Hello and a very warm welcome to our coverage of the Co-operative

:00:30.:00:38.

Funeralcare Scottish International Open. Yesterday, it was carnage,

:00:39.:00:43.

with former champions, top seeds and world champions crashing from the

:00:44.:00:50.

competition. One shock exit followed another, as we said goodbye to the

:00:51.:00:56.

four previous year 's winners. But have no fear, there was still plenty

:00:57.:01:02.

of pedigree left. Our first match pitted the Commonwealth Games gold

:01:03.:01:07.

medallist against Paul Foster's conqueror, Mark Royal. I feel

:01:08.:01:12.

confident following victory over Paul, so I feel I can go on and win

:01:13.:01:21.

the tournament. Our second game featured the 2015 world indoor

:01:22.:01:24.

runner-up, Andy Thomson, against Stewart Anderson. He will be a tough

:01:25.:01:31.

opponent. I played him last year and managed to win, but I am aware of

:01:32.:01:35.

how well he played against Nick Brett, so will be a hard game. Last

:01:36.:01:42.

but by no means least, 2008 champion Greg Harlow squared off against

:01:43.:01:45.

Jonathan Ross in the last of our quarterfinals. I have played

:01:46.:01:50.

Jonathan quite a bit in the past but not in recent times. He is going

:01:51.:01:56.

pretty good this week. This is how the draw looked at the start of the

:01:57.:02:00.

day. Jason Greenslade was up against Les Gillett.

:02:01.:02:10.

Let's focus on the match we were looking forward to, Mark Royal

:02:11.:02:19.

against Darren Burnett. Not many bowlers can be described as masters

:02:20.:02:23.

of the game, both inside and out, but Darren Burnett can. Multiple

:02:24.:02:29.

winner of British titles, plus a world Champion of champions. He is

:02:30.:02:37.

the complete bowler. Mark Royal may not be able to compete in terms of

:02:38.:02:42.

titles, but he is a great player with a game that can do real damage.

:02:43.:02:47.

Quiet off the green, but ruthless on it, he took the International open

:02:48.:02:51.

title in Wales a few years back and this week he has looked on top form.

:02:52.:02:58.

But Darren Burnett took the first set 8-5. We join it in the fourth

:02:59.:03:03.

game of the 2nd set with Mark Royal 2-1 in front.

:03:04.:03:17.

The heat in here, in terms of the bowling area, generally, is very

:03:18.:03:24.

hot. Obviously the heat exchangers are working well.

:03:25.:03:46.

APPLAUSE A good follow up.

:03:47.:04:46.

There is the connection for Mark Royal, if he wants to go just

:04:47.:04:50.

slightly narrower. Just dipped inside for the gap. That

:04:51.:05:11.

was a hard shot to play. It looked like it was perfect. And then, as if

:05:12.:05:17.

to say, now that you have gone past, watch the red bowl. It falls.

:05:18.:05:23.

If it had fallen already, he would have knocked against it.

:05:24.:05:43.

That does not really change anything. That green bowl was always

:05:44.:05:53.

in a good position. It is all down to whether Mark wants to play more

:05:54.:05:57.

weight at this, or play the same bowl again, and hope the gap has

:05:58.:05:59.

been closed down. Trying for the same shot again. It

:06:00.:06:15.

is difficult. It really years, but he is giving it a good go. He is

:06:16.:06:23.

close. Surely this time. Got it this time and made two. Beautifully done

:06:24.:06:27.

by Mark Royal, lovely shot. He kept the faith. He got his reward. That

:06:28.:06:39.

is tough, that really is a tough, tough shot to play. Ask any of the

:06:40.:06:49.

top players. They will tell you it is a low percentage shot. Darren his

:06:50.:06:53.

attacking. Well, if you had a shot of the day

:06:54.:07:11.

for the worst result, that has to be it. There are few more frustrating

:07:12.:07:19.

things in bowls than handing your opponent shots. But to do it when

:07:20.:07:25.

you had three bowls so close. He took all three out. It just seemed

:07:26.:07:36.

impossible. A magical mystery. Well, Darren got two back in the

:07:37.:07:40.

next end, thankfully for him. We rejoin it for the sixth end.

:07:41.:07:48.

The last time these gentlemen met on the world Bowls tour was the

:07:49.:07:50.

semifinal of the Welsh. The first set was tied 8-8, the 2nd set was

:07:51.:07:58.

won by Mark Royal, 7-4, and Mark Royal went on to take that title.

:07:59.:08:03.

The dates of those clashes are critical in many ways. Mark was

:08:04.:08:09.

flying high, especially in Wales. He has always played good bowls down

:08:10.:08:14.

there. A bit of a bogey tournament for some players, and others happen

:08:15.:08:19.

to enjoy it immensely. Simon Skelton was another one who did well down in

:08:20.:08:22.

South Wales. It is circumstances beyond the

:08:23.:08:41.

control of bowls organisations that there is no welcome now -- no Welsh

:08:42.:08:47.

open now. We all hope it returns. It was a good event.

:08:48.:09:14.

That was a nice line. Really nice line. You could see the bowl dipping

:09:15.:09:46.

in at the end of its travel, gently falling back.

:09:47.:09:56.

You would think he was happy with that. He is playing so well, he

:09:57.:10:05.

really is. So is Mark, to be fair. They are playing quality bowls in

:10:06.:10:09.

this match. Just to prove a point, here he comes. Look at this! It is

:10:10.:10:18.

brilliant. Absolutely brilliant stuff from both players. Two men on

:10:19.:10:27.

the top of their game. Mark Royal, using the

:10:28.:10:46.

I am almost scared to say that the shot looks like it is coming through

:10:47.:10:54.

there, but I am trying to see if there is any danger for him to take

:10:55.:10:59.

all his own bowls out again. But it surely has to. The re-spot position

:11:00.:11:07.

is over here. So any bounce of the jack to bring it into that position

:11:08.:11:13.

would be really good. At least he would be reducing the count down to

:11:14.:11:17.

a single. But Mark still has another would be reducing the count down to

:11:18.:12:48.

Brilliant, brilliant bowling. What an end of bowls that was. On target,

:12:49.:12:54.

running bowls. Great maximum 100% results. Without that, he was still

:12:55.:13:01.

two down, but it was just enough. That was him, trying to get the jack

:13:02.:13:06.

with the edge. Quite ably in end of bowls. Mark

:13:07.:13:10.

Royal took that set, which meant a tie-break.

:13:11.:13:36.

Three end tie-break, a single shot per end, and that is the way to

:13:37.:13:40.

start. A good reply. Gives him something to

:13:41.:13:58.

work off. He will have to start to attack this at some stage.

:13:59.:14:08.

Two of their last three meetings have gone to tie-breaks. Mark Royal

:14:09.:14:19.

has won both 2-0. Cover bowls going in already. I am surprised it is as

:14:20.:14:24.

deep as that. He will be looking for the re-spot, rather than the

:14:25.:14:27.

full-back position. That might have been a bit of a flyer.

:14:28.:14:43.

Trying to drive this off, get a connection on the jack. He needs to

:14:44.:14:50.

move it somehow. And somehow it just goes down the side.

:14:51.:14:58.

It was a pretty horrible gap to make. The edge of the red bowl would

:14:59.:15:02.

have taken the green one out. He would have been happy enough with

:15:03.:15:03.

that. The re-spot is covered. Darren is

:15:04.:15:31.

still looking for the edge of the green bowl. If he misses it, I would

:15:32.:15:36.

say a blocker is required because Darren is more than capable of

:15:37.:15:39.

edging this bowl off. It didn't go to the re-spot. It has

:15:40.:15:56.

gone in all the way. Very, very good strike. He is a touch, and he will

:15:57.:16:06.

stay there. Maximum results to follow that through. It could easily

:16:07.:16:10.

have bounced off the green one at the back. Bang on target, absolutely

:16:11.:16:19.

middled the jack. No guarantees that things go through when you hit one

:16:20.:16:24.

like that. But then he was desperately unlucky with the

:16:25.:16:31.

previous one, so... Time-out called. Mark Royal, with his first bowl one

:16:32.:16:35.

inch behind the jack, exactly where you want to be. This is a disaster

:16:36.:16:42.

in terms of trying to get to it. Nothing on the narrow side, no

:16:43.:16:47.

chance of playing the narrow side. He has to go opposite side and hope

:16:48.:16:51.

to sneak past his own bowl, probably two and a half feet. The left hand,

:16:52.:16:56.

his forehand. The way this pair have played, you

:16:57.:17:09.

would not bet against him. He has to give it a chance. There is no point

:17:10.:17:11.

in being short. This looks heavy. His opponent was looking at it,

:17:12.:17:27.

expecting it to drop in the ditch. It did not come back nearly as much

:17:28.:17:35.

as he thought it would. After the perfect opening bowl in the

:17:36.:17:40.

tie-break, Mark Royal was undone by the perfect driving bowl from Darren

:17:41.:17:44.

Burnett. It is an advantage to the Scot. He lost the last two

:17:45.:17:49.

tie-breaks against Mark Royal. A few years ago, the statistic was

:17:50.:18:14.

3-0. It would have been more like 2-1 for me, looking at it. Since

:18:15.:18:18.

then, Darren Burnett has been playing super stuff and it has

:18:19.:18:21.

reflected in his World Championship success. The Commonwealth Games. He

:18:22.:18:30.

has always been picking up titles. Four times world under 25s champion.

:18:31.:18:40.

His roll call of honours is impressive. Mark Royal last one a

:18:41.:18:50.

world ranking event in 2011 and has not been beyond the quarterfinals in

:18:51.:18:56.

his last 12 events. He has it all to do now.

:18:57.:19:13.

It is a good line. Just dropping inside. A good starter from both

:19:14.:19:23.

players. On the line again. Again, he looks

:19:24.:20:18.

like he is dipping inside nicely. He has. It is a narrow target. But the

:20:19.:20:33.

advantage for Darren is that obviously he is carrying that one

:20:34.:20:39.

end and can afford to take a risk. The re-spot is covered on one side.

:20:40.:20:44.

It has to be worth looking for the two bowls, with his ability to drive

:20:45.:20:46.

hard and accurately. He wanted to leave the jack. That is

:20:47.:21:06.

OK. That was the other option, bouncing it out into the re-spot. A

:21:07.:21:11.

bit of a distance, and Mark Royal does have two bites at it. Mark

:21:12.:21:16.

Royal would have been relieved when he saw the jack connecting that it

:21:17.:21:19.

was not chased into the ditch like last time. Now he has probably three

:21:20.:21:31.

and a half feet around the jack. The line looks OK. Does it have the

:21:32.:21:50.

power? Yes, it does. That is close enough. And Darren Burnett, going to

:21:51.:22:08.

see how far that bowl is. It is beatable. He will probably try and

:22:09.:22:18.

draw this. A big shot for Darren Burnett. He lost it. He had to go

:22:19.:22:34.

very wide. He does use a strong bias bowl. It is rare that it happens but

:22:35.:22:38.

he had no choice if he was going to play that side. He had to be very

:22:39.:22:48.

close to the side ditch. You could see he was trying to skirt the very

:22:49.:23:02.

edge. He did not miss it by much. It is annoying. From his reaction, he

:23:03.:23:07.

probably thought he was close. You always like to see what happens. But

:23:08.:23:13.

that is one of the problems with any single rink match. Winner takes all.

:23:14.:23:21.

A place in the semifinal awaits. You would always take last bowl over

:23:22.:23:37.

setting the jack length here. They are not doing that. The rules change

:23:38.:23:42.

again. This is the only time you can destroy the end and replay it, but

:23:43.:23:46.

you have to nominate it. You can only do it once but you can nominate

:23:47.:23:54.

as often as you wish. So this could go on for potentially three ends.

:23:55.:24:06.

This is a great opening bowl from Darren Burnett. Round it goes, falls

:24:07.:24:17.

down. You could hear the crowd. They are obviously a home crowd for

:24:18.:24:21.

Darren but there is a lot of respect out there as well for Mark Royal.

:24:22.:24:25.

This has been a fantastic game of holes, it really has. Full of good

:24:26.:24:30.

drawers, good weight shots, unfortunate results, the odd

:24:31.:24:42.

fortunate result as well. He would like that one back. The last place

:24:43.:24:47.

you want to be as right in front of the jack, just in case you want to

:24:48.:24:53.

drive your way out of trouble. That was perfect protection for Darren.

:24:54.:24:56.

He will not want to leave anything so he will come round.

:24:57.:25:07.

Oh, well, it falls the other side. That is a very good single shot at

:25:08.:25:16.

this stage in the match. It is beatable but it takes a special bowl

:25:17.:25:19.

to beat it. I thought it was always on the short

:25:20.:25:40.

side. Some effort, mind you. There is not going to be a destroyed end

:25:41.:25:45.

here. There is no way to drive the jack, the way the balls are sitting.

:25:46.:25:50.

Mark Royal will be forced into trying to draw this. Darren Burnett

:25:51.:25:54.

would be tempted to drop one short and force Mark Royal onto the other

:25:55.:25:59.

hand. The trouble is, he can play it both ways. That is the problem.

:26:00.:26:13.

Oh, dear. Well... I don't think Mark Royal will try to chip the bowl out.

:26:14.:26:29.

And that bowl might just be enough behind jack Hyde to stop the

:26:30.:26:36.

shoulder working perfectly. Even if it rested against it and fell, might

:26:37.:26:38.

not be enough. I don't think he has made it. Not

:26:39.:27:06.

enough. I have a feeling it is one to read. He hit it just a little bit

:27:07.:27:11.

thick. I think he hit it just a little bit thick. He needed to hit

:27:12.:27:17.

it just a little bit Finau. Yes, I little bit thinner and he was

:27:18.:27:22.

definitely coming in off the back bowl. This is interesting, because

:27:23.:27:34.

it is not up to Mark. It is now. He knew it was not enough. Good

:27:35.:27:39.

sportsmanship, I can tell you. You don't often see that at any level

:27:40.:27:45.

except the very top professionals. What a match. Top-class bowling, top

:27:46.:27:50.

result for Darren Burnett, the highest seed left in the tournament.

:27:51.:27:55.

He is in the semifinal. Hard work today. Absolutely. He has been

:27:56.:28:04.

playing great bowls and he is back to top form. He is really hard to

:28:05.:28:08.

beat, very consistent. I had to dig in. You were super consistent. You

:28:09.:28:14.

must have been happy with the way you were playing. Yes. Early in the

:28:15.:28:19.

match I probably ran too much, not really my style. Then I decided to

:28:20.:28:24.

try and improve my drawer and I'm certainly happy with the way I

:28:25.:28:29.

played. Congratulations to Darren Burnett, through to the semifinal.

:28:30.:28:34.

He took Commonwealth gold in Glasgow last year, coached by David Gourlay,

:28:35.:28:37.

who has now left and has been replaced by an experienced Welshman.

:28:38.:28:44.

I think a few people will look at it and say, why have we not got a

:28:45.:28:48.

Scottish head coach, but I don't think that necessarily has to be the

:28:49.:28:54.

case. The guys know John, he is high profile. And they respect him and

:28:55.:29:00.

that is the most important thing. I certainly feel I am privileged to be

:29:01.:29:05.

in that position. Scottish bowls is tremendous. They are up with the top

:29:06.:29:10.

nations in the world. Bowls in Scotland, they have a passion for it

:29:11.:29:16.

than any other country. Brazil and football would be similar. It is a

:29:17.:29:20.

privilege to do the job and a great responsibility. His credentials go

:29:21.:29:25.

without saying. He has played at the top level, Commonwealth Games, he

:29:26.:29:31.

understands what players go through. And Rona has been there at the

:29:32.:29:35.

highest level in the Olympics, winning a gold medal. She has been

:29:36.:29:39.

under pressure, as has John, but she has achieved a lot through curling

:29:40.:29:43.

and the changes that have come through curling as well. There are

:29:44.:29:47.

things that curling did 15 years ago that we can learn from. They bring

:29:48.:29:52.

slightly different aspects to the job, but combined they are a solid

:29:53.:29:59.

team. We work well together. He leaves the bits and bobs to me that

:30:00.:30:03.

he does not like to do. He has the knowledge and I need to implement

:30:04.:30:09.

it. I think her appointment is great for bowls. She is very high

:30:10.:30:13.

profile, comes from an Olympic programme, so she will bring a

:30:14.:30:20.

different skill set. I think she will take bowls a couple of rungs up

:30:21.:30:24.

the high performance ladder. She is well-suited to take us further up.

:30:25.:30:30.

The high-performance manager role for Bowls Scotland is to bring

:30:31.:30:40.

high-performance into the equation, whether it is psychology, training,

:30:41.:30:46.

whatever we can do to give them services to help them. Whatever we

:30:47.:30:51.

can do to win medals, we have to do it. Australia, they are bringing

:30:52.:30:58.

these high-performance programmes in. We have got to keep moving

:30:59.:31:04.

forward to stay on top where we are. We have also got a target ourselves

:31:05.:31:09.

in the World Championships. Obviously, the first important issue

:31:10.:31:15.

is to qualify for those championships. That is the first

:31:16.:31:20.

challenge ahead. John will be well respected by the squad. He has got

:31:21.:31:26.

great experience. Very level-headed, very approachable and

:31:27.:31:31.

he knows the game inside out. I think John will do really well in

:31:32.:31:35.

the job and bring the team altogether. We wish John Price and

:31:36.:31:47.

Rhona Howie all the best in their roles at Scottish bowls. Let's move

:31:48.:31:54.

onto the next quarterfinal. Greg Harlow signalled his intent with a 3

:31:55.:32:02.

in the second end. Ross had never been this far in the Scottish open

:32:03.:32:07.

and his prospects of progressing looked bleak as he lost the first

:32:08.:32:15.

set 10-1 after just seven ends. An uncharacteristically loose shot from

:32:16.:32:17.

Greg Harlow gave the Scott some encouragement and if we shot lead.

:32:18.:32:22.

He was finding his range in the fourth end. -- three shot lead. By

:32:23.:32:34.

the seventh end he was on his way to building and unassailable lead and

:32:35.:32:37.

forcing a tie-break, winning the second set, 8-3. The 2010 world

:32:38.:32:45.

champion took the initiative with a great drive to win the first end of

:32:46.:32:55.

the tie-break. And he found a good position early in the second end.

:32:56.:33:03.

And try as he might, Johnny Ross was unable to beat that with his

:33:04.:33:09.

remaining bowls so Greg Harlow was through to the semifinal against

:33:10.:33:17.

Darren Burnett, winning-1, 3-9, 2-0. The first semifinal will be Darren

:33:18.:33:21.

Burnett against Greg Harlow. Should be a cracker. Let's turn our

:33:22.:33:27.

attention to the other half of the draw, Andy Thomson against Stuart

:33:28.:33:29.

Anderson. The match of the tournament so far was the one in

:33:30.:33:36.

which Anderson played Nick Brett. The Scotsman conjured up a magical

:33:37.:33:42.

performance. He looks to have recaptured the form that saw him win

:33:43.:33:48.

the world title back in 2013. This fellow has uncanny ability to get

:33:49.:33:52.

the end of tournaments. He has won the bold title on three separate

:33:53.:33:55.

occasions and could have made it four if he had not met Alex Marshall

:33:56.:34:00.

in scintillating form earlier this year. Both were in good form in the

:34:01.:34:06.

first set. We join this in the eighth end, Anderson with his nose

:34:07.:34:16.

just in front. APPLAUSE

:34:17.:35:07.

Here's urging it forward. That which just it is going short. A slap of

:35:08.:36:01.

the hands together. The last thing he wanted to be. If anything he

:36:02.:36:05.

wanted to get to the second red bowl. Two shorts down in the last

:36:06.:36:13.

end is not a disaster. Three shots, and it is going to be tough.

:36:14.:37:54.

This is a loose end from Stewart Anderson. And we are talking in

:37:55.:38:05.

relative terms, a loose end. 14, 15 inches. Andy knows he can do better

:38:06.:38:18.

than that. It will have moved with this bowl, still a danger if the red

:38:19.:38:24.

bowl is still sitting in front at that angle with this forehand

:38:25.:38:27.

dipping around the short bowls, and here it comes. That was about

:38:28.:38:36.

getting to the jack before Stewart and forcing him into the weight

:38:37.:38:46.

shot. He has the best two back bowls, the two green. A little mixed

:38:47.:38:57.

up. He is allowed. Stuart, deep in concentration. There he goes. He has

:38:58.:39:04.

the position. Looking for the slip and the run-through. On their

:39:05.:39:09.

re-spot that is going to be really tight. I don't expect him to score

:39:10.:39:14.

all three but he will certainly rely on a nice situation. Two against him

:39:15.:39:21.

for definite, potentially three. He has turned it over. If you just

:39:22.:39:37.

loses one. Good hit. You would expect Andy to draw the shot. This

:39:38.:39:44.

is something they practice what on the re-spots. It is struggling. That

:39:45.:39:52.

looked lazy. That is a gift. Something went wrong there.

:39:53.:40:04.

Something wasn't right. It is just not like Andy to make that sort of

:40:05.:40:07.

mistake. Things continue to go wrong for Andy

:40:08.:40:17.

Thomson who lost five games. We rejoin it in the fourth.

:40:18.:40:29.

Good stuff. He is not playing badly. He has to find a way to get

:40:30.:40:39.

back into this second set. Andy might be tempted to come

:40:40.:41:14.

through this and try to take the two bowls away. Here he goes. He cannot

:41:15.:41:20.

afford to be wide. Is he going to get back in time? He just didn't get

:41:21.:41:31.

the angle. Still, one away. Jason was just that bit better. Since the

:41:32.:41:37.

second round I don't think anyone has played poorly, really. Just,

:41:38.:41:44.

some of the guys have been right on it, this week.

:41:45.:41:54.

Stewart Anderson had a great game against Nick Brett. Your bowl is 12

:41:55.:42:16.

inches. This is reminiscent of Stewart from two, three years ago.

:42:17.:42:22.

And Andy forced to go again. He went with a pile of weight that time. Not

:42:23.:42:29.

far away. You can see the set slipping away. Gets the outside Red

:42:30.:42:40.

Bull. Two of them will disappear. Now what do you do, put something on

:42:41.:42:46.

the re-spot and let Andy have another go, or block it? He is

:42:47.:43:07.

looking to drop in on its centre rink and block it, that is where the

:43:08.:43:21.

danger was. That is a shocking decision for Andy Thomson. If he

:43:22.:43:27.

goes again he has to do get close to this green bowl to push it in. He

:43:28.:43:35.

takes it out he loses another shot. There is no real draw on. He's going

:43:36.:43:43.

to take this on. He has. That was the danger of pushing something in,

:43:44.:43:52.

losing another shot. I cannot blame him playing it, though. He had to go

:43:53.:43:58.

for it. I don't think there was any choice in the matter. It is a

:43:59.:44:08.

horrible outcome. It was a clever bowl by Stewart to drop its slightly

:44:09.:44:12.

on the wind signed of the centre line. It left Andy with nothing.

:44:13.:44:19.

There was no draw shot and he decided to take a risk -- on the

:44:20.:44:28.

wide side. Stewart will close this down, be quite happy to lose the odd

:44:29.:44:34.

single over the next two or three ends. He can defend.

:44:35.:45:05.

Andy will be trying to chip away at this and try to score one, two shots

:45:06.:45:25.

over the next couple of end is, see if you can give himself a good run

:45:26.:45:30.

at Stewart. He has dropped short with this one again so there is an

:45:31.:45:38.

opportunity. Remember last season Andy Johnson came out on top on the

:45:39.:45:43.

tie-break. He won the first set, occasion, lost the second. Took the

:45:44.:45:53.

tie-break. And to score this end. He has since a chance, and he is coming

:45:54.:45:59.

round. -- needs to score. That is good stuff. Hasn't played a bad

:46:00.:46:10.

game. Andy retire from the outdoor side for the Commonwealth Games and

:46:11.:46:14.

World Championship and number of years ago. Still good enough to

:46:15.:46:17.

compete at that level, how doors, if he felt like it. A lot of people

:46:18.:46:21.

feel that they could still do with him. But other things are more

:46:22.:46:31.

important to him at the moment. Use into the coaching side as well, now.

:46:32.:46:39.

-- he is into. Has had a little stint with jersey. Can he come round

:46:40.:46:48.

here and draw a third? Does not want to leave it short. Where he has left

:46:49.:46:55.

it might just forced Stewart Anderson into the forehand. We

:46:56.:47:01.

thought he would go into the management side. Hasn't happened

:47:02.:47:08.

yet. I would imagine that with probably on the cards in the not too

:47:09.:47:16.

distant future. He's a good man to get in. He holds the respect of the

:47:17.:47:18.

players. He has forced Stewart on the

:47:19.:47:29.

beforehand and he might have played one. Will it get back in time? Not

:47:30.:47:37.

quite. It is his closest so far but Andy still looks like he is holding

:47:38.:47:41.

a couple. Two shots, needs to pick up this shop here. This is

:47:42.:47:51.

important, make the three. Get back what you lost in the last end. Just

:47:52.:47:58.

crossing the map a little bit to give himself some extra room and get

:47:59.:48:11.

around this short bowl. He has given this chance. It needs to hurry. It

:48:12.:48:17.

needs to run. The line is good. Looks like he is there. That

:48:18.:48:23.

confirms it. If he has made it, it is a good treble. Stewart has got a

:48:24.:48:28.

good eye on his head. That is a really good treble. Needs another

:48:29.:48:39.

score this end and the next one, to put a little bit of doubt into

:48:40.:48:47.

Stewart Anderson's head. Stewart Anderson over the two set 's has

:48:48.:48:59.

taken six straight ends. Stewart Anderson's loosest N so far, and

:49:00.:49:16.

Andy Thomson was able to punish him. A shorter length.

:49:17.:49:33.

Just so gently out of the hand. Stewart Anderson, 24 metres. This

:49:34.:49:49.

carpet is running a little bit slower and usual, perhaps. Just fed

:49:50.:50:02.

it out of the hand. -- feather it. It is running similar to my own

:50:03.:50:06.

green back home. This will not be totally dissimilar. It is also a

:50:07.:50:22.

blue carpet on both of our greens. We have had them for a while now,

:50:23.:50:35.

and very attractive they are, too. There will be many club players

:50:36.:50:44.

watching this and seen that with Stewart Anderson the jack Cullen has

:50:45.:50:47.

changed. All of a sudden you are through with one shot and your

:50:48.:50:54.

opponent is getting closer. -- the jack length.

:50:55.:51:02.

Has he got the right weight? The line is good. Got to be close with

:51:03.:51:15.

this one. Beautiful backhand, plucked out the perfect line and

:51:16.:51:18.

wait and that is not going to be easy to move, for Andy. I think he

:51:19.:51:25.

will wait to see if he can make it through the gap into the front green

:51:26.:51:35.

and cut the edge of the red, changing his angle slightly on the

:51:36.:51:39.

mat and there he goes. This is a hard shot to play. In he comes. He

:51:40.:51:46.

wanted to bowl out absolutely clean. As it is, everything is moving. The

:51:47.:51:52.

jack will go on the re-spot and Stewart Anderson will I ever least

:51:53.:51:57.

one, maybe even two. There is a red bowl right at the very back that has

:51:58.:52:03.

stayed on the rink. That was a shocker of a result for Andy. He has

:52:04.:52:09.

had a couple of horrible results of late. I know a few people that could

:52:10.:52:17.

draw this one and they are not even bowlers. Horrible results for Andy

:52:18.:52:22.

Thomson. You see, there it comes. Three shots, Stewart Anderson. This

:52:23.:52:41.

is the difference. If he gets the edge he is lying two or three shots

:52:42.:52:45.

and Stewart is in trouble, he gets the jack and he loses the three. And

:52:46.:52:50.

that finishes off this match. Indeed it did. Anderson took the seventh

:52:51.:52:56.

end, confirming his place in the semifinal.

:52:57.:52:59.

I almost feel like I want to give you a hug after that second set.

:53:00.:53:08.

That was hard work. I played a bad end as I'm sure you will get on to

:53:09.:53:12.

it shortly. I needed a good start in the second set, but after that, he

:53:13.:53:18.

just steam-rollered me. It was amazing, Stewart, because against

:53:19.:53:21.

Nick Brett you played a fantastic game but your line and length seems

:53:22.:53:25.

pretty good this week, you seem very confident. Is that fair comment?

:53:26.:53:31.

Yes, I think it is. I came into the rink quite confident I try to get

:53:32.:53:34.

the first couple of ends under my belt. Let's have a look at set one,

:53:35.:53:42.

this was hugely important to put the pressure on Andy and it meant the

:53:43.:53:46.

first set was pretty much yours. I played two good first bowls and the

:53:47.:53:54.

third one just kind of summed it up. That would mean four up and it made

:53:55.:53:59.

a massive difference. It would seem that any time you got close, Andy,

:54:00.:54:03.

he was able to get inside you. It is fair to say that I dipped in my

:54:04.:54:08.

performance today. I had come into this game quite confident. As

:54:09.:54:13.

Stewart says, it is little percentages. I was down on my game

:54:14.:54:18.

today. Stewart played very well, so I have no complaints. One of the

:54:19.:54:23.

shots we are going to have to pick up on is the second end of the

:54:24.:54:27.

second set. The jack is the re-spot and you got a draw for one, and

:54:28.:54:32.

Stewart was lying at this point. And it was just a little bit under. Can

:54:33.:54:38.

you tell me what the commentator said about this one? It was probably

:54:39.:54:42.

the worst bowl I have played in the last ten years. It was a bad bowl. I

:54:43.:54:51.

bet that he will have a field day with that one. Stewart, you might

:54:52.:54:55.

have thought you were dropping a shot there but you made two or

:54:56.:54:59.

three. Onwards and upwards in the second set from your point of view.

:55:00.:55:05.

I gave and the 100 bowls and he would draw at 100 times and it just

:55:06.:55:09.

happens occasionally, very few times it happens, really, but I am just

:55:10.:55:15.

glad to get the three, 5-0 up and just make sure that I scored in the

:55:16.:55:19.

next couple of ends. Congratulations to Stewart Anderson. He's playing

:55:20.:55:27.

well. Who would he be playing next's Jason Greenslade me the next

:55:28.:55:29.

best -- made a good start. The Welshman made the early running

:55:30.:55:45.

in the second set. Les Gillett' to rediscover the form of round two.

:55:46.:55:48.

The pressure from Greenslade was relentless. The 2004 champion

:55:49.:55:53.

peppering the jack as he scored in each of the first four ends of the

:55:54.:56:00.

second set. There was a glimmer of hope for Les Gillett in the fifth

:56:01.:56:08.

end but he took a two. And when Greenslade missed when playing with

:56:09.:56:13.

weight, the match was tied up at 4-4. At end seven, Les Gillett

:56:14.:56:21.

played a fine fourth shot but left the jack exposed. And Greenslade

:56:22.:56:34.

then picked up a single to nudge in front again. The man from the Bill

:56:35.:56:43.

of Glamorgan pressed home his advantage in the eighth end. -- the

:56:44.:56:54.

Vale of Glamorgan. And, when Les Gillick's final drive missed,

:56:55.:56:59.

Greenslade was into the semifinals with one end to spare. Now, we have

:57:00.:57:10.

the semifinal draw for the Scottish International Open. Stewart Anderson

:57:11.:57:13.

playing very well against the Welsh wizard, Jason Greenslade. Greg

:57:14.:57:18.

Harlow, who won here in 2008 against the 2014 world champion Darren

:57:19.:57:21.

Burnett. Some wonderful matches today. Tomorrow should be absolutely

:57:22.:57:30.

brilliant. What was the best shot? Corky will tell us. My shot of the

:57:31.:57:36.

day was taken from the match with Darren Burnett and Mark well. Mark

:57:37.:57:43.

Royal lost the first set, Darren Burnett was in supreme form but he

:57:44.:57:49.

was 2-1 down. Mark Royal missed the third shot but placed the fourth

:57:50.:57:52.

shot to perfection. Everything had to be right about this, line and

:57:53.:57:57.

wait and catching the jack at the right angle. Just watch this bowl.

:57:58.:58:03.

Beautiful, smooth delivery. Just misses the front bowl. Takes the

:58:04.:58:10.

jack to his back one, and it is completely hidden. It does not get

:58:11.:58:16.

any better than that as a trail shot on the portable rink. More

:58:17.:58:19.

importantly for me, what happened after that, it forced Darren Burnett

:58:20.:58:25.

into playing a weight shot, he was very unlucky but he lost four which

:58:26.:58:29.

gave Mark Royal the impetus to go on and win the set comfortably. That is

:58:30.:58:34.

why it is my shot of the day. That was an absolute peach by Mark Royal.

:58:35.:58:40.

Not good enough to get into the semifinals. We will be back at 10am

:58:41.:58:45.

tomorrow for live coverage of Jason Greenslade against Stewart Anderson

:58:46.:58:47.

and again at 1:45pm for Darren Greenslade against Stewart Anderson

:58:48.:58:50.

and again at 1:45pm for Darren Burnett against Greg Harlow. Today

:58:51.:58:55.

has been wonderful, tomorrow, I'm sure, will be fantastic. In the

:58:56.:59:00.

meantime, sleep well. We will.
