Oh, it's absolutely brilliant!
Oh, this is getting better and | 0:00:13 | 0:00:18
better!
Cristiano Ronaldo! | 0:00:18 | 0:00:25
History boys, indeed! Nobody has won
it more than Arsenal. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:30
A hat-trick!
The biggest Chelsea celebration of | 0:00:30 | 0:00:38
the season!
Welcome to Football Focus, good | 0:00:38 | 0:00:44
afternoon, a bumper day ahead,
perfect repeat of the fixtures from | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
week to lead for some reason and the
perfect excuse for a rewind. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:54
And he goes round the goalkeeper,
and Swansea have a second goal! | 0:01:01 | 0:01:06
Chris Wood equalises for Burnley!
Onside! 3-0, Newcastle! Trying to | 0:01:06 | 0:01:15
make up the ground and jumps into
the tackle, and the red card is out. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:22
They go into the break top of the
tree. Cesar Azpilicueta in and | 0:01:22 | 0:01:28
Morata into the net! Rodriguez!
Ahmed Hegazi has made a mistake for | 0:01:28 | 0:01:36
the goalkeeper. Manchester City have
done it in the last ten of the game. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
You are watching right here,
Football Focus. Thank you, Craig, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:45
and more from Mr David on
Southampton later and more in the | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
next hour. We hit the road with Sean
Dyche is the Burnley bandwagon rolls | 0:01:48 | 0:01:53
on. It is a good club. It is a good
club. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:59 | |
A well-run, good club. It was a
cracker at the Emirates, Friday | 0:01:59 | 0:02:05
night football provided a bit of
wham-bam. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:14
. The Swans are clapping and they
badly need Tammy Abraham to find his | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
win.
Just have to keep trying to get the | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
points for Swansea.
And a festive Ashley Young on | 0:02:20 | 0:02:25
Manchester United and getting better
with age. It heats me on, that is | 0:02:25 | 0:02:32
about it! At Christmas jumper and a
best in the same interview. We have | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
Martin Keown and Matthew Upson,
roommates in the old Arsenal days, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:41
getting the band back together. We
will look at our side's game in a | 0:02:41 | 0:02:45
minute. Nine games today. The early
game between Everton and Arsenal | 0:02:45 | 0:02:49
later. Sorry, third-place Chelsea.
And we are in the Midlands, Stoke | 0:02:49 | 0:02:57
against red -- West Bromwich, big
game, like their later. Newcastle | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
desperate for a win as well. They
take on West Ham today. One of the | 0:03:01 | 0:03:06
later games, they are all late these
days, only against Tottenham. Any | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
sign may be things to come,
Leicester against Manchester United | 0:03:10 | 0:03:15
at 735 on a Saturday night. Starting
at the Emirates, Liverpool were in | 0:03:15 | 0:03:19
town and so was your commentator. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
Thrills and spills usually
guaranteed when these sites, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
face-to-face, fourth spot in the
table up for grabs and quite | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
probably, that is the prize they
will fight for until the end of the | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
season. Milner looking to release
sell-off. Philippe Coutinho. They | 0:03:34 | 0:03:48
are at it again. His 11th of the
season. Arsenal zero, Liverpool one. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:59
Oh, a slip from Laurent Koscielny,
Salah is then, what a chance, what a | 0:03:59 | 0:04:07
save, Sadio Mane! Over the bar! One
turn and one pass, and Salah is a | 0:04:07 | 0:04:19
long goal again, can he get the shot
away! He can. The deflection just | 0:04:19 | 0:04:25
enough to take it away from pad to
check and that might be back -- | 0:04:25 | 0:04:30
that, as far as Arsenal is
concerned. Granit Xhaka. Lacazette | 0:04:30 | 0:04:39
could not find a way through.
Sanchez is there and Arsenal are on | 0:04:39 | 0:04:43
the scoresheet. Well, a goal at
nothing, no response from the bench. | 0:04:43 | 0:04:49
Still a long way to go. Sanchez
gambled, Gomes hesitated, Arsenal | 0:04:49 | 0:04:54
are back in it. 1-2, Liverpool.
Xhaka. What a strike! What a goal! | 0:04:54 | 0:05:06
Granite Jacko, when he scores, they
tend to be rockets! And this | 0:05:06 | 0:05:11
certainly falls into that category.
Granit Xhaka. Mignolet. Two goals in | 0:05:11 | 0:05:24
two minutes from Arsenal and the
game is turned on its head. Mesut | 0:05:24 | 0:05:27
Ozil, Lacazette. Mesut Ozil is in,
3-2, Arsenal. What an incredible | 0:05:27 | 0:05:35
turnaround! Liverpool look
shell-shocked, Jurgen Klopp enraged, | 0:05:35 | 0:05:42
floppy from Liverpool. And how
Arsenal have punished them. Booing | 0:05:42 | 0:05:48
around the Emirates seven minutes
ago when Salah made it 2-0 | 0:05:48 | 0:05:52
Liverpool, and now it is 3-2
Arsenal. Salah, for Liverpool. And | 0:05:52 | 0:06:03
now Firmino. That was hit with too
much power. And Liverpool level. And | 0:06:03 | 0:06:11
Roberto Firmino, who went close so
often in the first half, finds the | 0:06:11 | 0:06:16
net this time, it is the pace of the
drive, and it is 3-3. Arsenal versus | 0:06:16 | 0:06:22
Liverpool remains one of the most
exciting fixtures in the Premier | 0:06:22 | 0:06:25
League. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:25
The goal should be enough for a
game, even two. When you watch it | 0:06:29 | 0:06:33
again, Arsenal was not in the game
and to have ten minutes, I don't | 0:06:33 | 0:06:37
know how long it was... And now we
come back to the good things. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:42
Usually, 2-0 up, two down, out of
the game. And then we reacted well, | 0:06:42 | 0:06:47
then we were back in the game, then
we created and we will organise the | 0:06:47 | 0:06:51
game. Then we were secure again,
felt secure against. But I don't | 0:06:51 | 0:06:56
know how long it was. Four minutes,
45 seconds. I felt in the first | 0:06:56 | 0:07:01
half, we felt a bit frozen, with
beer, not at our level, and we could | 0:07:01 | 0:07:06
see the impact of the Manchester
United start here. It was there, | 0:07:06 | 0:07:11
ready to get it out of the system.
It was not a thrilling game, with -- | 0:07:11 | 0:07:17
it was a thrilling game come boasts
teams going for it. Even if I am | 0:07:17 | 0:07:23
getting frustrated that we did not
win the game, and the other hand, | 0:07:23 | 0:07:26
that is the kind of games you want
in the Premier League. The kind of | 0:07:26 | 0:07:30
games you want in the Premier
League, but from a defensive point | 0:07:30 | 0:07:33
of view, Martin, a bit of a
nightmare for both teams. I would | 0:07:33 | 0:07:37
not say it was a thriller. Both
teams were very good | 0:07:37 | 0:07:41
counterattacking. If Arsenal could
learn a way to defend, when the ball | 0:07:41 | 0:07:45
is at the end, when you are in
possession, it's too late if you | 0:07:45 | 0:07:50
react and try and get into position
once you lose possession. And if we | 0:07:50 | 0:07:54
look at the footage here, it is very
clear Arsenal need to improve on | 0:07:54 | 0:07:57
this element. | 0:07:57 | 0:07:57
Just an awareness, in mentality.
This is the point at which Liverpool | 0:08:01 | 0:08:05
got 2-0 ahead through Mohamed Salah.
Yes, it is interesting. Arsenal in a | 0:08:05 | 0:08:12
good position, the ball in the far
corner. But look at their setup off | 0:08:12 | 0:08:16
the ball. You look at where Xhaka
is, quite advanced. Hector Bellerin. | 0:08:16 | 0:08:24
Quite deep again over the forehand
side, Mesut Ozil. It leaves Laurent | 0:08:24 | 0:08:30
Koscielny in this area with two
Liverpool players and you are not | 0:08:30 | 0:08:32
comfortable here. Koscielny should
be talking to Granit Xhaka. Xhaka | 0:08:32 | 0:08:43
has gone out of position and he will
get the blame for doing that. | 0:08:43 | 0:08:46
Organise. With Arsene Wenger, if you
made mistakes coming you did not | 0:08:46 | 0:08:51
play. Players are now allowed to
make these defensive areas and it is | 0:08:51 | 0:08:55
getting that barricade up in
possession of the ball. It is the | 0:08:55 | 0:08:59
turnover in so many times, they are
exposed. This is one of the best | 0:08:59 | 0:09:02
counterattacking teams in the
Premier League. Salah does a great | 0:09:02 | 0:09:06
job, but as the ball gets played
down to Firmino, the starting | 0:09:06 | 0:09:10
position being wrong, you can see
how Koscielny is drawn to Firmino. | 0:09:10 | 0:09:22
It leaves a huge space for anybody
to exploit. As we move on... You can | 0:09:22 | 0:09:27
see it is a great pass from Firmino
but the stuffy is never able to get | 0:09:27 | 0:09:32
back to come back. Mustafi. Lovely
finish, but in a great position to | 0:09:32 | 0:09:41
score. As a defender, the front
players get all the credit, they | 0:09:41 | 0:09:46
played this wonderful football we
talk about, the front players, the | 0:09:46 | 0:09:50
fabulous four with Liverpool and the
same with Arsenal, but as a | 0:09:50 | 0:09:53
defender, you get the blame. Get
into position early, organise, that | 0:09:53 | 0:09:57
is all. You should be seen and not
heard. Defenders are being exploited | 0:09:57 | 0:10:02
because they are not putting up that
barricade when they are in | 0:10:02 | 0:10:04
possession of the ball. Jurgen Klopp
was throwing his hat back when he | 0:10:04 | 0:10:09
was told about the four minutes and
45 seconds. Let's look at those | 0:10:09 | 0:10:14
goals. Liverpool in total control
and interesting to see Gomes, a | 0:10:14 | 0:10:17
young player. He has a look, a final
look at Sanchez, just here. And a | 0:10:17 | 0:10:24
glance. For me, they are in a great
position, Liverpool. The back four | 0:10:24 | 0:10:31
looking tidy, Dejan Lovren entitled
Lacazette. The only thing Gomes can | 0:10:31 | 0:10:37
do, it is sometimes want to feel the
attacker. Maybe be a little bit | 0:10:37 | 0:10:42
closer. It can expose you to having
Sanchez getting across, but | 0:10:42 | 0:10:45
sometimes, it is nice to have that
contact. It creates nervousness. | 0:10:45 | 0:10:49
There is a lack of anticipation for
Gomes, who is a wonderful player and | 0:10:49 | 0:10:54
should be playing central defence,
by the way, and he gets caught out. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:57
He has got the head the ball when he
is leading with his wrong foot, the | 0:10:57 | 0:11:02
clear that ball. He had a really
good game and he's such a bright | 0:11:02 | 0:11:07
prospect. What about theirs, 2-2,
terrible goalkeeping error? Why not | 0:11:07 | 0:11:11
go with two hands? It looks awful.
There is a catalogue of these issues | 0:11:11 | 0:11:18
with Mignolet over five seasons and
it has been highlighted before and | 0:11:18 | 0:11:21
is something Klopp will be looking
at. We will see what happens in | 0:11:21 | 0:11:27
January. And this is the completion
of the 3-2, Martin. Look at the | 0:11:27 | 0:11:32
distance between the two central
defenders. They have people in front | 0:11:32 | 0:11:35
of them, but they have the move.
This is a give and go. It is | 0:11:35 | 0:11:41
wonderful from Ozil, good movement.
But the goalkeeper has to stay on | 0:11:41 | 0:11:44
his feet for longer. Gomes, again,
his experience as a pull-back, as he | 0:11:44 | 0:11:50
plays that ball, come inside a bit
and try and help Lovren out and | 0:11:50 | 0:11:54
leave Sanchez on the outside is the
only thing he could do. By goals at | 0:11:54 | 0:11:58
that point, but at the other end,
Roberto Firmino makes it 3-3 -- five | 0:11:58 | 0:12:03
goals. You can pick it to pieces in
terms of defensively. It is the | 0:12:03 | 0:12:08
turnover again of the ball. Sanchez
all of a sudden. Look at how Arsenal | 0:12:08 | 0:12:15
has come out, nobody is organising
the back four, nobody is taking | 0:12:15 | 0:12:19
control and getting midfield players
out, getting people organised. The | 0:12:19 | 0:12:22
ball comes into Can. One touch, I
don't do what you can say. You have | 0:12:22 | 0:12:33
got Koscielny and Mustafi. Koscielny
gets drawn to the ball and these are | 0:12:33 | 0:12:41
the basics, against quality, you and
on. Who is with this fella? It | 0:12:41 | 0:12:47
should be Koscielny. You could even
say he has to come in here when he | 0:12:47 | 0:12:51
sees that. I go to was magnificent
on the night, the young defender, | 0:12:51 | 0:12:58
but when Slaven Bilic has to do
better. -- I thought he was | 0:12:58 | 0:13:01
magnificent. But Koscielny has to do
better. To allow a centre forward a | 0:13:01 | 0:13:10
shot in opposition cannot happen
with that amount of bodies around | 0:13:10 | 0:13:13
the 18-yard box. And more rumours
again this week about Alexis Sanchez | 0:13:13 | 0:13:17
possibly going to mind as the City
and also about Virgil van Dijk. It | 0:13:17 | 0:13:21
looks like badgers the City might be
doing that and they'll already | 0:13:21 | 0:13:26
incredibly strong this season. --
Manchester City. They are already | 0:13:26 | 0:13:30
working that the value they would
get. Psychologically, they will + | 0:13:30 | 0:13:36
Chester what is already a fantastic
team, probably the best team we have | 0:13:36 | 0:13:40
seen playing in the Premier League,
Manchester City. And fatigue every | 0:13:40 | 0:13:44
week, and they want Sanchez as well,
it is almost rude. And that coming | 0:13:44 | 0:13:48
from one of the invisibles! This is
the top of the table. We will | 0:13:48 | 0:13:54
concentrate at the team in sixth
place -- | 0:13:54 | 0:13:56
when Sean Dyche took over five years
ago, they were 14. Things have | 0:13:59 | 0:14:03
changed a bit but he still living in
the Southampton and we caught up | 0:14:03 | 0:14:07
with the Burnley boss on his weekly
dawn drive. | 0:14:07 | 0:14:11
Thank you very much for letting me
tag along. Pleasure. When you do | 0:14:11 | 0:14:15
this journey, do you spend the time
thinking and working out tactics, | 0:14:15 | 0:14:20
are you just literally sticking on a
bit Magic Christmas and having a | 0:14:20 | 0:14:24
singsong? Yes, I do have a singsong.
Not now, with this quiz, are you | 0:14:24 | 0:14:29
kidding? I listen to the radio
generally. Kasabian. I know about | 0:14:29 | 0:14:37
them a little bit. Get your! Name
drops. Yes, it is good, isn't it? | 0:14:37 | 0:14:47
Unbelievable! Sanchez puts them in
Dreamland and the champions are | 0:14:47 | 0:14:52
beaten. It started off really well
with a game nobody expected anything | 0:14:52 | 0:14:56
from and we have built from there.
Let's not run away with it. We know | 0:14:56 | 0:15:03
how unforgiving the Premier League
is and it can affect you very | 0:15:03 | 0:15:06
quickly. That is a fine, by the way,
the phone. Sorry. It is all right. | 0:15:06 | 0:15:15
What you look for in a player? It is
this idea of Sean Dyche signs good | 0:15:15 | 0:15:21
characters in the press. What
manager does not want good | 0:15:21 | 0:15:24
characters? I did sign it Joey
Barton, I do remind them! No, no, | 0:15:24 | 0:15:29
let me finish... Possibly from the
outside, he would be thought not to | 0:15:29 | 0:15:36
be a good character. The depth of
people is important. Underneath some | 0:15:36 | 0:15:40
of the ups and downs of his career
and his life may be, he is a winner | 0:15:40 | 0:15:45
come he said fighter, he is a
professional. So I thought, you are | 0:15:45 | 0:15:51
the right person and the right
animal, if you like, with the | 0:15:51 | 0:15:55
instinct of what I think the team
needs. | 0:15:55 | 0:16:01
From years of being in the game you
meet people from lots of walks of | 0:16:01 | 0:16:04
life. He sends these trades people.
That can be as important as | 0:16:04 | 0:16:10
anything. By the way, there are not
always good stories, I've | 0:16:10 | 0:16:16
last-minute said, that's not for us.
Just go to an important thing, which | 0:16:16 | 0:16:22
is the singing. Of course. I love a
lot of the old school stuff, like | 0:16:22 | 0:16:25
the Smiths. Sean Dyche and
celebrate. -- Sean Dyche can | 0:16:25 | 0:16:35
celebrate. One of the biggest things
I've learned about the Premier | 0:16:35 | 0:16:40
League is, actually, that is just a
minor moment of inner arrogance when | 0:16:40 | 0:16:46
you say, I'm fine, I can handle
this. Home and away, I can deal with | 0:16:46 | 0:16:51
what need to deal with. Keep a level
view and do a performance. I am more | 0:16:51 | 0:16:56
assured. What is the biggest
misconception about you? I'm very | 0:16:56 | 0:17:06
good-looking. As a player I was very
skilful and talented. What are you | 0:17:06 | 0:17:10
going to do? It is a media driven
game. There are endless views about | 0:17:10 | 0:17:14
what you are and what you are not. I
tried to do what I do. I try to be | 0:17:14 | 0:17:18
myself all the time. My friends have
known me since I was about five, | 0:17:18 | 0:17:25
they would let me know. Do your
friends call you that at home? Yes, | 0:17:25 | 0:17:32
they have taken the nickname on,
they don't like Sean. Ginger Sean | 0:17:32 | 0:17:39
would do. I'm sensing a theme with
your genre. I don't know, I kind of | 0:17:39 | 0:17:43
like rock music, but I recently saw
Metallica. It was too much. Too | 0:17:43 | 0:17:49
power. You found your level. Yeah,
yeah. | 0:17:49 | 0:17:55 | |
power. You found your level. Yeah,
yeah. | 0:17:55 | 0:17:55 | |
They are right in touch with the big
boys at the top. | 0:17:57 | 0:18:00
They are right in touch with the big
boys at the top. | 0:18:00 | 0:18:01
It feels like you're building an
empire. You've done all of those | 0:18:02 | 0:18:06
things. When I got here, we laid
down, what I thought, was a future | 0:18:06 | 0:18:12
blueprint for the club. The key
season everybody talks about is when | 0:18:12 | 0:18:15
we came out of the Premier League
and back into the championship. Now, | 0:18:15 | 0:18:20
there was a reality to that
situation. The board knew it would | 0:18:20 | 0:18:23
be a demanding season for the team.
We spent about nine, £10 million | 0:18:23 | 0:18:28
that summer. That allowed the club
to organise a training ground and | 0:18:28 | 0:18:31
build for a longer term future. When
we went down, there wasn't panic | 0:18:31 | 0:18:38
stations, there was not a long, I
didn't feel it myself, so going back | 0:18:38 | 0:18:40
into the Premier League was payback.
We stayed up last season. Big | 0:18:40 | 0:18:45
challenge. But all of these things
have been put in place, of course. | 0:18:45 | 0:18:49
Now I have my chance because of the
finance involved in the Premier | 0:18:49 | 0:18:54
League. Let's see where we go this
season, and so far so good. What | 0:18:54 | 0:18:59
about Christmas songs, do you love
them, do you hate them? I love them. | 0:18:59 | 0:19:04
Are you kidding me! I've got kids
and all of that. I love it. Driving | 0:19:04 | 0:19:11
Home For Christmas, obviously.
Ashley Barnes! Burnley are up to | 0:19:11 | 0:19:17
fourth! | 0:19:17 | 0:19:19
It just made me laugh. He said you
must be really proud, I said yes, he | 0:19:23 | 0:19:30
said, you must be really, really
proud, and I said yes. I'm proud, | 0:19:30 | 0:19:36
super proud, prouder than the proud
man of proud town. | 0:19:36 | 0:19:43
CHUCKLES
I thought the most obvious thing, | 0:19:43 | 0:19:45
when they had been in the Premier
League before, nothing had changed | 0:19:45 | 0:19:48
because they had put everything on
the pitch. I said you cannot do that | 0:19:48 | 0:19:52
every season. You need to have
something that can be there for | 0:19:52 | 0:19:56
years and years. You look at this
now and it's amazing, really. So I | 0:19:56 | 0:20:00
am really pleased. Do you feel
proud? Proud, prouder than proud, | 0:20:00 | 0:20:06
prouder than Peter proud from proud
town. Nice interview. She got some | 0:20:06 | 0:20:15
really nice stuff out of Sean Dyche.
When you look at Burnley, they've | 0:20:15 | 0:20:19
had a successful season. But the key
has been that incredibly settled | 0:20:19 | 0:20:23
side, which he does not touch if he
does not need to. That is super | 0:20:23 | 0:20:28
important. The star quality he has
come he has a clear identity. There | 0:20:28 | 0:20:32
is no grey area. He knows what he
wants from the team and I think the | 0:20:32 | 0:20:36
players know exactly what he
demands. I think that's a powerful | 0:20:36 | 0:20:40
thing. But with the fitness, the
fact he hasn't had a lot of injuries | 0:20:40 | 0:20:44
and suspensions, and they've kept
the same unit, especially as the | 0:20:44 | 0:20:47
back four and the goalkeeper, the
defensive record is outstanding. The | 0:20:47 | 0:20:51
remit for him would have been to
stay up. 32 points now and he is | 0:20:51 | 0:20:56
aiming for 40. They are in dreamland
at the moment, enjoying every | 0:20:56 | 0:21:01
moment, they play Tottenham today.
They could go into the top four. It | 0:21:01 | 0:21:05
will is remarkable. As you say,
desperately any difference. They | 0:21:05 | 0:21:12
have a player out because of this
incident, which we are going to see, | 0:21:12 | 0:21:16
against Brighton's Glenn Murray.
Involved in that kind of thing | 0:21:16 | 0:21:19
before. But bad for Burnley because
they've been in such a successful | 0:21:19 | 0:21:26
unit. The thing is, people can come
in and fill that role. They lost | 0:21:26 | 0:21:31
Keane in the summer. He had been on
the bench this season before, most | 0:21:31 | 0:21:34
of the season. He stepped straight
into the team and hit the ground | 0:21:34 | 0:21:39
running because he knows the
structure. He came in for the away | 0:21:39 | 0:21:43
win, the only one that got last
year, at Worcester Palace. That | 0:21:43 | 0:21:47
looked good. Keane, at Everton,
where he is exposed, he doesn't get | 0:21:47 | 0:21:51
the protection upfront and he
doesn't look as good. -- at Crystal | 0:21:51 | 0:21:58
Palace. I don't expect you to name
names, but there must have been | 0:21:58 | 0:22:01
times when a manager has brought in
a player and they have negatively | 0:22:01 | 0:22:05
affected the dressing room. And you
can see where they haven't checked | 0:22:05 | 0:22:08
the character of the player before
they have brought them in. Without | 0:22:08 | 0:22:14
doubt. 100%. Some players, if it is
a problem for them it has to be | 0:22:14 | 0:22:19
everybody's problem. You don't want
that. Conversely, if you get | 0:22:19 | 0:22:22
somebody who is a team player, he
was infectious, Ian Wright, for | 0:22:22 | 0:22:26
instance, he came out of the Arsenal
dressing room and after he left I | 0:22:26 | 0:22:29
wondered if we would cope. It was
like having Eddie Murphy in the | 0:22:29 | 0:22:33
dressing room, a laugh a minute.
Have you experienced that? It works | 0:22:33 | 0:22:42
both ways. You notice somebody who
comes in who might have a poisonous | 0:22:42 | 0:22:46
impact, but also when you lose those
characters that have been so big in | 0:22:46 | 0:22:50
the team, they are a big miss.
Players are perceptive. They can | 0:22:50 | 0:22:54
pick up on it quickly. They know who
will help. Is he here for himself, | 0:22:54 | 0:23:00
or to make the team better? Back to
the early part of the season when | 0:23:00 | 0:23:05
Burnley got a late equaliser at
Spurs against Wembley. At the time | 0:23:05 | 0:23:09
it felt like a shock but that was a
sign of what was going to come for | 0:23:09 | 0:23:13
Burnley. The revised nation for the
finish. He cannot stop scoring | 0:23:13 | 0:23:18
goals, Chris Wood. Grey was allowed
to these everybody question that, | 0:23:18 | 0:23:22
but Chris Wood has come in and on a
really good job. At Leicester he | 0:23:22 | 0:23:28
could not quite get into the team.
He went away to Leeds, scored a lot | 0:23:28 | 0:23:31
in the championship. Sean Dyche saw
something in him. The physicality | 0:23:31 | 0:23:36
and the reliability. He is a good
fit for Burnley. Morrissey | 0:23:36 | 0:23:40
Pochettino is well aware of how
dangerous Burnley could be today. -- | 0:23:40 | 0:23:45
Mauricio Pochettino. I was so
frustrated with that situation. We | 0:23:45 | 0:23:52
dropped two points in the end. It
was terrible for us. Yes, but now we | 0:23:52 | 0:23:59
move on. We want to win. Saturday
will be very tough. They believe a | 0:23:59 | 0:24:06
lot in the way that they play. And I
think at home they are very, very | 0:24:06 | 0:24:11
tough. We need to be ready. And we
are ready to fight because it will | 0:24:11 | 0:24:18
be a battle. We have picked quite a
few holes in Tottenham in the | 0:24:18 | 0:24:22
season, why they haven't been
performing so well. Victor Wanyama | 0:24:22 | 0:24:24
might be one of the biggest things.
He is back in training. But he has | 0:24:24 | 0:24:29
missed a lot. Has he been a big
factor for you? Hugely. When you | 0:24:29 | 0:24:33
miss him and Alderweireld you have a
double layer of big physical | 0:24:33 | 0:24:39
presence. Especially defensively. He
does something nobody else does, | 0:24:39 | 0:24:44
Victor Wanyama breaks up played like
a wrecking ball. Him and Mousa | 0:24:44 | 0:24:48
Dembele are a great pair. Great
signing. Pochettino would have | 0:24:48 | 0:24:52
worked with him. You cannot devalue
those players. They are really | 0:24:52 | 0:24:56
important, these players who occupy
parts of the pitch. That is what | 0:24:56 | 0:25:00
they have been missing, a bit of
experience in the central area. You | 0:25:00 | 0:25:04
look at Dele Alli, he hasn't scored
a league goal in two months. I don't | 0:25:04 | 0:25:08
know if that is Victor Wanyama's
influence. But that is a big thing. | 0:25:08 | 0:25:13
As, goals from that area. Yes, and
apart from doing well against Real | 0:25:13 | 0:25:18
Madrid, you wonder where they will
go. It is about character. They are | 0:25:18 | 0:25:23
young team. They haven't won
anything. You wonder how long they | 0:25:23 | 0:25:27
can keep this group together if they
are not going to win a trophy. It | 0:25:27 | 0:25:30
doesn't look like they will this
season. They did win against Real | 0:25:30 | 0:25:35
Madrid, let's not forget. Plenty
more to come: Including Ashley Young | 0:25:35 | 0:25:39
in an outfit which I am sure will
annoy the team currently top of the | 0:25:39 | 0:25:43
table. Lovely. Let's have a look at
the teams at the wrong end of the | 0:25:43 | 0:25:52
table. On Monday night Swansea
travelled to Everton in desperate | 0:25:52 | 0:25:58
need of point and it did not go
well. | 0:25:58 | 0:26:05 | |
We created some good chances. | 0:26:09 | 0:26:10
We created some good chances. He
buried it on his left foot at the | 0:26:10 | 0:26:15
far post. Huge goal for Swansea. I
don't think we defended it very | 0:26:15 | 0:26:20
well. It ended up being a clumsy
challenge... | 0:26:20 | 0:26:26
A little stutter step. Saved by the
goalkeeper onto the post. The | 0:26:29 | 0:26:33
follow-up goes in.
You know, they were quick on the | 0:26:33 | 0:26:36
follow-up. Everton draw level. I'm
also disappointed with the second | 0:26:36 | 0:26:42
goal. We were far too open.
Sensational goal. That is why | 0:26:42 | 0:26:46
Everton paid 45 million for Gylfi
Sigurdsson. A wonderful finish, but | 0:26:46 | 0:26:51
we should have done better with the
transition. Everton two, Swansea | 0:26:51 | 0:26:55
one. And the third one... The
challenge was outside the box. That | 0:26:55 | 0:27:03
is a free kick. Not a penalty.
Wayne Rooney steps up again. He | 0:27:03 | 0:27:08
missed the first one, he scores the
second one, Wayne Rooney! 3-1 to | 0:27:08 | 0:27:15
Everton.
The mood in the dressing room was | 0:27:15 | 0:27:17
very flat. We've got to focus
getting to 15 at the halfway point. | 0:27:17 | 0:27:23
We know what we must do in the
second half of the season. He was | 0:27:23 | 0:27:30
sacked two days later. Swansea
rooted at the bottom of the table. | 0:27:30 | 0:27:33
Everton are back in action this
lunchtime, against Chelsea. And we | 0:27:33 | 0:27:37
get the team news... | 0:27:37 | 0:27:39
On the back of four wins in their
last five games. Changes seemed | 0:27:41 | 0:27:45
unlikely for Everton today, yet they
make three to the side that overcame | 0:27:45 | 0:27:49
Swansea. Wanting absentee is Wayne
Rooney who is ill. Both centre | 0:27:49 | 0:27:54
halves are rested as Phil Jagielka
and Keane replaced Williams and | 0:27:54 | 0:27:58
Holgate. Chelsea make just one
alteration to their last league | 0:27:58 | 0:28:02
outing against Southampton as
Antonio Rudiger is preferred to Gary | 0:28:02 | 0:28:06
Cahill. With no Alvaro Morata, who
is suspended, the visitors go with | 0:28:06 | 0:28:09
Eden Hazard. Michy Batshuayi will
have to watch from the bench. | 0:28:09 | 0:28:15
Everton unbeaten under big Sam.
Chelsea have lost one of their last | 0:28:15 | 0:28:20
ten. This promises to be a pulsating
duel which will hopefully see off | 0:28:20 | 0:28:24
the foggy conditions, which are
hovering menacingly above Goodison | 0:28:24 | 0:28:26
Park.
I hope that for get blown away. Here | 0:28:26 | 0:28:31
is confirmation of the team for you.
Wayne Rooney missing because of the | 0:28:31 | 0:28:35
flu. Talking about having Wanyama
back before, but Rooney is a big | 0:28:35 | 0:28:44
miss considering how influential he
has been since Sam Allardyce came | 0:28:44 | 0:28:49
in. Last season, outstanding talent.
Comment on as well. Berkeley, | 0:28:49 | 0:28:53
another one. They are doing OK. Is
it really Sam who has done the work? | 0:28:53 | 0:29:02
The team, turned around, quite
remarkable, he was in the stand for | 0:29:02 | 0:29:05
the first one, but they are much
more direct, much more positive. | 0:29:05 | 0:29:09
It's a completely different mood.
There is some magic in Sam's | 0:29:09 | 0:29:11
management. Eden Hazard is going to
do the business for Chelsea up | 0:29:11 | 0:29:21
front. That's been a good
relationship, Eden Hazard and Morata | 0:29:21 | 0:29:26
of late. Eden Hazard can pick up
those little pockets of space. With | 0:29:26 | 0:29:33
Michy Batshuayi, he isn't getting a
look in. He must be thinking Morata | 0:29:33 | 0:29:38
is out of that position, he should
be in that role, instead he has gone | 0:29:38 | 0:29:45
for perjurer and Eden Hazard in
different positions. It'll be | 0:29:45 | 0:29:47
interesting to see how things go. --
for Pedro and Eden Hazard. Gylfi | 0:29:47 | 0:29:56
Sigurdsson was out Swansea and
wasn't really replaced. That ended | 0:29:56 | 0:29:58
Paul Clement's time at the club. It
is difficult of this question | 0:29:58 | 0:30:04
without being unkind, but do you
think somebody else could have done | 0:30:04 | 0:30:08
a better job? Does he not have the
tools at his disposal? Think about | 0:30:08 | 0:30:12
how long he was an assistant
manager. You have a go at | 0:30:12 | 0:30:15
management. The question will now
become a he cut out for it? 36 shots | 0:30:15 | 0:30:19
at goal without... No money to
spend... True. You have to buy and | 0:30:19 | 0:30:27
spend if you are in credit. You
could doom -- he could have done | 0:30:27 | 0:30:32
more with his players. But they
didn't really invest. | 0:30:32 | 0:30:41
The star signing of Sanchez from
Bayern Munich, fantastic talent, it | 0:30:41 | 0:30:45
did not work for him. They did not
spend a week lot of money, they got | 0:30:45 | 0:30:49
a loan deal, but he could not hit
the ground running. How would you | 0:30:49 | 0:30:56
replace a £50 million player? They
took somebody on loan and it was a | 0:30:56 | 0:30:59
gamble and they are really
struggling. The art of the next | 0:30:59 | 0:31:02
manager, a couple of those familiar.
Frank de Boer, Slaven Bilic, Ronald | 0:31:02 | 0:31:07
Koeman. Leon Britton. Giving Ryan
Giggs until the end of the season, I | 0:31:07 | 0:31:15
am sure! Swansea always had a
succession plan. Well, not now. Do | 0:31:15 | 0:31:20
they go to Ryan Giggs? He is one of
the Welsh all-time greats. Is there | 0:31:20 | 0:31:24
going to be a managerial career for
him, would that be a great platform | 0:31:24 | 0:31:29
for him? Very different direction
and Tony Pulis, so established and | 0:31:29 | 0:31:33
renowned for keeping teams in the
Premier League and keeping teams up, | 0:31:33 | 0:31:37
they are in a position where Premier
League survival is really important. | 0:31:37 | 0:31:41
I think if Leon Britton does well,
Jenkins wants to promote from | 0:31:41 | 0:31:45
within, he did it with Garry Monk
and maybe if Iheanacho wins games. | 0:31:45 | 0:31:49
He does not want to keep the job and
he says, but if he wins matches, he | 0:31:49 | 0:31:53
could be there for a long time.
Swansea sacked Swansea manager | 0:31:53 | 0:31:59
Clement and media day after he had
even interviews and we spoke to | 0:31:59 | 0:32:04
Tammy Abraham. Whoever is appointed,
they need to get the best out of the | 0:32:04 | 0:32:09
Chelsea loan knee, who sat down with
us this week. | 0:32:09 | 0:32:14
Where does Swansea's wink from? It
is grim. Nice to see you. Good to | 0:32:14 | 0:32:20
see you. I cannot get over the
contras between the last year's | 0:32:20 | 0:32:26
since we met you hear and the
situation you are now in with your | 0:32:26 | 0:32:31
club. There is no way of dressing it
up, you are in a tricky situation. | 0:32:31 | 0:32:37
Yes, definitely. It is tough, but a
big learning curve. This is a | 0:32:37 | 0:32:41
different experience for me, I am
used to coming from the Chelsea | 0:32:41 | 0:32:46
Academy where you are used to
winning a lot of things. And to be | 0:32:46 | 0:32:50
in this situation now is top. That's
slumping feeling of defeat once | 0:32:50 | 0:32:54
again from Swansea. We know we are a
good side, does not showing our | 0:32:54 | 0:32:59
complete potential and what we
capable of doing and that is | 0:32:59 | 0:33:04
something we need to do. Abraham to
finish it off, and it goes wide. You | 0:33:04 | 0:33:08
have not started the last six and
you have not scored in nine, how is | 0:33:08 | 0:33:13
that affecting a guy used to scoring
a shared load of goals? For me, I | 0:33:13 | 0:33:19
know personally I am capable of
scoring a lot of goals. And the | 0:33:19 | 0:33:22
chances are not coming. We're not
creating anything. The best strikers | 0:33:22 | 0:33:27
in the world go through this. You do
not always keep scoring, there are | 0:33:27 | 0:33:31
times you do not score and you have
to do other aspects of your game. | 0:33:31 | 0:33:34
For me, I know chances will come and
hopefully soon. And just make you | 0:33:34 | 0:33:39
have a little bit of shot conversion
rate, four goals this season from 25 | 0:33:39 | 0:33:45
shots, conversion rate to 60%.
Jermaine Defoe, 15%, Harry Kane 12%, | 0:33:45 | 0:33:52
Marcus Rashford 11%. So you are
proving that if you get your chance. | 0:33:52 | 0:33:57
Definitely. Like I said, chances
will come again and I know I will | 0:33:57 | 0:34:02
take my chances. Just have to stay
focused and relaxed. He have an | 0:34:02 | 0:34:07
interesting period with Crystal
Palace coming up, so up against | 0:34:07 | 0:34:12
Ruben Loftus-Cheek. And on Boxing
Day, you have Liverpool, so you face | 0:34:12 | 0:34:16
Dominic Solanke you. A strange
dynamic, because you are used to | 0:34:16 | 0:34:20
coming through with those guys. Yes,
it is nice to see people you grew up | 0:34:20 | 0:34:24
with pushing on to be first-team
players. Something you dream of as a | 0:34:24 | 0:34:28
young kid. Now we are doing it and
trying to do the best we can to get | 0:34:28 | 0:34:32
into our clubs. The best we see is
to go out and learn and try and do | 0:34:32 | 0:34:36
our best. It is not Chelsea, if it
is a Chelsea -- if it is somewhere | 0:34:36 | 0:34:42
else, so be it. Have you lead the
quotes from Antonio Conte that you | 0:34:42 | 0:34:47
and Ruben Loftus-Cheek the future of
Chelsea? I was there with him | 0:34:47 | 0:34:51
pre-season and he spoke to me a lot.
I did not quite understandably was | 0:34:51 | 0:34:55
saying! He just always wanted to
push me as hard as I can. When I | 0:34:55 | 0:35:00
went online to Swansea, he said,
keep improving yourself and do | 0:35:00 | 0:35:04
whatever it takes. The England
call-up, where were you when you got | 0:35:04 | 0:35:09
the call and found out? I was in the
physio with Swansea and I saw it | 0:35:09 | 0:35:15
coming up and breaking news. And I
couldn't believe it really. As soon | 0:35:15 | 0:35:20
as I saw my name, Tammy Abraham? And
I could not help but smile and | 0:35:20 | 0:35:26
everybody was coming to congratulate
me and I did not know how to react. | 0:35:26 | 0:35:31
There is that lovely footage where
Ian presents you with your match | 0:35:31 | 0:35:34
shirt for the day in the changing
room beforehand? | 0:35:34 | 0:35:37
Yes, for me, it did not feel real
even when he was giving me my shirt. | 0:35:37 | 0:35:41
I cannot help but smile. Even though
I try to stay serious, I could not | 0:35:41 | 0:35:48
help but smile, fantastic feeling.
What is it going to take for Tammy | 0:35:48 | 0:35:52
Abraham to make us are against gay
to's squad for Russia. -- to make | 0:35:52 | 0:35:58
Gareth Southgate's squad for Russia.
A couple of chances, try to do well | 0:35:58 | 0:36:01
and get the points for Swansea.
Just not creating chances. That is | 0:36:01 | 0:36:08
the assessment for Swansea. We spoke
about his shot conversion rate, but | 0:36:08 | 0:36:14
if you do not get opportunities
comedian not score goals which has | 0:36:14 | 0:36:18
been Swansea's problem this season.
He has had 25 out of 38 shots | 0:36:18 | 0:36:22
Swansea have had on target and
scored four goals and for your lead | 0:36:22 | 0:36:26
scorer at this stage of the season,
that is not enough. He has had a | 0:36:26 | 0:36:29
great season personally, he has been
involved with England and made his | 0:36:29 | 0:36:35
first and then start which is a
great achievement, but it is nowhere | 0:36:35 | 0:36:38
near enough goals so far this
season. We will see the goal he | 0:36:38 | 0:36:41
scored against Crystal Palace. | 0:36:41 | 0:36:43
I was pleased Gareth Southgate gave
him the confidence to get these | 0:36:45 | 0:36:50
players into the England team from a
young age. He's strong and physical. | 0:36:50 | 0:36:55
And I think he has got mentality.
You have to have any go. -- macro | 0:36:55 | 0:37:05
one. It is not perfect for him, but
it is a platform to start his career | 0:37:05 | 0:37:09
and that is what these Chelsea loan
you seem to be doing. That was | 0:37:09 | 0:37:14
against Palace who they play today.
Swansea bottom. The difference with | 0:37:14 | 0:37:19
powers, I know they started the
season by losing the first seven | 0:37:19 | 0:37:22
games, but they are unbeaten in
seven and flying and full of | 0:37:22 | 0:37:26
confidence in comparison to a Said,
-- A-side, change manager, | 0:37:26 | 0:37:31
interesting to see how Swansea react
today. A classic example of a team | 0:37:31 | 0:37:36
that has reacted well to a change in
management and hats off to Roy | 0:37:36 | 0:37:39
Hodgson. He has had key players
coming back and Zaha is one of the | 0:37:39 | 0:37:43
most influential in the Premier
League. Creating and scoring goals. | 0:37:43 | 0:37:48
Palace are a force at the moment so
that is a tough fixture for Swansea. | 0:37:48 | 0:37:52
We will check another team in 17
position, that is Stoke City. Poor | 0:37:52 | 0:37:57
performances from them in recent
weeks. And their manager is under a | 0:37:57 | 0:38:03
little pressure, Mark Hughes. We are
going to go to the Stadium where | 0:38:03 | 0:38:08
they take on West Ham this
afternoon, sorry, West Bromwich. | 0:38:08 | 0:38:12
Mike is there. Played with Stoke and
England in the 1970s. | 0:38:12 | 0:38:18
We will talk about your tae kwon do
career which is going down a storm | 0:38:21 | 0:38:25
on the BBC website. How worried are
you buy what you have seen this | 0:38:25 | 0:38:28
season, especially defensively? Yes,
very worried. It has gone on since | 0:38:28 | 0:38:36
debris last season. They have not
had a good month in terms of | 0:38:36 | 0:38:39
results. Only winning one game in
August, September, October this | 0:38:39 | 0:38:44
season. They did not win a game in
November. And they won won the | 0:38:44 | 0:38:49
beginning of this month and they
have lost the last three, is | 0:38:49 | 0:38:53
difficult time. There is always talk
about managers being under pressure. | 0:38:53 | 0:38:59
And there were suggestions this week
that if Stoke were to lose the West | 0:38:59 | 0:39:03
Bromwich, Mark Hughes may lose his
job, what is your take on the future | 0:39:03 | 0:39:06
of Mark Hughes at Stoke? I'd think
the club have given him until the | 0:39:06 | 0:39:12
Newcastle game, the New Year, the
next four games are important and I | 0:39:12 | 0:39:17
cannot see him getting much a
Chelsea the way they are playing at | 0:39:17 | 0:39:21
the moment. Mark Hughes came to the
club and he changed the style of | 0:39:21 | 0:39:25
Tony Pulis. That is the main factor
why he got the job. The fans had had | 0:39:25 | 0:39:29
enough of the one ball game Tony
used to play and they wanted a | 0:39:29 | 0:39:33
change of this boring background,
building up from the back and | 0:39:33 | 0:39:37
bringing the Spanish contingent in.
Playing through the midfield. And | 0:39:37 | 0:39:42
playing through the third. What we
are seeing now is desperation stuff, | 0:39:42 | 0:39:48
for me. It is just a long punt
upfield. Crouch, 37 years of age, as | 0:39:48 | 0:39:54
in him to do his best at the end of
it. We're not seeing any structured, | 0:39:54 | 0:39:59
controlled football like West Ham
last week with David Moyes. And it | 0:39:59 | 0:40:03
is really disappointing at the
moment. Talking about structure and | 0:40:03 | 0:40:06
control, I want to talk about
migratory. People might not know you | 0:40:06 | 0:40:10
at a national champion in your age
group -- three. From being a no | 0:40:10 | 0:40:16
estate -- defendable Stoke and Aston
Villa, when did taekwondo come into | 0:40:16 | 0:40:23
your life? I was coaching in Kuwait
with a former manager for Chelsea. | 0:40:23 | 0:40:27
That was in 94. Train six days a
week in 30, 40 degrees heat and I | 0:40:27 | 0:40:36
competed the fighting side in 1995.
When I came back to England, I do | 0:40:36 | 0:40:41
and a club and I carried on from
there and I took my gradings and now | 0:40:41 | 0:40:45
I am teaching and I have my own
Academy. And the last five, six | 0:40:45 | 0:40:51
years, I have competed at national
level and international level. I was | 0:40:51 | 0:40:54
fortunate last year in Peru to get a
Silva medal. But I find it really | 0:40:54 | 0:40:59
hard this year. Mentally, it is
tough. But I should have got the | 0:40:59 | 0:41:04
goal medal. But I should have been
World Champion. It has been hard | 0:41:04 | 0:41:08
this year to get back on track. Good
to see you still have that winning | 0:41:08 | 0:41:13
mentality, Mike! It is great at talk
to, all the best for the taekwondo | 0:41:13 | 0:41:18
and enjoy the match. That is Mike
Pejic, joining us from Stoke. | 0:41:18 | 0:41:21
You did a coaching course with Mike
pushed my guess, colourful | 0:41:21 | 0:41:26
character, great guy. I thought you
were going to ask if we did Martial | 0:41:26 | 0:41:30
arts. I did boxing and judo, all on
a Saturday afternoon, by the way! | 0:41:30 | 0:41:36
Yes, I have seen the taekwondo
coming out. Yes, he looks a bit | 0:41:36 | 0:41:41
tasty, I would not want to upset
him! West Bromwich have yet to win | 0:41:41 | 0:41:46
and Alan Pardew. How'd you see the
situation West Bromwich find | 0:41:46 | 0:41:50
themselves in, another team
desperate for points? Well, they | 0:41:50 | 0:41:52
are. If Jonny Evans is allowed to
leave, that is really bad news. He | 0:41:52 | 0:41:58
could be at a top six club. This
January. And both clubs really have | 0:41:58 | 0:42:04
fallen into very difficult times.
You look at it and I think Mark | 0:42:04 | 0:42:09
Hughes, this game, they have to win.
You look at the spine of the team | 0:42:09 | 0:42:16
and you see Shawcross and Fletcher
and Crouch and yet you are pinning a | 0:42:16 | 0:42:19
lot on three players past their best
within their careers. Another team | 0:42:19 | 0:42:24
in desperate need of a win is
Newcastle United, who have lost four | 0:42:24 | 0:42:28
in a row. They travel to West Ham
this afternoon and we can go to the | 0:42:28 | 0:42:34
London Stadium. Simon, good
afternoon. I would imagine Mr | 0:42:34 | 0:42:37
Benitez would love to find a striker
under the Christmas tree. I bet he | 0:42:37 | 0:42:41
would, let's hope that is not the
only thing he finds, he needs | 0:42:41 | 0:42:47
Mitrovic -- three or four decent
presents for Newcastle to prefer -- | 0:42:47 | 0:42:51
preserve their Premier League
status. He definitely needs a | 0:42:51 | 0:42:54
striker and somebody probably to
play behind him. I have seen names | 0:42:54 | 0:42:58
like Islam so many, Danny Ings. And
he needs somebody on the West Ham | 0:42:58 | 0:43:04
side -- on the left-hand side. We
have seen a name of Kennedy went. | 0:43:04 | 0:43:08
And he has been looking for a senior
goalkeeper for a long time. Three or | 0:43:08 | 0:43:13
four areas Newcastle need to invest
in. Any test has had a Conference | 0:43:13 | 0:43:17
call with Mike Ashley, that is how
serious is. Generally the 20th is | 0:43:17 | 0:43:22
the day he wants it sorted by and he
does not want to go to the last day | 0:43:22 | 0:43:27
of the window. Newcastle know they
are going to make an investment and | 0:43:27 | 0:43:31
the thing for the manager is, how
that investment is going to amount | 0:43:31 | 0:43:35
to. Mike Ashley is selling club, but
he is a he knows he needs to invest | 0:43:35 | 0:43:43
the game in the future. The gamble
of the money they spend in January, | 0:43:43 | 0:43:46
there were more than get that back
in the value of the club to stay up. | 0:43:46 | 0:43:51
He will get so much more for a club
with a secure Premier League future. | 0:43:51 | 0:43:55
The biggest asset Newcastle have is
the manager itself, Rafa Benitez. | 0:43:55 | 0:44:00
The crowd still very much with him
and whatever happens, the crowd | 0:44:00 | 0:44:04
realised they will not get a better
manager than him this season. Simon, | 0:44:04 | 0:44:07
it is great to talk to.
You spend a lot of time at West Ham, | 0:44:07 | 0:44:12
are you impressed with how much more
organised they are with David Moyes | 0:44:12 | 0:44:17
# definitely, really impressed with
the impact he has had. The | 0:44:17 | 0:44:21
personality and how he operates is
exactly what that group of players | 0:44:21 | 0:44:24
needed at this moment in time. He
has good players, beating the best | 0:44:24 | 0:44:30
out of Arnautovic was key, he was a
top signing and is not the easiest | 0:44:30 | 0:44:34
play in the world to manage and he
is getting more energy and more | 0:44:34 | 0:44:38
efforts on goal, more creativity.
They just looked a better and a | 0:44:38 | 0:44:42
bitter team all round and they are
heading in a really good direction. | 0:44:42 | 0:44:51
Celtic's unbeaten record came
unstuck three hours after we were | 0:44:51 | 0:44:55
praising them last Saturday... | 0:44:55 | 0:44:56
What a moment. So sweet for the
16-year-old. Malinga | 0:45:02 | 0:45:08
Kyle Lafferty! The invincible is are
in big trouble at Tynecastle. | 0:45:10 | 0:45:27
That was surely a challenge the
goalkeeper did not need to be | 0:45:37 | 0:45:40
making. He strikes again!
Milinkovic! It is invincibles no | 0:45:40 | 0:45:53
more. | 0:45:53 | 0:45:54 | |
At the end of the | 0:45:55 | 0:45:56
At the end of the long run, Celtic
still clear at the top of the | 0:45:56 | 0:45:59
Scottish Premiership at the moment.
I know | 0:45:59 | 0:46:04 | |
Scottish Premiership at the moment.
I know your son was watching Partick | 0:46:04 | 0:46:06
Thistle this week and, as well. They
are on an incredible run, aren't | 0:46:06 | 0:46:09
they? Amazing. It had to come to an
end. Craig Levein, new stadium, | 0:46:09 | 0:46:16
pretty much, fantastic result for
them. That lead is really difficult | 0:46:16 | 0:46:22
to call, let me tell you, I'm
watching it every weekend. Everybody | 0:46:22 | 0:46:25
can be anyone in that league. Graham
Murthy has been named as the Rangers | 0:46:25 | 0:46:30
manager for the rest of the season.
In the championship last night, | 0:46:30 | 0:46:36
Brentford beat Norwich by 2-1. In
the championship, we can talk to you | 0:46:36 | 0:46:43
about the fact Wolverhampton are top
at the moment. They have a good | 0:46:43 | 0:46:48
squad. Very high profile. Especially
for broody turner. He knows | 0:46:48 | 0:46:52
everybody. He has been well schooled
by his dad, Luke, take a look at | 0:46:52 | 0:46:56
this. -- Brodie turner. | 0:46:56 | 0:47:02
Matt? Dougherty. Leo? Then?
Marshall. Well done. I love that. He | 0:47:06 | 0:47:23
will be announcing the Wolverhampton
team at Molly looks. Nick McCarthy | 0:47:23 | 0:47:30
took Wolverhampton up in 2009. We
featured Bristol City in the | 0:47:30 | 0:47:34
championship last week who then
promptly upset Manchester United | 0:47:34 | 0:47:37
with a 2-1 win in the League Cup on
Wednesday night. Fantastic effort. | 0:47:37 | 0:47:44
Congratulations to Leon Johnson's
side. Ashley Young has been talking | 0:47:44 | 0:47:47
this week to us. | 0:47:47 | 0:47:51
Bristol City have pulled off the
probable result. What a win. | 0:47:52 | 0:47:58
Disappointing midweek. You've got to
dust yourself down. You've always | 0:47:58 | 0:48:01
got another game coming up. We are
looking to bounce back. | 0:48:01 | 0:48:09
Is it because of the expectation,
that it is expected from a team like | 0:48:12 | 0:48:16
Manchester United? There is always
expectation around Manchester | 0:48:16 | 0:48:20
United. Biggest club in the world.
You don't play for them if you don't | 0:48:20 | 0:48:24
know the expectations. As soon as he
walked through the door | 0:48:24 | 0:48:27
know the expectations. As soon as he
walked through the door you can see | 0:48:27 | 0:48:28
the expectations. Ashley Young goes
for it! Top corner! | 0:48:28 | 0:48:32
! It is as if it has gone full
circle for you. | 0:48:33 | 0:48:37
! It is as if it has gone full
circle for you. Yes, I enjoy playing | 0:48:37 | 0:48:41
football. I want to play games. They
have even been times where I have | 0:48:41 | 0:48:46
rested... You don't like that, do
you? I just want to be playing. As | 0:48:46 | 0:48:50
long as I am playing well, helping
the team, we are picking up points | 0:48:50 | 0:48:54
and winning games, that is all that
matters. Between Louis van Gaal and | 0:48:54 | 0:48:58
Jose Mourinho, they have reinvented
you, haven't they? They've given me | 0:48:58 | 0:49:04
the chance to play. Louis van Gaal
gave me the opportunity. The manager | 0:49:04 | 0:49:07
now has. I am playing further back
than I would like. It works. It | 0:49:07 | 0:49:15
does. I think I've got quite a good
footballing brain. As you get older | 0:49:15 | 0:49:19
you read the game more. You are more
aware of where you need to be on the | 0:49:19 | 0:49:23
pitch when you go forward because
then you need to come back. You have | 0:49:23 | 0:49:27
the seniority with the younger
players coming through. I am getting | 0:49:27 | 0:49:31
old? Welcome you know, old age. It
is what you are saying. I had people | 0:49:31 | 0:49:36
older than me when I first came.
They were giving the advice. If I | 0:49:36 | 0:49:40
can give that back to some of the
younger players in the squad, that | 0:49:40 | 0:49:43
is an achievement. Does it keep keep
you young? I think my name Young | 0:49:43 | 0:49:50
keeps me young.
CHUCKLES | 0:49:50 | 0:49:53
You are very good! | 0:49:53 | 0:49:56
Turkey. | 0:49:58 | 0:49:59
Rojo. | 0:50:04 | 0:50:05 | |
Candy cane. | 0:50:07 | 0:50:07
A doze of the sofa. | 0:50:09 | 0:50:11
Chris Smalling. | 0:50:13 | 0:50:14
Jose Mourinho.
CHUCKLES | 0:50:16 | 0:50:21
You want to be a DJ, don't you, you
want to be a DJ in Vegas? Yeah, | 0:50:21 | 0:50:26
music is a big passion of mine. Is
Jose Mourinho happy with the music? | 0:50:26 | 0:50:32
I think so. And you have the decks?
Yes. Are you any good? By myself I | 0:50:32 | 0:50:41
am brilliant.
CHUCKLES | 0:50:41 | 0:50:42
To an audience? I've never played to
an audience. I have had friends | 0:50:42 | 0:50:46
round. They said I'm OK. I will
stick to football. This title | 0:50:46 | 0:50:52
challenge, is it still on? Of
course. It's December. It isn't the | 0:50:52 | 0:50:57
end of the season yet. Nobody at the
club is saying it is over. We are | 0:50:57 | 0:51:01
looking to keep picking up points,
see what happens come the end of the | 0:51:01 | 0:51:04
season. Talking about Manchester
City, there is such a huge gap. Of | 0:51:04 | 0:51:09
course. I do really want to talk
about them, to be honest. The gap is | 0:51:09 | 0:51:12
what it is. But it is real, isn't
it, it is happening? Of course. But | 0:51:12 | 0:51:17
it is one of those things, we are a
team, we need to keep picking up | 0:51:17 | 0:51:23
points. Whatever the gap, two
points, 11 points, we just need to | 0:51:23 | 0:51:26
keep going out, winning games, try
and close the gap. Is a childhood | 0:51:26 | 0:51:31
dream of yours being here? Of
course. I still have the hunger, the | 0:51:31 | 0:51:35
hunger, the passion, the desire to
achieve. Lots is being said about | 0:51:35 | 0:51:40
younger players that it is just
about the cars, houses, look at auto | 0:51:40 | 0:51:43
Drive, look at what I've got, I've
come through it and I have seen | 0:51:43 | 0:51:47
people in football like that. --
look at what I drive. I look out for | 0:51:47 | 0:51:55
them. But coming from the old
school, it is about what you have | 0:51:55 | 0:51:59
achieved in the game. I can look
back so far and say, yes, I have | 0:51:59 | 0:52:03
achieved some things I have wanted
to, but there is more I want to | 0:52:03 | 0:52:07
achieve and I will show what I have
got from what I've done so far. | 0:52:07 | 0:52:11
He is very honest. He manages to
change perceptions. Not only of him, | 0:52:11 | 0:52:18
but the managers he is playing
under. He has personality, | 0:52:18 | 0:52:22
character, a bit of banter, eight
starts last year, 13 already this | 0:52:22 | 0:52:26
season. But he's a good player. Good
athlete. You watch him, he's a | 0:52:26 | 0:52:30
character within the dressing room.
He has had to be because the manager | 0:52:30 | 0:52:33
did not like him at the start. But
he is there. He is keeping Luke Shaw | 0:52:33 | 0:52:38
out of the team. That will be
another test for him. Jose Mourinho | 0:52:38 | 0:52:41
will stick with him because I think
he has done well for him. What a | 0:52:41 | 0:52:44
good player to have in the squad. He
has matured. Almost grown-up. He | 0:52:44 | 0:52:49
knows the mistakes he has made. He
knows what he wants to achieve. He | 0:52:49 | 0:52:53
knows more about himself and what
he's capable of, and that says a lot | 0:52:53 | 0:52:57
about a player. Talking about the
defeated Bristol City. Is that | 0:52:57 | 0:53:00
difficult on occasions like that?
That's relatively to Bristol City. | 0:53:00 | 0:53:06
Given the small task, if you do that
well, you given a bigger job to do | 0:53:06 | 0:53:11
later in the season? I think Jose
Mourinho is asking for more from his | 0:53:11 | 0:53:16
players. You've got to watch a bit
of that game against Bristol City, | 0:53:16 | 0:53:20
Bristol City were amazing. They were
magnificent. You were wondering, | 0:53:20 | 0:53:24
should they be playing in that
division? Good atmosphere. They've | 0:53:24 | 0:53:29
developed the ground a lot. You
question the manager's approach, | 0:53:29 | 0:53:33
rather than picking on the players?
Absolutely. Let's get back on track, | 0:53:33 | 0:53:38
work harder. Those games are the
biggest test. As a manager you might | 0:53:38 | 0:53:44
learn more about your players than
you would in a Premier League | 0:53:44 | 0:53:46
fixture. Sure. Leicester went out on
penalties to Manchester City in the | 0:53:46 | 0:53:51
same competition. They have a
ridiculous schedule. I know | 0:53:51 | 0:53:55
everybody plays a lot over
Christmas, but they have four games | 0:53:55 | 0:53:59
in nine days. Somebody will be
crying out for another winter break. | 0:53:59 | 0:54:02
This time of year is relentless,
isn't it? Yes, almost as if you are | 0:54:02 | 0:54:06
penalised for the success of the
team. It's a difficult period. As a | 0:54:06 | 0:54:11
player commits an adventure. You
need to impress Christmas. -- as a | 0:54:11 | 0:54:17
player, it is an adventure. I always
look forward to it. You cannot take | 0:54:17 | 0:54:20
part at home when Christmas comes,
but now I don't have that in my | 0:54:20 | 0:54:27
life, something is missing, I mean,
it is nice to be around the family, | 0:54:27 | 0:54:30
but the Boxing Day fixture was a
great occasion for me to do | 0:54:30 | 0:54:33
something over the Christmas period.
Merry Christmas to your family at | 0:54:33 | 0:54:36
home, by the way! We | 0:54:36 | 0:54:40
12:15pm. That is the 6th of January.
-- we will have all of the build-up | 0:54:42 | 0:54:50
from 12:15pm for that Leicester
game. | 0:54:50 | 0:54:54 | |
We promised you a little Craig
David. He areas. He is in the | 0:55:02 | 0:55:08
charts, alongside Bastille, with the
single I Know You. And he certainly | 0:55:08 | 0:55:12
has some Southampton knowledge. I
have supported Southampton since I | 0:55:12 | 0:55:23
was a kid. I went with my mum to
watch. They had some amazing players | 0:55:23 | 0:55:28
that got sold to big clubs. My
all-time favourite? That is | 0:55:28 | 0:55:33
difficult. Tim Flowers was a great
goalkeeper, we had Alan Shearer at | 0:55:33 | 0:55:37
one stage... But I would say Matt Le
Tissier. His goals, I think they are | 0:55:37 | 0:55:44
the same level as Messi. One of my
key moments will Southampton against | 0:55:44 | 0:55:50
Newcastle. The ball was played over
to Matt Le Tissier, he flipped it | 0:55:50 | 0:55:53
over one guy's head, another guy's
head, and rather than blasting it he | 0:55:53 | 0:55:57
placed it like a G. He represented.
Cool, classy goals. I think | 0:55:57 | 0:56:08
Pellegrini is doing a good job. He
understands the philosophy of the | 0:56:08 | 0:56:12
club. The players are respecting the
coach, as well. Managers come and go | 0:56:12 | 0:56:16
but we always hold our own. There is
a great spirit in the city of | 0:56:16 | 0:56:21
Southampton. It makes the club
great. Because we have been in | 0:56:21 | 0:56:23
League 1 and we worked all the way
back up to the Premier League. So | 0:56:23 | 0:56:28
once you get it it is great. Virgil
van Dijk, maybe... Again, when the | 0:56:28 | 0:56:35
money talks, sometimes people have
to walk. Southampton Huddersfield, I | 0:56:35 | 0:56:40
would like to think Southampton will
cruise this one. I would like to say | 0:56:40 | 0:56:43
it would be a 3-1 confident when. We
will let the last goal in quite late | 0:56:43 | 0:56:49
in the game. | 0:56:49 | 0:56:50
Sometimes we get some stars on
Premier League predictions and you | 0:56:53 | 0:56:56
could accuse them, maybe people like
Robert De Niro, John Cena, perhaps | 0:56:56 | 0:57:00
not knowing the Premier League, but
he really knows it and he is a | 0:57:00 | 0:57:04
proper Southampton fan. It's nice to
see. We saw with Noel Gallagher. He | 0:57:04 | 0:57:11
is the main Manchester City pundit
now. Not quite, but I know what you | 0:57:11 | 0:57:15
mean. Huddersfield is giving a
voucher -- Huddersfield's Zanka is | 0:57:15 | 0:57:30
putting out an offer. That is a
message to the fans, isn't it? A | 0:57:30 | 0:57:38
great touch. And I imagine he will
be a popular man. You've got to look | 0:57:38 | 0:57:41
after the supporters. Have you got
anything for the Arsenal fans? Sadly | 0:57:41 | 0:57:48
no, no particular gift. -- did you
have anything for the Arsenal fans? | 0:57:48 | 0:57:58
Three points was the gift you always
tried to give. Exactly. Thanks, | 0:57:58 | 0:58:03
guys, we will see you next year.
That is it from us. Have a terrific | 0:58:03 | 0:58:07
Christmas. We will see you on the
other side. We leave you with the | 0:58:07 | 0:58:12
team currently breaking all of the
record in the Premier League. They | 0:58:12 | 0:58:14
are, as you can see, top of the tree
and dreaming of a blue Christmas. | 0:58:14 | 0:58:20
Have a lovely time this Christmas.
We will see you again soon. Goodbye. | 0:58:20 | 0:58:24
The moon is not just rising, it has
been top | 0:58:59 | 0:59:02 |
