Le crowd far left feet. What a Hello, a warm welcome from the art-

:00:54.:00:58.

deco splendour that is the Troxy here at East London, which started

:00:59.:01:08.
:01:09.:01:10.

out as a cinema hall previously, but now it is set for the amateur

:01:10.:01:14.

boxing world championships. They are hoping to make their mark in a

:01:14.:01:21.

sport where Britain is getting better and better.

:01:21.:01:27.

We will meet the seven members of our GB Olympic boxing team. It is a

:01:27.:01:33.

dream come true, the hard work has paid off. It is going to be massive,

:01:33.:01:38.

I can't wait. I am going to put everything I have got into it.

:01:38.:01:43.

long as I am winning, that is what matters because everybody loves a

:01:43.:01:50.

winner. They will make history and feature in the women's boxing

:01:50.:01:59.

tournament, we will bring you coverage from China. And of course

:01:59.:02:07.

we will have action from the British championships, live.

:02:07.:02:12.

Joining me, as you can see, the irrepressible Steve Bunce through

:02:12.:02:21.

the earth -- afternoon. hopefully we will be seeing Allott

:02:21.:02:25.

2016 Olympians. Before that, let's have a look at how things have

:02:25.:02:29.

changed. Having a British boxer at the Olympics used to be a rare

:02:30.:02:39.
:02:40.:02:40.

feature, casting your mind back to 2004 when Amir Khan fort. Now every

:02:40.:02:44.

one of our boxers has a decent shout at the medal. Let's

:02:44.:02:54.
:02:54.:02:57.

officially introduce you to the official G B boxing team. I went to

:02:57.:03:01.

the world championships in November just gone, came away with a silver

:03:01.:03:05.

medal. I was standing there with a silver medal, just really

:03:05.:03:11.

frustrated. I wasn't happy, number two in the world. I am going to

:03:11.:03:16.

these Olympics and I will put everything I have got into it.

:03:16.:03:21.

like to think I am a nice boxer but when the going gets tough, I grit

:03:21.:03:29.

my teeth, and go to town. I think I can do everything relatively well.

:03:29.:03:36.

At the Olympic Games I really believe and I hope I can win a

:03:36.:03:42.

medal. I know it will be an amazing atmosphere, the crowd. Maybe when

:03:42.:03:48.

they seek 6 ft 220 stone fighters coming in, the crowd will get

:03:48.:03:52.

excited but I have got to stick to my game plan because as long as I

:03:52.:03:58.

am winning, that is what matters. Everyone loves a winner. I am 5 ft

:03:58.:04:03.

11 so I am quite tall for a lightweight. I have a good defence

:04:03.:04:09.

and fast hands. Obviously in the opening ceremony, the crowd

:04:09.:04:19.

screaming, the whole thing will be massive. I can't wait. I had six

:04:19.:04:23.

fights in the championships, I lost in the final, and I had to fight

:04:23.:04:31.

just to get there. I pick punches. I am number two in the world and if

:04:31.:04:36.

I trained really hard I reckon I will be the best out there.

:04:36.:04:39.

Qualifying at the World Championships has given me a good

:04:39.:04:48.

base to go on. The trainers are telling me what I can do, I just

:04:48.:04:51.

need to get my head down and hopefully I can come away with a

:04:51.:04:58.

medal. In 2004 I was watching Amir Khan in the Olympics and my whole

:04:58.:05:02.

family was cheering for him. To think I am going to the 2012

:05:02.:05:07.

Olympics, it is a dream come true. It just shows if you dedicate your

:05:07.:05:16.

life to something you can get the rewards. That is happening to me

:05:16.:05:22.

now and the training has paid off. We have a professional set-up in

:05:22.:05:31.

Sheffield and we are all dedicated. That is the magnificent seven. How

:05:31.:05:37.

good is this squad? Five of the seven are ranked inside the world

:05:37.:05:41.

governing body's top four so five of them, according to their

:05:41.:05:47.

rankings, should get the silver or gold medal position. Of the other

:05:47.:05:52.

two, they probably will gatecrash the top five or six. We have never

:05:52.:05:56.

had this. Even if we had bigger squads for the Olympics, we have

:05:57.:06:04.

never have that many boxers inside the top five, never. That is the

:06:04.:06:09.

seven men in 18 GB but what about the women? History will be made at

:06:09.:06:14.

London 2012 with the first-ever women's boxing tournament. We went

:06:14.:06:17.

to China for the world championships, not fighting just

:06:17.:06:24.

for a medal but for their places at London 2012. We were watching

:06:24.:06:28.

Natasha Jonas and Nicola Adams to find out what they could do in the

:06:28.:06:38.
:06:38.:06:39.

biggest week of their sporting lives.

:06:39.:06:44.

No matter where you are from in the world, to be a winner you need to

:06:44.:06:48.

be able to deal with pressure, and here at the Women's World Boxing

:06:48.:06:52.

Championships in China, Great Britain's boxers have certainly had

:06:52.:06:58.

their fair share. To qualify for London 2012, the very first

:06:58.:07:07.

Olympics to include women's boxing, Natasha Jonas, Nicholas -- Nicola

:07:07.:07:16.

Adams needed to appear in the top three and failure to do so would

:07:16.:07:21.

end their dream. As four Europeans could make the semi-finals in the

:07:21.:07:28.

light weight class, Natasha Jonas needed France to lose and to win.

:07:28.:07:33.

That combination would get her to London 2012. I remember standing in

:07:33.:07:43.
:07:43.:07:43.

the tunnel, and I got no doubt to the about so I never knew the final

:07:43.:07:49.

result. All I knew was things were going my way. The first round went

:07:49.:07:55.

well, I was up by a couple of points. Going into the third round,

:07:55.:08:01.

I was 11 points up, I was just telling myself to stay focused.

:08:01.:08:05.

Even though I knew I was 11 points going into the round, you never

:08:05.:08:12.

know until someone turns around and says you are a winner. I watched

:08:12.:08:20.

the panel, and as they lifted it up, I thought yes! My dad didn't know

:08:20.:08:27.

anything about it. Obviously he went back to the coaches and they

:08:27.:08:31.

searched France had got beaten and he Newall said you what it means.

:08:31.:08:38.

The Nicola Adams was next up in the flyweight division, she knew a win

:08:38.:08:42.

would see Natasha Jonas going to the Olympic Games. Standing in her

:08:43.:08:49.

way was a legend of women's boxing. I have the pressure on in the first

:08:50.:08:54.

round. I wanted to make sure I was dominant in the first round. Trying

:08:54.:09:00.

to get the point and get the lead, just to let her know I have come to

:09:00.:09:05.

fight today. I haven't come to let you walk all over me just because

:09:05.:09:12.

of who you are. I came to qualify. I think she started to come apart a

:09:12.:09:19.

little bit. I have qualified now, I have done the business. I just need

:09:19.:09:25.

to go and get a nice colour medal and then go for the Olympics.

:09:25.:09:29.

incredibly, despite securing a bronze medal by reaching the last

:09:29.:09:33.

four of the middleweight division, to qualify for London 20 twirled

:09:33.:09:38.

Savannah Marshall needed to win against her Russian opponent. Just

:09:38.:09:42.

as she did, when faced with tough opposition in the previous rounds,

:09:42.:09:47.

she left the ring with the victory. How did you keep that believe going

:09:47.:09:53.

because you had such difficulty about every round? I have seen the

:09:53.:09:58.

psychologist a few times, and it paid off. I just want to go to the

:09:58.:10:04.

Olympics and I are not even 21 yet. Savannah Marshall is through, and

:10:04.:10:08.

all three women through to the Olympics but what about Savannah

:10:09.:10:13.

Marshall - could she become the first British woman to win a world

:10:13.:10:19.

title? She was taking on an opponent from Azerbaijan. We joined

:10:19.:10:29.
:10:29.:11:00.

it with Savannah leading by two The coaches in the blue corner

:11:00.:11:06.

giving savanna Marshall clear instruction on how to approach this

:11:06.:11:16.
:11:16.:11:27.

Good work from the Azerbaijan boxer. A very good triple punch

:11:27.:11:37.

combination. Really good shots from her. Marshal needs to get back into

:11:37.:11:47.
:11:47.:12:14.

Are good right hand again, a good point scoring right hand from

:12:15.:12:24.
:12:25.:12:32.

Savannah Marshall. Just watch the shoulder. Was it that shoulder that

:12:32.:12:41.

caused this bloody nose? I think the result of that three punch

:12:41.:12:47.

combination from the Azerbaijan boxer. 30 seconds in the third

:12:47.:12:52.

round, Marshall with that two point advantage, determined to keep the

:12:52.:13:02.
:13:02.:13:14.

momentum going here. Using the long Keep that head up. Marshall has got

:13:14.:13:22.

to keep using the ring, stay light on her feet. Again, the shoulder.

:13:22.:13:32.
:13:32.:13:33.

That is the second time. There goes the bell. 6-6. A good ground for

:13:33.:13:38.

both boxers, a good scoring round for them, but Savannah Marshall

:13:38.:13:42.

still holds on to the advantage going into the fourth and final

:13:42.:13:52.
:13:52.:13:53.

round 13-11. A lovely hook with the left hand. Equally as effective

:13:53.:14:03.
:14:03.:14:06.

combinations. Left-to-right straight punch with a right hook

:14:06.:14:16.
:14:16.:14:16.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 41 seconds

:14:16.:14:58.

Good work again from the boxer in red.

:14:58.:15:08.
:15:08.:15:28.

The opening minute, not the best That's a good one-two combination,

:15:28.:15:31.

one over the top from Savannah Marshall. She puts some good scores

:15:32.:15:37.

and points on the board here. Needs to follow it up again. 35 seconds

:15:37.:15:46.

on the clock. Vystropova answers back. A good combination punch from

:15:46.:15:56.
:15:56.:15:56.

the Azerbaijani boxer. Marshall needs one more combination.

:15:56.:16:01.

Again, the doctor is asked to look at the blooded nose of the English

:16:01.:16:11.
:16:11.:16:21.

Puts that jab out again, Marshall. Needs to do that now n the last 15

:16:21.:16:25.

seconds of this final round. Stay strong is the call from the

:16:25.:16:35.
:16:35.:16:41.

Another one-two, right before the bell. That could be the point score

:16:41.:16:51.
:16:51.:16:51.

that gives it to Savannah Marshall. What a brilliant middleweight final.

:16:51.:17:01.
:17:01.:17:06.

Incredibly tense, very close. Is this the perfect birthday

:17:06.:17:11.

present for the English boxer. She's done it. Savannah Marshall

:17:11.:17:16.

takes the gold. A brilliant performance. Great news from China.

:17:16.:17:22.

Who better be joined by, than somebody involved in the initial

:17:22.:17:30.

tussle to join Team GB. What an amazing achievement from Savannah

:17:30.:17:33.

Marshall. She boxed brilliantly. She had one of the hardest routes

:17:33.:17:38.

to the final and won it in style. How big a boost is it to go there

:17:38.:17:42.

with three representatives and come back with three qualifyers?

:17:43.:17:46.

could not ask for anything better. There are three countries which

:17:46.:17:49.

have fulfilled all three places. That is ourselves and Russia.

:17:49.:17:55.

are not overstating this, are we - all three had a good shout at a

:17:55.:17:59.

medal at London 2012? It is not an overstatement. You have a good

:17:59.:18:04.

chance of making those medals shiny medals. Your reaction to what has

:18:04.:18:08.

happened in China? It has inevitable the way it has been

:18:08.:18:15.

building. We have looked at these three women. Once we worked out -

:18:15.:18:21.

we pushed them, training camps, European Championships, World

:18:21.:18:26.

Championships. In Barbados two years ago Savannah Marshall got the

:18:26.:18:31.

silver medal N the summer it will not go back to silver, it will stay

:18:31.:18:35.

at gold. A word for Savannah Marshall, because she is

:18:36.:18:39.

frightfully shy away from the ring. I think her boxing speaks for

:18:39.:18:44.

herself. She does not need to say much outside of the ring. She is a

:18:44.:18:50.

great boxer. A great technician. She is very calm in the ring for

:18:50.:18:58.

somebody who is so young. Let's find out about Nicola add damns.

:18:58.:19:03.

She was up against the home town favourite. Nicola had it all to do,

:19:03.:19:13.
:19:13.:19:16.

Of course the winner of this will surely set themselves up as

:19:16.:19:22.

favourite for the gold in London. 69 days to go until the opening

:19:22.:19:32.
:19:32.:19:32.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 41 seconds

:19:32.:21:00.

There's the good right-hand shot A good combination of punches from

:21:00.:21:04.

Ren. They could secure the world title for her. 20 seconds on the

:21:04.:21:12.

clock. Again, a nice grab from ren. A good one-two from Adams. Good,

:21:12.:21:16.

straight punching from the world number two.

:21:16.:21:21.

A Chinese cry of counting the clock down here. What a match! What a

:21:21.:21:26.

performance from both boxers. World-class.

:21:26.:21:34.

Was that enough? Was that enough from Nicola Adams

:21:34.:21:44.
:21:44.:21:45.

to take the gold away? Has Cancan Ren, of China, added her Third

:21:45.:21:49.

World title and she's done it. Once again Nicola Adams, of England,

:21:49.:21:54.

has to settle for the silver. A brave performance from the world

:21:54.:21:58.

number two. So, disappointment for Nicola. She

:21:58.:22:03.

is still one of the favourites for the Olympics, isn't she? She is

:22:03.:22:13.
:22:13.:22:13.

without a doubt. She has beaten the Chinese world champion. She has

:22:13.:22:18.

lost to Cancan Ren. She knows she can do it. Can she do it in her

:22:18.:22:23.

home town? She has a very good chance. How will it go down with

:22:23.:22:27.

the general public? They will love it. We will give it plenty of

:22:27.:22:32.

publicity. What we all want is more women's weights. They have got ten

:22:32.:22:36.

weights: We are only seeing three at the Olympics. Hopefully next

:22:36.:22:41.

Olympics we can have five. We could have had five or six women here. We

:22:41.:22:46.

are not only a good nation, we may be the top nation. Time now to

:22:46.:22:49.

concentrate on the amateur boxing here at The Troxy.

:22:49.:22:53.

A competitive afternoon of boxing ahead. The finalists have had to

:22:53.:22:58.

come through bouts culminating in last night's semi-finals. We start

:22:58.:23:08.
:23:08.:23:12.

our round-up with another boxing This year alone, I boxed the first

:23:12.:23:19.

tournament. I won gold there. That was a great achievement. In

:23:19.:23:27.

the GB this year, I have Commonwealth medalist. I have a

:23:27.:23:34.

good kid a lot of experience. There's me, who is Commonwealth

:23:34.:23:43.

youth medallist. A great category. I mainly switch it - that's the

:23:43.:23:48.

main way I box. When I need to, I come forward and put the pressure

:23:48.:23:54.

on the front foot. So long as I perform as well I know I can.

:23:54.:24:04.
:24:04.:24:04.

now for some live boxing. Our commentators are here.

:24:04.:24:09.

Thank you. You get that tingle. Two months until we kick off at the

:24:10.:24:16.

Olympic Games in London. The shouts will be for Britain. There is a new

:24:16.:24:21.

generation coming on. We are looking at talent which will come

:24:21.:24:27.

on at 2016, Brazil Games. Four years, Beijing, it has flown. It

:24:27.:24:33.

will fly to Brazil. We are looking out for talent coming through.

:24:33.:24:38.

Boxers from Wales, boxers from Scotland - that is only

:24:38.:24:43.

strengthening Great Britain's hand, isn't it? The development squad is

:24:43.:24:48.

developing to the podium. They are talented young lads. They will look

:24:48.:24:52.

for those result games. I am looking forward to this afternoon.

:24:52.:25:00.

Two of the boxers on the Development Squad will be next in

:25:00.:25:10.
:25:10.:25:22.

A bantamweight final at 56 kilos. It is a contest of three rounds

:25:22.:25:27.

between, and introducing you to you in the red corner, representing GB,

:25:27.:25:35.

Qais Ashfaq. And in the blue corner,

:25:35.:25:45.
:25:45.:25:56.

Well, this is a very good division in Britain. Not too far away the 56

:25:57.:26:01.

kilogram division. Both these boxes, there's Qais Ashfaq, representing

:26:01.:26:08.

Great Britain and the man representing Wales, Sean

:26:08.:26:14.

McGoldrick,. At the top of the tree is Luke Campbell, a serious

:26:14.:26:21.

contender in the Games this year. These two have probably boxed

:26:21.:26:25.

dozens, if not hundreds of rounds. They know each other well. From

:26:25.:26:31.

McGoldrick's tactics, he knows he has to close Ashfaq down. Ashfaq

:26:31.:26:37.

likes room. He is a counter puncher. He likes room to manoeuvre. That is

:26:37.:26:41.

why McGoldrick is on the front-foot straight away. He has to close that

:26:41.:26:47.

gap and get to his man. represented Wales in the

:26:47.:26:57.
:26:57.:27:02.

Commonwealth Games in Delhi. He got Sean McGoldrick, and we felt at

:27:02.:27:05.

ringside, had done enough to get the decision there and then.

:27:05.:27:09.

thought he was robed in the final, to be quite honest. He did enough

:27:09.:27:14.

to win it. It was overturned. It would have been nice on the day he

:27:14.:27:21.

got that gold medal. Ashfaq came against the English representative

:27:21.:27:26.

by 13-9. McGoldrick against another GB Development Squad member, Joe

:27:26.:27:33.

Ham, an old friend and old opponent, 17-14. Nothing much has changed in

:27:33.:27:38.

terms of how punching and scoring is judged. There are five judges at

:27:38.:27:48.
:27:48.:27:49.

ringside. Each have a pad in front of them. They press either button,

:27:49.:27:56.

if they feel it has gone to the head. That does not happen and you

:27:56.:28:00.

only see the total now. This will happen in the Olympics coming up

:28:00.:28:04.

here. You will 078 see the totals at the end of the -- only see the

:28:05.:28:09.

totals at the end of the round. The scores of the judges seem to be

:28:09.:28:12.

discarded and the middle three scores are averaged out. I know it

:28:12.:28:16.

sound very complicated. You don't have to take your shoes and socks

:28:16.:28:22.

off to do the sums. It is done by computer for you. We bring you the

:28:22.:28:28.

scores. It will give us a wee bit more to talk about. Gold gld gold

:28:28.:28:32.

started the round very well -- gold gld gold started the round very

:28:32.:28:39.

well. -- Sean McGoldrick started the round very well.

:28:39.:28:44.

McGoldrick has to quicken up a bit. He has the room and space and is

:28:44.:28:52.

boxing much quicker. That style of his is proving more awkward for the

:28:52.:28:56.

experienced Welshman. He's tall, Ashfaq and he's very clever A very

:28:56.:29:01.

good opening round indeed. A very competitive weight division.

:29:01.:29:05.

A close round. It will be interesting to see how it pans out

:29:05.:29:09.

with the scoring. There was good work from this man later on in the

:29:09.:29:14.

round. Working well with the grab. A great one-two there. He is back

:29:14.:29:17.

to the safety distance. McGoldrick trying to get to his man. He gets

:29:17.:29:27.
:29:27.:29:31.

caught there with the left hand. What is it like when Dahlia is to

:29:31.:29:36.

have had to Spar with the same partners? Of course, you are

:29:37.:29:40.

friends within the squad, working with each other every day, but the

:29:40.:29:45.

fact they have sparred hundreds of rounds together, they know each

:29:45.:29:52.

other inside out so you have got to get the edge of your opponent.

:29:52.:29:56.

have said down the years we have been at many a ringside together,

:29:57.:30:04.

it is great to see them taking it all in. When you see the eyes

:30:04.:30:14.
:30:14.:30:16.

wandering, you know he is not Round two, nothing between them,

Great Britain represented by the He is boxing very well on the back

:30:43.:30:50.

foot. We have got a cut the ring space off a little bit better. He

:30:50.:30:55.

can't afford to take punches coming in. He has got to quicken up with

:30:55.:31:03.

his feet. At the moment he is controlling things. What he can't

:31:03.:31:08.

do is allow McGoldrick to get inside him because the Welshman is

:31:08.:31:18.
:31:18.:31:27.

He played a very experienced boxer in the semis and then the

:31:27.:31:31.

controversial final, when he thought he had won it - as it

:31:31.:31:36.

turned out he did. He has got to concentrate on boxing from the

:31:36.:31:40.

centre of the ring. Once McGoldrick pushes him into the corners, that

:31:40.:31:48.

is when he gets success. I little right hand, right on target. This

:31:48.:31:58.
:31:58.:32:02.

It is all about getting your feet in the right position. You can't

:32:02.:32:06.

land the punched unless your feet are within range. That is what

:32:07.:32:16.
:32:17.:32:18.

McGoldrick is trying to do but he is finding it difficult. He is just

:32:18.:32:25.

controlling the range a lot better here, the Great Britain boxer.

:32:25.:32:32.

good left hand by Qais Ashfaq. great sequence, both taking good

:32:32.:32:42.
:32:42.:32:43.

shots. Qais Ashfaq again, back on the outside. A bit of a slip.

:32:43.:32:50.

boxes much better when he is on the outside, controlling his distance.

:32:50.:33:00.
:33:00.:33:06.

The jab is the bread and butter The last few seconds off another

:33:06.:33:11.

absorbing round, and again they will not be much in it but I have a

:33:11.:33:15.

feeling Qais Ashfaq will have done enough to open up a gap of a few

:33:15.:33:22.

points, but we will have to wait and see what the computer scoring

:33:22.:33:29.

system brings. Looking nice and relaxed and calm in his corner.

:33:29.:33:34.

Qais Ashfaq gets caught with the left hand, and also catches his

:33:34.:33:38.

opponent as it was coming in. The same sequence, just a different

:33:39.:33:46.

angle. McGoldrick on the front foot, coming forward, landing a good

:33:46.:33:55.

right hand. Qais Ashfaq is controlling things for me. He has

:33:55.:34:04.

indeed opened up a lead. They were level pegging at the start of the

:34:04.:34:14.
:34:14.:34:18.

McGoldrick straight into action, may have just pulled one back. A

:34:18.:34:24.

good body shot, Qais Ashfaq just complaining to the referee it was a

:34:24.:34:30.

little bit on the high side, above the waistband. The waistband is

:34:30.:34:40.
:34:40.:34:41.

picked out by the White on a boxing With a moving fighter you go

:34:41.:34:45.

downstairs to slow him down a little bit. It is easier with the

:34:45.:34:51.

taller man whose guard is pretty high as well. Qais Ashfaq can't

:34:51.:34:58.

afford to hold his feet. McGoldrick is very strong, and he has got to

:34:58.:35:02.

start gobbling up the attacks, going for one attack and then

:35:02.:35:06.

straight after launching into another one. The McGoldrick is

:35:06.:35:13.

falling into the trap you sometimes get, letting his lead left foot get

:35:13.:35:21.

inside the southpaw right foot of Qais Ashfaq. That will bring him on

:35:21.:35:28.

to the southpaw lead and the left hook. If he is also lacking

:35:28.:35:33.

accuracy with the left hand. That is mainly because he is on the back

:35:33.:35:42.

foot, moving away from the shot. He is better to concentrate on the

:35:42.:35:47.

Body Shop's, right up to the body, especially from McGoldrick, when he

:35:47.:35:51.

is in close. That is the second time Qais Ashfaq has slipped a

:35:51.:36:01.
:36:01.:36:05.

little bit. His boxing is superbly on the back foot. Switching styles,

:36:05.:36:11.

keeping the guard up. Good work from Qais Ashfaq here. Yes, just

:36:11.:36:15.

leaned forward and show them the South Paul ride, then immediately

:36:15.:36:25.
:36:25.:36:27.

switch back to the orthodox left hand. McGoldrick went all the way

:36:27.:36:34.

to the Commonwealth finals recently. He is taking a few shots himself,

:36:34.:36:39.

he has got to try to cover or better run the inside. Remember, he

:36:39.:36:44.

is on the danger area and he is getting caught but he is against a

:36:44.:36:53.

very talented man in Qais Ashfaq. 20 seconds to go. I think Qais

:36:53.:37:02.

Ashfaq has got this one. We have needed to see a few more

:37:02.:37:08.

combinations from McGoldrick. Too many single shots. The GB boxer has

:37:08.:37:14.

boxed very well here on the back foot. Another very, very good

:37:14.:37:24.
:37:24.:37:26.

contest. Campbell coming up, he is the representative in this division

:37:26.:37:36.
:37:36.:37:36.

against the Irishman John Nevin. I reckon this man has got it. Yes,

:37:36.:37:40.

the better quality work came from Qais Ashfaq, especially when

:37:40.:37:45.

McGoldrick started to get desperate. Worked well downstairs. This was

:37:45.:37:49.

good pressure from McGoldrick, but Qais Ashfaq working well on the

:37:50.:37:55.

back foot, kept his distance, and then back to safety. A lovely

:37:55.:38:01.

straight left hand from Qais Ashfaq, and a well-timed shot. The better

:38:01.:38:05.

skill came from Qais Ashfaq, and a lovely straight right hand. That is

:38:05.:38:13.

what I was talking about McGoldrick getting caught on the right hand

:38:13.:38:23.
:38:23.:38:34.

The winner of the bantamweight final and GP champion for 2012 by a

:38:34.:38:41.

score of 20-15, in the red corner Qais Ashfaq. A considerable victory

:38:41.:38:46.

for Qais Ashfaq over a man who has boxed in both the European

:38:46.:38:49.

Championships and the World Championships, and as the

:38:49.:38:55.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist. It is onwards and upwards for this

:38:55.:39:04.

19 year-old from Leeds. It was an excellent performance all way

:39:04.:39:09.

through, and a new champion who doesn't look as if he has broken

:39:09.:39:13.

sweat is at the ringside. punched the air when the verdict

:39:13.:39:17.

was announced, it shows how much this meant to you. It means a lot.

:39:17.:39:24.

He beat me two months ago in a tournament abroad, revenge is sweet,

:39:24.:39:28.

you know what I mean? It must have done your confidence a world of

:39:28.:39:32.

good to beat the Commonwealth champion. I am the Commonwealth

:39:32.:39:37.

Youth champion. If you put it into perspective, the boy just beat the

:39:37.:39:47.

man. For that was a real backs-to- the-wall performance today, wasn't

:39:47.:39:52.

And it will be, he has only just turned 19 and he doesn't have his

:39:52.:39:58.

man strength yet. He may be cocky, arrogant, he has good hands but he

:39:58.:40:03.

is lacking a bit of power. When he finds that power, he will not be

:40:03.:40:07.

against the ropes so often. Let's not forget, McGoldrick is a veteran

:40:07.:40:13.

of the world, the Commonwealth gold champion, and Qais Ashfaq is just a

:40:13.:40:19.

kid from Leeds. McGoldrick left it too late, maybe? Yes, but most of

:40:19.:40:24.

that is because Qais Ashfaq was not giving him any space. Once you cut

:40:24.:40:31.

down the ground get the end, it made it much harder for him. I like

:40:31.:40:37.

this kid, write his name down on the back of a fag packet because in

:40:37.:40:42.

2016 you will be putting money on him. If I smoke, I would do. Next

:40:42.:40:47.

up, the big guys at super- heavyweight, a grudge match between

:40:47.:40:55.

Frazer Clarke and Joseph Joyce. We caught up with a pretty determined

:40:55.:41:00.

Fraser ahead of the final. I have been training for two-and-a-half

:41:00.:41:04.

years now, and I have been surrounded by the Olympians now the

:41:04.:41:14.
:41:14.:41:18.

most of that time. They are great, there is no big-headed nurse, it is

:41:18.:41:24.

great. I just want to keep improving. I'd be cut so much from

:41:24.:41:29.

these guys, watching them training and how they conduct themselves. If

:41:29.:41:34.

we want to the Olympians, we have got to carry ourselves the same way

:41:34.:41:39.

and train the same way. I had a disappointment a few weeks ago

:41:39.:41:43.

against Joseph Joyce. I have trained hard since then so I will

:41:43.:41:50.

be trying to put a few wrongs right. The view put one of these chaps on

:41:50.:41:56.

the other shoulder, they would be about the size of a London bus that

:41:56.:42:02.

has been used to advertise London 2012 in the capital. Look at the

:42:02.:42:08.

size of these two, they are two of the biggest and tallest amateur

:42:08.:42:12.

super-heavyweight I have seen. are big men, and this is a grudge

:42:12.:42:17.

match. Joseph Joyce has two victories over Frazer Clarke so he

:42:17.:42:22.

has got to pull it out this time. They're having a little word with

:42:22.:42:27.

their respective boxers. Frazer Clarke is only 20 years of age,

:42:27.:42:34.

runner-up to Joseph Joyce in the GB championships and the more recent

:42:34.:42:44.
:42:44.:42:51.

ABH championships. -- ABA. At the moment it is 2-0 to the man in red.

:42:51.:43:01.
:43:01.:43:02.

He won a tournament in Estonia just In the blue corner, representing GB,

:43:02.:43:12.
:43:12.:43:12.

Frazer Clarke. Again, two boxers in the biggest of all divisions. They

:43:12.:43:18.

know each other pretty well. There is a little bit of a needle here

:43:18.:43:28.

because Frazer Clarke feels he has to put this record straight. There

:43:28.:43:33.

is not a lot of spare on them, they are in very good condition. The

:43:33.:43:37.

main man from a British point of view is Anthony Joshua who, if you

:43:37.:43:42.

have a little bit of money, and Steve Bunce should know better than

:43:42.:43:48.

to smoke and to be putting things on flak jackets, but he will be

:43:48.:43:52.

putting some money on Anthony Joshua in this particular division.

:43:52.:43:56.

Joyce has a good straight right hand, and he will be looking to

:43:56.:44:01.

land that over Frazer Clarke's left. Now and again, he drops his left

:44:01.:44:07.

hand, a fault he has got. He is open to a straight right, and that

:44:07.:44:11.

is the favourite punch of Joyce so Frazer Clarke has got to watch what

:44:11.:44:21.
:44:21.:44:25.

A pretty decent right hand from Frazer Clarke. The younger of the

:44:25.:44:30.

two by some five or six years. Well, that was a good solid shot. He'll

:44:30.:44:38.

be pleased with that one. A good stiff hand to follow. He fot his

:44:38.:44:47.

right got his right hand up to his face to avoid the left hook from

:44:47.:44:56.

He left himself open and Clarke came back with that. The ref saying

:44:56.:45:06.
:45:06.:45:08.

you have to hit with the knuckle They have started at a fair old

:45:08.:45:12.

pace. They are quite light on their feet for two enormous men. There is

:45:12.:45:15.

about 40 stone between them, I reckon.

:45:15.:45:19.

Joyce is starting to get into his rhythm. He is confident coming

:45:19.:45:29.
:45:29.:45:36.

forward, he's looking to land that A very good left-hand. It was the

:45:36.:45:41.

right hand of Joyce that started to disappear a little bit. He let it

:45:41.:45:44.

down down by a precious two or three inches. There's not much

:45:44.:45:49.

between them. For his money, I think Frazer Clarke has shaded this

:45:49.:45:53.

opening round. He's landing better shots. That was a straight left

:45:53.:46:01.

hand. That's a rare occasion there from a jab from Clarke, a super

:46:01.:46:06.

punch. He's probably going to get an extra point for that.

:46:06.:46:10.

Psychologically it is very, very important. Joyce is responding and

:46:10.:46:14.

coming straight back. This could go either way. You get the feeling

:46:14.:46:19.

that if somebody is silly enough to let their chin out to dry, it will

:46:19.:46:23.

get clipped and Joyce is responding. He knows he is conceding this

:46:23.:46:28.

opening round, particularly because of that. He's working hard to get

:46:29.:46:34.

back into it. That was a good round. Joyce is concentrating too much on

:46:34.:46:39.

that right hand there. Frazer Clarke boxed very well in that

:46:39.:46:47.

round. He does look pretty fresh, Frazer

:46:47.:46:57.
:46:57.:47:03.

A couple of good right hands from right hand coming up here from

:47:03.:47:05.

Joyce. Then he walks on to that left hook from Clarke. There's that

:47:05.:47:11.

straight left. That was a super punch from Frazer Clarke. A simple

:47:12.:47:17.

jab. So it was quite close this first round. I thought Frazer

:47:17.:47:27.
:47:27.:47:44.

Joseph Joyce straight into the centre of the ring. He did get

:47:44.:47:51.

caught with the right hand on the chin. You have to be patience - you

:47:51.:48:01.

have to have a plan. He's too confident at this stage, Joyce. It

:48:01.:48:05.

a terrific shot. Very, very powerful. He's being too erratic

:48:05.:48:13.

with it. That's better with the jab. Lurk Clarke working well with that

:48:13.:48:23.
:48:23.:48:41.

stiff -- Fraser Clarke working well Another good solid shot from Frazer

:48:41.:48:49.

Clarke. He just swerved out of the way of Joyce's attack there. A

:48:49.:48:54.

lovely counter punch there from Clarke. It is the straight punch

:48:54.:48:58.

where he's measuring the distance behind that punch. You can see

:48:58.:49:08.
:49:08.:49:23.

Joyce coming - always a danger with He's on the back foot now. He needs

:49:23.:49:28.

to steady himself and keep his composure. A little changing tactic

:49:28.:49:33.

from Joyce. What he's decided to do is get on the front foot, close the

:49:33.:49:39.

gap down and go for his man. He's risking a lot by doing it.

:49:39.:49:45.

A good right hand there from Joyce. And the super heavys, there's

:49:45.:49:55.
:49:55.:50:05.

always the chance, always the Joyce needs to keep his chin down

:50:05.:50:09.

more. Frazer Clarke is gaining confidence now.

:50:09.:50:19.
:50:19.:50:30.

Clarke may have done enough to keep himself aahead.

:50:30.:50:34.

-- ahead. I don't know if there's enough weight on it to score, but

:50:34.:50:39.

that was a good left from Joyce. Joyce has landed some good single-

:50:39.:50:49.
:50:49.:50:52.

-- I think Clarke may be ahead again there, Jim.

:50:52.:50:57.

Joyce came back into that in the last 30-40 seconds.

:50:57.:51:03.

Clarke is looking a bit on the tired side. Here is how he came

:51:03.:51:07.

back into the contest. To be fair to Clarke, he did block a few of

:51:07.:51:13.

those shots. That was a good combination from the man in blue.

:51:13.:51:18.

Good boxing from both lads there. Oh, look, they are catching each

:51:18.:51:26.

other, straight hands from Joyce. Joyce had some success there by

:51:26.:51:30.

pinning Frazer Clarke on the ropes. What a round for Joyce. Having got

:51:30.:51:34.

into the start of the round, at three points a drift, he's now one

:51:34.:51:38.

point ahead with three more minutes to go. Is he going to make it three

:51:39.:51:45.

out of three against this opponent? What a very good second round that

:51:45.:51:51.

was by big Joseph Joyce. I was intrigued, I always have been

:51:51.:51:58.

intrigued, that anybody that big can step over the top rope. Most

:51:58.:52:04.

duck underneath it. This fella did that. I have not seen anybody done

:52:04.:52:10.

that since the big heavyweight who used to put the fear of God into

:52:10.:52:20.
:52:20.:52:53.

opponents because he would step Joyce skill has that confidence

:52:53.:52:58.

coming forward. He needs to measure it with his

:52:58.:53:02.

left first, maybe his jab. Clarke trying to keep boxing together. He

:53:02.:53:08.

needs to move his head more. Needs to move that head a little

:53:08.:53:15.

bit more. There's Joyce again. It's Joyce sticking to the olded aage,

:53:15.:53:20.

"be first. Whatever you do, be first." Good defence by Joyce.

:53:20.:53:30.
:53:30.:53:43.

Saw that right hand come from his Seems to be more urgency from

:53:43.:53:50.

Clarke now. Maybe he is sensing he's behind with that jab. That's

:53:50.:53:55.

what he needs to do. Another good solid looking jab.

:53:55.:54:03.

Joyce was wobbling a little bit. He's got caught again. Body-shot by

:54:03.:54:07.

Clarke. Clarke needs to keep that up. A good scoring shot.

:54:07.:54:13.

Another terrific contest, as you would expect in the GB finals. This

:54:13.:54:23.
:54:23.:54:29.

is as good a heavy welterweight It has been fantastic from both

:54:29.:54:39.
:54:39.:54:54.

boxes A super right hand from Joyce A lot of blood come from his mouth

:54:54.:54:59.

now. He's in difficulty now. Joyce knows that he's probably got this

:54:59.:55:05.

one in the bag. A terrific round round, all the way through.

:55:05.:55:10.

Confidence from Joyce. He keeps coming forward, trying to land that

:55:10.:55:20.

right hand. What a great end to a good contest. Well... You can see

:55:20.:55:24.

the respect and admiration they have for each other. It is always

:55:24.:55:29.

difficult to box against somebody who you spire with. You have to

:55:29.:55:33.

give it 100%. You have to put friendship and everything else

:55:33.:55:38.

behind you. What a great round of boxing it was. There it was, that

:55:38.:55:43.

brought about that standing count. Super punch from Joyce. He needed

:55:43.:55:48.

it because Clarke was boxing well until that stage. Great work from

:55:48.:55:53.

both boxers. A terrific finish. Coming forward, they were prepared

:55:53.:55:57.

to take punches, to land punches. A great contest. Well, there was a

:55:57.:56:03.

lot of work to be done in that last round. It was the man in red,

:56:03.:56:08.

Joseph Joyce, who did most of the work. I am pretty sure he's got the

:56:09.:56:14.

decision. Ladies and gentleman show your

:56:14.:56:16.

appreciation for both boxers. They both deserve it.

:56:17.:56:26.
:56:27.:56:27.

APPLAUSE And the winner of the super

:56:27.:56:34.

heavyweight 91-plus kilo final and GB champion for 2012, by a score of

:56:34.:56:41.

37-36, in the red corner, Joseph Joyce.

:56:41.:56:47.

Just one between them. I thought perhaps Joyce had maybe earned his

:56:47.:56:53.

victory by more than that. It could not have been closer, 37-36. What a

:56:53.:56:59.

super scoring contest from the super heavyweights. He will be

:56:59.:57:03.

disappointed from having lost against the man across the ring

:57:03.:57:13.
:57:13.:57:15.

from him. At only 20, his day will Congratulations! That lived up to

:57:15.:57:21.

expectation? I enjoyed the bout. It went well. It was good to box him

:57:21.:57:26.

again. Were you aware you were behind on points in the second

:57:26.:57:30.

round? You pulled it out in that secretary orpbd round? He must have

:57:30.:57:38.

been -- second round? He must have been studying, working in the first

:57:38.:57:45.

round. I wanted to win. I did what I had to. And moving forward, you

:57:45.:57:55.
:57:55.:57:55.

are getting to spire with Joshua in the games, what is that doing to

:57:55.:58:02.

you and your confidence? It is very good at GB, plus the training and

:58:02.:58:11.

stuff. Well done - congratulations! OK. Quality boxing between Frazer

:58:11.:58:17.

Clarke and Joe Joyce. They are big boys and because they lack that

:58:17.:58:21.

international finesse, they lack defence, which is great for the

:58:21.:58:24.

spectators. Horrible if you train one of them and you are watching

:58:25.:58:29.

through your fingers. They went for it, like they have now, the third

:58:29.:58:34.

time in seven months. 73 points, split between two heavyweights, OK.

:58:34.:58:40.

That's, I am an oldish man - I have been around a long time - that is

:58:40.:58:47.

the highest quality I have ever seen a heavyweight fight reach.

:58:47.:58:51.

you think there has been a complacency?

:58:51.:58:56.

He had a good finish a few weeks ago. He beat phrase phrase last

:58:56.:59:00.

year in the GB championships. He was trying too hard with his right

:59:00.:59:06.

hand. Because he was waiting for the right hand... He's only a 20-

:59:06.:59:12.

year-old baby - he was pushing on. Joe threw it away by going right-

:59:12.:59:19.

hand happy. The quality of the boxing has been sensational, hasn't

:59:19.:59:22.

it? We had the final and it was the best finalsvy seen, going back

:59:22.:59:28.

about 30 years. H's more, there were 12 -- what's more, there were

:59:28.:59:35.

12 boxers there of 20 and under. We have such depth, such quality

:59:36.:59:39.

coming through, we are the envy of the world. That includes the

:59:39.:59:47.

Russians and the Cubans. We have seen a fight going back in history

:59:47.:59:57.
:59:57.:00:01.

would be the best fight in 50 years. Charlie flew in from Scotland, I

:00:01.:00:09.

like his style. Zack Davies has got something to prove, and 60 can

:00:09.:00:14.

grunt be his call for grabs. This is the type of fight that will not

:00:14.:00:19.

be international quality, but it will be entertainment quality. We

:00:19.:00:24.

are in the entertainment business, and we? My let's go ringside and

:00:24.:00:34.
:00:34.:00:37.

Joshua Taylor from Scotland will be Britain's representative in this

:00:37.:00:41.

division in 2012, and just in a couple of months' time. There has

:00:41.:00:49.

not been a Scotsman since Barcelona, when Brian Carr was there. You had

:00:50.:00:59.
:01:00.:01:00.

three of them in your squad in Seoul. Yes, Dave Anderson, he was a

:01:00.:01:06.

great boxer. Late these and gentlemen, about No. 6 is a light

:01:06.:01:11.

weight final at 60 kilos. A contest of three three-minute rounds

:01:12.:01:21.
:01:22.:01:24.

between and introducing, coming from the red corner Zack Davies. In

:01:24.:01:34.
:01:34.:01:36.

the blue corner, representing Scotland, Charles Flynn. Zack

:01:36.:01:46.
:01:46.:01:48.

Even though it is just after 3 o'clock on a Sunday afternoon,

:01:48.:01:53.

Charlie Flynn, the youngster in blue from Motherwell in Lanarkshire

:01:53.:01:57.

in Scotland looks like he should be tucked up in bed with his teddy

:01:57.:02:05.

bear. He looks like he is 12 years of age. He has quite a prospect, he

:02:05.:02:12.

has won Youth Championships on no fewer than five occasions. His

:02:12.:02:18.

opponent is that it much more experienced from Wales, Zak Davies.

:02:18.:02:25.

He has been on the GB Development squad for the last few years. He

:02:25.:02:34.

won a gold in Estonia just a month ago, a couple of very good wins. He

:02:34.:02:41.

beat the Norwegian 14-4. Scotland in blue, Wales in red. Charlie

:02:41.:02:50.

Flynn looks a nice little prospect. He does, Davies is keeping a nice

:02:50.:02:54.

tight guard so whenever Charlie Flint is throwing it seems to be

:02:54.:03:04.
:03:04.:03:09.

blocked and parried. Davies is the more experienced one here. Zack

:03:09.:03:13.

Davies has been on the development squad for three years so this is a

:03:13.:03:23.
:03:23.:03:25.

good opening. Nothing much between them in this opening round. A very

:03:25.:03:30.

cagey start, and they have similar styles - high and watertight

:03:30.:03:36.

defences. The neither of them want to make mistakes here but Zack

:03:36.:03:40.

Davies is blocking a lot of the body, trying to get as close to

:03:40.:03:49.

Flint as possible. -- to Charlie Flynn. A wide stance, and he hit

:03:49.:03:54.

his opponent with a very solid right town just underneath the left

:03:55.:04:00.

elbow of the Welshman. There is that shot round the corner again,

:04:00.:04:05.

and Charlie Flynn is going for a lot of body shots so he has been

:04:05.:04:11.

well schooled on are. He is concentrating on planting his feet,

:04:11.:04:20.

catching Charles Flynn with the odd jab. A bit wild by young Master

:04:20.:04:25.

Charlie Flynn but he is coming forward all the time. He pops his

:04:25.:04:35.
:04:35.:04:36.

shot out, then gets his hands straight up again. Zack Davies

:04:36.:04:40.

turned 20 in February, still a lot to go. This is a real test for

:04:41.:04:45.

young Charlie Flynn because he is boxing well but he has got to go

:04:45.:04:49.

through this watertight guard so that is the challenge for him. A

:04:49.:04:59.
:04:59.:05:00.

good round. Who has got the first round? I think Davies is just ahead.

:05:00.:05:04.

A little bit of action from the first round, good footwork by

:05:04.:05:09.

Charles Flynn. Avoided the right, then got caught by the left. Some

:05:09.:05:14.

good solid work into the body, good footwork, had to duck down a little

:05:14.:05:24.
:05:24.:05:34.

This is that -- Charles Flynn has got it. Rightly so, he scored well

:05:34.:05:44.
:05:44.:05:47.

to the body. you always felt when the computer scoring system came in

:05:47.:05:57.
:05:57.:05:58.

that the body shots would not count, but that has not happened. Charlie

:05:58.:06:02.

flew in coming forward, he got the silver in the recent Commonwealth

:06:02.:06:10.

Games youth tournament held on the Isle of Man. His won by one single

:06:10.:06:15.

point. It was a great experience for him, and Davies will know he is

:06:15.:06:20.

probably behind. Charles Flynn will be trying to pick him off, and I do

:06:20.:06:25.

like his defence. That was a good shot from Charlie Flynn. Davies

:06:25.:06:29.

just made a mistake, as he was coming forward dropped his hands a

:06:29.:06:34.

little bit and Charlie Flynn took advantage. I think you are right,

:06:34.:06:42.

Jim, Davies feels like his behind. He is walking up to too many.

:06:42.:06:51.

pace has picked up. What a good shot. Timed it perfectly, round the

:06:51.:06:59.

corner of the opponent's left. That was a typical counter-attack from

:06:59.:07:03.

Charles Flynn. He waited and waited. Davies was just about to launch his

:07:03.:07:08.

own attack, and he stepped in to land the right hand counter-attack.

:07:08.:07:18.
:07:18.:07:47.

Sue -- superb. We have two outstanding medal prospects - Selby

:07:47.:07:57.

in the bantamweight division. There is plenty to celebrate over. This

:07:57.:08:07.

is any one's it is a cracker. has impressed me is the way Charlie

:08:07.:08:11.

playing his commanding the ring, cutting off the escape route the

:08:11.:08:21.
:08:21.:08:21.

Welsh man is looking for. Good defence work. There is another left

:08:21.:08:24.

hook from Charlie for lend so he has landed some quality shots in

:08:24.:08:30.

this round. Keeping those hands up very nicely indeed with 20 seconds

:08:30.:08:35.

to go. Charles Flynn coming forward, he may have edged this round as

:08:35.:08:40.

well, so he will have increased his lead going into the third and final

:08:40.:08:48.

round. This would be a considerable scalp. A bit of a slap, which won't

:08:48.:08:53.

count. You have got a land with the knuckle part of that love on the

:08:53.:08:59.

target area with sufficient force. That has been another very good and

:08:59.:09:06.

very busy round. It was a good round. I think Charlie Flynn

:09:06.:09:11.

thought very well. The last 20 seconds, Davies started to catch

:09:11.:09:17.

him, but for the Scotsman earlier in the round have this right hand.

:09:17.:09:24.

Coming forward. There is again. He made Davies go back, and he was

:09:24.:09:28.

looking for the right hand constantly during that round. He

:09:28.:09:38.
:09:38.:09:39.

caught Davies with some excellent punches. One round - keep focused,

:09:39.:09:47.

shots mid-range, work very hard. We have got to do it. He has been told

:09:47.:09:53.

to get up close to his man. The air was only one point between them so

:09:53.:09:56.

that little flurry at the end may have picked up some points for

:09:56.:10:06.

Davies. This is there for the taking. Will it be the teenager in

:10:06.:10:11.

bloom from Scotland, or the Welshman Zack Davies who only

:10:11.:10:16.

turned 20 himself in February? can't afford to get to confident on

:10:16.:10:21.

the front foot. You go forward, you catch your opponent with punches.

:10:21.:10:28.

If you get sloppy, you can walk on to counters and that is what

:10:28.:10:35.

happened to Zack Davies in the last A good right hand, a straight right

:10:35.:10:42.

hand right down the middle by Charlie Flynn. Davies just slowing

:10:42.:10:51.

a little bit now. Again, Charles Flynn gets regard all. One little

:10:51.:10:55.

flurry could swing this contest, and there was not a battle from the

:10:55.:11:00.

Welsh month. He is brimming with confidence now. Charles Flynn is

:11:00.:11:04.

still just a baby coming forward, just got caught by a good right

:11:04.:11:09.

hand from Davies. Davies may have turned the corner now. He is

:11:09.:11:15.

starting to battle back, bringing Charlie playing on to the punchers.

:11:15.:11:18.

After Charles Flynn has landed the shots, he has got to get his guard

:11:18.:11:28.
:11:28.:11:29.

If Charles Flynn keeps progressing at this rate, what a prospect he

:11:29.:11:36.

will be for the Commonwealth Games. He is a baby, and he will develop.

:11:36.:11:44.

But this is not over yet. Charles Flynn needs a big finish now, and

:11:44.:11:49.

for my money Davies has just eased ahead. Charles Flynn has got a lot

:11:49.:11:59.
:11:59.:12:00.

to do. Davies response, the hands dropping a have a -- dropping a

:12:01.:12:07.

little bit. His coach was saying made to short range so when he is

:12:07.:12:13.

in the distance he has got to throw some shots. A bit of a slapping

:12:13.:12:19.

right hand, but it landed. I would not like to bet anyone's mortgage

:12:19.:12:29.

on this one, let alone yours. is a close one. There is a bit of a

:12:29.:12:39.
:12:39.:12:44.

problem - has Charlie Fleming got a cut? -- Flynn. I think Davies has

:12:44.:12:49.

pulled it round to be honest, but Charlie Flint is starting to come

:12:49.:12:59.
:12:59.:13:04.

I think Charles Flynn is running out of time. A great shot, great

:13:04.:13:10.

little left hand from the Scot. Is it going to be enough in another

:13:10.:13:17.

cracking contest? And again. Slipped to his left, pulled that

:13:17.:13:22.

left shot round again. He just showed his experience there,

:13:22.:13:26.

turning to southpaw. This is a great contest either way.

:13:27.:13:31.

Championship boxing in a championship final from two

:13:32.:13:35.

champions of their country. What more could you ask for? They have

:13:35.:13:41.

given it just about everything. Charles Flynn ahead at the end of

:13:41.:13:45.

the first and second, but will he be ahead at the end of the third

:13:45.:13:51.

when it matters? A good sequence from Davies, and he put a few of

:13:51.:13:59.

those together in the last round. Super skills, a very talented

:13:59.:14:05.

Scotsman. The shots from Charles Flynn were maybe the crisper and

:14:05.:14:12.

the cleaner in that round. It is all down to the judges. What have

:14:12.:14:22.
:14:22.:14:24.

they decided? Ladies and gentlemen, good are askew to show your

:14:24.:14:34.
:14:34.:14:49.

And the winner of the light weigh, 60 kilo champion. A score at 24-all.

:14:49.:14:59.
:14:59.:15:07.

After countback, the score was 109- 111. The winner in the blue corner

:15:07.:15:11.

Charles Flynn. Representing Scotland. It went to countback. I

:15:11.:15:16.

don't think we will see anything as close T number of shots landed in

:15:16.:15:23.

total was 111, to 109 in favour of Charles Flynn.

:15:23.:15:27.

The new teenage Scottish sensation has taken a well-earned rest, but

:15:27.:15:32.

he's about to talk to Andy. Congratulations! How does it feel?

:15:32.:15:36.

You have just beaten a seasoned international? At love work. The

:15:36.:15:42.

coach has put a lot of work into me. Constantly every day of the week,

:15:42.:15:50.

training, sprints, great thanks to my trainer and physios. It was a

:15:50.:15:54.

hard fight. I just pulled it off. This is important going forward

:15:54.:16:00.

because the GB coachs will look at you now? Good to be in the GB camp

:16:00.:16:04.

and get the experience. Different tactics, different movements. It's

:16:04.:16:08.

a really good opportunity. You will be the next generation which will

:16:08.:16:16.

head to the next Olympic Games. The Commonwealth games will be - so

:16:16.:16:20.

great for your confidence? Different countries, different

:16:20.:16:29.

boxers, different styles. Constantly building. Charles Flynn

:16:29.:16:33.

- the first time you have seen him in action. First time I have seen

:16:33.:16:37.

in the flesh. I got reports yesterday. They said, he looks like

:16:37.:16:46.

a little pro. When I was watching him, it looked like a 16-year-old

:16:46.:16:52.

Ricky Hatton. He has the same hair. It was like watching him. Same skin

:16:52.:16:55.

colour, same shot. I thought the decision was right, don't get me

:16:55.:16:59.

wrong - I know it went to the countback, which is a complicated

:16:59.:17:04.

thing to explain, but I think overall the right boy and he is a

:17:04.:17:10.

boy, 18, the right boy won. If he goes on to achieve half of his idle,

:17:10.:17:20.
:17:20.:17:30.

he will be doing some. The -- McTaggarth got hit. He has -- could

:17:30.:17:36.

not have a style further away from the real maestro, arguably the

:17:36.:17:45.

greatest amateur boxer of all time, Dick McTaggarth. If he takes his

:17:45.:17:49.

natural aggression at 18, more than that, after that he's got a great

:17:49.:17:52.

career. The timing could be good as well.

:17:52.:17:57.

They happen to be in Glasgow. The Scottish fans will get behind him.

:17:57.:18:02.

He can talk. He is 18 years of age. He was a great talker. What happens

:18:02.:18:08.

in two years' time, when he has had media exposure? I can guarantee you

:18:08.:18:12.

that my phone, before the end of the night, I would have had a

:18:12.:18:18.

couple of calls from pro managers talking about not anybody else

:18:18.:18:25.

we've seen, but that kid. I bet you 5! It was a terrific

:18:25.:18:31.

contest here at The Troxy earlier today. It was with the smallest

:18:31.:18:41.
:18:41.:18:47.

Jack Bateson in the blue. A serious target there for Ashley Williams to

:18:47.:18:57.
:18:57.:19:02.

stride for. He has to close that Williams gets the hands up. He's a

:19:02.:19:08.

good guard has Williams. He comes forward in the Welsh corner.

:19:08.:19:14.

Bateson has got to box on the back foot. Does not need to stand there,

:19:14.:19:22.

but then gets caught. Williams really is having a go.

:19:22.:19:28.

Again Bateson's defence is pretty solid.

:19:28.:19:34.

The GB boxer is on the back foot at range. He is superb. He really is.

:19:34.:19:40.

He allows Williams to close the gap. The little Welsh man keeps come

:19:40.:19:48.

KFOR ward, determined. The 49 kilogram division. Two good solid

:19:48.:19:52.

scoring shots there from the man in blue.

:19:52.:19:56.

That extra quality from Bateson. That was superb with the left hook.

:19:56.:20:02.

Content to stay on the back foot, got to move up those ropes though.

:20:02.:20:07.

What an engine Williams has got - what an engine - he hasn't stopped.

:20:07.:20:12.

He ploughs forward. He needs to move his head more. He needs to try

:20:12.:20:19.

and avoid shots on the way in. He is working well downstairs. Well,

:20:19.:20:25.

the last round to go. Williams is turning it on. He has great stamina.

:20:25.:20:30.

What a cracking contest in the lightest division of all. Straight

:20:30.:20:36.

punches from Bateson on the back foot. What is Bateson doing there?

:20:36.:20:42.

Holding his feet. He's making life easy for the Welshman there.

:20:42.:20:46.

He's under pressure a little bit, Bateson. He had a three-point

:20:46.:20:49.

cushion going into this last round. Williams has closed the gap a

:20:49.:20:57.

little bit. There will not be much in it.

:20:57.:21:07.
:21:07.:21:25.

Just that extra quality is come At last, there are signs that

:21:25.:21:28.

Ashley Williams might be tiring. Very determined. Hard to score

:21:28.:21:34.

those shots on the inside from Williams. Not really clean punches.

:21:34.:21:40.

It's all on the back foot. A wide swing by Williams. That's

:21:40.:21:45.

going to be it. I will be surprised if Bateson has not got this. My

:21:45.:21:53.

word, he has worked hard for it. What a cracking contest.

:21:53.:21:58.

Super contest. Great performance from both. Very, very determined.

:21:58.:22:02.

Bateson had that quality. A lovely variation. I think he just squeezed

:22:02.:22:06.

down, but there, finishing on the left hook there and came back with

:22:06.:22:11.

the right hand. Holds his feet. Williams comes downstairs with a

:22:11.:22:15.

good right hook there. Bateson - that quality. There was that left

:22:15.:22:19.

hook and right hand again - that combination. That was excellent.

:22:19.:22:23.

Just able to get the shots around the corner, using that superior

:22:23.:22:29.

reach of his. Sweeping around the outside, first the right and then

:22:29.:22:36.

the left of the Welshman, who never took his foot off the ped of what

:22:36.:22:42.

has been a great -- pedal of what has been a great contest.

:22:43.:22:47.

Ladies and gentlemen, can I ask you to show your appreciation to both

:22:47.:22:54.

boxers please. An excellent contest. APPLAUSE.

:22:54.:23:02.

And the winner of the light flyweight 49 kilos final and GB

:23:02.:23:09.

champion for 2012 by a score of 21- 17, in the blue corner, Jack

:23:09.:23:14.

Bateson. Only four between them. Three

:23:14.:23:19.

between them going into the last round and a busy last round for

:23:19.:23:23.

both boxers. That little bit of extra skill just won it for Jack

:23:23.:23:29.

Bateson. His aim and all the other boxers here today is to feature in

:23:29.:23:37.

the Olympics in London 2012. You are both in there for Team GB.

:23:37.:23:44.

You are a proud Londoner. How does it feel to be there? Being in my

:23:44.:23:50.

back garden hopefully I have the whole of London representing me.

:23:50.:23:55.

Everybody is tipping you for gold and you following Amir Khan. Is

:23:55.:23:59.

that the kind of pressure you welcome? Yes, most definitely. We

:23:59.:24:03.

all have pressure and expectations, within ourselves. I'm going to feel

:24:03.:24:08.

the pressure, but I am going to deal with it and turn it into good

:24:08.:24:13.

energy. Four years in boxing - your progress has been staggering?

:24:13.:24:17.

Behind closed doors we work hard, learn and listen. We go out and get

:24:17.:24:22.

the job done. It has worked quickly. I have to keep on moving forward.

:24:22.:24:28.

Anthony, you are one of the last to qualify for the Olympics. Has it

:24:28.:24:35.

sunk in? The Games are 68 days away. It is starting to sin income.

:24:35.:24:40.

have had quite a -- is starting to sink in. You had quite a journey.

:24:40.:24:45.

You were in the last-chance saloon at one point? My performance had

:24:45.:24:49.

not been as good as I would have liked. I have qualified for the

:24:49.:24:54.

Olympic Games. It is all I wanted to do. To have finally done it and

:24:54.:24:59.

I can enjoy the excitement around the Olympic Games and enjoy

:24:59.:25:04.

becoming an Olympian. We have the performance director of Team GB.

:25:04.:25:10.

You have come back from China. What a terrific performance from the

:25:10.:25:15.

girls? All three qualified. We got a gold, silver and bronze. Little

:25:15.:25:22.

Lisa, the feather weight won a bronze out there. It shows you the

:25:22.:25:26.

strength coming out of the women. These guys have qualified, as have

:25:26.:25:31.

the women in China. This is just the start. We're on the running now

:25:31.:25:36.

we are ten weeks out from the Olympic Games. We have a good squad

:25:36.:25:41.

assembled. We have ten qualifiers. One boxer who was unlucky not to

:25:41.:25:45.

qualify. We have ten, seven men and three women. They all have great

:25:45.:25:51.

chances of winning medals. We have talked about how when Amir Khan was

:25:51.:25:58.

the only GB boxer, in 2008 in the Olympics - what can you put this

:25:58.:26:03.

down to? We have a great structure. We have tremen tous boxers coming

:26:03.:26:08.

through all the nations. It is our job to identify the boxers, the

:26:08.:26:12.

ones with best international potential and coach them for

:26:12.:26:17.

internation at events and win medals. Back in January last year,

:26:17.:26:22.

I think there were 37 boxers in the different development squads. It

:26:22.:26:27.

has not been an overnight success. We have not suddenly got seven

:26:27.:26:30.

boxers and three women going there, we have been working since the

:26:30.:26:34.

plane landed from Beijing, putting in place the success we are

:26:34.:26:38.

enjoying now. Would you agree with that? I have come in late, but the

:26:38.:26:42.

guys who have been there for four years and even before Beijing, they

:26:42.:26:45.

have been putting in hard work. They are lucky enough to go to the

:26:45.:26:50.

Games in London. I am proud of them as well. It is about coping nerves,

:26:50.:26:58.

having the Olympics back in your back yard? We have one of the best

:26:58.:27:02.

coaches in the world, and the other coaches we have. We owe a lot oh

:27:02.:27:07.

them. They are there getting the most out of us. Thanks to them as

:27:07.:27:11.

well. It is true, you are almost building a legacy at the moment?

:27:11.:27:14.

is nice to think that. The most important thing is to give boxers

:27:15.:27:19.

the best chance to have a great career, fulfil their potential and

:27:19.:27:28.

win medals and go on to bigger things. Boxing opens doors for you.

:27:28.:27:34.

I am sure they cannot all be Olympians and win medals, when they

:27:34.:27:38.

leave they know more about life and what avenues they will go. For sure,

:27:38.:27:42.

we have tremendous talent. It is our job to coach it and get success

:27:42.:27:47.

out of them. It is coming together at the right time hafplt is not a

:27:47.:27:55.

fluke either. You go and these two kids, especially, these two love

:27:55.:28:01.

this pressure. The big fella, he will only go out if there are

:28:01.:28:09.

15,000 people watching! Thank you. We have been treated to a great

:28:09.:28:15.

afternoon of boxing here at The Troxy. We have been given a glimpse

:28:16.:28:24.

into amateur boxing. Goodbye.

:28:24.:28:33.

Terry Spinx was the golden boy. He had the checkyness of the cockney.

:28:33.:28:39.

The middleweight has a lot of boxing skills. Harrison is saying
