on the brink of a return to league one and hot on their heels in the

therefore would be some opportunities that I probably

shouldn't have had at the age I was. I managed to take advantage of the

property market as it was growing, built a successful student business

which I sold and moved on to hotels. Since then, obviously I've built a

big training company and now Port Vale, a brand-new chapter. And what

an exciting new chapter it is! Automatic promotion looks to be on

the cards as well. It was only six months ago that you bought the club

for one point �25 million. Automatic promotion would be a good return.

dream start. From a financial point of view it doesn't make much

difference. From a status point of view, if you like, and about the

fans finally achieving a dream, that's something we couldn't have

wished for. And he has got to long-term plans. Within five years,

he wants to see Port Vale back in the championship. That's right and I

that night. The highlight of the night for me was the reception that

John Rudge got. It is quite moving. To see grown men with tears in their

eyes was something special and something I will not forget. He is

enthusiastic, passionate. He is not from this area. It is not what we

are used to so it's really nice. When you've been dragged down for so

long and then all of a sudden, you sit back and think okay, we've heard

it all before, but no, some -- so far so good. He seems to be on the

button. They are a forgiving bunch. They've needed to be. They've been

expert at that over the last few years. The key thing is about two --

about communication. We need to keep the fans informed about what we are

doing. We will keep the fans informed. That is all they ask for.

They ask for the players to give 100% on a Saturday or a Tuesday and

for the club to communicate with them. Would you say you are a new

breed of chairman? Somebody told me the other day I'm the youngest in

the football league which is unusual but that's a nice thing. I don't get

told those things very often any more. I think I'm not really a new

breed. What I bring is good commercial acumen to a job that

probably hasn't had that for a long time. So, the buzz is back in this

club. It's an exciting time to be a Port Vale fan.

It's quite refreshing to hear from a 37-year-old chairman in the football

league. His ability to communicate with the fans something that even

the more experienced German could learn from. It's great to hear

chairman communicating with the fans and making sure the community is

part of the football club. As long as fans are told and are aware of

what is happening and the boys on the match date go out and try their

best, that's all you want. Uses twitter. I know you are a massive

fan of social network sites. If you were a manager, you would not use

it, would you? The problem is, some of the lads who come into football,

they are not particularly the best educated in the world so they are

not going to be wordsmiths. They can trip themselves up and get

themselves into trouble. How many times if a player has a bad game,

you are leaving yourself open to slaughter and it brings a whole new

host of problems to the football club. Personally, I think you cannot

stop the players from using it. It is modern society, part of the world

and as long as the lads are told and educated that it is a tool which is

to be used sensibly... Each to their own. You cannot say to a player, a

grown man, you cannot use it. As long as they use it as a positive

tool, they'll be fine. A lot of football chairman, particularly in

our area, could learn a lot from communicating with the supporters.

Totally agree. That's one of the problems with fans in our area.

bunch of lads and want to get better. They have been a pleasure to

work with and they have got better and better and deserve it.

Saddlers travelled to Scunthorpe yesterday, looking for a vital three

points to take them into a play-off position. From Will Grigg, that is

the opportunity he has been looking for. There was late heartbreak.
