It is official, spring is here. Members of sport's most exclusive

:00:30.:00:36.

club were all in green last night for the Champions Dinner. It kicked

:00:37.:00:45.

off Masters week. The newest recruit is Adam Scott. The Australians

:00:46.:00:48.

served up a barbecue menu, what else? And his men's Pavlova for

:00:49.:00:58.

dessert. What a menu and what do you Adam has had since that historic

:00:59.:00:59.

play-off 12 months ago. This to win. There it is. A life

:01:00.:01:21.

changer. It rained during the play-offs last

:01:22.:01:45.

year and it was lashing down a game this week. The gates were closed on

:01:46.:01:50.

Monday for the first time since 2013 but normal service is resumed and it

:01:51.:01:53.

has been a glorious Georgia today on the course. And soaking it all in

:01:54.:01:59.

today and for the rest of the week, Peter Alliss and Ken Brown. It is a

:02:00.:02:04.

Masters without Tiger Woods for the first time in 20 years so what are

:02:05.:02:10.

your expectations? I think it is going to be very Open, it is going

:02:11.:02:13.

to be very interesting. Tiger will be missed, which will be in joined

:02:14.:02:20.

by a few, but a lot of the younger people, one or two of them have been

:02:21.:02:32.

blowing the Bugle is very loud. They are setting out strong. I am

:02:33.:02:40.

interested to see how they play, whether the bravado disappears when

:02:41.:02:46.

they go to the first tee. It is 24, and that is 12 more than last year,

:02:47.:02:50.

Rockies at the Masters. What impact do you think they might have? There

:02:51.:02:56.

is 24 of them and there is a field of almost 70. We have got young

:02:57.:03:01.

players coming through. It is difficult to get in the tournament

:03:02.:03:05.

so they deserve to be year. I would not be at all surprised if one or

:03:06.:03:10.

two of them came through. Matt Jones did well last week. They are going

:03:11.:03:14.

to make a bid for certain. But winning here for the first time is

:03:15.:03:19.

tricky. It is an Aussie in possession of the Green Jacket right

:03:20.:03:24.

now. It is Adam Scott. So what has been his highlight of the year?

:03:25.:03:29.

Probably going back to Australia and being able to share the Green Jacket

:03:30.:03:34.

with everyone is probably the most rewarding. So many people have putt

:03:35.:03:40.

a lot into my career, even people I do not know, so to be able to go

:03:41.:03:43.

back and take the Green Jacket home was a real thrill for me. You won

:03:44.:03:50.

three times on home soil. I wonder, how often did you wear the jacket

:03:51.:03:55.

around the house? I managed to slip it on a fair bit. It felt good

:03:56.:04:01.

making the copy in the morning. As you come back, there are so many

:04:02.:04:06.

things to appreciate. Your mum and dad are with you this week. What

:04:07.:04:12.

about Australian success? You ended a 77 year wait last year. To what

:04:13.:04:17.

extent will that be a start for something Australian here? I hope it

:04:18.:04:24.

is. I hope it broke the duck for us and now you only have to look at the

:04:25.:04:28.

last few weeks on Tour to see there is plenty of talent out of Australia

:04:29.:04:32.

and maybe some names people are not so familiar with winning on the

:04:33.:04:36.

biggest Tour in the world that have earned their place here this week.

:04:37.:04:41.

They legitimately have a chance to win. Jason Day has got a great

:04:42.:04:45.

record here so I hope this is the one that starts a real run for

:04:46.:04:50.

Australians at the Masters. You could even become the fourth person

:04:51.:04:55.

to retain the title here. What sort of form do you bring to Augusta? I

:04:56.:05:02.

like where my game is at. I have played well the last few weeks in

:05:03.:05:05.

Florida and my preparation was very good at home over the last couple of

:05:06.:05:10.

weeks. I have the confidence coming off the back of last year and feel

:05:11.:05:14.

very comfortable with the golf course so I am quietly confident I

:05:15.:05:17.

can move myself into a position similar to last year. He is trying

:05:18.:05:25.

to do what only Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods have done in

:05:26.:05:28.

regaining the title. What chance do you give him? The same chance as

:05:29.:05:35.

everyone else. But I have listened to all the pundits here and they say

:05:36.:05:38.

you have got to drive it 300 yard safe, have wonderful moves and putt

:05:39.:05:47.

it all together. It is like the Grand National, who is going to win?

:05:48.:05:53.

Some have a better chance than others. He has been a great champion

:05:54.:05:59.

for August because he has carried himself with such modesty. He is a

:06:00.:06:05.

very popular champion. Extremely popular because he has been a nice

:06:06.:06:17.

guy. He did it in foil style. He had did in glorious fashion. It is been

:06:18.:06:25.

a good year for Australian golf. Jason Day has a great opportunity to

:06:26.:06:31.

win the Masters. Greg Norman came close but finally the Green Jacket

:06:32.:06:36.

went to Australia. Even in the last eight weeks or so, for Victor Ruiz

:06:37.:06:42.

for Aussies. What extraordinary victories they work too. A monster

:06:43.:06:50.

putt last Sunday. They can't happen. But rather like watching Dynamo

:06:51.:06:59.

doing his magic, it happens. And there are seven Australians in the

:07:00.:07:04.

field, including Oliver Goss, Matt Jones, Marc Leishman as well. So

:07:05.:07:14.

many who could spring a surprise. Matt Jones had that fantastic win in

:07:15.:07:21.

Houston. And he had a hole in one today. Matt Jones comes in today

:07:22.:07:26.

with a real buzz. But it is Adam Scott who comes in as the top ranked

:07:27.:07:30.

player in the tournament in the absence of Tiger Woods who has just

:07:31.:07:36.

undergone surgery to fix a nerve in his back. He is going to be out of

:07:37.:07:40.

action until the summer at least. He has not won a major for six years

:07:41.:07:45.

and he remains for behind the record of 18. But it means he could lose

:07:46.:07:51.

his top spot in the rankings as Scott can finish at least in third

:07:52.:07:56.

place. Jason Day also have a chance to leap up to the top of the

:07:57.:08:01.

rankings. Justin Rose is the highest placed of the UK golfers but the

:08:02.:08:05.

favourite with the bookmakers is the man one place below Justin Rose,

:08:06.:08:07.

Rory McIlroy. My goodness, Rory McIlroy is

:08:08.:08:23.

bleeding. He has gone. It is moments like this that the

:08:24.:08:29.

game becomes very cruel. Do you feel you have got some

:08:30.:08:32.

unfinished business because of what happened three years ago? Not

:08:33.:08:36.

really, because I have moved on and I have one some Majors since. If I

:08:37.:08:42.

get myself in that position again I will be able to handle it much

:08:43.:08:48.

better than I did a few years ago. Installed as the favourite, how

:08:49.:08:51.

difficult is it to manage those expectations? I have been favourite

:08:52.:08:56.

for a lot of tournaments before so that is nothing new. It is not

:08:57.:09:02.

really matter. It is what you feel yourself. I feel I have got as good

:09:03.:09:05.

a chance as anyone going into this week. Watching how golf has unfolded

:09:06.:09:11.

this season, there have been so many first-time winners. Do you think

:09:12.:09:15.

you'd someone could win here on the debut? I can't see someone winning

:09:16.:09:20.

on their debut. Experience counts too much. Guys like myself, Matt

:09:21.:09:27.

Kuchar, Adam Scott, who have had tournaments and have not quite been

:09:28.:09:31.

able to finish the job. We are all coming here with experience of being

:09:32.:09:35.

in contention this year and knowing not what to do and hopefully being

:09:36.:09:40.

able to correct the mistakes that we may coming down the stretch of this

:09:41.:09:45.

tournament. Northern Ireland golfers have won three of the Majors. What

:09:46.:09:51.

would it mean to you to finish that Grand Slam this week and slip on

:09:52.:09:55.

that Green Jacket? It would mean an awful lot. For a person from

:09:56.:10:00.

Northern Ireland to win all four Majors would be a very good feet for

:10:01.:10:04.

a small country so it would be a great thing to achieve and I am one

:10:05.:10:09.

of three guys who could maybe do it this week.

:10:10.:10:15.

Rory does seem to be in a more settled frame of mind can pay to

:10:16.:10:19.

this time last year. Do you share the bookmakers' faith? He is a

:10:20.:10:25.

wonderful player to watch, he has won two Majors, it is down to the

:10:26.:10:29.

luck of the draw, how you play, how you get to certain situations. Your

:10:30.:10:34.

bit of good fortune, his bit of bad luck. I rather get tired of things.

:10:35.:10:40.

You don't go a bit here, what happens, happens. You try and get it

:10:41.:10:44.

all in place, you try to get this right and this right, and then it

:10:45.:10:55.

happens. Hand on heart, nobody can tell you why. You can feel like $1

:10:56.:11:02.

million and the first shot goes out of bounds or you can get a record

:11:03.:11:08.

score. There are things you can improve and what could be improved

:11:09.:11:14.

for Rory at Augusta? He has got the perfect game for August and he knows

:11:15.:11:19.

it. He has got to putt reasonably well, he has spoken about his

:11:20.:11:23.

strategy at the par fives, he has had this relentless urge to go for

:11:24.:11:27.

them and sometimes you have just got to play the percentage. Getting the

:11:28.:11:32.

tactics right on this golf course. He has definitely got the game.

:11:33.:11:37.

Sometimes he has got to say, I am going to hold back, pitcher and walk

:11:38.:11:42.

on. If he can get that right, he comes here as a justifiable

:11:43.:11:46.

favourite. Darren Clarke is here as well so they have got a real chance

:11:47.:11:52.

of doing something special. We spoke about Graeme McDowell and we talk

:11:53.:11:54.

about this Northern Ireland Grand Slam, and this man has been a little

:11:55.:12:00.

underrated this season. He has had a brilliant time of it. He leads the

:12:01.:12:06.

batting stats. That is crucial around the Augusta National. --

:12:07.:12:12.

patting. The only thing you would say about Graeme McDowell, he is not

:12:13.:12:18.

the longest. He will not be able to reach all the par fives. But he has

:12:19.:12:29.

got that quiet confidence so you would not count him out. We would

:12:30.:12:34.

have got to talk about Darren Clarke and he will tear in his 500 event

:12:35.:12:40.

tomorrow. He is very lean, he has lost a lot of weight, and we wish

:12:41.:12:50.

Darren very well. While Rory McIlroy gets ready for his sixth Masters,

:12:51.:12:55.

one youngster from Sheffield is all set for his first. Matthew

:12:56.:13:00.

Fitzpatrick announced himself to the world last year by winning the US

:13:01.:13:04.

amateur title. The first Englishman for almost a century to do it.

:13:05.:13:13.

Eubank a silver medal as well. Tellez your impressions of what you

:13:14.:13:19.

see at Augusta. The place is amazing, it is so green everywhere

:13:20.:13:23.

and there is nothing out of place. It is everything I expected. You had

:13:24.:13:30.

a chance to take a spin around the course with Rory McIlroy. That was

:13:31.:13:36.

pretty special. He invited me out so that was great. I really appreciated

:13:37.:13:43.

that. What about the nitty-gritty of being at the Masters, the Crow's

:13:44.:13:48.

Nest. What is that like? I stayed there last night and it was fun. The

:13:49.:13:53.

history is really special. I am staying with the family for the rest

:13:54.:13:58.

of the week. I understand there is a large contingent of family out here.

:13:59.:14:03.

I have got my mum and dad, brother, girlfriend and a couple of friends.

:14:04.:14:10.

Adam Scott, Jason Dufner, alongside them, what kind of expectations do

:14:11.:14:16.

you have in that kind of company? It is something I am looking forward

:14:17.:14:20.

to. It would be made -- great to make the cut in that company.

:14:21.:14:27.

Hopefully my game is in decent shape but we will have to see come

:14:28.:14:31.

Thursday. I am really excited to get going. What a prospect, what would

:14:32.:14:40.

you say to him before tomorrow? It is important to get this in the

:14:41.:14:46.

right place and I would say, try to enjoy this. This is a cauldron, I

:14:47.:14:53.

came here only twice to play and I was totally overwhelmed by this.

:14:54.:14:57.

Just hopeless. That is the great fear, tell him to try to enjoy this

:14:58.:15:03.

and you either favourite, your favourite golf course, try to get

:15:04.:15:08.

that picture, go through a series of mental pic shares, playing a course

:15:09.:15:16.

very well and then enjoy it. You never know what will happen. One of

:15:17.:15:22.

six amateurs and the results of another Englishman, the British

:15:23.:15:29.

amateur champion, Garrick Porteous. He will turn professional next week.

:15:30.:15:33.

Young Englishman starting their careers, they were not even born

:15:34.:15:39.

when Nick Faldo won the first of his Greenjackets 25 years ago. Forcing

:15:40.:15:46.

the third round, Faldo is struggling with his putting. He made the

:15:47.:15:53.

crucial decision. I went out and parted like I could not believe.

:15:54.:16:04.

Wonderful part. Some of the greatest I have ever had. The American had

:16:05.:16:15.

one to win. I thought, I could still there the -- I could still win this

:16:16.:16:20.

but it does not look very good. I tell you! The 11th and Faldo made

:16:21.:16:27.

him pay. That was the sweetest putt I have ever had in my life. What a

:16:28.:16:36.

way to do it! Follow would win again in 1990 and 1996, the last Brett to

:16:37.:16:48.

win the green jacket. -- Brit. The Golden age at Augusta Agana Sandy

:16:49.:16:52.

Lyle imagine idiot and ended with Nick Faldo in 1996 and we must go

:16:53.:16:58.

back to 1999 for the last European victory and that was Jose Maria

:16:59.:17:08.

Olazabal. Who is in the best position to put this right? Justin

:17:09.:17:14.

Rose? He is coming in under the radar, considering he is a reigning

:17:15.:17:21.

champion? Under the radar! They have injured themselves in the gymnasium.

:17:22.:17:26.

I lived in a different time, but I cannot remember anyone other than a

:17:27.:17:34.

player having burst appendicitis but nobody was ever injured. All these

:17:35.:17:39.

fellows, in an effort to be Mr universe, they have pulled muscles

:17:40.:17:48.

or they go skiing and break a leg. That is the way it is in these

:17:49.:17:51.

modern times but I do not understand it. Tendinitis. Shoulder problems.

:17:52.:18:01.

He seems to be convinced that he is over that but that has hampered him

:18:02.:18:05.

over the past few months. He missed a couple of tournaments, but I

:18:06.:18:10.

watched him on the range and he was swinging very nicely. If you have an

:18:11.:18:14.

injury, you don't quite throw yourself at this quite so hard and

:18:15.:18:19.

that does help your timing. He would not be playing if he did not think

:18:20.:18:23.

he didn't have a great chance. One man desperate to win a major is Lee

:18:24.:18:29.

Westwood, top 38 times over the years. He is still searching for

:18:30.:18:36.

answers. Is he likely to find them? I am a fan and I have watched him

:18:37.:18:41.

since he was a young man laying amateur things and I like him

:18:42.:18:45.

enormously. Maybe the chance has gone? Very few people over 40, Vijay

:18:46.:18:53.

Singh, Miguel Jimenez, but it does not happen to many. I do not

:18:54.:18:59.

understand all of the changes that people make today, Luke Donald,

:19:00.:19:06.

Padraig Harrington, they don't seem, in my opinion, to get better, you

:19:07.:19:13.

can become more consistent. You don't need 1 million balls to do

:19:14.:19:17.

that. You learn how to head and then play. That is the great key about

:19:18.:19:24.

golf. In any sport. You learn how to hit and then play. When striving for

:19:25.:19:30.

perfection, they go backwards, they all have. You talk about Luke

:19:31.:19:36.

Donald, and he has made some swing changes, new coach, hearing things

:19:37.:19:41.

to try to win a major, get some extra length. This is a place that

:19:42.:19:47.

seems to have inspired him. He has a nice record. He is one of the

:19:48.:19:53.

greatest putters. In his day, no one like him. He played with rose last

:19:54.:20:02.

year at the U.S. Open in the final round. And we could see him pulling

:20:03.:20:09.

off those shots and he could not. -- Justin Rose. He tends to rule his

:20:10.:20:15.

wrists. That is what he is trying to eliminate. At least that is what he

:20:16.:20:22.

thinks he has to do. We have Ian Poulter, Jamie Donaldson, current

:20:23.:20:26.

European number one, Stephen Gallacher, 38 years old, making his

:20:27.:20:33.

debut for Scotland. Who do you like from that trio? Who do you feel has

:20:34.:20:39.

the game? There is a wonderful mixed bag. Ken talks a lot of sense but

:20:40.:20:46.

many short hitters have been running around here. I would say at least 15

:20:47.:20:57.

or 20%. You must wait, when the ground was dry, Ken would win three

:20:58.:21:01.

tournaments every year. I know they have lengthened it but if you chip

:21:02.:21:08.

and putt, you do the right things. You just put them all in a hat and

:21:09.:21:13.

some appear to have more experience and knowledge and game plan and this

:21:14.:21:19.

and that, they seem to have more the Chancellor others, but the

:21:20.:21:25.

bookmakers usually get it right! -- more of a chance than others. But

:21:26.:21:29.

somebody might come out of the woodwork. Bookmakers fancied Garcia

:21:30.:21:38.

and Henrik Stenson. That is look at some of the key groups going out in

:21:39.:21:43.

round number one tomorrow. Adam Scott, defending champion, with

:21:44.:21:44.

Jason Dufner. And
