Now on BBC News, we look ahead to Rio 2016 and assessed Team GB's

hopes in the Olympics and Paralympics.

Rio gold traditionally comes in the form of sand,

but that will change in the summer of 2016,

with the Brazilian city playing host to the first ever Olympic

and Paralympic games to take place

For many British athletes, their road to Rio actually began

back at the scene of such epic British success at Queen Elizabeth

Jessica Ennis-Hill, of course, headlined on what was

super Saturday back in 2012, and after taking time out

of the sport to become a mum for the first time,

the heptathlete proved she could still battle the best

in the world, competing here at the Olympic Stadium

she and the British team were Beijing bound.

Jade Jones became GB's first-ever Olympic tae kwon do champion

in 2012, and looks stronger than ever en route

But she isn't Britain's only Golden girl in the sport.

Bianca Walkden claimed an incredible world title in 2015.

And another woman with Olympic gold potential is Nicola Adams.

The London 2012 champion boxer won the inaugural European games crown.

title in Baku and also secured bronze at the World Championships.

The London Aquatic Centre is a stunning legacy from the 2012

games, but for the British swimmers, it

wasn't quite the scene of success that they hoped

They missed their medal target, and following the retirement

of four-time Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington,

some within the sport were rather concerned about its future.

However, the reversal of fortunes has been quite astounding.

Two years ago, few knew the name of Adam Peaty,

but he is now British swimming's main man.

It looks like it might be Peaty on the last

stroke, and the world champion is Adam Peaty of Great Britain.

Great Britain, are they going to win the gold medal

in the men's four by 200 metres freestyle?

And Peaty has got his second gold medal in this World Championships.

That is kind of the ethos we have now.

It is a new world record for team Great Britain.

Four-time Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds won 200

metres individual medley world gold in Glasgow,

but the one to watch is teenager Tully Kearney in Rio.

dressage team. Horse trials winner William Fox-Pitt suffered a serious

head injury in a fall in October, but he was released from hospital

month later and will continue his recovery at home. Britain haven't

won an Olympic hockey gold medal since 1988, and Wells both women and

men squad have qualified for real, it is the women who will go with the

greatest belief they can finally end of the search for the sport's major

honour. The warm up competition will be here in London. It is the

champions Trophy just two months before. It is where in 2015 the

Englishwomen made history. This European title will be decided by a

shoot out. She comes out to meet her. And

champions in dramatic style here. Just see how much it means. This is

nice! British laws weren't quite as

excitable. They topped the standing with 15 medals and France. The

women's pair of were particularly impressive. Just one the World

Championships in a way that feels a bit like we got out of execution. We

are in the right place for now. Two-time Olympic silver medallist

David Florence believes he is no better placed than ever to secure

slalom canoe major prize, having won gold in 2015. The para canoeists

will also be looking for success. Are the people here turned para

table tennis star Rob Davies secured his place with victory in the

Europeans. There was more success for world

record-breaking power lifter despite an injury, he claimed a first ever

European crown. Cycling has been one of Britain's most prolific sports.

The sport is now looking for a new generation of stars. The Molde

claims just three world silver medals and debris, but returned to
