JONATHAN EDWARDS: Welcome to the final session of the European

:00:14.:00:18.

Indoor Athletics Championships in Sweden. Just eight more gold medals

:00:18.:00:28.
:00:28.:00:33.

to be won to round off the action from Sweden's second city.

:00:33.:00:43.
:00:43.:00:59.

A really good start. Dasaolu takes It's all-or-nothing now for Holly

:00:59.:01:07.

Bleasdale. She's got it! Holly Bleasdale is the champion.

:01:07.:01:10.

Time flies buy when you are having fun and we are already at the final

:01:11.:01:14.

session of these Championships. Six medals for the British team so far.

:01:14.:01:24.
:01:24.:01:24.

We are all set for a golden finale. Asha Philip goes in the semifinals

:01:24.:01:29.

and hopefully the final of the women's 60m. The men's pole vault,

:01:29.:01:36.

Steve Lewis is up against the Olympic Champion Renaud Lavillenie.

:01:36.:01:42.

Chris Tomlinson - you are never sure how far he is going to go.

:01:42.:01:47.

Let's hope it is a good day. All the drama of the relays. A chance

:01:47.:01:53.

of a golden finale for the men's and the women's team. Christine

:01:53.:01:58.

Ohuruogu is stepping in to the women's team.

:01:58.:02:01.

This is the schedule for this afternoon. We will be looking back

:02:01.:02:05.

at this morning's session over the course of the next 30 minutes or so

:02:05.:02:09.

before the live action gets go. We have Steve Lewis in the pole vault.

:02:09.:02:15.

We have the men's long jump. Chris Tomlinson is going in that and we

:02:15.:02:24.

finish with the relays. In the studio, two golden oldies

:02:25.:02:30.

and a new one - Denise, Colin and Holly Bleasdale. A brilliant

:02:30.:02:35.

performance from yesterday. Let's performance from yesterday. Let's

:02:35.:02:40.

look back at your golden moment. This is a gold medal chance for

:02:41.:02:50.
:02:51.:02:56.

jump-off with the defending champion. It is all-or-nothing for

:02:56.:03:06.

Holly Bleasdale. She's got it! It's gold for Great Britain. Holly

:03:06.:03:12.

Bleasdale is the champion. The Great Britain team captain says

:03:12.:03:15.

congratulations to Britain's first medal of these Championships. It is

:03:15.:03:19.

gold in the women's pole vault. never experienced anything like

:03:19.:03:24.

that before. The jump-off was weird. that before. The jump-off was weird.

:03:24.:03:27.

I have never done one before. We both tied for the gold medal and we

:03:27.:03:31.

could take the gold together or we could carry on jumping. Whoever

:03:31.:03:36.

cleared the bar first would win the medal. I wanted to keep jumping. I

:03:36.:03:41.

was so happy. I wanted to run around. That's the best feeling I

:03:41.:03:48.

have ever felt before. I'm so happy. I can't believe it.

:03:48.:03:54.

There is the big gold medal. How does it feel to be holding that?

:03:54.:03:58.

feels good. Take us back to the qualification first of all. We

:03:58.:04:02.

thought you started off a bit shakely, perhaps? Yes. Is that

:04:02.:04:06.

fair? I had the worst warm-up of my career, which wasn't a great start.

:04:06.:04:10.

It was hard with 20 girls out there. They split the men into two pools

:04:10.:04:16.

and for us, they kept it as 20. It was difficult, the line was huge. I

:04:16.:04:19.

was always at the back of it. I tried to get through that. I didn't

:04:19.:04:23.

have a good start. I got through. That was a good start. How much

:04:23.:04:28.

were you aware of the fact that we are all expecting you to win?

:04:28.:04:34.

everyone was. It was a nice feeling going into it having everyone

:04:34.:04:38.

behind me thinking I could win gold. I just was happy to come in and win

:04:38.:04:43.

a medal. In the back of my mind, I wanted to win gold. I was always

:04:43.:04:46.

coming here for more experience and to win a medal. When I won gold, I

:04:46.:04:51.

was so happy. Let's take a look at that winning vault again. Talk us

:04:51.:04:57.

that winning vault again. Talk us through it. I was jumping well at

:04:57.:05:02.

the start. This jump was at the end. I had done 15 jumps already. I was

:05:02.:05:08.

tired, but I muscled my way through it and cleared it. The second time

:05:08.:05:15.

that you cleared 4.67m. The first time was a bit nerve-wracking?

:05:15.:05:18.

coped quite well with them pressure situations. I always seem to do it

:05:18.:05:24.

on the last attempt. When I did by 4.77m, that was my last attempt.

:05:24.:05:29.

4.77m, that was my last attempt. I'm good at that now. You had gone

:05:29.:05:33.

for 4.62m, three other athletes cleared that height. You missed it

:05:33.:05:39.

and chose to go to 4.67m? Yes, it was nerve-wracking and Scott told

:05:39.:05:43.

me to skip the bar, so I could try and get ahead of the field again.

:05:43.:05:49.

It was a good move. I'm glad I did it. When you haven't been in that

:05:49.:05:52.

circumstance before, what gives you the belief you can do it, you know,

:05:52.:05:57.

"I am going to do this right now"? I don't know. I feel really

:05:57.:06:01.

confident this indoor season. That was good for me to have that

:06:01.:06:04.

confidence coming into here. I had just put my jump together really

:06:04.:06:09.

well. I felt it is all-or-nothing now. I'm trying hard, but I always

:06:09.:06:13.

put the extra bit in for the last attempt. It always seems to pay off.

:06:14.:06:20.

Colin mentioned the confidence. You had the option of taking a gold

:06:20.:06:24.

medal with Rogowska, a guaranteed gold medal. You chose to gamble to

:06:24.:06:29.

stand up there on your own? Yeah, I would rather have the gold on my

:06:29.:06:33.

own than have it shared. I would rather risk and having silver. I

:06:33.:06:36.

was positive and confident that I could clear that bar over her. We

:06:37.:06:40.

both were tired at this point. It could have been an easy option. I

:06:41.:06:45.

am quite a fighter. I know I could clear it. I wanted gold to myself.

:06:45.:06:49.

Standing on the rostrum on your own is what you did. We can take a look

:06:49.:06:59.

at that now. What did Rogowska say for the jump-off? She wanted the

:06:59.:07:03.

gold. She was like, "Let's not have a jump-off." The coaches were like

:07:03.:07:09.

that as well. She was defending champion. There was a bit of argy-

:07:09.:07:16.

bargy going on? She wanted to, like, not jump. Very, very interesting.

:07:16.:07:23.

It certainly is. Where do you go from here now? You showed great

:07:23.:07:28.

grit and determination. What is next? I have another competition in

:07:28.:07:31.

Manchester. I'm looking forward to that. All the pressure is off now.

:07:31.:07:37.

I can enjoy myself. And I will go out for another training block in

:07:37.:07:47.
:07:47.:08:16.

Arizona and go from there to Nice feeling? Nice to watch it

:08:16.:08:21.

back? Really good. I have only been on it once before. A burning

:08:21.:08:25.

question - what cheesecake did you have? I didn't have any. Did you

:08:25.:08:29.

not? It wasn't on the menu. If we didn't know that, we would have got

:08:29.:08:35.

a special cheesecake in! That would have been nice. Overnight, some

:08:35.:08:40.

interesting news from America. 5.02m, a World Indoor Record. What

:08:40.:08:45.

was it like waking up to that with the gold medal? I was happy. She is

:08:45.:08:50.

a nice girl. We get on really well. When I woke up and watched the

:08:50.:08:54.

video, it was such a good jump. I have watched her vault already with

:08:54.:08:58.

my coach. I have took pointers. I'm happy for her. It gives me

:08:58.:09:04.

something to chase now. It is another girl over 5m, which is

:09:04.:09:10.

great for our sport. Denise, how impressed were you with the way

:09:10.:09:16.

Holly conducted herself? I was very impressed. It did look at some

:09:16.:09:20.

stages were you were unsure about what to do, you looked a bit

:09:20.:09:25.

nervous. Then you came through it. As the competition progressed, you

:09:25.:09:29.

seemed to get more and more confident, and you nailed it?

:09:29.:09:33.

was, like, a pressure situation and people have, like, applauded me and

:09:33.:09:37.

said I handled myself very well. In that situation, I was going with

:09:37.:09:40.

the flow and trying to be as positive as I could about the

:09:40.:09:45.

situation and when the jump-off - I have never been in a jump-off

:09:45.:09:50.

before, I didn't know what one was, so I waved to the crowd thinking I

:09:50.:09:55.

had come second. My coach was, like, you need to focus, you still have a

:09:55.:10:00.

jump. I was, like, OK. What is the difference to jumping indoors to

:10:00.:10:05.

outdoors? Indoors, there is no wind, no rain, no weather. It's another

:10:05.:10:08.

factor you don't have to think about. It is pretty similar. The

:10:08.:10:13.

wind and the rain is a big factor. It is easier to jump indoors. I

:10:13.:10:20.

prefer outdoors. We know all about the wind from the Olympic final.

:10:20.:10:24.

There is another pole vaulter on the track now, Steve Lewis. What

:10:24.:10:31.

sort of form is he in? He's changed a lot technically. He's had a

:10:31.:10:35.

couple of injuries like the bar landed on his shin and it took a

:10:35.:10:39.

while for him to recover from that. He looked really good in warm-up.

:10:39.:10:44.

He seems fired up. He has come into here with nothing to lose. The

:10:44.:10:47.

pressure is off. I think he will enjoy it and hopefully the result

:10:47.:10:55.

will come. Renaud Lavillenie in this and Bjoern Otto. All three of

:10:55.:10:59.

the Olympic medallists are here. It should be a good final. I'm looking

:10:59.:11:04.

forward to watch it. You mentioned technique. I'm going to talk

:11:04.:11:09.

technique with you. If you go back a year, you jumped 4.87m in France

:11:09.:11:14.

off a short pole, or a soft pole, a short run-up. Is there any sense of

:11:14.:11:18.

frustration that you haven't progressed from that and if you

:11:18.:11:22.

haven't, why not? I think I have progressed in so many other ways,

:11:22.:11:26.

like although it is not the height, everything else has come together,

:11:26.:11:29.

like I am much more confident and more controlled in the run-up. My

:11:29.:11:34.

technique is so much better and the technique I need to try and jump 5m,

:11:34.:11:38.

which is good that I am changing now and learning. I have to go a

:11:38.:11:42.

step backwards to get it right and I feel like I have not took any

:11:42.:11:49.

step backwards at all. Although I have not jumped 4.87m or above, I'm

:11:49.:11:53.

so much more consistent. We were going to look at the timetable

:11:53.:11:58.

going to look at the timetable earlier on. We can now. Shortly, we

:11:58.:12:08.
:12:08.:12:29.

have the women's 60m semifinal with Really high hopes in the two relays.

:12:29.:12:34.

Holly, what next for you now? You have the gold medal. Building up to

:12:34.:12:39.

the outdoor season, what is the plan? I will take a week's rest. I

:12:39.:12:43.

have Manchester, which is quite a small competition, I will go there

:12:43.:12:47.

and it is my local town so all my friends and family will come and

:12:47.:12:52.

watch. I will go out to America, do another stint, training. I am

:12:52.:13:00.

trying to work on the 4.60m poles more. First one outdoors will be

:13:00.:13:05.

New York Diamond League. Well done on yesterday. Brilliant to watch.

:13:05.:13:09.

Good luck for your preparations. Thanks. We will head out now for

:13:09.:13:14.

the women's 60m semifinals. Good afternoon to Paul Dickenson, Andrew

:13:14.:13:24.
:13:24.:13:40.

semifinal is to be negotiated. Asha Philip is in the second semifinal

:13:40.:13:43.

for Great Britain. Straightforward qualification. The first four to

:13:43.:13:52.

the final, which is at 5.15pm UK time. Amy Foster has a tough job on

:13:52.:14:02.
:14:02.:14:14.

four women who had run under 7.20. Asha Philip was ranked three in

:14:15.:14:19.

Europe and it was all change in the first round yesterday. We now have

:14:19.:14:24.

eight women who have gone under that time. Some really good

:14:24.:14:28.

performances, so to be honest, the four middle lanes here, if Amy

:14:28.:14:38.
:14:38.:14:51.

Foster were to break into that, European Championships last year.

:14:51.:14:57.

She didn't manage to when the 200 metres medal.

:14:57.:15:03.

Mariya Ryemyen it is a good 60m athlete. As, indeed, it is Jeremy

:15:03.:15:13.
:15:13.:15:17.

Lelievre, -- Ivet Lalova. Verena Sailer is the German

:15:17.:15:21.

champion, she won a medal at these championships four years ago. She

:15:21.:15:28.

is a better athlete now. Yulia Katsura is the new Russian

:15:28.:15:38.
:15:38.:16:13.

going into the final -- you could end up.

:16:13.:16:23.
:16:23.:16:32.

the middle. It is going to be Mariya Ryemyen who takes it from

:16:32.:16:37.

Ivet Lalova. As expected. They are getting quicker. We could see

:16:38.:16:44.

something pretty fast in the final. Mariya Ryemyen reverses the result

:16:44.:16:51.

of the heat. Ivet Lalova got the best start. After 10m, Mariya

:16:51.:16:56.

Ryemyen takes a metre out of the rest and hold sip right to the end.

:16:56.:17:06.
:17:06.:17:07.

Lower no vac macro comes back, but not enough. -- Ivet Lalova if.

:17:07.:17:13.

Looking relaxed. Not everybody gives everything in the semi-final.

:17:13.:17:20.

Remember Jimmy Vicaut yesterday. Who came back to get the gold medal.

:17:20.:17:30.
:17:30.:17:38.

A good performance from Mariya This is on the far four lanes.

:17:38.:17:43.

Dafne Schippers performing really well. Considering it is not her

:17:43.:17:48.

best event. It is all about power for strength with Mariya Ryemyen,

:17:48.:17:58.
:17:58.:18:15.

time of 7.20, and they were under that time. Asha Philip to come in

:18:15.:18:25.
:18:25.:18:25.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:18:25.:19:29.

Tumi. Coming through the middle, it will be Jimmy Vicaut, I think he

:19:29.:19:38.

got it. James Dasaolu of right. He was diving for the line, it will be

:19:38.:19:42.

very close, a photo-finish will decide this. Arms were going up

:19:42.:19:48.

around me, the French are not sure, Jimmy Vicaut is not sure.

:19:48.:19:53.

Congratulating Emmanuel Biron. This is very close. I think Jimmy Vicaut

:19:53.:19:59.

got it, it is coming up on the computer, under 6.5, Jimmy Vicaut

:19:59.:20:04.

for the first time becomes the French champion, in second place,

:20:04.:20:10.

or, he becomes European champion, the first time a Frenchman has

:20:10.:20:16.

taken that title. James Dasaolu with a superb clocking, the same

:20:16.:20:22.

time as that man. He takes the silver medal. It was so close.

:20:22.:20:29.

Just watch the start. James didn't get out quite as well, Jimmy Vicaut

:20:29.:20:34.

was in front. Maybe just ahead, now, a stretch for the line, Jimmy

:20:34.:20:43.

Vicaut, a little bit of momentum at the end, he up leans him just. --

:20:43.:20:53.
:20:53.:21:30.

and Andrew Cotter describes the in this one. Barbora Prochazkova.

:21:30.:21:40.
:21:40.:21:49.

And Nataliya Pohrebnyak, the indoor indoors so far. Running very well

:21:49.:21:58.

outdoors. Ezinne Okparaebo of Norway, as

:21:58.:22:02.

Steve was saying, they're getting quicker and quicker through at this

:22:02.:22:07.

event. Myriam Soumare, European 200 metres

:22:07.:22:10.

javelin three years ago in Barcelona, she took bronze in the

:22:10.:22:16.

100 metres. Asha Philip, winning the UK indoor

:22:16.:22:20.

title in Sheffield last month. She will have to go quicker to make it

:22:20.:22:24.

into the final and a chance of a medal.

:22:24.:22:29.

Jamile Samuel from the Netherlands, the youngest in this semi-final, 20

:22:29.:22:37.

years old. On the outside, Hanna-Maari Latvala,

:22:37.:22:47.
:22:47.:23:03.

spectators, to see Mariya Ryemyen running. Asha Philip. The three

:23:03.:23:08.

women inside her, will challenge her. Four will go through to the

:23:08.:23:18.
:23:18.:23:44.

lane seven, a bit of a twitch. I think Jamile Samuel might be in a

:23:44.:23:51.

bit of trouble here. The youngster from the Netherlands. Her looks

:23:51.:23:56.

betraying her rage and relative inexperience. I think that little

:23:56.:24:06.
:24:06.:24:16.

jog there might be her last serious Hanna-Maari Latvala. You have to

:24:16.:24:26.
:24:26.:24:32.

warning for Hanna-Maari Latvala, just a warning. I will live with

:24:33.:24:42.
:24:43.:25:01.

with this a little more, the do it all again, get into a zone of

:25:01.:25:05.

concentration. She will know if she runs to her potential, she should

:25:05.:25:15.
:25:15.:25:25.

faster than the others. Again, four to go through to this evening's

:25:25.:25:35.
:25:35.:25:54.

Soumare takes them out. Tezdzhan Naimova. Asha Philip in 4th place,

:25:54.:25:58.

she is safely through to the final, but the pace was set by Myriam

:25:58.:26:07.

Soumare of France. Her time is 7.05, quicker and quicker still they go.

:26:07.:26:17.

We are getting an official time of 0.07. Mariya Ryemyen of round 7.0

:26:17.:26:21.

in the first semi-final. Myriam Soumare was impressive from first

:26:21.:26:27.

to last. Asha Philip making it through. These four separating

:26:27.:26:37.
:26:37.:26:52.

STEVE CRAM: She had to concentrate to produce the form she has been

:26:52.:26:56.

all year. Everyone is raising their game for the final.

:26:56.:27:01.

Every British woman has made the final in these jab bishops so far,

:27:01.:27:10.

well done to Asha Philip, to keep that trend going. -- these

:27:10.:27:17.

championships. She has conducted herself really well, we will see

:27:17.:27:27.
:27:27.:27:47.

her later on it 5:15pm. -- at One quick word. Every British woman

:27:48.:27:51.

who has been here this week, has gone into the final, you have kept

:27:51.:27:57.

that going. Hopefully. How did that faulty start affect you, was it a

:27:57.:28:03.

nervous moment? They held us back quite long, so it was frustrating.

:28:03.:28:10.

You have to keep your head focused. I do not care. She got a warning. I

:28:10.:28:15.

just wanted to run. We wish you well for the final, see you later.

:28:15.:28:25.

Very calm and collected, Colin? There is a lot of pressure at the

:28:25.:28:30.

start of the 60m, especially if you know you are one of four or five

:28:30.:28:34.

who can qualify for the final. Even though she has been out of the

:28:34.:28:38.

sport with an injury, she has come back with a very mature attitude.

:28:38.:28:45.

She prepared herself very well. is not that experienced. She has

:28:45.:28:49.

had a long time out. It takes a while to feel that composure again

:28:49.:28:53.

and understand you need to keep your head in these pressurised

:28:53.:28:59.

situations. She benefited quickly from the fast starting of Myriam

:28:59.:29:05.

Soumare of France. But start was actually very smooth.

:29:05.:29:12.

transition phase was elegant. A great job. She has her family out

:29:12.:29:17.

here. She has come here to do a serious job and get to that final,

:29:17.:29:23.

excellent. In terms of build up to this championships, she ran quickly

:29:23.:29:28.

at the UK trials in Sheffield. Her personal best. In Birmingham, a

:29:28.:29:38.
:29:38.:29:44.

Yes. She knows she's won titles in her youth before in similar

:29:44.:29:48.

conditions. She is going through the rounds in a nice way and

:29:48.:29:53.

getting quicker each time. It is getting that consistency under your

:29:53.:29:56.

belt that gives you belief, that you can raise your game at the

:29:56.:30:01.

right moment in time. What do you make in terms of the final itself?

:30:01.:30:07.

You have Soumare looking for a French double. She was very strong.

:30:07.:30:10.

French double. She was very strong. It is anyone's game. She came out

:30:10.:30:19.

of her blocks blistering. If Asha holds her form, she needs to get in

:30:19.:30:24.

there, that is her lane draw, anything could go. She's got to

:30:24.:30:28.

keep her head and pretend and ignore the other girls. That same

:30:28.:30:35.

bullet-like start, fast out, she is in with a chance. Eight women in

:30:35.:30:41.

the final, all eight of them think they can win a medal, Colin?

:30:41.:30:47.

wouldn't you? 7.15 - I can't use the word "slowest" going into the

:30:47.:30:52.

final. It is anybody's race. It is about who holds their form. It will

:30:52.:30:57.

be very tight at the back end. When you see that line, you lean!

:30:57.:31:07.
:31:07.:31:08.

are used to doing this kind of turnaround, a a semifinal and a

:31:08.:31:14.

final. What does she do now? the hard work is done. Now it is

:31:14.:31:20.

time to relax, do a bit of jogging, but there is nothing she needs to

:31:20.:31:27.

do. It is all there. Asha coming up later on. We saw in between those

:31:27.:31:32.

two semifinals the men's 60m from yesterday and Colin that was a

:31:32.:31:38.

massive breakthrough for James? He had a very good semifinal. We

:31:38.:31:43.

were hoping he hadn't run his best race in the semifinal. No, he came

:31:43.:31:47.

back, he believed in himself. He knew Vicaut was going to be the man

:31:47.:31:53.

to worry about. From pure form, in the past. He kept his head and kept

:31:53.:31:58.

his cool. He ran to the line. Again, 6.48 is a sensational time for him.

:31:58.:32:04.

As I said before, what is great, he will be looking at the fact that I

:32:04.:32:12.

can go under 10 seconds in the summer. That may seem in the -- may

:32:12.:32:17.

see him in the final of the World Championships. He was more worried

:32:17.:32:24.

about running 6.48 than getting this medal? Yes. He can run under

:32:24.:32:28.

10 seconds. That is where he needs to head to. 10 seconds doesn't

:32:28.:32:32.

bring you anything. It doesn't bring you finals in this day and

:32:32.:32:37.

age. No. We will head back out to the track now. The men's pole vault

:32:37.:32:47.
:32:47.:32:58.

final is under way. Paul Dickenson comfortably through to the final

:32:58.:33:08.
:33:08.:33:09.

setting a season's best in the process. He has Renaud Lavillenie

:33:09.:33:15.

up against him in this. A chance for Steve Lewis to get his campaign

:33:15.:33:24.

up to a successful start here. 5.51m the target. He looks so

:33:24.:33:33.

smooth. That is a great start. Well done, Steve Lewis. 5.51m, over 18

:33:33.:33:39.

feet. These guys are going much higher than London buses in terms

:33:39.:33:44.

of the height they are achieving. A solid start for the British number

:33:44.:33:53.

one. Here is the best pole vaulter in the world currently. The

:33:53.:34:02.

defending European Indoor Champion, Olympic Champion, twice the World

:34:02.:34:12.
:34:12.:34:13.

Champion. Oh, he flies over. 5.61m for Renaud Lavillenie. That is the

:34:13.:34:19.

ability of the man. A great start for the Frenchman. Surely the

:34:19.:34:28.

favourite to take gold. Well, Steve Lewis, just looking at the computer

:34:28.:34:33.

in front of me here, he has passed on 5.61m. The next time we see him

:34:33.:34:41.

he will have to set a season's best of 5.71m to stay in the competition.

:34:41.:34:45.

Konstadinos Filippidis of Greece, the Greek record holder. He looked

:34:45.:34:49.

very good in qualifying, too. Some very, very good vaulters out there.

:34:49.:34:54.

The balance of power in pole vaulting at the moment rests in

:34:54.:34:59.

Europe. It used to be the Americans, there was a great Australian as

:34:59.:35:08.

well, Steve Hooker. The Europeans have come on in leaps and bounds in

:35:08.:35:12.

recent years! Steve Lewis, for the time being, is holding his best

:35:12.:35:20.

with them. Robert Sobera of Poland, 5.61m now. He cleared a personal

:35:20.:35:30.

best to qualify for this final. Sobera - oh - going well! That is

:35:30.:35:36.

another lifetime best performance for the young man. 22 years old.

:35:36.:35:41.

Certainly a name to watch out for. He is getting more and more

:35:41.:35:51.
:35:51.:35:58.

Bjoern Otto. A silver medallist in the Olympic Games behind Lavillenie.

:35:58.:36:06.

They are locking horns once again. We also have the bronze medal is,

:36:06.:36:13.

Raphael Holzdeppe. Otto goes well clear. -- bronze medallist, Raphael

:36:13.:36:23.
:36:23.:36:26.

Holzdeppe. Otto goes well clear. Bjoern Otto - 5.61m, looking very

:36:26.:36:36.
:36:36.:36:48.

confident indeed. This is 5.61m so you can see the

:36:48.:36:58.
:36:58.:37:02.

standard of competition that faces Steve Lewis. A very tidy vaulter,

:37:02.:37:06.

Jan Kudlicka. JONATHAN EDWARDS: With are hopeful

:37:06.:37:10.

of a very good long jump competition as well. Chris

:37:10.:37:15.

Tomlinson going in that. The crowd are going to get behind it. You

:37:15.:37:19.

forget that Chris Tomlinson came sixth in the Olympics, the one that

:37:19.:37:25.

grug Rutherford won. These were his -- Greg Rutherford won. These were

:37:25.:37:30.

his thoughts ahead of these his thoughts ahead of these

:37:30.:37:35.

Championships. Because it was such a poor competition, and I missed a

:37:35.:37:43.

medal by 5cm, it was very tough to take. I had some tough mental

:37:43.:37:50.

months after that. I couldn't believe 8.17m was second and 8.12m

:37:50.:37:56.

was third and 8.31m won it. It was tough to deal with. That was part

:37:56.:38:00.

of the decision to leave London behind. I have moved coaches and I

:38:00.:38:05.

have been bedding in with my coach. I have another four or five seasons

:38:05.:38:10.

left leading into 2017, the World Championships. I hope to fulfil my

:38:10.:38:14.

potential. This weekend will be an interesting one. Will it, won't it

:38:14.:38:18.

happen this weekend? I'm confident it will start paying dividends in a

:38:18.:38:22.

few months' time. I can only see where I'm at in competition,

:38:22.:38:28.

personally. In training, you never are 100%. You always leave a bit in

:38:28.:38:31.

the reserve tank. In competition, particularly at Championships, you

:38:31.:38:35.

are going for it. What is great about the indoor season is you are

:38:35.:38:38.

only a few months away from the outdoor season. So you sit back

:38:38.:38:42.

after the Championships, you review where you are at, you review the

:38:42.:38:45.

good points, the bad points, and then you can start to build-up to

:38:46.:38:49.

the outdoors. In the past, I have always been injured during the

:38:49.:38:53.

indoor season. It is remarkable that I'm here. Normally, this time

:38:53.:39:00.

in the year, I am barely able to jog, let alone jump!

:39:00.:39:04.

JONATHAN EDWARDS: No doubt Chris has potential. He has had that

:39:04.:39:11.

has potential. He has had that script for a little while now?

:39:11.:39:18.

DENISE LEWIS: Yes, he has. He's inconsistent. Yes, he has been

:39:18.:39:21.

injury-ravaged, which is very unfortunate. You never know with

:39:21.:39:28.

him. I think that is with Chris. He can jump well and he can jump badly.

:39:28.:39:33.

He has also changed his technique a little bit?

:39:33.:39:38.

COLIN JACKSON: Yes, Holly said the same thing. You have to go back to

:39:38.:39:42.

come forward. When you work at the speeds and dealing with certain

:39:42.:39:46.

things while you are trying to change your technique, that can

:39:46.:39:54.

allow you to run into problems. Chris has been carrying his injury.

:39:54.:39:58.

All that piles more and more tension on you. He's coming here

:39:58.:40:02.

now with a real opportunity and he will look around, he will know what

:40:02.:40:05.

type of competition is around him. He knows every single person here.

:40:06.:40:11.

He has competed against them on a regular basis. He should fill

:40:11.:40:14.

himself with a little bit of confidence and think, "You know

:40:14.:40:21.

what, what Greg Rutherford did in London, I can do that to these guys

:40:21.:40:27.

here today." Let's look back to a breathless

:40:27.:40:35.

morning at the Scandinavium Arena. We can have a look at the start

:40:35.:40:42.

list. STEVE CRAM: Eilidh Child, the

:40:42.:40:52.
:40:52.:41:08.

Scottish indoor record holder this and Shana Cox was advanced to the

:41:08.:41:18.
:41:18.:41:39.

has started quick. She has taken a yard out of Eilidh Child. A fast

:41:39.:41:44.

first 100m. Shana Cox has started quickly in lane one. Perri Shakes-

:41:44.:41:48.

Drayton is in the perfect position to take the lead here with Eilidh

:41:48.:41:53.

Child slotting in behind her. This is perfect for Great Britain. Shana

:41:53.:41:58.

Cox moves into third. Perri Shakes- Drayton controlling this from the

:41:58.:42:01.

front. Eilidh Child, right where she wants to be. This is quick from

:42:01.:42:05.

Perri Shakes-Drayton. She looks in superb form. The others are

:42:05.:42:08.

trailing behind. It is Great Britain one-two at the moment. The

:42:08.:42:13.

others are a long way behind. Perri Shakes-Drayton going for gold,

:42:13.:42:17.

pulling away from her team-mate. It will be a British one-two. Perri

:42:17.:42:24.

Shakes-Drayton wins it in a superb time! Brilliant, brilliant running.

:42:24.:42:30.

She's got better through these Championships. The talent that we

:42:30.:42:34.

have always known was there, that she's always known was there, has

:42:34.:42:39.

finally come to the fore. Eilidh Child should be delighted with her

:42:39.:42:44.

performance to take the silver medal. She couldn't catch her team-

:42:44.:42:47.

mate. What a brilliant performance from the British athletes. There is

:42:47.:42:52.

her coach. The two of them have worked really hard to get Perri

:42:52.:42:57.

into this sort of shape. She was criticised a bit about her

:42:57.:43:00.

performance in London last year. If she can carry this sort of form

:43:00.:43:05.

into the summer, who knows what she is going to be capable of. It was

:43:05.:43:10.

tight for bronze. There was no doubt, was there, about the winner?

:43:10.:43:20.
:43:20.:43:20.

Eilidh Child was clear in second as well. That moves - she was already

:43:20.:43:24.

third quickest ever British athlete indoors after her performance

:43:24.:43:29.

yesterday. She has improved her own best time. That is a nice

:43:29.:43:33.

waistcoat! What a good start to this final day of the yaurpian

:43:33.:43:38.

Indoor -- European Indoor Championships for Great Britain. A

:43:38.:43:46.

world-leading time of 50.85. A new national record for Hjelmer of

:43:46.:43:56.
:43:56.:44:06.

I knew it would be a hard race, I had to really work on that break, I

:44:06.:44:12.

am delighted. How were your nerves at the start? Was pretty nervous, I

:44:12.:44:18.

knew everybody would be chasing me because I was in lane six. I went

:44:18.:44:23.

out hard. Kept working on that second black. A great sense of

:44:23.:44:29.

satisfaction, coming here as a medal contender, and delivering.

:44:29.:44:38.

You want to get a medal, to get a silver, I am so happy with this one.

:44:38.:44:43.

And a personal best. I can't ask any more than that.

:44:44.:44:51.

I am over the moon, I am happy. A lot of people were already putting

:44:51.:44:56.

gold on me. Obviously, you want to come back and win. I hope this

:44:56.:45:00.

benefits when I come to the outdoors. It will, probably, for

:45:00.:45:04.

the pair you. You dominated throughout each round, in complete

:45:05.:45:12.

control again. Setting the world alight. I can't be too complacent.

:45:12.:45:18.

Stay out of trouble. State at the front, and maintain it. I have done

:45:18.:45:28.
:45:28.:45:29.

that every round -- Stay at the front. How is it coming here in the

:45:29.:45:38.

morning to run a final? I am used to the early starts. I'm glad it is

:45:38.:45:48.
:45:48.:45:53.

out of the way. Hopefully, I will Eilidh Child. She is a hurdle her.

:45:53.:45:58.

I am sure she is very excited about her prospects for the summer. As

:45:58.:46:05.

well this young lady beat as well. European indoor champion. Perri

:46:05.:46:12.

Shakes-Drayton, in a world leading time, something which bodes well

:46:12.:46:22.
:46:22.:46:26.

Shakes-Drayton. That will take her through the next few months, into

:46:26.:46:36.
:46:36.:46:51.

but not so good there. A little bit of he Cup for Steve Lewis. Looked

:46:51.:47:00.

superb in his opening vault. Those two failures in what would be a new

:47:00.:47:05.

season's best, a height which he has got to get if he wants to stay

:47:05.:47:12.

in there, fighting. And to go for a medal. There are some superb

:47:12.:47:18.

athletes. Many of the athletes have passed this height. But Steve Lewis

:47:18.:47:28.
:47:28.:47:35.

only has he got to get five. 71, he will have to go higher now because

:47:35.:47:44.

of these two failures. Robert Sobera has already had two failures

:47:44.:47:49.

as well. Steve Lewis has got to find something from somewhere if he

:47:49.:47:59.
:47:59.:48:07.

chris thomson is out there. There is the opposition. Michel Torneus

:48:07.:48:11.

will be the first have to jump, the Swedish athlete, finishing 4th in

:48:11.:48:21.
:48:21.:48:33.

Which chris thomson has actually turned up today, it confident one?

:48:33.:48:43.
:48:43.:48:54.

competition got away to an absolutely incredible start. Rather

:48:54.:48:58.

like the women's triple jump this morning when Olha Saladuha made the

:48:58.:49:04.

longest jump in the world this year. Michel Torneus, a new Swedish

:49:04.:49:14.
:49:14.:49:27.

indoor record, at 8.27. That is is it for Steve this, he has to

:49:27.:49:34.

clear this, otherwise he is eliminated. He drives end. Great,

:49:34.:49:44.
:49:44.:49:44.

well done, Steve Lewis. One of his best ever. His lifetime best in

:49:44.:49:51.

this event is 5.77, he is not far short of that. A real, a gutsy

:49:51.:50:01.
:50:01.:50:08.

performance. So, his campaign in Michel Torneus, the Swedish athlete

:50:08.:50:13.

who started this competition. He sped down the runway, a brilliant

:50:13.:50:18.

take-off. Absolutely sailed through the air for what seemed like an age,

:50:18.:50:23.

to the roar of the crowd. They were cheering him before he had even

:50:23.:50:29.

taken off. He knew it was good. He must have known it was good. He

:50:29.:50:34.

nailed it on take-off. A lot of people have been saying this is

:50:34.:50:42.

Sweden's best bet for a gold medal. There it was, the longest jump in

:50:42.:50:47.

the world this year. And a new Swedish indoor record, with the

:50:47.:50:54.

very first jump of the competition. Aleksandr Menkov, qualified with

:50:54.:51:01.

8.22, looked absolutely superb, a cracker to start. That is certainly

:51:01.:51:08.

up with Michel Torneus. He is small in stature, but, boy, does he

:51:08.:51:16.

produce good jumps when it really matters. Chris Tomlinson will be

:51:16.:51:21.

looking forward to his second round jump, just congratulated him. World

:51:21.:51:26.

indoor gold -- bronze-medallist. He has gone into the lead by one

:51:26.:51:36.
:51:36.:51:37.

centimetre. It is game on in this A word on Perri Shakes-Drayton, a

:51:37.:51:42.

wonderful performance. She is growing in stature every time. This

:51:42.:51:47.

bodes well for the outdoor season. Coming here in shape, running so

:51:47.:51:53.

quickly, it is brilliant. We saw the men's 400m, but let us look at

:51:53.:52:03.
:52:03.:52:28.

from this final bend. He has to settle it down. In command. Running

:52:28.:52:38.

hard. He has left the others. He is going away by a metre and a half.

:52:38.:52:43.

His competitors cannot close. Bennett, on his way to a gold medal,

:52:43.:52:49.

of running bad this and lead, into the straight, he has won it all the

:52:49.:52:56.

way. That, if confirmed, it is a new world indoor record. No one has

:52:56.:53:03.

ever run faster than that. And he did it to perfection.

:53:03.:53:10.

Away first time, it is important, this first bend. They have reached

:53:10.:53:18.

the breaking point right. Bennett has gone up very quickly. Bennett

:53:18.:53:28.
:53:28.:53:31.

is in the control position as they break. Holding his own. Bennett at

:53:31.:53:36.

the front. A powerful Dutchman goes on the outside. Can he get back

:53:36.:53:42.

inside, Bennett says nabbing macro, Bennett still controlling all the

:53:42.:53:49.

way. The champion of two years ago. He is hanging on. Bennett gets the

:53:49.:53:55.

gold. I said there is only one way to win it, from the front, and

:53:55.:54:05.
:54:05.:54:11.

athletes. We want to send in our very best wishes, as he is not very

:54:11.:54:16.

well at the moment. The men's 400m final was this

:54:16.:54:26.
:54:26.:54:59.

get an indication, Pavel Maslak -- Pavel Maslak has started very

:54:59.:55:09.
:55:09.:55:16.

quickly. Really has gone for this, the lead. Trenikhin, almost running

:55:17.:55:22.

wide. Pavel Maslak in control. These three are well clear of the

:55:22.:55:31.

rest. Trenikhin will try to attack but Pavel Maslak has got this.

:55:31.:55:36.

Levying -- of Nigel Levine clipped Pavel Trenikhin. Gold medal to the

:55:36.:55:41.

Czech Republic. Silver medal to Nigel Levine. Trenikhin ran a

:55:41.:55:46.

terrible race. This man just gets better and better. He looked

:55:46.:55:52.

Supreme coming into this. Nigel Levine did well. I said he had a

:55:52.:56:00.

difficult decision to make, when he realised chickened -- Pavel

:56:00.:56:04.

Trenikhin tried to come across him, he took the advantage, came through.

:56:04.:56:10.

On the last bend, I am sure the Russians will have a little look

:56:10.:56:14.

but Trenikhin was going backwards at that point. The sky is good, he

:56:14.:56:24.
:56:24.:56:28.

will have a good summer as well. -- the Russians may have something to

:56:28.:56:33.

say. It will be interesting. They lost their number-one runner in the

:56:33.:56:41.

women's event. Was he impeded? No doubt about the winner. Nigel

:56:41.:56:51.
:56:51.:56:53.

Levine running a very good race result for Great Britain, Nigel

:56:53.:56:58.

Levine with a season's best. He wins the silver medal behind the

:56:58.:57:03.

dominant Pavel Maslak. A really good performance from him.

:57:03.:57:13.
:57:13.:57:15.

Trenikhin have hung on for a bronze They are all humans, they are all

:57:15.:57:21.

beatable. I listened to my coach, did my best, and finished second. A

:57:21.:57:25.

season's best, from lane three, what can I say. You have the relay

:57:25.:57:33.

to come, they could be another medal. What? There is a little bit

:57:33.:57:37.

of aggravation would the Russian, he actually stepped off the track,

:57:37.:57:41.

what was he tried to suggest to you? Was there any contact between

:57:41.:57:50.

him and you? He was running wide. 400m. Here it is what he is

:57:50.:58:00.

probably talking about. I am on the inside lane. You see. Trying to

:58:00.:58:04.

chop in front of me so I had to slow down, that is not my fault.

:58:04.:58:10.

You saw him cut right in front of me. So he has gone off the track

:58:10.:58:20.

and on to it. As you can see. The Russians did have something to

:58:20.:58:24.

say about that, they appealed, and the Russian got disqualified, how

:58:24.:58:34.
:58:34.:58:36.

about that! We can look at the impeded by Nigel Levine, he lost

:58:36.:58:40.

his footing when Nigel Levine clipped his Hill. What the appeal

:58:40.:58:50.
:58:50.:59:00.

was about was the fact he came he did cause the first issue. I

:59:00.:59:04.

think that's quite right. JONATHAN EDWARDS: He was

:59:04.:59:11.

disqualified for stepping out of the track, not for impeding Nigel

:59:11.:59:18.

Levine. COLIN JACKSON: The track is

:59:18.:59:22.

measured from the middle of the lane. What did he expect?

:59:22.:59:32.

Indeed. Let's get back out to the pole vault with Paul Dickenson.

:59:32.:59:40.

Thanks, Jonathan. Renaud Lavillenie now. My goodness, he was almost

:59:40.:59:46.

through the rafters there! Tremendous height. He steams in

:59:46.:59:53.

before he plants the pole. He had time to punch the air in

:59:53.:59:57.

celebration on the way down. That was massive. Still the man to beat

:59:57.:00:07.
:00:07.:00:11.

in the pole vault. Perfect record so far. Christian Reif has a chance,

:00:11.:00:17.

but what a start we have seen. A couple of 8m jumps in the first

:00:17.:00:24.

round. That is real world-class stuff. Christian Reif is an 8m

:00:24.:00:34.

jumper at best. That looks close to the 8m mark. Chris Tomlinson was

:00:34.:00:41.

7.93m in the first round. Good height in the end. Not as smooth as

:00:41.:00:49.

Alexander Menkov. 8.01m is good enough for third place. The women's

:00:49.:00:58.

high jump is starting very soon. Ruth Beitia won the European

:00:58.:01:08.
:01:08.:01:10.

Championships outdoors last year. Watch out for Alessia Trost. Still

:01:10.:01:20.
:01:20.:01:23.

only 19. The local favourite Emma Green Tregaro as well. Tia

:01:23.:01:27.

Hellebaut of Belgium, the Olympic Champion in 2008. She has had a

:01:27.:01:30.

couple of babies since then. She is in a bit of trouble here. That is

:01:30.:01:35.

not the best we have seen from this great athlete. She was a superb

:01:35.:01:40.

multi-eventer. Then she turned her attentions to high jump. She is a

:01:40.:01:44.

good athlete. There is no doubt about that. It has not gone all her

:01:44.:01:52.

own way here today. So she is out of the competition, 1.92m was the

:01:52.:01:56.

target. She couldn't achieve it. She looked very good in qualifying

:01:56.:02:04.

for this final yesterday. Wasn't to be today. One of the greats, in my

:02:04.:02:09.

opinion. I just wonder what she might have achieved had she stuck

:02:09.:02:17.

with heptathlon. She was superb. She is out of this final. Ruth

:02:17.:02:24.

Beitia now. A little stutter before she made the take-off there. 33

:02:24.:02:31.

years old, there is no slowing this athlete down. Has a slightly-

:02:31.:02:35.

exaggerated technique in terms of the curved run she has into the bar.

:02:35.:02:40.

It is very, very effective, indeed. Consistently one of the best in the

:02:40.:02:50.
:02:50.:02:57.

world for many, many years. 1.96m on her first attempt. That's 1.96m

:02:57.:03:07.
:03:07.:03:13.

with a rattle! A tremendous performance. Fast approach. Only

:03:13.:03:21.

the last few strides she makes the turn to the take-off. Sweden could

:03:21.:03:28.

get another medal here. 1.96m for Jungmark. Chris Tomlinson has

:03:28.:03:33.

already seen three jumpers go 8m- plus. He knows he is in a world-

:03:33.:03:41.

class competition here. So he needs to do something about it. The take-

:03:41.:03:51.

off looked good. I think he will get the white flag. He does. Looks

:03:51.:03:54.

anxiously across. Even the athletes themselves can only get a rough

:03:54.:04:04.
:04:04.:04:06.

indication as to how far it is. Looks close to 8m. 8.01m is third

:04:06.:04:13.

place at the moment by Christian Reif of Germany. Chris is sixth at

:04:13.:04:18.

the moment. 7.95m, a slight improvement.

:04:18.:04:27.

JONATHAN EDWARDS: Earlier on this morning, we saw Yamile Aldama in

:04:27.:04:31.

the triple jump. Not the best condition coming into this

:04:32.:04:41.

competition. She won the World Indoors last year. She made the

:04:41.:04:45.

final. It was this woman who dominated it right from the very

:04:45.:04:55.
:04:55.:04:56.

start. The first jump 14.88m. That was a massive 58 centimetres clear

:04:56.:05:01.

of her nearest rival. We have looked back to three of the four

:05:01.:05:04.

medals that were won this morning. Time to look at the fourth. It was

:05:04.:05:10.

in the men's 800m and Seb Coe backed Mukhtar Mohammed when he was

:05:10.:05:20.
:05:20.:05:24.

in the studio yesterday. He delivered. Let's relive it all.

:05:24.:05:28.

ANDREW COTTER: These are the competitors in the final of the

:05:28.:05:37.

800m. We heard Seb Coe saying yesterday he believes he will win a

:05:37.:05:41.

medal. He has the talent. Does he have the tactical nous to get it

:05:41.:05:51.
:05:51.:05:56.

right? The final of the men's 800m. Four laps of the track to settle it.

:05:56.:06:06.
:06:06.:06:06.

The Spaniard is taking it out quickly. Lopez wanted to get out in

:06:06.:06:12.

front with Marco. At the moment, it is Mukhtar Mohammed settling down

:06:12.:06:19.

in fourth place. PAULA RADCLIFFE: The defending

:06:19.:06:27.

champion is at the back of the field, Adam Kszczot.

:06:27.:06:33.

He is lurking at the back at the moment, Kszczot, with Mukhtar

:06:33.:06:42.

Mohammed placed well. Kevin Lopez taking it out. Mukhtar Mohammed

:06:42.:06:47.

decides to move to the outside. Kszczot just beginning to hit top

:06:47.:06:53.

speed now and he makes his move. Dangerously through on the inside

:06:53.:06:57.

there, Mukhtar Mohammed. Nearly took a tumble. He needs to get

:06:57.:07:05.

himself free so he can follow Kszczot through. Just looks a bit

:07:05.:07:11.

unsettled there. It takes energy out of you. He is six metres behind.

:07:11.:07:15.

Kszczot hits the front with the bell. The two Spaniards behind him.

:07:15.:07:19.

Mukhtar Mohammed getting blocked. A lot of work to do for Mukhtar

:07:19.:07:25.

Mohammed. This may be a race beyond him. Kszczot out in front looking

:07:25.:07:31.

to defend his title. Mukhtar Mohammed making his move. It is

:07:31.:07:35.

Kszczot with the Spaniard Kevin Lopez behind him and Mukhtar

:07:35.:07:43.

Mohammed coming through to take the bronze and just about gets there! I

:07:43.:07:48.

think that Mukhtar Mohammed might have got there. The winner, Adam

:07:48.:07:52.

Kszczot. Is there a bronze for Kszczot. Is there a bronze for

:07:52.:07:55.

Mukhtar Mohammed? You said you wanted it and you have

:07:55.:08:03.

got it? Yes. Yesterday, I had a sore calf. Today, good or bad, I

:08:03.:08:09.

just trust Allah, the God. Whatever plan he made for me. And a medal

:08:09.:08:18.

came your way, but not without some bumping and barging? Yes, yes.

:08:18.:08:27.

Where is he from? The guy who tried to...? The Belarussian. I had a

:08:27.:08:32.

tough time with him. That is putting it mildly! Yeah, yeah. Also,

:08:32.:08:40.

this morning, when I met him, I told him you were the favourite and

:08:40.:08:47.

he said it would be a good race. Mukhtar Mohammed is here with his

:08:47.:08:53.

bronze medal. Feel good? Yes, great. You won it the tough way. There was

:08:53.:08:58.

a number of times where it looked like you had lost your momentum and

:08:58.:09:05.

a medal was out of your grasp? My race wasn't the way I planned it.

:09:05.:09:13.

I felt a sore calf from yesterday and this morning was a bit, how you

:09:13.:09:17.

say, a bit... You and the Belarussian have a bit of history.

:09:17.:09:22.

He doesn't seem to like you very much? Even in the warm-up, we all

:09:22.:09:26.

said good luck and he wasn't talking. If he had beaten you to

:09:26.:09:31.

the bronze medal, he would have been disqualified? For sure. Talk

:09:31.:09:36.

us through these three rounds that you have run. To come here and do

:09:36.:09:42.

800m, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, it shows what condition you are in?

:09:42.:09:50.

had a good training. I would like to thank my team for giving me a

:09:50.:09:55.

good opportunity to train in Kenya. I was really strong. I really

:09:55.:10:00.

believed I would get a medal. I really enjoyed this competition,

:10:00.:10:07.

every minute of it. The heat was making me go stronger. We had the

:10:07.:10:13.

leader, Jenny Meadows, she lift all the team up. How important do you

:10:13.:10:18.

feel this is for you? It is a big breakthrough, isn't it? Yeah, it is

:10:18.:10:24.

a big moment. This is the first senior medal. It is funny. Two

:10:24.:10:34.
:10:34.:10:34.

years ago, 2011, the same one, two, three. Adam won it, Kevin was

:10:34.:10:40.

second and I was third. Steve Lewis not getting it right in the pole

:10:40.:10:44.

vault. Some cheering going on behind us, this is the women's high

:10:44.:10:50.

behind us, this is the women's high jump. This is 1.99m. Not quite to

:10:50.:10:57.

be. How tough is it, having to put together those three races? It is

:10:57.:11:01.

very tough. Even indoors. Indoors is a different game. I think that

:11:01.:11:11.
:11:11.:11:19.

is the reason I have a tight calf. The pole vault continuing, Steve

:11:19.:11:26.

Lewis there failing at that height. Colin, I think you were incredibly

:11:26.:11:30.

impressed by the way he conducted himself over the course of these

:11:30.:11:32.

three days? It has been a tremendous Championships. You said

:11:32.:11:37.

you came here and you knew what you were capable of delivering, which

:11:37.:11:42.

was that medal. I spoke to you many years ago now, in 2008, I remember

:11:42.:11:47.

you saying then that you believed you can be the best 800m runner in

:11:47.:11:52.

the world. This is a stepping stone for you now. You have experienced

:11:52.:11:56.

this, you know, in your heart of hearts now, do you still think to

:11:56.:12:02.

yourself, "This is fantastic" or do you think, "This is a stepping

:12:02.:12:08.

stone, there's much more from me to come"? I remember the first time we

:12:08.:12:15.

met, Hull? Yes. 2007, when I was - the football, I used to love

:12:15.:12:25.

football a lot. I got a scholarship for Sheffield Wednesday. My brother

:12:25.:12:30.

told me to try athletics. I ran good in the first year. Yeah, after

:12:30.:12:37.

today, after - well, you can't get better than a medal. It was a

:12:37.:12:41.

brilliant performance. We are all, I think, we all thought you did

:12:41.:12:44.

brilliantly, particularly that final, when you were down-and-out,

:12:44.:12:49.

and you had a strong kick in the end. We are ready for some big

:12:49.:12:54.

stuff in the outdoors for you. Thank you. Jenny Meadows ran this

:12:54.:13:04.
:13:04.:13:27.

Everard in the final for Ireland. The women's 800m final, four laps

:13:27.:13:33.

of the track. Jenny Meadows, if she wants to go to the front, she is in

:13:33.:13:43.
:13:43.:13:43.

the best lane to do that. Look at Kotulskaya. She was making sure she

:13:43.:13:48.

was going to be as close to Jenny Meadows as possible. This is what

:13:48.:13:52.

we expected. Jenny Meadows taking it out and is going to try and win

:13:52.:14:02.
:14:02.:14:21.

successfully defended this title. She is giving it her best shot.

:14:21.:14:30.

Really important that these 200 splits are quick. The first,

:14:30.:14:35.

quickest, then don't let it drop. The Russian is looking very relaxed,

:14:35.:14:43.

the others are bunched up nicely behind. Ciara Everard in 4th place.

:14:43.:14:49.

Jenny Meadows is not going flat out yet. With every lap, it slows down

:14:50.:14:54.

imperceptibly. He she definitely has to push on.

:14:54.:15:00.

This is where, yesterday, she had that little extra. Then she tired

:15:00.:15:06.

in the closing stages. Hopefully she has more to cover this move now.

:15:06.:15:15.

Suffering there, she has defied for a medal here. Nataliya Lupu has

:15:15.:15:21.

stolen a march, against the favourite, Elena Kotulskaya. Maybe

:15:21.:15:31.
:15:31.:15:34.

too much, too late for Jenny Meadows have to do. -- Jenny

:15:34.:15:40.

Meadows to do. Given the mouth of training she has missed, this is

:15:40.:15:50.
:15:50.:15:51.

the reason why she couldn't produce It was a massive tactical error,

:15:51.:15:55.

but 4th in Europe, three races back-to-back. I will take that

:15:55.:16:01.

forward to summer. It has dented my ego a little, I don't like being

:16:01.:16:07.

beaten. I am incredibly proud of myself to put myself on the line,

:16:07.:16:16.

with little preparation. It is all about the summer.

:16:16.:16:25.

Cat and Meadows, I should call you. You perhaps weren't quite so happy

:16:25.:16:35.
:16:35.:16:35.

-- Captain Meadows. A I am quite good friends with Adam Kszczot for

:16:35.:16:40.

one the 1,800 -- 800 metres. He saw my training in South Africa, when I

:16:40.:16:44.

had bitchery started running when he was well into his indoor

:16:44.:16:54.

preparations. -- had literally. I do not like to see myself not

:16:54.:16:58.

prepared, but this weekend was all about mental strength, to come here,

:16:58.:17:08.
:17:08.:17:09.

to remember how to prepare for him mental -- to prepare mentally

:17:09.:17:14.

forehead championships. You put yourself through torture, the

:17:14.:17:19.

countdown to the competition, doing three days back to back. No doubt,

:17:19.:17:24.

that will be fantastic for my summer season. How important was it

:17:24.:17:30.

to get back, after the horrors of last year. There have been dark

:17:30.:17:35.

moments in my injury when a thought I might not even be able to run as

:17:35.:17:42.

a recreational athlete, never mind with my dog or my friend. To put a

:17:42.:17:47.

pair of spikes on, being a competitive environment at the

:17:47.:17:52.

European Athletics Indoor Championships, it is brilliant.

:17:52.:18:02.
:18:02.:18:05.

ran in Birmingham, and here are. -- you ran. I have done four races in

:18:05.:18:09.

a few weeks. I haven't been able to do that, put myself in that

:18:09.:18:14.

position. I was quite shocked yesterday how good physical shape I

:18:14.:18:20.

was going to run a World Championship standard. I am sure in

:18:20.:18:25.

a few months I can improve. improved a lot from the first round

:18:25.:18:32.

through to the second. He looked as if you struggled in the first.

:18:32.:18:38.

dense your ego. I haven't done so much -- done much work. I can't

:18:39.:18:44.

even do my full repertoire of drools in warm ups. So I am really

:18:44.:18:53.

not prepared. It was a shock really in the heats, not to have my normal

:18:53.:18:59.

tools. I can normally kick, that is my strength. I had to reassess in

:18:59.:19:04.

the semi-final. I didn't quite get it right in the final, probably

:19:04.:19:14.
:19:14.:19:20.

should have gone earlier. 4th place, jump. If she does not get this, it

:19:20.:19:26.

means gold goes to Spain. The whole stadium watching, my goodness, that

:19:26.:19:34.

was so close. Swedish heart have been broken by a brilliant Spaniard.

:19:34.:19:42.

It is this will work and a bronze which goes to the host nation. --

:19:42.:19:52.
:19:52.:19:53.

it is a silver. 1.99 was the target, a prodigious height. Emma Green

:19:53.:20:00.

Tregaro gets a medal, so does Ebba Jungmark.

:20:00.:20:07.

This was a little while ago. Ruth Beitia, the Spanish record holder,

:20:07.:20:13.

her best jump this year, coming at exactly the right time. It was left

:20:13.:20:21.

to Emma Green Tregaro and Ebba Jungmark. Spanish gold it is here

:20:21.:20:25.

today in the women's high jump. Ebba Jungmark gets the silver medal.

:20:25.:20:31.

Emma Green Tregaro gets the bronze medal.

:20:31.:20:37.

Chris Tomlinson has got a lot of work to do, he is down in 7th place.

:20:37.:20:47.
:20:47.:20:51.

Gradually being shunted down from metres, that is the target for

:20:51.:21:00.

Chris. We saw two of massive jumps from Aleksandr Menkov and Michel

:21:00.:21:09.

Torneus, the Swedish athlete. It is very consistent, but he needs

:21:09.:21:19.
:21:19.:21:22.

out also his flailing right arm. Denise, you had a question for

:21:22.:21:32.

It was a calculated risk to come or not to come. It could have dented

:21:32.:21:36.

your confidence even further. Exactly, by confidence was dented

:21:36.:21:40.

on Friday after that heat, finishing in third. My goodness, a

:21:40.:21:47.

thought I might not make the final. I have taken a calculated risk. It

:21:47.:21:52.

is important I came back of on Saturday, a confidence boost. I am

:21:52.:21:57.

really excited now, training starts tomorrow again. I have the same

:21:57.:22:03.

amount of time before the summer season starts, to the time I

:22:03.:22:07.

actually had when I started to run again. I have enough time. I am

:22:07.:22:13.

really excited. You mentioned training there, you changed your

:22:13.:22:21.

spikes. I changed my spikes. I can't believe it. Yesterday, I was

:22:22.:22:27.

wearing some tatty old spikes, if the truth be told. A week ago, last

:22:27.:22:33.

Saturday, I was out by local track in Wigan, doing a really hard

:22:33.:22:38.

training session, in the puddles at Wigan...

:22:38.:22:48.
:22:48.:22:49.

More importantly in Gothenburg, this is to stay in the competition.

:22:49.:22:57.

Steve Lewis. It wasn't to be. Steve Lewis is eliminated, he will finish

:22:57.:23:06.

in 6th place, equal 6th place. With Robert Sobera who has also been

:23:06.:23:10.

eliminated, the young Polish athlete. The battle for bronze

:23:11.:23:17.

continues. Any minute now, the bar will be put up to 5.86, and beyond.

:23:17.:23:22.

The British No. 1 was attempting to equal the decade long British

:23:22.:23:32.
:23:32.:23:32.

record to stay in the competition Coming back to your injury, it

:23:32.:23:39.

isn't a case of managing pain, or is it OK? A I am not in any pain. I

:23:39.:23:45.

have had a good meeting with our Performance Director. He was head

:23:45.:23:50.

physio it at one point. He has been brilliant. Talking to me, and

:23:50.:23:57.

Trevor, talking about training. What I am doing, what I need to do,

:23:57.:24:01.

what I want to be able to do. He has given me the green light to

:24:01.:24:06.

start so more drills, to get my speed back. The fastest think I

:24:06.:24:16.

have really done is going through 457. So, yes, I am looking forward

:24:16.:24:21.

to starting all of that tomorrow, as I say. I feel like a child all

:24:21.:24:28.

over again, starting mike and -- my athletics career. I am so excited.

:24:28.:24:33.

Paula Radcliffe, it was great to see Jenny Meadows back. It was

:24:33.:24:38.

really good to see her back. She says she came here and there was a

:24:38.:24:42.

little bow the race, but she is very mentally and physically strong

:24:42.:24:48.

which is showing. If nothing else, to go out there and savour

:24:48.:24:53.

competing, getting out there and do what you do best. Three very good

:24:53.:24:57.

training sessions have brought her on. You would have thought she

:24:57.:25:03.

would have a day off for. Always capitalise on it when it goes well.

:25:03.:25:09.

We a quick update on your fitness. How are things going with you? You

:25:09.:25:15.

have had the operation? I am at that stage work I am hoping and

:25:15.:25:19.

praying I can run again. And from that, work out whether I can get

:25:19.:25:24.

back to competing again. It is one step at a time, I just want to be

:25:24.:25:29.

pain-free and run after the children! Coming back to Jenny

:25:29.:25:35.

Meadows, as captain of the team, have you enjoyed that experience?

:25:35.:25:41.

Your speech, probably more nervous about that? The probably the

:25:41.:25:46.

easiest speech I have had to write. There are cliches in life, sport

can be crawl, you never know what you have until it is gone. As an

:25:51.:25:57.

athlete, you don't feel at churning but you drag yourself out. When you

:25:57.:26:01.

have been injured, you can't wait to do any sort of training session.

:26:01.:26:06.

I talked a lot about taking the opportunity, which I think this

:26:06.:26:11.

young British team has, the average age is 22 years old in the team.

:26:11.:26:21.

Some of the athletes, the way they have qualified, fought a European

:26:21.:26:24.

Athletics Indoor Championships, it is fantastic. They are kids,

:26:24.:26:32.

they're not afraid. When I was 20, 11 years ago, I made my debut at

:26:32.:26:41.

these championships. And looked around thinking, so many

:26:41.:26:46.

international athletes. It was great to be given the honour of

:26:46.:26:52.

team captain. It has given me a spring in my step. An interesting

:26:52.:26:56.

statistic, every single British woman in the team has made the

:26:56.:27:03.

final. I worked that one out myself, they have done fantastic. A few

:27:03.:27:07.

superstars in the team, Holly Bleasdale, Perri Shakes-Drayton.

:27:07.:27:12.

The face of British athletics, we are coming into a new Olympic cycle,

:27:12.:27:22.
:27:22.:27:25.

favourite in the long jump. A fantastic atmosphere inside the

:27:25.:27:35.
:27:35.:27:36.

arena, the crowd have got behind It is a young team, six medals so

:27:36.:27:43.

far. And counting. We have the relays to come. Peter Eriksson is

:27:43.:27:47.

the new head coach, quite a different man from Charles than

:27:47.:27:56.

commonly. Has there been a noticeable change? -- Charles Van

:27:56.:28:04.

Commenee. Charles didn't let you make any excuses. The athletes have

:28:04.:28:11.

had to do it themselves. Athletes are very accountable to themselves

:28:11.:28:17.

which is great. Peter is completely different. The little more human.

:28:17.:28:23.

He doesn't need to top athletics all the time. He asked what you

:28:23.:28:30.

have for breakfast. It is a great atmosphere. Thank you for chatting

:28:30.:28:33.

with us, good luck with the training tomorrow.

:28:33.:28:38.

No medal targets for the British team. We had our own medal

:28:38.:28:47.

Paula Radcliffe obviously got carried away, as did Denise, with

:28:47.:28:52.

five gold medals. But, Colin and Steve, you have not done too badly.

:28:52.:28:57.

I am still hoping that team will improve on my figure of a seven. It

:28:57.:29:02.

is a great target for them. With that in mind, what I am looking

:29:02.:29:06.

forward to this the European team championships in Gateshead, this is

:29:06.:29:10.

a real beginning of a new season. The team championships, a good

:29:10.:29:20.
:29:20.:29:36.

chance. We will come back to that again. He has led since his first

:29:36.:29:45.

round jump. Michel Torneus has had the crowd roaring him down the

:29:45.:29:52.

runway every time he's stepped on to the track. With that one,

:29:52.:30:02.

Alexander Menkov, I think has gone further ahead. He has, 8.31m. Two

:30:02.:30:06.

jumps to go. This is the situation in what has

:30:06.:30:15.

been an enthralling happen tath lon competition. Six of the seven event

:30:15.:30:19.

-- heptathlon competition. Six of the seven events have been

:30:19.:30:29.
:30:29.:30:43.

completed. Sintnicolaas is leading laps of the track. Because these

:30:43.:30:47.

guys are big fellas, it is a gruelling event to finish their

:30:47.:30:57.
:30:57.:31:04.

two-day competition. There are two good Dutch men in the overall field.

:31:04.:31:14.
:31:14.:31:47.

This is Kevin Mayer. He's had going into this last event. Here we

:31:48.:31:57.
:31:58.:32:18.

over Mayer of France. Mayer's problem is that - it is not a

:32:18.:32:28.
:32:28.:32:29.

problem, is it - it's a big cushion that Mayer has. One of the guys in

:32:29.:32:32.

there, in the red-and-white vest of Serbia, he is half-way down the

:32:32.:32:42.

field at the moment, he's got a two-second deficit at the moment.

:32:42.:32:46.

So there is a possibility the bronze medal could change hands

:32:46.:32:56.
:32:56.:33:06.

over the course of the next two laps. Lavillenie now. 5.91m in the

:33:06.:33:10.

pole vault, that is what he needs. That is fantastic! That is

:33:10.:33:15.

unbelievable. This guy is just head and shoulders better than anybody

:33:15.:33:25.
:33:25.:33:25.

else here today. Bjoern Otto has failed and passed on his two final

:33:25.:33:29.

attempts. Lavillenie has really driven a nail into the coffin of

:33:29.:33:39.
:33:39.:33:53.

the German now. Just over a lap- and-a-half to go now in this 1,000m

:33:53.:34:03.
:34:03.:34:19.

race. The Frenchman Mayer has the silver medal sewn on now. Dudas is

:34:19.:34:26.

going so well he could well be in with a shout for the bronze. We

:34:26.:34:34.

know who's got gold and silver. Dudas is raising his arms, he

:34:34.:34:43.

thinks he's done enough. He could have been two and a bit seconds

:34:43.:34:46.

ahead of the Czech Republic man. There is the champion in your

:34:46.:34:54.

picture now. The winning time was 2:36.84. That is four seconds

:34:54.:34:59.

outside of the time that was required to beat the Championship

:35:00.:35:09.
:35:10.:35:31.

it, he is one of the new stars of multi-events. There is strength in-

:35:31.:35:35.

depth in the United States in decast lon, though. I know during

:35:35.:35:41.

the American Championship -- decathalon, though. I know during

:35:41.:35:47.

the American Championship there is a good competition there going on

:35:47.:35:57.
:35:57.:36:15.

for the major honours. Kevin Mayer that Dudas has done enough to win

:36:15.:36:22.

the bronze medal, by just about four points, which is a

:36:22.:36:30.

tantalisingly close margin. Dudas is in the background there, wearing

:36:30.:36:40.
:36:40.:36:42.

4 on his vest. It looks as though he has moved up to third. What a

:36:42.:36:48.

great record this is from Renaud Lavillenie. He's cracked it! Surely,

:36:48.:36:54.

surely, we can see a 6m jump here today if he is going to carry on

:36:54.:37:04.

like this. Lavillenie is a class apart. Bjoern Otto has given up the

:37:04.:37:09.

ghost, despite the fact he's passed on 5.91m. I wonder whether we will

:37:09.:37:13.

see him. He is out there with his pole getting ready. We will have to

:37:13.:37:21.

wait and see. Christian Reif in the fourth round. This German knows

:37:21.:37:31.
:37:31.:37:35.

what he's got to do. There are the two marks by the Russian de Menezes

:37:35.:37:40.

and Michel Torneus of Sweden. -- by the Russian Alexander Menkov and

:37:40.:37:50.
:37:50.:37:50.

Michel Torneus of Sweden. It is 8.28m and 8.27m for gold and silver

:37:50.:37:56.

at the moment. 8.07m, he has improved. He's consolidated his

:37:56.:38:05.

position in third place. Bjoern Otto knows he is up against

:38:05.:38:11.

a fabulous competitor in Renaud Lavillenie. Lavillenie has not put

:38:11.:38:20.

a foot wrong here today. Take into account that Otto had one failure

:38:20.:38:25.

at 5.86m. This is 5.96m. He elected to pass his two further attempts to

:38:25.:38:29.

go for the greater height. He knows he's got to go higher than the

:38:30.:38:35.

Frenchman. That was tight. So one more attempt for the German.

:38:35.:38:40.

Otherwise gold, as predicted, I think, the whole pole vault

:38:40.:38:44.

fraternity knew Lavillenie was favourite. He has showed everybody

:38:44.:38:54.
:38:54.:38:56.

a clean pair of heels at the moment. There it is, the result that means

:38:56.:39:00.

Sintnicolaas produces the world's highest score this year - 6,372

:39:00.:39:10.
:39:10.:39:12.

points. A major breakthrough from Kevin Mayer. Mihail Dudas did get

:39:12.:39:22.
:39:22.:39:22.

ahead of Adam Helcelet to take the bronze medal.

:39:22.:39:28.

JONATHAN EDWARDS: We are always guaranteed drama in these indoor

:39:28.:39:34.

athletics. It should be the start of what could be a fantastic year

:39:34.:39:44.
:39:44.:39:44.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 63 seconds

:39:44.:40:45.

earlier on in the women's 3,000m. We can catch up with that now. A

:40:45.:40:51.

big moment for the young athlete. She didn't have the best of starts

:40:51.:40:56.

to her European Indoor final. A bit of bumping and barging. She ended

:40:56.:41:05.

up taking a nasty fall. STEVE CRAM: This is brave running

:41:05.:41:15.
:41:15.:41:23.

that is going to Portugal. The question is where are the other

:41:23.:41:33.
:41:33.:41:39.

medals going? There is still danger. The winner easily gliding around

:41:39.:41:43.

that top bend is Sara Moreira. There is a real scrap on for the

:41:43.:41:53.
:41:53.:41:55.

medals behind her. Harrer is looking for a gap. Harrer takes the

:41:55.:42:05.
:42:05.:42:07.

silver and Britton takes the bronze. JONATHAN EDWARDS: A good

:42:07.:42:12.

performance from Lauren Howarth. We can chat to Steve and to Paula. Not

:42:12.:42:18.

the ideal start for her, was it, the ideal start for her, was it,

:42:19.:42:25.

Paula? It did shake her a bit. I was encouraged to see her take the

:42:25.:42:29.

step up. There were a few times it got slower, very slow in the

:42:29.:42:33.

beginning, picked up a bit. It didn't pick up until the closing

:42:33.:42:37.

kilometre. A couple of times Lauren moved on to the shoulder of the

:42:37.:42:44.

leader and seemed afraid to attack it. Crammy, I guess that is why you

:42:44.:42:49.

come to these Championships, you learn how to conduct yourself when

:42:49.:42:54.

you are in a mix for a medal? is a hard taskmaster. When you do

:42:54.:42:59.

come, you are looking to make some right decisions. Lauren did well.

:42:59.:43:05.

We both agree she ran very well. To come in the top six, that was the

:43:05.:43:08.

selection criteria. There were maybe opportunities in that race to

:43:08.:43:13.

have a little bit of a go. There were one or two who went to the

:43:13.:43:18.

front tentatively. Lauren will look back on this. She is a good athlete.

:43:18.:43:22.

That was a race where three or four athlete also be thinking, "I could

:43:22.:43:32.
:43:32.:43:38.

have done a bit better." Fionnuala Britton took the bronze medal.

:43:38.:43:43.

is much more comfortable on the cross-country. She can use her

:43:43.:43:48.

ability to force hard and to run away. We watched her in the

:43:48.:43:51.

European Cross Country Championships crush Sara Moreira.

:43:51.:43:55.

Here on the track, it was a different story. Here, she perhaps

:43:55.:44:00.

was a bit overconfident in her closing pace. Thanks for the moment.

:44:00.:44:10.
:44:10.:44:20.

The men's 1500m coming up very has achieved throughout this

:44:21.:44:26.

competition, he has been consistent. But the medals are over eight

:44:26.:44:30.

metres. So, no improvement from Chris Tomlinson in terms of

:44:30.:44:40.
:44:40.:44:44.

Chris Tomlinson would turn up today. It was a solid performers, he will

best tactic. Some may be pleased with that. Some may not, Marcin

:46:38.:46:47.

write off in this race. At the front, controlling it, but not

:46:47.:46:50.

extending them. For Mahiedine Mekhissi was looking

:46:50.:46:58.

around to ask if there was anybody to make this pace faster. Mahiedine

:46:58.:47:04.

Mekhissi it is an athlete who says he likes to get into an aggressive

:47:04.:47:12.

:47:12.:47:20.

Not the most popular man. Now, Simon Denissel making a big effort,

:47:20.:47:26.

the pace has slowed too much. Ilham Tanui Ozbilen is determined to hold

:47:26.:47:34.

the lead. Picking it up again. Arturo Casado, realising the danger.

:47:34.:47:41.

Simon Denissel looks good. Mahiedine Mekhissi holding his own.

:47:41.:47:46.

It looks as if Ilham Tanui Ozbilen had gone to sleep. As Simon

:48:44.:48:52.

Ilham Tanui Ozbilen, in the last few strides, relinquishes the lead.

:48:52.:48:56.

The French are elated. So they should be. Mahiedine Mekhissi said

:48:57.:49:06.

it was a gamble. This time, he has sneaked it on the inside. He has

:49:06.:49:10.

won a few medals in the steeplechase that that, he is a

:49:10.:49:13.

strong man in the home straight and he has done it once again, this

:49:13.:49:20.

time, to take the gold medal. Mahiedine Mekhissi came here to win

:49:20.:49:26.

it, he was fighting right to the end. Simon Denissel settled for

:49:26.:49:34.

third place. Celebrating as he crossed the line. Once again,

Mahiedine Mekhissi has removed his shirt, which she got into trouble

She I have been watching her warm up. She is conserving her energy,

visualising what she needs to do for this race. If she can reproduce

:56:56.:57:00.

the start she had in that semi- final to get through to this final,

:57:00.:57:06.

then she is in good shape. We can take a look at that semi-final to

:57:06.:57:10.

see how she qualified for this final. We were impressed with her

:57:10.:57:16.

start, Colin? She is blessed with a natural gift for sprinting, a fluid

:57:16.:57:22.

technique. Watch her arms driving well, her shoulders are relaxed. As

she gets closer, watch her grip her hands. Going towards the mean,

Did he touch it? I don't think he did. Why has the judge put the red

:00:20.:00:30.
:00:30.:00:34.

flag up? Lavillenie is mystified. Look at that. Look at that. Well,

:00:34.:00:42.

my understanding is if the bar falls off, it is not a good jump.

:00:42.:00:46.

Maybe I should read the rule book and be certain, but Lavillenie

:00:46.:00:51.

knows the rules. That is for sure. He's absolutely distraught. He's

:00:52.:00:59.

won the gold medal. He's achieved one of the great vaults in history.

:00:59.:01:09.
:01:09.:01:09.

My goodness, what a dramatic climax to this competition. The rule book

:01:09.:01:19.
:01:19.:01:35.

of these women in the women's 60m final, Denise?

:01:35.:01:39.

DENISE LEWIS: This happens, this is athletics. They have to get on with

:01:39.:01:49.

the job in hand. Let's get to the commentators.

:01:49.:01:58.

ANDREW COTTER: What atmosphere inside the arena. This is the line-

:01:58.:02:08.
:02:08.:02:08.

up for the women's 60m final. Tezdzhan Naimova is a controversial

:02:08.:02:15.

character. Has run personal bests in both rounds. Myriam Soumare,

:02:15.:02:23.

7.07 in the semifinal. They have been getting quicker and quicker

:02:23.:02:27.

through the rounds. It's not often the case that all eight have a

:02:27.:02:33.

realistic chance of a medal, but it is the case here. Ivet Lalova, the

:02:33.:02:40.

second Bulgarian in this field. Asha Philip, her zone is a happy

:02:40.:02:47.

dancing zone. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things, but

:02:47.:02:55.

a different approach to that we saw in the semifinals. Verena Sailer,

:02:55.:03:05.
:03:05.:03:28.

excitement of the pole vault, the noise falls away again to the noise

:03:28.:03:31.

made by the athletes readying themselves for the final of the

:03:31.:03:41.
:03:41.:04:08.

away quickly, Ryemyen coming through and Naimova as well, so, so

:04:08.:04:15.

close between the Bulgarian and the Ukrainian on either side of Myriam

:04:15.:04:22.

Soumare. But Naimova and Ryemyen, they don't know, we don't know, and

:04:22.:04:32.
:04:32.:04:34.

the photo will settle it. Ryemyen has fallen. She is getting treated.

:04:34.:04:40.

Naimova and Ryemyen came through and I think we can see in the photo

:04:40.:04:45.

there - Naimova has been given it officially at the moment as 7.10,

:04:46.:04:53.

same time as Mariya Ryemyen. On the photofinish, Asha Philip was in

:04:53.:05:00.

seventh, I think. We will get confirmation of that. She was not

:05:00.:05:07.

up there. Naimova has been given it ahead of Ryemyen, Soumare in third.

:05:07.:05:15.

Naimova, well, a moment for her to celebrate. Here they got away and

:05:15.:05:21.

it was Soumare away quickly. On either side she felt the presence

:05:21.:05:29.

of Ryemyen and Naimova. We thought it was going to be a close final.

:05:29.:05:34.

It was. Soumare, who ran 7.07 in the semifinal, that would have been

:05:34.:05:40.

good enough for the gold here. 7.10 and a photogives it to Tezdzhan

:05:40.:05:45.

Naimova. STEVE CRAM: If I was Ryemyen's

:05:45.:05:53.

coach, I would be saying, "Why did you not dip?" Watch this.

:05:53.:05:59.

Look at Ryemyen, look how Naimova has more of a lead. Ryemyen needs

:05:59.:06:04.

to lean for the line. She loses the gold medal. Colin Jackson will be

:06:04.:06:10.

thinking, "Oh my goodness!" She was in a position to win that. Naimova

:06:10.:06:17.

takes the gold medal with that forward lean. The closest race.

:06:17.:06:23.

6/100ths of a second between first and last.

:06:23.:06:33.
:06:33.:06:36.

ANDREW COTTER: Asha Philip has done as well as she could have done.

:06:36.:06:42.

Naimova is running as quick now, in fact quicker than she ever has. She

:06:42.:06:49.

is the gold medallist here over 60m. Both 60m finals here, the men's and

:06:49.:06:59.
:06:59.:07:07.

the women's, have been decided by here and what a moment it was. The

:07:07.:07:12.

moment just a few seconds was for Tezdzhan Naimova with a personal

:07:12.:07:18.

best. She just got it on the photofinish from the non-dipping

:07:18.:07:28.
:07:28.:07:33.

Mariya Ryemyen. Asha Philip down in Major final, after all you have

:07:34.:07:37.

been through, to equal your personal best, tell me about it.

:07:37.:07:45.

am really happy. I can't complain. To be here, I'm over the moon.

:07:45.:07:50.

can see how close it is, fractions between all of you there? I know.

:07:50.:08:00.

It was a very tight race. You aim for a medal, or a podium position,

:08:00.:08:07.

but I'm upset. I can't complain. The fact I'm here now, I can't

:08:07.:08:10.

complain. That is a great attitude to have. In spite of everything you

:08:10.:08:13.

have been through, you wanted a podium finish. That is what you

:08:13.:08:19.

want in the future? It is. I have been out for so long now. I have

:08:19.:08:24.

had little injuries. I told my cousins it is going to be a long

:08:25.:08:29.

road, but you have to get over it. You have to accept the fact you are

:08:29.:08:34.

injured and you need to come back stronger. You have done yourself

:08:34.:08:38.

real credit. Congratulations? you very much. Hi, family, love you

:08:38.:08:40.

all! JONATHAN EDWARDS: I'm sure they

:08:41.:08:45.

love you too after that. A great performance, Denise? Yes, she can

:08:45.:08:50.

be very proud of herself. She's come here, set a new personal best,

:08:51.:08:55.

or equallyed her personal best. It is a great run -- or equalled her

:08:55.:08:59.

personal best. It is a great run. She could not have envisaged this.

:08:59.:09:04.

She gets out really well. You can't criticise her start. She maintains

:09:04.:09:09.

her form. The other girls have literally raised their game round

:09:09.:09:15.

by round and she's had to live with this. It's a fantastic run. Still a

:09:15.:09:24.

young girl and now her career can really start again. We isolate now

:09:24.:09:29.

on Asha. A lovely smooth start that she has. The encouragement she can

:09:29.:09:34.

take, she was involved in the blanket finish at the European

:09:34.:09:39.

Indoors. 6/100th of a second covered from first to eighth place.

:09:39.:09:44.

That is how tight it was. It is a great turning point for her. The

:09:44.:09:49.

fact that she had a whole set of consistent races and that's very

:09:49.:09:53.

tough at this level, to keep repeating at a very, very high

:09:53.:09:59.

level. She's matured into a senior athlete already. Fantastic!

:09:59.:10:04.

controversy in it, unlike the men's pole vault. Renaud Lavillenie had

:10:04.:10:10.

won this competition with a clearance of 6.01m. He raised the

:10:10.:10:16.

bar to 6.07m. This was his final attempt. We all thought he had got

:10:16.:10:22.

it. He gave it a rattle. This made him the second-highest vaulter of

:10:22.:10:29.

all time. He got a red flag. It ended up, the bar, sitting on top

:10:29.:10:39.
:10:39.:10:41.

of not the upright, but another part above that. It was incredibly

:10:41.:10:45.

upsetting, Denise? These things can happen. He is clearly devastated.

:10:45.:10:54.

OK. Despite feeling he was hard done to there, he is still the

:10:54.:11:00.

European Indoor Champion. It was really comprehensive. Steve Lewis,

:11:00.:11:06.

a season's best, down in sixth place. He spoke to Phil.

:11:06.:11:11.

Steve, what a competition and a season's best from you, your

:11:11.:11:16.

verdict? Yeah, pretty tough indoor season. So really happy with a

:11:16.:11:21.

season's best. Back-to-back days jumping. I have work to do for the

:11:21.:11:25.

outdoors. I knew that. I'm happy with my result. It's a good

:11:25.:11:28.

reflection of where I'm at right now. It gives you a perfect

:11:28.:11:32.

platform for what is to come? hope so. I was jumping again for

:11:32.:11:36.

the medals, third place, 5.81m would have been there. I can jump

:11:36.:11:42.

that height. I need more confidence, more training. A good competition.

:11:42.:11:46.

Crazy results. The great thing is you were always in the mix. You are

:11:46.:11:52.

always in the mix nowadays? I suppose the next step for you is to

:11:52.:11:58.

get on the podium more regularly? Exactly. 5.80m is the mark to get

:11:58.:12:04.

on to the podium. Then there is another gap between Bjoern Otto and

:12:04.:12:07.

Renaud Lavillenie. I know what I have got to do. I will do more of

:12:07.:12:11.

the same and come back stronger. Talking of Renaud Lavillenie, what

:12:11.:12:16.

is your take on what he has been able to do today and that clearance

:12:16.:12:25.

at 6.07m that wasn't? 6.01m was phenomenal. And then the 6.07m,

:12:25.:12:28.

obviously it's one of those things. If the upright was different, and

:12:28.:12:33.

it wasn't as thick, or it was round, it would have rolled off. As a pole

:12:33.:12:40.

vaulter, you want to see a white flag. It is the rule. It sucks.

:12:40.:12:44.

Explain for those people watching at home why it didn't count.

:12:44.:12:49.

bar on one side jumped off the peg on to the upright, so if the

:12:49.:12:53.

upright was different, it would have rolled off. They deem it -

:12:53.:12:57.

unless the bar stays on the peg itself, they deem it a failure. The

:12:57.:13:02.

probability of that happening is like one in 500 billion! That is a

:13:02.:13:06.

shame for him. Good to see you getting back to the heights we know

:13:07.:13:12.

you are capable of. Thanks, Steve. Thank you.

:13:12.:13:17.

Steve Lewis explaining much more articulately what I tried to do

:13:17.:13:25.

earlier on. Next up is the relay, starting with the women's 4 x 400m.

:13:25.:13:33.

Eilidh Child starts it off, Denise. We have Shana Cox, Christine

:13:33.:13:39.

Ohuruogu comes in at three and Perri Shakes-Drayton in four. So

:13:39.:13:49.
:13:49.:14:15.

favourites. -- Great Britain at Sweden. Their real strength is in

:14:15.:14:25.
:14:25.:14:37.

the second leg, with Hjelmer. They Rosolova, the former indoor

:14:37.:14:43.

champion, silver-medallist as a hurdler as well in Europe. She

:14:43.:14:52.

leads them out. Child macro leads Great Britain out.

:14:52.:15:02.
:15:02.:15:08.

60m. Here she is leading them off.

:15:08.:15:15.

You cream, Zemlyak on the anchor leg. A good team from Russia but

:15:15.:15:25.
:15:25.:15:27.

just not a vintage team. Ksenia Zadorina is the anchor.

:15:27.:15:33.

The British quartet know that this is the race, if they do everything

:15:33.:15:43.
:15:43.:15:47.

properly and run to their abilities, the individual. Shana Cox. And

:15:47.:15:51.

Christine Ohuruogu coming in, on the third leg, she does have run

:15:51.:16:01.
:16:01.:16:20.

three. Denisa Rosolova for the Czech Republic will try to stamp

:16:20.:16:24.

her authority, but Eilidh Child is very strong and it will be credited

:16:24.:16:31.

to hand on the baton if to Shana Cox. Myriam Soumare for France. She

:16:31.:16:37.

is not a 400-metre specialist. She is a 200 metres runner. She must be

:16:37.:16:42.

tired from her efforts in the 60m not so long ago. Eilidh Child is

:16:42.:16:49.

out in front at the moment. STEVE CRAM: This is just what Great

:16:49.:16:53.

Britain would want, leading from the front. The Russians not getting

:16:53.:16:59.

off to a good start. The gold medal should be great Britain's as long

:16:59.:17:06.

as they don't do anything. Shana Cox needs to hold this, she cannot

:17:06.:17:11.

let the Czech team get ahead. Just remember there is a British record

:17:11.:17:15.

set six years ago. This team is good enough if they still have it

:17:15.:17:19.

in their legs. The ease two, as expected,

:17:19.:17:26.

beginning to separate themselves from the rest. The Russians are

:17:26.:17:31.

beginning to drift back slightly. Involved in a tussle with France.

:17:32.:17:36.

At the moment, it is still Shana Cox in front for Great Britain,

:17:36.:17:42.

ahead of the Czech Republic. The Russians are starting to close down

:17:42.:17:49.

been little with the French. They are not out of touch yet.

:17:49.:17:54.

The Russians have Nadezhda Kotliarova. On the third leg. I do

:17:54.:17:57.

not think she will get close to Christine Ohuruogu. She has been

:17:57.:18:04.

waiting in the wings, not here for the individuals. This time, she has

:18:04.:18:10.

started quickly. The Russian moving into second place. France, still in

:18:10.:18:17.

with a shout. Christine needs to kick the pressure on. The Russians

:18:17.:18:21.

are closing. Their best run it is on the last leg, Kseniya Ustalova

:18:21.:18:26.

did not make it, the individual number one, she felt in the

:18:26.:18:35.

individual event. They still have Ksenia Zadorina it in the last leg.

:18:35.:18:40.

Christine Ohuruogu it is a strong finisher outdoors in the 400m. A

:18:40.:18:47.

very good leg for Russia for Nadezhda Kotliarova. Handing over

:18:47.:18:50.

to Perri Shakes-Drayton. It should be down to the individual champion

:18:50.:18:56.

to take Great Britain home. She will be chased hard by Ksenia

:18:56.:19:01.

Zadorina from Russia. France a run Byrd, Czech Republic in 4th place.

:19:01.:19:04.

Perri Shakes-Drayton is out in front at the moment, looking strong

:19:04.:19:10.

enough as they come down to one lap to go. Ksenia Zadorina tried to get

:19:10.:19:16.

in touch, as the bell sounds. Shakes-Drayton, the individual

:19:16.:19:21.

champion, the British record up for grabs. The gold medal is their

:19:21.:19:27.

priority. Perri Shakes-Drayton, it still clear of the Russian who is

:19:27.:19:32.

holding on. Perri Shakes-Drayton should have the strength, should

:19:32.:19:37.

have the class to bring this home for Great Britain. Their first

:19:37.:19:47.
:19:47.:19:47.

victory in the women's 4x400. This is a new British record for this

:19:47.:19:54.

quartet. Perri Shakes-Drayton did what she knew she could do, we all

:19:54.:20:01.

knew she would do. Christine Ohuruogu, Shana Cox, Eilidh Child

:20:01.:20:08.

will join them soon. The British indoor record holders in the 4x400

:20:08.:20:18.
:20:18.:20:30.

expect, 51.2 on that final leg. That British record team in to 1006

:20:30.:20:40.
:20:40.:20:43.

had Nicola Sanderson in it, lee mcconnell -- Lee McConnell. It was

:20:43.:20:47.

a question of whether they still had it in their legs. Perri Shakes-

:20:47.:20:51.

Drayton was put under some pressure on that last leg, Christine

:20:51.:20:57.

Ohuruogu gave hurried good few yards. Ksenia Zadorina was a fresh,

:20:57.:21:07.

and it was important that Great Britain was given a few metres.

:21:07.:21:13.

Christine bided her time well. Giving some clear air to Perri

:21:13.:21:18.

Shakes-Drayton. That meant Ksenia Zadorina had to attack in the first

:21:18.:21:24.

200 metres. Perri could not sit back. The Russian makes up the

:21:24.:21:28.

ground quickly. By doing that, she has expended more energy which will

:21:28.:21:33.

come into play it in the last 60m. Perri Shakes-Drayton it is relaxed,

:21:33.:21:39.

we have seen that all weekend, look at that form. You wouldn't think

:21:39.:21:43.

she had run so quickly, under 51 seconds, earlier today. She knows

:21:43.:21:47.

the Russian will be trying to get onto her shoulder. Keeping the

:21:47.:21:54.

pressure on. Don't let it slacked off. From the bend, you want to use

:21:54.:22:00.

the momentum into the home straight. There was no challenge. Perri

:22:00.:22:05.

Shakes-Drayton, clear up and away, and a British record to go with a

:22:05.:22:11.

fantastic gold medal. A very good run by Zuzana Hejnova,

:22:11.:22:16.

for the Czech Republic, to take the bronze medal. It is all about his

:22:16.:22:20.

quartet. Not only taking the gold medal but that British record. We

:22:20.:22:30.
:22:30.:22:48.

knew it was a very talented quartet. A super performance from the

:22:48.:22:52.

British quartet. We expected them to win. The British record is a

:22:52.:22:59.

bonus. As you said, we expected them to

:22:59.:23:06.

win. Perri has been in supreme form. To add Christine Ohuruogu into that

:23:06.:23:11.

quartet was a great mood. She is clearly setting the race up for

:23:11.:23:16.

Perri, not to Coast, she had to control it. And she did that. A new

:23:16.:23:20.

British record, fantastic performance.

:23:20.:23:25.

The Russians made them think, Colin. But Eilidh Child set them up right

:23:25.:23:30.

from the start. It is important to get a strong, confident start. Her

:23:30.:23:34.

new-found confidence has made a difference. She took it to

:23:34.:23:39.

everybody. Having is of a medal from this javelin ships says, I am

:23:39.:23:44.

the second best 400m runner in these have championships. And,

:23:44.:23:50.

guess who is the first? She is in our last leg.

:23:50.:23:55.

DENISE LEWIS: Shana Cox run extremely well. There was some

:23:55.:23:58.

question whether she should be in, she just about made it into that

:23:59.:24:03.

400m final, but she ran really well and justified her position.

:24:03.:24:08.

There was quite a bit of top, we anticipated Margaret Adeoye might

:24:08.:24:14.

come in, she has been in good form. As you say, Shana Cox has shown a

:24:14.:24:19.

lot of grit. If she did indeed. These girls know each other, they

:24:19.:24:23.

rely on each other and trust each other. If it is a question of

:24:23.:24:27.

raising their game, you know she is going to do that. If we have talked

:24:27.:24:32.

about the strength of this women's team. They have all made finals.

:24:32.:24:41.

Speaking of gold medals. Denise is really happy about that. It has

:24:41.:24:46.

been a fantastic championships for our women. It is wonderful to see.

:24:46.:24:51.

One thing Jenny Meadows said when she was here, she was passing on

:24:51.:24:57.

advice and knowledge. Throwing those flowers to the men in the

:24:58.:25:05.

team. It is a nice thing for them. It shows the team spirit which is

:25:05.:25:09.

held be. They have a lot of confidence. The team is young, they

:25:09.:25:15.

are moving forward. From the time when we were involved, there is a

:25:15.:25:20.

much stronger sense of unity now, lottery funding has brought that

:25:20.:25:27.

centralisation of training places. It has made a difference. Yes. It

:25:27.:25:31.

is self-belief, everyone wants to be part of that success. Those who

:25:31.:25:35.

missed out last year are looking at how they need to improve. We're in

:25:35.:25:40.

a healthy position, British Athletics. Everyone wants to ride

:25:40.:25:45.

on the back of that. Gold medal for the women. And a British record. I

:25:45.:25:50.

am sure watching that keenly worthy male quartet, we have three men in

:25:50.:25:57.

the final of the 400m. Richard Strachan is on the last leg. Nigel

:25:57.:26:04.

Levine, number three. Richard Buck runs second. Michael Bingham is on

:26:04.:26:11.

the first leg. Colin, again, we should be looking at a gold medal?

:26:11.:26:16.

Yes, it is going to be tough, as we always know. The men will be very

:26:16.:26:26.
:26:26.:26:27.

competitive. We can guarantee that in the men's 4x4. But that they

:26:27.:26:30.

will be inspired by the women's team. They have seen what they have

:26:30.:26:34.

done. The men will believe in themselves, we have had a great

:26:34.:26:39.

tradition. As you say, it is a sense of running for each other.

:26:39.:26:45.

And pushing each other on which is what makes this team magical.

:26:46.:26:50.

of the Borlee brothers running for the Belgian team, interesting they

:26:50.:26:54.

chose not to run individually. of them has not been in great shape.

:26:54.:27:04.

I think we should expect the Czech Republic to be strong, Russia. I am

:27:04.:27:09.

hoping... The men's race will be fierce and aggressive. Let's hope

:27:09.:27:18.

they do well. Chat position is very important. With the likes of Pavel

:27:18.:27:22.

Maslak and Trenikhin, if they are in contact, they will run people

:27:22.:27:27.

down. That's what makes them dangers. We don't have the luxury

:27:27.:27:31.

of someone being closer to someone like Pavel Maslak. He has the

:27:31.:27:34.

opportunity to run anybody down because his time is so strong, and

:27:34.:27:41.

he is full of confidence. The pressure is on. The pressure is on

:27:42.:27:45.

Michael Bingham to get the team off to a solid start, that will be

:27:45.:27:50.

vital for this team. But they will give it some, you can guarantee

:27:50.:28:00.
:28:00.:28:09.

that. They will work hard for the - commentary position for this one.

:28:09.:28:14.

Thank you, Jonathan. What an exciting climax to the whole

:28:14.:28:19.

weekend. A great run from the women, can the men follow suit? Russia

:28:19.:28:25.

will be their big rivals. Belgian, weakened by the injury to Jonathan

:28:25.:28:33.

Borlee. Poland, Sweden, Czech Republic will be competing with

:28:33.:28:38.

Belgium for the bronze, I think. It is between Britain and Russia. The

:28:38.:28:43.

British team we talked about, Michael Bingham will lead them off.

:28:43.:28:48.

Richard Buck, Nigel Levine, Richard Strachan. Let us go through them

:28:48.:28:58.
:28:58.:29:07.

Czech Republic. Pavel Maslak could Dragan into a medal.

:29:07.:29:13.

Sweden, in the past, they have done reasonably well. If familiar name

:29:13.:29:18.

to fans, Johan Wissman, going on the third leg, making the

:29:18.:29:22.

transition from 200 metres. Poland, in years gone by, have had a great

:29:22.:29:28.

team, but not this one. Adam Kszczot who might have gone into

:29:28.:29:35.

this team, is not in there. Belgium definitely would have been a

:29:35.:29:45.
:29:45.:30:02.

Russian team in a second. There's Pavel Trenikhin. He was

:30:02.:30:08.

disqualified and then he was reinstated so he is the bronze

:30:08.:30:18.
:30:18.:30:32.

medallist and he has been given the Strachan - I think he needs a

:30:32.:30:38.

decent lead. If Krasnov is on his shoulder, it will be to their

:30:38.:30:48.

advantage. The British women are watching this. They are hoping the

:30:48.:30:58.
:30:58.:31:08.

take control of this race early, just as Eilidh Child did. Trenikhin

:31:08.:31:14.

hasn't started particularly fast here. Poland have started very

:31:14.:31:19.

quickly. The Czech Republic on the inside. Bingham might get across

:31:19.:31:24.

here. So Great Britain are where they want to be. Trenikhin will try

:31:24.:31:28.

and attack. He wasn't in such good shape in the individual. Now he

:31:28.:31:32.

tries to go past Bingham and manages to do so. Russia taking the

:31:32.:31:36.

advantage early. Bingham has to hang on to him.

:31:36.:31:40.

Trenikhin is starting to flap a little bit. This is a handsome lead

:31:40.:31:50.
:31:50.:31:53.

that Russia has built. He hands over to Trambovetskiy. There may be

:31:53.:31:59.

some trouble here for the British quartet as Richard Buck headed

:31:59.:32:06.

towards the infield area. The Pole came across, so Richard Buck found

:32:06.:32:13.

himself on the infield. Then Kevin Borlee came past him. He is looking

:32:13.:32:18.

to strike for Belgium. Russia still in the lead. Belgium in second.

:32:18.:32:27.

Buck trying to get Britain involved here. Borlee is on the shoulder of

:32:27.:32:30.

Trambovetskiy who is dying down the home straight! A wonderful effort

:32:30.:32:37.

for Belgium. Now Gillet takes it out. This is between Russia and

:32:37.:32:42.

Great Britain, believe me. That was their worst runner on the second

:32:42.:32:51.

leg. Now, they just manage to hold the advantage. Nigel Levine has to

:32:51.:32:56.

be patient here. Levine needs to attack here. He will want to give

:32:56.:33:01.

Richard Strachan the lead so he can control the second leg, sorry the

:33:01.:33:08.

last leg. Levine takes it on. Russia hanging on but we need a

:33:08.:33:15.

good lead here because Krasnov will attack on the last leg. This is

:33:15.:33:20.

brilliant leg. Strachan have the baton. Russia are second. Is that

:33:20.:33:30.
:33:30.:33:31.

lead too much for Krasnov? Strachan has to go hard. He doesn't need to

:33:31.:33:35.

go too hard! There was a bit of pushing and shoving behind the

:33:35.:33:40.

Russian. Strachan's got this, surely. Great Britain miles ahead.

:33:40.:33:45.

This is good running from the team. Krasnov is pulling away from those

:33:45.:33:50.

behind him. He has the man who won the individual gold medal hunting

:33:50.:33:56.

him down for a medal. So Maslak is trying to take silver. It is all

:33:56.:34:00.

about Great Britain. Richard Strachan bringing it home! Great

:34:01.:34:06.

Britain get the gold. Russia hang on for silver. Poland once more in

:34:06.:34:12.

the medals. Maslak couldn't work his magic. Never in doubt, really,

:34:12.:34:17.

after Nigel Levine's leg. It was a brilliant run by Levine. He did

:34:17.:34:26.

well. That's been reflected in the times I have been handed. 47.1 for

:34:26.:34:32.

Bingham. 46.3 for Buck. The Polish athlete comes across. Richard gives

:34:32.:34:37.

him a nudge to say, "I'm here." Two steps on the - one step on the

:34:37.:34:42.

inside. Well, he was pushed there, he didn't decide to go there. So it

:34:42.:34:49.

would be harsh if there was any disqualification suggested. Let's

:34:49.:34:52.

have another look at this. Andrew, we expect pushing and shoving.

:34:52.:35:02.
:35:02.:35:04.

Watch this. The Pole comes across hard. He did well to maintain some

:35:04.:35:09.

momentum. He did very well. We have seen disqualifications during this

:35:09.:35:14.

meeting for getting out of position. This is another look at it. It is

:35:14.:35:21.

the Pole on the second leg Omelko coming across. That will be the

:35:21.:35:25.

mitigating circumstances for Richard Buck. One full step on the

:35:25.:35:30.

infield. He did well to recover from that position to run a decent

:35:30.:35:36.

time. Britain have the gold medal at the moment. To finish off, Nigel

:35:36.:35:41.

Levine ran 45.8 and 46.5 for Richard Strachan. Gold for the men

:35:41.:35:45.

and it was gold for the women a few minutes ago. They were watching all

:35:45.:35:48.

minutes ago. They were watching all of that. They are with Phil. They

:35:48.:35:52.

have shared in all the excitement with us down attractside. What a

:35:52.:35:56.

day you have had? Yeah, it's been a great day. It was tough coming back

:35:56.:36:00.

tonight and having to put in a performance. I am delighted we came

:36:00.:36:06.

out with the gold. You led the team out marvellously well. Perri,

:36:06.:36:11.

double European Champion, how does that sound? I have had a very good

:36:11.:36:15.

day! We all wanted it for each other. So we went out there and

:36:15.:36:21.

gave it all we could. We are all going home with a gold! Perri is

:36:21.:36:24.

used to delivering as a favourite and you are used to that yourself.

:36:24.:36:33.

You have done it again? These girls, they did phenomenally well to run

:36:33.:36:38.

three fours and an extra 400m for the relay. Everyone is so tired but

:36:38.:36:45.

to come back and give it one final effort. Everybody managed to keep

:36:45.:36:50.

the lead. I think I am really proud of them. What about that lap of

:36:50.:36:54.

honour, when you have the flag draped around you? What goes

:36:54.:36:59.

through your mind? It felt good. It is always positive when you go

:36:59.:37:04.

through a long three days and end on a good note like that. Everybody

:37:04.:37:08.

worked very hard. Proud of everybody and relief. We are

:37:08.:37:12.

hearing that GB men have been disqualified. We were talking about

:37:12.:37:17.

the potential for Richard stepping on the track. That's a

:37:17.:37:22.

disqualification, unless you have been nudged? He seemed to be

:37:22.:37:27.

nudged? From what I saw, he was pushed out. He lost balance, he

:37:27.:37:31.

went out of the lane with one leg and recovered quickly enough to get

:37:31.:37:35.

back in lane. I'm surprised they have done that. It is a harsh call.

:37:35.:37:45.
:37:45.:37:49.

I don't think it was his fault. Hopefully, there will be a counter-

:37:49.:37:53.

protest! A gold medal, girls, well done.

:37:54.:37:59.

JONATHAN EDWARDS: Peter Eriksson has joined us. Sorry you have been

:37:59.:38:05.

thrust at the deep end. What is your reaction? It was pretty

:38:05.:38:09.

obvious that he had nowhere to go, Richard, he took one step inside,

:38:09.:38:13.

which was the same thing that happened in the 400m, but the

:38:13.:38:18.

Russian guy did the same thing and then later got reinstated. We can

:38:18.:38:21.

then later got reinstated. We can have a look now. Michael Bingham

:38:21.:38:27.

coming in. It is the Polish athlete who comes across. As you say, he

:38:27.:38:33.

didn't have much choice, did he? he had the lane on the inside. So

:38:33.:38:38.

he was in the right and he took one step inside. That was the same

:38:38.:38:43.

thing that happened in the 400m final. The Russian guy got

:38:43.:38:47.

disqualified first and reinstated. I don't see a difference on

:38:47.:38:51.

judgment on this one. You were on the phone before we came back to

:38:52.:38:59.

the studio, obviously putting in an appeal? The whole thing has been

:38:59.:39:04.

filmed, so we have it on our own video, they are making sure the

:39:04.:39:07.

protest goes in against this. This would not be right. We will keep

:39:07.:39:11.

across any developments regarding the men's team. This has been your

:39:11.:39:15.

first taste of Championships athletics as the head coach. How do

:39:15.:39:19.

you feel it's gone? It's been really good. If you look at the

:39:19.:39:22.

team we had, we had all of the women went to the final. We had

:39:22.:39:27.

only three guys that didn't. I think that is a great outcome of

:39:27.:39:30.

the selection we had to achieve the goal on having all the athletes

:39:30.:39:36.

selected going to the final. That was the goal. I think you can see

:39:36.:39:40.

personal bests, so the team have done great. It is a young team and

:39:40.:39:43.

the beginning of an Olympic cycle. Some athletes a bit of a hangover

:39:43.:39:47.

from the Games, others with something to prove. It's been a

:39:47.:39:52.

good start to this next four-year programme? Yes. We have a really

:39:52.:39:56.

good team. We have a very good coaching support team that support

:39:56.:40:00.

all of the athletes to get to the right point. You can see how well

:40:00.:40:06.

they work together here. It's been fantastic. We had Jenny Meadows up

:40:06.:40:11.

here, she spoke articulately about the atmosphere within the team, the

:40:11.:40:15.

way you are all supporting each other and the new approach that you

:40:15.:40:25.
:40:25.:40:26.

have brought in compared to Charles van Commenee? She has been

:40:26.:40:31.

fantastic. Her coach made sure she eat the right meatballs to get to

:40:31.:40:35.

the start line! She has been doing really well. She's consistent

:40:35.:40:41.

throughout three rounds in running 800m. Give her a few more months,

:40:41.:40:44.

she will be back to where she was before. We are going to head on to

:40:44.:40:49.

the track, the British men's 4 x 400m relay team are still

:40:49.:40:52.

celebrating. I think they still believe that they have won the gold

:40:52.:40:55.

medal. Whether they have been told they have been disqualified and

:40:55.:41:01.

they think it is going to be fine, I don't know. You thought somebody

:41:01.:41:08.

might have told them by now? don't know. They haven't done much

:41:08.:41:13.

wrong. Richard Buck - I hope they don't lose that medal. They are

:41:13.:41:18.

about to find out from Phil. I have broken the news to the guys.

:41:19.:41:23.

You were celebrating coming off. You have been disqualified for

:41:23.:41:28.

coming off the track. You appeared to be nudged off the track, so

:41:28.:41:32.

there was very little you could do? It is the Polish guy who knocked me

:41:32.:41:39.

in. I tried to stay on, but I had to drop out wide. We can show it to

:41:39.:41:43.

you. You can have a look and see what happened. There is not much

:41:43.:41:50.

place to go. How many steps was it? One? Here we go. Let's see. The

:41:50.:41:55.

Polish guy comes across. And then right here - there's the nudge.

:41:55.:42:05.
:42:05.:42:08.

Really, you have... Look! It is one step. It is a DQ? It is a DQ if you

:42:08.:42:15.

do it of your own volition. That is a blatant push, right? The guy cut

:42:15.:42:19.

in. He wasn't running a normal course. That is not normal running.

:42:19.:42:24.

Now, I suppose there is a case of the British team putting in a

:42:24.:42:30.

counter-protest? Yes, the thing is, if the race was really close, and

:42:30.:42:35.

we made a mistake, but we won the race by quite a distance in the end.

:42:35.:42:40.

Really, I think, if the Russian team, or the Polish team came off

:42:40.:42:46.

the track, personally, although they would be disqualified as well,

:42:46.:42:50.

they were rightfully the gold medal winners. Hopefully, we will get

:42:50.:42:56.

that ourselves. Let's hope so. I feel terrible for bursting your

:42:56.:43:01.

bubble. These things happen in 400m indoors. There we go. Thank you

:43:01.:43:04.

very much. Thank you. There's a possibility we may not

:43:04.:43:09.

know the result of that before we go off air. If that is the case, it

:43:09.:43:14.

will be on the BBC website. Let's look at the medal table and see how

:43:14.:43:21.

the British team have done. Peter, you made a point of not making any

:43:21.:43:27.

medal predictions. This is our own predictions. We will see the other

:43:27.:43:34.

medal table shortly. Eight medals in total. Nobody got it right.

:43:34.:43:41.

Denise, Steve and Colin circled it. Paula Radcliffe was over the top!

:43:41.:43:45.

You didn't make any medal predictions. You come away with

:43:45.:43:52.

eight. We can see it there, at the moment sitting in third place. It

:43:52.:43:56.

doesn't include the last race. You must be content with that?

:43:56.:44:02.

happy. The goal was to do better and to do our best. The change in

:44:02.:44:08.

this relay, we would have one more gold than we had last time. So I

:44:08.:44:11.

think we should be happy as a team with this. It is the start of the

:44:11.:44:16.

year and the start of a new era and a new team. It looks great to me.

:44:16.:44:21.

bit of a word, Colin, about Perri Shakes-Drayton. She has come away

:44:21.:44:25.

with a couple of gold medals? Outstanding performance. After what

:44:25.:44:30.

happened to her at the Olympic Games when she had a sore hamstring,

:44:30.:44:35.

she's come here and changed everybody's opinion of her.

:44:35.:44:38.

other individual gold medal, Denise, was from Holly Bleasdale. She came

:44:38.:44:43.

in as favourite and delivered? did. It was a great performance

:44:43.:44:48.

from her. Completely raised her game. Her attitude was great in the

:44:48.:44:55.

jump-off. OK. Good news and in perfect time, the British men's 4 x

:44:55.:44:59.

400m relay team have been reinstated, which is great news!

:44:59.:45:05.

That is it from Gothenburg. Overall, a very encourage perTor mance from

:45:05.:45:10.

the British team and for -- performance from the British team

:45:10.:45:13.

and for Perri Shakes-Drayton, two gold medals in one day, it is not

:45:13.:45:22.

bad. Thanks for your company. Goodbye. Holly Bleasdale is the

:45:22.:45:29.

champion! Dasaolu takes the silver. Mukhtar

:45:29.:45:37.

Mohammed coming through to take the bronze! Running out of lane there.

:45:37.:45:47.
:45:47.:45:52.
