just think, that looks nice. If you are

:07:59.:08:02.

applying for a job in a flower shop you would be in trouble.

:08:03.:08:06.

(LAUGHING). These are two of the millions of UK adult learners

:08:07.:08:09.

willing to pay for an authentic and novel experience. We decided to come

:08:10.:08:14.

because we are getting married later this year and we thought we could

:08:15.:08:18.

learn to do some table decoration. On the website they think it is a

:08:19.:08:27.

trend set to flow. -- grow. We focus on cooking and things like that.

:08:28.:08:33.

People come to learn directly from crafts people like Gus, textiles,

:08:34.:08:39.

Hitchens, the idea is to go and learn from people directly,

:08:40.:08:46.

professionals and their fields. -- kitchens. Sadly I don't think I

:08:47.:08:53.

could make this my job. But it is left it to something with my hands,

:08:54.:08:57.

something artistic, to learn a new skill, but I won't give up the day

:08:58.:09:05.

job just yet. But for those with employment needs, the government

:09:06.:09:08.

will help fund this to get people back to work. We are offering an

:09:09.:09:13.

opportunity to get back to studying if they did not completed the first

:09:14.:09:19.

time around. Also, graphic design, and make-up, health and social care

:09:20.:09:24.

and childcare... Some of them are retraining or up skilling so they

:09:25.:09:28.

can go out and find work. The government budget for adult learning

:09:29.:09:36.

is $2.1 billion because they think students 19 and over will generate

:09:37.:09:46.

an additional 9.9 billion. You are very linguistically capable... When

:09:47.:09:52.

it comes to learning a foreign language, this woman's students are

:09:53.:09:57.

paying for themselves. Despite the economic rewards, Britain is falling

:09:58.:09:59.

behind many of European neighbours when it comes to supporting its

:10:00.:10:04.

adult learners. Alice Baxter, BBC News. It is definitely her

:10:05.:10:07.

strength, language. Luxury electric car maker Tesla says

:10:08.:10:09.

it lost $320 million Its shares have lost almost

:10:10.:10:16.

a third of their value since the beginning of the year on investor

:10:17.:10:21.

concerns about continuing losses. However they jumped in

:10:22.:10:23.

after hours trading after boss Elon Musk promised investors it

:10:24.:10:25.

would stop losing money this year. Tesla is also forecasting a 60%

:10:26.:10:28.

to 80% growth in vehicle sales. You are up-to-date. We will talk

:10:29.:10:41.

about Janet Yellen and other stories in the papers, that is coming up

:10:42.:10:43.

soon. Ministers are expected to confirm,

:10:44.:10:49.

today or tomorrow,

:10:50.:10:52.
