This programme contains scenes of repetitive flashing images. | :00:07. | :00:32.
Good evening. Welcome to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The place | :00:33. | :00:40.
that was the epicentre of London 2012. What a setting for four days | :00:41. | :00:44.
of extraordinary sporting action for people who will not take no for an | :00:45. | :00:49.
answer. Who will not list on the the words, "You can't." It has been "I | :00:50. | :00:55.
can." It is the Latin for unconquerored. | :00:56. | :00:59.
We've had Prince Harry getting sin-binned during wheelchair rugby. | :01:00. | :01:04.
It has been a fantastic few days. He has been on his bike trying to get | :01:05. | :01:09.
to as many venues as possible. This has been for 410 sick and injured | :01:10. | :01:13.
servicemen and women. They have completed across nine sports. They | :01:14. | :01:19.
have represented 13 nations. Every from Afghanistan to New Zealand. We | :01:20. | :01:23.
will show you the sporting side of things. It has not just been about | :01:24. | :01:27.
winning, it is important, of course. It has been about team spirit, about | :01:28. | :01:33.
motivation. It all culminates here tonight. I popped out to the lawns | :01:34. | :01:37.
behind me to find out who people were excited about seeing tonight. | :01:38. | :01:46.
Who are you most excited about? Darrell Goulding. We love James | :01:47. | :01:58.
Blunt. Bryan Adams has to be the best. The | :01:59. | :02:09.
Kaiser Chiefs. We will get our competitors' medals and then the Foo | :02:10. | :02:13.
Fighters. You are the warm-up guy! | :02:14. | :02:19.
We are here to see The Vamps. Darrell Goulding and the Foo | :02:20. | :02:25.
Fighters. I will call you the Foo Fighters' family. Is that your mum | :02:26. | :02:33.
and dad's choice? Would your dream night out be with Dave Grohl? That | :02:34. | :02:38.
would be mine! I am so relieved it is a lovely | :02:39. | :02:45.
evening and people started to arrive here from 4pm or earlier than that | :02:46. | :02:48.
and they were able to have picnics as they wait for the music to start. | :02:49. | :02:53.
We will show you the best acts. I am looking forward to Blunt. I know it | :02:54. | :02:58.
ages me somewhat. That is fine. I was tempted to stay with the Foo | :02:59. | :03:03.
Fighters family. They had a picnic sorted out. The person I think most | :03:04. | :03:08.
people are trying to catch a glimpse of and trying to get a selfie with | :03:09. | :03:12.
and say hello to and thank you is to the guy whose idea this was. He | :03:13. | :03:18.
picked it up from the warrior games. He transported it here and he is of | :03:19. | :03:23.
course Prince Harry. Let's chat with the man whose idea | :03:24. | :03:28.
this was. Your Royal Highness, are you happy with how it has gone? I am | :03:29. | :03:32.
happy. When you have something in your head it is dangerous. You know | :03:33. | :03:36.
how you want it to pan out. You never know whether it will. But, as | :03:37. | :03:40.
I said, numerous times over this past week, the British public have | :03:41. | :03:44.
taken to this like ducks to water. That is what we wanted. They have | :03:45. | :03:48.
outdone themselves, as always. Is it a relief it's gone so well and the | :03:49. | :03:53.
stress has gone? Is it stressful to put on an event of this scale? It | :03:54. | :03:58.
is. It has been stressful throughout the year, but fun. During the Games | :03:59. | :04:07.
stress levels were high. It is the last bit that people start to relax. | :04:08. | :04:11.
Everyone thinks it is all sorted. It is not. It is far from sorted until | :04:12. | :04:15.
every individual who has to get on a plane gets on a plane, uninjured, | :04:16. | :04:19.
with their family on the way back with a smile on their face. That is | :04:20. | :04:23.
mission success. Until that point we have to worry about a lot of people. | :04:24. | :04:27.
It is good. It is healthy. Really good for you. Let's look at | :04:28. | :04:31.
some of the sporting highlights from the last four days. | :04:32. | :04:46.
# I am the master of my fate # I am the captain of my | :04:47. | :05:19.
# I am the master of my fate I am the captain of my soul | :05:20. | :06:36.
shirt. Thankfully we are mates. There were some wonderful moments | :06:37. | :06:40.
there. Do you have a particular favourite moment from the whole | :06:41. | :06:44.
thing? If I am allowed the to, it will be Friday night - the final of | :06:45. | :06:50.
the wheelchair rugby. GB against America. 6,000 people - the roof | :06:51. | :06:56.
came off. It is when the penny sunk in. It was like, wow, that is the | :06:57. | :07:00.
British public doing what they do best. It was a tight match. People | :07:01. | :07:06.
were like, did you script it? One thing we could not organise is how | :07:07. | :07:10.
it would end. So a draw until the last 40 seconds, last minute, | :07:11. | :07:15.
whatever it was. Then we won it and got the triple crown - getting all | :07:16. | :07:19.
three golds against the Americans. It has been the absolute dream. It | :07:20. | :07:25.
has been absolutely fantastic. With content like this you will pull | :07:26. | :07:29.
heart strings. We've had tears, we've had all sorts. I have managed | :07:30. | :07:35.
to hold myself together. We have a fantastic closing ceremony to come. | :07:36. | :07:40.
You can hear some rehearsals in the background, probably. It will be | :07:41. | :07:43.
interesting to see how many people turn up at the beginning. We have | :07:44. | :07:49.
26,000 in total. Hopefully not all foo fighter fans. In terms of what | :07:50. | :07:56.
happens now, in the Invictus games, what do you want it to achieve, not | :07:57. | :08:01.
just whether it can be staged again and where, but the wider impact of | :08:02. | :08:05.
what we have seen? From the word go, once again in your mind you can see | :08:06. | :08:09.
how you hope it will pan out and hope that the way, from my | :08:10. | :08:18.
perspective, I hoped the way I felt in Colorado Springs who echo through | :08:19. | :08:21.
to others. Thankfully it has happened, which is great. I think | :08:22. | :08:31.
America, 22016, Canada -- 2016, Canada 2017, there are people saying | :08:32. | :08:34.
different things. I want to make sure it happens in the UK again. | :08:35. | :08:38.
People are only just finding out about it and how amazing it is and | :08:39. | :08:42.
how amazing it makes them feel and how amazing it makes the competitors | :08:43. | :08:49.
feel. It should be called "the good fun games." Invictus is a great | :08:50. | :08:56.
name. There have been some wonderful moments with Dave Henson saying his | :08:57. | :09:02.
new life can begin because of the Games. I walked around the lawns | :09:03. | :09:06.
today and a little girl said, I am going to start to do sport because I | :09:07. | :09:10.
have watched so much great stuff this week. We will show you a video | :09:11. | :09:14.
of the impact this has had. There is one person to thank and | :09:15. | :09:23.
that is Prince Harry, for putting this together and being the driving | :09:24. | :09:26.
force. Of events like this are once in a | :09:27. | :09:31.
lifetime deal, not only for athletes like me but for those in the tuure. | :09:32. | :09:38.
-- future It is something we hope to take home to Australia. I cannot | :09:39. | :09:44.
describe how I feel right now. For the people here and how they back | :09:45. | :09:49.
them up. I cannot believe how well they have done. It is on. It is more | :09:50. | :09:54.
than I could ever have hoped for. Thank you for believing in us and | :09:55. | :09:58.
giving us these fantastic moments and opportunities. Thank you, Harry. | :09:59. | :10:01.
We love you. Thank you, Harry. What do you think | :10:02. | :10:05.
when you hear that? It is fantastic. At the end of the day, sometimes I | :10:06. | :10:09.
find myself as being a voice for them. All I have done is create an | :10:10. | :10:15.
opportunity for them, through a lot of hard work from other people. | :10:16. | :10:20.
We've had fun doing it. It kept me out of the office. Kept me out of a | :10:21. | :10:29.
desk job. The thank yous - it is polite of them to say thank you. For | :10:30. | :10:34.
me, as I said, I know the effect it has on them. Why wouldn't you | :10:35. | :10:39.
enlarge something on a smaller scale to a bigger scale? Try and change | :10:40. | :10:44.
400 lives as opposed to one. That is just the competitors. We've had | :10:45. | :10:49.
e-mails from America, from the UK, children, wives, husbands, you name | :10:50. | :10:54.
it, all over the place, saying wow, I had given up all my life until I | :10:55. | :10:58.
saw what these guys had achieved. That is what it is about. They are | :10:59. | :11:04.
ambassadors to their nations and should be incredibly proud. It is | :11:05. | :11:08.
only the beginning. Congratulations on the start of something very | :11:09. | :11:13.
special. Thank you both for showing your support, along with the 26,000 | :11:14. | :11:16.
other people as well. Bring on the next one. See you there. | :11:17. | :11:20.
It shows you what an important event this is. It is just the beginning. | :11:21. | :11:28.
We will hear from Prince Harry later on. I was struck by how he said it | :11:29. | :11:35.
is not over yet. He said it is not over until they all get on planes, | :11:36. | :11:39.
until they all get home safely and are back with their families and | :11:40. | :11:43.
everyone can recover. He said he would probably sleep for a week. It | :11:44. | :11:48.
is his birthday tomorrow. Tonight we will bring you highlights from | :11:49. | :11:53.
Darrell Goulding. We have James Blunt -- from Ellie Goulding. We | :11:54. | :12:07.
have James Blunt. First we have the Royal Corps of Drums. | :12:08. | :12:27.
It matters not how charged with punishment the scroll, I am the | :12:28. | :12:59.
master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul. | :13:00. | :13:04.
# # You were the sun | :13:05. | :14:18.
# You don't know the way I love you | :14:19. | :14:24.

# Cry me a river | :14:59. | :15:07.
# Cry me a river CHEERING AND | :15:08. | :15:45.
Please welcome Bryan Adams. CHEERING AND | :15:46. | :15:49.
APPLAUSE # She says her love for me could | :15:50. | :16:00.
never die # But that'd change if she ever | :16:01. | :16:05.
found out about you and I # It wouldn't hurt her if she | :16:06. | :16:12.
didn't know, 'cause # When it gets too much | :16:13. | :16:22.
I need to feel your touch # Cos when the feelin's right | :16:23. | :16:27.
I'm gonna run all night # She's got a heart of gold | :16:28. | :16:38.
she'd never let me down # But you're the one that always | :16:39. | :16:57.
turns me on # But it's so damn easy makin' love | :16:58. | :17:00.
to you # I got my mind made up | :17:01. | :17:13.
I need to feel your touch # Cos when the feelin's right | :17:14. | :17:19.
I'm gonna stay all night # Oh, when the feelin's right | :17:20. | :17:33.
I'm gonna run all night # Cos when the feelin's right | :17:34. | :17:40.
I'm gonna stay all night # Yeah, when the feelin's right | :17:41. | :18:31.
I'm gonna stay all night # I'm gonna run to you, | :18:32. | :18:50.
run to you. # still have my guitar pick in my | :18:51. | :19:23.
hand. How did it feel up there? It was nice to be the first to sing | :19:24. | :19:30.
live tonight. When you heard about the Invictus Games, did you put up | :19:31. | :19:34.
your hands and say, I want to be there? Yes. It was a surprise. The | :19:35. | :19:41.
reason I am doing it solo is because my band are everywhere else in the | :19:42. | :19:47.
world. I am really happy to be here. For you, really strong connections | :19:48. | :19:52.
both your grandfathers were in the Army? And your father as well. You | :19:53. | :20:00.
are a photographer as well as a worldwide musician - you are a | :20:01. | :20:04.
photographer as well and you have produced these extraordinary images | :20:05. | :20:08.
of people in the Armed Forces, injured in the course of their work, | :20:09. | :20:12.
in the course of battle. I did a book which came out last year on | :20:13. | :20:18.
11th November, which was called Wounded - The Legacy of War. It is a | :20:19. | :20:26.
document to the time of the last 10-12 years, with people coming back | :20:27. | :20:32.
from the Middle East and Afghanistan, you know, seriously | :20:33. | :20:36.
wounded and the project started about five years before the book | :20:37. | :20:41.
release. It was to be an exhibition. There was no, I didn't really know | :20:42. | :20:46.
what we would end up with. But after having worked with 30 of these guys | :20:47. | :20:53.
and girls from the British Army, it felt right to make a book out of it. | :20:54. | :20:57.
Some are here competing in the Games. Let's see some of these | :20:58. | :21:02.
images because they are extremely powerful. | :21:03. | :21:06.
All these guys are great. What is interesting is a lot of them have | :21:07. | :21:15.
this thing that, OK, I've lost my legs, but I will keep going and the | :21:16. | :21:18.
determination not to let these injuries hold them back. It was | :21:19. | :21:22.
really humbling to work with them over the period of time that I did. | :21:23. | :21:36.
Let's look at Joe Townsend. He's in such good shape and really fit. Not | :21:37. | :21:41.
letting the injury get him down. I am really happy this is happening | :21:42. | :21:45.
for everybody. Not only is there the physical, but there is the moral | :21:46. | :21:49.
thing that happens and the psychological thing of being able to | :21:50. | :21:57.
carry on with your life and I made mention in the song She Knows Me, | :21:58. | :22:02.
about what has surprised me and made me happy is a lot of the wives and | :22:03. | :22:07.
girls with these guys before they went to combat are still there at | :22:08. | :22:12.
the end. Even though these guys had lost their legs or arms, they | :22:13. | :22:15.
carried on and some even have families now. It is fantastic. The | :22:16. | :22:19.
other amazing thing, I think, is the trust you have in them - the trust | :22:20. | :22:24.
they have in you as well to make the photos the way they are, because you | :22:25. | :22:29.
use humour in some, you use their personality. It comes across. It is | :22:30. | :22:33.
a terrific book and a great performance. Thank you very much. | :22:34. | :22:37.
The thing about working with these guys is they came in with the | :22:38. | :22:42.
humour. Believe me, sometimes it was like one guy would come in with six | :22:43. | :22:47.
others and they were all having a laugh. I think it continues on, even | :22:48. | :22:56.
though they are badly injured. Everyone is there for them, you | :22:57. | :22:59.
know. That is what is great about today. Exactly! It is what is great | :23:00. | :23:05.
about this event. Thank you for coming in. My pleasure. | :23:06. | :23:09.
Hello everyone. Hello, are we good today? First, we should say thank | :23:10. | :23:22.
you to the pipers, the brigade of Gurkhas. An amazing day. Thank you | :23:23. | :23:29.
for being here to support our wounded warriors. Thank you to | :23:30. | :23:35.
Diversity for helping us countdown in the closing ceremony. Thank you | :23:36. | :23:39.
to the legend that is Bryan Adams. So good! | :23:40. | :23:44.
I love Bryan Adams. Of so we have an amazing day for you today. Like I | :23:45. | :23:50.
said, to end an incredible week. Who do we have? We have the most | :23:51. | :23:55.
fantastic line-up. We have The Vamps on this stage. They are the fans! | :23:56. | :24:01.
The military wives are going to be on the stage. We have got a lady | :24:02. | :24:12.
called Ellie Goulding on this stage. We have the mighty Kaiser Chiefs. | :24:13. | :24:20.
And we have probably the biggest rock band in the entire world - the | :24:21. | :24:25.
Foo Fighters are going to be here. Oh, yeah! That is going to be a | :24:26. | :24:30.
moment - I cannot wait! Let's get things started. Are you ready for | :24:31. | :24:36.
your next act on this main stage? Please give it up for the Rizzle | :24:37. | :24:39.
Kicks. # Mama won't you please let me | :24:40. | :25:00.
Mama won't you please let me # Yeah lemme touch back down | :25:01. | :25:23.
Uh Slap her on the bum until it # Comes back round | :25:24. | :25:26.

How I've got this much energy is # beyond me | :26:03. | :26:05.
I just want all of these girls to be # on me And maybe even one of them | :26:06. | :26:08.

Everyone, hands together! Here is what we are going to do! We are | :28:16. | :28:21.
going to take this back to its country roots. We sing something, | :28:22. | :28:31.
you sing it right back to us. Say, mamma, Mama do the hump! | :28:32. | :28:40.
Singh Olympic Park, Olympic Park! Announcing it! Mamma, do the hump, | :28:41. | :28:56.
mamma, do the hump-comp! -- now sing it! | :28:57. | :29:13.
Thank you so much for listening to us! Have a good rest of your day. | :29:14. | :29:25.
Give her a wrap -- give a rapturous Invictus Games welcome to the | :29:26. | :29:32.
military wives. # My heart will build | :29:33. | :29:49.
a bridge of light Meehan Cowan Botha Botha Jaco Van | :29:50. | :30:12.
Gass Van Gass walk walk walk walk It must be a good feeling to be | :30:13. | :32:41.
here? We feel really happy and honoured to be part of an event | :32:42. | :32:46.
which inspires and motivates. We like to be advocators of both of | :32:47. | :32:50.
those. It has been amazing to watch some of the sporting action. Have | :32:51. | :32:57.
you caught bits and bobs of that? We caught some of it. The line-up is | :32:58. | :33:05.
decent. We have the Foo Fighters and all that sort of thing. It is always | :33:06. | :33:12.
interesting to be part of a variety line-up. You have parts of time to | :33:13. | :33:23.
be you. When an event is on this scale and covers so many | :33:24. | :33:28.
demographics, but to be on the same stage as the foo fighters is an | :33:29. | :33:34.
honour. It is fight to have Prince Harry ring you up and ask you to be | :33:35. | :33:40.
in this event. Harry is probably my favourite Royal. It is a sign of, it | :33:41. | :33:45.
is amazing he's put this together. It is a huge accomplishment. It is | :33:46. | :33:53.
great we could be part of that. It is amazing. I was saying before | :33:54. | :33:59.
that, Harry, he turned 30 recently. It is weird for me to think that, | :34:00. | :34:05.
because I am 22, he's been the youngest and to put something | :34:06. | :34:11.
together on this scale is great. See you soon. | :34:12. | :34:13.
And Greg will be back stage talking to as many performers as he can. | :34:14. | :34:24.
Only in the Invictus Games would you have Diversity, Rizzle Kicks and the | :34:25. | :34:30.
Military Wives. There'll be special ceremonies, where these will be | :34:31. | :34:37.
given to every single one who has participated in the Games. It is the | :34:38. | :34:45.
last two names of the poem, Invictus, the Master of my Stage and | :34:46. | :34:51.
I am the captain of my soul. And then that is repeated in Braille | :34:52. | :34:56.
around the outside. So that will be awarded to every single of the 410 | :34:57. | :35:03.
servicemen and women. Those ceremonies will be split into four. | :35:04. | :35:08.
Let's look at the first. This included from Afghanistan, | :35:09. | :35:12.
Australia, Italy and Canada. As they came forward, they were | :35:13. | :35:20.
given a tremendous reception. The Afghan team, headed by the | :35:21. | :35:24.
delegation, said, we fought alongside all the nations in the | :35:25. | :35:28.
Invictus Games. We believe we are fighting together for peace. Here | :35:29. | :35:34.
comes the Australian team. A large number of competitors. 36 of them. | :35:35. | :35:39.
They won 32 medals in total. 10 gold. Their captain lost both his | :35:40. | :35:46.
legs in an explosion of August, 2012. | :35:47. | :35:52.
Dennis Ramsey, the Australian javelin champion. He took part in | :35:53. | :35:58.
rugby, volleyball as well and was in Prince Harry's team for the | :35:59. | :36:05.
wheelchair match. Canada now and their captain - they have 11 | :36:06. | :36:10.
competitors. Won four medals in total. | :36:11. | :36:13.
And they have a lot of support. I am sure there'll be a bigger Canadian | :36:14. | :36:19.
team next time. They are very keen to host the Invictus Games. And | :36:20. | :36:25.
Italy had 13 competitors and won 11 medals, three of them gold. | :36:26. | :36:31.
And just of course to warn you that some of the performances tonight and | :36:32. | :36:37.
the medallion performances will contain some flashing imagery. We | :36:38. | :36:42.
will introduce you to the next act - they are The Vamps. | :36:43. | :36:50.
# Cecilia, you're breaking my heart You're shaking my confidence daily | :36:51. | :36:57.

# Uh-huh-uh eh-eh uh-huh-uh eh-eh | :39:50. | :40:07.
Thank you so much, London! Every single one of you has been very, | :40:08. | :40:17.
very lovely! Enjoy the rest of your day and we will see you very soon! | :40:18. | :40:25.
# Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees I'm begging you please to come home | :40:26. | :40:29.
# Uh-huh-uh eh-eh uh-huh-uh eh-eh | :40:30. | :40:38.
# Uh-huh-uh eh-eh Uh-huh-uh eh-eh eh-oh. # | :40:39. | :40:47.
Let me hear you scream loudly, London! | :40:48. | :40:53.
worn my high heels besides you. Have you caught much of it and caught the | :40:54. | :41:26.
sporting action? I have been overseas and even there people have | :41:27. | :41:30.
picked up on it. It is what we do best in Britain, get behind our | :41:31. | :41:33.
wounded soldiers and look out for them. It has been a fantastic job | :41:34. | :41:39.
done by all. As an ex-serviceman you must know that the people who are | :41:40. | :41:45.
performing here and doing the sporting activities think this is | :41:46. | :41:48.
the greatest thing they have been part of for a while? These are | :41:49. | :41:53.
incredible men and women and have been totally self--less. You don't | :41:54. | :41:57.
get paid well this the Army and you are doing it as part of a team to go | :41:58. | :42:03.
to someone else's country to bring peace and stability and then to lose | :42:04. | :42:08.
your life in that process or to lose a limb - it is an incredible | :42:09. | :42:13.
sacrifice. For that to be recognised here, in this way, in this positive | :42:14. | :42:19.
way is amazing. To get a devastating injury is horrible when you have | :42:20. | :42:22.
trained to do something for so long, so I suppose doing an event like the | :42:23. | :42:27.
Invictus Games would be a way to achieve again. What is remarkable | :42:28. | :42:32.
about soldiers when they have been injured is how instantly positive | :42:33. | :42:38.
they are about their lives and are not going to be damaged in a | :42:39. | :42:42.
negative way. They approach it as a positive and meet the challenge. | :42:43. | :42:47.
This is exactly that. And great to get the nod from Prince Harry? I am | :42:48. | :42:51.
thrilled to have been invited by him. He's done a fantastic job | :42:52. | :42:56.
arranging this. Thank you for being part of the Invictus Games. See you | :42:57. | :42:59.
out Along the Military Wives James Blunt | :43:00. | :43:06.
has the best credentials, he went to Kosovo, retired from the Army in | :43:07. | :43:11.
2002 and wrote You're Beautiful and started a new chapter of his life. | :43:12. | :43:15.
You will see him on stage shortly. Let's show you one of the | :43:16. | :43:20.
ceremonies, this starting with Denmark. | :43:21. | :43:38.
They got 27 medals. This is Estonia. They had six competitors here. Two | :43:39. | :43:48.
medals and Estonia one of the smallest teams. France, with 18 | :43:49. | :43:52.
competitors. They go home with 20 medals. Eight of them gold. | :43:53. | :44:00.
Georgia were competing as well. Germany you see there. They had 22 | :44:01. | :44:06.
competitors. They had six medals. One gold for them. | :44:07. | :44:13.
Georgia I mentioned as well, the Netherlands and New Zealand making | :44:14. | :44:23.
up this group too. Georgia coming forward too. They were all wounded | :44:24. | :44:28.
in the war of 2008. The Netherlands there. | :44:29. | :44:35.
14 medal, one gold for them. Finally in this group New Zealand. | :44:36. | :44:40.
They had 12 competitors here. Five medals. | :44:41. | :44:47.
Being presented with the medals by members of the British Armed Forces. | :44:48. | :44:51.
Just the most fabulous reception for all of them. It is a huge crowd. It | :44:52. | :45:00.
has come of the appreciate t competitors. | :45:01. | :45:02.
Congratulations. What an amazing feeling to be here, to be part of | :45:03. | :45:09.
the Games. How did it feel to win your medals the other day? I am very | :45:10. | :45:16.
happy to win the 100 and 1200 metres. It is a good experience for | :45:17. | :45:24.
me to run in this stadium and to see Prince Harry. I am very happy. Very, | :45:25. | :45:32.
very. And you are very fast. As the French would say, "Tres Vite! | :45:33. | :45:41.
" I broke my record. I am very happy. I think you are a machine. | :45:42. | :45:46.
That is what you are. And a great turnout for the French team and good | :45:47. | :45:53.
medals won as well. First of all, I would like to thank Prince Harry for | :45:54. | :45:59.
inviting the French team here. For the Invictus Games - it is amazing. | :46:00. | :46:09.
Thank you very much. The only word I can say is, thank you very much. | :46:10. | :46:14.
Congratulations to you as well. What a great few days you have had. I've | :46:15. | :46:19.
had four amazing days. I really enjoyed it. It was so inspirational | :46:20. | :46:24.
and a good atmosphere. And you said to me a minute ago that you have had | :46:25. | :46:29.
a tough few years and today kind of makes up for all of that? Sorry, | :46:30. | :46:34.
what did you say? You had a tough few days and today makes up for a | :46:35. | :46:40.
lot of that? Definitely, yes. Three years ago I got injured. At first, I | :46:41. | :46:47.
had troubles with it mentally. I broke down after a while. Then the | :46:48. | :46:53.
Invictus Games came across and asked me if I want to participate in it. | :46:54. | :46:58.
From then I started swimming. That was really a great thing for me and | :46:59. | :47:03.
my mental condition. Thank you so much for your time. Congratulations. | :47:04. | :47:09.
See you maybe next year. Thank you. I know how much the competitors have | :47:10. | :47:14.
enjoyed competing in the venues used for the London Olympics and | :47:15. | :47:20.
Paralympics. All the swimming happened in the Aquatics Centre. | :47:21. | :47:26.
Rick was ill stating what is important -- illustrating what is so | :47:27. | :47:30.
important, is the mental damage done by war as well as the physical | :47:31. | :47:35.
damage. We heard from this performer a few moments ago as he spoke to | :47:36. | :47:36.
Greg before he took to the stage. It is a massive honour to be uphill | :47:37. | :47:55.
bob on stage in front of you. I want to dedicate this song to a very | :47:56. | :47:59.
special person indeed who has arranged these Games. Prince Harry, | :48:00. | :48:01.
this song is for you. # She could see from my face | :48:02. | :48:19.
that I was flying high # And I don't think that | :48:20. | :49:45.
I'll see her again # But we shared a moment | :49:46. | :49:50.
that will last till the end # There must be an angel | :49:51. | :49:57.
with a smile on her face # When she thought up | :49:58. | :51:00.
that I should be with you # You light the spark | :51:01. | :51:10.
in my bonfire heart # Starts the spark | :51:11. | :52:24.
in our bonfire hearts # You light the spark | :52:25. | :52:41.
in my bonfire heart # Starts the spark | :52:42. | :53:33.
in our bonfire hearts # Starts the spark | :53:34. | :53:53.
in our bonfire hearts. # # You light the spark | :53:54. | :54:27.
in my bonfire heart # Starts the spark | :54:28. | :54:39.
in our bonfire hearts # You light the spark | :54:40. | :54:56.
in my bonfire heart # Starts the spark | :54:57. | :55:13.
in our bonfire hearts. # - did you get a personal call from | :55:14. | :02:01.
Harry? I did. We are kind of mates. He asked if I would be interested. | :02:02. | :02:08.
Here I am, in my trousers, ready to go on stage. Is that accidental? No, | :02:09. | :02:13.
it is fashion. It is great he asked you personally. Obviously as the | :02:14. | :02:21.
royal singer you sang at Will's and Kate's reception. I was one of them, | :02:22. | :02:26.
anyway. It was quite a long time ago now. I am very happy that he asked | :02:27. | :02:38.
and with the foo fights and -- Foo Fighters and Kaiser Chiefs. | :02:39. | :02:44.
Rehabilitation through sport. I know you believe strongly in sport doing | :02:45. | :02:49.
good things for you - doesn't it? I keep fit to be a good performer. I | :02:50. | :02:56.
suppose it kind of fits because this promotes the rehabilitation and | :02:57. | :02:59.
promotes the people who serve our country and, I think an amazing | :03:00. | :03:04.
thing and quite apt for me to be here. I promote healthiness and | :03:05. | :03:09.
sports. In terms of your touring schedule, are you in the UK for a | :03:10. | :03:14.
while now? What is going on? Finally finished tour Vy -- I have finally | :03:15. | :03:21.
finishing touring for my record. I am starting on my third one now. I | :03:22. | :03:25.
have been touring it around the world. I have come back and I get to | :03:26. | :03:31.
chill a little bit. I get little things every now and then, mostly it | :03:32. | :03:35.
is in the studio in London. I won't have to travel that much, which is | :03:36. | :03:40.
nice. I am relieved to be back and quite happy. Thank you for your time | :03:41. | :03:46.
today. Well done for being part of the Invictus Games. | :03:47. | :03:50.
We will see Ellie Goulding perform in a moment or two. She spoke about | :03:51. | :03:57.
being healthy, getting fit and taking part in sport. If you have | :03:58. | :04:00.
seen something and think, I would like to try that, look at the get | :04:01. | :04:05.
inspired section of the BBC website and you can see more clips of the | :04:06. | :04:12.
Invictus Games and find out more about behind the scenes. | :04:13. | :04:20.
Prince Harry wondered if he would have the nerve to body surf. And he | :04:21. | :04:30.
did. On the same card we have seen Bryan Adams and Ryan Adams. They are | :04:31. | :04:33.
no relation. Here's Ryan. # All my life been shaking | :04:34. | :04:54.
wanting something # Holding everything I have | :04:55. | :05:32.
like it was broken # Gimme something | :05:33. | :05:36.
gimme something good # Gimme something good | :05:37. | :05:43.
Give me something good # All my life been shaking | :05:44. | :05:45.

round and round # Gimme something good | :07:21. | :07:25.
gimme something good # Give me something good | :07:26. | :07:34.
give me something good We have both gone for Clare Balding | :07:35. | :08:13.
here today! We had the same hair and make-up lady! How has your day been | :08:14. | :08:23.
so far, Kaiser Chiefs? We have seen some of the Vamps. We have been on | :08:24. | :08:35.
America and Australia with them. A couple of us went to South Africa | :08:36. | :08:38.
with them. So we know them pretty well! They don't know us but we know | :08:39. | :08:44.
them! Have you had a chance to watch much of the Invictus Games over the | :08:45. | :08:48.
last few days? And if so, what have you watched? Only a bit because we | :08:49. | :08:55.
have been touring. You know, around the globe! So we just got back... I | :08:56. | :08:59.
just got back Friday night or Saturday morning. It was late, | :09:00. | :09:03.
whatever it was. But I watched a bit on TV. It was good, wasn't it? And | :09:04. | :09:09.
when you get a call from someone like Prince Harry, it is a pretty | :09:10. | :09:17.
immediate yes, isn't it? Not everybody gets invited to these | :09:18. | :09:21.
Games. To the closing ceremony. Glad to be here. Who got the call? | :09:22. | :09:32.
Because it wasn't me! I had a voice mail! It always goes through Peanut. | :09:33. | :09:39.
If you need us for a bar mitzvah or wedding, go to Peanut! Has been a | :09:40. | :09:44.
real life affirming, amazing few days for them. I have had a few | :09:45. | :09:54.
selfies with people. It is an honour and a privilege to be here and we | :09:55. | :09:59.
hope we don't let anyone down. You won't! You will be fine. Thank you, | :10:00. | :10:04.
gentlemen. Kaiser Chiefs could never let | :10:05. | :10:09.
anybody down. The third Medallion ceremony of the evening of the | :10:10. | :10:13.
closing ceremony was for the second biggest team competing at these | :10:14. | :10:17.
Invictus Games, team USA, and we will have a look at them coming | :10:18. | :10:21.
forwards to accept their medallions. These given to every single person | :10:22. | :10:25.
who competed in the Games, and also going home with 90 medals. That was | :10:26. | :10:32.
Kelly coming forward. She won gold in shot. And the 400 metres. And | :10:33. | :10:36.
actually helping present the medallions to team USA was Jill | :10:37. | :10:42.
Biden, wife of Joe Biden, the vice president, the second lady. But a | :10:43. | :10:49.
big team and they are happy. We will be talking to their captain later in | :10:50. | :10:54.
the programme. And it is the USA who inspired the Invictus Games because | :10:55. | :10:59.
the Warrior Games started in 2010 for the US officers and soldiers and | :11:00. | :11:07.
people of the Armed Forces, but it is -- and American-only event. | :11:08. | :11:21.
That is the equivalent in a wheelchair of what Michael Jackson | :11:22. | :11:26.
used to be - the old moon-walking. That is the equivalent. A happy USA | :11:27. | :11:33.
team. Prince Harry said he will be happy when he knows everybody is | :11:34. | :11:36.
safely home. Some will jet back tomorrow. We heard from her earlier | :11:37. | :11:42.
speaking to Greg, let's see her now performing, here's Ellie Goulding. | :11:43. | :11:46.
I need something from you guys now. Let's get the energy up! | :11:47. | :11:58.
# I take a deep breath every time I pass your door | :11:59. | :12:47.
# I know you're there but I can't see you any more | :12:48. | :12:51.
# And that's the reason you're in the dark | :12:52. | :12:55.
# I've been a stranger ever since we fell apart | :12:56. | :12:59.
# Am I dreaming? Will I ever find you now? | :13:00. | :13:49.
# I walk in circles but I'll never figure out | :13:50. | :13:53.
# I try to fight this but I know I'm not that strong | :13:54. | :14:00.
# We don't have to worry 'bout nothing | :14:01. | :16:18.
# Cos we got the fire and we're burning one hell of a something | :16:19. | :16:21.
# They gonna see us from outer space, outer space | :16:22. | :16:27.
# Like we're the stars of the human race | :16:28. | :16:31.
# We gonna let it burn burn burn burn | :16:32. | :16:59.
# We gonna let it burn burn burn burn | :17:00. | :17:05.
# Is everybody's on the floor acting crazy | :17:06. | :17:15.
# We gonna let it burn burn burn burn | :17:16. | :17:54.
# We gonna let it burn burn burn burn | :17:55. | :18:00.
# We gonna let it burn burn burn burn | :18:01. | :18:14.
# We gonna let it burn, burn burn, burn | :18:15. | :19:44.
Cheers, guys! Have a good one. Thanks for having us. | :19:45. | :20:48.
British Armed Forces and the captain of the USA team. We have another | :20:49. | :21:08.
medallion ceremony for all of the British athletes. First, a band who | :21:09. | :21:13.
played here at the closing ceremony of 2012, they are back in the park | :21:14. | :21:15.
tonight. It is the Kaiser Chiefs. # Know what ya doing | :21:16. | :21:42.
doing to me? Ahaa-ahaa-aaaa # Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby | :21:43. | :22:25.
Ahaa-ahaa-aaaa # Let the clocks be reset | :22:26. | :22:31.
And the pendulums held # There is nothing at all | :22:32. | :22:41.
Except the space in-between # Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya? | :22:42. | :22:45.
Ahaa-ahaa-aaaa # Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby | :22:46. | :23:03.
Ahaa-ahaa-ahaa-aaaa # Could it be, could it be | :23:04. | :23:16.
that you're joking with me? # And you don't really see | :23:17. | :23:21.
you with me-ee? # Could it be, could it be | :23:22. | :23:27.
that you're joking with me # And you don't really see | :23:28. | :23:30.
you with me? # Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby | :23:31. | :23:33.
Ahaa-ahaa-aaaa # Know what ya doing, doing to me? | :23:34. | :24:32.
's become white CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :24:33. | :25:02.
# Walking through town is quite scary | :25:03. | :25:12.
# He looked the wrong way at a policeman | :25:13. | :25:21.

# And, oh, my God I can't believe it | :32:09. | :32:12.
# I've never been this far away from home | :32:13. | :32:22.
# I've never been this far away from home. # | :32:23. | :32:33.
How long have we got? We've got two minutes! How do you think we can | :32:34. | :32:44.
fill two minutes with a bit of fun? Starting with this side, because | :32:45. | :32:55.
this side was better! We now have one minute 30. Do you think we could | :32:56. | :33:02.
manage some sort of Mexican wave? CHEERING | :33:03. | :33:09.
This side, do not let me down! Are you ready? Are you ready to put your | :33:10. | :33:21.
hands in the air? Are you ready? One, two, three... That was good! | :33:22. | :33:38.
That was real good! But it wasn't great! I'm going back that way. Are | :33:39. | :33:45.
you ready? Are you ready? CHEERING | :33:46. | :34:00.
Oh, yes. This is the stuff! Are you ready? Are you ready?! Ow! Amazing! | :34:01. | :34:24.
OK... Now I've got about 20 seconds. Here goes. | :34:25. | :34:30.
# Oh, my God I can't believe it | :34:31. | :34:33.
# I've never been this far away from home | :34:34. | :34:37.
# And, oh, my God I can't believe it | :34:38. | :34:39.
# I've never been this far away from home. # | :34:40. | :35:00.
Ladies and gentlemen of the Invictus Games! It's been brilliant, hasn't | :35:01. | :35:28.
it! Well done, everybody! Whoa-whoa! Whoa-whoa! Hey, hey, hey, | :35:29. | :35:39.
hey, hey! British and American team. Thank | :35:40. | :36:16.
you. Well done. We will discuss the Games - well the highlights with you | :36:17. | :36:23.
in a moment. First, there was one final medallion ceremony and it was | :36:24. | :36:27.
for the team of the British Armed Forces. | :36:28. | :36:29.
Everyone out there, I know a lot of you didn't get a chance to see the | :36:30. | :36:36.
Games. For that, I am sorry. That's your fault! However, you're here | :36:37. | :36:43.
tonight to show your support for Team Great Britain and every other | :36:44. | :36:49.
single serviceman and woman who has taken part in the past week. | :36:50. | :36:52.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Just before I do the | :36:53. | :36:59.
obvious, I am going to do this because I love Dave Grohl. | :37:00. | :37:08.
If you have a drink, put it on the floor, no spillages. We are going to | :37:09. | :37:12.
do a Mexican wave from the front to the back. Put your drinks down! One, | :37:13. | :37:17.
two, three... Go! Ladies and gentlemen you have been | :37:18. | :37:42.
asleep for most of this evening because you have been waiting for | :37:43. | :37:46.
the Foo Fighters. However, you are let off. Now is your chance! Please | :37:47. | :37:54.
welcome to this stage Team Great Britain. | :37:55. | :37:56.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :37:57. | :38:06.
A terrific introduction. 139 medals. 71 of them were gold. Captained by | :38:07. | :38:14.
Dave Henson. They were presented with their medals by surgeons, | :38:15. | :38:20.
therapists, clinicians, all of whom have played a significant role in | :38:21. | :38:26.
their rehabilitation. That is a really, really nice touch. It was | :38:27. | :38:31.
incredible to be, to have those guys there that played such a key part in | :38:32. | :38:36.
our recovery from start to finish here. Some of us are going to see | :38:37. | :38:43.
the pinnacle of our recovery, it is pretty fantastic. | :38:44. | :38:50.
Just a terrific statement of team spirit and everything that Prince | :38:51. | :38:54.
Harry could have dreamt that it would be. | :38:55. | :38:59.
There are just two things left to say, from all of us, every single | :39:00. | :39:07.
competitor - I want to hear three cheers for Prince Harry, because | :39:08. | :39:10.
without him none of this would have happened! So, hip-hiphooray. And | :39:11. | :39:22.
there's one more thing from all of us - without you guys here, our | :39:23. | :39:27.
friends and our families, we would be in pieces at home. With your | :39:28. | :39:35.
support, we are here, in front of you today. Thank you. | :39:36. | :39:39.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :39:40. | :39:49.
That was some speech! Was that just impromptu? Yes. That was impromptu. | :39:50. | :39:59.
The guys wanted me to say a little something, something. Someone gave | :40:00. | :40:06.
me a microphone and away we went. I like that we kick the ass out of | :40:07. | :40:13.
life. They have faced death in one shape or form. Here they are, | :40:14. | :40:18.
getting back into it. It is what they are doing - they are loving it. | :40:19. | :40:22.
And you'll have to pick up the pieces in the week ahead - it is his | :40:23. | :40:27.
birthday tomorrow, 30th birthday, like Prince Harry. There is bound to | :40:28. | :40:31.
be a coming down after this amazing high, It It has been incredible, | :40:32. | :40:36.
hasn't it? Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces and Dave has loved | :40:37. | :40:39.
this week. He is absolutely exhausted from seeing as much as he | :40:40. | :40:44.
can. He's been so proud and it has just been amazing. Have you seen a | :40:45. | :40:53.
real difference? Well, in terms of - he's so happy, so proud - I think it | :40:54. | :40:57.
has been great for all of the athletes in general. He's wanted to | :40:58. | :41:01.
make sure they are enjoying themselves as well. He's got | :41:02. | :41:06.
pleasure out of seeing them smiling and walking around everywhere. | :41:07. | :41:10.
You've had some lovely moments - your granddad was here as well, | :41:11. | :41:15.
wasn't he? He came down. Both sets of grandparents came down and it was | :41:16. | :41:20.
awesome. I knew my mum's mother and father were coming down. I didn't | :41:21. | :41:24.
know Harry was coming down. He did and he got to meet Prince Harry. It | :41:25. | :41:28.
was special for them. There were some tears around, all over the | :41:29. | :41:33.
place. And Chris, you have been to how many warrior games? The last two | :41:34. | :41:40.
years. How different is this - the rules are different. They are | :41:41. | :41:45.
competitive. The competitiveness is equal, but the ability at Warrior | :41:46. | :41:50.
Games is designed to keep it fresh for up and coming and new recovering | :41:51. | :41:57.
athletes or service members - women and men that are coming into sport. | :41:58. | :42:02.
So, if we had the open standard, where you have the same grade | :42:03. | :42:07.
athletes coming in every year, it wouldn't leave a window for | :42:08. | :42:11.
opportunity. So, once an athlete meets a National Standard in the | :42:12. | :42:16.
United States, they no longer participate in the Warrior Games. It | :42:17. | :42:21.
is more competitive and it is multinational and national as wesmt | :42:22. | :42:27.
will you be -- as well. Will you be feeding back - a standing start in | :42:28. | :42:33.
ninths, to put on this event is impressive. Presumably there'll be | :42:34. | :42:41.
things you will suggest? There are things you want to improve on. Great | :42:42. | :42:46.
Britain and especially Prince Harry put on quite a show. They set the | :42:47. | :42:53.
bar high for whoever will take it on next. | :42:54. | :42:58.
Next year is up for grabs. Dave, Chris talks about the standard of | :42:59. | :43:02.
competition, how high it is. You ran the 200 metres in 28 seconds. 28 | :43:03. | :43:10.
dead. That makes you the eighth fastest double amputee - double or | :43:11. | :43:15.
single, actually. You could make the British Paralympic team if you | :43:16. | :43:18.
wanted to. What are you thinking about that now? At the minute, my | :43:19. | :43:24.
wife and I we have a child on the way. We are happy about that. I have | :43:25. | :43:29.
some exciting opportunities at Imperial College and I am studying | :43:30. | :43:34.
and the medicine and the science and research is moving forward to | :43:35. | :43:38.
benefit the guys. I am quite happy to keep the same level of training, | :43:39. | :43:42.
which has been tough this year. My coach has been fantastic. We will | :43:43. | :43:47.
stay together and hopefully to the World Championships next year. And | :43:48. | :43:52.
in 12 months' time we can see if it is a realistic opportunity. I | :43:53. | :43:56.
thought I would go to Rio and the bar was set so high. I have been | :43:57. | :44:00.
fortunate enough to spend four or five days with him over the course | :44:01. | :44:04.
of the last year. He is a massive, massive inspiration to me. If I can | :44:05. | :44:08.
follow in his footsteps that is not a bad way to go. Not at all. It will | :44:09. | :44:13.
be a hugely exciting time for you on many levels. Thank you very much, | :44:14. | :44:16.
all of you, for coming to this studio. We will head backstage and | :44:17. | :44:22.
join Greg, who was trying to catch up with some of those who accepted | :44:23. | :44:25.
their medallions. First we will get to your | :44:26. | :44:32.
achievements this week in a second. You didn't know Alex would be here, | :44:33. | :44:37.
did you? How did you get roped into this? This was the biggest shock. I | :44:38. | :44:42.
have been in front of 25,000 people. This is one person - just | :44:43. | :44:49.
incredible. Explain your roll in JJ's of rehabilitation? I a am a | :44:50. | :44:54.
plastic surgeon who visits Headley Court once a month. JJ was | :44:55. | :44:59.
undergoing rehabilitation, hit a plateau and wanted to know what | :45:00. | :45:02.
could be done about his hands. What was he like when you first met him | :45:03. | :45:08.
and started the surgery, I suppose? He is almost exactly the way he is | :45:09. | :45:15.
now. He is most exceptional as a human being, relentlessly positive. | :45:16. | :45:20.
He is a joy to look after. That was one of the most wonderful moments of | :45:21. | :45:27.
that documentary, your honesty and I cannot remember the quote, but you | :45:28. | :45:31.
said about not being an average person because you have trained hard | :45:32. | :45:35.
with your skills, and to come to an event like this week and ExCel must | :45:36. | :45:39.
be a great moment for you? It is has been the greatest moment of my life. | :45:40. | :45:45.
I have done some pretty crazy stuff in my life, but it is unbelievable. | :45:46. | :45:50.
That sums it up, 25,000 people treating us like we are rock stars. | :45:51. | :45:55.
The other 129 people in our team and the other nations are rock stars - | :45:56. | :46:01.
they are all incredible people. I am some joker who turned up. Like I | :46:02. | :46:05.
say, it is amazing to be doing this again. You can do the modesty. From | :46:06. | :46:10.
everybody who has been following the Games this week you are all true | :46:11. | :46:14.
inspirations and heroes. We have enJoed it and we wish you all -- | :46:15. | :46:19.
enjoyed it and we wish you the best for the next Invictus Games? How can | :46:20. | :46:25.
this go away. If it is every two years, all around the world, I know | :46:26. | :46:28.
we look forward to doing it again and again and again. As a team, | :46:29. | :46:33.
we've had a craziest time. We've loved every second of it. The people | :46:34. | :46:37.
who turned up, shaking our hands and saying thank you. I turned around | :46:38. | :46:41.
and said, thank you, thank you for doing this. Why would that go away? | :46:42. | :46:47.
It has put a smile on one person's face, it is worth it. It seems to | :46:48. | :46:52.
put a smile on a lot of people's faces. Have a great rest of your | :46:53. | :46:54.
evening. JJ and two of his British team-mates | :46:55. | :47:05.
crossing the line together, hand in hand. There is one final act to come | :47:06. | :47:10.
and of course only one person to introduce them. | :47:11. | :47:24.
Good evening, London. Firstly, I would like to read a | :47:25. | :47:39.
short message from granny. At this closing ceremony of the | :47:40. | :47:43.
inaugural Invictus Games, Prince Philip and I send our health-felt | :47:44. | :47:48.
congratulations to the organisers and supporters of this competition. | :47:49. | :47:52.
Most importantly, to you, men and women of the Armed Forces, who have | :47:53. | :47:58.
overcome great adversity just to take part in these Games. | :47:59. | :48:02.
As I have followed the competition, over the past four day... | :48:03. | :48:19.
All of you have raised awareness of the challenges faced by wounded | :48:20. | :48:28.
veterans T success of these Games can be measured not by medals won, | :48:29. | :48:33.
but by the sense of purpose in your abilities you have gained. | :48:34. | :48:39.
I send my warmest good wishes and congratulations to you all. | :48:40. | :48:45.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :48:46. | :48:55.
I know a lot of you, most of you, can't wait for the Foo Fighters. | :48:56. | :49:03.
Bear with me! I have a long list of thank yous. | :49:04. | :49:09.
Thank you to all of you for being here this evening. | :49:10. | :49:18.
To all of those watching at home. And to everyone else who has been to | :49:19. | :49:23.
watch the Games over the past four days. | :49:24. | :49:29.
The support you have shown to all the competitors over these past four | :49:30. | :49:34.
days has been truly fantastic. It has helped create an experience that | :49:35. | :49:38.
they will never, ever forget. Give yourselves a round of applause. | :49:39. | :49:46.
None of this would have been possible in such a short space of | :49:47. | :49:51.
time without a huge amount of hard work from a great many people, as I | :49:52. | :49:57.
am sure you understand. Donors, sponsors, volunteers, officials, I | :49:58. | :50:01.
could go on, but I won't. It is impossible for me to name | :50:02. | :50:06.
everybody involved. I must mention Sir Keith Mills. | :50:07. | :50:12.
I am immensely grateful to him for embracing the vision and making this | :50:13. | :50:22.
concept a reality. Also to the Games board, who have guided the project | :50:23. | :50:27.
team as they worked at 100 miles per hour for the past seven months. | :50:28. | :50:39.
To Ed, Dominic and the rest of the project team, guys, I am really | :50:40. | :50:43.
sorry for all the work, but what a success. Thank you! | :50:44. | :50:53.
These Games have shown a spotlight on the character of servicemen and | :50:54. | :50:57.
women and their families, their Invictus spirit. On Wednesday | :50:58. | :51:01.
evening, I said the Games would mark the end of one chapter and the | :51:02. | :51:04.
beginning of a new one. All of the competitors have tonight | :51:05. | :51:09.
received a participation medal. For some, this is every bit as | :51:10. | :51:13.
significant as the gold medals are to the winners. These Games have | :51:14. | :51:19.
been about seeing guys sprinting for the finish line and then turning | :51:20. | :51:24.
around to count the last man in. They have been about team-mates, not | :51:25. | :51:28.
wanting to come second, but not wanting the other guys to either. | :51:29. | :51:33.
These Games have shown the very best of human spirit. | :51:34. | :51:35.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :51:36. | :51:49.
Many of us have friends who have paid the ultimate sacrifice and are | :51:50. | :51:53.
no longer with us this evening. We just want to take a moment to | :51:54. | :51:58.
remember them. And then, there are others, perhaps | :51:59. | :52:04.
watching at home, at an earlier stage of their recovery, or for whom | :52:05. | :52:08.
the challenges ahead seem unsurmountable. We knew these Games | :52:09. | :52:13.
would inspire people to overcome their challenges, whether physical | :52:14. | :52:16.
or mental and try something they thought was impossible. A lady | :52:17. | :52:21.
called Kara e-mailed us about the Games and what it meant to her. She | :52:22. | :52:27.
said, "I struggled for ten years with autoimmune problems. Now I feel | :52:28. | :52:30.
I can start to see myself as someone new. Up until my awareness of the | :52:31. | :52:35.
Invictus Games I was living in memories and mourning for what I had | :52:36. | :52:40.
lost when I got sick at the age of 24. In my mind, my life was over and | :52:41. | :52:45.
I was just waiting to be done. Because I felt I wasn't capable over | :52:46. | :52:51.
doing or living like I used to. I am starting to think now that my game | :52:52. | :52:54.
has just begun too." These last four days have shown how | :52:55. | :53:07.
effective sport is in recovery. It allows the mind and body to heal, | :53:08. | :53:12.
but it is a means to an end, not an end in itself. | :53:13. | :53:16.
So, what comes next? For many of these great people, what comes next | :53:17. | :53:27.
is jobs. And Foo Fighters! By definition, servicemen and women are | :53:28. | :53:32.
highly skilled, well trained and motivated people. Many of those | :53:33. | :53:35.
injured are young men and women, with their whole lives ahead of | :53:36. | :53:39.
them. For those no longer able to serve in the Armed Forces, the | :53:40. | :53:44.
future is often uncertain. However, we should be there, ready to support | :53:45. | :53:53.
them if or when they need it. For a few... Sorry, this is dragging | :53:54. | :54:05.
on! For a few, it is important, for a, this may mean long-term physical | :54:06. | :54:09.
and mental support. For the majority it means fulfilling employment, not | :54:10. | :54:12.
special treatment, but to be treated as they were before injury, with | :54:13. | :54:18.
respect, admiration and recognition for their considerable talents. | :54:19. | :54:27.
As the focus inevitably moves elsewhere, through the work of our | :54:28. | :54:33.
foundation, William and I will continue to draw attention to the | :54:34. | :54:37.
challenges facing all those leaving the Armed Forces, whether wounded or | :54:38. | :54:41.
not. And ensure that they can do so with purpose, with hope and with | :54:42. | :54:46.
confidence. They are a credit to our nation and to each nation here at | :54:47. | :54:50.
these Games. CHEERING AND | :54:51. | :55:00.
APPLAUSE I am almost done. I have Dave Grohl screaming at me | :55:01. | :55:04.
from behind! He's not... He's really old - come | :55:05. | :55:11.
on! Two years ago, Britain hosted the | :55:12. | :55:16.
most incredible Olympic and Paralympic Games. | :55:17. | :55:22.
Two months ago, we did it with the Commonwealth Games. | :55:23. | :55:27.
And now you have done it again with the first ever Invictus Games. | :55:28. | :55:34.
It is what we do and don't we do it well? | :55:35. | :55:41.
And to you guys, the competitors, wow, thank you for an awesome week. | :55:42. | :55:53.
And a personal joke to Team GB - oh, backs ter, you know I don't speak | :55:54. | :55:59.
span -- Baxter, you know I don't speak Spanish - you win. I hope | :56:00. | :56:02.
other cities in Britain and other countries will look at this | :56:03. | :56:05.
competition, what it has meant to those taking part and the | :56:06. | :56:08.
inspiration it has given to all those watching and take up the | :56:09. | :56:12.
challenge for the next Invictus Games. | :56:13. | :56:18.
Finally, I want to thank all the artists who have given up their time | :56:19. | :56:22.
to support the cause and come and entertain you. Thank you. | :56:23. | :56:25.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :56:26. | :56:41.

time and time again want to tell you about - first the | :00:55. | :09:17.
Jaguar Award, awarded to an athlete who have performed beyond all others | :09:18. | :09:23.
and this was made by Catherine Granger, the Olympic champion. The | :09:24. | :09:28.
winner tonight of the exceptional performance award is Joe Townsend of | :09:29. | :09:39.
the British Armed Forces. He is 26 years old. He stepped on a | :09:40. | :09:45.
tank mine in 2008, lost both his legs. Has been here winning four | :09:46. | :09:49.
gold medal ossen the opening day on the track. A bronze and silver on | :09:50. | :09:54.
Saturday in the hand cycling. An amazing performance from him and the | :09:55. | :09:59.
other special award was the Land Rover Award. This was for an athlete | :10:00. | :10:04.
who inspired other people, inspired those who were watching him as well. | :10:05. | :10:08.
This was made by the Rugby World Cup winner. | :10:09. | :10:14.
It gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of the | :10:15. | :10:21.
unconquerorable soul award. Give a massive round of applause for | :10:22. | :10:28.
Maurice Manuel. He is the Danish captain. He stepped | :10:29. | :10:34.
on an IED and had his leg amputated in 2011. He has taken part in 400 | :10:35. | :10:45.
metres and others. You can tell he's not a man who takes no for an | :10:46. | :10:50.
answer. That is what the last five days have been about. Prince Harry | :10:51. | :10:54.
summed it up. He said this is not just about the power of sport to | :10:55. | :10:59.
rehabilitate and restore, it is about what happens next. It is about | :11:00. | :11:05.
employers seeing talent, ability, seeing the competitors here and the | :11:06. | :11:11.
wider field of those and seeing them for what they can contribute. It is | :11:12. | :11:14.
not about anybody being in a game which is coming to an end. It is | :11:15. | :11:18.
about the beginning of a new game. I thought the whole documentary was | :11:19. | :11:22.
incredible. The start of the week where Dave Henson said, my life can | :11:23. | :11:25.
start again because of Invictus. I think that was one of the most | :11:26. | :11:31.
powerful thingsvy seen across the whole -- things I seen across the | :11:32. | :11:35.
coverage. Harry said, it is what we do and don't we do it well. | :11:36. | :11:43.
A big thank you to the competitors, to the artists and to Prince Harry, | :11:44. | :11:47.
whose brain child this was. And a great way to finish is to rejoin | :11:48. | :11:54.
what is happening on the main stage and the Foo Fighters. | :11:55. | :12:29.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Thank you! Ladies and gentlemen, I'm | :12:30. | :13:12.
going to sing a song... Yeah. I'm going to do a song that I hope you | :13:13. | :13:20.
will sing with me. If you know it. If you don't... Just seeing what the | :13:21. | :13:29.
guy next to you is singing! -- just saying. It's going to sound real | :13:30. | :13:35.
good! You got a medal, man. What did you win? Look at you! Ha -ha! | :13:36. | :13:40.
Congratulations! Thank you very much. This song, let | :13:41. | :14:07.
me tell you, I might sing this song to you but I'm going to sing this | :14:08. | :14:11.
song to all of the athletes that came out and played at this thing. | :14:12. | :14:17.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Because the reason why we are here | :14:18. | :14:22.
is for you. We haven't been here in a few years, you know. It's a while | :14:23. | :14:26.
since we've played in this country. So... We came here. I got a call | :14:27. | :14:36.
from a friend. My friend said, hey, is it OK if I give Prince Harry your | :14:37. | :14:46.
phone number? And I said, erm, OK... Everybody else has it! Why not | :14:47. | :14:53.
Prince Harry? He called me up and we talked a little bit. He told me | :14:54. | :15:00.
about what was happening here and we haven't been here in a long time and | :15:01. | :15:03.
it seemed like the perfect way to combat and play a bit for you, | :15:04. | :15:13.
because... -- to come back and play. Because we wanted to return for you. | :15:14. | :15:20.
So this song goes out to everybody that's here tonight, everybody that | :15:21. | :15:25.
was involved in the events. I'm very happy and honoured to be here. | :15:26. | :15:27.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE # I've got another confession | :15:28. | :15:39.
