Day 7 Darts: World Championships - Extra

Good evening. With Saturday looming large, Friday night was about

mopping up the rest of the quarter-finals. Two for the women

and two for the men. The first of which involves a young Dutchman by

the name of Dekker. He is a player many people feel has not quite

clicked yet. But he certainly has two against Martin Adams.

The last time that a player held this throw was the second leg of the

third set. Ten successive breaks of throws since then. These statistics

are getting worse and worse. Everything is upside down, isn't it?

Unbelievable. 140. What a Break it has been for

Martin. He is on a finish. The first time in

six legs he will have held his own. He has still got plenty of time.

161. Back on 343. This has been a terrible late for him. -- terrible

late. The checkout is improving. He really

struggled in the third set in particular. But he has been tidy

since then. I am just going to say that as far

as this scoring goes... Two very shaky legs on the bounce from the

man from Holland. The main thing is, Jim, this is for a set. It looks

comfortable for him. 76 points away from making it 3-2 in sets. What a

difference. Dekker gets a look at 98. Two darts

a double eight. It is now 3-2 down. The wolf howls with the conviction.

Just remember the Alamo. This is a fight of his life. There it is. A

good start. Too early for it to be a postmortem

in the Dekker camp. But it certainly was an inquest.

His father, that is him on the right-hand side. Always with his

son. Been to every match he has played, I believe. He has seen

enough darts to know the ebb and flow better than the rest of us. But

that is not going his ladder's way at the moment. That is going to help

immensely on the scoreboard. I was that bad.

Front in set number six. A twelve darter would do. When it comes down

to it, a 15 darter will do for Jan Dekker. Just get over the top of

that. 28. Jan you require 48. Needs six

darts for it, 16, double 16, double 8. Now then. Pressure could be

applied here. Double 4. His doubles are really

letting him down at the moment. An illustration of the nerves that he

is suffering - his nose is still in front but as the gap decreases all

the time the openings get wider for madz madz madz. -- Martin Adams.

Purses his lips as he assesses how many he has got left. Jan Dekker

with another chance. Remember he is on an eleven darter on this leg.

This is his 19th of the leg now. Still can't hit it. Still can't hit

it. Oh! What an opening this is for Martin Adams, who was a mile away!

He was on 341 at one stage when Dekker was on 100 but he can win the

leg against the darts. 72 is the number. Oh double 17. Oh

here we go again. Only a fraction away.

Jan Dekker breathed a sigh of relief but it is only relief if he hits

double 2. Le words fail you. Martin, you

require 17. There's the one he wants, double 8

and he has two darts for it - and he only needs the one! Only needs the

one. Another leg. 3-2 in sets to Jan. First one in the

sixth for Martin. Enjoying it Jim, are you? I'm

enjoying it more than Jan is at the moment!

Dekker carding so many missed darts at doubles, it's all falling down

like a house of cards for him at the moment.

12 out of 38 darts of doubles have been successful for Jan, some of

those earlier. Look at that in that first leg of this sixth set. How

costly could that prove to be particularly with Martin follows 140

with another 140. Two 140s for Dekker. Ton two 140s for Adams. Oh

what a leg of darts from Jan Dekker! 44 left after nine darts, but we are

coming back to Adams, he is first. Bull! Yes! Oh what a shot! Twelve

dart finish. What a leg of darts! That's going to be down in his

history. Right under pressure Martin Adams, Dekker on a two darter and

Martin Adams takes that 121 with a bull finish and is has now won five

lectures in a row. And in the blink of an eye, from

being 3-0 down it is very nearly level.

I've seen nothing like that, Jim, honestly. It was that close.

And I have been around for a couple of years. Four or five I had heard.

That was magical. Magical. And here we are, as I said, Martin

creeping so close. Just one leg away now from this sixth set.

To make it 3-3. And then we have a decider. Martin still hasn't

averaged 90 in any of the matches in the tournament so far. The decider

will be first to five. 44 for Jan. Just needs to hit a

double and forget the problems that he had in the first leg of this set.

Get them out of his system. That says it all. Relief rather than

anything else. Well they had the advantage of the

throw it Dekker in that one. So back comes Martin now. Bouncing up and

down in their seats here tonight at the Lakeside. A thrill a minute.

Live legs in a row for Martin. Jan has stopped the rot. And now of

course he is in a position, with Martin just getting 60 there, if he

can get a ton 40 plus here, he is putting the Adams throw in real

jeopardy, he will have the darts in his hand and an opportunity to take

a 4-2 lead potentially if he can break the Adams throw here. That is

a good marker, right in the middle. Dekker first to a finish. Against

the darts. It's 155. OK it's a big finish. Martin on 95. Yes.

Oh, it just switched that a little bit. Martin has to get this one now.

Poor first start. Treble 19 would leave double 16. Gets the treble 18,

but... Will he get a view at 16? Crucial visit. Dekker only needs the

one and gets it back and when it looked like it was going to be 3-3,

Dekker now favourite to make it 4-2. Christy on her feet. A little bit of

refreshment for Jan Dekker, an opportunity to clear the mind and

focus again. Now can he hold to take a 4-2 lead? It is the first to five

wins this leg. He is only one-set away from his second Lakeside

semifinal, but that is an inauspicious start. That is the that

-- that islet finish that gave him the advantage. He was first to throw

in this leg and nothing here happening for Martin. Recovered well

though. A couple of loose starts will help.

And there he is, that treble 19 has really helped him out. In his last

match and definitely in this match. Another one of those crucial legs as

the whole destiny of the match depends.

Thrilling conclusion to set number four when we are in this position

with Adams taking out a 161 and it kept him in the hunt at 3-1 down,

rather than 4-0 down. This leg was the difference for Martin between

being all level at 3-3 or needing to win each of the last three sets.

Talk about pressure. It is epit miced by these next darts for both

men. Yes, with Jan Dekker now on 126, Martin...

Oh! That was a curtain-raiser! It has knocked him out. It's brilliant.

Brilliant. Well, he hit 126 exactly the same way in the fourth leg of

the fourth set. It was a massive break of throw. This time, when he

hits it, it is worth a set to him and Jan Dekker is 4-2 up against the

three-time world champion. Wolfie now needs to win each of the last

three sets. Dekker one away from a semifinal place.

OK, there it is. And there is the family.

Christy wasn't watching - she didn't have to. Warm up the bus.

It was the noise of the crowd that told Christy everything she needed

to know then. He has had some absolutely belting quarterfinals in

the past. Some he has lost, some he has won. Think back to a wonderful

quarterfinal against ted Hankiy in 2007. Big Robbo in 2009 in the

quarterfinals as well. I don't think there have been many better than the

Chris Mason quarterfinal, which is one that he lost. But can he make

this a wonderful match? It has been sensational already. Will it have a

sensational climax? Shanghai 20s then for Martin.

OK, he won't be finishing. This is for the first leg of the seventh

set. Treble 19. Oh would have left the bull. But Martin with an at

double top. Look at this crowd out there! Utter

enjoyment. Well, Jan Dekker's quarterfinal went

all the way last year. It was against riche George. Similar

situation in many ways. Two popular players but undoubtedly it was

Richie who carried the majority of the support that night as wolfie is

tonight. 5-4 Richie won. Could have learnt from that experience, Jim, if

you look at it. The way he has played here tonight - not a worry in

the world. Just carried on, played his game.

He has also learnt that he can't afford to let this go the distance.

When you consider the average - 83 against van deter pass, 86 against

la voluntaries in game two, there has been steady improvement from Jan

Dekker throughout the week. 91 plus his average tonight.

It's warm out there. Especially with a coat like that.

Not going to happen for wolfie in this visit to the oche.

Excellent first start. Double 12. Can he hit it with his third and

finality dart? He can't, so a chance for Martin Adams. 64 to break in the

seventh. Got to break the Dekker throw. Was

that the chance? OK, double 12. He has got the darts in this set.

Not a disaster for him, but again it is the psychological impact of

breaking the Dekker throw again that could have done him a massive

favour. Wolfie won five legs in a row, Jan has now taken four of the

next five and starts this next sequence in imperious manner. Back

some wolfie. Yes, that will help. Dart for dart in this leg. Nothing

to separate them except the throw. That's another one! Two 180s! Can he

do it? 141. He has three darts. 52 thousand pounds in the -- ?52,000 in

the pot if he can get hot. Options. Oh! But let's not forget, he still

wants the leg. Well, seven perfect darts is as

close as we have come to it this week and he might still lose the

leg. But it would have been the most significant leg of darts in his

life, worth ?52,000, but it still could be significant because it is a

break. Double 16 for an eleven dart against the Adams throw. He is a leg

away from the semifinals now! Jan Dekker on the brink of eliminating

the three-time world champion. Throwing like a champion. Paul Lynn

the only player to have a nine dart outshot and he did that after he

beat me at golf! Good job you let him win then. It

was brilliant. What a lovely man. A lovely man he is. Paul.

He needs inspiration. He needs it fast. He needs it now. Wesley Harms,

the Dutch semifinalist last year, Jan Dekker on the verge of being a

Dutch semifinalist this year. He is really close now, Dekker.

Wolfie wobbling. His second quarterfinal defeat in ten

quarterfinal appearances is imminent. He has got a chance to win

it here and now. He will be back and he has left

himself 50. Just going through the process, but

he has got to try and pressure this 50. Single 18.

Wolfie is still there! Still there, Jim! On the floor. Treble 18.

Some way away but there have been #340e789s where Jan's finishing has

let him down at crucial times. Match darts.

Oh it's double eight for the match - he has missed it! Drama! This is

drama! Is Dekker coming back? No he is not!

Dear me! They are standing, they are applauding these two great players

on the oche! It's all happening. Five match darts missed by Jan

Dekker. And now Adams has the throw to take it to 3-4. And to stay

alive, if he can hold. A poor start for him, but what an extraordinary

last leg. Talk about bottle on that double 1. One of the best trips to

madhouse he has ever had. It is magic.

Finishing line fever is a funny thing. It affects players in

different ways and it has affected Jan Dekker's finishing. This set,

round the double, has been a disaster zone. He started with a

ton, 119 his second throw, so still...

He is going to have another shot at the match. 61 against his name. And

again all Martin Adams can do is put the pressure on but he knows that

Dekker is wobbling around the doubles, he will be applying as much

pressure as he can. His dad is watching on. 25 will do.

Will his dad be cheering? He certainly will! Game and the match -

Jan Dekker! There is his father - what a match! It is unbelievable,

Jim, I've never seen anything like it in my life. It has been brilliant

and I'm sure you have enjoyed it just as much as I have.

biggest shock results in women's world championship darts. ?

It is occasionally unbearably hot on the Lakeside stage but Nina Dobrev

always -- Anastasia Dobromyslova always wearslet base layers. Some of

them claim they cool you down rather than heat you up. I know the England

cricketers all wore them for a while. But Anastasia swears by

She missed 14 of her first 15 darts at doubles in her first match, but

survived that poor start to win six of the next seven legs and go

through 2-1. Well, Jim you mentioned there

head-to-head when they met in the British classic last year, it was

Fallon who won by five legs to one and in October Anastasia beat Fallon

4-3 in the quarterfinals in the top at Ghent but then Fallon beat

Anastasia in the quarterfinals of both the Jersey open and the Jersey

classic on her way to winning both titles at the Jersey festival, both

over a weekend in November 2013. So only a month and a half or two

months ago. That match will be fresh in both players' minds, as will the

three scored by Anastasia. Fallon voice that feat. -- avoids that

fate. There is a chance here for Fallon, she lost the first leg of

the match. Anastasia winning that against the darts but a chance for

Fallon to break that straightaway. Down to a finish. The champion back

on So six darts at 141. Tied up at one

leg all in the first set. Anastasia will hope to put some

pressure on here. Wants a treble really. Finds it with her last dart.

16 now for Fallon to leave bull's eye. Oh! And I think if you measure

it, you will find that she hit the geometric centre of the bull's eye.

And having broke her back she starts with a 140 on the third leg of this

match. Just a reminder that all of the ladies' games this year, best of

three sets, the first to two. With the exception of the final, which is

the first to three sets. An expanded tournament and an

expanded final for the ladies this year. It has been the best of three

sets in the past. This will be the first maximum. Just

the wrong side of the wire. Only just.

No question who she is supporting. Deta Hedman already through to the

semifinals. And, well, if they both keep winning then the two pairs'

partners, Deta and Fallon will meet in the final.

But I tell you what, this would be a big, big upset if the 19-year-old

beats the three-time champion. Excellent darts from Anastasia. Only

now is Fallon on a finish. That will be double 18 for the third leg of

the game against the darts for Anastasia Dobrev. Brilliant finish.

A 16 darter for Anastasia. Husband Tony delighted. That is in her hand

now to take the first set. Straight back into the red. Cross

with herself at that second dart but the third didn't miss by much.

More like the Anastasia we have come to know at Lakeside this evening.

She looked just a little shaky in her opening round match.

She warmed to her task as she went on, but she would have been hugely

disappointed with her average which was only 69. Club roolt fob comblt

mentd though it is Fallon who has the better match average today up to

this point despite the fact that it is Anastasia who is here for the

match - for the first set, I beg your pardon.

85, followed by a pair of 24s so far in this leg.

Yes, good cover. 140, 100 and a 92. And Fallon is in control.

Treble 19 now leaves double 16. She doesn't need to take it out on this

visit but she can do and she will go for it and she will hit it!

Her first ever teleadvised ton plus finish. She has won two legs, an 81

finish and a 109 checkout as well. All four legs up to this point going

against the darts. It's Fallon with the nominal advantage on this last

leg - I say a nominal advantage merely because all four legs have

been broken so far. That's better. Much better after a

42 to open the leg. That is a feature of Fallon's game,

if a couple of darts don't go where she wants them to she will just

pause and take a step back and take a deep breath and come pose herself.

Didn't work on that occasion. A 41 and a 42 and two 140s. Go

figure. Well, two impressive checkouts so

far. She now has six darts at 138 to take the first set against the

three-time world champion. A start the wrong side of the wire

for her. Gets it down to 93. You would expect Anastasia to put

some pressure on the 93 but she hasn't really. She hasn't at all.

Double 16 for the set for Amber Sherlock. -- Fallon Sherrock. Still

a possible on the outset - 21 if she comes back but double 8 here for the

set and now double 4. Again just a little break to compose herself.

Hits the double 4 and she is a set up against the number three seed.

Second successive round in this year's tournament. Anastasia

Dobromyslova loses the first set of the match. No room for error here if

she is going to add a fourth world title to her Lakeside collection.

Fallon is no respecter of reputations.

Now, can she apply pressure early on in this second set? She is switch to

go 19s. That is unlucky. Hasn't been the most successful year

of Anastasia Dobromyslova's career by any stretch of the imagination.

Played in 17 significant tournaments since retaining her world title last

year and has only won the three of them - I say "Only". I mean only in

the context of Anastasia's career. She hasn't been unbeatable,

certainly. She lost in the world masters and failed to reach the last

32 on of that tournament. Beaten in the final at I hadderdown.

She has a ten match streak in the world championships.

No finish now for Anastasia but she will be back. Crucial last third

dart for her. To hold her throw for the first time

in the match so far. Some of the scoring has been a

little iffy at times, but the checkouts have been pretty good.

They've won three legs apiece and look at that. Anastasia has just

missed two darts at a double and they were both in the first leg of

the match. Fallon has missed four. Well she has already taken out 81

and 109. Fallon Sherrock. Hals from Milton Keynes. Used to play - hails

from Milton Keynes. Used to for Buckinghamshire. Now plays for

Cleveland. Only been playing for around four years. And within two

years of taking up the sport she was a double winner at youth level - the

World Cup singles and the World Masters.

Not far away from her first 180 of the tournament, Anastasia.

Anastasia's husband Tony Martin again with just a rueful shake of

the head. 41 from Anastasia. It is not easy watching loved ones

up on that stage. Even when they are doing well. But Anastasia isn't

doing well - not yet. She is ahead in this set but she is a set down.

Three legs away from what, for her, would be an early exit.

What finishing from the 19-year-old. A 103, an 81 and a 109.

And all over the pace of seven legs. Look at that - three out of four

attempts at a finish between 81 and 130 have been hit by Fallon up to

this point. Back in the treble 20 - once,

twice... Not far away from her first maximum of the match. She did have

one in her first round win. Not another three, surely from

Anastasia? She made sure that it wasn't going to be another three.

That was a big adjustment. It is darts, Jim, but not as we know

it. Again, the cover shot was crucial.

But look at this excellent leg from Fallon. Gets better and better. If

she can set herself up with a - what a time for a 171! Leaves her double

8, knows she is going to have a shot at it to break the dob dob throw. --

Anastasia Dobromyslova throw. This is for a 13 dart leg.

She averaged 63 in the match against Irradis in the first round but the

average is knocking 80 against the three-time world champion who is

close to being deposed. Seven years since she was last beaten on this

stage. Ten successive match victories. Conceding a mere four

sets in the process. 58 from Fallon. Anastasia really,

you feel, had to pressure that. Only 41. And look at this from the

19-year-old - straight back in the treble 20. She came close to filling

that up as well. 203 points away from the semi-s.

Quick, before it falls out. She is on a finish.

A little bit of tension perhaps belied first and third darts. She

should have gone down with the third one. 160. Got out at the best of

times let alone trying to stay in the match. Great recovery though.

Treble 20 on would leave double 19 for the match. It wasn't to be. And

Anastasia Dobromyslova, who is in trouble in this leg, has a chance.

It is double 10 to stay alive. One last dart at it. Is that her

last dart at Lakeside this year? Match point.

Wouldn't have expected this chance to come her way. Two match darts

missed by the Milton Keynes teenager. And again you wonder about

the psychology - what's going through Fallon's mind now? Anastasia

hit that double 5 and it was a leg against the darts so she is throwing

now to tie this up at 1-1 when really she knows she should have

been at the players' bar and buying herself a drink.

Will Fallon let that bother her? Well she has broken the Dobromyslova

throw three times in four attempts so far. Anastasia has to hold here

to stay in the match. If she does it is all square again at 1-1 going to

the deciding set. And Fallon will know and tell herself that they

weren't bad darts at double top. One was close to the wire and the

other came off the barrel and was on the wire. It's not as if she bottled

it. And look at the start to this leg - 100 and 140. To take the darts

effectively. Eleven 140s from Fallon Sherrock

which is extraordinary given we've only been goog a set and a bit. --

going a set and a bit. This is crucial. She can't now finish. She

will expect to be back. But the way Fallon has been finishing you just

never know. Well she will be back but

Anastasia's highest finish in the tournament up to this point is 76.

Can she hit 82 for the equalising second set?

Significant, I wonder. We are about to find out. She has missed two

match darts. Can she give herself a third match dart?

Hit the wrong treble. Left with 31. She is not going to have a finish.

Anastasia will be back. Double 4. Can't afford to miss any more,

surely. That's one, that's two. Double 4 for the set?

Is that the end of her reign as world champion? Well if she had the

choice, it probably wouldn't be double 11.

This is a third match dart for Fallon.

Oh she has hit it. A mere four points - a massive set. 1-1. When

she looked dead and buried, Fallon Sherrock missed four match darts to

take the world champion out in straight sets. Now we go into a

decider. And now you have to fancy Anastasia to win. So much

experience, so much match know-how up on that Lakeside stage. If you

think back to that long pause, before Fallon threw that dart, that

fourth match dart, and they seem to be getting further away from the

doubles. Still, that is a dozen 140s, so her

scoring doesn't seem too badly affected.

Well, she plays with such a maturity, you have to keep reminding

yourself how relatively little time she has been in the game. The fact

that she is only 19. She has won the brisk Classic, two events in Jersey

this year, and three BDO ranking tieltss in the last twelve months

and -- titles in the last twelve months and the final of the 2012

Northern Ireland Open before that which she lost to Deta Hedman.

Undoubtedly in her first world championships, notwithstanding those

successes, is completely unchartered territory for her.

Having missed two match darts in the set, she has got herself into the

position to earn more match darts. Deta told us during her first round

match - Fallon's first round match that is - that literally nothing

phases her. We are about to find out if that is true.

Three legs in a row. Stop the rot in the nick of time after that 13

darter in the third leg of the second set. Fallon Sherrock then at

that stage had taken four out of five legs and Anastasia has won the

two she needed to to stay alive and now has her nose in front for the

ver first time since the first leg of the game, which she won.

Made a slow start against Crackham and made a slow start today but it

does look as though the confidence is returning and the scoring is

returning as well. In that deciding leg of the second

set Anastasia missed seven darts for it before finding the target with

her eighth and Fallon, as we know, has missed four match darts,

including two in that deciding fifth leg of the second set.

It was the deciding leg of the second set - will it be the decisive

leg of the match? It is looking that way at the moment.

Treble 19. Went for the 11s instead but she will be back, sets herself

up. 52 and if she can take it out she will be just one leg away from a

match in which she looked dead and buried at one stage. A crucial

treble with her final dart to put a bit of pressure on this 52. But it

is double 16 for Anastasia and now double 8.

Go on then Fallon, a trouble and a double.

She is a leg away. She was four times a dart away from going out.

A 97 and a 620 at the start of this crucial leg for Fallon Sherrock. Who

knows that she has to hold here and then break. She is in the same

position that Anastasia was in in the second. She needs to string two

successive legs together. That 121 will help. Anastasia right back at

her. Well in fact you play a sudden death leg at 2-2 in the women's

quarterfinals so in fact Fallon is effectively two down with three to

play. Here we go then, Anastasia is down

to a finish. Fallon should be - will be.

So 80 for the match. Two darts at double 10 - only needed the one. Her

reaction suggests she thinks she has got out of jail there. Fallon

Sherrock had four match darts. A huge intake of breath from everyone

connected with Anastasia Dobromyslova. It is eleven

successive wins. She has made it through to the semifinals. She will

be the first to admit, she has to produce a wholesale improvement if

she is going to keep her hopes alive - but she has done it for now.

Tamara Schuur brought her opponents hopes it an end. Next for her was

last year' runner-up Lisa Ashton. Let's join the commentators. Best of

three sets. Through to the semifinals tomorrow. The other thing

we should say about Tamara Schuur is she caused the upset of the 1st

round, beating the great Trina Tonev are on the very 1st match at

Saturday lunchtime. Quite a way to get back in action. Yes she did not

leave Drina much. There she is, smiling, but the smiles would be

bigger if she had been on the stage. The golden girl.

-- well. Leezer is ranked 15 in the BDO rankings. -- Lisa. She won the

national singles in 2011 and 2012. Her last title was the 2012 jersey

classic where she beat Deta Hedman, 3-0 in the final.

Tamara is the French open champion. Leezer has not had a good start.

Nothing above 80. -- Lisa. Lisa, 147. Treble 20. 17. Went for the

travel ten. -- treble ten. It can't be done now for Tamara who apart

from winning the French open reached 3/4-finals last season in 2013. 3

quarter-finals. Double top, want to go. -- one to go. She knows how to

finish them but very tentative at the moment for these 2 girls. This

is better. Straight into the treble 20 for Tamara and Lisa.

The darts of this year though, from the ladies, the best I have ever

seen. Some brilliant girls. I must have come all the way from the

Netherlands for many years and it is the 1st time I have seen her for 4

years. Leezer with 2 time 40s and then a

3rd on 81 after 9 darts Mac. A chance to break the throw. 31 40s.

She wants the ball now. -- 140s. She has had a 125 and they want to 1 to

1 in this lack at way back on 170 which is a tread check out. Will she

get a chance to have a look at it? Another go at it. 3 for a double

ten. It is the biggest on the board, Tamara, 2 treble 20 is you

need. 55. Single 1, double two. Missed doubles and mixed doubles,

then all of a sudden Tamara with double 16 to nick this led. --leg.

Leezer was on 81 after 9 darts but has since missed. -- Lisa. She was

not in the madhouse for long, was she? They call going for a 11 being

in the madhouse but it is only a matter of seconds and now Lisa has

taken real charge of this opening set. 1st of 2 sets through to the

semifinals. The women 's semi-final tomorrow afternoon. She certainly

gets on the -- on with the game, does Lisa. Watch this speed. Making

them count. You can see that Lisa is 6 out of 8

shots at a double but Leeds by 2 lead is to nil. --leads. Tamara is

on 60% -- was on 60% in her match against Drina. She has set some kind

of record playing on Saturday at 1 p.m. And then not again until 5:30

p.m. On the following Friday. Almost a full week between 1st round and

quarter-final. She has had plenty of time to practice them, hasn't she?

It is a record. Double 12 coming in for Lisa. Sorry, it is 204. Let's

get the scores right, 169. This is set point. If she can take

out 160. This is a good finish. Treble 18. She can't hit the 18 so

124, still on the 20s, with Leezer coming in for 119. Take the 19th of
