Tonight, Kenny Jacket shows why he's a perfect fit the Wolves and Stan | :00:00. | :00:08.
Collymore on who he thinks should be the next manager at Forest. Welcome | :00:09. | :00:10.
to Late Kick Off. Coming up tonight Leicester edging | :00:11. | :00:28.
closer to becoming the first team in any league to clinch promotion after | :00:29. | :00:31.
their victory over promotion rivals Burnley. Get the blue and white | :00:32. | :00:38.
ribbons on the trophy! It belongs to Leicester City! And the man who has | :00:39. | :00:42.
brought a light to the end of the tunnel at Wolves. If we can write | :00:43. | :00:46.
our own small piece of history to add to a fantastic tradition at that | :00:47. | :00:49.
club, that would be a fantastic achievement. | :00:50. | :00:57.
We'll be hearing from the Late Kick Off Supporters' Crew as we have our | :00:58. | :01:02.
Question Time for fans. If you want to be in our audience, email or | :01:03. | :01:06.
tweet us and we'll reserve you a place. With us tonight, perhaps the | :01:07. | :01:08.
finest goalkeeping`coach this country has produced. His number 1s | :01:09. | :01:11.
include Peter Schmeichel, Kasper Schmeichel and current England | :01:12. | :01:19.
keeper, Joe Hart. And he's also helping mastermind the resurgent | :01:20. | :01:26.
Rams at Derby County. Eric Steele. And Cannock's finest, the man who | :01:27. | :01:29.
knows Midlands footie better than most, Stan Collymore. You can't miss | :01:30. | :01:37.
them, but every week we have a mascot in the studio. So today, | :01:38. | :01:41.
please welcome Sammy the Stag from Mansfield! Tonight we're on a stag | :01:42. | :01:53.
do of sorts. But we start with the Midlands team whose performances | :01:54. | :01:56.
this season are a cut above the rest in the Championship, Leicester City. | :01:57. | :01:59.
But in League One, Wolverhampton Wanderers are sitting pretty at the | :02:00. | :02:04.
top after two horrendous seasons. Leading the pack at Wolves is Kenny | :02:05. | :02:07.
Jacket who invited the Late Kick Off cameras into the training ground | :02:08. | :02:13.
ahead of his side's game at MK Dons. One minute you're in the Premier | :02:14. | :02:16.
League, the Championshio, and the next, League One. Being a Wolves fan | :02:17. | :02:22.
hasn't been easy. We have a couple of dark seasons here at Wolves. But | :02:23. | :02:26.
there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And a motto you can't miss | :02:27. | :02:31.
for a club that can make the day, the week or even the year for its | :02:32. | :02:40.
fans. It is a one club town. You only see Wolverhampton shirts around | :02:41. | :02:43.
and that's fantastic. The potential and the tradition of the club is a | :02:44. | :02:47.
big one. A very recent Premier League history. Mick McCarthy took | :02:48. | :02:53.
them into the Premier League and kept them there for three years | :02:54. | :02:56.
which is a terrific achievement. We know it's there and that's a big | :02:57. | :03:00.
attraction for me. The potential is there. With that comes a high | :03:01. | :03:03.
expectation, you know that but you can't have it all ways. I'm happy to | :03:04. | :03:06.
accept the responsibility and there is terrific potential, it is not | :03:07. | :03:11.
something that frightens me. A fantastic club, first`class | :03:12. | :03:16.
facilities. Down on its knees after successive relegations, I think | :03:17. | :03:19.
coming out of the Premier League was a blow but nobody expected them to | :03:20. | :03:22.
then fall straight through to League One. It has been a tough period for | :03:23. | :03:27.
the supporters of the club in particular to see that happen over | :03:28. | :03:36.
the two years. I felt I needed to change things around, the connection | :03:37. | :03:38.
between the supporters and the players wasn't there. It was the | :03:39. | :03:45.
first thing that we did set about trying to change. And with average | :03:46. | :03:50.
crowds around 20,000, Kenny and his men knew exactly what they had to do | :03:51. | :03:54.
to keep the fans happy. Get out of League One. It's been our aim from | :03:55. | :03:59.
day one to get promoted. And I'm sure that they'll be, two thirds of | :04:00. | :04:02.
the division, when you come back from preseason, with the play`offs, | :04:03. | :04:05.
would say, we want to try and get promotion and get one of those three | :04:06. | :04:09.
places. We've been no different, from day one our aim has been to get | :04:10. | :04:11.
back into the Championship. Jacket was the fourth manager | :04:12. | :04:21.
appointed by Wolves in three years. With a risky import from Norway and | :04:22. | :04:24.
another from a lower division club having backfired, it was time to | :04:25. | :04:28.
turn to a man who knew a route map for success. Jacket had begun the | :04:29. | :04:31.
Swansea revolution and done sterling work at Millwall. He was the best | :04:32. | :04:39.
signing at Molineux. It was a Division 1 knew well, I knew if you | :04:40. | :04:43.
did not get your fitness and attitude right, names on the team | :04:44. | :04:46.
sheet and a Premier League history wouldn't be enough. We needed a | :04:47. | :04:49.
fresh group of players, that didn't carry that baggage of the double | :04:50. | :04:52.
relegation. As for tricks of the trade, Kenny Jacket doesn't exactly | :04:53. | :04:56.
try and blind you with science. It is hard work and doing what the fans | :04:57. | :05:00.
want you to do, keep the ball. He calls it creating a Wolves ethos. A | :05:01. | :05:06.
lot of people turn up at Wolves for the games both home and away and it | :05:07. | :05:10.
is our responsibility to put on a performance that gets our supporters | :05:11. | :05:13.
going. If we do take that responsibility and put good | :05:14. | :05:15.
performances on, it has to be player led. Then we know that we have a | :05:16. | :05:24.
fantastic club and a great crowd to back us. As long as we respect those | :05:25. | :05:28.
things, identify them and make sure we work hard at those basics. Some | :05:29. | :05:34.
of the club's top earners, dating back to the Premier League days of | :05:35. | :05:37.
three years ago, have gone. Whilst others like Jamie O'Hara have | :05:38. | :05:40.
learned to fall in with the Jacket style and philosophy or stay on the | :05:41. | :05:46.
sidelines. And it's worth it. He's a boss who is clearly getting results. | :05:47. | :05:50.
He is a man manager, he's very calm, he never loses his rag. He knows | :05:51. | :05:54.
what he wants, experienced now, he's a good manager to play for. Wolves | :05:55. | :06:01.
probably couldn't believe their luck that they managed to get someone of | :06:02. | :06:04.
Kenny's experience of the lower leagues, but also the ability to | :06:05. | :06:12.
perform in the Championship as well. You can't beat that winning feeling. | :06:13. | :06:15.
Obviously we're in the division lower, hopefully going up this time. | :06:16. | :06:18.
But like I say, winning is winning and we are certainly hoping to do | :06:19. | :06:22.
that again this season and that is definitely the aim. If he told me to | :06:23. | :06:26.
jump off this roof, I'd jump off this roof. I've got that much belief | :06:27. | :06:30.
in him and I trust him and what he says goes. So, the darkness behind | :06:31. | :06:37.
them, it's time for a brighter future for the Wolves. If we can | :06:38. | :06:46.
just write our own small piece of history to add to a fantastic | :06:47. | :06:49.
tradition that is at the club, that would be a fantastic achievement. | :06:50. | :07:02.
Eric, great to have you on the programme tonight. You started your | :07:03. | :07:06.
coaching career interestingly enough at Wolves, but you were with Kenny | :07:07. | :07:10.
at Watford and Manchester City. What is it about him that's got the best | :07:11. | :07:17.
out of what he's got at Wolves? He's a good coach, first and foremost, so | :07:18. | :07:21.
his work on the training ground Monday to Friday, that is so vital. | :07:22. | :07:24.
He puts aside the other duties because he knows where his | :07:25. | :07:27.
priorities are going to be. I thought what he did was perfect, he | :07:28. | :07:31.
moved the old brigade out, he knew he had to get youth, vitality into | :07:32. | :07:34.
that team to regenerate what is a fantastic club. He knows how to win, | :07:35. | :07:41.
he knows to get out of that division and no one would be more delighted | :07:42. | :07:44.
for the Wolves fans behind me here and Kenny if they get those wins | :07:45. | :07:48.
required. It would keep this man next to me happy. This was the | :07:49. | :07:51.
all`important goal that won it at MK Dons in front of 9000 away fans, | :07:52. | :07:56.
another Cannock boy. It is, delightful, we've got a rich history | :07:57. | :07:59.
of producing players, my little town. Here's the next one in Liam | :08:00. | :08:04.
McAlinden. I know his dad Jimmy very well, he will be very proud of him, | :08:05. | :08:08.
to score in front of 9000 Wolves fans. He's been brought through the | :08:09. | :08:11.
youth system which has got a good track record in history of producing | :08:12. | :08:14.
youth players but not giving them ahead in the youth team. From the | :08:15. | :08:20.
youth team into the first team. But Kenny Jacket will now and long may | :08:21. | :08:24.
it continue. Let's hear from two Wolves fans, Terry, you've been | :08:25. | :08:26.
there for 40 years almost, maybe even more. How happy are you with | :08:27. | :08:30.
what Kenny has done? Great team spirit, got the fans behind him. | :08:31. | :08:39.
Absolutely brilliant. We're in a good position to go up. David, three | :08:40. | :08:43.
wins away now. Yeah, so far, so good. It will be interesting to see | :08:44. | :08:46.
how the king of League One does next season for us. I think promotion is | :08:47. | :08:50.
on the cards now, it will be interesting into next season, so far | :08:51. | :08:53.
so good. Very happy. Thanks for now. So to the match of the weekend. | :08:54. | :08:59.
Potentially the Chamionship decider at Turf Moor. He has got one | :09:00. | :09:03.
defender to beat, has to curtail his run, he didn't get a good touch, | :09:04. | :09:07.
Nugent takes it on, left footed into the back of the net! David Nugent | :09:08. | :09:10.
loves a goal against Burnley, and he gets another. The Foxes are back | :09:11. | :09:13.
into their stride in the Championship! Burnley nil, Leicester | :09:14. | :09:24.
one. He launches it long, looks for Chris Wood, he has won this, he has | :09:25. | :09:27.
got two defenders. There it is, Chris Wood! It's a | :09:28. | :09:31.
beauty, they're on their feet in the dugout, they're on the feet on our | :09:32. | :09:35.
right hand side! Get the blue and white ribbons on the trophy, it | :09:36. | :09:40.
belongs to Leicester City. Burnley nil, Leicester two. | :09:41. | :09:47.
Ian Stringer of Radio Leicester getting a bit excited, and why not, | :09:48. | :09:52.
six points clear at the summit. Seven points more needed and they're | :09:53. | :09:55.
back in the Premier League. Is the title on its way as a result of that | :09:56. | :10:00.
one win? Virtually, you mentioned the stats above Burnley, but 15 | :10:01. | :10:04.
points above QPR. If you had asked Nigel Pearson about that at the | :10:05. | :10:07.
start of the season, he would have said you were crazy. They have | :10:08. | :10:10.
addressed the consistency issues. We just saw in that games a snapshot of | :10:11. | :10:13.
the difference between Leicester and Burnley. No Ings for Burnley, Sam | :10:14. | :10:17.
Vokes went off injured, Leicester have the luxury of being able to | :10:18. | :10:21.
bring on Chris Wood and score a cracker. I think that they will be | :10:22. | :10:25.
Championship winners and going to the Premier League, looking forward | :10:26. | :10:30.
to Old Trafford, Emirates. Don't get carried away! We're still chasing | :10:31. | :10:35.
you! As far as you're concerned, you're still within a shout with the | :10:36. | :10:39.
top ten? No, we would be delighted to finish where we are now. | :10:40. | :10:43.
Leicester deserve to be where they are. That league table doesn't lie | :10:44. | :10:47.
and credit to Nigel Pearson. Stan has made a good point, they've got | :10:48. | :10:50.
four strikers to call upon. The depth they've had, he's learned a | :10:51. | :10:53.
lot from last year, the campaign they had. He's kept the people | :10:54. | :10:56.
together and he has built it around a great goalkeeper and back four. | :10:57. | :11:00.
And those two midfield players, Drinkwater and James, they don't | :11:01. | :11:03.
miss games. Their team in terms of saying who's in there week in week | :11:04. | :11:06.
out, they've had the same eight, nine players. That consistency over | :11:07. | :11:10.
46 games is fantastic, they deserve to be where they are. Lack of | :11:11. | :11:14.
injuries has been key for them. This season, only a handful of | :11:15. | :11:17.
Premiership and Championship games have been postponed due to bad | :11:18. | :11:25.
weather. But in parts of the Midlands, nearly 60% of clubs | :11:26. | :11:28.
playing at grassroots level have seen their games called off because | :11:29. | :11:30.
of buckling pitches. We've been taking a look at a game of two | :11:31. | :11:34.
halves. The rich at the top, the poor at the bottom. | :11:35. | :11:36.
Unbelievably, football is no longer the top participant sport in this | :11:37. | :11:39.
country. More people nowadays prefer to run, swim or cycle. Player | :11:40. | :11:44.
numbers are in decline and in many places, facilities are shocking. | :11:45. | :11:49.
Junior football still has the ongoing issue of over`aggressive | :11:50. | :11:51.
parents and many still question the way we coach our kids. Make no | :11:52. | :11:57.
mistake, the grassroots game is in big trouble. Enjoy that game, boys? | :11:58. | :12:03.
Good, played well. Kenny Saunders is the manager of Walton FC which has | :12:04. | :12:07.
62 junior teams. He's launched a campaign to save grassroots | :12:08. | :12:11.
football. Grassroots football is in massive danger of folding within the | :12:12. | :12:15.
next five to ten years. There's massive problems out there. Right | :12:16. | :12:20.
from funding to grassroots coaching to parents, respect campaigns, | :12:21. | :12:22.
there's many issues out there at the moment. Although Woolton have | :12:23. | :12:28.
addressed the issue of pushy parents on the touchline, not everyone else | :12:29. | :12:33.
has. That's a yellow card, ref, card him, yellow card him, ref! He's an | :12:34. | :12:39.
animal, give him a yellow card. You're an animal, he deserves a | :12:40. | :12:45.
yellow card. Constantly shouting instruction is counter`protective. | :12:46. | :12:48.
We do want that noise and support, that's why young people want to be | :12:49. | :12:51.
there. A parent wouldn't shout at their child during a piano lesson, | :12:52. | :12:54.
white key, black key, so we're trying to work out a right level of | :12:55. | :13:01.
support for those young people. There's also an issue about the | :13:02. | :13:04.
standard of coaching but the FA insist that's all changing. What | :13:05. | :13:07.
we're doing now is providing the right level of coaching for the | :13:08. | :13:10.
right coach in the right environment to make sure the coaching they | :13:11. | :13:13.
receive is the right thing for that young player's development. Coaching | :13:14. | :13:18.
badges, it's extreme, the money they're charging for grassroots | :13:19. | :13:23.
volunteers. We're being priced out. We need to have better coaches, we | :13:24. | :13:26.
need more coaches, more qualified coaches. It's a ten`year journey and | :13:27. | :13:31.
I believe we're well on the way to delivering a world`class coaching | :13:32. | :13:34.
system and I feel within ten years we'll be seeing the fruits of that | :13:35. | :13:38.
labour. While the culture of the grassroots game could be changing, | :13:39. | :13:41.
there is still one huge cloud on the horizon, funding. With council | :13:42. | :13:44.
cutbacks and even Sport England cutting its financial support, | :13:45. | :13:46.
amateur clubs need to know who's going to help them survive. We've | :13:47. | :13:51.
got to get the Premier League, the football league, we've got to get | :13:52. | :13:54.
governments, councils, everyone who is responsible for grassroots | :13:55. | :13:56.
football and can improve grassroots football. We need them round the | :13:57. | :14:03.
table and we need them now. The numbers playing in grassroots | :14:04. | :14:05.
football and the funding both down. Almost epitomised by your story, | :14:06. | :14:08.
Stan, where you started kicking a ball about is now a supermarket. | :14:09. | :14:12.
Yeah, the three main places that I played football in Cannock, one's | :14:13. | :14:15.
now a supermarket, and the other two, one's a school field, two | :14:16. | :14:18.
thirds of that field, there's still a pitch on there but there's seven | :14:19. | :14:22.
or eight or nine pitches that are now houses. I went down to speak to | :14:23. | :14:27.
Greg Dyke, I was invited down by the Football Association to offer ideas. | :14:28. | :14:30.
I think there should be cheaper coaching badges. A levy on the | :14:31. | :14:33.
Premier league, football league to be able to cipher off some of the | :14:34. | :14:37.
extraordinary wealth that goes down to grassroots, but fundamentally | :14:38. | :14:39.
it's not good enough. It's a shambles at the moment. | :14:40. | :14:43.
A levy on the Premier League and the Football League, to be able to | :14:44. | :14:48.
siphon off some of the extreme wealth, so it goes down to the | :14:49. | :14:50.
grassroots. Fundamentally, it is not good | :14:51. | :14:52.
enough. It is a shambles. I know the Football Foundation Stan | :14:53. | :15:02.
has hit on a few of the problems there. I am from Wallsend Boys Club, | :15:03. | :15:05.
where the Beardsleys, the Carricks, the Shearers came from. We begged, | :15:06. | :15:08.
stole and borrowed. It has got to be very quickly reversed and you have | :15:09. | :15:11.
to get people like the Premier League, the FA, your major sponsors, | :15:12. | :15:14.
instead of putting money into players, divert it to the grass | :15:15. | :15:18.
roots. If we don't do it and reverse it... We wonder why there is no | :15:19. | :15:20.
English players coming through. Where do they practise? | :15:21. | :15:23.
Let us get a different point of view. Stef Knight is here, the | :15:24. | :15:26.
general Secretary of Birmingham's Festival League. When you started I | :15:27. | :15:29.
do not think you were a football fan, but it is a league which has | :15:30. | :15:32.
brought through the likes of Zat Knight and Paul Devlin, but you find | :15:33. | :15:36.
yourself very much at the sharp end, with regard to rising costs and poor | :15:37. | :15:38.
facilities? Yes, we have. I run four teams, but | :15:39. | :15:41.
the Festival League teams are also struggling with rising costs. 30% | :15:42. | :15:45.
for next season, possibly 50%. We cannot get the money in. Where are | :15:46. | :15:49.
we going to get the money to raise money to pay for the pitches? It is | :15:50. | :15:52.
ridiculous. I know Birmingham city Council | :15:53. | :15:55.
subsidise the pitches cost, but it is still a prohibitive cost for | :15:56. | :15:59.
teams such as yourself. Richard, you are at Yardley Warriors. Sorry, | :16:00. | :16:06.
Dynamos. You have had to go private. Because the council`run pitches are | :16:07. | :16:09.
not good enough for you? Yes, that is right. The vast | :16:10. | :16:12.
majority of my squad travel about ten miles across Birmingham to play | :16:13. | :16:15.
at the Pavilion at Moor Lane, just because it is an independently run, | :16:16. | :16:20.
private facility. They look after the pitches a bit better, so it is | :16:21. | :16:24.
very rare that we get a game called off due to a waterlogged pitch or | :16:25. | :16:29.
even a frozen pitch. There are nice changing and shower facilities there | :16:30. | :16:32.
and these are few and far between in Sunday morning and amateur football. | :16:33. | :16:36.
Keith, your teams play in Staffordshire. You have had to go | :16:37. | :16:41.
off on your own and raise funds of your own back. It is more of | :16:42. | :16:44.
pro`active approach? Yes, it is. We realised a while ago | :16:45. | :16:49.
that we needed a home for our teams. There are 43 teams, so it would be | :16:50. | :16:53.
difficult to find one base to cater for everyone. But we have got 13 | :16:54. | :16:59.
teams play at our own base. It cost is ?1.3 million. The Football | :17:00. | :17:01.
Foundation funded ?920,000 of that and the balance, we have to find | :17:02. | :17:05.
that ourselves over the course of ten years. | :17:06. | :17:07.
That is a great effort. And thank you very much for coming in, guys. | :17:08. | :17:10.
Back to the professional game and the McLaren machine at Derby County | :17:11. | :17:13.
is positively purring. 3`0 they won against Charlton. | :17:14. | :17:17.
Hendrick controls and turns. Bamford get in, gives it to Russell, he | :17:18. | :17:21.
takes a touch. Russell, left`footed, shoots and scores! Johnny Russell | :17:22. | :17:24.
took his time in the penalty area. We have played 18 minutes ` Derby | :17:25. | :17:29.
one, Charlton zero. Left`footed chip to the back post. | :17:30. | :17:35.
In goes Bamford, ball is dropping. Bamford has a chance to put it in | :17:36. | :17:39.
and has. Shocking defending from Charlton. A gift, if ever there was | :17:40. | :17:42.
one,. Six minutes to half time and Derby go 2`0 up. | :17:43. | :17:47.
An outswinger for Bryson to take. A flat one to the near post. Martin! | :17:48. | :17:51.
It's gone in! Chris Martin with the header at the near post and he | :17:52. | :17:54.
deserves that. His first goal for a couple of weeks. With six minutes to | :17:55. | :18:01.
play, it is game over. Derby County three, Charlton Athletic zero. | :18:02. | :18:10.
The perfect reaction after the late Ipswich defeat in midweek? Yes, we | :18:11. | :18:20.
knew it would be difficult, with the game is chairing the course of the | :18:21. | :18:24.
week. There are no easy games in this league. On the back of the | :18:25. | :18:35.
great win against our local rivals. Steve stresses every re`, it is | :18:36. | :18:41.
about the 17 and 18 players in the squad. It puts is a great position. | :18:42. | :18:48.
Next to a very worrying slide from Birmingham | :18:49. | :18:52.
things are looking good off the pitch as well. I know you have | :18:53. | :18:57.
announced losses, but there has been a lot of sheer issues of the pitch. | :18:58. | :19:06.
What has been the secret? You have all hit the ground running. I think | :19:07. | :19:17.
you have mentioned is one of the key factors that when Steve was | :19:18. | :19:23.
appointed, the other people heat brought with him knew exactly what | :19:24. | :19:27.
the club was about. Often, when a new manager is, they media do not | :19:28. | :19:33.
know very much about the club. I watched the club many times last | :19:34. | :19:36.
season. We had the feel for the club. We had to to work. Steve has | :19:37. | :19:45.
been left with the coaching and everything else has been left to the | :19:46. | :19:52.
other people. We had a great run through November of which catapulted | :19:53. | :19:57.
us up through the leak. The work that has been done during the week, | :19:58. | :20:00.
there is a great belief in the players and it is a collective job | :20:01. | :20:05.
between the work of the players and the management. They come to a very | :20:06. | :20:17.
worrying slide for Birmingham. They have got the worst home record in | :20:18. | :20:20.
Europe. They were four down when they began a fightback. | :20:21. | :20:24.
It is now no wins in 15 at St Andrews. It is worrying, Stan? Yes, | :20:25. | :20:32.
there has also been demonstrations about the Carson Yeung situation and | :20:33. | :20:37.
you can see all the empty seats. You get into the play`offs by being | :20:38. | :20:42.
strong home and making the odd victory away from home. But it is a | :20:43. | :20:50.
bit strange, Macheda came on and scored and you wonder why he has not | :20:51. | :20:54.
been starting games. But it will just take one victory and that could | :20:55. | :20:59.
change everything. Five points off the relegation zone. It is run on | :21:00. | :21:09.
teams. We need to pick up points. We simply have to get this victory at | :21:10. | :21:18.
home. As Stan said, why Macheda did not start. I have no idea, you would | :21:19. | :21:26.
have to ask the manager. What did you think at the start of the | :21:27. | :21:34.
season. I did not have a lot of expectation, I would have been | :21:35. | :21:37.
pretty happy if we had just stayed up. | :21:38. | :21:39.
No doubt who made all the headlines last week ` and for the wrong | :21:40. | :21:42.
reasons. Nottingham Forest sacked their manager and then lost at home | :21:43. | :21:45.
to Charlton, but a battling game at Portman Road produced a point | :21:46. | :21:47.
apiece. Encouraging signs? | :21:48. | :21:49.
Yes, my understanding is they are going to go back to Stuart Pearce. I | :21:50. | :21:57.
am worried from the ownership perspective. There are all sorts of | :21:58. | :22:04.
rumours flying about. There are these stories about players and | :22:05. | :22:07.
tactics being inflicted on the management. I think they should go | :22:08. | :22:16.
back to Stuart Pearce this time, a man imbued in Nottingham Forest. | :22:17. | :22:23.
They need to say, the is the money to spend in the summer and move | :22:24. | :22:27.
everything forward. But I am not a fan of or not getting involved with | :22:28. | :22:32.
playing matters. If that is the case, it needs to stop right now. | :22:33. | :22:41.
But they cannot bring some of them just for a handful of games. As Stan | :22:42. | :22:49.
said, if Stuart Pearce takes the job, he will know what it is all | :22:50. | :22:53.
about. It is a fantastic football club. There are three clubs just | :22:54. | :22:58.
below them who are going to be scrapping for that final play`off | :22:59. | :23:05.
place. But the one good thing is that we saw that the use players | :23:06. | :23:11.
were given a chance? Yes, we saw a few of them getting played. That is | :23:12. | :23:22.
the one good thing. But a massive injection of confidence is needed at | :23:23. | :23:27.
Nottingham Forest. Something like that could see them propelling | :23:28. | :23:33.
themselves into the play`offs. Into League One and it is looking | :23:34. | :23:35.
very promising, all of They are just two points off the | :23:36. | :23:41.
play`off places after their weekend win. | :23:42. | :23:43.
Ball in from low to Sawyer, steers it back to Westcarr. Westcarr turns | :23:44. | :23:48.
and scores himself in the corner! Westcarr's shot seemed to take the | :23:49. | :23:50.
Shrewsbury goalkeeper by surprise and it snuck in low to his right and | :23:51. | :23:53.
it is Walsall one, Shrewsbury zero. A gentle afternoon. Yes, I still | :23:54. | :24:10.
think we will make the play`offs, but it is going to be a hard job | :24:11. | :24:15.
because a few teams around us have games in hand. It B have the edge. | :24:16. | :24:22.
But we have had a good season, because we were favourites for | :24:23. | :24:30.
relegation. I think we need an out and out striker. Your top | :24:31. | :24:35.
goal`scorer from last season is coming back to haunt you. We have | :24:36. | :24:47.
got a couple, it would be great if we could get him for another season. | :24:48. | :24:54.
Girls have a problem for shoes Shrewsbury. They have been for the | :24:55. | :24:59.
past couple of seasons. But wilfully, we can pool off the great | :25:00. | :25:04.
escape. I think it will come down to the last game of the season against | :25:05. | :25:11.
Chillingham. If we could get one or two wins, look great it would take | :25:12. | :25:14.
us. Notts County's 2`0 win at the | :25:15. | :25:17.
weekend means they are out of the bottom four. A few weeks ago, they | :25:18. | :25:20.
were rock`bottom. What a turn around under Shaun Derry? As I said, | :25:21. | :25:27.
momentum is everything. Three wins on the bounce. The previous nine | :25:28. | :25:36.
games they had not got that. Shaun Derry has given the players | :25:37. | :25:39.
confidence to go out and express themselves. But look at the teams | :25:40. | :25:48.
below them. Still plenty of work left to do. | :25:49. | :25:51.
Coventry's win away, by the way, sees them clear of relegation | :25:52. | :25:54.
worries and actually, without the ten`point ban, they would be in the | :25:55. | :25:57.
play`off places. That Calum Wilson winner makes him the league's top | :25:58. | :26:04.
scorer. 21 league goals. Yes, I think everybody involved at | :26:05. | :26:11.
Coventry, it has been a traumatic season. Having to play at | :26:12. | :26:16.
Northampton. Consolidation was what this season was all about. They will | :26:17. | :26:21.
hope the off field structure is put into place to get them back to | :26:22. | :26:27.
Coventry as soon as possible. Playing every game away from home, | :26:28. | :26:30.
it has been remarkable how well they have done. All credit to the players | :26:31. | :26:35.
and management. In League Two, Burton's point at | :26:36. | :26:38.
York keeps them in the mix for a play`off place. And well done to | :26:39. | :26:41.
Cheltenham for their win at Hartlepool. Jermaine McGlashan with | :26:42. | :26:42.
the only goal of the game. Curled into the back post towards | :26:43. | :26:48.
Jermaine McGlashan and Jermaine McGlashan has turned it in! | :26:49. | :26:51.
Hartlepool zero. Cheltenham one. Burton still in the hunt, but top | :26:52. | :27:09.
three out of the question? Yes, you do wonder. They did not score enough | :27:10. | :27:22.
goals. I think if they stay in the play`offs, it will represent | :27:23. | :27:23.
success. Gary Rowett has done a great job | :27:24. | :27:37.
there. If he could just get someone who would guarantee him seven or | :27:38. | :27:43.
eight goals in the final weeks of the season, they could be the team | :27:44. | :27:45.
to watch. Our mascot this week is Sammy the | :27:46. | :27:48.
Stag. Pleased after the weekend, Sammy? He is a man or woman of few | :27:49. | :27:50.
words. Mansfield won courtesy of Adam | :27:51. | :27:53.
Murray's early strike. One defeat in eight. | :27:54. | :27:57.
And well done to Port Vale's after their draw at Stevenage. | :27:58. | :28:05.
Mansfield are getting a bit of momentum momentum. | :28:06. | :28:13.
They still have got a chance. We have got a couple of games in hand | :28:14. | :28:22.
above teams in front of them. I talked Barry Fry to yesterday. Great | :28:23. | :28:30.
day for them yesterday. Getting a trophy. I think he is still Barry | :28:31. | :28:38.
Fry celebrating, ! So, that is it for another Late Kick | :28:39. | :28:40.
Off. My thanks to Eric and Stan. Thanks | :28:41. | :28:43.
also to our Supporters' Crew. Sammy the Stag, please do the | :28:44. | :28:45.
honours. You can see how to get hold of us? | :28:46. | :28:47.
@lkomids or on facebook.com/lkomids. That is for telling us if you would | :28:48. | :28:56.
like to join us in the studio, too. We will be back at the same time | :28:57. | :28:58.
next Monday. Goodnight. | :28:59. | :29:01. |
