Regretfully a young rider from Bolton, 20-year-old Malachi

:00:12.:00:17.

Mitchell-Thomas lost his life in Saturday's racing at the North West

:00:18.:00:21.

200. He was one of the rising stars of the sport. His family has

:00:22.:00:29.

expressed a wish that we continue with our highlights show this

:00:30.:00:30.

evening. The beautiful North Coast of

:00:31.:01:19.

Northern Ireland boasts some stunning scenery. It's home to

:01:20.:01:23.

well-known tourist attractions like the Giants Causeway, the character

:01:24.:01:32.

read Rob Ridge and mustn't Temple. The golf Open Championship will be

:01:33.:01:36.

played at Royal Portrush in a few years time but every me, this area

:01:37.:01:45.

is famous for one thing. Bikes! Welcome to our third highlights

:01:46.:01:52.

programme from this year's Boxall International Northwest to Hundred.

:01:53.:01:56.

Here is what is coming up tonight. Lots more high-speed action in the

:01:57.:02:03.

Superbike class. And also the Supertwins. We catch up with a

:02:04.:02:13.

former world champion, returning to the scene of his north-west victory.

:02:14.:02:20.

And road racing legend John McGuinness picks up one of

:02:21.:02:21.

motorsport's highest honours. So far we have had some breathtaking

:02:22.:02:36.

racing. Records broken, at the Northwest.

:02:37.:03:04.

This specially designed helmet belonging to Alistair Seeley, in

:03:05.:03:51.

pole position for the Superbikes. Is he the favourite? We have to say his

:03:52.:03:55.

favourite, he's now the biggest winner at the Northwest 200, but

:03:56.:03:59.

this is the daddy, the big race of the day, Superbikes, the ultimate

:04:00.:04:05.

bike that you can ride. The wind is behind them, speeds of at least 205

:04:06.:04:10.

miles an hour wind towards Coleraine. One man who wants this is

:04:11.:04:16.

Michael Dunlop, showing form in the last Superstock race, he will be

:04:17.:04:20.

forced to be reckoned with. We cannot wait.

:04:21.:04:29.

COMMENTATOR:, third race of the day. Michael Rutter, number eight. This

:04:30.:04:42.

is the big one. Seven laps. 220, 230 brake horsepower. Alistair Seeley

:04:43.:04:45.

climbing on top of the bike. There is the grid.

:04:46.:04:51.

What a front row. Not a bad second row. That could be good on the Tyco

:04:52.:05:01.

PM W. Gary Johnson... John McGinn is...

:05:02.:05:04.

That is some grid. They have had to put bigger fuel tanks on these

:05:05.:05:13.

bikes. They used to be able to come in and fill up with fuel. A lot of

:05:14.:05:18.

them had to fit a full 24 litre tank. Who will put that to best use?

:05:19.:05:24.

Michael Dunlop's camera facing rear words. He wants this so badly. Bruce

:05:25.:05:32.

Anstey hasn't yet got his podium finish. Look how far back he is

:05:33.:05:38.

starting. Way back on the four. Watch the lights.

:05:39.:05:45.

This first Superbike race of the weekend gets under way. Michael

:05:46.:05:53.

Rutter hanging it into Turn 1. Bruce Anstey from row four.

:05:54.:05:57.

Trying to fight his way. Bruce Anstey, not a good qualifier but we

:05:58.:06:05.

know how fast he is. The Honda, they have got that singing. Alistair

:06:06.:06:10.

Seeley in second. Lee Johnston in fourth. On board with Alistair

:06:11.:06:13.

Seeley, going back into third. Up towards the Mill Road Roundabout.

:06:14.:06:22.

Alistair Seeley, we know he is not fazed by a slow start but he did not

:06:23.:06:32.

want that. Wiley... It is Ben Wiley! No, no, that was bad. He hit the

:06:33.:06:39.

back... I cannot see, but he lost ground. There we go... Hickman, a

:06:40.:06:45.

really good start. John McGuinness, lapping faster. Bruce getting very

:06:46.:06:52.

racy off the grid. Looking for the inside. Down towards the corner.

:06:53.:06:59.

Back in real time... Look at this. Impressive stuff. Wriggling and

:07:00.:07:05.

weaving. All trying to squeeze through. Last orders at week's bark.

:07:06.:07:13.

Three bikes on the same side of the road, really tight. Rutter...

:07:14.:07:17.

Shoulder to shoulder with Alistair Seeley. Round the outside... Has he

:07:18.:07:24.

over done? The backbreaker on, everything on. Rutter going wide,

:07:25.:07:31.

losing a load of ground. All going on. We are on board with Bruce

:07:32.:07:35.

Anstey. He is right there with Michael Dunlop. Good for him. I

:07:36.:07:41.

think Michael Rutter had to set up to get out of the way. They were

:07:42.:07:44.

right in the mix, going for the corner. After all we said about this

:07:45.:07:52.

man taking it easy! He was not. Alistair Seeley, you can see from

:07:53.:07:56.

the helicopter, how far back he was. The Honda is singing. Gone through

:07:57.:08:01.

this speed trap at 209 miles an hour. That is the fastest we have

:08:02.:08:07.

ever seen. That was Bruce Anstey. This man at the front, Ian

:08:08.:08:13.

Hutchinson. Making his way to the front. I am not looking, I would

:08:14.:08:16.

prefer to be down here. This is much safer. Those boys are on it at the

:08:17.:08:26.

front. It has been a long time since we had a dry, sunny track to raise

:08:27.:08:30.

Superbikes on the Northwest 200. They are enjoying this outing. Gary

:08:31.:08:37.

Johnson, in second place, done a good job to get up to there. The

:08:38.:08:39.

number seven bike. Still close together as they go down

:08:40.:08:49.

towards the Metropole. Hopping in and out of the slipstream. I cannot

:08:50.:08:54.

imagine how Bruce Anstey got there. He passed about six people. Here he

:08:55.:09:03.

is again, Michael Dunlop. He has gone, no comment he hasn't,

:09:04.:09:05.

stillbirth. Dunlop easing him out. Through church corner, 210 miles an

:09:06.:09:20.

hour. We thought maybe it was a mistake, but there is no mistake

:09:21.:09:25.

today. We saw how far Bruce Anstey was and how fast he was. Some

:09:26.:09:28.

problems in qualifying but buying on it. Ever since he arrived, he has

:09:29.:09:36.

always had a podium. Riding for one now and they are racing over the

:09:37.:09:39.

coast road. This is, shoulder to shoulder. That is really close,

:09:40.:09:45.

Hutchinson leading, he would like to make it more than one win.

:09:46.:09:53.

Clive Paget is not going to believe that. Coming through in second,

:09:54.:10:02.

Bruce, at the end of Lap 1. Extraordinary. The Hawk

:10:03.:10:11.

Bruce, at the end of Lap 1. Michael Dunlop is our chauffeur.

:10:12.:10:13.

Hutchinson it is, they are also close. Going over the line, John

:10:14.:10:18.

McGinn is at the tail end of what is still a fairly long train for the

:10:19.:10:23.

leading group. Gary Johnston going well, credit for that, Lee Johnston,

:10:24.:10:28.

on the Superbike, he is hurting but he is ignoring it. Alistair

:10:29.:10:34.

Seeley... Got some work to do. Hasn't he? My goodness, that was

:10:35.:10:42.

Peter Hickman, he has missed a corner! And he lost a place as a

:10:43.:10:52.

result. But he is back on it, straight away. Michael Rutter

:10:53.:10:57.

benefited. Gary Johnson nipping past Bruce Anstey. We are with Bruce

:10:58.:11:05.

Anstey. Back to third. He was fastest here, interesting to see

:11:06.:11:09.

what happens. Down towards Station Corner, there is the helicopter. Has

:11:10.:11:15.

to get a bit of a lead to stay with these guys. It has to start the run

:11:16.:11:23.

from in a dive to Univeristy Corner, to keep up. You can see why far back

:11:24.:11:32.

Alistair Seeley is. Coming up towards Univeristy Corner... Losing

:11:33.:11:39.

somewhat time. Empty road in front. Michael Dunlop trying to squeeze

:11:40.:11:45.

down the inside. I think he has done that, or has he? Side-by-side with

:11:46.:11:52.

Lee Johnston. Hutchinson, Johnston, Bruce Anstey. On board in third

:11:53.:11:55.

place. Over the link road towards Ballysally Roundabout. Clive Paget,

:11:56.:12:04.

he is a genius with an engine and a motorcycle all-star the Honda team

:12:05.:12:09.

including John McGinn is and Conor Cummings, investigating to make it

:12:10.:12:16.

more aerodynamic. All developed by the world Superbike team. We are on

:12:17.:12:26.

board with Michael Dunlop. John McGinn is, essentially, the Honda he

:12:27.:12:32.

rode back here. They just keep doing things to bring it up to date and

:12:33.:12:36.

keep it competitive. They are closed up. Bruce Anstey, you wouldn't

:12:37.:12:45.

believe he is 46. His beard is 46! It is, it is a link him down. If

:12:46.:12:52.

they chop the bottom off, it would be 210. Here he comes, a combination

:12:53.:13:00.

of power. On the outside, surely. But Julie touching. They have

:13:01.:13:02.

touched. I think he came close. He lost a lot of time. He did not

:13:03.:13:16.

get back through those years. Running out of road. He tried to

:13:17.:13:21.

come out of the chicane I think in third gear. Down towards Metropole,

:13:22.:13:28.

three white. Lee Johnston, Michael Dunlop looking to get back in that

:13:29.:13:32.

position but not happening. And through the go, Hutchinson in the

:13:33.:13:38.

lead. Into Church Corner. It could be anyone these seven riders. Wake

:13:39.:13:45.

up the hill, on board with Bruce Anstey as he goes on the bridge. The

:13:46.:13:53.

bikes working so hard. 225 brake horsepower. Not much faster than

:13:54.:14:00.

Superstock at 210 is just ridiculous. That was a nice move

:14:01.:14:07.

from Bruce Anstey. Here they are spreading out. What else helped a

:14:08.:14:13.

great deal, racing Bruce showed up and we have not seen him all week.

:14:14.:14:20.

My goodness, he got that badly wrong. Rather than go up the slip

:14:21.:14:27.

road, it is easy to do that but you lose more time. A bit of grass

:14:28.:14:33.

tracking. On board with racing Bruce. As we go through the end of

:14:34.:14:38.

this lap and dark out onto the circuit. Hutchinson just in front.

:14:39.:14:43.

Michael Dunlop and Lee Johnston put up for me they were the favourite

:14:44.:14:49.

for this race. They are the main protagonists. At the start of the

:14:50.:14:54.

week I had no idea where to put my money down but Thursday morning I

:14:55.:14:58.

remember saying I would put all my money on Michael Dunlop. I'm still

:14:59.:15:04.

convinced this is his best chance of winning here. I think it is a

:15:05.:15:09.

rehearsal for the second Superbike race later on, the North West 200.

:15:10.:15:19.

Moved up into 14th now, making up the time. But will never catch these

:15:20.:15:27.

guys. You could get up into the top ten, Hutchinson again, he had

:15:28.:15:33.

gearbox problems for the top he said he could not get second year.

:15:34.:15:38.

Luckily no one went into the back of him. If the bike in front of you

:15:39.:15:44.

does not grab appear it is so easy to just ram them. We have seen this

:15:45.:15:52.

before, Michael Dunlop going straight past. The Hawk BMW really

:15:53.:15:58.

has got some horsepower. Here comes Bruce Anstey. Riding with him again,

:15:59.:16:04.

he pulled out the slipstream, it did not quite work. Hutchinson back in

:16:05.:16:09.

front weaving through. And it is Michael Rutter. Just swapping

:16:10.:16:17.

positions as if it is just a little traffic jam. Hickman coming back

:16:18.:16:23.

into contention as well. Over the link road we go, a very popular

:16:24.:16:29.

leader at the front of the pack. Michael Dunlop heads Hutchinson,

:16:30.:16:37.

Bruce Anstey and Michael Rutter. Then a couple of Honda bikes. John

:16:38.:16:53.

McGuinness and Cummins. They're doing it again, they just get on

:16:54.:16:58.

these big bikes and treat them as if they are small toys but they really

:16:59.:17:03.

are not. There is Michael Rutter, whose Anstey making up that time

:17:04.:17:09.

that he lost. He has got himself back together and I think

:17:10.:17:18.

Hutchinson, he may continue to miss those gears. The bike is in a huge

:17:19.:17:27.

knot, keeping the throttle and the whole time. We will see if he can

:17:28.:17:31.

get down through the gears this time. I think he will do. He has got

:17:32.:17:38.

it sorted out this time. There is the number three, Hawk BMW, chased

:17:39.:17:46.

by the Honda. Supposedly long in the tooth. Michael Dunlop, his advantage

:17:47.:17:58.

as they turn in, first and second place, over the white lines and on

:17:59.:18:03.

the gas. The crowd just enjoying this terrific race, loving the fact

:18:04.:18:07.

that Michael Dunlop is in front. They're all cheering and waving as

:18:08.:18:11.

Michael Dunlop pulls into the lead. Not over yet but Michael Dunlop

:18:12.:18:15.

thinks it might be, beginning to pull away. Beginning to ease away.

:18:16.:18:25.

Bruce clinging on to stop of the two I think the Honda is the faster, it

:18:26.:18:28.

sounds ridiculous as it is quite an old motorcycle but Clive Paget keeps

:18:29.:18:38.

working away on it. The Honda can be as fast as anything else out there

:18:39.:18:42.

and it is proving it. Ian Hutchinson in third place at the moment,

:18:43.:18:45.

Michael Rutter has not given up hope either. John McGuinness, right with

:18:46.:18:54.

these guys. It bodes well for him for the TT. Hanging in there quite

:18:55.:19:01.

comfortably. Some teams have different objectives and John

:19:02.:19:04.

McGuinness might be happy to see how easy it is to stay with this bunch

:19:05.:19:10.

as the go round. But Michael Dunlop, he only has one objective and that

:19:11.:19:13.

is the chequered flag at the end of the race. Of course the tyres will

:19:14.:19:18.

come into it. Hutchinson has a bit of a moment there, they will not be

:19:19.:19:25.

as good at the end of seven laps. These have a much harder compound in

:19:26.:19:31.

the middle of the tire. They have got to be quite a hard compound and

:19:32.:19:37.

stiffness in the centre to cope with that power. 225 brake horsepower

:19:38.:19:44.

reinforced through the air, it puts so much heat into the tyres. Bruce

:19:45.:19:51.

Anstey and Michael Dunlop easing away as they go around the

:19:52.:19:54.

roundabout. And the gap opens up again as they go on the throttle.

:19:55.:20:02.

Bruce Anstey looking at Michael Dunlop disappearing up the road. Not

:20:03.:20:08.

that far away, but not close any more. A little bit too far I think

:20:09.:20:15.

for him to be in the slipstream. Hutchinson will be using his rear

:20:16.:20:20.

brake trying to hold it back down. Michael Dunlop and not a lot behind.

:20:21.:20:26.

Objects in the mirror are further behind than you think. He is

:20:27.:20:32.

clearing off. It looks that way. Nice and steady into the Mather's

:20:33.:20:38.

Cross chicane. Quite handsomely going on, Michael Dunlop. Bruce the

:20:39.:20:44.

only one kind of going with him. Not really closing him down but he has

:20:45.:20:50.

split from the other group. It is not a breakaway group any more. A

:20:51.:20:54.

breakaway leader. I think the rest just beginning to really in third

:20:55.:21:01.

place. It looks like Michael Rutter. It is Michael Rutter, number eight

:21:02.:21:07.

going in there. There are close behind him. Still so close. And the

:21:08.:21:13.

race has been going on for a while. They have not opened up. Here is

:21:14.:21:24.

Bruce. Doing everything, really animated. That was animated!

:21:25.:21:34.

Hutchinson and Michael Rutter. And here is the number three, Dunlop,

:21:35.:21:37.

just slams that down into the corner. Bruce Anstey has gone down.

:21:38.:21:45.

He was on wide line. That is Church Corner. The Paget Honda is down.

:21:46.:21:52.

Bruce having a word with himself I think upfront. I suspect he is, I

:21:53.:21:58.

think that he missed the apex. He should've taken the road. That

:21:59.:22:03.

really will open things up. Change things enormously for Michael

:22:04.:22:08.

Dunlop, on the road by himself. Hutchinson in second and then

:22:09.:22:13.

Michael Rutter and Peter Hickman. Bruce Anstey hopefully we'll be fine

:22:14.:22:19.

after that. He went into those big foam cushions that absorb the

:22:20.:22:25.

impact. But he just missed the apex. We will ride on board with him on

:22:26.:22:31.

the replay. Squeezing those breaks, he goes in pretty hard. That would

:22:32.:22:42.

be a second gear corner. He tried to get it around and it is not happen.

:22:43.:22:45.

This is a battle between Michael Rutter and Peter Hickman. I wonder

:22:46.:22:51.

if they will carry on, there could be some debris on the track. We will

:22:52.:22:55.

have to find out. The red flags are out, and that will be for the

:22:56.:22:59.

incident with Bruce Anstey. They have all got to come back now and

:23:00.:23:04.

regroup. Such a crowd watching today. Treated to a splendid display

:23:05.:23:10.

of racing from the best road racers in the world. A fantastic race.

:23:11.:23:14.

Michael Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson, Michael Rutter the top three. Peter

:23:15.:23:23.

Hickman just off the podium. Michael, congratulations. What a way

:23:24.:23:29.

to win the race with an outright lap record as well. Not a bad case. A

:23:30.:23:39.

big difference from last year. I knew I could pull the pin and just

:23:40.:23:44.

decided to see if I could do one. The big bike working so well. We had

:23:45.:23:51.

a lot of changes to make up the boys worked all day after 30 practice.

:23:52.:23:58.

Just nice to win the big bike race. That is the way it goes. To win the

:23:59.:24:03.

Superbike is class. What does it mean to you here flying the flag for

:24:04.:24:08.

the Dunlop family, we know Alistair Seeley has already taken the record

:24:09.:24:12.

from your dad but for you important to put your name up in lights again?

:24:13.:24:20.

It is another one on my tally. The big machine, Fairplay, we have got

:24:21.:24:26.

sponsors but no big manufacturer pushing us. Stewart and Steve have

:24:27.:24:34.

done all they can. And how good was that lap to give you the race when?

:24:35.:24:42.

I made a couple of silly mistakes. Should have run a bit quicker in

:24:43.:24:48.

some places. I did not know I had got the lap record. I thought it was

:24:49.:25:00.

OK. Let's stick in another good one. I saw the flag and was not quite

:25:01.:25:01.

sure. But yes, good. One interested spectator here this

:25:02.:25:24.

year is the former world Superbike star Carl Fogarty. Well-known to

:25:25.:25:28.

many of course for his exploits in the television series I'm a

:25:29.:25:31.

celebrity get me out of here. The king of the jungle is fondly

:25:32.:25:36.

remembered in Northern Ireland for his North West 200 win back in 1993.

:25:37.:25:40.

Gavin Andrews spent the day with him.

:25:41.:25:50.

I have sunshine wherever I go! Ids the moment when you miss the

:25:51.:25:56.

bus? On a day like today, a circuit like this, I used to love racing

:25:57.:26:00.

here especially in this kind of weather. I feel nervous for these

:26:01.:26:06.

guys. How will they be feeling now? Like anything else, you just want

:26:07.:26:10.

the flag to drop and get on with it. It is just the hanging round, that

:26:11.:26:16.

is the worst bit. You just want to get going and do the best you can.

:26:17.:26:20.

How would you fancy going round on some of this new machinery? I would

:26:21.:26:26.

love it. Not sure about 600, but I would love it. Tell us about 1993,

:26:27.:26:33.

when it all came together? Just relief more than anything. Try to

:26:34.:26:38.

win the race a few years before that, on the Honda in 1991 and 1992.

:26:39.:26:47.

But we had reliability bottoms with the Honda. So it was more belief

:26:48.:26:52.

than anything to finally crossed the line and win the first race. I had

:26:53.:26:57.

been trying for so many years, it was a relief to finally win. Still a

:26:58.:27:03.

welcome return to the Northwest for Carl Fogarty one of the most

:27:04.:27:09.

decorated riders in motorcycling. Another one is John McGuinness, who

:27:10.:27:15.

recently was presented with one of the most prestigious awards in

:27:16.:27:21.

motorsport. It feels really cool, really special. It is hard to put

:27:22.:27:26.

into words. I have been racing a long time, 26 seasons. Never thought

:27:27.:27:35.

I would be sat in that group. With Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Stirling

:27:36.:27:43.

Moss. All behind us on the wall. We are in good company! We are here.

:27:44.:28:01.

I'm really touched by it. Really pleased that they recognised what I

:28:02.:28:08.

have achieved. I have put my heart and soul into it for years and nice

:28:09.:28:14.

to get the reward back. A gigantic tribute to extremely nice person. As

:28:15.:28:18.

a genuine person, very friendly person. Above all, a brilliantly

:28:19.:28:25.

talented rider. He rides not just with his body and reflexes but most

:28:26.:28:26.

importantly with his head. Everybody is a road race fan, I

:28:27.:28:42.

think. I think they just don't know it yet.

:28:43.:28:50.

The next race is for the Supertwins. The first race in this class was of

:28:51.:28:59.

course red flagged because of an accident involving Darren Cooper and

:29:00.:29:05.

Ryan Farquhar. Both were taken to hospital, Cooper released, Ryan

:29:06.:29:09.

Farquhar was airlifted to Belfast and underwent surgery. Cause the

:29:10.:29:15.

news from the hospital is more positive his team decided to race on

:29:16.:29:25.

today. We are doing this for Ryan, I hope he was racing, but it's what he

:29:26.:29:28.

would have wanted, we took a decision, in light of his recovery

:29:29.:29:35.

is coming along... Philip Jeromy is a former winner of this race, he

:29:36.:29:40.

must we one of the favourites. He is but he has three good guys in front

:29:41.:29:45.

of him. Ivan Lewis ten, previous winner, Martin Jessop who wants his

:29:46.:29:50.

first win. Peter Hickman who has been on the roster already and

:29:51.:29:54.

behind Tim Newcomer, malachite Mitchell Thomas who wants a rostrum

:29:55.:30:02.

at the Northwest 200. Let's join the commentary team. -- Malachi

:30:03.:30:10.

Mitchell-Thomas. COMMENTATOR: the Supertwins going

:30:11.:30:14.

ahead, the team says they want that to happen and every team

:30:15.:30:18.

understands. Darren Cooper will not be out there, nor will James

:30:19.:30:23.

Hillier, but we still have Ivan Lewis ten and he would like to add

:30:24.:30:27.

to that win that he took on Thursday night. A big chance for him, perhaps

:30:28.:30:34.

for Martin Jessop? Paul Jordan, here is the grid. Not all of these names

:30:35.:30:40.

will be out there. Ryan Farquhar and Dan Cooper missing. McWilliams, Paul

:30:41.:30:49.

Jordan, will be. Malachi Mitchell-Thomas in 10th place, did

:30:50.:30:53.

not enjoy his qualifying but says he races better than he practices. The

:30:54.:31:02.

weather continues to show its face to us in sunshine.

:31:03.:31:08.

Jordan getting away well. Ivan Lintin running straight on... Jeremy

:31:09.:31:19.

McWilliams, 99 was in there. Hopping into third. Danny Webb, number

:31:20.:31:25.

three, the back of him going into the rise... They do not really quite

:31:26.:31:34.

as much. 95 brake horsepower. On board with Michael Sweeney. Slower

:31:35.:31:37.

than the 600 Supersport, heavier. They are. These are without doubt

:31:38.:31:44.

the slowest bikes on the course but they normally produce great racing.

:31:45.:31:49.

Martin Lennon, frontwheel up in the air. Came off the front row, good

:31:50.:31:57.

start, back with James Calton. Mill Road Roundabout. Into the

:31:58.:32:02.

countryside for the first time. Here is the start... We are on board with

:32:03.:32:07.

James. Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, streaking through. Danny Webb,

:32:08.:32:14.

number three. In front of us, they go through Millbank Avenue. Back

:32:15.:32:20.

with the leaders. I then pulling the pain already, look at the advantage

:32:21.:32:27.

already. I don't think you can see leaders, you have got to said

:32:28.:32:31.

leader, Ivan has cleared off. The slipstream at work for Martin

:32:32.:32:37.

Jessop. His bike has been fast. They have done some work on the

:32:38.:32:42.

aerodynamics. It is working extremely well. Look at them, their

:32:43.:32:50.

shoulders. We are on board with Michael Sweeney. Most of these bikes

:32:51.:32:57.

start off as an ER six Kawasaki and get modified. Number 22... All

:32:58.:33:02.

Jordan. I don't know if he made to the corner but he was up on the

:33:03.:33:08.

grass. On the link road, coming back, conditions could not be

:33:09.:33:12.

better. Lovely day to go racing. Martin Jessop doing nicely, thank

:33:13.:33:17.

you. What the fans would like to see is a good result for K M R. Ryan

:33:18.:33:21.

Farquhar's class of racing. Ivan in slow motion, Martin Jessop

:33:22.:33:34.

behind him. You get to see all the suspension moving around, the guys,

:33:35.:33:39.

look at them, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, getting his head

:33:40.:33:46.

down. You can see the throttle posting as hard as he can. The

:33:47.:33:52.

Supertwins, Ryan Farquhar's class, the team want a result but lots of

:33:53.:33:58.

people want a result, Michael Sweeney, always goes racing to win.

:33:59.:34:03.

At the moment, Ivan Lintin doing the winning. Martin Jessop behind him.

:34:04.:34:08.

Something of a super twin specialist. Very much so, won his

:34:09.:34:14.

first TT in this class last year, one here on Thursday night. That was

:34:15.:34:21.

close enough, Danny Webb, number three. Ripping past. Ryan Farquhar

:34:22.:34:32.

and Cooper going out. He got the race win, he is leading, doing a

:34:33.:34:38.

great job here. Probably leading here tonight. The breakaway group at

:34:39.:34:43.

the front. Not as close as we expect the Supertwins to be. Part of the

:34:44.:34:47.

reason, all of those spaces on the grid. That is given Ivan Lintin the

:34:48.:34:55.

opportunity to break early. Not a long race. Not at all, on board with

:34:56.:35:00.

Michael Sweeney, using the slipstream, is he going through the

:35:01.:35:05.

middle? Malachi Mitchell-Thomas tipping it in in front of Jeromy

:35:06.:35:08.

McWilliams, McWilliams would love to win this race Ryan Farquhar who is

:35:09.:35:13.

recuperating in hospital. Fourth place, McWilliams. Following Malachi

:35:14.:35:21.

Mitchell-Thomas... It is all turns from here to the old Rob corner. Up

:35:22.:35:32.

towards Blackhill... If they are going to pull in Ivan Lintin, it

:35:33.:35:35.

will have to be done on the twist and turn. He has definitely pulled

:35:36.:35:42.

the pin, made his break, I think he has got away with it, other people

:35:43.:35:49.

might have other ideas. Malachi Mitchell-Thomas and third, Jeromy

:35:50.:35:53.

McWilliams close enough in fourth. Jeromy McWilliams changing bikes,

:35:54.:35:58.

looking around, seeing Martin Jessop, Jeromy McWilliams, 52,

:35:59.:36:02.

doesn't seem to be slowing at all, he has been riding lots of bikes.

:36:03.:36:12.

Jeromy McWilliams, very experienced. He knows he cannot... Look at

:36:13.:36:21.

this... Malachi Mitchell-Thomas... Alistair Seeley... Puts him up on

:36:22.:36:25.

the grass, I think Martin Jessop was not expecting that. I do not think

:36:26.:36:29.

he was, he did not need a second invitation, straight past. Malachi

:36:30.:36:33.

Mitchell-Thomas moving up a place, into second place. Jessop will not

:36:34.:36:40.

be impressed, the youngster... Well, it is racing. It is racing, a

:36:41.:36:44.

short-circuit move, we have seen Alistair Seeley do it in that

:36:45.:36:49.

chicane, few people have copied him, obvious this young has seen the

:36:50.:36:56.

videos. Over the grass, Jessop goes, understands he has room to do that,

:36:57.:37:00.

does not have done the right gear, grass and dirt on his tyres. Number

:37:01.:37:05.

40, take him a little file to clean up. Still swearing in his helmet.

:37:06.:37:13.

Malachi Mitchell-Thomas did not leave him a bunch of room. But he

:37:14.:37:18.

committed to the corner and there is only room for one motorcycle at that

:37:19.:37:22.

point but this man doesn't need to have any aggravation, he is already

:37:23.:37:26.

stretching that advantage, lap after lap. We came here with murder being

:37:27.:37:36.

lap older, Ivan Lintin to get to over 109 on Thursday night and there

:37:37.:37:40.

is a good chance it will go here. We are in the right direction, the

:37:41.:37:45.

wind... Stretching out the lead. This road is so narrow. If your car

:37:46.:37:50.

filled one side of it, that is how narrow it is. We take it down the

:37:51.:37:59.

right-hand side... That is James Calton again... Michael Sweeney

:38:00.:38:04.

coming back, these two will have a fair old battle. Ivan Lintin...

:38:05.:38:11.

Looking at his breaking ma, riding his line, pulling away. They are all

:38:12.:38:15.

tripping over one another, lap after lap, that is Danny Webb... That is

:38:16.:38:26.

one place up for everyone behind him. Second, Malachi

:38:27.:38:29.

Mitchell-Thomas. Martin Jessop in third. And look at the lead Ivan

:38:30.:38:37.

Lintin has got. That is not the slipstream of a lead. You would not

:38:38.:38:41.

think they can bridge that gap. He was very fast on Thursday night, it

:38:42.:38:48.

looks like Jessop is coming back. His head stays firmly down, he has

:38:49.:38:53.

got his position back and look at this... The slow motion shots. The

:38:54.:38:58.

rear tyre, deforming, trying to bite into the tarmac. You can see the

:38:59.:39:05.

eyes of Jessop, staring at Malachi Mitchell-Thomas. He has got his own

:39:06.:39:15.

back and he did it cleanly, we have seen some things on the long

:39:16.:39:18.

straights but none of that this time. Malachi Mitchell-Thomas has

:39:19.:39:23.

another chance. The inside of Jessop... The inside line. This is

:39:24.:39:30.

the slipstream, pulling the bike along. Realising there wasn't enough

:39:31.:39:38.

track to do so, pulling to the left. That gap doesn't seem to be

:39:39.:39:42.

diminishing. Those two are busy fighting... That must have touched,

:39:43.:39:50.

that was an elbow in the camera. Great racing. From these two, both

:39:51.:39:55.

of them, nice young chaps in the paddock but when you put your visor

:39:56.:39:59.

down, you put your helmet on... That was an elbow in the eye from

:40:00.:40:04.

Sweeney. I am sure that James Calton will not mind that and I am sure he

:40:05.:40:08.

will be looking for a chance... Look at Sweeney. Huge amount, I think he

:40:09.:40:14.

got out at the chicane really well. You see the back wheel. Nicely done.

:40:15.:40:24.

Putting it through, James Cannon ten, smart looking machine. All the

:40:25.:40:29.

time, Ivan Lintin, he seems to be mailing every apex. Getting in the

:40:30.:40:35.

right gears at every point. Carrying his speed. A perfect race for him.

:40:36.:40:41.

Stretching out even more. A lovely, stylish rider. But you do not see it

:40:42.:40:47.

very often, they are usually in the mix, rather like Sweeney. Martin

:40:48.:40:56.

Jessop deciding not to do the thing in the chicane! Will he do it next

:40:57.:41:01.

time? Not really close enough. I don't think so but I think he has

:41:02.:41:05.

already worked it out that his bike seems to be carrying everything,

:41:06.:41:10.

they worked out the aerodynamics. A lot of them will have different

:41:11.:41:16.

swinging arms... Changing all the bodywork. Lots gets changed. You can

:41:17.:41:22.

see Jessop working at, well out wide, into the dust. He wants to get

:41:23.:41:31.

close and sweep past on the run out towards University Corner. Just over

:41:32.:41:39.

half race distance. Ivan and ten will be looking at his pit board. I

:41:40.:41:44.

think Jessop has a good chance of getting past Malachi Mitchell-Thomas

:41:45.:41:47.

when they get to the slipstream area. Mill Road Roundabout, you go

:41:48.:41:53.

right, around the roundabout the wrong way, it is bumpy, dusty, you

:41:54.:42:00.

have got to get out of bed as fast as you can because you need every

:42:01.:42:04.

mile an hour going up this straight. You carry all the speed that you get

:42:05.:42:10.

on the exit. This is past the fuel station, heading towards a Station

:42:11.:42:14.

Corner, on Thursday night we had a problem with this... Hopefully

:42:15.:42:18.

tonight we will not have any of those issues. Bad lead looks like it

:42:19.:42:31.

is continuing. Even the Supertwins, 158-160 miles an hour, breathtaking.

:42:32.:42:35.

165 miles an hour through the speed trap. Look down there and see what I

:42:36.:42:43.

can see. Martin Jessop in front of Malachi Mitchell-Thomas, the

:42:44.:42:45.

slipstream has done its thing, carrying him past. I think it has a

:42:46.:42:51.

lot to do with aerodynamics, look at the different frontal areas. It is

:42:52.:42:57.

so important on these bikes, back with Sweeney. James has been doing

:42:58.:43:03.

this all race and they are probably going to carry on... Look at that

:43:04.:43:09.

Aquila, they will probably carry on. Valley Sally, a round they go...

:43:10.:43:14.

These bikes come naked from the shops, it is a bit of a

:43:15.:43:17.

do-it-yourself affairs so there is scope to do something. But of

:43:18.:43:22.

course, what is the biggest are problem? It is you. If you are a

:43:23.:43:28.

small rider and you can tuck yourself and it helps, these are

:43:29.:43:32.

narrow machines but you have just got to look at this bike, the

:43:33.:43:37.

riders, it looks a little bit prettier and smaller on the front

:43:38.:43:42.

because Jessop, he is not small, and Malachi Mitchell-Thomas is not a

:43:43.:43:44.

small person. He is not as tall... He leaves no gap, nice and tight.

:43:45.:44:02.

James Cowton coming through the Chicane, trying to get on Michael

:44:03.:44:08.

Sweeney as soon as they come out and get on the power again. Michael

:44:09.:44:19.

Sweeney looked over. They all run with different exhaust systems, some

:44:20.:44:25.

twin, some single pipes. Depending on what you have got the most power

:44:26.:44:31.

from. Coming up the other side. Sweeney looks across. Standing a bit

:44:32.:44:40.

on its nose. The front wheel came off the ground then. Just about. 95

:44:41.:44:47.

Rick was poor and they start off with about 65. There is just nothing

:44:48.:44:56.

in it. -- 95 Rick horsepower. In all honesty they are quite stretched.

:44:57.:45:02.

Meanwhile the race leader, Ivan Lintin, veering off into the middle

:45:03.:45:07.

distance. Jessop probably cannot see Ivan Lintin at this point. Sparks

:45:08.:45:13.

coming off, he just clipped the kerb with his exhaust. Another red flag

:45:14.:45:23.

in the super race. We never like to see the red flag. And we have a race

:45:24.:45:30.

result declared. Ivan Lintin wins his second race of the week on a red

:45:31.:45:36.

flag. Martin Jessopp, second. Jeremy McWilliams instead face.

:45:37.:45:46.

Congratulations, a double. Both in unfortunate circumstances, really. I

:45:47.:45:49.

have not seen a chequered flag properly yet. But I will take those

:45:50.:45:53.

winds from the event. Unfortunately Malachi

:45:54.:46:07.

Mitchell-Thomas died as a result of an incident on the coast road

:46:08.:46:11.

section of the course. He was treated by paramedics at the scene.

:46:12.:46:15.

But sadly they were unable to save his life. The 20-year-old, who was

:46:16.:46:22.

racing for the Cookstown -based John Burroughs team, was one of the

:46:23.:46:26.

brightest prospect of the sport. His father Kevin paid this moving

:46:27.:46:33.

tribute. I have lost my best friend, my son. But he died doing what he

:46:34.:46:41.

wanted to do. He lived for riding, he has raced since he was six years

:46:42.:46:47.

old. The crowds have taken to him, he was a fantastic personality. No

:46:48.:46:52.

one has a bad word to say about him. I want to thank the paramedics for

:46:53.:46:58.

trying to save him at the roadside and thank the organisers for putting

:46:59.:47:02.

on a fantastic event. The information that came out, the way

:47:03.:47:06.

they helped me, when things went wrong. It was a great event.

:47:07.:47:17.

Saddened by his loss. He was destined for great things. He was

:47:18.:47:22.

quite a talent. He had done great things prior to losing his life. His

:47:23.:47:28.

CV throughout the years has been one of fast tracking. Changing the rules

:47:29.:47:36.

to let him right in super Moto when he was too young for the European

:47:37.:47:40.

Championships. Every time someone said you could not do that we

:47:41.:47:46.

changed the grain and did it. It got us to where we are. We did not come

:47:47.:47:51.

as a big bank account, but through hard work and grit and determination

:47:52.:47:56.

and his desire to win races. I have never seen desire Mike had. How

:47:57.:48:01.

would you remember your son, who touched so many people here in

:48:02.:48:04.

Northern Ireland in this short space of time. A fantastic young man and a

:48:05.:48:13.

fantastic bike racer. The Northwest 200 abandoned then. A tragic way to

:48:14.:48:19.

end the day. A sad way for things to end. We started off with those great

:48:20.:48:24.

crowds, records being broken and then things went wrong. Malachi

:48:25.:48:27.

Mitchell-Thomas was a great lad, he had a super future in the sport, he

:48:28.:48:32.

was a rising star and things like this, just come to sudden end for

:48:33.:48:38.

him. Thank you very much indeed and thoughts with the family of Malachi

:48:39.:48:42.

Mitchell-Thomas from all of us here. It is goodbye.

:48:43.:48:48.
