Ireland welcome the champions of Scotland Glasgow Celtic for a

Champions League qualifying tie. 5,000 fans will be show horned into

little animosity between these set of fans for what should be an

intriguing first leg clash. Neil Lennon brings his side to North

Belfast very wary of the Cliftonville challenge. Celtic may

have reached the last 16 of the Champions League last year, but

Lennon described this game as a potential banana skin. Welcome to

like to be home? Wonderful. First time in my career I have come back

for a competitive game. The welcome I've had and the hospitality has

can get in the box and score goals. I'm sure he will be asked to link in

tonight and defend in midfield. He has been exceptional last year, last

season. This is a big stage. Hopefully he can perform. You liked

it is. Beautiful night. Capacity crowd. A lot of noise. If you can't

play on these nights you shouldn't be playing football. Cliftonville

football club were determined to have this game at solt tud. They

could have moved it to a bigger venue. They put in extra seating to

make sure as many of their fans could enjoy this night? The Chairman

and the volunteers. It's a fantastic sight tonight. Gerrard and his

directors deserve so much credit. I know how much pride and passion goes

into this football club. Let us hope the game reflects what has been a

complacent? I think so. I think they have let a lot of goals in

preseason. That is a strong defence he has out tonight. Mulgrew is

missing. Playing preseason games is different from playing the Champions

this. They are very emotional. The it's a great night for them. Look at

moment, has gone. That is exactly what you want from your centre

forward. It's a really difficult job. He came into his own half. His

back to the game. The best thing he can do there is draw a free-kick.

That is what he does. Super centre forward play. By a man who should

know all about it. It's the hard part of the job. It's the

unglamorous bit. He is used to scoring goals. He is a confident guy

Conor Devlin. This game will not phase him. The lights are on here

they won't be cut out. What is the difference when you are paying a

full-time side like Celtic? Look at them on the pitch. Physically, you

can see there is a major difference. Sometimes it's that. You talked

about Joe Gormley, he was pushed off the ball easily. Sometimes, you

know, these guys are big, strong athletes. It's easy for them. To me,

that was always the big thing that in theibly different. Technically

they will be more astute more comfortable with the ball. That is

down to playing every day. I found the physique was the thing that the

most weeks he take it is and holds it in. It's the strength of Wilson,

at centre half, he brushes him off the ball and Celtic have it back.

interested to get another look at it. Lustig makes a run to the

near-post. I don't know who tracks him. He is up higher than everybody.

He runs. Nobody seems to go with him. Devlin comes to deal with it.

Can't get through the bodies. A poor goal to give away. They will be

disappointed. Great delivery from the set-piece. Devlin would think he

should have stayed at home. No-one goes with him. He is bigger and

stronger and wins it. A comfortable finish for him. There is a picture

of relief, Neil Lennon. I think Conor Devlin saw too late what the

danger was. He couldn't get through that scrum of bodies. It's Lustig'

run. He gets there first. If Devlin got there and punched it clear we

would be saying great goal keeping. That is the fine line sometimes.

Celtic can ease off a little bit now in terms of, they don't have to go

chasing it. There is Jim McGuinness. Ulster Final coming up somewhere

soon. It's been sunny in Donegal recently, I can tell you that. Sunny

surprised, are you? I'm not. When I saw the team I thought Neil Lennon

was taking it seriously. There is a big difference between preseason

games and Champions League. It doesn't matter who you are playing,

the boys want to get back to the Champions League and get into their

the qualifying Group. They put a professional performance in. 2-0 at

half-time, could have been four or five. Cliftonville did well. It's

the strength, physically Celtic are too strong for them. We can hear

from Peter Murray. It was competitive. If anything you looked

the better of the sides. You conceded the corner which you

shouldn't have, you are one down. are kiss disappointing. To lose from

the set play Connor and George got into a mixup. We were doing well up

to this. The second you concede possession high up to Samaras, it

was special? It was a special level. It was a different goal. They both

have pace. The lads then are going to get it back up. We played well.

We had a bit of a go tonight. the standout performer he looks

comfortable? Without a he request of doubt he is our hope. You may be

looking for O'Carroll to freshen things up? We will be looking for a

few to freshen things up. It's a hot night. Celtic are attack minded they

something to prove. He wants to take his place in there. He will want to

do that all the time. Look a bigger side? Physically you can see it.

Cliftonville have played well. Physically the boys have been

working all day and doing this. Celtic are powerful and

professional. It depends on their attitude. They came here and did a

professional job. Every time there is a set-piece you fear for

Cliftonville. Neil will want to finish it tonight to give him more

rest. Is how the goal came from that McMullan clearance which he almost

put in his own net? He did. He is a very good player, but I think his

heart was in his mouth here. He didn't really know where that was

going. In all fairness he dealt with it. Was that a knee or a shin.

have to get stuck in? It It's a big half-time team talk for Tommy. They

looked as if he they were disheartened going off the park. He

has to get belief back into the side. The first 10 minutes is very

important. Celtic get another goal, the game is over. If Cliftonville

can raise their game, get a few chances maybe get a few set-pieces

themselves. Play in Celtic's half for five or ten minute that is

builds confidence they can hopefully make a game of it. Cliftonville fan

We are starting to build for the season ahead and trying to get ready

for what will be another very long season. Obviously, we are trying to

move towards full fitness and the quest of another Champions League

campaign and obviously the SPL as well. Someone in the crowd say to

me, if you are talking to Jim will you remind him Celtic are ahead on

goals but Cliftonville are ahead on points? I think Cliftonville, I

suppose, they had a fantastic season last year. This is really the icing

on the cake for them in many respects in terms of the draw. For

the players themselves to be involved in this tie, it's something

that will live very inch their memory for the rest of their lives,

with his performance? When he landed on the ball he has always been

proud? Proud. Played for Cliftonville. They put hard work

would believe a couple of months ago players were throwing snowballs at

Fitness was a big factor. The commitment of the Celtic players was

a joy for everyone. I didn't expect that. I expected them to come and

win, after the results they have been getting in preseason that was a

good performance. Cliftonville were committed to the end, it will be

encouraging for the manager? Definitely. Tommy's philosophy on

the game was that it will be an entertaining game. 85 goals last

year in the Irish League is a huge amount of goals. Yeah, it made for

an entertaining game. We just felt before the game that the team he

picked, Neil picked, was always going to be, you know, if they got

in front. If their attitude to the game - we go back to that word, if

the attitude was spots on it would be a difficult night. If you give

the ball away in those areas against top-class areas they will punish

you. Celtic were a different class tonight? You expect that. If Celtic

play there is -- you can't put them in the same class. Celtic have great

players that can damage any team not just Cliftonville, they can damage

Barcelona. They can do all that. They can come here and if their

attitude is right they will do. It they done it tonight. Didn't score.

When they watch this little montage back of all the chances they created

at the start of the second-half they at the start of the second-half they

will be pleased. This is a really good clans. I don't think he really

expected it. Had he got a little bit more on it. A difficult chance, in

all fairness. I think he thought he was getting hit by the keeper.

Great play. Real belief in the team. The two centre halfs for Celtic were

excellent, Ambrose and Wilson, they stopped any chances that

Cliftonville created. Great movement by Cliftonville Yes. One touch,

better touch he should have done better with that. As Liam says

normally has a better first touch. If they got that tonight it could

have been - another chance. Was a great chance. Caldwell magnificent

first touch. He has to put his laces to it. Barry is not reknown for his

goalscoring exploits he admitted that afterwards. I'm glad. If he

said anything afterwards I wo have had a word with him. Tommy would

have been worried at half-time. Celtic were good first half.

Dominated first half. He would have been worryingedied at half-time. The

resilience in his team. They are not champions for nothing. They came

back and they showed that willingness to get back into the

game. They deserve credit for it. Celtic gave them no time on the

ball. It is still preseason for most of them. Do not let them get time on

the ball. People can become good players and under pressure it did

not stand up. After a disappointing first four games of the season

conceding 12 goals, will Neil Lennon be happy? Of course. That is not the

sort of teams he has been playing preseason. We talked before the

game, when we saw the team, it was game, when we saw the team, it was

worrying. Definitely. Again, the build up was all about not taking it

lightly. They posed a threat. The momentum and football is massive and

they have oiled up momentum. An emotional wave around at Solitude.

There was expectancy. They were professional and they did a very

The question was how much did you enjoy that? Immensely. A real

privilege to be back here. atmosphere, the occasion, it was

fantastic. We had a job to do and we did it well. 3-0 and it could have

been more. Yes, we hit the woodwork three times. It was important we

started well and we did with intensity. We moved the ball

quickly. James caused problems with his pace. I felt if we got the first

goal we could kill the game off and we did it before half-time.

Part-time against professional, Cliftonville did play some grey

fluid football. Yes, the reputation has been built on that. They had a

fantastic campaign last year. worried going into the game. People

told negatively preseason. The players performed well. They enjoy

the occasion. You said you felt, given you a last 16 and 7.5 weeks

ago playing in the cup final that this had come too early. But with

hindsight this may bring you on or do you feel aggrieved? I feel

aggrieved but that is the rules. It is a difficult thing to do. Try to

get preparations right and ready for match practice. Pre-match, the

Cliftonville players, how did you sense the performance, Liam Boyce,

he looked comfortable. Technically he is a very good player. A lot of

the Cliftonville work comes through him. He is very strong. They are

him. He is very strong. They are good athletes. Thank you for your

is the state of Scottish football. gets dropped down the ratings and

it's something I will never understand. When you get the last 16

you should be playing. Neal is right. The three weeks holidays and

they still give them stick because some of the boys wanted a holiday.

They only have three weeks. Did you sense that Neil Lennon was talking

about a height and build up and he was wearing and will be relieved

certain amount of pressure when you come over here. You recognise and

realise that. He came with young reserves. He had a bit of stick. He

is becoming a very good manager. He's a very composed in front of the

cameras and he has dealt with a lot of media, good and bad. He has done

himself a great deal of good. Tonight was a difficult experience

because Cliftonville had won the league, there was a lot of circus

surrounding the game. He made sure there was no slip-ups. A couple of

years ago he might have put a couple of kids in. They have to get to the

biggest tournament in world football. Do you see him maturing

into a great manager? Yes, he has only kicked ten buckets this

preseason. He has matured. He has grown into it. Everyone has given

him a chance. Is becoming a good manager. Two standout players,

Forrest and Stokes. Forrest had a few chances. And a good goal as

well. Yes, and the pace, it is well. Yes, and the pace, it is

difficult to defend. When you have that outlets and ability, they will

try to get the ball to him as often as possible. When you are a defender

it is intimidating, he shifts the ball so quickly. He has tried to put

it in the same corner twice. Perseverance, he has done well.

Stokes has had some stick. He has brought a lot on himself. To me, he

is the most skilful striker we have got. I have always rated him. Here's

hoping tonight is performance... Please the fans. When he really is

on top of his game and fancies it he is a really good player. He's always

had that reputation, he started off as asthma -- at Arsenal. You are

waiting for him to blossom into the player he is capable of. He was keen

to get on the ball. He looks so comfortable on the ball and so

skilful. One of the things people criticise him for is his work

ethic. He looked very lively. unlucky not to score. You have to

work for the team. For those of us who are joining as late as saving,
