More magical MEP Rhyls hopefully will be created over the next --

:01:38.:01:42.

memories hopefully created over the next few days. We will have the

:01:43.:01:48.

conclusion of the pentathlon shortly. Remember, you can get

:01:49.:01:52.

involved in the chat on social media yourself. There are many ways how.

:01:53.:01:58.

Go to the web, bbc.co.uk/sports. Twitter is an option, #BBCathletics

:01:59.:02:03.

is the key to getting involved there. Many athletes tweeting today.

:02:04.:02:12.

The pen tooth on got under way this morning. -- pen tooth lob got under

:02:13.:02:19.

way this morning. She's done it. She's way ahead of

:02:20.:03:13.

everybody else. There we have it.

:03:14.:03:37.

That's a brilliant throw by Federer. She's in -- by Atlina Fodorova.

:03:38.:03:46.

She's in second place. Lovely throw. 14. 95. That will be enough to go

:03:47.:03:57.

into second in overall standings. This is the leader in the

:03:58.:04:05.

heptathlon, Nadine Broersen going well. That's just over the six-metre

:04:06.:04:08.

mark. Steady acceleration, very upright.

:04:09.:04:19.

That looks better. Fodorova, that's a very good effort, 6. 6.26, she's

:04:20.:04:25.

in second. Here we go. She's got to get this on the board and safe.

:04:26.:04:32.

That is 6. 13, she has a distance on the board. That's important.

:04:33.:04:49.

Nadine Broersen, Fodorova and thigh thigh. -- Theisen Eaton.

:04:50.:04:57.

The biggest disappointment from a British perspective is that Thompson

:04:58.:05:01.

Johnson isn't here. She couldn't get the qualifying because she was ill

:05:02.:05:06.

at the time she needed to do it. She's had to accept it. She couldn't

:05:07.:05:10.

do anything about it. She would have relished the opportunity to compete

:05:11.:05:14.

against some of these girls, here today. It's been an interesting

:05:15.:05:19.

competition. Very close-fought throughout. Katrina would have done

:05:20.:05:25.

the business. She was in shape. We'll see her in the long jump. She

:05:26.:05:29.

will have many more pentathlons to contest. When you looked at the

:05:30.:06:15.

field, did you see it as wide-open? Bort Nadine Broersen, how talented

:06:16.:06:19.

is she? How much potential does she have going forward? If you look at

:06:20.:06:23.

her performance today, the high jump is just phenomenal. She cleared 1.

:06:24.:06:30.

90, that was fantastic. The Dutch have got good athletes coming

:06:31.:06:38.

through. And the Belgians actually, I have to say Broersen was unlucky

:06:39.:06:43.

last time around at the World Championships. She clipped the

:06:44.:06:47.

hurdles and she Shh... Should have made through, but she finished tenth

:06:48.:06:52.

through the championships. We miss seeing our girls out here. Including

:06:53.:07:01.

Jessica Ennis-Hill. She's pregnant at the moment. Not going to be this

:07:02.:07:09.

year. Another big miss for us. Yes, she'll be back I'm sure. It is times

:07:10.:07:19.

that this that you need to see who's coming through and able to put it

:07:20.:07:22.

together. The performances will be a little bit down on what we probably

:07:23.:07:27.

expected, still there's a long season ahead for some of these

:07:28.:07:32.

athletes. Outdoors it's heptathlon, indoors it's pentathlon. Five events

:07:33.:07:36.

in one day. How tough is that? What will they go through? What you look

:07:37.:07:41.

at is the time table. I have to say, this is where the IAAF has the

:07:42.:07:46.

schedule right. It gives the girls enough time to breath. It minimises

:07:47.:07:51.

a lot of the rewarming up. They can move from event to event quite

:07:52.:07:54.

comfortably. It's what you train for. These are some of the fittest

:07:55.:07:59.

girls out there. I just think that pentathlon is such a nice event. It

:08:00.:08:03.

gives you the opportunity to put it all together, see what you've got.

:08:04.:08:07.

But the throws are what usually sorts out a lot of the

:08:08.:08:12.

heptatheletes, the javelin in particular. They don't have that

:08:13.:08:16.

here. It's been good watching them. As for the actual 800, what does

:08:17.:08:22.

your body go through after all the previous exertion? Is it one, final

:08:23.:08:28.

push. You've been there. It's a mental battle. Everyone will have

:08:29.:08:31.

had their pens and papers out. They'll be looking at what they need

:08:32.:08:35.

to do. Some people, it would be pressure on them. They have to run

:08:36.:08:39.

for the medals. Others, it will be just, you know what, I've done what

:08:40.:08:43.

I need to do. I just want to finish on a high note. It's about beating

:08:44.:08:48.

the event. It's such a tough one. Keeping yourself in the right mental

:08:49.:08:52.

frame is what really counts throughout and taking one event at a

:08:53.:08:57.

time. That's where the camaraderie comes from. You're all trying to

:08:58.:09:02.

beat the event together, you have that shared - you know what you're

:09:03.:09:05.

going through, you know how tough it can be, mentally as well. Yeah, it's

:09:06.:09:09.

minimising the events that don't go so well. The most consistent

:09:10.:09:14.

performer, Broersen has been that person so far, can win the race.

:09:15.:09:19.

Sometimes it's not about the big performances, but being consistent

:09:20.:09:24.

throughout, not having a disastrous event. Should point out, Canada's

:09:25.:09:34.

contender, Theisen Eaton, that comes from her husband. Not so bad in the

:09:35.:09:40.

decathlon himself! It's nice having those two. It's the first time we've

:09:41.:09:46.

seen pentathlon and men's heptathlon go off at the same time. It's nice

:09:47.:09:50.

they're giving each other the nod of encouragement. They train together

:09:51.:09:56.

and performing well. She's a really talented athlete in her own right,

:09:57.:10:00.

maybe living in the taddo of him, because he's such a superstar in

:10:01.:10:05.

some respects. She has a chance to take her own medal home. Absolutely.

:10:06.:10:09.

We don't know what colour medal at this time. She has a great 800-metre

:10:10.:10:13.

race. She will give it everything. She will want to make sure that

:10:14.:10:17.

no-one comes past and takes that medal away. She seems to be the

:10:18.:10:21.

bridesmaid. I'm sure she's relishing the opportunity to actually take the

:10:22.:10:26.

Gold Medal. Let's hope it happens for her and the family's sake as

:10:27.:10:30.

well. Thanks for your insight. It's fascinating as always. Let's head

:10:31.:10:34.

out to the pentathlon, 800 metres, see how the medals are decided.

:10:35.:11:27.

Theisen Eaton... Claudia Rath there. Tyminska, alongside Makusha, --

:11:28.:11:39.

Maksimava. Tyminska has perhaps ape bit too much to do. Tyminska has

:11:40.:11:52.

perhaps ape bit too much to do. ?FORCEDWHITE

:11:53.:11:56.

Maksimava has been there or there abouts all day. Broersen has been in

:11:57.:12:06.

the lead ever since the second event, the high jump, 1. 93 she

:12:07.:12:14.

cleared. 14. 59 shot putt and 6. 17 long jump.

:12:15.:12:18.

There's Fodorova, who is currently lying in second place.

:12:19.:12:27.

She's 32 points ahead of Brianne Theisen Eaton. She's just aiming to

:12:28.:12:35.

stay two seconds ahead. Mellor. Broersen of the Netherlands.

:12:36.:13:28.

Tyminska and Maksimava. They are together. Away we go.

:13:29.:13:36.

So the eight athletes under way. We've got four laps to go, Steve,

:13:37.:13:48.

it's going to be interesting to see where Nadine Broersen sits and where

:13:49.:13:56.

Brianne Theisen Eaton, who does go right to the front, where she stays

:13:57.:14:02.

there or not. You've got to be careful. Four laps indoors and she's

:14:03.:14:07.

gone off pretty quick, 29 seconds, that's fast for the first 200

:14:08.:14:10.

metres. There's only one thing we can say - she's going to slow down.

:14:11.:14:15.

With Day-Monroe, you will know more, she was within striking distance of

:14:16.:14:20.

Theisen Eaton in terms of points, if Theisen Eaton gets this horribly

:14:21.:14:24.

wrong. By going out too fast, of course, there is the danger that the

:14:25.:14:28.

wheels fall off completely and you fade away so much in the last 200

:14:29.:14:33.

metres that may happen. You're right, since her Gold Medal, I think

:14:34.:14:36.

she will keep her eye on things at the back. She needs to be a bit

:14:37.:14:40.

careful. The real intriguing battle here is at the front here, for the

:14:41.:14:45.

Canadian. Certainly she's set her stall out and has gone out pretty

:14:46.:14:51.

hard. Yeah she has. I wonder if Nadine Broersen realises just how

:14:52.:14:57.

far ahead she is? Theisen Eaton is well ahead. Just wonder whether she

:14:58.:15:08.

has the opportunity to take a bit of a rain check here? Here we go.

:15:09.:15:18.

There's about four-and-a-half, five seconds at the moment that's quite

:15:19.:15:24.

sufficient in terms of the time laps between Nadine Broersen and this

:15:25.:15:29.

athlete, Brianne Theisen Eaton. Day-Monroe is gritting her teeth

:15:30.:15:33.

there in second place. Claudia Rath in third. But it's not all about

:15:34.:15:39.

those three. It's all about the athlete in second place now, whether

:15:40.:15:46.

she can stay far enough ahead of Theisen Eaton, who just crosses the

:15:47.:15:52.

line now. There is the potential champion. So Nadine Broersen is the

:15:53.:16:10.

champion. Brianne Theisen Eaton is in second place. And Atlina Fodorova

:16:11.:16:20.

has moved down to third. There's the winner of the heptathlon, the final

:16:21.:16:30.

event, this is almost incidental now.

:16:31.:16:44.

Just watch Brianne Theisen Eaton. Sharon Day-Monroe it is woulds going

:16:45.:16:48.

to win. But Brianne Theisen Eaton definitely gets second place. I

:16:49.:16:54.

think it's fast enough to overtake Atlina Fodorova, who is some way out

:16:55.:16:59.

of the picture. She's way, way back, even behind Nadine Broersen. So that

:17:00.:17:08.

is sufficient. It's a shame that the camera keeps going to Sharon

:17:09.:17:13.

Day-Monroe, but nevertheless, she finishes in fourth place in this

:17:14.:17:17.

championship. She'll learn from that, we think. Sharon Day-Monroe,

:17:18.:17:35.

difficult to tell actually whether she's overtaken any of the

:17:36.:17:37.

medallists. We will have to wait and see. I think you called it

:17:38.:17:42.

absolutely right. It's a gold for Netherlands. You can see Broersen

:17:43.:17:48.

celebrating there. Theisen Eaton has moved into Silver Medal. You're

:17:49.:17:51.

right, Fodorova hanging on for the bronze. What is it about the Dutch

:17:52.:17:57.

and multievents? They do very, very well. They certainly do. There's the

:17:58.:18:04.

champion, the multievents champion here from the women's point of view.

:18:05.:18:10.

The men's is yet to be decided. There's still a high jump

:18:11.:18:15.

competition to be settled here this evening. And she's won a medal as

:18:16.:18:26.

well. So Fodorova absolutely delighted.

:18:27.:18:36.

Sharon Day-Monroe miss aid bronze medal by six points. -- missed a

:18:37.:18:44.

bronze medal by six points. She wasn't to know it, but if she had

:18:45.:18:49.

attacked a little bit earlier, she won the race, she was sitting on

:18:50.:18:53.

Theisen Eaton - there's confirmation of the result first of all. Yeah

:18:54.:19:00.

Sharon Day-Monroe the winner. Theisen Eaton has got four silver

:19:01.:19:24.

medals indoors and out. There is the roll of honour.

:19:25.:19:51.

There is the champion, Nadine Broersen, of the Netherlands.

:19:52.:20:04.

Denise Lewis is here to reflect on what we've just seen. You talked

:20:05.:20:12.

about Brianne Theisen Eaton always the bridesmaid, not quite the bride.

:20:13.:20:15.

But she will take satisfaction in the silver. And a potential star

:20:16.:20:20.

born in Nadine Broersen. You know, I had a feeling she would be running

:20:21.:20:24.

for the Silver Medal. She was the better 800 metre runners there. She

:20:25.:20:29.

gave it everything. Personal bets all over the place in that race.

:20:30.:20:32.

Because it means so much to the girls. You put yourself on the line,

:20:33.:20:38.

you don't want to leave without that just reward. Delighted to see

:20:39.:20:43.

Brianne getting a medal there. What can you say about Nadene, it was

:20:44.:20:48.

fantastic personal best from her in the 800. It's not her better event.

:20:49.:20:52.

She gave it everything. It was really good to see. A world leading

:20:53.:20:57.

per formance in terms of points for this season. When they come to a

:20:58.:21:00.

major champion to deliver their best on the day and you never know what

:21:01.:21:04.

is going to happenment Absolutely, this is a building block. These are

:21:05.:21:08.

athletes who are thinking about what the outdoor might bring. It's about

:21:09.:21:12.

making sure you have wintered well, you're strong, showing some early

:21:13.:21:16.

signs of form and you can take it on. Thank you very much. We've got a

:21:17.:21:22.

Gold Medal to be decided in the men's shot putt. There's Polish

:21:23.:21:25.

interest here. The crowd will be very excited to see their double

:21:26.:21:32.

Olympic champion, Tomasz Majewski in the shot final, alongside Ryan

:21:33.:21:38.

Whiting of the USA. Here's Paul.

:21:39.:21:44.

Tomasz Majewski, in London he became the first shot putter to retain an

:21:45.:21:49.

Olympic title. He says he's going to continue right

:21:50.:21:51.

through until 2016. Is that good? Oh, yes! It's not

:21:52.:22:03.

quite what the crowd wanted. But it's up there.

:22:04.:22:12.

It's a very simple technique. Needs to be 21 metres or further though,

:22:13.:22:17.

if he wants to go into the lead. ( Paula Radcliffe has joined me here.

:22:18.:23:52.

We're going to talk 3,000 metres. A couple of British athletes in this

:23:53.:24:01.

in Melleo and a supreme athlete in Lagat. He's trying to do something

:24:02.:24:12.

special here. Yes. When he won the title in 2012, he is aiming to win

:24:13.:24:17.

three in a row and to have won four titles over 3,000 metres at the

:24:18.:24:21.

Indoor Championships. He's 39 years of age now. I don't say he's getting

:24:22.:24:25.

quicker, but he's certainly maintaining his form very well and

:24:26.:24:29.

getting stronger and stronger as he ages. Every year he questions how

:24:30.:24:39.

much longer he can keep his body holding out. Every year he comes

:24:40.:24:43.

back. I know he gets great receptions every time he runs in the

:24:44.:24:47.

indoor meetings here or outdoors in the summer. He's good friends with

:24:48.:24:52.

Mo Farah, we know that. He's a guy you can't help but to warm to as a

:24:53.:25:02.

person as well as an athlete. Lagat loves the sport and keeps his family

:25:03.:25:05.

involved in it. He warms to arenas and crowds that get behind him. He

:25:06.:25:10.

loves racing in Britain. I think that's why he likes racing indoors

:25:11.:25:15.

and he can come and perform so well at the Indoor Championships. We are

:25:16.:25:21.

looking for good performances for Mellor and Vernon.

:25:22.:25:38.

This man won a medal the the Olympics behind Mo Farah. He was

:25:39.:25:46.

outside the medals in this event two years ago. He's capable of getting

:25:47.:25:52.

amongst them here. Parszcynski will get a big cheer from the local

:25:53.:25:56.

crowd. In good form. You can see he's under 7. 50 this year.

:25:57.:26:13.

Galen Rupp, he looks half asleep there. Heats of the men's 3,000

:26:14.:26:20.

metres to go. Final on Sunday. Olympic Silver Medallist at 10,000

:26:21.:26:26.

metres. There's two Olympic Silver Medallists. You add in the likes of

:26:27.:26:29.

Augustine Kiprono Choge and Silver Medallist from these World

:26:30.:26:32.

Championships two years ago behind Lagat, who was in the second heat,

:26:33.:26:34.

shows the talent we have here. 15 laps of the track. Collis

:26:35.:26:58.

Birmingham of Australia, a tall figure in the yellow on the outside.

:26:59.:27:05.

Gelant of South Africa also wearing a similar strip, moving through on

:27:06.:27:08.

the inside to take the lead. It will be interesting to see what

:27:09.:27:32.

tactics these men employ here, given that the second race is full of

:27:33.:27:37.

talent as well. The four fastest loser spots theoretically, you could

:27:38.:27:41.

come in the top eight here, if the others didn't fancy running too

:27:42.:27:47.

faff. I'm not -- too fast. Certainly somebody who was a good proponent of

:27:48.:27:52.

indoor running next to me now. Lord Coe, good to see you here. Good

:27:53.:27:57.

evening. Good evening. Quickly, we'll get through this first lap in

:27:58.:28:03.

63. 800 this morning, that was a bit intense, winner of each heat going

:28:04.:28:11.

through to the final. Andrew ran really well. I will go back on the

:28:12.:28:15.

first point you made. I am not entirely sure that is a format that

:28:16.:28:19.

works. I like the rounds in an eight. I think people coming to the

:28:20.:28:23.

stadium want to see a narrative unfold. That was very harsh on some

:28:24.:28:26.

of those athletes, particularly at this time of the season. Indoor

:28:27.:28:31.

running is a specialist event. I think it prepares you very well for

:28:32.:28:36.

the outdoors. That was quite a harsh set of qualifications. Having said

:28:37.:28:40.

that, I hear that you gave him a little bit of advice before the race

:28:41.:28:44.

and it was good advice, which was stay out of trouble, run with an

:28:45.:28:48.

economy of effort and make sure that you're there when it really matters.

:28:49.:28:58.

David Storl of Germany set this stadium alight. Oh, that's over 21

:28:59.:29:02.

metres. Dips low, drives off the front

:29:03.:29:14.

there. Just needed that foot to stay down a little bit. That was

:29:15.:29:21.

phenomenal. It's the first time anybody has been clear, apart from

:29:22.:29:27.

David himself. 21. 79, my Goodness Gracious Me, that is terrific.

:29:28.:29:34.

Welcome to our salubrious commentary box. This 3,000 metres, you talk

:29:35.:29:45.

about the 800 this morning, all of these events, 1500 is very

:29:46.:29:48.

competitive, 3,000 metres with Bernard Lagat, I know you're a big

:29:49.:29:55.

fan of his. Dejen Gebremeskel in this one. Gebrhiwet in the next one.

:29:56.:30:00.

Tough for the likes of Andrew Vernon. He's trying to make it into

:30:01.:30:04.

the finals. I think it's important that you give where you possibly can

:30:05.:30:08.

in a sensible way. You give people the experience of running at this

:30:09.:30:11.

level. Indoors is a very good way of doing that.

:30:12.:30:15.

Sometimes the lessons are quite harsh. This is quite a specialist

:30:16.:30:19.

discipline. You have to make decisions, very much quicker than

:30:20.:30:23.

you do over a 400 metre outdoor track. It's an obvious thing to say.

:30:24.:30:29.

It's very high-speed chess. You're always thinking about what the exit

:30:30.:30:33.

route is and if somebody comes up alongside you, can you get out

:30:34.:30:37.

quickly. Those decisions you have to make quicker. It's a very good

:30:38.:30:41.

learning curve for young athletes. Used indoors a lot through your

:30:42.:30:45.

career, there weren't as many opportunities perhaps as there are

:30:46.:30:50.

now to race indoors, but it is almost a specialist thing. There are

:30:51.:30:53.

some runners who do excel indoors who don't necessarily do so

:30:54.:30:59.

outdoors. I like outdoors because it kept me mentally sharp during the

:31:00.:31:04.

winter months. Not an athlete that was as tall and rangy as you, it

:31:05.:31:10.

suited me. For a taller athlete it's difficult mastering bends. The

:31:11.:31:13.

sprinters tend to be the stockier type, particularly on, not over 60

:31:14.:31:21.

metres. It was an important conditioner. Occasionally I ran

:31:22.:31:24.

eights. I probably ran over 3,000 metres as much as I did at any

:31:25.:31:30.

distance indoors. That was a very good transitional distance between

:31:31.:31:33.

the winter work and getting out onto the track for the summer months.

:31:34.:31:41.

Kaya leading this. Galen Rupp has been moving through. Maybe not

:31:42.:31:45.

trusting his quick quite so much. The first four go through.

:31:46.:31:49.

Gebremeskel has been happy to sit at the back. This is Ivancevic in the

:31:50.:32:01.

shot putt. -- Ivanov. Starting from eighth

:32:02.:32:07.

place to seventh, that's what Ivanov is. That looks pretty good. That's

:32:08.:32:14.

the 21-metre line. If he's achieved that, he's really kickstarted this

:32:15.:32:29.

competition. That is good. That is a new Bulgarian indoor

:32:30.:32:37.

record. That is absolutely fab lick. -- fabulous. Coming around now with

:32:38.:32:43.

four laps to go, that'sle -- that's 800 metres.

:32:44.:32:54.

Galen Rupp in third place, Andrew Vernon doing well here. Moving up on

:32:55.:33:01.

the outside. Top four only to go through. They've been picking the

:33:02.:33:05.

pace up all along. They know that the second he will have an advantage

:33:06.:33:10.

if they don't take advantage here. Birmingham stretching them out.

:33:11.:33:15.

Galen Rupp looking comfortable. El Goumri is behind Gelant of South

:33:16.:33:20.

Africa. Vernon in sixth place. Kaya, the long-time leader, is behind him.

:33:21.:33:24.

And Gebremeskel, the big danger from Ethiopia moving up for the first

:33:25.:33:26.

time. Birmingham is doing a great job

:33:27.:33:30.

here. Gebremeskel realising that the gaps are beginning to appear. Andrew

:33:31.:33:33.

Vernon has to get his head down and try to finish strongly if he can.

:33:34.:34:24.

Andrew Vernon is trying to get himself into this final, if he can

:34:25.:34:29.

only get past Birmingham. Choge rallies onned comes to the front.

:34:30.:34:37.

Rupp in second. Then Gebremeskel. What a great run by Andrew Vernon.

:34:38.:34:45.

Excellent! That will be a new personal best indoors. It will mean

:34:46.:34:49.

that he ge through to the final and what a good run, because he was

:34:50.:34:53.

disappointed with his performance in Birmingham having run very, very

:34:54.:34:57.

impressively in the trials. Andrew Vernon, there, didn't give it up, as

:34:58.:35:02.

the pace built. He found something extra right at the very end when he

:35:03.:35:06.

needed to. They started to drop off one by one and Collis Birmingham,

:35:07.:35:10.

who did all the hard work to be honest, was the one who suffered

:35:11.:35:12.

most. He's come here and run a personal

:35:13.:36:03.

best. Tomasz Majewski now finds himself in fourth place. He needs

:36:04.:36:10.

something over the 21-metre line. Is that good? Oh, yes! This is

:36:11.:36:20.

turning out to be a smashing competition.

:36:21.:36:26.

Shifts, reaches out towards the front, just managed to stay in.

:36:27.:36:36.

Bingo. That's well over 21 metres. Perhaps not as far as I thought, but

:36:37.:36:38.

he's in third place. Ryan Whiting now, still only good

:36:39.:36:49.

enough for second place. Oh, my goodness! That's absolutely

:36:50.:37:10.

massive. That was phenomenal.

:37:11.:37:15.

That was something approaching 22 metres or there abouts.

:37:16.:37:23.

This could be one of the great competitions. David Storl is still

:37:24.:37:27.

in it. He will be fighting. How far is this? 22. 05.

:37:28.:37:32.

Everybody is saying congratulations Ryan Whiting.

:37:33.:37:43.

Steve, I'm sure that all sounds like fantastic news all around, because

:37:44.:38:02.

it's personal best, you're in the World Championship final, Steve

:38:03.:38:06.

saying, you took great scalps as well. Unfortunately, one of the

:38:07.:38:10.

scalps I took was my training partner Collis Birmingham. I was

:38:11.:38:14.

spoking -- speaking to my coach last night saying that the worst case

:38:15.:38:18.

scenario it's me and him battling it out for the last spot. I think he

:38:19.:38:23.

was fifth or he might have got done bit South African in sixth. I

:38:24.:38:29.

overtook him on the last bend. I came here to make the final and

:38:30.:38:32.

that's what I've done. Job done so far. Tell me about the frame of mind

:38:33.:38:35.

when you're on the start line, what was the game plan? Did you execute

:38:36.:38:39.

it the way you wanted to? Yeah well, I did a bit of research on YouTube.

:38:40.:38:45.

I just went back the last two years of how the heats and final went.

:38:46.:38:48.

They all play out exactly the same way. It's quite relaxed for the

:38:49.:38:53.

first ten laps and just wind up, wind up for the last K, it's how it

:38:54.:38:57.

went again today as well. There weren't any surprises really. I

:38:58.:39:02.

wasn't sure whether to take it out faster having the four fastest

:39:03.:39:05.

losers go through. That makes eight people in one heat could go through

:39:06.:39:09.

and you only have to beat two people. My coach decided against it

:39:10.:39:13.

and he said you know you're strong enough to kick with the guys. You

:39:14.:39:18.

did that. You've done it by right. You're in the final. Enjoy the

:39:19.:39:20.

experience. Well done. Thank you very much.

:39:21.:39:21.

Back to Steve. Very well done indeed. One of the

:39:22.:39:33.

options was to take it out, the pace was good. That was the point, it was

:39:34.:39:37.

a good, decent pace. Collis Birmingham picked it up. He was one

:39:38.:39:40.

of the ones that lost out. It would be interesting to see what happens

:39:41.:39:50.

here. Another British athlete, Johnny Mellor here. He beat Collis

:39:51.:40:03.

Birmingham in Birmingham. That was a very well executed race.

:40:04.:40:08.

Let's hope Mellor can do something similar to Vernon. Anything this

:40:09.:40:13.

might be harder. He has Bernard Lagat, the defending champion going

:40:14.:40:19.

for his third in a row and fourth in total world indoor title. You have

:40:20.:40:24.

Gebrhiwet, this talented 19-year-old from Ethiopia. Silver Medal at the

:40:25.:40:28.

World Championships last year. Then you have Caleb Mwangangi Ndiku, who

:40:29.:40:32.

is the best hope that perhaps Kenya have got. He's at the back. He's

:40:33.:40:40.

wearing a hat. Excuse me? Ndiku, great 1500 metre runner. Great

:40:41.:40:45.

talent he is. Then one or two others in there who can run fast times as

:40:46.:40:50.

well, including Nigel Levine of Canada, who is happy to sit in

:40:51.:41:16.

They're training permanently at altitude. He's racing pretty well so

:41:17.:41:23.

far this year. He's been just over to Puerto Rico to race the world 10

:41:24.:41:27.

k there. Reasonable result. He's watched the first heat and is

:41:28.:41:31.

pushing this second heat on at a decent pace and making sure that

:41:32.:41:34.

they have a fair chance of getting close to that, although it's not

:41:35.:41:38.

going to be easy. It wasn't like they were jogging around in the

:41:39.:41:40.

first heat. They will have to work. It will probably need a bit of

:41:41.:41:49.

assistance from other guys out here. He has no race, or indoor racing

:41:50.:41:53.

this year to fall back on. He ran a good year last year, 13. 13 for

:41:54.:41:57.

5,000 metres. That was a personal best. He'll be hoping that somebody

:41:58.:42:01.

will help him out here. He looked over his shoulder there. No sign of

:42:02.:42:05.

anybody coming through. One name I didn't mention is Ibrahimov. He was

:42:06.:42:32.

just tucked in there. 745, there are thereabouts, they will have to run

:42:33.:42:36.

if they want to get into the top four. Given the talent that is on

:42:37.:42:45.

display the strength and depth of the Men's 800, this again is an

:42:46.:42:54.

event full of some of the best names running in the world. One name that

:42:55.:43:03.

has been there for a long time is that of... Who never ceases to come

:43:04.:43:08.

back freshly charged each year and attacks each year as it comes. He

:43:09.:43:14.

keeps close to the times he has been running for all of this century. He

:43:15.:43:24.

is content to follow the pace, because he does have that killer

:43:25.:43:29.

finish that he can release. He can run this race smoothly. That is like

:43:30.:43:36.

when you forget to take your accreditation off, he has decided to

:43:37.:43:44.

come in and race. How can you forget to take your hat off? People do it.

:43:45.:43:52.

You get nervous before you go out on the track. I have enjoyed watching

:43:53.:43:58.

him. We have talked about lots of Kenyans coming through, he is

:43:59.:44:03.

running against a great runner who is a joy to watch. Where he ran his

:44:04.:44:14.

327, Mo Farah took the record, he pushed Mo Farah on that lap. He ran

:44:15.:44:20.

well in Monaco. He is a big talent. You talk about the 3000 metres, this

:44:21.:44:26.

could be a good event for him. When you get to championships, he must be

:44:27.:44:35.

a danger. At 39, he still has some speed in his legs. He could hold off

:44:36.:44:40.

the likes of some of these guys in a sprint finish. When you are younger,

:44:41.:44:48.

and you are straddling that threshold between the 1500 metres

:44:49.:44:54.

and the 5000 metres, the 3000 metres can be the perfect distance. You

:44:55.:45:00.

might not have the stamina to really hit the 5000 metres, but the

:45:01.:45:05.

potential could come later. For heaven, this is probably the perfect

:45:06.:45:12.

distance. Johnny Miller trying to hold onto the pace, he might not be

:45:13.:45:18.

too far off a personal best. Other great run. Some of these guys run

:45:19.:45:24.

well in Birmingham. He is towards the back of the group. He is finding

:45:25.:45:31.

this pace heart. He must have looked, goodness me, but he is at

:45:32.:45:39.

the back trying to hold on. They are well spaced out. He could well be

:45:40.:45:48.

rewarded with a personal best. Again, Robertson moves to the front,

:45:49.:46:10.

helped out by Ibrahim North. -- -- Ibramhinov. We had not mentioned

:46:11.:46:23.

Adams. He trains in Portland. He ran a quick time then. He probably does

:46:24.:46:29.

not quite have the speed to finish over the closing stages that Mo

:46:30.:46:33.

Farah would have. He is strong and getting stronger year-on-year. Now,

:46:34.:46:41.

between six men, Robertson doing his best, but they are drifting away

:46:42.:46:46.

from the time they went out, you would expect them to pick it up over

:46:47.:47:02.

the last 600 metres. Ndoku moves in. Ibramhinov is still there. He is

:47:03.:47:08.

trying to hang onto this, trying to produce some sort of finish, trying

:47:09.:47:13.

to get into the top four, you would expect the four big names to make it

:47:14.:47:17.

through, can Robertson do anything to up set them, Ndoku the

:47:18.:47:27.

specialist. He has done this so many times. He goes past Robertson as

:47:28.:47:34.

Ibramhinov takes a little stumble. The four are moving away now. Look

:47:35.:47:45.

at them go. These four will be clear. Ndoku there. Ibramhinov is

:47:46.:47:56.

there. I think the two of them will go through. They did enough to get

:47:57.:48:03.

them closer to the 7.45 mark. Robertson is looking up at the

:48:04.:48:09.

screen. The last one to cross will be Johnny Miller. Did we learn

:48:10.:48:19.

anything, we learned that Ndoku can kick. He forgot to take his hat off

:48:20.:48:28.

or it was deliberate. He put a little bit of pace on a Ndiku

:48:29.:48:35.

responded. He is wise and mature enough. He knows he does not need to

:48:36.:48:42.

win this, he does not need to get into as scrappy match. It looked as

:48:43.:48:46.

though he had plenty to come around him. We go back to the shot put.

:48:47.:48:56.

This is Tom Walsh, he has been getting better since 2012. He has

:48:57.:49:04.

had a succession of fouls. A chance for the New Zealander. He has not

:49:05.:49:14.

particularly big. In relative turns. -- he is not. Here we go, Tomas

:49:15.:49:20.

Walsh, getting ready. He is a rotator. Anything can happen. Oh my

:49:21.:49:29.

goodness! That is the nominal. Well over 20 metres! Over 21 metres --

:49:30.:49:36.

phenomenal. He has got really fast feet. 21 metres plus. That is going

:49:37.:49:48.

to put the cat amongst the pigeons. 21.26. I knew Australian...

:49:49.:49:58.

Australasian, Continental records. That means that this man is in

:49:59.:50:11.

second place -- Madjewski. He has got this turns. Last throw, here we

:50:12.:50:25.

go. He is going to get it. It has got to go above 21, it was not

:50:26.:50:28.

anti-finishes outside the medals. This man, he has been fantastic over

:50:29.:50:53.

the years, but he is in fourth place. That is confirmed.

:50:54.:51:08.

So here comes the bulk area. He has already got a medal, can he make it

:51:09.:51:24.

a better one. -- the ball Gerrie on. He cannot. -- Bulgarian. He is in

:51:25.:51:42.

fifth place. That is quite some performance. He must have thought he

:51:43.:51:56.

would be in third place. He must have thought he got something very

:51:57.:52:12.

special. Here is Whiting. Can tempt one produce something even more

:52:13.:52:13.

remarkable. -- Michael Whiting. Not quite as far as it was last

:52:14.:52:39.

time. David won the title with his last throw in the last championships

:52:40.:52:45.

and Ryan Whiting was leading at the time. Here we go. It is all or

:52:46.:53:07.

nothing here we go, it is David Storl. He is really up for this. Can

:53:08.:53:15.

he win his second world title? Oh my goodness! He cannot, but it was a

:53:16.:53:29.

good effort. He was very fast to cross the circle. He knows what it

:53:30.:53:45.

is like to lose one. 21.19. That is good enough, just for second place.

:53:46.:53:53.

What a performance by Ryan Whiting. The last time, it was David Storl.

:53:54.:54:03.

He got it and Ryan Whiting was in second, this time it is the other

:54:04.:54:10.

way around. What a performance. There we have it, David Storl in

:54:11.:54:17.

second place, Ryan Whiting in first. Absolutely excellent. Ryan Whiting,

:54:18.:54:24.

22.05. Well, this silver medal went to

:54:25.:55:00.

David Storl and there is a very lucky man. Absolute favourite. Tom

:55:01.:55:16.

Walsh of New Zealand. He too climbs the 21 metre mark and gets out of

:55:17.:55:24.

the shadow of the great Jack O Gill. Well done to him. -- Jack O'Gill. It

:55:25.:55:48.

has been good for New Zealand. Here are the results. Look at that, new

:55:49.:56:01.

record for Robertson and the Canadian goes through. Johnny Miller

:56:02.:56:11.

finished in 10th position. These are the men who have made it through to

:56:12.:56:26.

the final and what a list of names. Andrew Vernon will be joining them

:56:27.:56:39.

and he will be delighted. We are going on to the semi-finals of the

:56:40.:56:47.

Women's 400 metres. That is still held by the great runner from the

:56:48.:56:56.

Czech Republic. 49.59 seconds. The athletes are out on the track and

:56:57.:57:02.

there we have the line-up, Patricia Hall represents Jamaica, Joanna

:57:03.:57:11.

Atkins for the USA. Ridge added George from Nigeria does not start

:57:12.:57:26.

-- Regina. Patricia Hall, a very talented athlete. Joanna Atkins from

:57:27.:57:38.

the USA. A former US collegiate champion. 50.39, she has run. Here

:57:39.:57:59.

is the Dutch runner she was second in the Dutch nationals. There is

:58:00.:58:12.

Swiety. She is the Polish indoor champion. She gets a big cheer from

:58:13.:58:22.

the crowd. She was second in the European Junior Championships. She

:58:23.:58:48.

is 21 now. No Regina George, so on to Denise Rosolova. Justyna Swiety

:58:49.:58:59.

is the crowd favourite. And she is also the Polish favourite. We are

:59:00.:59:16.

down to five all together. They will break for the inside after the

:59:17.:59:33.

second bend. The Championship record still held from 2006. Away we go.

:59:34.:59:46.

Very much the marks laid down by Atkins. Being chased by Regina

:59:47.:59:55.

George. Storming around the inside. Patricia Hall and Joanna Atkins and

:59:56.:00:06.

Rosolova is following. Which one of these three is going to make the

:00:07.:00:12.

mark now? Atkins is really busting a gut trying to get this one. Patricia

:00:13.:00:22.

Hall will not let her past. Rosolova's gone! Swiety comes

:00:23.:00:27.

through. Patricia Hall and Swiety. That was a

:00:28.:00:33.

turn up for the books. There might be an inquiry into that

:00:34.:00:38.

one. We might have a look. You know, as

:00:39.:00:45.

you were commentating on that race, I was trying to see what was going

:00:46.:00:49.

on in the background. Athletes all of a sudden came alive with the last

:00:50.:00:54.

150 metres. They realised they had a chance of qualifying. They all had a

:00:55.:00:56.

surge around the bend, which caused a lot of really traffic, congestion,

:00:57.:01:02.

all the athletes start to close in here. They realise there's gaps

:01:03.:01:07.

appearing, people not moving as fast as they thought they would.

:01:08.:01:11.

Unfortunately, someone goes down, just off this bend. Rosolova hits

:01:12.:01:18.

the floor and is left really in a bad state. Number ripped off. She's

:01:19.:01:23.

limping and walking away to the finishing line. She's bitterly

:01:24.:01:26.

disappointed. Look at the Polish athlete celebrating, no way did she

:01:27.:01:30.

think she was going to do it, Swiety. But she's in the final. When

:01:31.:01:35.

accidents happen, there's a bit of inquiry that will go on and people

:01:36.:01:39.

will be talking, so it may take a bit of time before the result

:01:40.:01:43.

reaches us. So far so good for Jamaica.

:01:44.:01:56.

There is Rosolova. She really came down a hefty thump there. We'll have

:01:57.:01:59.

to see what happens. An eventful first semifinal. The

:02:00.:02:16.

second is coming up. There's British interest in that. Margaret Adeoye

:02:17.:02:21.

has got through as a fast eloser -- loser, but a season's best in

:02:22.:02:23.

getting to this position. loser, but a season's best in

:02:24.:02:25.

getting to this She ran well this morning. Just had one of those heats

:02:26.:02:29.

where it's just loaded, you know, she had to run really well. I was

:02:30.:02:33.

pleased that she actually made it through to the semifinals. She is

:02:34.:02:39.

really going to have to produce something special here. I'm

:02:40.:02:43.

delighted. She's still someone I feel that's learning how to run the

:02:44.:02:48.

400 metres. She's come from a speed, 200-metre background and you know,

:02:49.:02:55.

indoors is not easy. It's a season's best time. She has to deliver

:02:56.:03:00.

another one. You know find something more magical. She's ended up in a

:03:01.:03:04.

really sufficient semi as well. Yes -- really tough semi as well. Yes,

:03:05.:03:09.

she has. Francena McCorory is in there. She has to just pot pay these

:03:10.:03:14.

ladies too much respect. She has to run her own race, but be positive

:03:15.:03:19.

and especially at that bell, where there's going to be a lot of pushing

:03:20.:03:23.

and shoving. She's got to make sure she keeps out of dangerer, but

:03:24.:03:27.

really attacking -- danger, but really attack being. Your

:03:28.:03:33.

experience, making that transition from sprinter, 200 metres, maybe 100

:03:34.:03:37.

metres, up to 400, is that something that takes years? Is it something

:03:38.:03:41.

that can happen imaginically because you're a gifted Bolt-type figure?

:03:42.:03:47.

Nothing happens imaginically with the 400 metres. It's pain all the

:03:48.:03:53.

way -- magically, with the 400 metres. It's pain all the way. You

:03:54.:03:57.

have to put in the sessions to lay the foundations to make sure that

:03:58.:04:00.

you understand where you attack. You understand the strength of your

:04:01.:04:03.

race. And sho is still learning that. She is still learning that.

:04:04.:04:11.

She's part a great squad. She has to attack it and go for it. Let's hope

:04:12.:04:16.

she can perform tonight. Here's Steve Cram.

:04:17.:04:20.

Thank you, Phil. I think she's got a real tough job here.

:04:21.:04:25.

She is still learning this event. This is a steep learning curve for

:04:26.:04:30.

her here. This is by far the toughest of the two semis. Given

:04:31.:04:34.

that there was only five athletes lined up for the first one, she will

:04:35.:04:38.

wish she was in that one. As it is, she has to attack this as best she

:04:39.:04:43.

can. Esther Cremer is on the inside. Adeoye is in lane two. Patricia Hall

:04:44.:04:50.

won that from lane one. So lane draw not as important. Being on the

:04:51.:04:53.

inside with the type of athlete she has outside her, she will have a

:04:54.:04:58.

decision to make whether just to sit off here. She has good 200 metre

:04:59.:05:02.

pace. Francena McCorory is outside her in lane three. US indoor

:05:03.:05:10.

champion, very slow off the mark this morning. But once she was into

:05:11.:05:15.

her running looked pretty good. Outside her will be the Russian

:05:16.:05:21.

champion, Kseniya Ryzhova who wasn't as impressive as we might have

:05:22.:05:23.

thought. She did make it through. Kaliese Spencer, the 400-metre

:05:24.:05:39.

hurdler looked pretty good. Fourth in the Olympics in the hurdle

:05:40.:05:49.

eventment You can see there pretty impressive with a personal best of

:05:50.:05:54.

52. 14. Patricia Hall won the first semi in 52. 2.le, well some of these

:05:55.:05:59.

athletes might have thought they were in that one, including Margaret

:06:00.:06:04.

Adeoye. She's also got this young lady, Shaunae Miller, 19-year-old of

:06:05.:06:09.

age. What I real talent she is. I think my only question mark was how

:06:10.:06:16.

tired are these athletes? They had to run this morning, come back here

:06:17.:06:20.

for tonight's semifinal. I think that first semi they looked a little

:06:21.:06:24.

tired. They should all be prepared, though. They're 400 metre runners.

:06:25.:06:28.

They should be used to it. They've had a long break in relative terms.

:06:29.:06:31.

The experience is what's going to be important. This one is all about

:06:32.:06:38.

speed, unfortunately. Speed on the first lap, who's going to get to the

:06:39.:06:42.

front here and try to control this? There are just three spots

:06:43.:06:45.

available. No fasters losers. It's the first three through to the

:06:46.:06:49.

final. Miller on the outside, then Spencer

:06:50.:06:53.

coming in towards us. Ryzhova, McCorory, Adeoye and Cremer.

:06:54.:07:04.

Margaret Adeoye is very strong out of the blocks. There's a good start

:07:05.:07:11.

running down McCorory, who doesn't always start the quickest. Ryzhova

:07:12.:07:15.

started very fast, as indeed has Miller, who has good 200-metre pace.

:07:16.:07:21.

Margaret Adeoye really has got herself involved in this, which is

:07:22.:07:25.

good. The one suffering is Kaliese Spencer at the minute. A long way

:07:26.:07:28.

off this. The Russian attacks and gets to the front first. Miller in

:07:29.:07:32.

second behind her. Then McCorory just sneaks through on the inside.

:07:33.:07:35.

Leaves a gap there. Margaret Adeoye in fourth at the moment. Here comes

:07:36.:07:40.

Kaliese Spencer. She's trying to make up the gap. Shaunae Miller is

:07:41.:07:44.

so wide she's going to let Spencer come through on the inside for third

:07:45.:07:48.

spot. Only the top three to go through. Ryzhova much better from

:07:49.:07:51.

the Russian, McCorory finishing well. So is Kaliese Spencer. That

:07:52.:08:01.

was so close, Kaliese Spencer slows through the first 200, finished

:08:02.:08:05.

quicker than anybody else. McCorory did well. Goodness me what on earth

:08:06.:08:11.

was young Miller doing? She ran so wide, especially all the way around

:08:12.:08:16.

the last lap. She ran most of it in lane two. First let McCorory

:08:17.:08:22.

through, then she let Spencer through. She's halfway up the bend.

:08:23.:08:25.

There It's a crazy, crazy tactic that she played there. Remember when

:08:26.:08:29.

I said earlier when we were talking about the race is not experience,

:08:30.:08:32.

this one, it's going to be about speed. You can see the young athlete

:08:33.:08:37.

there, well, she certainly lacked experience and that could have cost

:08:38.:08:41.

her her place into the final. If she's missed out, she would be ruing

:08:42.:08:47.

that decision. She went so wide and letting Kaliese Spencer sneak in on

:08:48.:08:52.

the inside. The race was very quick, though. Certainly all four athletes

:08:53.:08:56.

in the top four would have won the first semifinal comfortably. So you

:08:57.:09:00.

can imagine how frustrated they will be. It was a good race, a good solid

:09:01.:09:04.

competition, exactly what we expected. These athletes are lying

:09:05.:09:09.

on the floor. They are exhausted. Well, they are examining the finish,

:09:10.:09:14.

photo finish. McCorory has been given first. Kaliese Spencer has

:09:15.:09:18.

been given second. But they are looking at the photo finish. We have

:09:19.:09:23.

no results yet. It looked as though the Russian hung on. Miller was

:09:24.:09:30.

finish being the quickest. But I think the Russian just hung on. If

:09:31.:09:33.

Miller doesn't get through, she will be looking back o on -- on the tape

:09:34.:09:38.

of that and will have learned a big lesson, the young 19-year-old from

:09:39.:09:41.

Bahamas. At the moment we're waiting for

:09:42.:09:43.

that. I'm not sure we will get it in time.

:09:44.:09:46.

Personal best for Kaliese Spencer. Now the heats of the men's 60 metres

:09:47.:10:02.

took place earlier this evening. James Dassal, the fastest man in the

:10:03.:10:05.

world this year was out injured. We had two representatives in Dwain

:10:06.:10:08.

Chambers and Richard Kilty. It will be Kilty finishing

:10:09.:10:29.

brilliantly. A hand in the air from the Iranian athlete. What a good

:10:30.:10:34.

finish. Look at him prancing, he looks like a little bit of a caged

:10:35.:10:38.

animal. He wants to get out there, show everybody what sort of shape

:10:39.:10:41.

he's in. It wasn't a brilliant start but goodness me, the last 20 metres,

:10:42.:10:45.

he stormed through. I think Carter did ease back a little. But

:10:46.:10:50.

nonetheless, very impressive. That equals his personal best. He's

:10:51.:10:54.

through to the semifinal. If there was ever a doubt whether this man

:10:55.:10:57.

should have come to these championships, he has just confirmed

:10:58.:11:00.

his position there. Look at that, out of the blocks, well, he

:11:01.:11:05.

approached it, like it was a final. There's important. No doubt he

:11:06.:11:08.

warmed up very well, got himself into a good state, aggressive, nice

:11:09.:11:13.

and controlled. There's no real tension in his shoulders. He's

:11:14.:11:16.

pumping his arms. Even the opportunity to give one of the

:11:17.:11:20.

fastest sprinters of all time Carter a bit of a glance and say, I've got

:11:21.:11:29.

that victory. Chambers gets a good start.

:11:30.:11:39.

It's chambers from Harris. Then it was tight after that for the third

:11:40.:11:48.

spot. A decent start and then maintained really nicely through the

:11:49.:11:52.

last 20 metres or so. Certainly Harris improved through

:11:53.:11:55.

that race. But very, very close, three of them.

:11:56.:12:05.

So job done. That's the main thing. It's a good performance by Dwayne.

:12:06.:12:18.

He executed the race exactly as he would like to, as a heat. 6. 57,

:12:19.:12:21.

rewarded with a swift time as well. Well done to Richard and Dwain.

:12:22.:12:45.

We'll see them in final action tomorrow. Earlier we saw Margaret

:12:46.:12:50.

Adeoye not quite make the 400 metres final. She's talking to us now.

:12:51.:12:56.

Fifth place, semifinal of the world Indoor Championships, season's best

:12:57.:12:59.

this morning. We're waiting for your time. What are your thoughts? It's

:13:00.:13:03.

mixed emotions. Because firstly, I was happy to make the individual

:13:04.:13:06.

because it's such a progression from last year, where I came here as the

:13:07.:13:10.

fifth relay runner and didn't get to run. So I just remember telling

:13:11.:13:13.

myself last year, I'm not coming here as the fifth person any more.

:13:14.:13:17.

To make the individual alone, I was happy with. Once I got here, I

:13:18.:13:20.

thought you know, what I don't want to just participate, I want to

:13:21.:13:24.

compete. I think I've done that. I'm pleased with how the weekend has

:13:25.:13:27.

gone so far. You've just pointed down on my notes and seen the times

:13:28.:13:31.

of the first semifinal, where we saw George did not start. Already they

:13:32.:13:36.

were one down. You saw the times. I know that you must be thinking now

:13:37.:13:41.

"what if? " As soon as we came up and saw to the start line, I was

:13:42.:13:45.

like, why don't I ever get it easy, you know? I've worked out that

:13:46.:13:49.

nothing ever really comes easy. I had to go through the tough heat

:13:50.:13:53.

today and hopefully I will be ready by summer to be racing these girls

:13:54.:13:58.

again. You get another chance and you'll be back with the relay team

:13:59.:14:02.

in the morning, reigning champions, you missed out getting a run two

:14:03.:14:07.

years ago, sorry last year, what are the thoughts and I'm sure you're

:14:08.:14:11.

hoping for a place in that quartet. Yeah, I'm getting comfortable and

:14:12.:14:15.

confident in this. I came here this morning not knowing what to expect,

:14:16.:14:20.

then when we got here in the semi, I thought I didn't get the nerves, oh,

:14:21.:14:24.

yeah go through the same routine, kind of how I feel when I ran the

:14:25.:14:28.

two. When I started running, it didn't feel as nervewracking as

:14:29.:14:32.

normal. I'm excited about the next two days. Hopefully I get a run. He

:14:33.:14:36.

might want fresh legs, we'll' see. Best of luck. Well done here. World

:14:37.:14:45.

indoor semifinalist. Congratulations. Thank you so much.

:14:46.:14:54.

Thank you. Well, another British athlete hoping

:14:55.:15:00.

to perform as well as he can here, Nigel Levine.

:15:01.:15:07.

Just to tidy it up, Miller has been given the nod by 1010th of a second,

:15:08.:15:13.

taken about five or six minutes for them to exam examine the finish. --

:15:14.:15:19.

100th of a second. So Miller does go through.

:15:20.:15:27.

Maslak, very impressive from the Czech Republic.

:15:28.:15:38.

Steele from Jamaica, 27 with a new personal best this year. Winner at

:15:39.:15:44.

the Birmingham Games after the Birmingham Grand Prix.

:15:45.:15:52.

And then, America represented by Clemons here, 23 years of age,

:15:53.:15:58.

having a cracking indoor season. He broke his time down to 45.60. Not

:15:59.:16:04.

all of the Americans have performed well. Somebody who's carried on his

:16:05.:16:11.

indoor season looked pretty good this morning, Lalonde Gordon, the

:16:12.:16:19.

man who tops the world list of those other two who aren't here from

:16:20.:16:31.

Trinidad and Tobago. Top three, no fastest losers.

:16:32.:16:40.

Levine will be hoping he can get to his best at least.

:16:41.:16:51.

Gordon right on the outside perhaps the favourite. But watch for Maslak

:16:52.:16:57.

in three, he looked pretty good also.

:16:58.:17:06.

Safely away first time. Gordon has started quickly. So has Maslak. Le

:17:07.:17:14.

vine trying to get himself involved. It's going to be tough. Very, very

:17:15.:17:20.

fast indeed. It's Maslak who started the quickest. Gordon has been left a

:17:21.:17:29.

bit on the bend. Estonia in second. Gordon at the back with the

:17:30.:17:35.

American, Clemons as well. Levine looking for room. Gordon trying to

:17:36.:17:39.

attack on the bend. Pushing and shoving going on. Steele trying to

:17:40.:17:43.

make history and the Americans trying too. There's no room there.

:17:44.:17:50.

Maslak storming away. Steele will have second spot, the American

:17:51.:17:55.

third. Clemons ahead of Gordon. What a terrible race the tall man from

:17:56.:18:03.

Trinidad and Tobago done. One man only for me ran a smart race there,

:18:04.:18:08.

that was Maslak. He's been good enough to do that. Controlled the

:18:09.:18:13.

race. Gordon was too slow, too far away. Everybody was chasing. Clemons

:18:14.:18:20.

was lucky to get through on the inside. This was the man who most

:18:21.:18:26.

impressed. Swiftly through the very first 200, 21.

:18:27.:18:32.

Coasting down the back straight, hitting the corner with no track in

:18:33.:18:39.

front of him and coming to see where the other runners were. Really

:18:40.:18:44.

destroyed them on that first 200 and set himself up perfectly well an

:18:45.:18:47.

everybody literally was scrapping around behind him. Trying to

:18:48.:18:51.

manoeuvre at great speed through the gaps. Did work for some. That man

:18:52.:18:55.

too me looks like the favourite. Very good indeed from Maslak. If he

:18:56.:19:09.

wasn't one of the favourites before, he certainly is now. Gordon,

:19:10.:19:15.

goodness me, that wasn't very good from him.

:19:16.:19:21.

Nigel Levine, 46.84 in fifth place behind Gordon.

:19:22.:19:38.

Disappointing for Nigel Levine. He said he thought he turned a

:19:39.:19:52.

corner, you know, in terms of his maturity and expectations.

:19:53.:19:59.

It just goes to show that the slightest lapse in concentration

:20:00.:20:03.

which happened in the heat for him, he found himself in that awful lane

:20:04.:20:08.

one and it was just too much hard work for him. Tried his best but it

:20:09.:20:14.

wasn't meant to Bo. 47.71 in Birmingham. -- 45.71. He seemed to

:20:15.:20:22.

have a certain game face on? Yes, he was strong. Usually has a great

:20:23.:20:26.

tactical brain which you need for the indoor 400m but it just didn't

:20:27.:20:33.

happen but he gave it everything. He attacked it. He made sure he was in

:20:34.:20:39.

contention after that first 200m, but just not good. It's a shame for

:20:40.:20:42.

him. He's a fighter as well so I'm sure

:20:43.:20:47.

he'll come back strong in the 4 X 4, there is a strong team there, medals

:20:48.:20:51.

numerous times in the last few years and they'll want to make amends? But

:20:52.:20:55.

what you notice from so many athletes is that when the

:20:56.:20:57.

opportunities present themselves, when you are fit, when you are

:20:58.:21:02.

healthy, you actually want to take the opportunities, but he will have

:21:03.:21:05.

to raise his game and confidence again to be part of that team and

:21:06.:21:10.

make sure they can get through and get the medal. We talked a lot about

:21:11.:21:19.

the pentathlon here. We sauna dene take the gold in that. Here we see

:21:20.:21:24.

her having the medal presented to her. A wonderful performance? It

:21:25.:21:29.

was. We don't get to hear the Dutch National Anthem very often in track

:21:30.:21:36.

and field. She competed really well. Very solid. That high jump is what

:21:37.:21:43.

really did the damage, you know. 193, which was far superior to

:21:44.:21:47.

everyone else in the field. She just then maintained the steady

:21:48.:21:51.

performance, ending on yet another personal best in the 8090, so well

:21:52.:21:57.

deserved for her -- 800. Steve Cram said what is it about the Dutch in

:21:58.:22:01.

their multidisciplines? They are very good, very strong. Watch out

:22:02.:22:04.

European Championships. Time to return to the action.

:22:05.:22:11.

Back to the track. Thank you very much. Here we go. The

:22:12.:22:19.

second heat of the 400 metres. Omelko. Gauntlett we just saw there

:22:20.:22:28.

as well. Omelko this morning ran a very good

:22:29.:22:37.

race. Polish-grown talent as well.

:22:38.:22:45.

David Verburg of the USA relay team which won the World Championships

:22:46.:22:48.

last year. Lifetime best of 44.75 which is

:22:49.:23:00.

pretty useful. Then the big three, Nery y Brenes,

:23:01.:23:09.

the Championship record holder. 45.11.

:23:10.:23:17.

Chris Brown, one of the fastest ever indoors.

:23:18.:23:26.

45. 78 is a lifetime best for him. Ran the first leg for the Bahamas

:23:27.:23:34.

relay team, beat the Americans at the London Olympics. And the Olympic

:23:35.:23:47.

silver medallist at just 18 years old, Luguelin Santos looking

:23:48.:23:57.

absolute absolutely almost delirious with passion and everything else.

:23:58.:24:05.

But really waiting for this 400 metres to start. It's going to be

:24:06.:24:12.

very interesting to see what makes the break for the inside first.

:24:13.:24:22.

Will it be Omelka or Gauntlett or one of the big three that I

:24:23.:24:30.

mentioned in lanes four, five, six. Brown, Santos.

:24:31.:24:40.

Heat two of the men's 400 metres. Away we go. Santos on the outside

:24:41.:24:53.

has been pressured by Chris Brown. He's been pressured by Brenes US

:24:54.:25:03.

himself. Verburrg coming up very quickly. Brown into the lead. Santos

:25:04.:25:11.

is very close. Santos on the shoulder of Verburg.

:25:12.:25:15.

Brown maintaining the lead. Brown just in the lead. Brown

:25:16.:25:28.

maintaining his first place. Digging in is Verburg. Santos. Santos

:25:29.:25:42.

completely out of it. First time around, once again, they

:25:43.:25:53.

seemed to just don't know what to do, they are moving out, drifting

:25:54.:25:58.

in. And it's causing some of the top players big problems, people we

:25:59.:26:03.

expect to really cruise through to the final, Santos, for example, the

:26:04.:26:06.

Olympic silver medallist is struggling in fourth, which means he

:26:07.:26:11.

is out, but Chris Brown, the man who's won more medals than anybody

:26:12.:26:17.

else at this event indoors, has made himself comfortably the winner and

:26:18.:26:22.

is through to the final. Yes, he looks the most relaxed of

:26:23.:26:28.

all of them. Absolutely superb. Winning it very comfortably indeed.

:26:29.:26:42.

Perfect timing. The winner Chris Brown in 46. 19.

:26:43.:26:54.

So there we have it. Brown undoubtedly the winner. Followed by

:26:55.:27:06.

Brenes. And Verburg of the US came in at a very creditable third place.

:27:07.:27:14.

I think it's fair to say it's been a day of mixed fortunes for Britain

:27:15.:27:20.

here in Sopol, Denise. We saw some stellar international performances.

:27:21.:27:24.

Sally Pearson delivered in the hurdles, so did Stephanie Porter of

:27:25.:27:35.

Great Britain. A mouth-watering thing to look forward to for

:27:36.:27:40.

tomorrow? Pearson looks in super form. She's ready to deliver for the

:27:41.:27:45.

championships big time. Tiffany is somebody who delivers time and

:27:46.:27:50.

again. When I spoke to her earlier after her race you could tell

:27:51.:27:57.

tomorrow it will open up? I think the bronze last year elevated her

:27:58.:28:02.

expectation. She knows he's been good -- she's been good enough but

:28:03.:28:06.

is not quite there. This time around, a new improved Tiffany and I

:28:07.:28:11.

do believe he's here for a medal. Let's hope she can deliver tomorrow.

:28:12.:28:19.

Let's hope the men can do so as well. We are back in the morning at

:28:20.:28:24.

10 am. Join us if you can. Two more sessions tomorrow. Action-packed.

:28:25.:28:30.

Obviously it's been a mixed day for Great Britain and Northern Ireland

:28:31.:28:35.

today. Disappointment for Laura Muir and Nigel Lescience, but impressive

:28:36.:28:41.

performances from lots of the others. -- Nigel Levine. Thanks for

:28:42.:28:45.

watching. Goodbye!
