Welcome to the third and final day of the European indoor athletics

:00:48.:00:53.

Championships in Belgrade, capital of Serbia and birthplace to one of

:00:54.:00:57.

the Worlds greatest sportsman. I can't think who might be. In these

:00:58.:01:07.

parts, Novak is king. He even has his own restaurant, a shrine to his

:01:08.:01:11.

achievements. It's safe to say he's done OK for himself. And doing OK

:01:12.:01:16.

for themselves here are the British team, with three golds so far it's a

:01:17.:01:20.

case of game... Nothing stopping him! Set... He's won the gold medal!

:01:21.:01:32.

And match. The Laura Muir, it is now a case of doubles as she bids for

:01:33.:01:36.

her second gold at these championships. Just like Andy Murray

:01:37.:01:39.

her compatriot, she is one super Scot. Laura Muir chasing this

:01:40.:01:45.

British record, she's done it! Who knows what Laura Muir now has ahead

:01:46.:01:50.

of her. She's wasted vulnerable waited for this moment for a few

:01:51.:01:55.

years now. As Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the gold medal

:01:56.:02:00.

for Great Britain. What a moment of Scotland's Laura Muir. Back for the

:02:01.:02:08.

3,000-metre final. We are here once again in Belgrade for the third and

:02:09.:02:11.

final day of these championships. It feels like as we sit on the

:02:12.:02:16.

precipice of spring, we are also sitting on the edge of a burst of

:02:17.:02:19.

new talent in athletics. We've seen plenty of it in the last couple of

:02:20.:02:23.

days. It's been exciting to see some of the new faces coming up with the

:02:24.:02:29.

goods. A very small apology for coming on late, we had a local power

:02:30.:02:35.

cut, nothing we could do anything about. You'll be pleased to know

:02:36.:02:38.

we've missed nothing on the track or fields. First of all is important to

:02:39.:02:46.

say hello to my guests, Paula Radcliffe, Colin Jackson and Denise

:02:47.:02:51.

Lewis. You'll be looking ahead to a fantastic afternoon but it's time to

:02:52.:02:55.

look back as well. We should start with Laura Muir. I was so pleased to

:02:56.:02:59.

see when I was looking online that she is rightfully getting a lot of

:03:00.:03:03.

the headlines back home and her achievements are being put into

:03:04.:03:07.

context. And what she can do today and how historically important that

:03:08.:03:12.

is. It's historically important but it's also hugely important for Laura

:03:13.:03:15.

herself. She set herself this target. It's a big stepping stone in

:03:16.:03:20.

her target towards possibly doing the double in the summer in London.

:03:21.:03:26.

It's tough, we worked out she will have run 45 laps of this track by

:03:27.:03:31.

the time she finishes today. It's not the toughest opposition but it

:03:32.:03:35.

is hard and she's made it harder for herself by the way she ran

:03:36.:03:40.

yesterday, not that I'm criticising. She really needed this medal and she

:03:41.:03:43.

gave herself her very best shot at doing it. She absolutely only

:03:44.:03:51.

focused on the 1500 metres yesterday. She will have had to

:03:52.:03:54.

recover as much as possible to raise the 3000 metres today. One of the

:03:55.:03:59.

things social media loved yesterday, not just the way she is becoming the

:04:00.:04:04.

nation 's sweetheart, was the insistence that she should have her

:04:05.:04:08.

lap of honour. They were running behind schedule so one of the

:04:09.:04:12.

officials decided to deny Laura that moment. Here she is. Laura looked a

:04:13.:04:19.

bit exasperated at first. She said, if it comes down to it, I can out

:04:20.:04:24.

run you! She went off looking for her flag and we were cheering her

:04:25.:04:31.

on. We were saying, go round Laura, go round! How could you deny?

:04:32.:04:36.

Obviously the 400 metres were about to go off but to rob an athlete of

:04:37.:04:40.

this moment, and the significance of her first gold medal, just a magic

:04:41.:04:44.

moment, that was fantastic for her. She was tweeting pictures of herself

:04:45.:04:49.

last night in the ice bath. There wasn't much I! She was still holding

:04:50.:04:58.

bellowed the lion in the bath. The recovery was so important for today,

:04:59.:05:07.

getting in the ice. She'll have conserved that energy. We mentioned

:05:08.:05:13.

how tough it is as a double to do. The toughest part of it is mentally.

:05:14.:05:18.

It's going through all the preparation of it all. And to

:05:19.:05:22.

deliver the performance you know you are capable of delivering. That's

:05:23.:05:25.

why she went for the record yesterday because she knew she was

:05:26.:05:30.

capable of it. I think she knew that was her absolute best chance. None

:05:31.:05:33.

of those other girls were capable of doing that. She was going with her

:05:34.:05:38.

strongest suit by running hard. I think the hardest time mentally was

:05:39.:05:43.

the first day. To get through those heats in the morning and afternoon,

:05:44.:05:47.

and try and think about keeping enough energy in the bank for the

:05:48.:05:50.

finals, that's the most important thing. Coming back from yesterday to

:05:51.:05:55.

today, she's done that in training so many times where she's hammered a

:05:56.:05:59.

hard session, come back the next day and done another one. Don't

:06:00.:06:03.

underestimate the biggest she's got from that medal as well. -- the

:06:04.:06:10.

beast. That's a huge boost of energy that the other girls are all

:06:11.:06:15.

combating. It's red to do a double. The last person to do it for Great

:06:16.:06:22.

Britain was Colin Jackson -- it's rare to do the double. It was fun to

:06:23.:06:33.

take on the challenge. I think the same thing that Laura is doing, you

:06:34.:06:37.

take on that challenge. For me is the same thing. I was a world leader

:06:38.:06:42.

in the 60 hurdles, I thought, give it a go in the 60 flats. I'm capable

:06:43.:06:48.

of doing well. I thought, give it a go and I ended up running two

:06:49.:06:52.

championship records and winning a gold medal. He just wanted to upset

:06:53.:06:58.

the sprinters because he knew he could and your speed was vote on it

:06:59.:07:05.

that year. -- was so on it that year. Laura is only ten seconds off

:07:06.:07:15.

a world record. Don't expect that... There's enough going on in her life

:07:16.:07:20.

at the moment! And Richard Kilty yesterday delivered when it counted.

:07:21.:07:25.

He is the reigning European indoor champion and he had to come through

:07:26.:07:29.

the heat is knowing there had been problems with false starts and he's

:07:30.:07:33.

had. Himself this year but he kept his composure. He was so focused

:07:34.:07:41.

through the whole championships. We hear a lot about opportunities and

:07:42.:07:44.

taking them but Richard seems to rise when it comes to indoors.

:07:45.:07:49.

Reigning European indoor champion, and he knew it was his title. I

:07:50.:07:58.

always believed in him. Colin was predicting a one to three. Theo

:07:59.:08:05.

Etienne came in fifth. We bumped into Andy recently at the hotel and

:08:06.:08:09.

he was saying how disappointed he was because he fought he could have

:08:10.:08:14.

done very well at these majors -- he thought. I said put it behind you,

:08:15.:08:19.

you can't change history, focus on the summer and stay healthy. We keep

:08:20.:08:24.

preaching that our athletes, stay healthy, that's the only time you

:08:25.:08:28.

can put the real working and deliver. Same thing for Richard

:08:29.:08:32.

Kilty, if he wants to go to the ten second mark he needs to stay as

:08:33.:08:36.

healthy as he can, to put the working and stress himself. You are

:08:37.:08:46.

hearing the Greek anthem at home. Gold medal for the pole vault. That

:08:47.:08:51.

brings us onto the medal table quite nicely. Poland topped the table as

:08:52.:08:56.

we go into this third and final day. Great Britain just behind them with

:08:57.:08:59.

their three gold medals, not picking up anything in the more minor medals

:09:00.:09:05.

just yet in terms of tally but obviously there are more golds to

:09:06.:09:10.

get today, 11 in total. How does that look compare to our predictions

:09:11.:09:17.

from our experts? You can see, I have to say Colin, if I put my money

:09:18.:09:21.

on somebody getting it bang on, you are the one I would say was closest.

:09:22.:09:27.

We shouldn't say we expect, Laura, but we feel Laura is the person is

:09:28.:09:29.

capable of delivering gold. She seemed to grow in confidence in

:09:30.:09:43.

each of them as well. She knows that 800 metres is wide open. Michelle

:09:44.:09:54.

should be the outstanding favourite. I think it is wide open and Shelayna

:09:55.:10:02.

is capable of grabbing a medal. Eilish McColgan in the 3000 metres

:10:03.:10:08.

is also capable of taking a medal. It's tough the 800 on the smaller

:10:09.:10:11.

track indoors and there's a lot of jostling. To navigate that is hard.

:10:12.:10:16.

What are her tactics going to be today? She's got her tactics right

:10:17.:10:22.

in each round so far. She needs to go out with the same attitude and go

:10:23.:10:27.

and run that semifinal as if it was the final. She did that, she

:10:28.:10:33.

controlled it and judged her effort to perfection. She looked really,

:10:34.:10:36.

really strong. Yes the others are going to up their game but you sense

:10:37.:10:42.

Shelayna has got more to come as well. She's building very well.

:10:43.:10:49.

She's got really good flat speed as well. She puts herself in the right

:10:50.:10:55.

position. She's my sneaky person for a medal. I don't think it's so

:10:56.:11:06.

sneaky any more! Here is what is coming up this afternoon. Fresh from

:11:07.:11:12.

the 1500 metre title, Laura Muir is the favourite to fly the 3,000-metre

:11:13.:11:20.

crown. Sprinter Asha Philip will be looking for a medal, first she's got

:11:21.:11:24.

a semifinal to overcome in a few minutes time. Lorraine Ugen and

:11:25.:11:29.

Jazmin Sawyers have strong chances in the long jump. But Serbian

:11:30.:11:37.

Spanovic is the hot favourite and she will have a vocal, local

:11:38.:11:44.

support. We'll see Richard Kilty awarded his 60-metre gold, the third

:11:45.:11:48.

time he stopped the podium at a major indoor Championships. Ashley

:11:49.:11:57.

Bryant lies fourth after day one. And Britain's women will be aiming

:11:58.:12:03.

to end in style as they take on the 4x400 m relay. So in just a few

:12:04.:12:11.

minutes time it's the women's 60 metres semifinals featuring Asha

:12:12.:12:11.

Philip. Let's get out there then, it's the

:12:12.:12:52.

fast women's show coming up. The 60 metres semifinals. Over 60 metres

:12:53.:12:58.

the men did it all in one day. But with a number of entrants in the

:12:59.:13:00.

women's 60 they had to split it. She's run 7.28 this year, not great

:13:01.:13:30.

in the first round. Ciara Neville the 17-year-old from Limerick. Two

:13:31.:13:42.

Irish athletes in the semifinals. Olesya Povh won this title in Paris

:13:43.:13:50.

six years ago. A powerful looking figure.

:13:51.:14:04.

And will need something better than that. Two automatic places here.

:14:05.:14:24.

A very strong German contingent. This is Burghardt. Burghardt looked

:14:25.:14:33.

strong in qualifying. Del Ponte, the 20-year-old, who

:14:34.:14:46.

managed to run a personal best in first round to get a place in this

:14:47.:14:48.

semifinal. 7. 35. Tsimanouskaya has managed 7.21 this

:14:49.:15:04.

season. Struggling in the first round. 7.42. Came through fourth

:15:05.:15:15.

this her heat. Neville, 17-year-olds old. Already

:15:16.:15:23.

done to 7. 30 this season. That's about equal of the Irish record when

:15:24.:15:32.

running the Irish junior title. Two fastest lowers over this -- losers

:15:33.:15:35.

over these semi-finals. Lying low. Gnafoua. So too

:15:36.:16:00.

Burghardt. No doubt about the first, Del Ponte

:16:01.:16:12.

was a long way clear after about 20 metres. She has an explosive start.

:16:13.:16:17.

So powerful and dominated that race. You can see the power that she

:16:18.:16:27.

possesses. When she flies out of the blocks it is clearer to see. That is

:16:28.:16:38.

a statement as well. A very impressive performance.

:16:39.:16:42.

7.16. Upped her performance from

:16:43.:16:50.

yesterday. Good, explosive demonstration of how a 60 metres

:16:51.:16:53.

really should be run. Let's look. Bang out the blocks.

:16:54.:17:02.

Good reaction. Drives hard. The first ten metres to get the

:17:03.:17:05.

speed and then from there on in you have to think about extending your

:17:06.:17:10.

stride. What she works on is more frequency, because she's powerful

:17:11.:17:14.

and explosive, she's able to keep that frequency going more than most.

:17:15.:17:20.

It is not an easy looking style. It is all about the power. You are spot

:17:21.:17:28.

on there. That's why someone like Elaine Thompson is different. She

:17:29.:17:32.

can close this done. She's powerful and has got that good range of

:17:33.:17:38.

movement in the stride. Ponte will be very dangerous in that

:17:39.:17:42.

final, though. 7.16. That is quick.

:17:43.:18:16.

Asha Philip coming up. The athletes are in their usual position, where

:18:17.:18:21.

they get introduced to the crowd here. And if you look on paper, that

:18:22.:18:26.

first semifinal had the slower runners, so is that a good thing for

:18:27.:18:31.

Asha to be amongst people with the quicker times? I think so. She's a

:18:32.:18:37.

person that likes to get out, but you know, there the quality in the

:18:38.:18:48.

next semifinal. She will have looked at this draw and say, do you know

:18:49.:18:51.

what, I can nail this. She'll have to raise her game. She ran 7.21 in

:18:52.:18:57.

the first round. She's capable of running in the 7. 7.10s. We like to

:18:58.:19:01.

see that from her today. She's one person who is capable of getting

:19:02.:19:04.

into that final and doing really well.

:19:05.:19:10.

Well t light show is getting ready for this semifinal. But we're going

:19:11.:19:19.

to go down into the heptathlon. It is day two, and there is Ramsay and

:19:20.:19:24.

Bryant t team captain competing in this. Let's remind you of what

:19:25.:19:26.

happened on day one. The Serbian looked very slow. Bryant

:19:27.:19:42.

trying to get back. All about the time 7.05. A very quick strinter.

:19:43.:19:50.

Dudas, a very quick sprinter. Anything close to that would be a

:19:51.:19:55.

very good start for Ashley Bryant. Better on the board. That's a big

:19:56.:20:14.

jump. Well Ashley Bryant, a glance up. The boards are up in the sky,

:20:15.:20:21.

quite unusually here. It looks better on the board, doesn't it? A

:20:22.:20:25.

slight rotation. Still got a little bit of space there, but an

:20:26.:20:28.

improvement, just looking down there, he's got to not do that. Hard

:20:29.:20:31.

when you are trying to make that adjustment. It does affect your head

:20:32.:20:35.

position, that knock-on effect. And then it was on to the shot put

:20:36.:20:44.

and this is Ashley Bryant's third throw, looking to pick up a big

:20:45.:20:49.

clutch of points here. It reached 14. 57. He was fairly pleased with

:20:50.:20:54.

that. And then it was on to the high jump.

:20:55.:21:03.

He cleared 1.98 at and then unfortunately had to retire at 2.1

:21:04.:21:07.

metres, after two failures. This is how it looked after four events.

:21:08.:21:10.

He's in fourth place. You can see on the second page Liam

:21:11.:21:23.

Ramsay not having the best of times. And so the first event today was the

:21:24.:21:28.

60 metres hurdle. Out to Andrew Cotter to find out how that went.

:21:29.:21:42.

Liam Ramsay goes here. Done well Ramsay. Up to the first barrier.

:21:43.:21:55.

Pesic, a quick run. A big personal best.

:21:56.:22:00.

That is what the multi-eventers are looking for.

:22:01.:22:05.

And he's a great technician, Andrew. He may look sluggish out of the

:22:06.:22:10.

blocks. But he's a big guy. He's had so good fluency once he gets going.

:22:11.:22:14.

In the middle of the field there. Look how easy and smooth he is

:22:15.:22:19.

coming through. And Ramsay, he put himself into the equation early on.

:22:20.:22:22.

Faded at the end. Good performance from him.

:22:23.:22:42.

Mayer, in lane seven, the leader. Well, a good start. Look out for

:22:43.:22:57.

euro. -- for Urena. That equals a championship best time.

:22:58.:23:01.

That is a very, very impressive time.

:23:02.:23:06.

All first three athletes there got out very well. Setting personal

:23:07.:23:12.

bests. Hard, good aggressive high hurdling. Remember these guys are

:23:13.:23:16.

not specialists in this event. They make it look very easy this morning.

:23:17.:23:22.

Good, competitive racing and they have rewarded with fast times.

:23:23.:23:37.

This is how things stand after five events before the pole vault. Kevin

:23:38.:23:47.

Mayer a long way clear. Urena, good hurdles.

:23:48.:23:55.

Ashley Bryant hanging on in fourth. It has been hard going for Liam

:23:56.:23:59.

Ramsay, down in 14th place at the moment and the pot vault to come

:24:00.:24:00.

next. So the athletes move over to the

:24:01.:24:19.

pole vault. And I will yap ramsy, first up on

:24:20.:24:25.

the runway. The bar 4. 20, first attempt.

:24:26.:24:35.

Disappointed yesterday in the long jump. That stays with him, the

:24:36.:24:45.

accumulation of points. Not the best pole vaulter and the Brits, it has

:24:46.:24:50.

to be said, will start to haemorrhage points in this event

:24:51.:24:57.

because neither Ramsay or Bryant are proficient in heptathlon terms, as

:24:58.:24:59.

we turn attention to Ashley Bryant. Second attempt clearances at the two

:25:00.:25:14.

previous heights. Does it again. Well, he has a life-time best of

:25:15.:25:20.

4.60. He'll need all of that. He was in second place after three events.

:25:21.:25:25.

Fourth place after four events and as I say, just haemorrhaging

:25:26.:25:30.

slightly, 1.98 in that high jump. Could have done with more. The main

:25:31.:25:35.

contender, including Mayer go two metres 10. So 4. 50. Will need some

:25:36.:25:39.

more. And there are the official standings

:25:40.:25:47.

after six events. A bit misleading that. Not after six

:25:48.:26:11.

events because he's not jumped yet. The pole vault takes place. You can

:26:12.:26:15.

see on the left-hand side of your screen there. That standings will be

:26:16.:26:27.

updated. Off to their right the second semifinal.

:26:28.:26:32.

Philip will need to be on her wits here. Lisa Mayer first time under 7.

:26:33.:26:37.

. 28. Haase will be one of the contenders

:26:38.:26:49.

for the medals. Swoboda. 19 years of age, still. 7. She's electric out of

:26:50.:26:58.

the blocks. Compact, quick and Asha will have to be matching here really

:26:59.:27:04.

and trying to maintain in that last 10, 15 metres. Only the top two go

:27:05.:27:08.

through. And two fastest to the final. That

:27:09.:27:15.

final a little later on. Before the relays.

:27:16.:27:23.

The form book will tell us it is the three middle lanes, three, five and

:27:24.:27:31.

six. Two of those three, really. Asha will be disappointed if

:27:32.:27:45.

If she's not in the top two, 7.23 was the third-placed athlete in the

:27:46.:28:06.

third semifinal. So, fastest loser spots available.

:28:07.:28:08.

She doesn't want that, though. Well, rocking was Mayer, Colin has

:28:09.:28:18.

pointed to the same athlete as well. She was not set for me in her

:28:19.:28:22.

blocks. She was moving before the gun went. You have to be stationary.

:28:23.:28:27.

That is the most important thing. It is the rule. You cannot go with a

:28:28.:28:32.

roar to the gun. It will be interesting to see how they do this.

:28:33.:28:39.

Rather confusingly it has come up as Asha Philip on our screen. She's on

:28:40.:28:44.

our screen. This may not be good for Asha Philip. Now, we need to watch

:28:45.:28:50.

here. This could well be Asha Philip. She looks a little nervous

:28:51.:28:52.

and worried, doesn't she? She does. The starter may well have seen

:28:53.:29:13.

something. And indeed, Asha may have got away with one here. A sigh of

:29:14.:29:28.

relief but don't say anything... Will we have the chance to have

:29:29.:29:35.

another quick look at that? She is closest to the camera, does she just

:29:36.:29:45.

pushed back? Here we are again. Now we've got a green card. I'm

:29:46.:29:51.

apologising on behalf of the athletes because we are back to

:29:52.:29:58.

Friday now. Asha Philip came up as the reading... She looked as though

:29:59.:30:02.

she moved fractionally before everyone else. Bazolo didn't move.

:30:03.:30:08.

She was very steady. Time to refocus. This is the difficult bit,

:30:09.:30:12.

this is where the discipline comes in. We had also some technical

:30:13.:30:17.

problems on Friday with the starter equipment. Once the gun goes there's

:30:18.:30:25.

a reaction... They reset everything, it much better yesterday. I hope the

:30:26.:30:34.

gremlins haven't crept in today. Asha Philip is still there.

:30:35.:30:50.

This is much better from Asha Philip! 7.19, that is much better.

:30:51.:31:01.

Asha doesn't always do that. Sometimes the last ten minutes isn't

:31:02.:31:04.

the best bit of a race but that was really get. Mayer rocks into her

:31:05.:31:10.

start, she gets away with it. Asha Philip's time is 7.20. Not quite as

:31:11.:31:23.

quick as we saw from Povh. She knew this was going to be a tough race.

:31:24.:31:32.

She looked very relaxed indeed. Still watch Mayer the German. I'm

:31:33.:31:36.

pretty sure she's got a bit left in the tank. It's the way Asha dealt

:31:37.:31:47.

with it. It's got to fill her with a lot of confidence. These three

:31:48.:31:53.

women, wow. This is setup to be a good competitive final and I think

:31:54.:31:58.

the best German is to come in the next heat. The thing about

:31:59.:32:10.

Swoboda... She doesn't really make up the time again. She is a bit of

:32:11.:32:16.

what should want to be. We don't really care about that. I don't

:32:17.:32:19.

think she's going to make the final with that... 7.20 the winning time

:32:20.:32:31.

for Asha Philip. Swoboda who is one to watch, at the moment not the

:32:32.:32:37.

fastest losers bank at this Asha got herself at the blocks. You don't

:32:38.:32:41.

want to be relying on those times. Those margins are so small and in

:32:42.:32:46.

the 60 there is no room for mistakes. She is defined by her

:32:47.:32:52.

starts. I think she is a starter but she sometimes, I don't know whether

:32:53.:32:57.

she loses concentration in those last ten metres, she knows she has

:32:58.:33:00.

to keep working through that. She tends to get better with the rounds

:33:01.:33:04.

so fingers crossed. From what you saw there, if she can carry that

:33:05.:33:11.

through to the final, fingers crossed for the medal? Everything

:33:12.:33:15.

has to be right. She put pressure on Swoboda very early. Those sleek and

:33:16.:33:23.

I'm really quickly. Already Swoboda is under pressure for those first

:33:24.:33:29.

ten metres. She is working so hard. This is what she's going to need to

:33:30.:33:33.

do in these last few metres. She has to stay relaxed. There will be

:33:34.:33:44.

Mayer... This is what Asha does so well. She drives hard. It's that

:33:45.:33:50.

relaxation, getting those feet down early is what she's going to need to

:33:51.:33:55.

take one of those medals. Let's see what the opposition looks like from

:33:56.:33:59.

the third semifinal. It always feels odd sayings third semifinal.

:34:00.:34:06.

COMMENTATOR: It does. It doesn't make sense...

:34:07.:34:22.

The three main contenders in the semifinal. Rebekka Haase was very

:34:23.:34:42.

good yesterday. Dina Asher-Smith recovering from a foot injury.

:34:43.:34:51.

Kambundji certainly a contender here. The European junior champion

:34:52.:35:15.

four years ago, Akakpo. The finished champion will need to find a bit

:35:16.:35:22.

more to go through here. Two go through automatically anti-fastest

:35:23.:35:22.

losers over the three heats. That was a very interesting race the

:35:23.:35:43.

last race. Asha Philip ran very strongly eventually. She might have

:35:44.:35:49.

got away with it in that first running. She did register below a

:35:50.:35:58.

tenth of a second. The starts have been fascinating over the three days

:35:59.:36:03.

of competition. Kambundji is such a quick starter.

:36:04.:36:32.

A good start again by Kambundji. It is Kambundji and Haase, third place

:36:33.:36:45.

taken by Akakpo. The two automatic qualifiers were clear and distinct,

:36:46.:36:51.

Kambundji and Haase. Kambundji does what she does so well, stars

:36:52.:36:55.

beautifully. A bit like Asha Philip, this time she held on pretty well

:36:56.:36:59.

and finished the race strongly with a good time as well. It's going to

:37:00.:37:07.

be a very tight final indeed. Good competitive racing. Both Haase and

:37:08.:37:14.

Kambundji. Out of the blocks very well. They virtually ran stride for

:37:15.:37:21.

stride the whole way. She kept her form all the way through. Kambundji

:37:22.:37:27.

look very relaxed to me. Very much in control over the whole of the

:37:28.:37:34.

60-metre race. Let's have a watch of this now head on. Both of these

:37:35.:37:38.

applets seem to be running, going through their emotions but they are

:37:39.:37:41.

going through them very well indeed and are rewarded with with a 7.19.

:37:42.:37:59.

Akakpo has run 7.16 this season. She was under pressure very quickly. She

:38:00.:38:03.

didn't get out of the box as smoothly as she could have.

:38:04.:38:07.

Kambundji the winner and looking very smooth. Confirmation of that

:38:08.:38:15.

result. Those two Kambundji and Haase a long way clear of the rest.

:38:16.:38:20.

Akakpo not going through with that one. Here are the qualifiers for the

:38:21.:38:34.

final, at ten past five in the UK. Asha Philip running strongly in

:38:35.:38:44.

there, running well. STUDIO: Laura Muir's 3000 metres coming up in a

:38:45.:38:48.

few minutes time. Before we build up to that we'd like to pay tribute to

:38:49.:38:54.

an athlete who was one of the finest middle-distance runners of his

:38:55.:38:58.

generation, Derek Ibbotson who died ten years ago at 84 years old. He

:38:59.:39:08.

was a very popular athletes. Derek Ibbotson, affectionately known as

:39:09.:39:15.

Ibbo was given another nickname, the four-minute miler. Made of Yorkshire

:39:16.:39:19.

grit and grime he won an Olympic bronze medal over 5000 metres at the

:39:20.:39:24.

1956 Melbourne games. He sprung to prominence that year by winning the

:39:25.:39:29.

Helmsley Carmyle in under four minutes. The following year at White

:39:30.:39:35.

City he break the records for a mile with a time of three minutes 57.2

:39:36.:39:42.

seconds following in the steps of Roger Bannister and John Landy. He

:39:43.:39:46.

also helped the curious distinction of becoming the first man to run

:39:47.:39:51.

exactly four minutes in a mile in 1958. Literally the world's first

:39:52.:39:56.

four-minute miler. If anyone learned his legend, he did. Ibbotson passed

:39:57.:40:01.

away in a nursing home in Yorkshire aged 84. STUDIO: Lets join Steve

:40:02.:40:10.

Cram and Paula Radcliffe in the commentary box just for a word on

:40:11.:40:16.

Derek Ibbotson. The younger viewers who may not have heard too much

:40:17.:40:19.

about his career, how influential was he. He was a big part of my

:40:20.:40:25.

early life, actually. He's from Yorkshire. My coach went on and on

:40:26.:40:29.

about him. He identified with him more than Roger Bannister. When I

:40:30.:40:34.

made the Commonwealth Games team when I was 17, there was a knock on

:40:35.:40:38.

my door three days after I'd made the team, I opened my front door and

:40:39.:40:42.

Derek Ibbotson was standing on the doorstep. I couldn't believe it. He

:40:43.:40:47.

was representing a shoe company and was trying to get me to sign up. I

:40:48.:40:51.

brought in the house, dulled my coach and said, you would believe is

:40:52.:40:56.

in my front room! He came racing round to meet him. He was a real

:40:57.:41:01.

hero and an incredibly popular guy. Always funny. He was well known

:41:02.:41:06.

because he ran the big races but he also run small meets all around the

:41:07.:41:13.

UK he loved racing, he absolutely loved it. Sadly missed. I would echo

:41:14.:41:21.

that, a warm, genuine guy who clearly and obviously loved

:41:22.:41:24.

everything about running. That was the important thing, he would always

:41:25.:41:30.

be at small races and just encouraging youngsters coming

:41:31.:41:34.

through and genuinely happy. Would have been so happy to see the

:41:35.:41:37.

performance Laura Muir achieved yesterday. I think he would have

:41:38.:41:43.

loved her last few laps yesterday and love to see how making history

:41:44.:41:49.

today if she does go on and do that. Moving away from direct and into

:41:50.:41:54.

Laura specifically, what she's on the edge of here, we mentioned in

:41:55.:41:58.

the build-up to the programme, it's difficult to do a double at these

:41:59.:42:02.

championships. They are very short, to get through the heats you've got

:42:03.:42:05.

to do a lot of running around that track. You do and you've got to be

:42:06.:42:10.

very well prepared which is what Laura is, and confident. Yesterday

:42:11.:42:16.

she ran with a lot of confidence around her own ability. She went to

:42:17.:42:29.

have a game, I think she could have waited she thought why risk that,

:42:30.:42:32.

I'm better than everybody else and she was able to do that. Today she's

:42:33.:42:38.

going to be tired. Even someone as good as Laura Muir will carry a bit

:42:39.:42:42.

of that into today. It's a big task for her to come back in a distance

:42:43.:42:52.

event. The Turkish athletes is going to try and hurt her. Steph Twell and

:42:53.:43:00.

Eilish McColgan are both in this. They like a hard race, they'll want

:43:01.:43:06.

the pay is taken out. Let's see if either of those can follow Laura and

:43:07.:43:11.

get close to the rostrum from their point of view, let's hope Laura can

:43:12.:43:12.

deliver again. The only other danger is Laura's

:43:13.:43:33.

fatigue. And possibly Eilish McColgan. When she really gets it

:43:34.:43:38.

right, and we'll see how much that illness took out of her, but she is

:43:39.:43:42.

capable of walking away with a silver medal if not a bronze. Steph

:43:43.:43:49.

came in on Thursday evening and said she's enjoying the mix in her

:43:50.:43:54.

athletics life now. Local cameraman struggling who is

:43:55.:44:11.

favourite for the race. Laur will go back to studying to become a vet of

:44:12.:44:18.

course. That is pretty well known. In fact after... Actually we will

:44:19.:44:26.

talk about that in due course. Eilish is in great shape. Great

:44:27.:44:30.

first season at the 5,000 metres. The Olympic final and now following

:44:31.:44:32.

that up with a strong winter so far. There's the Laura Muir fan club.

:44:33.:44:55.

They might have picked more flattering picture of her for the

:44:56.:45:00.

mask. 3,000 metre final. 15 laps of the track. And we expect a little

:45:01.:45:04.

bit of a test here for Laura in terms of, well you would expect the

:45:05.:45:08.

athletes to think, OK she must be a little bit tired. Let's test here a

:45:09.:45:15.

little bit. I have looked out for her coach, we spotted him yesterday.

:45:16.:45:20.

I think he would have given clear instructions to Laura. They know

:45:21.:45:24.

what to expect. They know what the expect. I think Andy's inner vows

:45:25.:45:31.

today. He's starting to realise the enorty of the challenge. He knows

:45:32.:45:36.

she's run a lot and hard. She's run how she wanted to run the race

:45:37.:45:41.

yesterday. He's worried somebody might take this out. 9,000 metres in

:45:42.:45:46.

total, running over the three days. If the girls want to take it, they

:45:47.:45:51.

can test and see how tired her legs are. The fear factor she holds over

:45:52.:45:58.

them, although it's in its infancy it is approaching that level that Mo

:45:59.:46:04.

holds over the guys at 5,000, 10,000 metres.

:46:05.:46:08.

Can's only chance is to take this out hard and hope that Laura Muir's

:46:09.:46:15.

legs are tired. She's not doing it. She's sitting on her shoulder. It's

:46:16.:46:29.

coming down to Reh now to get this race moving. Triple jump under way.

:46:30.:46:37.

Misans of Latvia n the first round over 17 metres.

:46:38.:46:46.

The 27-year-old, a life-time best of 18.21.

:46:47.:46:51.

And he looks like he's laid down a marker. No-one yet beyond 17 metres.

:46:52.:47:00.

It's 17. 02 for the Latvian. That is a lifetime best. A great start for

:47:01.:47:02.

him. Well, that was a few moments ago.

:47:03.:47:14.

We're in the second round now. And it is heb heb of Germany. 17.52. A

:47:15.:47:23.

foul in the first round. Well that was a big jump. Certainly in

:47:24.:47:28.

contention but that is another foul. The German under pressure. A big

:47:29.:47:31.

favourite. One more chance to make the cut.

:47:32.:47:36.

So, then from one of the youngest to the oldest. This man Donato, one of

:47:37.:47:41.

the oldest athletes here, at 40 years of age. Olympic

:47:42.:47:48.

bronze-medallist in 2012. Oh, that's a decent effort.

:47:49.:47:56.

So, Donato, 1713. That goes into the lead. We're at the long jump. This

:47:57.:48:03.

race has hotted up. 34 second lap injection from Can. She was waiting

:48:04.:48:08.

and waiting. Now only Laura Muir trying to give chase. I'm not sure

:48:09.:48:22.

Can is good enough. Giving this a go. She's not good enough to run

:48:23.:48:27.

away. She's not quick enough. She'll keep this up for a few laps.

:48:28.:48:33.

You know, what are you going to do with someone who has run 8. 26, even

:48:34.:48:40.

though she is a little tired. That is her only hope that Laura is a

:48:41.:48:46.

little tired. Can has no way of beating Laura when she's fresh. This

:48:47.:48:52.

is her only threat to bet her. She could sit back and save a bit. She

:48:53.:48:57.

is trying to lay it all on the line. That 8.52 is a personal best. She

:48:58.:49:01.

ran it in the heat. She has more to come. Behind her it is now settled

:49:02.:49:07.

into the group of athletes who have thought, right, OK, we will race

:49:08.:49:10.

here for the bronze and let these two go. These are the two that the

:49:11.:49:16.

first two medals will go to and let them fight it out in front. Steph

:49:17.:49:20.

Twell was the best person in the field at seeing what Can was doing

:49:21.:49:24.

as she moved on and tack away the pace at the field. She decided to

:49:25.:49:29.

stay back in that pack and to track Koster.

:49:30.:49:45.

The front two settled again. They threw in another quick laps of 33.3.

:49:46.:49:56.

33 flat so, that is a quick 400 metres for 3,000-metre running. They

:49:57.:50:01.

have kind of settled again thapd gap has remained the same. Koster

:50:02.:50:05.

leading that chase for, I was going to say silver and bronze, because

:50:06.:50:10.

when Laura Muir goes past Can, it will be interesting to see whether

:50:11.:50:15.

the charge comes from behind. In the front, Can leading. Laura Muir, the

:50:16.:50:19.

gold-medallist in the 1500 metres. Full of confidence. Full of running.

:50:20.:50:25.

Full of ability and that is weighing heavily on the shoulders of the

:50:26.:50:28.

young Turkish athlete. Former Kenyan.

:50:29.:50:33.

And only two years ago, in almost exactly two years ago, given

:50:34.:50:37.

clearance to run for Turkey, March 2015. Here is the battle behind

:50:38.:50:41.

them. Koster, not really now closing. If anything they are going

:50:42.:50:45.

away again a little bit. That group. It will be better for Steph Twell in

:50:46.:50:55.

particular and for Alish. At the front they are not running super

:50:56.:50:59.

fast. They went through 5. 50 to 2,000. So

:51:00.:51:10.

kind of a 250. 830 pace, which is faster than Can has run so far.

:51:11.:51:14.

She's in territory she's not been before. She's looking to complete a

:51:15.:51:19.

hat-trick on all surfaces. She has European titles on the cross-country

:51:20.:51:25.

and the outdoor track. She's up against a formidable opponent and

:51:26.:51:30.

somebody who we cannot ever say is unbeaten, but -- unbeatable, but is

:51:31.:51:34.

bordering on the unbeatable form now. Laura Muir can take this when

:51:35.:51:40.

she wants to, I think. She will not be bothered aen clock today. Now

:51:41.:51:44.

Koster has picked it newspaper that chasing group. They are in the past

:51:45.:51:48.

part of the race where they need to make a move. Twell is leading that

:51:49.:51:53.

group. So strung out behind and that change of pace not really helping

:51:54.:51:58.

those two British athletes. We come around with 600 metres to go.

:51:59.:52:04.

Can, where she's been since about the second or third lap has another

:52:05.:52:08.

look behind. I don't know what she was expecting, but there's only one

:52:09.:52:12.

thing she's going to see and that's a very confident Laura Muir tucked

:52:13.:52:16.

in behind. Koster is closing on these two, which means that the

:52:17.:52:20.

waiting Can might make one big effort. They are coming around with

:52:21.:52:23.

two to go. I don't think Can has another big effort to make. I think

:52:24.:52:27.

the effort will come from Laura Muir when she thinks the time is right.

:52:28.:52:32.

Maybe she is clocking that Koster is closing that gap to her, much

:52:33.:52:38.

quicker than Steph Twell is able to close the gap back to Koster.

:52:39.:52:43.

McColgan starting to make inroad; they cannot make it up on marine. 3

:52:44.:52:49.

300 metres left for Laura Muir. She's not hanging around now. This

:52:50.:52:54.

is a race against the clock. Look how fast she's going. Still has a

:52:55.:53:00.

lap to go. I can tell you the championshipship record 8. 39. 49.

:53:01.:53:04.

That is definitely within reach here. She did 33 last lap T pace

:53:05.:53:11.

she's going, goodness me! Eilish McColgan has moved into fourth lace.

:53:12.:53:16.

Eilish McColgan is chasing for bronze, I can tell you. Here's Laura

:53:17.:53:21.

Muir. Less than 100 metres to go. She's already got one gold medal.

:53:22.:53:26.

She's storming away to an historic double at the European indoor

:53:27.:53:30.

championships. She's got two gold medals. She's the champion again and

:53:31.:53:34.

it is another record. The championship record has gone and

:53:35.:53:38.

Eilish McColgan is coming in for the Bronze Medal.

:53:39.:53:48.

Scotland one, Scotland three and I think Scotland five, with Steph

:53:49.:53:56.

Twell. All of the headlines and all of the mud s will belong -- and all

:53:57.:54:03.

of the plu s will belong to this young -- plaudit surks will belong

:54:04.:54:09.

to this young woman. All she then needs to do is show us what she's

:54:10.:54:16.

capable of and that last 300 metres flew around. 60.5 for the last 400

:54:17.:54:24.

metres. That is closing place for 1500. It is the sort of thing we see

:54:25.:54:29.

the Ethiopians do. This is Laura Muir. This is Laura Muir of Great

:54:30.:54:36.

Britain, running in a way in which we have rarely seen and running to a

:54:37.:54:42.

double title, double gold medal. Brilliant! She didn't even kick for

:54:43.:54:48.

that last 400 metres. She didn't go until about 350. It just shows the

:54:49.:54:53.

shape she's in and the confidence that this championship has given her

:54:54.:54:58.

on top of the season so far. All of the records she set. She knew she

:54:59.:55:02.

could time trial. To come in and win the championships and win them by

:55:03.:55:05.

playing to her strengths. Of course she's tired. She will be really

:55:06.:55:09.

tired now. This will take her a little bit to recover from, but it

:55:10.:55:14.

will also give her a huge boost training-wise. Psychologically as

:55:15.:55:17.

well moving into the race this season. As it will Eilish McColgan

:55:18.:55:21.

further back. I am going to say here if Eilish had committed earlier in

:55:22.:55:26.

that race, I think she could have even got the silver medal from that

:55:27.:55:29.

race there today. She didn't commit early enough for me. She's still

:55:30.:55:33.

learning the distance. She 's still learning about the events and she's

:55:34.:55:37.

saving too much for the last laps. You have to do it in steple chase,

:55:38.:55:43.

but not the flat races. Two championship records. Two, not

:55:44.:55:49.

personal bests, because she ran so fast, but exceptional performances

:55:50.:55:52.

and the medals which mean so much to her. I had a little check

:55:53.:56:07.

The gritted teeth, that is what people like about Laura. Wind her up

:56:08.:56:15.

and away she goes! She's suited to indoor and brilliant outdoors.

:56:16.:56:21.

4. 12 for the Second XV 00 metres. Not many were running more than 4.

:56:22.:56:28.

12 for the race. Great to watch and what a

:56:29.:56:34.

performance. What an achievement. Two gold medals, with heats, the

:56:35.:56:39.

last time it was done, there was no heats in the 3,000 metres. Run 45

:56:40.:56:45.

laps of this track. The last one might have been her fastest. Two

:56:46.:56:51.

gold medals for Laura Muir. Who knows, I said, I think when we were

:56:52.:56:54.

in Birmingham, who knows what the summer can bring. She'll attempt the

:56:55.:57:01.

two, bonus and 5,000. If she says in this shape, keeps going, she's got

:57:02.:57:04.

every chance. So the stats. A new championship

:57:05.:57:18.

record. Not a personal best, of course.

:57:19.:57:25.

Can, a new national record for her. Eilish McColgan waited and waited

:57:26.:57:32.

and rewarded with a bronze. And Steph Twell, in fifth. There are our

:57:33.:57:38.

two British and Scottish medallists. They are with Phil.

:57:39.:57:42.

Well, the pride of Scotland. Two medals to take home and a double for

:57:43.:57:48.

you Laura. An achievement. Another championship record as well. Can you

:57:49.:57:53.

put it into words for us? I don't know if I can. I tried to hang in

:57:54.:57:58.

there and I was feeling a bit tired. I am glad I came away and did that

:57:59.:58:02.

one today. What was the plan at the outset? Did it go according to plan?

:58:03.:58:07.

I thought it was in the interests to take it out, that went well. I

:58:08.:58:13.

tagged on to her and used speed at the end and crossed that line. And

:58:14.:58:18.

behind Laura, not quite according to plan from what you were telling me,

:58:19.:58:22.

but you fought so hard. You were determined to take that medal? I

:58:23.:58:26.

think I have a way of making things really difficult for myself. I don't

:58:27.:58:30.

know if it is experience. Obviously I come from steeplechase and it is

:58:31.:58:33.

different. Everyone has their own speeds because you try and clear the

:58:34.:58:37.

barriers. In the indoors there's no space. I don't have a clue what

:58:38.:58:41.

happened there today. I saw the third place... It is difficult when

:58:42.:58:45.

you know there is someone like Laura and she's so much better than the

:58:46.:58:49.

rest of us. I knew it would be quick from the start, just to try and hang

:58:50.:58:52.

on as much as I could. I know I am really strong at the moment. I knew

:58:53.:58:57.

my strength would come in. My mum and dad, boyfriend will be going

:58:58.:59:03.

crazy. So, yeah... I am happy it is a medal. I came here. I had the

:59:04.:59:09.

bronze in my mind the whole time. I new gold was gone. Silver, I was not

:59:10.:59:14.

sure how the Turkish girl would do. She's a great runner herself. I

:59:15.:59:19.

think, my ranking was third and I came third today I am over the moon.

:59:20.:59:24.

It is my first medal. I am chuffed. I don't think your mum ever got an

:59:25.:59:29.

indoor medal. She will be proud of you for that. She will ring up the

:59:30.:59:32.

BBC and say, I did! Laura, you are achieving record upon

:59:33.:59:43.

record, building towards London and the World Championships. You have an

:59:44.:59:47.

aura around you almost like Mo Farah. Do you sense that yourself? I

:59:48.:59:53.

don't know, I just run as best as I can. It was great to see Eilish

:59:54.:00:02.

cross the line. The depth we've got just now is brilliant. A big thank

:00:03.:00:09.

you to everyone back at home. What's making you the darling of people

:00:10.:00:13.

back at home is this modesty you are showing. You are doing incredible

:00:14.:00:18.

things but just so level-headed. I just love running. That's how I

:00:19.:00:23.

think I can run so quick because I can dedicate myself to it so easily.

:00:24.:00:30.

I love my sport. Congratulations on a fantastic double. Only Colin

:00:31.:00:34.

Jackson has 12 medals at one championship. In individual events

:00:35.:00:39.

you're the second person. It's great. Congratulations on the gold

:00:40.:00:42.

and the bronze. The pride of Scotland, well done. STUDIO:

:00:43.:00:51.

Wonderful scenes and signalling how relaxed Laura Muir is and how in

:00:52.:00:58.

breath she is. She just makes it look so easy and that is the mark of

:00:59.:01:03.

greatness, how easy you make it look and we shouldn't underestimate or

:01:04.:01:07.

take anything away from how historic that bubble is. That puts Great

:01:08.:01:09.

Britain top of the pops. We may not end up on the top but it

:01:10.:01:20.

feels pretty good right now for those girls. A word about Eilish

:01:21.:01:27.

McColgan who was predominantly a steeplechase and decided with the

:01:28.:01:30.

injuries she was getting it was too much to keep going over those

:01:31.:01:34.

hurdles, she just focused on the flat and this is the first season

:01:35.:01:39.

she's had a chance to do that. It's looking like a smart decision. Her

:01:40.:01:44.

body dictated it. She couldn't keep going. She was spending more time in

:01:45.:01:49.

50 oh than training. Having got a good winter behind her, to come out

:01:50.:01:54.

and gets her first medal, I'm so delighted for her. A couple of years

:01:55.:02:02.

ago I spoke to her and she was a bit despondent. She wasn't sure what

:02:03.:02:06.

direction she was going in. To get her first European medal is

:02:07.:02:09.

fantastic and I hope it's the start of good things to come. And for

:02:10.:02:14.

Laura Muir, to come here to Belgrade with the expectation that everybody

:02:15.:02:17.

had that those gold medals were hers for the taking, because of the time

:02:18.:02:26.

she posted. In that respect should put a marker down but you've still

:02:27.:02:29.

got to deliver, you've still got to run all those laps for three days.

:02:30.:02:36.

Eulogising about Laura but when you're an athletes, as confident as

:02:37.:02:44.

she is, so in the moment, she wasn't going to settle for just winning

:02:45.:02:49.

today. This is a new Laura we are witnessing. A couple of years ago

:02:50.:02:53.

she was in tears wondering why she was making these mistakes but look

:02:54.:02:59.

at this running. It's sensational. The strength, the power, the

:03:00.:03:03.

endurance, the confidence. Phil make the analogy with Mo Farah. It feels

:03:04.:03:09.

as he's in his season on the track that where there a vacuum, somebody

:03:10.:03:15.

feels that space. And now we have this fantastic female

:03:16.:03:20.

middle-distance runner who is coming into the promised she showed us a

:03:21.:03:26.

kid. But aura, it's not something that's just intangible, it is a real

:03:27.:03:31.

thing, that athletes get intimidated by people who keep winning and it's

:03:32.:03:35.

hard to find a way past someone who can produce a 62nd last 400 metres.

:03:36.:03:40.

It's the manner in which she's winning. She has no fear and she

:03:41.:03:52.

trusts her ability that much. The clock in training doesn't lie. She

:03:53.:03:56.

has an appetite for training like no other. You made the really good

:03:57.:03:59.

point about the fact that we talked about the Mo Farah error, Greg and

:04:00.:04:08.

Jess, Jess retiring, he would be the next person to take the mantle of

:04:09.:04:15.

the British Queen of athletics and Laura is. She's at the vanguard of

:04:16.:04:22.

some exciting young athletes. She has certainly moved seamlessly, we

:04:23.:04:29.

don't see the hard hours, the sweat and the sessions she is doing to get

:04:30.:04:34.

here. Now she is on the stage, and this year with London hosting the

:04:35.:04:38.

World Athletics Championships, what a marvellous opportunity she has.

:04:39.:04:44.

British athletics has a great ambassador in Laura. The investment

:04:45.:04:51.

in Scottish athletics is fantastic. We need more young women saying, OK,

:04:52.:04:57.

Laura can do it. She started in athletics pretty late but now she's

:04:58.:05:05.

dovetailing a great career. It's a vocation, she is passionate about

:05:06.:05:09.

animals and running and combining the two. Very successfully. It feels

:05:10.:05:15.

like a joy to witness her at the vanguard of something really

:05:16.:05:18.

special. You may have seen the lights flashing and the music and

:05:19.:05:21.

that was the introduction of the men for the hijab competition. Is that

:05:22.:05:27.

Robbie Grabarz down there? It is indeed. -- the high jump

:05:28.:05:33.

competition. He is the world indoor silver-medallist. He is a man who

:05:34.:05:40.

can pull out the big jumps on the big stage so expect something from

:05:41.:05:44.

him today. Let's go to Steve Backley for the triple jump. COMMENTATOR: No

:05:45.:05:49.

Brits unfortunately in the triple jump. This man on two fouls. He has

:05:50.:06:00.

to get a valid jump in excess of 16 70 to continue his efforts to claim

:06:01.:06:09.

the title. If it's a white flag it will get in three further jumps. It

:06:10.:06:19.

is. Max Hess showing some decent composure there. Massive and

:06:20.:06:22.

qualifications. A new German indoor record. Plenty of room to spare. He

:06:23.:06:32.

looks pretty relaxed. Certainly be a contender, the leader at the moment.

:06:33.:06:50.

Hess goes into second place. This man is the defending indoor

:06:51.:06:54.

champion, the Olympic champion from 2008. Third-round jump. That's going

:06:55.:07:02.

to be very close for the Leeds said Evora. -- very close for the lead,

:07:03.:07:16.

for Evora. Donato Is 40 years of age, the older men doing well,

:07:17.:07:21.

keeping the youngsters that Bay for now. The orange bib denoting the

:07:22.:07:30.

champion two years ago. This is to challenge for the lead ahead of

:07:31.:07:41.

Donato. 'S best, 17.20. -- the season's best 17.20. This goes

:07:42.:07:51.

clear. He is compiling a very impressive couple of days of

:07:52.:07:52.

heptathlon scoring. Maybe an outside chance of a medal

:07:53.:08:14.

for Dudas. Great support from the crowds... Could he medal? That would

:08:15.:08:25.

be really impressive. Just the 1000 metres to come. From the high

:08:26.:08:32.

excitement of the women's 3000 metres, we are talking about a

:08:33.:08:35.

silver medal. They may have a gold in the men's. This is how they line

:08:36.:08:40.

up. Not running particularly well at the

:08:41.:09:33.

moment despite being the defending champion. He didn't look that

:09:34.:09:38.

convincing in his heat, made the classic error of going out far too

:09:39.:09:42.

fast. We wonder how he's going to run today. The young Italian has

:09:43.:09:52.

looked good in cross country in recent years and was strong in

:09:53.:09:58.

qualifying as well. Disappointing for his younger brother who failed

:09:59.:10:00.

to qualify. Mechaal may be a threat, I suppose

:10:01.:10:28.

the favourite would be Aras Kaya. It depends how it's run and will get a

:10:29.:10:31.

good idea of that in the first few laps.

:10:32.:10:47.

Sometimes these 3000 metres end up in 800-metre burn-outs at the end.

:10:48.:11:13.

Generally if you see an Italian at the front it's not too quick. They

:11:14.:11:21.

are known for finishing fast. He's picked it up a tiny bit but nothing

:11:22.:11:30.

that's going to do any damage. Ingebrigtsen will be wanting to turn

:11:31.:11:33.

it into a fair insurance rates but to have enough in his legs. He is

:11:34.:11:41.

dangerous in a slower race. Other athletes tend to come into it if the

:11:42.:11:48.

pace goes slow. Ingebrigtsen is trying to keep it at a slower pace.

:11:49.:11:54.

He has that great former European champion pedigree. Inviting anybody

:11:55.:11:59.

to come past but hoping they don't, because he has that great speed

:12:00.:12:11.

right at the end. At the moment it is Kaya in sixth place. The high

:12:12.:12:15.

jump continues. Just waiting for Robbie Grabarz and

:12:16.:12:37.

Allan Smith, the Brits, to join the competition. Early heights here,

:12:38.:12:48.

2.18, a good start for the Italians. Medal chances certainly in this high

:12:49.:12:56.

jump final. Allan Smith out in lane two using all the wit he can. A

:12:57.:13:06.

slightly pursed lip licking may be to relax off into his approach. Good

:13:07.:13:15.

start. Such an important jump. The height not world beating but just to

:13:16.:13:18.

settle the nerves, get a good clearance. He's off the mark and

:13:19.:13:26.

Allan Smith is clear at the opening height of 2.18. Ten laps to go, two

:13:27.:13:32.

dozen metres remaining. It's still pretty tightly packed together

:13:33.:13:40.

because the pace isn't too quick. 2.50 through the first 1000 metres.

:13:41.:13:47.

This race is obviously going to hot up and these guys are playing a cat

:13:48.:13:52.

and mouse game. It is moving but it's not doing any damage to anybody

:13:53.:13:55.

which is why the whole field is still together and people who should

:13:56.:14:00.

be a danger in this race are still sitting a long way back.

:14:01.:14:09.

Kayas causing trouble there. . The taller figure of the two Turkish

:14:10.:14:19.

figgers there, Aras Kaya squeezing past Mechaal. It may be these two

:14:20.:14:28.

takes it on. The defending champion is not in vintage form. He sits

:14:29.:14:38.

there beside Aras Kaya. He might move his way past the

:14:39.:14:49.

Italian. It is the two Kayas. Aras, with a couple of laps to go,

:14:50.:14:54.

he decided to make his move. He looks comfortable. The pace is not

:14:55.:15:05.

swift. Iningetting into a good position in -- Ibrahimov in a good

:15:06.:15:13.

position as well. Ingebrigtsen, with that foot injury

:15:14.:15:17.

and he's building back from that. At his very best, he is a danger. He

:15:18.:15:21.

would expect to come in and challenge for this race. His younger

:15:22.:15:26.

brother, Phillip, did not look so good in the 1500 metres. He's

:15:27.:15:30.

looking better today. On to the shoulder of Ali Kaya. Not

:15:31.:15:40.

doing anything to help, though. 12 athletes separated by ten metres or

:15:41.:15:54.

so. The third Turk in the field, Ozdemir.

:15:55.:15:58.

Mechaal there behind them, the Spaniard.

:15:59.:16:10.

The Swedish athlete anderesson moves into motion.

:16:11.:16:22.

A lot of bumping and barging going on now. This is when the race gets

:16:23.:16:28.

dangerous. I watched young Crippa moving around the outside, get

:16:29.:16:36.

pushed wide. A lot of shoving around. The athletes have to watch

:16:37.:16:39.

where they put their feet and try and stay out of trouble, whilst

:16:40.:16:42.

thinking about making their moves. Into the final 800 metres we go.

:16:43.:16:46.

Ring ring out in front. -- Ringer out in front.

:16:47.:17:05.

Razine has been in all sorts of jostling and bumping, trying to go

:17:06.:17:08.

through a gap that wasn't there. Now he's on the outside getting into a

:17:09.:17:11.

better position. Razine making his move.

:17:12.:17:18.

Ingebrigtsen in fourth place. The pace is picking up. Nothing suddenly

:17:19.:17:23.

shocking the pace. A gradual wind up.

:17:24.:17:26.

It is getting quicker and you can see that by the way the field is

:17:27.:17:33.

stringing out behind. The tosh athletes do not look to be a force

:17:34.:17:38.

now. Ringer still leading them around.

:17:39.:17:43.

Mechaal looking to his outside. Razine on the inside. Ininthere as

:17:44.:17:45.

well. The pace continues to lift. And we

:17:46.:18:00.

have a race on our hands now. And Richard Ringer giving himself the

:18:01.:18:07.

best chance for a pace now. At the moment Mechaal, although an anxious

:18:08.:18:10.

look over his shoulder, was looking the strongest. He kicks hard.

:18:11.:18:18.

Ingebrigtsen looks strong. Ringer has done so much of the hard

:18:19.:18:20.

work. Ingebrigtsen digs in. Mechaal grits

:18:21.:18:33.

his teeth and goes again. Ingebrigtsen, what does he have

:18:34.:18:37.

left? Mechaal looking around. He's going to take it and Mechaal, with a

:18:38.:18:43.

clench of the fist. Ringer hangs on for bronze.

:18:44.:18:55.

Richard Ringer took it on. Mechaal, he was the strongest and the

:18:56.:19:01.

Spaniard wins the gold and wins it well. Ingebrigtsen couldn't get back

:19:02.:19:06.

to him. A very, very well judged race there

:19:07.:19:11.

by Mechaal. I think you have to say that Richard Ringer earned that

:19:12.:19:14.

Bronze Medal. He worked hard for that. He did the work to break that

:19:15.:19:19.

race apart. Mechaal down the home straight. Anicous look over his

:19:20.:19:24.

shoulder. I think with one lap to go. It was Anicous look around. He

:19:25.:19:29.

knew if Ingebrigtsen was at his best he was the biggest danger there.

:19:30.:19:34.

Maybe a shade disappointed not to have won that. He will be happy with

:19:35.:19:39.

that silver medal, too. And a Mechaal gold meed until the men's

:19:40.:19:45.

3,000 metres. -- medal in the men's 3,000 metres.

:19:46.:19:55.

The back of the triple jump. Heb became the youngest ever outdoor

:19:56.:20:00.

champion. Only had one valid jump here in the third round, which is in

:20:01.:20:05.

third place. Last chance to grasp the gold. We

:20:06.:20:11.

know he's capable of it. No. Well, that is an upset. Hess,

:20:12.:20:18.

17. 52 in qualifying. Couldn't repeat that kind of form in the

:20:19.:20:23.

final. Has to settle for third. 16. . 57. That has popped up on the

:20:24.:20:28.

computer. Nowhere near the timing we saw him have yesterday. Max Hess,

:20:29.:20:37.

oh, he's not on it today, is he? You can see he realises that halfway

:20:38.:20:41.

through that effort. Disappointment in a way. But a

:20:42.:20:48.

Bronze Medal, at 20 n the European indoor championships may be

:20:49.:20:53.

something to cherish. He would have learned lots. So it is over to the

:20:54.:20:58.

two older men. We saw them jump earlier.

:20:59.:21:05.

Hess spikes off. He's done, he's had his sixth and final jump. Only two

:21:06.:21:10.

athletes remain. The gold medal not decided just yet. Yet Danato is up

:21:11.:21:20.

next. Olympic bronze in 2012. 40 years old! Quite impressive.

:21:21.:21:29.

Coach, Andrew Howell, he's a better jumper than the coach nowadays. It

:21:30.:21:33.

would seem last chance to improve silver to gold. Nom No! Not quite

:21:34.:21:43.

the climax we hoped for, but Donato looks pretty pleased with that. So

:21:44.:21:48.

he should be. 16 times Italian champion - that's got to be some

:21:49.:21:52.

sort of a record. Possibly the age between silver and bronze of 20

:21:53.:22:02.

years might be a record as well. Looks like he's handed victory to

:22:03.:22:05.

the man who took the approach behind him. Donato taking some applause.

:22:06.:22:14.

Silver. No improvement in the last round.

:22:15.:22:24.

Donato, no improvement means that Evora is the champion once again.

:22:25.:22:28.

Successful defence. 32 years old himself.

:22:29.:22:36.

What can he do in the last round? Doesn't need to do any more to take

:22:37.:22:40.

the gold, but clearly optimistic. Good extension. Similar effort

:22:41.:22:52.

around the 17-metre mark. Well, Evora, just seven centimetres

:22:53.:22:54.

ahead of Donato. Look what it means to him - another

:22:55.:23:15.

gold for his collection. So impressive when it comes to the

:23:16.:23:20.

chance. Congratulations to Hess and Evora, successful defence of his

:23:21.:23:23.

European title. There are the three medal winners,

:23:24.:23:35.

Ringer, on the right for Germany, who took bronzed at the 5,000 metres

:23:36.:23:43.

outdoors last summer. Ingebrigtsen and Mechaal, of Spain,

:23:44.:23:44.

the champion. Mechaal with the gold and

:23:45.:23:57.

Ingebrigtsen with the silver and Richard Ringer, the bronze.

:23:58.:24:08.

Now then, Robbie Grabarz, talk about medal collections, he's got an

:24:09.:24:12.

impressive one of his own - world indoors last year. Impressive 2. 23.

:24:13.:24:20.

Goes clear comfortably. What a great start to this high jump final.

:24:21.:24:24.

Looked great yesterday in qualifiation. I know Tony watching

:24:25.:24:32.

that closely, he knows a thing or two about jumps. What did you see?

:24:33.:24:37.

It was difficult for Robbie. The Polish athlete his run-up is on the

:24:38.:24:42.

outside. He asked the officials if they could suspend the competition

:24:43.:24:45.

while the 3,000 metres was on. Robbie was ready to jump. They had

:24:46.:24:50.

to sit down and wait until the end of the 3,000 metres. Sorry to cut

:24:51.:24:57.

in. Alan Smith, behind you, he's just, as you can see over your left

:24:58.:25:04.

shoulder, just knocking the bar off. Did you get to take that in? He was

:25:05.:25:10.

close. His inside shoulder, tucks it in. He did not block and get enough

:25:11.:25:16.

elevation. Just carrying too much speed across the foot, too long

:25:17.:25:20.

across the bar. Nice and smooth at 2. 18. . Hopefully he should get

:25:21.:25:28.

this height. So, no casualties yet. Eight finalists, including two

:25:29.:25:31.

Brits, Grabarz and Smith, both into the competition.

:25:32.:25:37.

The German jumps have gone very well at these championships.

:25:38.:25:52.

Looking good at 2. 23. Profblly not a height that will put

:25:53.:25:59.

anyone in contention for medals. That's likely to be around the

:26:00.:26:06.

2.28-sorry 2. 27, is it, is the actual height they will go after

:26:07.:26:13.

this, 2. 23 and then it will go 2.30 before 2.32. If we need it.

:26:14.:26:21.

Second time clearance there for the German.

:26:22.:26:28.

Ches aurks ni looking to match that -- Chesani looking to match that,

:26:29.:26:38.

and he does. 2. 28 he cleared yesterday. He's a 2.33 jumper. When

:26:39.:26:43.

he gets that right. He did that four years ago. One to watch out for.

:26:44.:26:50.

The athletes, as ever, go across to the coaches, get a little bit of

:26:51.:26:54.

advice on their run-ups. Where their feet are. Make some

:26:55.:26:56.

adjustments. Allan Smith has been very consistent

:26:57.:27:11.

this year. 2. . 25-plus on a number of occasions. 2. 26, his best so far

:27:12.:27:17.

this year. 2. 25 yesterday. So, 2. 23. Second attempt.

:27:18.:27:23.

No! Well, two fouls. He'll have one more chance to go clear.

:27:24.:27:33.

The point was made yesterday with regards to Morgan Lake, they are

:27:34.:27:39.

having problems coming from that left-hand side. There is so much to

:27:40.:27:45.

cram in. And this man has crammed in a few golds so far in his young

:27:46.:27:50.

indoor career, because this is the third major championship gold. His

:27:51.:27:56.

second European indoor, Richard Kilty. He was so emotional

:27:57.:28:00.

yesterday. His family, his son, the people of Teesside. I mean, he was

:28:01.:28:05.

just, he was gushing... And it means so much to him. It does mean a lot

:28:06.:28:10.

to this young man. When you defend a title, it is tough enough. The way

:28:11.:28:15.

he's come to do this, for me it is pleasing for him. He's a very good

:28:16.:28:19.

sprinter. Sometimes we forget how good he is. He's winning medals for

:28:20.:28:24.

this country, gold medals for this country over that great distance. We

:28:25.:28:28.

have to hail him as a true champion and not forget what he's achieving.

:28:29.:28:32.

He's excitable. That is what you need, people who are honest about

:28:33.:28:36.

their sport. He pulls no punches when he talks. He's given a very

:28:37.:28:42.

frank assessment himself, where he is and what he's doing. He's a good

:28:43.:28:47.

ambassador for the sport. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He's

:28:48.:28:52.

invested a lot of time, as all these athletes do. They are dependant on

:28:53.:28:56.

their funding, making ends meet. This is not a rich sported. It

:28:57.:29:00.

really isn't. So, they take it seriously. So, to come away with

:29:01.:29:04.

another gold medal, he'll be looking, OK, I know I'm good enough,

:29:05.:29:10.

I know I'm good enough, I take to take this outdoors, because he's

:29:11.:29:16.

ambitious. Sometimes he wants it too much. But this is a great platform

:29:17.:29:19.

for Hopefully he will take this form and

:29:20.:29:26.

move it on outside. And Steve Cram can talk you through his medal

:29:27.:29:29.

ceremony. There were three Swedes in the

:29:30.:29:38.

final, Austin Hamilton beat his team-mate by two thousand of a

:29:39.:29:50.

second. For the third time in three years, Richard Kilty takes the gold

:29:51.:29:52.

medal in the 60 metres. APPLAUSE

:29:53.:30:37.

I'm sure there were celebrations in Middlesbrough last night. A big hero

:30:38.:30:42.

back in that part of the world and for the British team, leading by

:30:43.:30:46.

example once more. Three tough races yesterday but coming out on top.

:30:47.:30:54.

Andy Robinson with a false start. Richard Kilty came out victorious.

:30:55.:31:05.

STUDIO: In some ways, outdoors there have been a lot above him in terms

:31:06.:31:13.

of British Championships and the attention has been on the likes of

:31:14.:31:24.

Adam Jimmy -- Adam Jameli. Is there any advice you can offer him to

:31:25.:31:31.

help? For him to stay healthy. It is so healthy that we keep very

:31:32.:31:36.

healthy. That will be the most important thing. This young man is

:31:37.:31:44.

under a bit of pressure. He is. Allan Smith with the last chance to

:31:45.:31:50.

stay in this high jump final. No! Well, he will be desperately

:31:51.:31:59.

disappointed with that. He has cleared 2.23 in all but one of his

:32:00.:32:07.

competitions so far this year. Tony, I know you've been watching that

:32:08.:32:13.

closely. What are you thinking? Well, he made an adjustment and

:32:14.:32:16.

moved his run-up back which would have kept him away from the bar but

:32:17.:32:21.

still, the inside shoulder goes in. He should have clipped it off more

:32:22.:32:27.

with his left hand as he rotated in. Difficult to see but for me that

:32:28.:32:30.

little rotation and drops the shoulder and goes in instead of

:32:31.:32:35.

stretching and going up that little bit. Really unfortunate. 2.23 is

:32:36.:32:42.

about what he's been jumping. It's been a long indoor season for the

:32:43.:32:47.

lads. A bit unfortunate, possibly should have had that type and he'll

:32:48.:32:53.

be a bit upset by that I suspect. End of Allan Smith's chances. Robbie

:32:54.:32:59.

Grabarz still the British interest, how is he looking? Robbie's licking

:33:00.:33:08.

goods. First-time clearance at 2.23. Probably the medals will be run with

:33:09.:33:17.

a first-time clearance at 2.30. I think he's in with a shot at a

:33:18.:33:24.

medal. Some unusual preparation from Robbie, waking himself up as we turn

:33:25.:33:35.

our attention to Bednarek. That was a mess. Bednarek of Poland 's. He

:33:36.:33:45.

has done 2.33 this year. We were watching this closely and we had him

:33:46.:33:49.

down as one of the main contenders. He made a hash of that.

:33:50.:34:02.

Across the other side, Dudas in this heptathlon pole vault. He goes

:34:03.:34:22.

clear. Wow. He's only ever had a best of 4.82, that's what the home

:34:23.:34:27.

advantage does. We're looking at the predicted scores across these last

:34:28.:34:30.

couple of events, he has a chance of getting on the rostrum, I'm sure the

:34:31.:34:38.

crowds here in busy winning's final session, they are going to shout him

:34:39.:34:50.

round in the 1000 metres. A lifetime best for Dudas. Massive noise around

:34:51.:34:59.

the stadium. Robbie Grabarz will welcome that. All of a sudden the

:35:00.:35:06.

place feels more important than it did a few moments ago because of the

:35:07.:35:10.

noise that goes through you down there, track-side. Attention turns

:35:11.:35:19.

to Robbie Grabarz. Clearance at 2.23. Silver medal last year in the

:35:20.:35:28.

indoors, bronze in the Olympics in 2012, European champion in 2012

:35:29.:35:34.

outdoors. Had an appendix problem earlier this year. Robbie Grabarz

:35:35.:35:45.

steps out with the bar is set at 2.27. Yes! Robbie Grabarz, very

:35:46.:35:52.

goods. White is proud to suggest he knew he'd given it the slightest of

:35:53.:36:06.

wobbles. Good stuff, Robbie. He is staying. Toni Minichiello, what did

:36:07.:36:12.

you make of that? That's a good first-time clearance. It might prove

:36:13.:36:16.

really important later on in the competition. It certainly puts him

:36:17.:36:20.

in the driving seat. There's a view other people jumping clean and they

:36:21.:36:35.

are yet to take attempts. We saw Bednarek make a mess of that height.

:36:36.:36:43.

This is Bubenik of the Slovak Republic.

:36:44.:36:51.

He may have hurt himself over that, possibly. Mix in slight discomfort,

:36:52.:37:03.

there. This is a crucial height, first-time clearance for Robbie a

:37:04.:37:07.

few moments ago puts him in good stead but a foul for Bubenik. But

:37:08.:37:15.

high jump is looking good at the moment. I'm not biased but come on

:37:16.:37:22.

Robbie I need that fifth gold medal for my predictions. And what about

:37:23.:37:25.

Shelayna Oskan-Clarke, what about her chances in the first of two 800

:37:26.:37:34.

metre finals. This is an open race. We have the defending champion in

:37:35.:37:40.

this, I'm not sure she's right on top form. This is the full start

:37:41.:37:48.

list. Jenny Meadows is a crowned indoor

:37:49.:38:24.

European champion from 2011. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke with a real

:38:25.:38:27.

opportunity, really struggled with her first two or three races of the

:38:28.:38:31.

season. A very good training camp for her in South Africa. Came home

:38:32.:38:37.

expecting to commit to the season but she's warmed up nicely towards

:38:38.:38:41.

these championships, has been improving and is in the final. To

:38:42.:38:45.

get in the final you've got a great opportunity. She will have beaten

:38:46.:38:52.

all of these women at some point in her career but right now that time,

:38:53.:38:59.

forget the times of the athletes, it's going to be a bit tactical.

:39:00.:39:05.

Sometimes Shelayna likes to front run, but here is a committed front

:39:06.:39:15.

runner. Hinriksdottir has got a bit more weaponry these days but her

:39:16.:39:19.

natural game is to get out in front and lead it and make it hard. Selina

:39:20.:39:24.

Buchel will not do that, she'll try and get herself in a good position

:39:25.:39:28.

and try and dominate in the last hundred metres. The defending

:39:29.:39:39.

champion from Switzerland. Could this young lady beat a threat,

:39:40.:39:52.

Troest. In the slow race she's always going to be dangerous.

:39:53.:40:05.

Barrera is strong, she brings a strength. -- Guerrero. Can Great

:40:06.:40:18.

Britain find another medal here? Now the women's 800-metre final.

:40:19.:40:23.

Hinriksdottir just took a little back step.

:40:24.:40:33.

A bit of a surprise to see the defending champion taking this out.

:40:34.:40:40.

Perhaps this will be good for Shelayna Oskan-Clarke. Buchel

:40:41.:40:43.

thinking she can run sub two minutes, I'm not sure everyone else

:40:44.:40:53.

can. I wonder if Buchel hasn't been 100% coming into these

:40:54.:40:56.

championships. She looks better today and has attacked this race.

:40:57.:41:02.

Hinriksdottir has resorted back to the tactics she used in the heats

:41:03.:41:08.

which worked better for her. For a lot of these women, note decisions

:41:09.:41:13.

to make. It's following Buchel. Coming round to 400 metres, halfway.

:41:14.:41:18.

Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in a great position. Heading for something a

:41:19.:41:29.

little bit better... Who's got the legs here? Hinriksdottir can't get

:41:30.:41:32.

up to the front because Buchel is keeping the pressure on. Shelayna

:41:33.:41:42.

managed to move clear and has kept herself out of trouble so far and

:41:43.:41:48.

run a very good race. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke has just got to time it

:41:49.:41:56.

right. Buchel holds her. Shelayna giving her an elbow... Let's hope

:41:57.:42:00.

she's not affected, she still hanging onto the defending champion.

:42:01.:42:06.

Hinriksdottir trying to give chase. Now, 50 metres to go. Shelayna

:42:07.:42:12.

Oskan-Clarke on the shoulder of Buchel, here she comes, can Buchel

:42:13.:42:18.

hold her off? Is she going to get there? Oh! Two metres out it was

:42:19.:42:28.

Buchel, one metre out it was Buchel. But I can't call this. This is as

:42:29.:42:34.

close to a dead heat as I've seen. I'm not going to call this because

:42:35.:42:41.

Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in the last stride might just have stolen Nat.

:42:42.:42:49.

We are a bit biased. It's been given to Buchel. By one hundredth of a

:42:50.:43:01.

second. She was so close, none of us knew, even she didn't know. There

:43:02.:43:08.

were a few elbows and some pushing and shoving. You wonder if Shelayna

:43:09.:43:17.

had waited at the Bell, but what's an effort from Shelayna

:43:18.:43:21.

Oskan-Clarke. She's run a huge personal best. For me that looks as

:43:22.:43:26.

though she just got that on the line. We aren't at the same angle

:43:27.:43:30.

they will have at the photo finish but that looks a lot closer than one

:43:31.:43:40.

hundredth. She's used those shoulders to good avail because she

:43:41.:43:45.

gave a few hard shoulders to Shelayna Oskan-Clarke on that final

:43:46.:43:49.

lap. Maybe its experience, maybe as a bit of extra confidence, the

:43:50.:43:54.

defending champion maybe had a bit of a mental edge over that final 100

:43:55.:43:59.

metres but Shelayna Oskan-Clarke did nothing wrong.

:44:00.:44:03.

You have to get in front of the athlete. You cannot really do that.

:44:04.:44:09.

She never got in front of her, Buchel fought for that insideline

:44:10.:44:13.

and held it. To be fair, the two of them were scrapping, going for the

:44:14.:44:19.

gold medal here. I wonder if she was impatient at that point? She was.

:44:20.:44:24.

She showed a little bit of inexperience racing indoors, in

:44:25.:44:27.

particular. She wanted it a little bit too much, too early, with 200

:44:28.:44:31.

metres to go. Neither did anything wrong. She could have swung wide

:44:32.:44:40.

earlier in that final 50 metres and been able to come tlusmt and maybe

:44:41.:44:45.

get there on the line. I think she gave it everything she had. She ran

:44:46.:44:49.

her best race there. It wasn't quite enough.

:44:50.:44:56.

Watch here with your stride. Because you can see Buchel starts to lean

:44:57.:45:09.

forward. It just works for her that the arm that's driving forward at

:45:10.:45:14.

the line. Watch this, the arm comes forward because the other leg is

:45:15.:45:18.

going forward. That shoulder took it by 100th of a second, but that is

:45:19.:45:24.

still a good run from Shelayna Oskan-Clark. Almost, almost winning

:45:25.:45:30.

it. But a great silver medal. And a silver medal she can be really proud

:45:31.:45:32.

of. A des ter peration -- desperation lunge. She grew in

:45:33.:45:52.

confidence through the rounds and in that final, she didn't really put

:45:53.:45:57.

one foot wrong. She didn't quite, quite get there in the end if. It

:45:58.:46:06.

had been 802 metres she might have made it. That is a personal best.

:46:07.:46:11.

You come to championships worried about early season form. Got better

:46:12.:46:17.

and better. Well done to her and her coach. Got herself into the right

:46:18.:46:20.

position. Love the fact that Buchel took it out. That times moves her up

:46:21.:46:29.

the British-all time list. Behind sharp sharp Be Sharp.

:46:30.:46:34.

Butch buch, a new record for her. -- behind Sharp. Buchel, a new

:46:35.:46:49.

record for her. A great race from the two of them. Let's confirm it

:46:50.:46:52.

all. Bronze for Iceland. Silver for Great

:46:53.:47:03.

Britain. A personal best time. And the new

:47:04.:47:11.

national record for Selina Buchel of Switzerland.

:47:12.:47:17.

Congratulations. A fantastic performance. What a battle you had

:47:18.:47:24.

with Buchel. Describe it for us. I was trying to be brave. It was

:47:25.:47:29.

probably silly to go there unless I had committed more to doing it. And

:47:30.:47:34.

maybe if I sat, if I had that little bit at the end, but this annoying.

:47:35.:47:43.

Did you think you had her on the line? It was close. So I didn't

:47:44.:47:47.

know. I knew that I was really pushing hard to get her on the line.

:47:48.:47:52.

I don't know if I'd of got it or not. I saw Kelly here in the coach's

:47:53.:47:58.

area, saying don't be disappointed, it is silver medal. Your first major

:47:59.:48:02.

medal as well. You have to celebrate the joy of

:48:03.:48:05.

You always want the gold. I am glad that I came and I committed to it,

:48:06.:48:11.

what it was I wanted to do in the races. So close to the gold, but,

:48:12.:48:16.

I'm happy. I suppose I've got to be happy. When I go back I'll be fine.

:48:17.:48:21.

It is because it was so close it is a bit disappointing.

:48:22.:48:23.

We will show you on the monitor what happened? I was thinking, maybe I

:48:24.:48:33.

should go now because I felt good, but... She used her shoulder to good

:48:34.:48:38.

effect. That is what you meant to do. It threw me off. I need to be

:48:39.:48:46.

further forward, to be honest. Maybe I should have attacked it a bit

:48:47.:48:50.

earlier. Rather so close to the bend. But, you live and learn and I

:48:51.:48:55.

tried. I was braver. And I actually won a PB! And you are going to take

:48:56.:49:01.

that forward to the outdoor season. World Championship year. This has

:49:02.:49:06.

set you up perfectly. Yes. Is that all you're going to say? Yes.

:49:07.:49:10.

Thanks, Phil. Congratulations on silver. We wish you well for the

:49:11.:49:13.

rest of the season. Thank you. Goodbye.

:49:14.:49:19.

So that is silver. It further extends Great Britain's lead at the

:49:20.:49:24.

top of the table in terms of the medals won and Colin Jackson,

:49:25.:49:29.

fist-thumping, bringing him closer to his prediction. This is all about

:49:30.:49:35.

Colin, this. He looks like the plun dit who will win the sweep stake.

:49:36.:49:47.

Grabarz has taken to the runway already. The bar is set at 2 metres

:49:48.:49:53.

and 30 centimetres. 2.30... He's got it. Clear at the

:49:54.:50:08.

first time of asking. A significant height. Allan Smith is out.

:50:09.:50:14.

Supporting his team-mate, Robbie Grabarz.

:50:15.:50:19.

He may have just done something that others can't, because athletes have

:50:20.:50:23.

struggled so far in this high jump competition.

:50:24.:50:35.

Toni Minichiello down there, a very close view of that. The first time

:50:36.:50:40.

clearance of 2. . 27 put him into a medal position. That changes the

:50:41.:50:44.

colour and potentially puts him into gold. Now people have to out-jump

:50:45.:50:48.

him. They have to jump higher than him. The next will be 2.32. Maybe

:50:49.:50:54.

people will pass and go to higher heights.

:50:55.:51:03.

Then we have the Bella Russia, who is yet to jump at this height. It is

:51:04.:51:12.

still as yet a very tight competition. And by now you

:51:13.:51:17.

recognise that is a familiar noise and light show to introduce the next

:51:18.:51:20.

final. It is the women's long jump. We are getting close to a full house

:51:21.:51:25.

here. That is because they really fancy their chances.

:51:26.:51:38.

Ivana Spanovic. Outside there is a poster 60 metres high of this woman.

:51:39.:51:45.

They expect and she posted over seven metres, I think it was seven

:51:46.:51:51.

metres three. Then walked out as cool as a cucumber. This lady is

:51:52.:51:57.

feeling cool. She's giving it the moves. Lorraine ug ug. Great respect

:51:58.:52:08.

from -- Ugen. Great respect here.

:52:09.:52:12.

Maybe it is the feeling of last day. We are coming up to the final events

:52:13.:52:25.

of these championships. There is Estonia's Balta.

:52:26.:52:33.

Jasmine can do a somersault, if she wishes to. She can pull it out of

:52:34.:52:38.

the bag. Quite simple for our Jasmine. A kiss

:52:39.:52:44.

for the crowd. She hopes to pull out big jumps. She squeezed into this

:52:45.:52:50.

final, as she often does. She can do it on the big stage as can this

:52:51.:52:56.

lady. Darya. She is exempt because she does all

:52:57.:53:01.

of ther training in America. So, she is a mutual in this competition. And

:53:02.:53:06.

expect her to ruffle some feathers today.

:53:07.:53:10.

And it will go on bringing out all of these competitors, this

:53:11.:53:13.

introduction. They will have their final warm hups and we will be all

:53:14.:53:17.

over this -- warm-ups and then we will be all over this competition.

:53:18.:53:23.

Spanovic, every time she takes to the runway, it will be electric and

:53:24.:53:28.

hopefully the British athletes will be amongst the competition and

:53:29.:53:31.

keeping their jumps competitive throughout the afternoon.

:53:32.:53:38.

Watching all that and enjoying it, I am sure Richard.

:53:39.:53:41.

A huge congratulations on your gold medal. Did you enjoy your moment

:53:42.:53:46.

coming out there? It was nice. It was different. It is like a boxer

:53:47.:53:51.

coming out for a fight. I like that little introduction.

:53:52.:53:53.

It is different. You into the block. The field athletes have more time.

:53:54.:54:03.

You have to get and with what's been going on in the blocks in this

:54:04.:54:07.

competition, with all the false starts and various technical issues.

:54:08.:54:15.

Did that play on the mind at all? I spoke with my supporting:. And they

:54:16.:54:24.

said be solid in the blocks. After a couple of weeks ago I kept as

:54:25.:54:28.

relaxed and composed. I was not moving even if I was last out the

:54:29.:54:32.

blocks. How much does this gold medal mean? It is the third on the

:54:33.:54:40.

global champions and where you are now in your life, does this feel

:54:41.:54:43.

different? It definitely feels different. I'm a dad now. I'm

:54:44.:54:48.

engaged. It's completely different to where I was two years ago. I came

:54:49.:54:54.

out here with an orange bib on. It is a different mentality. To win

:54:55.:54:59.

this one for my son, as a father, it is a big one. It probably means the

:55:00.:55:05.

most to me. I got him a nice little teddy bear. How were you affected by

:55:06.:55:11.

the three rounds? I mean, you seem to grow each time. Really composed

:55:12.:55:18.

and really relaxed. In the championships I enjoy it when I come

:55:19.:55:22.

out. I enjoy it under the lights. I feel at home here. I thought with

:55:23.:55:26.

every round I need to be solid every round and lay the stamp down. The

:55:27.:55:30.

main thing was to stay relaxed. I was tired. We were up about 6am for

:55:31.:55:36.

breakfast, getting ready for the stadium and the final was 9am. It

:55:37.:55:41.

was a long, long day. I went back and have a little nap, spoke to the

:55:42.:55:47.

family. To come back in and keep resetting, later on. It was tough.

:55:48.:55:53.

Guys, I am going to have to... Hold that thought for a second because

:55:54.:55:57.

the noise tells us that Spanovic is out on the runway. Let's get out

:55:58.:55:59.

there and enjoy this. The whole of Serbia will be hoping

:56:00.:56:10.

for this athlete, the hugely popular Ivana Spanovic. She said? Her press

:56:11.:56:22.

conference, "I will take gold." A world leading jump in

:56:23.:56:27.

qualification, making light work opens her account in this long jump

:56:28.:56:28.

final. It is massive. She really went for

:56:29.:56:44.

it. Ivana Spanovic maybe buzzing a bit too much from the support of the

:56:45.:56:50.

home crowd. The red flag is raised. Well it was a significant foul, but

:56:51.:56:54.

it was a huge jump. You haven't got to take that much off. She's in

:56:55.:56:58.

serious shape. She'll have to control it, though.

:56:59.:57:03.

And relax into that second round, Spanovic, bronze-medallist last year

:57:04.:57:10.

in Rio, comes in here as favourite. The home

:57:11.:57:22.

advantage, She said she's not intimidated. She wants to bring it a

:57:23.:57:30.

door has opened because of that foul of Spanovic. Lorraine Ugen of Great

:57:31.:57:37.

Britain can put a mark out here to give Spanovic something to think

:57:38.:57:38.

about. Ugen, first attempt. It is a valid mark. It's not quite

:57:39.:57:55.

the distance she may have hoped for. Ugen, 6.93 she jumped last year.

:57:56.:57:59.

Just that right foot, as ever, it is a trademark. It does cost her

:58:00.:58:06.

distance. Lorraine Ugen, 25 years of age.

:58:07.:58:09.

Based in the States now. Second place so far.

:58:10.:58:22.

6. 75. Good, strong opener there.

:58:23.:58:26.

You can see she tried to calm the crowd before she went so she could

:58:27.:58:31.

focus on what we're going to do. Before we went to her jump, it is

:58:32.:58:35.

the same thing I was going to say to Richard here. You have through this

:58:36.:58:41.

championship - you've had a sense of calm about you. You look like you

:58:42.:58:45.

were to do a job and each and every round you were there in the moment.

:58:46.:58:49.

It said to me, this guy is the champion. One of my good friends,

:58:50.:58:55.

from back home, he told me a couple of weeks ago, after Sheffield, just

:58:56.:58:59.

remember how you were when you were in school, you just ran, you're

:59:00.:59:02.

fearless and enjoying it. You don't have a care in the world. That is

:59:03.:59:07.

it. Before I would go out for each of my runs I would look at a picture

:59:08.:59:12.

of my baby's face and I would smile. The occasion didn't get to me

:59:13.:59:15.

because I thought no matter what he'll be smiling when I get back. I

:59:16.:59:21.

stayed composed. I knew it would be the relaxation that would pull me

:59:22.:59:22.

through. The Serbian pentathlete just going

:59:23.:59:37.

out on what has been a really fantastic competition in the men's

:59:38.:59:42.

pentathlon. It has been a long competition. These guys have been

:59:43.:59:48.

there for a couple of hours already. Jazmin Sawyers. COMMENTATOR: Jazmin

:59:49.:00:00.

Sawyers 's first attempt. Maybe not quite what she would have hoped for.

:00:01.:00:07.

Built into her Johnson the qualification, needed all three of

:00:08.:00:10.

her attempt yesterday to make this final. The jump the is 6.47. Goes

:00:11.:00:24.

into third place. Six attempts as ever for the athletes. 6.47. Kelly's

:00:25.:00:33.

saw that in talking about deceleration, possibly. -- Kelly

:00:34.:00:49.

Sullivan. A huge roar from him. We saw him make a dog 's dinner of his

:00:50.:00:54.

first attempt. Nearly took the whole bed away. He tidy things up to good

:00:55.:01:00.

effect and matched the height that Robbie Grabarz has gone clear at.

:01:01.:01:05.

But at the second time of asking meaning Robbie Grabarz is in the

:01:06.:01:13.

lead. Bednorak the only other athletes so far to go clear at this

:01:14.:01:25.

height. Back to the long jump. Champion twice in this event. Looked

:01:26.:01:34.

as though she had to chop her stride to get a jump in. She has some

:01:35.:01:43.

history with Spanovic as well. They came through the junior ranks

:01:44.:01:51.

together. It's going to be a good tussle between Klishina and

:01:52.:01:55.

Spanovic, and hopefully Lorraine Ugen. 6.62 for Klishina. STUDIO:

:01:56.:02:05.

Klishina can jump a lot bigger than that. The atmosphere here is

:02:06.:02:12.

pumping. Expectation for Spanovic and building to a nice climax. Good

:02:13.:02:17.

to see some good new faces coming through here. Does the team feel

:02:18.:02:23.

fresh? Definitely. I'm the third oldest on my team now and I feel new

:02:24.:02:30.

to the team. I only started making the team in 2014. It's a really

:02:31.:02:35.

fresh team with a really nice bars. Everyone is really enthusiastic. The

:02:36.:02:42.

question is, as we move out of this indoor season and move into the

:02:43.:02:45.

outdoor competition, how are you going to take this form outdoors? I

:02:46.:02:55.

come in great shape because I have October, November, December, January

:02:56.:02:59.

preparation. I'm physically stronger, I'm leaner and I think I'm

:03:00.:03:04.

going to take a good two months preparation for the outdoors to make

:03:05.:03:09.

sure I'm in that physical shape. We wish you the very best and

:03:10.:03:13.

congratulations again. Enjoy your moment when you get home to your

:03:14.:03:19.

family. Steve Cram for the 800-metre men's final. COMMENTATOR: Well done,

:03:20.:03:23.

Richard. We move to another 800 metres. That's a familiar pose. I

:03:24.:03:31.

don't think he's taking his pulse but he always grabs his wrist. An

:03:32.:03:38.

interesting final, he is definitely the red-hot favourite.

:03:39.:03:54.

For me, Kszczot can't be beaten. He only made the semifinal in the pics

:03:55.:04:02.

last year and his team mate got to the final in Rio in the 800 which

:04:03.:04:07.

was a bit of a turnaround is. I had a chat with one of my old Spanish

:04:08.:04:13.

friends and he thinks Lopez is the one who will get in France. I

:04:14.:04:18.

thought the other youngster on the inside looked very good yesterday

:04:19.:04:21.

but he said no, Lopez will win the medal. Kupers put a really quick lap

:04:22.:04:35.

in the semifinals. That put paid to Kyle Langford. He likes to front run

:04:36.:04:41.

sometimes, Kupers. This guide to me looks impressive and if it's a bit

:04:42.:04:50.

slow he will be dangerous. De Arriba was second to Lopez at the Spanish

:04:51.:04:55.

championships. Kszczot is quicker than anyone else, in terms of a fast

:04:56.:05:05.

race I think if Kupers goes fast I think Kszczot will still be there.

:05:06.:05:17.

Men 800 metres final. Lopez is trying to come across. His

:05:18.:05:26.

team-mates getting a push. It's not back quick through the first 200

:05:27.:05:32.

metres. Not back quick at all. Lopez trying to control the race but I

:05:33.:05:38.

agree, I think in a slow run race De Arriba is the stronger threat,

:05:39.:05:42.

although Kszczot is the one who will control this race. I don't think

:05:43.:05:46.

Kupers will wait too long before moving to the front. Kszczot has got

:05:47.:05:53.

to get closer hair. This is very slow. Lopez controlling it at the

:05:54.:06:01.

front. Kszczot knows Kupers is going to try and come around everybody.

:06:02.:06:14.

That's very slow through 400 metres. Kupers has decided to put it on the

:06:15.:06:20.

line, Kszczot reacting. Kupers tracking him. The crowd going crazy.

:06:21.:06:26.

Serbian action elsewhere. Kszczot coming onto the shoulder... Kupers

:06:27.:06:35.

in a good spot. Kevin Lopez has gone. Kupers gives him a shove...

:06:36.:06:48.

Kszczot is running away with this. He's going to take the gold. Bube

:06:49.:06:56.

will take the silver but its gold Kszczot, Bube seconds. De Arriba won

:06:57.:07:05.

the battle for the bronze medal. There was never really going to be

:07:06.:07:10.

anyone to threaten him. It didn't matter how messy race. I thought it

:07:11.:07:15.

was odd what Lopez did. It have been better off sitting and waiting.

:07:16.:07:19.

Kupers never got a chance to try and use what he's got and got squeezed

:07:20.:07:25.

out by the two Spanish athletes. He's a great exponent of this in

:07:26.:07:36.

indoor running. He's delivered. He has, absolutely. He's one of the

:07:37.:07:42.

world-class top athletes outdoors but indoors he's another level up

:07:43.:07:49.

again. He controls the race wherever he is placed. Bube took it to him

:07:50.:07:55.

and gave it everything he has and thoroughly deserves the silver

:07:56.:08:02.

medal. I think De Arriba has a bit of a complaint to put in there. -- I

:08:03.:08:12.

think Kupers has a complaint to put in there. Kszczot the

:08:13.:08:18.

gold-medallist, Bube winning a medal for Denmark and De Arriba getting

:08:19.:08:30.

the bronze for Spain. Spanovic on the runway for her second attempt.

:08:31.:08:35.

Huge file in the first rounds. If she gets this right it could be

:08:36.:08:46.

enormous -- huge foul. Lorraine Ugen waiting... It's a big effort from

:08:47.:08:52.

Spanovic. It's huge. It's over seven metres, it's the white flag...

:08:53.:09:00.

Spanovic, the champion two years ago, has just produced a very

:09:01.:09:06.

special jump in the second round. Good extension. Not as big as the

:09:07.:09:12.

first jump and a tiniest of space to spare on the board. Good adjustment

:09:13.:09:20.

from her. She's experienced. It's 7.16, a new world leads. A lifetime

:09:21.:09:28.

best for her. An enormous jump, that goes into sixth place ever in world

:09:29.:09:41.

indoor long jumping. Ivana Spanovic may have just jumped a gold medal

:09:42.:09:46.

leap in the second round. Is that too much to ask of Great Britain's

:09:47.:09:51.

Lorraine Ugen? What can she do to respond? That's a big effort too. I

:09:52.:09:59.

tell you what, that's a great response from Lorraine Ugen. It's

:10:00.:10:06.

not going to challenge the leads. 7.16. Ugen's lifetime best is 6.93.

:10:07.:10:17.

What a great responsive effort from Ugen. It is 6.97, a new national

:10:18.:10:24.

record and she goes into second place behind Ivana Spanovic.

:10:25.:10:36.

Robbie Grabarz we seem go clear at the height of two metres and 30

:10:37.:10:45.

centimetres. This is his third and final attempt to stay involved. That

:10:46.:10:55.

nearly stayed on for the young Belarussian Seliverstau. Three

:10:56.:11:00.

fouls. He was definitely down as someone to content the 20-year-old,

:11:01.:11:10.

2.30 his best this year. Goes out at the height of 2.30. They are falling

:11:11.:11:14.

like flies around Robbie Grabarz. It's over to Chesani bitterly. His

:11:15.:11:26.

team-mate got the better of Robbie Grabarz a year ago in the World

:11:27.:11:32.

Indoors. He isn't here, Chesani is. He carries two fouls at this height.

:11:33.:11:37.

But we seem Robbie Grabarz go clear at. Chesani, 2.30.

:11:38.:11:47.

Not good enough. Three fouls, so Robbie Grabarz with that failure is

:11:48.:11:55.

guaranteed a medal, in fact he's guaranteed a silver medal. Because

:11:56.:12:05.

it's only Robbie Grabarz and Bednarek who've gone clear now.

:12:06.:12:19.

Bednarek did go clear at 30. 2.30, that is. He did it at his second

:12:20.:12:24.

attempt. He trails Robbie Grabarz. The bar has been raised to 2.32. He

:12:25.:12:32.

has to go clear here to put the ball back in Robbie Grabarz's court. He

:12:33.:12:37.

does. What a competitive effort that is. From Bednarek. The 27-year-old

:12:38.:12:54.

Pole. Maybe puts a lot of pressure back on to Robbie Grabarz. It was

:12:55.:12:59.

all into control for the Brits until that clearance. This new heights,

:13:00.:13:05.

only Bednarek has gone clear. Robbie Grabarz yet to attempt. The Pole

:13:06.:13:16.

knows how important that was. One foul at 30 before a clear and a

:13:17.:13:20.

first-time clearance of 32. What can Robbie Grabarz do to respond? That's

:13:21.:13:30.

close. But... Well. All of a sudden, the pressure is on the Brits. A foul

:13:31.:13:44.

at 2.32 at the first time of asking means Bednarek is established in

:13:45.:13:49.

first place. It'll be interesting to see if Robbie has another go at that

:13:50.:13:53.

height because he knows, I think he's saying he's going to pass and

:13:54.:13:59.

go to the next height. Drama on the infield as we turn attention to the

:14:00.:14:01.

long jump, Jazmin Sawyers. She is in the second round. Fast on

:14:02.:14:19.

the approach as ever. Looked close on the board, though. That was a

:14:20.:14:25.

better jump, I think. It is a foul for Sawyers. Well, one more attempt

:14:26.:14:34.

at the moment. Jazmin Sawyers is in fifth place. Back to the high jump.

:14:35.:14:44.

Bednarek. 2.3 four. No, no. Close, he is in shape. A nod of the head

:14:45.:14:53.

from his coach, he is in the driving seat, is the Polish competitor. The

:14:54.:15:03.

best four Grabarz has been 2.30. We have just seen Bednarek foul and

:15:04.:15:08.

this is to put Grabarz back in front. Just decelerated onto that.

:15:09.:15:24.

Right then, round three of this thrilling long jump final. Ivana

:15:25.:15:28.

Spanovic is making the most of her home advantage, she is the indoor

:15:29.:15:34.

champion, a bit of pride there as well. Retaining it on home soil,

:15:35.:15:39.

what can she do in round three? It is another big effort. The white

:15:40.:15:45.

flag is raised, a big smile from Spanovic, she may even have extended

:15:46.:15:51.

that world leader Mark of 7.16 that she did in the second round. She

:15:52.:15:57.

knew she was on form in qualifying and really excel rates those last

:15:58.:16:02.

few strides onto the board. Gives her so much momentum and she times

:16:03.:16:08.

it well and drives hard. Clean on landing. Very accomplished long

:16:09.:16:16.

jumping. Taking a while to this one. Suspecting it is further. Serbia

:16:17.:16:21.

goes quiet in anticipation of what might be a very significant jump.

:16:22.:16:33.

Well, Spanovic, might be a technical problem, we might have to come back

:16:34.:16:38.

to you to let you know what the distance is for Spanovic, she is in

:16:39.:16:43.

the lead, but Robbie Grabarz finds himself under a little bit of

:16:44.:16:46.

pressure here in this high jump final. He has the silver medal. He

:16:47.:16:55.

has seen Bednarek have two fouls at this height. If he goes clear, he

:16:56.:17:00.

goes into the lead. He is in second place at the moment behind the

:17:01.:17:13.

Polish competitor. That was close. That was close. The noise from the

:17:14.:17:21.

crowd unfortunately was not for Robbie Grabarz today, it was for

:17:22.:17:28.

Spanovic, 7.24. Bednarek has his arms raised. He has one already.

:17:29.:17:36.

That was the third time failure for Robbie Grabarz. Last chance saloon,

:17:37.:17:47.

but he carried that foul from 2.32. His coach thought he had it. That

:17:48.:17:52.

was a good effort from Grabarz. Has to settle for second, a silver medal

:17:53.:18:01.

to add to his world indoor silver. All this happened simultaneously.

:18:02.:18:08.

This was happening on that jump. 7.24, just six centimetres behind

:18:09.:18:19.

the Championship records, 7.24, that lifts her up into fourth place on

:18:20.:18:29.

the all-time list. Wow! Lorraine Ugen, looking to respond. She is

:18:30.:18:36.

just rushing. It was a foul, a red flag. Absolutely huge efforts in the

:18:37.:18:48.

long jump. Spanovic on fire, 7.24. Brilliant stuff, Lorraine Ugen very

:18:49.:18:51.

much in silver medal place at the moment. What an incredible afternoon

:18:52.:18:57.

so far. Robbie Grabarz with a silver medal in the high jump there,

:18:58.:19:02.

Lorraine in silver medal position in the long jump and were two medals

:19:03.:19:07.

for Great Britain in the 3000 metres earlier on. We will come to Laura

:19:08.:19:18.

Muir in a moment, but first, hats off to Eilish McColgan. We were

:19:19.:19:22.

hoping for a gold medal and when we looked at the field, we wondered if

:19:23.:19:25.

there was a chance for Eilish McColgan. She admitted afterwards,

:19:26.:19:30.

she probably did not run the best race early on. She was waiting and

:19:31.:19:36.

was patient. She is not sure if they are going to announce this. Now, it

:19:37.:19:42.

is her moment to step up to receive her first senior medal. Her mother

:19:43.:19:51.

has never won a European end or a medal, so at least she has done

:19:52.:19:55.

something her mother had not. She won indoor medals at the World

:19:56.:19:59.

Championships, but this is her moment. She is in a rich vein of

:20:00.:20:07.

form at the moment. She will be back for the 5000 metres in the summer.

:20:08.:20:13.

But that turn of speed at the later stages, holding Costa who had tried

:20:14.:20:18.

to chase down at the top two and paid for that chase. Eilish

:20:19.:20:26.

McColgan. A brave performance from the European Cross country champion.

:20:27.:20:34.

Rewarded with a personal best. She has not really run much indoors at

:20:35.:20:38.

all. She took it out as hard as she could. Against anyone else, that

:20:39.:20:47.

would have caused some damage and put a lot of pressure, particularly

:20:48.:20:52.

someone who has already run three races this weekend. It all started

:20:53.:20:59.

on Friday morning for Laura Muir. 3000 metres hits. She went back

:21:00.:21:08.

later that afternoon in the 1500 metre heats and they came back last

:21:09.:21:12.

night and won the gold medal in a new Championship and British record

:21:13.:21:16.

in the 1500 metres and followed that up with a stunning performance over

:21:17.:21:22.

the 3000 metres, longer distance, with a new Championship record. Two

:21:23.:21:28.

gold medals, a unique double for Laura Muir because no one has done

:21:29.:21:32.

up with heats in both events. Simply superb.

:21:33.:21:46.

To British medals in the women's 3000 metres double pad their

:21:47.:22:27.

beginnings in the cross country schools athletics in Scotland. Hats

:22:28.:22:31.

off to Eilish McColgan and Laura Muir.

:22:32.:22:48.

Well, what can Jazmin Sawyers master. She has just heard the

:22:49.:22:55.

National Anthem, courtesy of Laura Muir, her team-mate. We are in round

:22:56.:23:00.

three of this spectacular long jump final. Sawyers. Hit the board well,

:23:01.:23:08.

I think. It is an improvement. Sawyers best so far, 6.47, a foul in

:23:09.:23:18.

the second round. 6.59 Ed is for Sawyers. That is an improvement

:23:19.:23:24.

taking her into fifth place. Perfect on the board. Drives hard, squeezes

:23:25.:23:32.

everything out of that. Very good jump indeed for Sawyers. 6.59, fifth

:23:33.:23:44.

place at the halfway stage. So, let's have a recount on the medal

:23:45.:23:49.

table, Great Britain are in second place and it goes on gold medals

:23:50.:23:55.

because the total, Poland are ahead, sorry, Poland are in the lead, Great

:23:56.:24:05.

Britain in second place,. Plenty more medals to come, because the 60

:24:06.:24:10.

metres women are out warming up on the track. Asha Philip going for

:24:11.:24:16.

Great Britain. It is really tight. There is very little to give you an

:24:17.:24:21.

indication of who to call on this. Completely, it could be a blanket

:24:22.:24:26.

finish but one thing is for sure, Asha Philip needs to raise her game

:24:27.:24:34.

and hopefully she will have seen and heard of Shelayna Oskan-Clarke

:24:35.:24:38.

snicking in a medal. She knows, she has been in the game a long time,

:24:39.:24:46.

she is very experienced. She is Olympic medallist. She knows what

:24:47.:24:50.

this means and she has got to stay focused and get out hard. It is a

:24:51.:24:55.

great atmosphere to be running in a final. It is a packed arena and they

:24:56.:25:03.

are here to see their heroine, Spanovic to produce the goods. She

:25:04.:25:07.

is not disappointing and you get the impression, the way these are

:25:08.:25:09.

British athletes are performing, that it is a disappointment not to

:25:10.:25:15.

get among the medals. There is a high level of expectation and that

:25:16.:25:21.

is great to see. We are into a new era of athletics, we were accused of

:25:22.:25:25.

not having the talent but it is there. It has been rich in talent,

:25:26.:25:30.

it is navigating how to deal with these stressful situations,

:25:31.:25:33.

competing at the highest level and accepting you have a place here if

:25:34.:25:41.

you just know how to compete and the girls are being ushered off to go

:25:42.:25:44.

and have their big introduction. You know how it goes. They disappear

:25:45.:25:48.

down the bank and then they brought out to the music and lights show and

:25:49.:25:52.

some of them seem to like it, some of them not so much. The long jump

:25:53.:26:00.

women kind of embraced the process. Lorraine Ugen did! You have got to

:26:01.:26:04.

be in the moment. The atmosphere was incredible. The men's heptathlon is

:26:05.:26:11.

also going on and also with Robbie Grabarz. He has just taken the

:26:12.:26:15.

silver in the high jump competition which was fantastic. He will be

:26:16.:26:20.

happy with that. Yes, I think so. I think Robbie, because he has been on

:26:21.:26:26.

the Olympic podium already, I think he needs to think about world high

:26:27.:26:30.

jumping and how he can make up that gap. We have seen a lot of 2.40

:26:31.:26:37.

jumpers come through and he has tried to address that gap. He gets

:26:38.:26:42.

himself into finals and always in a good position and has so many podium

:26:43.:26:48.

finishes, he is a great competitor and gets himself into the right

:26:49.:26:52.

position, makes sure he is with the highest jumpers at the end of the

:26:53.:26:56.

competition and gives himself a chance. Smiling there with his Union

:26:57.:27:03.

Jack. Here go, it is the last of the fast women, the 60-metre final and

:27:04.:27:10.

let's get you over to your commentator for this one. Andrew,

:27:11.:27:15.

you can enjoy the razzmatazz. I do. Let's do this. Build the suspense.

:27:16.:27:22.

The 19-year-old came in as one of the favourites but only scraped into

:27:23.:27:26.

the final as the second of the fastest losers, it is Swoboda. I

:27:27.:27:34.

think she has more to give. Alexandra Burghardt, one of three

:27:35.:27:39.

Germans in this final. Their strongest challenge will come from

:27:40.:27:41.

Rebekka Haase. This is Olesya Povh. She had

:27:42.:27:57.

possibly the best start of all, winner of this title six years ago.

:27:58.:28:07.

Very good starter in lane four, from Switzerland, Mujinga Kambundji.

:28:08.:28:19.

This is Rebekka Haase, blisteringly quick in the first round, 7.14, took

:28:20.:28:28.

three gold medals at the under 23 championships a few months ago. Asha

:28:29.:28:38.

Philip. She has probably had enough of finishing fourth in major

:28:39.:28:42.

championships. The world seniors, the world indoors, the Commonwealth

:28:43.:28:46.

Games, the European Championships last year, Kenji stepped up to win a

:28:47.:28:49.

medal as an individual? The 21-year-old won the French

:28:50.:28:57.

indoor title. There is a wonderful atmosphere

:28:58.:29:25.

inside the arena. Asha Philip has to be as composed as Richard Kilty was

:29:26.:29:31.

in the men's 60-metre final. Yes, fourth quickest coming into this of

:29:32.:29:35.

the qualifiers, but so close between the times of passing Povh. Asha

:29:36.:29:44.

Philip. Just the relays to come after this.

:29:45.:29:57.

And with all the drama, with the long jump and the high jump going

:29:58.:30:03.

on... There is an electricity around this venue. And we settle in now.

:30:04.:30:07.

Asha Philip in lane six. Called back. Called back, and for

:30:08.:30:35.

one of these women it may be over. Povh always get such a good start.

:30:36.:30:41.

Your eyes are automatically drawn to her to see how good has start is.

:30:42.:30:46.

I'm not sure that's not Asha Philip. I don't want to tempt fate.

:30:47.:30:57.

Actually, Swoboda in lane one... Asha Philip just outside a tenth of

:30:58.:31:01.

a second. Swoboda such a good starter as well but an illegal

:31:02.:31:14.

starter. I would say that was a very good start by Asha Philip. You can't

:31:15.:31:24.

get much better than that. Let's see what happens to Swoboda. Even though

:31:25.:31:28.

we've seen who's reacted clearly before the gun... It may be looking

:31:29.:31:33.

at the equipment and making sure when they make this decision that it

:31:34.:31:41.

is the right one. Belgrade 2017 is... Asha Philip got a great start

:31:42.:31:45.

there. It's all done on reaction times. Keeping an eye on Swoboda as

:31:46.:31:54.

well. This may be the walk to lane one. It's a yellow. That's a conduct

:31:55.:32:11.

warning. Look at Swoboda's reaction. She has counted all of her blessings

:32:12.:32:17.

and then more. A green technical card after a yellow for Kambundji.

:32:18.:32:34.

Asha Philip after registering 0.1... I'm not sure why Swoboda was spared

:32:35.:32:47.

on that occasion. All survive. The notes being sorely tested, the

:32:48.:32:51.

adrenaline coursing through the veins -- the nerves. The men's

:32:52.:33:01.

champion will be watching. Richard Kilty there. Asha Philip settles

:33:02.:33:07.

into lane six. Away cleanly this time. Asha Philip coming through

:33:08.:33:18.

now. It's Asha Philip on the line! What a performance, what a run, it

:33:19.:33:24.

is gold for Asha Philip! She has produced her very best for this

:33:25.:33:29.

occasion here in Belgrade, the champion of Europe indoors Asha

:33:30.:33:34.

Philip takes gold. What a run, what a run from Asha Philip. She's known

:33:35.:33:41.

as a great starter, but there she was a wonderful finisher and the

:33:42.:33:47.

gold medal is her rewards. It's a new British record for Asha Philip.

:33:48.:33:54.

Exploded out of the blocks, kept her cool. She knows there's a lot of

:33:55.:33:58.

talent and she wasn't coming into this vinyl as the clear favourite

:33:59.:34:04.

whatsoever. Her performance was absolutely outstanding -- this

:34:05.:34:09.

final. She said should have to go close to her personal best to win

:34:10.:34:13.

the gold medal. It's a big step to go from that. It's a performance for

:34:14.:34:21.

the big occasion, incredible. It is really incredible. She did need to

:34:22.:34:27.

set a personal best to take the title. She wanted it. She got up the

:34:28.:34:31.

blocks well but she could see, as she puts herself into that upright

:34:32.:34:36.

position and started to run, she was like, I'm up here and I'm not going

:34:37.:34:40.

to have these women still this title from me. She knows that Povh gets a

:34:41.:34:53.

good start. Out of her left thigh she could see Swoboda and Povh

:34:54.:34:57.

starting so well but didn't panic. Her head was down for at least 30

:34:58.:35:03.

metres, driving hard, working well. She looks really cool and calm and

:35:04.:35:08.

composed. She comes to the line she realises it's mine, and she dives

:35:09.:35:12.

for it. Big smile. Even though we could see clearly that she had the

:35:13.:35:19.

title, I'm not sure she really did. She just worked hard for the tape

:35:20.:35:23.

and dipped, phenomenal. Well done, new British record, Willie and

:35:24.:35:33.

performance. The record gone. The World Indoors in 2014, the

:35:34.:35:37.

Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the European Championships last

:35:38.:35:41.

year, we wondered if she could step up to take a medal, but it is gold.

:35:42.:35:46.

That was a big win in terms of distance. She dominated the field in

:35:47.:35:52.

the second half of the race. That time, 7.06 is world-class.

:35:53.:36:09.

STUDIO: Amazing, what a run. She had the perfect start and then the race

:36:10.:36:17.

was called back. You are thinking, can she produce a start like that

:36:18.:36:22.

again with nerves on the blocks but she got out again the second time

:36:23.:36:27.

with explosiveness. She drove it to the line, what a run. What a run. I

:36:28.:36:32.

can just about breathe. For me that is fantastic. She ran close to the

:36:33.:36:39.

perfect race, you could see the determination on her face. I can't

:36:40.:36:43.

begin to tell you how much that will mean to her. She was hoping that if

:36:44.:36:49.

she could rekindle some of her form from 2014 where she put down some

:36:50.:36:53.

good personal bests, here she is now with a new personal best which is

:36:54.:37:01.

fantastic. She had to run that kind of time because there was real

:37:02.:37:06.

symmetry there in the times and what they could do. We will hear from her

:37:07.:37:11.

shortly but we are going to hear right now from silver-medallist in

:37:12.:37:18.

the men's high jump, Robbie Grabarz. Robbie, I wonder when you were on

:37:19.:37:22.

your hospital bed six weeks ago if you ever imagined you would be in

:37:23.:37:26.

disposition and winning another metal. Ignorantly I did but

:37:27.:37:30.

realistically it was a challenge so I'm over the moon. A shame not to

:37:31.:37:37.

win, that's what I here to do. I was in the league until it really

:37:38.:37:40.

mattered. It was good fun and that's what the high jump is about. You

:37:41.:37:46.

were the first to go over and congratulate the winner of the

:37:47.:37:50.

competition. Tell me what it's like when you're in the heat of the

:37:51.:37:52.

moment and these guys going head-to-head. It's fun and the more

:37:53.:37:57.

you're into the competition, the more fun it gets. It's head-to-head

:37:58.:38:01.

but at the same time you're not trying to race each other, you're

:38:02.:38:05.

both trying to clear the same thing. You can really respect what the

:38:06.:38:14.

other guy is doing. Can you rise to the occasion and can you feed off

:38:15.:38:18.

that camaraderie? You seem so relaxed. I try and relax myself. It

:38:19.:38:24.

is fun and it's what I enjoy. You get yourself relaxed and in a good

:38:25.:38:28.

frame of mind and you can compete. That's what I love doing. How do you

:38:29.:38:33.

temper the disappointment it's not gold with a fine achievement it is a

:38:34.:38:42.

silver? We should keep inside it is a big achievement, Robbie. I do

:38:43.:38:53.

reward myself about but you can never ever congratulate yourself for

:38:54.:38:59.

second place but I'm proud of it. All the best, chairs.

:39:00.:39:06.

COMMENTATOR: Usain Bolt has done it! It's a new British record! A new

:39:07.:39:17.

world record! Sophie Hitchon, what an effort! Thompson has Olympic

:39:18.:39:27.

gold. A new British record! He's going to win the world title! A

:39:28.:39:34.

beautiful jump! Laura Muir, she has smashed the British record. Mo Farah

:39:35.:39:37.

wins the gold! STUDIO: This is the finale of the

:39:38.:39:49.

indoor season but all eyes are on the road to London and the World

:39:50.:39:53.

Championships, for the likes of Robbie Grabarz who has performed

:39:54.:39:56.

consistently well. You'll be looking at that has a big opportunity, as

:39:57.:40:00.

will Laura Muir who is in the form of her life and must be making some

:40:01.:40:04.

of the great runners in the world who are not here in these

:40:05.:40:07.

championships sit up and take notice. Whatever your route is to

:40:08.:40:14.

London, whether it's being here at the European indoors or waiting and

:40:15.:40:18.

focusing on the outdoors, it is about what happens in August that

:40:19.:40:24.

really counts. What a fantastic performance by her. She knows that

:40:25.:40:29.

world sprinting is a different level. What she's done today, that

:40:30.:40:35.

7.06 is getting had there. And actually if she can combine that

:40:36.:40:39.

60-metre power and strength she clearly has demonstrated today with

:40:40.:40:43.

that last 40 metres, she will get into those finals where she's been

:40:44.:40:49.

in the semifinals so many times. This is significant. Robbie Grabarz

:40:50.:40:55.

there with a hug. Let's get out there to the long jump competition.

:40:56.:41:13.

COMMENTATOR:, Spanovic, the world record is 7.37. Spanovic round four,

:41:14.:41:28.

in the lead. It's another big effort beyond seven metres. The white flag

:41:29.:41:33.

is raised. She is in incredible shape, as she alluded to in a press

:41:34.:41:40.

conference and then showed us yesterday in qualification. Two John

:41:41.:41:44.

is already beyond seven metres. The first was a foul but was probably

:41:45.:41:51.

the best of the lot. She jumped last week in this stadium to take the

:41:52.:41:57.

Serbian Championships indoors. Got a feel for the runway. 7.17. It would

:41:58.:42:06.

have been a world league if it wasn't for her second round jump.

:42:07.:42:15.

This happened just before that jump of Spanovic. Jazmin Sawyers best so

:42:16.:42:30.

far is 6.59. She will need a jump of 6.80 to get in the medals. That's a

:42:31.:42:37.

big effort. It's a foul. Unfortunately for Jazmin Sawyers,

:42:38.:42:44.

that was a big jump. Look at that. Just nicked the plasticine. But will

:42:45.:42:48.

give her confidence, she has two more efforts. Lorraine Ugen in the

:42:49.:42:58.

fourth round, also just a few moments ago. A big effort in round

:42:59.:43:08.

two of 6.97. That was a bigger foul. She knew she was taking chances

:43:09.:43:16.

there. Really running at it. A top too much ground, got on top of the

:43:17.:43:22.

board and that's what happens. She's in shape too. In second place at the

:43:23.:43:30.

moment. STUDIO: As soon as we got the schedule for these three days we

:43:31.:43:33.

knew that this afternoon and this evening with that long jump

:43:34.:43:37.

competition and Spanovic in the form she's in, it would be an electric

:43:38.:43:42.

atmosphere and a great competition. The series she has put together is

:43:43.:43:48.

sensational. Four jumps already over seven metres. It looks like she's

:43:49.:43:49.

going for the championship record. It would be phenomenal and what a

:43:50.:44:01.

place to do it, to have it in the record books in Belgrade would be a

:44:02.:44:06.

wonderful moment. The roof just might left and the crowd who are

:44:07.:44:09.

loving that long jump competition will be willing her on and all the

:44:10.:44:14.

performances here, the crowd have been fairer and have got behind all

:44:15.:44:20.

the athletes. A little bit partisan when we see a performance like that,

:44:21.:44:24.

from Asha Philip, not a surprise in that you do not expect to perform,

:44:25.:44:30.

but because there was no clear out and out favourite. It was a true

:44:31.:44:36.

race, wasn't it and we enjoyed the performance and I am sure Phil is

:44:37.:44:43.

telling her that right now. A delighted and patients Asha Philip.

:44:44.:44:53.

I am so happy. I was not doubting myself. I knew I had it in me. Every

:44:54.:45:00.

time I seem to get on the start line, I was hoping it would not

:45:01.:45:05.

happen in the final. I just said, I am going to go out here and do my

:45:06.:45:11.

best, and that is what I did. Tell me about the false start? It

:45:12.:45:16.

happened a couple of times. How nervous worry you? Because the start

:45:17.:45:25.

is my best pirate, having that, not the insured, every time I had

:45:26.:45:33.

around, it happened in my race. I told myself to stay calm. Once you

:45:34.:45:42.

realised you had won, what was that first emotion? I was lost for words.

:45:43.:45:49.

When I crossed the line, I could feel the girls on my left and I did

:45:50.:45:54.

not know what position I was. I said I would not believe it if they did

:45:55.:46:00.

not say my name. A national record, my new personal best, I am so happy.

:46:01.:46:06.

I miss my family so much. I am thankful for everyone who supported

:46:07.:46:13.

me. I want us to shout out for National Lottery as well. I cannot

:46:14.:46:21.

explain how happy am thankful I am, my family are my rocks, they have

:46:22.:46:32.

supported me. I love everyone. I could cry right now, but I'd do not

:46:33.:46:36.

want to cry on camera, you cannot cry pretty! It is like your Oscars

:46:37.:46:43.

speech moment. I know that you have won medals in the relay before,

:46:44.:46:48.

especially last year at the Olympics, but to do it as an

:46:49.:46:51.

individual, that has to be incredible. Every time I have been

:46:52.:47:00.

in the 60, I have made the final, but having the success with the

:47:01.:47:05.

girls in the relay, we work so well as a team, but to have my own

:47:06.:47:11.

successes even better. That one touch that we had, knowing that we

:47:12.:47:17.

had an Olympic medal, the level of female sprinting is through the

:47:18.:47:21.

roof, the support is getting bigger, going home with my own individual

:47:22.:47:27.

medal, I am really happy. I'm so happy right now. You deserve to be,

:47:28.:47:39.

congratulations. Thank you. Well, if you do not love Asha Philip, you

:47:40.:47:44.

have got a heart of stone. She is infectious, such a brilliant

:47:45.:47:49.

inspiration to kids watching, she loves her sport, she has been

:47:50.:47:54.

through the mill, she has had injuries, she was a trampoline is,

:47:55.:47:59.

she had an injury in athletics as well, she has had to come through so

:48:00.:48:03.

many different obstacles and has persisted and got that individual

:48:04.:48:07.

medal and she touched on what that Olympic relay medal did for her in

:48:08.:48:13.

terms of belief. It elevates you, keeps you going through these long

:48:14.:48:16.

winter months and remind you that you are good enough. You just heard

:48:17.:48:22.

from her, she is a drama student, I love that. She is a bright and

:48:23.:48:27.

bubbly character, great energy in the team. I just think this was

:48:28.:48:31.

significant, the time was significant and we will see more

:48:32.:48:38.

from her. Paula has joined us. We will see that move into the outdoor

:48:39.:48:42.

season as well, this performance, were she think she can win this.

:48:43.:48:48.

That is what she personifies, is that tactic that we need to take

:48:49.:48:52.

more of bringing youngsters here, letting them make the step up, it

:48:53.:48:56.

gives them a big boost going into the outdoor season. Let's see what

:48:57.:49:02.

Lorraine Ugen can do now. She is asking for support, she has seen the

:49:03.:49:11.

German go 6.34 behind her best jump so far. Brown five. It is another

:49:12.:49:20.

decent effort for Lorraine Ugen. Still in second place. So far, with

:49:21.:49:29.

one jump remaining after this one. Spanovic, dominant, the Serbian

:49:30.:49:36.

champion out in front, but Lorraine Ugen, holding onto silver medal

:49:37.:49:43.

place, six point 58, she stays in second place, with one jump

:49:44.:49:44.

remaining. So then, with one jump to close this

:49:45.:50:09.

fifth round, the penultimate round of the final, Ivana Spanovic has put

:50:10.:50:14.

together one of the greatest ever series in long jumping, a foul, and

:50:15.:50:20.

massive file in the first round, 7.16 in the second, 7.17 in the

:50:21.:50:26.

fourth, what can she do in the fifth round? It is a foul. The crowd

:50:27.:50:43.

buoying her, absolutely cheering her to go beyond the 7.24 she has done

:50:44.:50:51.

already. Stretch that a bit too much, a significant foul, but 7.24

:50:52.:50:56.

in the second round, further than what it took to win the Olympics

:50:57.:51:02.

last year. Spanovic had to sell for Braunston. This was her effort in

:51:03.:51:16.

round five that I mentioned, she knew that was good, until that

:51:17.:51:22.

point, her opener was the best, she is 30 years of age. She has some

:51:23.:51:31.

pedigree. Fifth at the world indoors a years back. 6.9 that was. I knew

:51:32.:51:41.

lifetime best means that Salman-Rath goes into third place. You feel

:51:42.:51:46.

there is potentially some drama left to unfold.

:51:47.:52:03.

We are in the final round. And it is Alexandra Wester from Germany, the

:52:04.:52:16.

22-year-old, our best so far of 6.53 in the previous round. That is a

:52:17.:52:21.

similar effort. She is in eighth place and I don't think she will

:52:22.:52:25.

improve on that, I think she knows it as well. Wester, 6.43, no

:52:26.:52:38.

improvement, 6.53 was her best. It will not challenge any of the places

:52:39.:52:43.

above her. They reversed the order in this round so as we go through

:52:44.:52:47.

the jumps, they are the positions they are currently in. So, Marina

:52:48.:52:57.

back of the Ukraine. Best so far of 659. A similar effort there. Same

:52:58.:53:08.

distance in fact as Jazmin Sawyers has Bekh but she has backed it up in

:53:09.:53:14.

round five, which means the Ukrainian goes ahead of Sawyers.

:53:15.:53:20.

Sawyers down into seventh place, Bekh is in sixth place. The

:53:21.:53:29.

22-year-old junior bronze-medallist of 2013, back in sixth place for

:53:30.:53:35.

that. 659, exactly the same distance as Jazmin Sawyers. Next up, it is

:53:36.:53:47.

the Estonian, Balta. She is in fifth place. Balta, 6.87 was her lifetime

:53:48.:54:05.

best. Previous champion in 2009, Balta, has had a taste of victory

:54:06.:54:10.

but that is a big ask on this occasion with the likes of Spanovic

:54:11.:54:16.

and that is a foul for Balta. Sixth in the Olympics last year. Sit here

:54:17.:54:22.

at the European Indoor Championships, as we move towards

:54:23.:54:31.

the business end. Could there be a reshuffle of the medals

:54:32.:54:46.

Spanovic a big come on from Jazmin Sawyers,, 6.84 would get her into

:54:47.:55:07.

she looks up for this, strides out hard. Good on the board, you could

:55:08.:55:23.

see those three lines the seven-metre mark. Spanovic, as she

:55:24.:55:35.

took off there, the undercarriage you could see the Sawyers got 6.67,

:55:36.:55:49.

what. She should not be The blanket ban for the Russians

:55:50.:56:46.

still stands. Look at that. Season's best. But no improvement. As to

:56:47.:56:49.

settle for just outside the medals. Salman-Rath takes to the runway. She

:56:50.:57:12.

has guaranteed herself a bronze medal. Can she improve? Explore 97

:57:13.:57:26.

possibly the target for Salman-Rath. Another big effort. Just shy of that

:57:27.:57:32.

line with the three. The bronze medal line. That is her own job.

:57:33.:57:38.

Well, the reaction I think she knows, she is happy with bronze.

:57:39.:57:44.

Salman-Rath of Germany, 30 years of age. She has been forth at world

:57:45.:57:51.

champion chips, fifth and indoor Championships and now she has some

:57:52.:57:56.

metalware. She is celebrating early. Has got the German flag already. Two

:57:57.:58:02.

very important jumps will remain. She will just settle a little bit

:58:03.:58:05.

and contain her excitement at taking a medal because

:58:06.:58:26.

we have Ugen. I wonder what she's thinking right now. When you know a

:58:27.:58:37.

jump of 7.24 stands in front of you and a gold medal. Guaranteed silver.

:58:38.:58:45.

Does she believe that is possible? I suppose you have got to. You have

:58:46.:58:53.

got to believe it unequivocally and I suspect there is an element of her

:58:54.:59:01.

who has two found on to the Serbian. Spanovic. Lorraine Ugen, national

:59:02.:59:11.

record. Four centimetres further than she jumped last year to take a

:59:12.:59:16.

bronze medal. She tore her hamstring after that. In Portland. And did not

:59:17.:59:23.

convert that kind of form into the outdoors. But looking as though she

:59:24.:59:27.

has got herself back in fantastic shape. Katarina Johnson-Thompson of

:59:28.:59:40.

course out nursing a hamstring. Lorraine Ugen waiting patiently.

:59:41.:59:56.

Toni on the track, you are level with the take-off board. What is

:59:57.:00:06.

your perspective? Basically what a fantastic competition. I do not know

:00:07.:00:13.

the last time we saw the European condition with this kind of

:00:14.:00:16.

distances. Some incredible jumping in this competition. That is Toni

:00:17.:00:25.

Minichiello, coach to Jessica Ennis-Hill. Now retired of course.

:00:26.:00:35.

Lorraine Ugen strides out in her last chance. It is a huge effort.

:00:36.:00:43.

Radford comes back. It was a big foul. CHEERING

:00:44.:00:50.

Well, Ugen, big smile on her face. That is the red flag. Only a

:00:51.:00:56.

marginal foul. I would love to have seen how far that was. Maybe alludes

:00:57.:01:00.

to the kind of form we might see outdoors but for now national

:01:01.:01:05.

record, silver medal and a brilliant performance from Lorraine Ugen. The

:01:06.:01:16.

stadium is full here in Belgrade. The Serbian capital. Spanovic

:01:17.:01:21.

assured of gold. Now, this is interesting. She knows she is in,

:01:22.:01:28.

well, incredible shape. Better than that, look at that series. The Brits

:01:29.:01:42.

embracing. But this is possibly a moment, an athlete who has hugely

:01:43.:01:48.

delivered, can she poll even more to impress the home crowd here? Last

:01:49.:01:58.

John. It is massive. She falls back. Into the sand. Well, it was a valid

:01:59.:02:07.

jump. Not sure it will be measured. If it is Iwobi from the back of her

:02:08.:02:09.

head. It doesn't matter. Ivanovic Spanovic in imperious form.

:02:10.:02:17.

Defending European champion. String of medals for the Brits here.

:02:18.:02:38.

How good is that last one, six .73? Minus your head. 7.24, the third

:02:39.:02:45.

best ever. Toni Minichiello, put that into context. Incredible

:02:46.:02:51.

jumping. 7.24, in front of her home crowd. She accelerates to the board,

:02:52.:03:00.

really pops off, incredible jumping. What did you make of the last effort

:03:01.:03:04.

from Lorraine Ugen? Phenomenal, just the smallest foul by Lorraine really

:03:05.:03:08.

stands up on the board, she puts out a straight leg and gets thrown into

:03:09.:03:15.

the sandpit. Rightfully deserving these young ladies getting a map of

:03:16.:03:18.

order. What a fantastic competition we have seen. -- lap of honour.

:03:19.:03:30.

Brilliant stuff, great scenes of joy from Lorraine Ugen. Injury last

:03:31.:03:39.

year. After brilliant form but what a performance. Like a single form

:03:40.:03:44.

would challenge for performance the championship. Other than what

:03:45.:03:50.

Spanovic has done across this long jump final. The best ever, 7.20

:03:51.:03:55.

four. She is incredible. -- STUDIO: It is tough when you have to

:03:56.:04:09.

deliver in front of a home crowd. We have seen it in recent Championships

:04:10.:04:13.

in the UK of course, the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. When you are

:04:14.:04:16.

the poster girl, there is a 60-metre host of her outside, she didn't just

:04:17.:04:21.

win that, she smashed it and obliteration of the she did.

:04:22.:04:27.

Pressure can be positive. The same with Jessica Ennis-Hill in London.

:04:28.:04:32.

It is still pressure. They loved, they use it. I have never seen long

:04:33.:04:40.

jumping quite like it. It was pretty impressive. But also Lorraine was

:04:41.:04:45.

sensational. To think we have three British girls getting the finals and

:04:46.:04:53.

capable of jumping over 6.90. Proctor of course not here, she has

:04:54.:04:58.

medal that the world champion chips, she can do it of course. Three of

:04:59.:05:00.

them looking to London to get into the final. This lady, Spanovic, will

:05:01.:05:05.

be looking to get to the top of the rostrum. She will have tough

:05:06.:05:09.

opposition from the Americans as we know, Paula, but a wonderful

:05:10.:05:12.

performance although I have to say when Steve said he cannot think of

:05:13.:05:15.

another performance of the accommodation, Paula said I can. She

:05:16.:05:19.

pointed to the lady next to her we will hear from in a minute because

:05:20.:05:24.

Laura Muir has joined us in the studio. But hats off that was

:05:25.:05:30.

incredible. That was amazing. I think they built on each other and

:05:31.:05:33.

got better performances out of each other but it is what these is

:05:34.:05:36.

saying, when you are in shape and you have the home crowd behind you

:05:37.:05:41.

it is only going to add to the performance. -- Denise. The problem

:05:42.:05:46.

comes when you are not in great shape but used to have the pressure.

:05:47.:05:50.

But when you come in here in shape. That is something we will talk to

:05:51.:05:54.

Laura Muir about in a moment with the watch every chips in London

:05:55.:05:57.

later this year. But right now let's take you back to yesterday, the

:05:58.:06:03.

start of the Gold rush for Laura. It was an incredible race. COMMENTATOR:

:06:04.:06:13.

The three best runners at the front, Laura Muir, making this a real test.

:06:14.:06:20.

Still building the pressure with 400 to go. On any other day you would

:06:21.:06:28.

not think Klosterhalfen could give her anything to worry about. Three

:06:29.:06:34.

are down to two, the talented German. She still has something left

:06:35.:06:42.

but Klosterhalfen would be the one most in the mould of Laura Muir, she

:06:43.:06:49.

has the strength and speed but she's not good enough to hang onto this.

:06:50.:06:55.

This is what we came to see. She is a class above everybody else. This

:06:56.:07:01.

is a display of distance running, a display of 1500 metre running that

:07:02.:07:06.

is at its very best. Laura Muir has waited for this moment for a few

:07:07.:07:12.

years now. That is that we saw at the world indoor Championships will

:07:13.:07:16.

be replaced by cheers as Laura Muir stretches away and comes to win the

:07:17.:07:23.

gold medal for Great Britain. European indoor champion and a new

:07:24.:07:34.

championship record. Six metres to go. Laura Muir, three laps of this

:07:35.:07:38.

track, where she has been since around the second or third lap. She

:07:39.:07:44.

has another look behind, I do not know what she was expecting but only

:07:45.:07:47.

one thing she will say is a very confident Laura Muir. They are

:07:48.:07:56.

waiting, Can might make one more big effort. I do not think Can has

:07:57.:08:00.

another big effort. I think the effort will come from Laura Muir

:08:01.:08:03.

when she feels the time is right. Maybe she is just looking up and

:08:04.:08:08.

seeing Maureen Koster is closing the gap much quicker than Steph Twell is

:08:09.:08:18.

overall to close the gap. Eilish: starting to make inroads. 300 metres

:08:19.:08:23.

left for Laura Muir and she is not hanging around. This is a chase

:08:24.:08:27.

against the clock. But how fast she is going. She still has a lap to go.

:08:28.:08:31.

I can tell you the championship record held by Fernanda Ribeiro is

:08:32.:08:42.

within reach, 8:39.49. The pace she is going, goodness me. Eilish

:08:43.:08:45.

McColgan has moved into fourth place. Nish McColgan chasing for

:08:46.:08:53.

bronze. But here is Laura Muir. Less than 100 metres to go. She already

:08:54.:08:56.

has one gold medal. She is storming away. An historic double of the

:08:57.:09:03.

European indoor champion chips. She now has two gold medals, she is the

:09:04.:09:09.

champion again and another record. Championship record has gone and

:09:10.:09:12.

Eilish McColgan is coming in for the gold medal. Can gets silver and

:09:13.:09:18.

Eilish McColgan with a superb last lap takes the bronze.

:09:19.:09:28.

You have done it, superb, well done. STUDIO: Incredible races and a

:09:29.:09:34.

brilliant performances from Laura Muir, she came into this

:09:35.:09:39.

championship with huge expectations and has delivered. We are delighted

:09:40.:09:43.

to say you have delivered yourself appear. The Portuguese at them in

:09:44.:09:46.

the background for the men's triple jump. -- anthem. You have had your

:09:47.:09:54.

moments on the rostrum. Tell me your overwhelming emotion. You came in

:09:55.:09:57.

with so much expectation. Nobody wanted to say you were a dead cert

:09:58.:10:02.

but there is always that possibility something goes wrong. It was my

:10:03.:10:07.

first time doubling up, 's races in three days. I did not know how my

:10:08.:10:11.

body would cope. Everybody talking about the double and I just hoped I

:10:12.:10:17.

would deliver. I am delighted. Relief? Definitely, after finishing

:10:18.:10:22.

today I thought thank goodness, that is it. Was it partly the exercise in

:10:23.:10:27.

doubling up with an eye on what is happening later in London? I have

:10:28.:10:32.

not done so many races back-to-back before. Considering the double in

:10:33.:10:37.

London we want to know if the body can handle it and test of the

:10:38.:10:40.

recovery strategies and see if there's anything we can change and

:10:41.:10:45.

improve. That would be the priority. It has all been about records so

:10:46.:10:49.

far, did you see the pressure that you did not want to just be smashing

:10:50.:10:54.

records but also winning medals. That is what they say, records are

:10:55.:10:57.

meant to be broken but the medals stay with you. It is great to be

:10:58.:11:02.

running fast but medals is what we are remembered for. I'm so pleased I

:11:03.:11:03.

have a couple. Hello, I there is so much more to

:11:04.:11:14.

come. Some of these records are very long-standing. The record she has

:11:15.:11:20.

just beaten, that stood for a long time. I don't know if you remember

:11:21.:11:27.

her, I remember her, that was a long time ago. That is important, that

:11:28.:11:36.

Laura is taking off records like that. We are campaigning to move

:11:37.:11:42.

forward and remove records of those who were caught cheating and replace

:11:43.:11:47.

them with good strong records. A lot of the commentators, alluded to the

:11:48.:11:52.

sessions that you do and say these are the kind of things that she will

:11:53.:11:58.

do. The people like me who do not do those sessions, just tell people the

:11:59.:12:02.

kind of session she have been doing and the kind of mileage you have

:12:03.:12:07.

been fitting end. I do not run as much mileage as some endurance

:12:08.:12:12.

athletes, but some of them are very high quality. We will do running for

:12:13.:12:23.

30 seconds, stop and then start, I am used to pushing my body. That has

:12:24.:12:29.

been the change that led to last year at the big breakthrough. It has

:12:30.:12:37.

not changed so much. Improving all the time. It is that building on it,

:12:38.:12:46.

it is the same session, but what Laura is seen is seen it builds up

:12:47.:12:52.

and seen the progression and those sessions, you're beating time and

:12:53.:12:55.

time again and that is giving her confidence. You will have time to

:12:56.:13:04.

think about it. I want to talk about small animals as well. There is

:13:05.:13:09.

Shelayne Oskan-Clarke who is about to get her silver medal. Steve Cram

:13:10.:13:14.

will talk you through the 800 metres medal ceremony. She has already

:13:15.:13:24.

received her bronze medal, but what a race we had between the two

:13:25.:13:28.

contenders here. Shelayne Oskan-Clarke getting the silver

:13:29.:13:33.

medal, losing out just by a shoulder. Great job from her, maybe

:13:34.:13:42.

a thought to her late coach, she is now coached by John Beggs and I am

:13:43.:13:48.

sure if he is looking down from somewhere on high, he will be very

:13:49.:13:55.

proud. She was so brave in terms of fighting all the way around, some

:13:56.:14:05.

elbows were flying between the two. But she held off Shelayne

:14:06.:14:10.

Oskan-Clarke, not only at the bell, but just on the line. Leaned across

:14:11.:14:17.

to make sure she defended her title. You have to really admire her

:14:18.:14:25.

fortitude as well. Came up as a national record, she ran a little

:14:26.:14:28.

bit quicker than the time she was given. That will not matter to her,

:14:29.:14:33.

she won the gold medal. That is twice now that Selina Buchel

:14:34.:15:38.

has won in a photo finish, she is pretty good at that, Shelayne

:15:39.:15:41.

Oskan-Clarke should be proud of her performance. The last time she was

:15:42.:15:45.

at these competitions she did not get out of the heats. Big

:15:46.:15:50.

improvement. She ran very well in real last year and she will be

:15:51.:15:53.

looking forward to later competitions. Well done to Shelayne

:15:54.:16:01.

Oskan-Clarke, but Steve, some blessed positive news is reaching

:16:02.:16:06.

us. Can you fill us in? Not long after that we had a great gold medal

:16:07.:16:11.

from Asha Philip and if you were watching, you may have seen, there

:16:12.:16:19.

were false starts. Asha Philip had a reaction of 1.102 and a conduct card

:16:20.:16:25.

came out to the Swiss athlete and we have just heard that the Swiss team

:16:26.:16:33.

have now put up road text in. Swoboda was third and Asha Philip

:16:34.:16:36.

won and they said that those athlete should have been disqualified. I do

:16:37.:16:40.

not think they are right and certainly they had a case against

:16:41.:16:48.

Swoboda. It did not look as though 38 did anything wrong. We can look

:16:49.:16:53.

at it. At the moment, I cannot see any reason why Asha Philip should be

:16:54.:17:00.

disqualified. She is in line six, Swoboda is on the far side and

:17:01.:17:07.

Mujinga Kambundji is on the far side. Mujinga Kambundji, if that was

:17:08.:17:11.

a conduct warning, it should have been before this point. I don't know

:17:12.:17:18.

why she received the yellow card. Swoboda was judged to have had the

:17:19.:17:21.

false start in lane one and back can only be something the starters would

:17:22.:17:24.

know from the reaction times that they get. No reason for me why Asha

:17:25.:17:30.

Philip would be disqualified. We will try and get more news on that

:17:31.:17:34.

but there is a protest in from the Swiss team. We will bring you any

:17:35.:17:39.

news on me get it. We are expecting that medal ceremony in the next 20

:17:40.:17:41.

minutes or so and they will not be able to do that until

:17:42.:17:58.

they clear this up. We will know something in the next half an hour

:17:59.:18:01.

or so and we will bring you any news. It has been an interesting few

:18:02.:18:04.

days in terms of starts. We did see that in the men's 1500, there was a

:18:05.:18:07.

false start. A faltering start. They can affect the longer distances but

:18:08.:18:10.

thankfully everything went OK for you Laura. Apollo was just asking

:18:11.:18:14.

whether or not that was a set plan now, doubling up in London. It is

:18:15.:18:23.

edging more towards yes than no. The results from the weekend show I am

:18:24.:18:28.

visibly able to do it. I am strong over the shorter and longer

:18:29.:18:32.

distances and running faster. I think we are edging towards things.

:18:33.:18:38.

Having the timetable usually works. How close she would have to do your

:18:39.:18:45.

heats? I am lucky, it works well. The 1500 is at the start of the

:18:46.:18:49.

programme, that this Friday Saturday and Monday and I will have some days

:18:50.:18:54.

of rest and then the Thursday to the Sunday. It is good for us, we get a

:18:55.:19:02.

lot of Laura! The reason I asked, because it has been said that the

:19:03.:19:05.

timetable does not work. She is going to go five K and ten K which

:19:06.:19:12.

leaves the 1500 metres. It would have been great to see Laura go up

:19:13.:19:17.

against terror and the terror. That would have been great, but it leaves

:19:18.:19:29.

the 15, left -- see Laura go up against her and beat her. We will

:19:30.:19:37.

need to see what happens. You're not running home, you are flying home.

:19:38.:19:44.

Tuesday, tell everyone what happens. Nine o'clock on Tuesday morning, I

:19:45.:19:50.

will be back on placement. You will be out there helping animals and in

:19:51.:19:53.

the evening doing these really impossible sessions on the track.

:19:54.:19:59.

That is the aim. He might give her an easy week this week! Of course in

:20:00.:20:07.

two years' time, this whole thing it moves to Glasgow and you are part of

:20:08.:20:12.

the handing over ceremony, they were handing over the flag an hour or so

:20:13.:20:17.

ago and a great moment, because for you, two years' time, who knows what

:20:18.:20:22.

form you will be in, the kind of records, what a wonderful thing to

:20:23.:20:28.

look forward to, and other home championships. I trained in the

:20:29.:20:33.

Glasgow venue a lot, it is my home town. It is perfect. I saw the

:20:34.:20:39.

reception that athletes got last year, it was brilliant, I think it

:20:40.:20:44.

will be a fantastic atmosphere. The question on the lips of a lot of

:20:45.:20:48.

people, we discussed it ourselves, can you really go back to full-time

:20:49.:20:53.

study after the kinds of experiences you are having now and in terms of

:20:54.:20:58.

the form that you are in? Is it compromising what you have achieved?

:20:59.:21:03.

That is what I am going to do. One week after London, I will be

:21:04.:21:07.

starting fifth year, that was the target. If I'm going to finish my

:21:08.:21:13.

studies, that is it. I am definitely doing it. We will be able to call

:21:14.:21:25.

you Doctor! Yes six what do you think has been the most significant

:21:26.:21:34.

turnaround in your performances? This new rich vein of form, I think

:21:35.:21:38.

is fantastic, the confidence you exude when you step onto the track.

:21:39.:21:44.

It has come from racing experience. I was training really hard and I

:21:45.:21:48.

progress so quickly and I did not have time to catch up mentally and

:21:49.:21:52.

tactics wise, I was running these fast times, but it is different when

:21:53.:21:56.

it is tactical races and I just need practice. I have learned new things

:21:57.:22:02.

and learned how I can run races and not run races. It is just practising

:22:03.:22:07.

again and again. It is maturity as well. Laura was brought through

:22:08.:22:14.

pretty late, to get involved and running the fast times is one thing,

:22:15.:22:18.

but it is learning to race and it is getting stronger. It is dealing with

:22:19.:22:26.

the pressure, I was so nervous. I did not deal with it very well. When

:22:27.:22:33.

I am more relaxed, I race better. The heptathlete are out now for

:22:34.:22:42.

their final event. It has been a stunning climax to the competition.

:22:43.:22:46.

Thank you so much for joining us, you have given us so much joy.

:22:47.:22:51.

Congratulations, keep it going. We're really excited to see what you

:22:52.:22:56.

can do this season. Thank you. Let's get back out there, it is the

:22:57.:23:03.

heptathlon and it is the 1000 metres. I will do my best. I will

:23:04.:23:14.

show you the standings. Kevin Mayer is the outstanding man. He is

:23:15.:23:19.

untouchable here. Look out for the Serbian, Mihail Dudas, he might be

:23:20.:23:25.

able to overhaul the Czech competitor who is in the bronze

:23:26.:23:31.

medal position. Ashley Bryant suffered in the pole vault and Liam

:23:32.:23:35.

Ramsey as well, they both struggled in the pole vault and tumbled down

:23:36.:23:40.

the leaderboard. They are in tenth and 14th position. Kevin Mayer,

:23:41.:23:46.

great pride for leading the team Ashley Bryant, but for a while, the

:23:47.:23:57.

pole vault has been his weakness. It was 4.50 in the pole vault and 4.204

:23:58.:24:02.

Liam Ramsey but there is Kevin Mayer.

:24:03.:24:12.

Kevin Mayer leads by a distance, he will not be caught Bahrain a

:24:13.:24:19.

miracle. He is chasing the European record and he should get those

:24:20.:24:25.

records. He will just fall short of the world record. In silver medal

:24:26.:24:34.

position, it is Jorge Urena. He is ahead of 24, he is keen to hold onto

:24:35.:24:41.

the bronze medal position -- Adam Sebastian Helcelet. Most of the

:24:42.:24:44.

crowd here will be willing Mihail Dudas to hunt him down.

:24:45.:24:54.

He is the Serbian record-holder. He needs to beat Adam Sebastian

:24:55.:25:02.

Helcelet by about 4.7 seconds. His personal best is about three seconds

:25:03.:25:07.

quicker. With home support, the hope is he could find that. Adam

:25:08.:25:11.

Sebastian Helcelet will try and keep Mihail Dudas in his sights. Ashley

:25:12.:25:17.

Bryant and Liam Ramsay at the bottom of the picture, looking for a

:25:18.:25:22.

personal best year to finish on a high, but Kevin Mayer who is an

:25:23.:25:27.

outstanding 1,000-metre runner is looking for a time to take this. He

:25:28.:25:32.

will surely take the gold. Mihail Dudas in front of him at the moment.

:25:33.:25:37.

Adam Sebastian Helcelet, in the red vest behind, he is trying to keep

:25:38.:25:42.

Mihail Dudas in his sights, Adam Sebastian Helcelet is in a bronze

:25:43.:25:47.

position. Kevin Mayer, he is a 2.37 runner, would need to run about 2.26

:25:48.:25:55.

to get the record. He needs 2.4 for only for the European record. Kevin

:25:56.:25:59.

Mayer, it should be a glorious few laps of honour and it should be a

:26:00.:26:01.

record. It should indeed. Both those records are in threat by

:26:02.:26:18.

Kevin Mayer, he is a superb athlete but the big cheers are for this

:26:19.:26:23.

band, the Serbian, Mihail Dudas, moving ahead of Ashley Bryant. The

:26:24.:26:29.

Big men are suffering, this is torture for a big powerful athletes,

:26:30.:26:33.

they are beginning to string out, as they lap the five maps of the 1000

:26:34.:26:39.

metres. The final event out of seven. Ashley Bryant had a couple of

:26:40.:26:44.

difficult days, it has slipped through his fingers. Kevin Mayer

:26:45.:26:46.

looking comfortable. He knows the gold medal

:26:47.:27:00.

is his. He looks determined, may be in hunt of those titles, but the

:27:01.:27:02.

Championship record and the European record are in his sights. The German

:27:03.:27:09.

is out in front. He is in 12 place, so they will ignore him. Mihail

:27:10.:27:18.

Dudas has to beat Adam Sebastian Helcelet by almost five seconds.

:27:19.:27:20.

Adam Sebastian Helcelet looks like he is right at the back. Brugger out

:27:21.:27:29.

in front. Ashley Bryant going well. Kevin Mayer is in sixth place but

:27:30.:27:33.

Adam Sebastian Helcelet is coming through. He looks to be about four

:27:34.:27:40.

seconds behind. Mihail Dudas is striving on. Brugger out in front.

:27:41.:27:49.

Lifted by this crowd, looking for a bronze medal, Mayer going for the

:27:50.:27:52.

gold and the record, the Championship record. Mihail Dudas!

:27:53.:28:05.

What a sorry end for Mihail Dudas. Mayer is the champion. He will have

:28:06.:28:08.

the Championship record and the European record but what happened to

:28:09.:28:23.

Mihail Dudas? 2.41 432 macro. -- 2.41 four Mayer.

:28:24.:28:28.

He will consult the man who in front of his home crowd, had it all, the

:28:29.:28:34.

bronze medal was there for him and it all fell away in such a dramatic

:28:35.:28:43.

finish for Mihail Dudas. Mayer was always going to get the gold medal

:28:44.:28:48.

but in terms of sporting drama, all the drama was caused by Mihail

:28:49.:28:55.

Dudas. What drama there, disappointment for the Serbian,

:28:56.:29:00.

athletes talk about giving it their all, you cannot accuse him of giving

:29:01.:29:07.

anything less. There is a lot of attention on him. Look at this. He

:29:08.:29:11.

comes down the home straight, 40 metres left but he cannot stay on

:29:12.:29:13.

his feet. fast and powerful men get tired more

:29:14.:29:23.

quickly, the lactic acid flowing through the big muscles. They are

:29:24.:29:28.

not made for this endurance. We saw this happening to Sprunger. Giving

:29:29.:29:33.

everything in front of the home crowd. His mind wanted it and asked

:29:34.:29:37.

more than his body could give because this is lactic flooding the

:29:38.:29:42.

lakes and suddenly Bambi, nothing there. You have been there in the

:29:43.:29:49.

park. You have visited that place. Not so much at stake. But it is

:29:50.:29:52.

painful to watch because there is absolutely nothing you can do. The

:29:53.:30:00.

Moore has two settle outside the medals but no doubt about the

:30:01.:30:06.

champion, Kevin Meyer, new European indoor record, championship record

:30:07.:30:18.

head of great records. Kevin Meyer of France. Paul Mihail Dudas.

:30:19.:30:29.

Nothing more to give around the final bend. About four seconds

:30:30.:30:45.

clear. Those records you talk about, Mihail Dudas says I give you

:30:46.:30:52.

everything. Do not have given any more. It wasn't to be. Kevin Mayer

:30:53.:30:59.

is the man now. Ashton Ethan is gone and he will be the man to chase at

:31:00.:31:12.

the World Championships the silver medal and the bronze.

:31:13.:31:50.

That was the incredibly dramatic end to the heptathlon. While we are

:31:51.:32:02.

looking at those placings. Tough event. Having one or two technical

:32:03.:32:11.

problems here in the stadium. While you are. Some further news. On the

:32:12.:32:17.

protest for Asha Phillip. It is good news. This in a protest about the

:32:18.:32:24.

60-metre final. Asha Phillip confirmed as gold-medallist. At the

:32:25.:32:31.

moment the only protest remains against the third-place, the Swiss

:32:32.:32:43.

athlete who finished fourth. The good news is Asha Phillip has

:32:44.:32:46.

definitely retained in the gold medal position. We are expecting her

:32:47.:32:50.

to be coming out for the medal ceremony very shortly. And lasting

:32:51.:32:55.

worth it be presenting those medals. The heptathlete just about finishing

:32:56.:33:03.

their lap of honour. Couple of relays to look forward to. The women

:33:04.:33:12.

is still to come. Great Britain and Northern Ireland do not have the

:33:13.:33:15.

team in the men's. Wonderful athlete by Kevin Mayer. Well deserved lap of

:33:16.:33:28.

honour. Drama for Mihail Dudas, tying up and unable to overhaul the

:33:29.:33:31.

bronze model. It has been a wonderful final day, good crowds.

:33:32.:33:36.

Rather sparsely populated on the first day but the final day has

:33:37.:33:40.

lived in terms of atmosphere and in terms of drama. Wasn't too dramatic

:33:41.:33:48.

men's eight-metre final, unlike the women's. Because of the protest in

:33:49.:33:54.

the 60 metres that has been delayed a bit of it. The men's 800 metres up

:33:55.:34:03.

next. I suppose in any championships there are red-hot favourites, Laura

:34:04.:34:06.

Muir is certainly one of them. Probably in the men's 800 metres

:34:07.:34:13.

another red-hot favourite was at the shop. He certainly delivered in fine

:34:14.:34:25.

style. -- Adam Kszczot stop three Spaniards in the race, a Spanish

:34:26.:34:29.

friend of mine bought Kevin Lopez might be the main contender. Paul

:34:30.:34:34.

and I both agreed it looked good in the semifinals. It was the new

:34:35.:34:43.

Spaniard if you like, de Arriba, who had finished second to La Paz in the

:34:44.:34:46.

national Championship, who came through strongly in the end and

:34:47.:34:50.

managed to take bronze. Salchow, former European indoor champion.

:34:51.:34:58.

Back in 1977 in San Sebastian, only 40 years ago... It seems like

:34:59.:35:11.

yesterday. Not. Ran in San Juan last week, 10 km in under 15 minutes.

:35:12.:35:19.

Still got it. Alvaro Quiros either, the time is not really important. It

:35:20.:35:23.

was a bit of a messy race. Bit of a sandwich.

:35:24.:35:41.

He managed to squeeze through for the bronze medal. Spain and Poland

:35:42.:35:48.

both have a good record in this event. Nice to see Denmark getting

:35:49.:35:58.

on the rostrum. That famous day Wilson Kipketer, the Kenyan who

:35:59.:36:09.

turned the initial course. Andries Bube giving them a welcome medal.

:36:10.:36:17.

Kszczot was able to respond. Great Britain on this three times in a

:36:18.:36:21.

row, David Sharp followed by Steve Heard and Tom McKean. That is what

:36:22.:36:27.

has happened just recently with Poland, Kszczot Lewandowski, now for

:36:28.:36:34.

in a row as Kszczot has done this three times and Lewandowski once.

:36:35.:36:39.

Poland ruling the roost in the men's 800 metres indoors. The winning time

:36:40.:36:49.

was a little bit irrelevant. Probably not a memorable race for

:36:50.:36:53.

most but I'm sure for Adam Kszczot, he will be as proud as for any of

:36:54.:36:57.

his other achievements. Well, Kszczot, that was nice, for

:36:58.:38:02.

all three of them to be standing on the winner 's podium. Normally they

:38:03.:38:06.

gave afterwards. But they jumped up there. While the anthems were

:38:07.:38:12.

playing. The medal ceremony now being followed we think pretty soon

:38:13.:38:18.

by the women's 60 metres. We are still waiting for the job of to is

:38:19.:38:23.

that Asha Phillip is definitely on the gold medal in that. I'm pleased

:38:24.:38:26.

about that because that helps me with my five gold medal elections.

:38:27.:38:35.

Only the 4x4 races to come. No men's team of course but very hopeful we

:38:36.:38:41.

can do well in the women's 4x400m. Four some Mihail Dudas news, he has

:38:42.:38:47.

been disqualified. We thought he might have stepped out of the track.

:38:48.:38:52.

As he was floundering. So not even fourth place. Not sure he will be

:38:53.:38:56.

concerned about that. It was all about trying to get the bronze medal

:38:57.:39:01.

but disqualified, Mihail Dudas. Sad end to the men's heptathlon for

:39:02.:39:07.

Mihail Dudas. It was one in such fine style by Kevin Mayer. Not far

:39:08.:39:14.

away now from the metal assembly for Asha Phillip in the women's 60

:39:15.:39:22.

metres. And a reminder of some of the moments of these championships.

:39:23.:39:30.

They have been pretty successful. Sometimes the event is another

:39:31.:39:34.

strong and European indoors, some of the major athletes sometimes stay

:39:35.:39:39.

away and concentrate elsewhere. Today we have seen some athletics of

:39:40.:39:43.

the very highest calibre. Some great performances and good noise inside

:39:44.:39:49.

the stadium. Richly entertaining. Some highlights of what has been an

:39:50.:39:52.

incredible day and a great for Great Britain as well. We could end up

:39:53.:39:58.

with seven medals today. One more opportunity to come in the 4x400m as

:39:59.:40:07.

we said. But now it is going to be the high jump medals ceremony,

:40:08.:40:14.

Steve. Bobby Grabarz was so close. Really close. He was very much in

:40:15.:40:20.

control of the competition in the early stages. But had to settle for

:40:21.:40:29.

second best when it came to the sort of business end of the competition

:40:30.:40:37.

because Bednarek was really good when it mattered. He came in as a

:40:38.:40:47.

2.33 man, not great fun from champs. Surprised bronze-medallist in 2009

:40:48.:40:53.

but no real pressure to dog of. The three medallists introduced to the

:40:54.:41:03.

crowd. Pretty entertaining session it has to be said.

:41:04.:41:24.

The bronze-medallist being introduced, Seliverstau now. Very

:41:25.:41:41.

popular man, I came through the junior ranks with him, seems like

:41:42.:41:46.

only yesterday... Very smart. Natty bowtie and pocket square, Asian.

:41:47.:41:56.

Seliverstau now of the Belarus, very impressive indeed. -- combination.

:41:57.:42:05.

Just 20 years of age. On the lookout in the future. Dramatic event as we

:42:06.:42:14.

saw today. Next up with his Robbie Grabarz to be introduced for his

:42:15.:42:27.

silver medal. Well, he looked pleased when he walked through the

:42:28.:42:31.

mixed zone, he had a smile and a quick chat with Phil Jones. He

:42:32.:42:35.

seemed pretty pleased, reflective, he had an appendage removed just six

:42:36.:42:40.

weeks ago and now he is stored on the rostrum at the major

:42:41.:42:42.

championships. That shows what is made of. He loves the pressure,

:42:43.:42:52.

responded well to it. The champion of the men's high jump. And the

:42:53.:43:06.

biggest cheer for the champion from Poland, he looked under pressure, so

:43:07.:43:13.

much action as happened is that he clattered into the bar. We thought

:43:14.:43:18.

maybe it had unravelled for him but he composed himself well, first-time

:43:19.:43:26.

clearance at the 2.32 was enough to take gold. Big smile from Bednarek

:43:27.:43:31.

and the Polish national anthem. The chair for the medallists. Had to

:43:32.:44:26.

lick his wounds through the autumn training after not qualifying in the

:44:27.:44:28.

16. Outdoor champion for a few years

:44:29.:44:44.

back. Another medal for Great Britain, for Robbie Grabarz.

:44:45.:45:02.

It is the women's 4x400 metres coming out, we will join that in a

:45:03.:45:13.

second. Lord Coe has joined us. Your thoughts on the whole thing. On two

:45:14.:45:19.

counts it has been fantastic. We have had more people here than ever

:45:20.:45:26.

before. There is clearly a good appetite for the sport, particularly

:45:27.:45:31.

in doors, and you cannot pick fault with the British performance. It is

:45:32.:45:37.

early season, it is a fabulous platform for London. Some fresh

:45:38.:45:44.

faces, new winners emerging. A few of them will be running in the relay

:45:45.:45:50.

in just a moment. We will talk to you a lot more but we need to get on

:45:51.:45:54.

with the action, running a little bit behind, the schedule has been

:45:55.:45:59.

delayed for various reasons. We will join Steve Cram who will talk you

:46:00.:46:05.

through. You just saw the Polish Quartet, they will be a big threat,

:46:06.:46:11.

so will France, Italy not so much, Great Britain weakened by the fact

:46:12.:46:18.

that 46 macro cannot compete. They will do a little tribute to her --

:46:19.:46:30.

Lina Nielsen. That is to their team made in respect of her not been able

:46:31.:46:36.

to compete with an injury. Syllable Lowell comes in. She has to try and

:46:37.:46:48.

help along with 54 macro to content for this medal. What sort of metal?

:46:49.:47:03.

That remains to be seen. Experience counts on the first leg. Phillipa

:47:04.:47:07.

Lowe run well at the British Championships, was not far behind

:47:08.:47:13.

the Nielsens. Mary Iheke will go on the third leg, she is a training

:47:14.:47:20.

partner of the two Nielsens. Maybe that will give her a bit of

:47:21.:47:23.

confidence that she will be handing over to a training partner, Laviai

:47:24.:47:29.

Nielsen who just missed out on an individual medal. Where are the

:47:30.:47:34.

dangers? They will come from France. France have got the gold-medallist

:47:35.:47:46.

28 on the final leg and also Poland -- Floria Guei. Justyna Swiety is on

:47:47.:47:55.

the last leg for Poland. We expect Nielsen, Justyna Swiety and Floria

:47:56.:48:03.

Guei to be close together. That is on the last leg. She was so

:48:04.:48:11.

disappointed not to make it through to the individual final and

:48:12.:48:14.

therefore will be full of determination to get her team off to

:48:15.:48:22.

a good start. This is a little bit similar to 2015, a weakened team,

:48:23.:48:33.

and they ran about 3.31. That will maybe be around the run this time.

:48:34.:48:38.

It could be good enough to win a gold medal. Our best team in doors

:48:39.:48:47.

ever was in 2013 where Eilidh Doyle did lead the team, but she had

:48:48.:48:55.

different runners. That was still a British record in doors.

:48:56.:48:59.

It is going to be exciting, a final chance for Great Britain, no men's

:49:00.:49:09.

team, of course, let us see if we are expecting a bit of drama. France

:49:10.:49:14.

with Floria Guei, they want to be in touch, for her, a great relay

:49:15.:49:22.

runner, a consistent and strong quartet. No witnesses. Those are the

:49:23.:49:29.

three main contenders. Ukraine are often strong, Germany, you cannot

:49:30.:49:35.

count them out with the likes of 68. Poland have a great strength across

:49:36.:49:40.

the quartet. I think if France can get Floria Guei in any sort of

:49:41.:49:44.

position, it is there a gold medal -- Ruth Sophia Spelmeyer. They will

:49:45.:49:50.

still have hopes that they can hang on to the three others, Great

:49:51.:49:58.

Britain, with one or two, I guess nervous, Mary looks nervous, but

:49:59.:50:03.

Laviai Nielsen sitting at the back on the fourth and looks a picture of

:50:04.:50:10.

concentration. A little raise of the eyebrows. Floria Guei to her right.

:50:11.:50:19.

Philippa Lowe closest to the camera there on the second leg and she

:50:20.:50:23.

looks ready to go. If Eilidh Doyle comes in on the lead here as she has

:50:24.:50:28.

every opportunity of doing so, I think she will be ahead of Sananes

:50:29.:50:33.

and Ruth Sophia Spelmeyer of Germany. I expect Great Britain to

:50:34.:50:39.

be leading on the first leg. There is that impetus, that drive for

:50:40.:50:44.

Eilidh Doyle, of just been so disappointed after the individual

:50:45.:50:55.

work she tried to keep pace. Starters are in a game. He will tell

:50:56.:51:01.

the athletes to go and relax and do a couple of strides, because we have

:51:02.:51:04.

a problem again, Houston. OK, while we are waiting for this to

:51:05.:51:18.

sort itself out, it gives us a good opportunity to hear from the new

:51:19.:51:24.

record-holder in the long jump and silver-medallist, Lorraine Ugen. We

:51:25.:51:28.

caught up with her after her performance. Congratulations,

:51:29.:51:31.

another medal to add to your collection and you nailed it from

:51:32.:51:35.

the start. I knew I had to come out here and give it one of the best

:51:36.:51:39.

chance of my life. I knew it would be tricky to compete with span of

:51:40.:51:45.

edge and I tried to nail it. We saw how relaxed you work, you were

:51:46.:51:48.

playing to the cameras, how much did you enjoy it? Normally when they do

:51:49.:51:54.

stuff like that, I enjoy it, I know some people can be stiff but I like

:51:55.:51:57.

to have fun with it and do something silly. We talked about what it might

:51:58.:52:03.

be like, did it live up to expectations? It was crazy. The

:52:04.:52:07.

crowd was going crazy when she was jumping, which reminds me, guys,

:52:08.:52:12.

London, the World Championships this summer, make sure you are there so

:52:13.:52:15.

we can have the home-court advantage. They have seen what it

:52:16.:52:20.

can do, it catapulted you to a huge personal best. You did that yourself

:52:21.:52:24.

today, you were inspired by the crowd and a new national record. I

:52:25.:52:29.

am happy to follow that up with another national record and I am

:52:30.:52:33.

hoping to have many more big jumps in the outdoor season. Well done,

:52:34.:52:37.

enjoy the moment, you have been a big part of it. Well done. Thank

:52:38.:52:43.

you. She is a great competitor, she pulls out the big jumps on the big

:52:44.:52:46.

stage and she is turning into someone you have to keep your eye on

:52:47.:52:51.

with the World Championships coming up. Absolutely. You have Katarina

:52:52.:53:03.

Johnson-Thompson, and Shara Proctor, a fantastic vein of form for British

:53:04.:53:07.

jumping but top of that is definitely Lorraine, she has been

:53:08.:53:13.

superb. It is pertinent, as we sit here waiting for this relay to go

:53:14.:53:18.

off, that if there is a criticism of the last few days, the timekeeping,

:53:19.:53:23.

ironically, has not been very good, has it? It has not been perfect. I

:53:24.:53:29.

know from the broadcasters, they have been struggling a bit and I was

:53:30.:53:34.

doing a medal ceremony which was about 15 minutes late. There have

:53:35.:53:39.

been quite a few appeals and clearly the technology in the sprints has

:53:40.:53:46.

been a bit of a problem. Especially the woman's 60 hurdles, it seems to

:53:47.:53:50.

be lanes one and eight causing the problems. Do we have any idea why

:53:51.:53:55.

that is? We have heard all kinds of theories. You will probably get a

:53:56.:53:58.

better answer from the European guys then you will out of me on this one.

:53:59.:54:03.

I do not know. There is clearly an issue. We do not know when this will

:54:04.:54:08.

go off, I wanted the opportunity to chat to you about the bigger

:54:09.:54:11.

picture, one of the things we have not heard a lot about, the guys

:54:12.:54:15.

mentioned it in commentary, but you can explain more, you are pleased

:54:16.:54:19.

that we have sorted out the nationality issue and the process

:54:20.:54:23.

going forward, explain what the issue is. In simple terms it is

:54:24.:54:27.

transfer of allegiance and I have been struck over the years of

:54:28.:54:32.

watching a lot of athletics, a lot of cross country, but I am watching

:54:33.:54:35.

teams who do not start the season with the same athletes that they are

:54:36.:54:39.

ending the season with. I went to the world Cross country

:54:40.:54:43.

Championships, sort of celebrated on the podium with one team that had

:54:44.:54:50.

borne the women's and men's events, got bronze medals in both events and

:54:51.:54:54.

was not a single athlete from that country in that team. I have got

:54:55.:54:57.

Federation President is telling me they wake up some mornings to an

:54:58.:55:02.

e-mail with a list of athletes that are basically up for sale. This is

:55:03.:55:07.

no way to create... What have you done? We have frozen all transfers

:55:08.:55:13.

of allegiance, that is what it is cold and in simple terms, we will

:55:14.:55:16.

come back with a set of proposals by the end of the year and until those

:55:17.:55:21.

proposals are in place and they are workable and we have rewritten the

:55:22.:55:25.

rules around it, there will be no more changes between now and the end

:55:26.:55:29.

of the season and in the lead up to the last Olympics, we were

:55:30.:55:34.

confronted by about 30 transfer of allegiance requests in the couple of

:55:35.:55:45.

weeks leading up to the Championship. You had to make

:55:46.:55:47.

constitutional changes. No, actually the constitutional changes we got

:55:48.:55:49.

through in December and the workaround that now is underway.

:55:50.:55:51.

This was something I felt strongly about, it did not need a

:55:52.:55:53.

constitutional change, I drove it through the council and my council

:55:54.:55:58.

colleagues agreed to support it. We are just hearing an update that it

:55:59.:56:03.

is the starters gun and microphone that are broken. You could not make

:56:04.:56:08.

this up, for the penultimate race of this Championship. It is not great

:56:09.:56:12.

for the TV audience at home waiting for this and it is not great for the

:56:13.:56:16.

athletes who are out there waiting to run. I am amazed they do not have

:56:17.:56:29.

a replacement or a one waiting in the wings. We have reserves for the

:56:30.:56:31.

teams. They might have dropped it in that 1500 run. There was definitely

:56:32.:56:34.

something going on there. Maybe they have already used their back-up. It

:56:35.:56:39.

is not good enough. It has been very shoddy and I think it is unfair for

:56:40.:56:44.

the athletes who have prepared, they have got their warm up times and

:56:45.:56:48.

they are mentally in the zone and they are having to pause. I think

:56:49.:56:52.

the other issue in the sprint, if you have a false start in a 3000,

:56:53.:56:57.

with all due respect, you're not eating into too many systems, I have

:56:58.:57:02.

noticed that some of the sprinters have been 30 paces down the track

:57:03.:57:06.

when the recall gun has gone and that does eat into

:57:07.:57:22.

acceleration and impact on the second run. We have some white smoke

:57:23.:57:26.

coming from the news from the starters area. We have got a new

:57:27.:57:29.

garden and it looks like it is being wired up. I would say that is a

:57:30.:57:32.

positive side to see. Is that positive enough? They are straight

:57:33.:57:34.

on their marks. It has been a long wait for these athletes and let us

:57:35.:57:38.

hope that the gun works. I did have a whistle, we could have done it the

:57:39.:57:44.

old-fashioned way. Here we go. Great Britain in lane five, Eilidh Doyle

:57:45.:57:49.

leading them off. France in lane two. Poland in lane three, Italy and

:57:50.:57:53.

four and Ukraine in sex and Germany on the in in lane one. Eilidh Doyle

:57:54.:57:59.

has gone quickly, she will want to dominate in this first 200m, it is

:58:00.:58:05.

two lapse from each of the athletes who will break after the second bend

:58:06.:58:08.

and Eilidh Doyle will come across in the lead with Poland chasing and

:58:09.:58:14.

Poland have kept their better athletes on the second and fourth

:58:15.:58:19.

leg. Britain have gone for the first leg and the fourth leg. Eilidh Doyle

:58:20.:58:22.

has to stay out in front and keep the lead and Philippa Lowe will be

:58:23.:58:32.

chased down. As you expect, it is a strong start from Eilidh Doyle and

:58:33.:58:37.

look at the gap she has a of Poland. Perhaps there are strongest runner

:58:38.:58:44.

is to come. Ukraine in a strong position with 55-macro taking it

:58:45.:58:45.

over. Ukraine and Poland and France

:58:46.:59:00.

chasing. They are looking to get Floria Guei in Zeeshan on the anchor

:59:01.:59:09.

leg. They are closing in. -- in position. Philippa did well to go

:59:10.:59:15.

out hard. You expect that hopefully she can respond and go away again

:59:16.:59:18.

and that is exactly what she's doing. She is going to hand over to

:59:19.:59:27.

Mary Iheke on the final leg. Philippa Lowe has done well and

:59:28.:59:31.

moves away. France are going to be five metres adrift. Mary Iheke gets

:59:32.:59:37.

the bat, Poland on her shoulder. With Iga Baumgart, the tall figure.

:59:38.:59:44.

Mary needs to run solid. France has got work to do, their worst run on

:59:45.:59:49.

this leg. If Britain can get some daylight that means Guei will have

:59:50.:59:56.

some tough task. Just keep going. Mary Iheke trying to hold off Lahm

:59:57.:00:02.

.com who was a semifinalist here. She moves past Mary Iheke, who must

:00:03.:00:08.

not panic, but must not let Baumgart get too far ahead. Behind her

:00:09.:00:11.

Ukraine are closing and France are still in there. Evenly spaced out.

:00:12.:00:16.

Four metres between them. Very strong run by

:00:17.:00:19.

Iga Baumgart. Poland in prime position. Mary Iheke has run well.

:00:20.:00:30.

Poland lead, great Britain in second. Huge gap back to Floria Guei

:00:31.:00:36.

for France, surely she is not going to come back. Cannot get back,

:00:37.:00:44.

impossible. Can levy a Nielsen run down the person who ran out of the

:00:45.:00:47.

bronze medal in the individual. She wants to try to get close, it would

:00:48.:00:52.

be a huge performance. Swiety in the lead. Swiety will try to hold her. A

:00:53.:00:59.

Nielsen has two pick a moment. She has worked hard to get up to her. It

:01:00.:01:03.

is between Poland and Great Britain for the gold medal. Swiety has

:01:04.:01:09.

surely kept something. What has Nielsen got left? Swiety stretches

:01:10.:01:13.

way, Nielsen looks spent, she needs to keep going. Poland pulling away,

:01:14.:01:18.

she will get gold. What a day for them and a silver medal for

:01:19.:01:24.

Edmonton, well done. The winning time, I said Britain could run about

:01:25.:01:31.

3:30 and that is what they did. Ukraine delighted with their bronze

:01:32.:01:36.

medal. France let down by their third leg, too much for Floria Guei

:01:37.:01:43.

to do on the final leg. Nielsen gave everything, she is so well matched

:01:44.:01:46.

with Swiety, she had to give her five metres. When you have worked

:01:47.:01:50.

hard the poll have the ability to sit back a little bit and then go

:01:51.:01:56.

again. The splits for Eilidh Doyle 53.1, Philippa Lowe 53.1, Mary

:01:57.:02:05.

Iheke, big run from her, 53 flat, great run on the third leg. Then

:02:06.:02:10.

Nielsen on the final leg 51.9 stop well done to all four of them.

:02:11.:02:16.

Superb silver medal. Always going to be silver when Swiety had the

:02:17.:02:22.

pattern with the lead because she finished just ahead of Latvia

:02:23.:02:25.

Nielsen in the individual. It was a sensible run by the Polish Quartet,

:02:26.:02:29.

Swiety in particular. She happily, she did not go off too fast. Nielsen

:02:30.:02:34.

was working so hard. At this point you have spent so much energy, never

:02:35.:02:40.

going to be about to get past. Swiety was the bronze-medallist in

:02:41.:02:44.

the individual 400 metres so the gap just opened up again. Swiety able to

:02:45.:02:49.

find extra energy but a very good run by levy a Nielsen. 51.9. Very

:02:50.:02:57.

good run from Swiety. Good silver medal for Britain. We talked about

:02:58.:03:00.

the strength throughout this Polish quartet, there is no weak link so

:03:01.:03:06.

they had consistency, good runner to take them on, Baumgart rent very

:03:07.:03:11.

well and the monarchy with a sensible run, deservedly levelled

:03:12.:03:13.

with a good silver from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. West

:03:14.:03:18.

well done from Ukraine, bit of a surprise. Floria Guei was too far

:03:19.:03:22.

down for France. Silver medal to finish from Great Britain. Still the

:03:23.:03:32.

men's 4x4 to come but no representation from Britain. Bright

:03:33.:03:35.

new talent from Great Britain, Poland doing very well, what a day

:03:36.:03:38.

they have had, we have had a good day but they have had a great day.

:03:39.:03:43.

Gold to Poland. STUDIO: Congratulations, silver medal to the

:03:44.:03:46.

end of the team volunteer for Great Britain, they are not competing in

:03:47.:03:53.

the men's 4x400m. And I think brave and gutsy attempt from Latvia

:03:54.:03:56.

Nielsen on the final leg. It is so tough with attracting smaller, you

:03:57.:04:03.

only have a small home straight. It really looks short but those bends,

:04:04.:04:12.

trying to make their mark. The margin to take your... I cannot get

:04:13.:04:15.

my website. So fantastic for the team. But this was the middle of the

:04:16.:04:21.

championships. Last time we talked about this there had been an appeal

:04:22.:04:27.

from the Swiss, but that came to nothing and Asha Phillip retains

:04:28.:04:31.

that gold medal. An emotional moment. For all of these athletes

:04:32.:04:38.

but we are so delighted for Asha that she has backed up the

:04:39.:04:42.

conference her Olympic bronze medal gave her. She showed that when you

:04:43.:04:48.

are on a roll and the Olympic medal kicked them onto that and she has

:04:49.:04:51.

gone away and train them performed well this season. But in these

:04:52.:04:54.

championships she has just grown every round. That will give her a

:04:55.:05:04.

big boost. The other girls as well who train with. That will give them

:05:05.:05:07.

a boost in the relay squad. We have that time and again. Falsely with

:05:08.:05:15.

Laura Muir, with Latvia Nielsen, so many of these young athletes coming

:05:16.:05:18.

in and taking a massive step forward. British record as well for

:05:19.:05:23.

Asha Phillip. She needed it because it was such a tight race. Very

:05:24.:05:31.

similar time is getting to these championships. And she produced the

:05:32.:05:36.

goods and really gives the moment. Asha Phillip with her gold medal,

:05:37.:06:46.

wonderful moment for Great Britain amongst so many. And a look at the

:06:47.:06:51.

medal table because that is it for Great Britain now. The final silver

:06:52.:06:59.

from the 4x400m leaves Great Britain second in the table. Ten medals in

:07:00.:07:08.

total. Paula and Denny 's, I'm afraid you know what that means,

:07:09.:07:11.

Colin can see it means our championship pundit in terms of

:07:12.:07:18.

predictions is none other than Steve Cram. I'm grateful we do not have a

:07:19.:07:26.

camera for the commentators because he is gloating. He got bronze and

:07:27.:07:27.

silver wrong way round. There he is! LAUGHTER

:07:28.:07:38.

Almost like he knows something about athletics. So modest with it. Very

:07:39.:07:45.

well done, Steve, all delighted for you. Moments of the tournament,

:07:46.:07:56.

4x400m. I have to say it was Asha in the 60, and Dina Asher-Smith after

:07:57.:08:03.

her injury. It was a big ask. Nobody would have predicted her to come

:08:04.:08:10.

through. Yes a medal that she rose to the occasion beautifully. Super

:08:11.:08:15.

job. I think I know yours will begin with L. It ends with Laura Muir. She

:08:16.:08:24.

came in and set is of such a challenge, delivered with two

:08:25.:08:27.

championship records, she demolished the rest of the field. In terms of

:08:28.:08:32.

the whole championships, does it rank up there for you? Yes it has

:08:33.:08:40.

too. We talked about the fact that before the British athletes coming

:08:41.:08:43.

here doing doubles, Colin had done it with both championship records.

:08:44.:08:50.

She has done 9000 metres and he did 360. So she wins hands down. What is

:08:51.:08:56.

your moment? Wheel everybody who comes in with the bravery to do what

:08:57.:09:01.

Laura did and pull off a pretty tough double, that is out there.

:09:02.:09:05.

Actually the run of the day for me was Shelayna in the women's 800.

:09:06.:09:13.

Always the 800 from you. It was so marginal and with a bit more

:09:14.:09:19.

expenditure not have done what she did on the final bend. I thought she

:09:20.:09:23.

looked like an 800-metre runner. My favourite moment actually was the

:09:24.:09:28.

victory parade a few minutes ago being there watching Asha demolish

:09:29.:09:33.

our families sized piece of cream cake. I have probably got her in

:09:34.:09:38.

trouble with the coaches. She was enjoying it. You have been invited

:09:39.:09:45.

to the team partied tonight? I have a date, Richard Kilty! We cannot

:09:46.:09:52.

call it that, he was going on about how happy is at home with his

:09:53.:09:55.

fiancee. Just an invite to the party. Not sure she will be going...

:09:56.:10:01.

Overall as a start to the year, looking ahead to London, this is

:10:02.:10:05.

really good advert. Great start to the year, great start for British

:10:06.:10:09.

athletics and I am pleased. I now ha-ha they have worked. The net

:10:10.:10:19.

years ago and they have a Prime Minister who has really committed to

:10:20.:10:21.

sport in this country, they have built ten tracks in the last two

:10:22.:10:29.

years. They want to bid for other things so this is a vibrant

:10:30.:10:37.

athletics culture. I think Spanovic today if I was not being partisan,

:10:38.:10:43.

not that any of you are interested. The home crowd, it really lifted the

:10:44.:10:47.

atmosphere. We have had a great three days in Belgrade, some

:10:48.:10:51.

fantastic performances from British athletes were truly bodes well for

:10:52.:10:55.

those Welsh amateur coming up in August in London. You can see those

:10:56.:11:01.

right across the BBC. Plenty more racing and meets before then and you

:11:02.:11:04.

will see the very best of them of course will stop but from all others

:11:05.:11:07.

thank you so much for watching. We have loved being here and we hope

:11:08.:11:10.

you have enjoyed it. See you next time.

:11:11.:11:18.

One of the greatest races in history. Kim Collins is going
