What do Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde and Ivanka Trump

:00:16.:00:17.

They have gathering to close the gender gap.

:00:18.:00:31.

Yep, some of the world's most powerful women take

:00:32.:00:34.

But they have got a big task, because according to some,

:00:35.:00:38.

closing the gap between sexes could take 170 years.

:00:39.:00:40.

And how to get from A to B in a whirlwind, and avoid those

:00:41.:00:44.

We are taking a look at the big business of choppers.

:00:45.:00:49.

Some of the world's most powerful people from business and politics

:00:50.:01:09.

It is part of an initiative called W20, set up by 20

:01:10.:01:15.

So who is going, and what is it all about?

:01:16.:01:23.

Attending the summit will be Christine Lagarde,

:01:24.:01:25.

the head of the IMF, Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany,

:01:26.:01:28.

and Ivanka Trump, daughter and special assistant

:01:29.:01:30.

to the President of the United States.

:01:31.:01:32.

The group wants to highlight the issue of women's economic

:01:33.:01:35.

participation and empowerment, while reducing the gender employment

:01:36.:01:37.

gap by 25% by 2025, and the World Economic Forum says

:01:38.:01:40.

that economic inequalities between the sexes could take 170

:01:41.:01:42.

The gap in economic opportunity between men and women,

:01:43.:02:08.

according to WEF, is now larger than at any point since 2008.

:02:09.:02:21.

Ann Francke is the CEO of Chartered Management Institute.

:02:22.:02:29.

Great to have you in the studio, especially at this horrible time!

:02:30.:02:36.

Can I pick up on this last point? Why is the gap higher than at any

:02:37.:02:41.

point since 2008? Did the financial crisis have any impact? Well, yes,

:02:42.:02:47.

that did have an impact, but also women have been stuck. They are not

:02:48.:02:51.

progressing to senior roles and obviously senior salaries are

:02:52.:02:55.

getting bigger. And as there are fewer women into senior roles, that

:02:56.:02:59.

gap is getting bigger. At the top that gap can be up to 35%. In pay,

:03:00.:03:06.

in terms of the difference? In pay, yes. I have been with the BBC for 15

:03:07.:03:11.

years and we have been relentlessly talking about story, a lack of women

:03:12.:03:17.

on boards, as CEOs, they have talked about quota systems, for example in

:03:18.:03:21.

Europe. It just doesn't seem to improve. It is a really stubborn

:03:22.:03:27.

problem, and there are a lot of causes. So I think one of the things

:03:28.:03:33.

that the W 20 is trying to do is break down the causes and get

:03:34.:03:37.

governments to act. When people set targets, when governments and

:03:38.:03:41.

industry work together and set targets, and relentlessly monitor

:03:42.:03:44.

them, you can get progress. In Britain we had a doubling of the

:03:45.:03:52.

number of women on boards from 12 to 25%. But if you don't constantly

:03:53.:03:56.

shine the light and track and treated as a business issue as well,

:03:57.:04:01.

then you get stuck. That is what has happened in most of the country. I

:04:02.:04:05.

wonder if women in power are doing enough? By imposing that is a

:04:06.:04:10.

question. Angela Merkel has been around for a long time, Christine

:04:11.:04:13.

Lagarde has been around for a long time, and now it is interesting,

:04:14.:04:16.

they have Ivanka Trump. I am wondering if those names I have just

:04:17.:04:20.

mentioned, who have been around for awhile have not done enough for the

:04:21.:04:23.

cause, if somebody like Ivanka Trump could reignite, or invigorate

:04:24.:04:28.

perhaps is the better word? Well, she is in a difficult position,

:04:29.:04:32.

isn't she? Although she is very genuine in her advocacy for women,

:04:33.:04:37.

and women in business, her father, the President, is at the same time

:04:38.:04:40.

doing policies which take women back, such as the funding Planned

:04:41.:04:49.

Parenthood, and if you look at his Cabinet, it is the most white and

:04:50.:04:53.

Mail in a generation. She is I am sure very sincere in her efforts.

:04:54.:04:57.

There is a lack of consistency perhaps in US policy, and in the US

:04:58.:05:02.

women have gone backwards as well. So have people done enough in

:05:03.:05:06.

leadership positions? Clearly not. Mail or female. But there's 170

:05:07.:05:13.

years, according to the World Economic Forum, is a staggering

:05:14.:05:16.

number. The fact that we are sitting and talking about it in 2017 is

:05:17.:05:23.

appalling. It is. Very briefly, our quota is the way forward? I think

:05:24.:05:28.

you have to have very proactive targets, and the gender pay gap

:05:29.:05:32.

legislation in the UK is a good step. Companies are going to have to

:05:33.:05:37.

publish all of these statistics and track their progress, and that

:05:38.:05:41.

public pressure should help. We really appreciate your time. Short

:05:42.:05:46.

and sweet, we have got to move on. I am getting told off in my ear!

:05:47.:05:48.

Global stock markets soared Monday, after the result of the first

:05:49.:05:51.

So are the gains continuing into the new trading day?

:05:52.:05:55.

Rico Hizon is in our Asia Business Hub in Singapore.

:05:56.:06:05.

Great to see you. Hello, my friend! I was asking this yesterday, I am

:06:06.:06:15.

wondering if the markets are getting a bit ahead of themselves, counting

:06:16.:06:18.

their chickens before they have hatched? Because you know you cannot

:06:19.:06:25.

rule out Marine Le Pen perhaps winning. That is right, there will

:06:26.:06:30.

be that fear when the second round of elections come about in about two

:06:31.:06:35.

weeks because time, but for now there is still a lot of enthusiasm

:06:36.:06:39.

over the French election results -- two weeks' time. Attention is moving

:06:40.:06:45.

to the US, where President Trump is due to unveil his much vaunted cuts

:06:46.:06:53.

to tax your Mac personal and corporate tax rates. And investors

:06:54.:06:58.

are looking at how this will benefit Asian businesses and investors but

:06:59.:07:03.

apart from those two factors, there are negative forces capping those

:07:04.:07:07.

gains in Asia, and that is North Korea. They marked a key military

:07:08.:07:11.

anniversary today and the US is launching a new diplomatic

:07:12.:07:16.

initiative to tackle Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes. So

:07:17.:07:19.

there are various issues right now that the markets are dealing with.

:07:20.:07:22.

Overall Asian stocks are mostly higher, with Tokyo, Hong Kong and

:07:23.:07:26.

soul well entrenched in positive territory. Shanghai has suffered a

:07:27.:07:32.

series of losses in the past two weeks amid concerns about a

:07:33.:07:35.

government crackdown on leveraged investing -- Seoul. Currently in

:07:36.:07:40.

positive territory. The euro, which scaled five-month highs on Monday,

:07:41.:07:46.

remains firm in Asian trading. Did you ever fly in a helicopter around

:07:47.:07:52.

Singapore? No, I haven't. I don't have the money! You need money for

:07:53.:07:56.

that. Rubbished! I have seen your pay packet. It puts us to shame!

:07:57.:07:59.

If you despise waiting in traffic while trying to get to meetings,

:08:00.:08:02.

would you consider commuting via a helicopter?

:08:03.:08:04.

The world's top chopper firms gathered in Singapore recently,

:08:05.:08:06.

and my colleague Sharanjit Leyl went for a browse.

:08:07.:08:09.

If you're in the market for a new helicopter,

:08:10.:08:13.

or a state-of-the-art drone, then this is the place for you.

:08:14.:08:17.

This is Asia's first show dedicated to rotorcraft.

:08:18.:08:20.

And just about every big firm is here, hawking products.

:08:21.:08:26.

So let's go see what is on offer, and who buys them.

:08:27.:08:33.

Well, this is the Airbus H160 helocopter.

:08:34.:08:37.

Is one of the biggest I have ever seen. And this is a representative

:08:38.:08:42.

from Airbus. The cost of a helicopter,

:08:43.:08:43.

in the basic version, it should be around,

:08:44.:08:55.

in 2017, all included, That is a lot of money,

:08:56.:08:57.

so who buys these things? For crude changes on oil rigs. --

:09:04.:09:13.

and it can be used as a long-range Finally, it is public services,

:09:14.:09:16.

which might include search-and-rescue missions,

:09:17.:09:19.

and others who need this size Let's find out who some

:09:20.:09:21.

of these buyers are. This man has just placed an order

:09:22.:09:31.

for three helicopters at the show, He is with a Philippine-based

:09:36.:09:41.

let's say they arrive in Manila, we fly them to their meeting

place, to a helipad. They have their meeting

:09:52.:09:54.

in two hours. Make a big deal happen,

:09:55.:09:56.

and give jobs to a lot of people. So business aviation really provides

new market for helicopters. But these companies
