football. Trouble has been doing but do Scunthorpe have the mettle

to survive the relegation fight. And we had been tangoed to - in the

tonight, another Wednesday-ite - the club's old boss Brian Laws and

the still relatively new manager of Barnsley, Keith Hill, still all

smiles from a welcome win at the weekend.

And there will be plenty for them to discuss after the last seven

days on our patch. Basically, if you've been away - it's all

happened since we were last with you - what a week it was!

A week's a long time in politics, but on Late Kick Off it's a

lifetime. Manager sacked, others appointed and others under a cloud.

This Neil Collins goal might have been the one that did for

Huddersfield's boss Lee Clark. Despite the Terriers still lying in

fourth and only 4 points behind with 16 games still to play, he got

his marching orders on Wednesday lunchtime. Cue speculation of who

might replace him. Many of the same names that were linked with the

vacant Elland Road hot seat have been mentioned.

But one definitely ruled himself out of the reckoning. Neil Warnock

spent Friday in Monte Carlo having lunch with Mssrs Bates and Harvey.

The result on Saturday, the announcement that the man with

managerial or playing connections to Scarborough, Sheffield United,

Huddersfield, Rotherham, Scunthorpe, Barnsley and the mighty York City -

Warnock was named Leeds boss. So what have Leeds United got

themselves. Well, undoubtedly a man who knows how to get teams promoted

from the Championship to the big league. But getting Leeds promotion

will be as big a task as any of those previous achievements. Ken

Bates is notoriously canny with his cash. Though fans at Elland Road on

Saturday seemed genuinely pleased to see his appointment. A good

appointment, he is a good manager with a proven track record.

words of Neil Warnock, anything could happen. What do you think

about his appointment? I think it is a good appointment. He has a

tried-and-tested history. There should be some antics going on,

Neil is a strong character. We have a great opportunity of getting into

the play-offs. The general feeling we get is that this could work. Ken

Bates and Neil Warnock. I think Neil thrives on the jousting. We

have seen him with the chairman at QPR. Whenever we has -- whenever we

had seen him, he handles himself well and I think you will work. He

knows how to work the supporters as well and will get them on site.

Further west, at Huddersfield, we had their new manager. Only five

days ago we got the news about Lady Clark. Do you understand why he has

gone now? It is a major shock. He was three years into developing the

team. There are no great position in the league. Maybe the chairman

got nervous, you do not know. He has appointed Simon Grayson. He has

got teams promoted into the championship. Three defeats in his

last 55 games, howdy get the chop when that happens? It just shows

you the way the ball is at the moment. If you are getting the sack

after losing on a three-day games, pressure is on. However, it did

shock everyone but, the chairman has his reasons. He has appointed

very well in Simon Grayson so I am sure it will come out in the wash

eventually. We're not privy to too much information. He did say last

season, he would not accept anything less than automatic

promotion, do you think he was thinking they are not on the pace?

They are on the pace. They are in a good position. This is now the real

business end of the season. It takes a strong manager and strong

players to push a team over the line. So that is probably a little

bit of nerves with the chairman, players and supporters but it is

still a strange decision. Have they got the right man now? The chairman

has obviously done their best with Simon and believes he has the right

man for the job. The supporters will get behind him. They have 16

games left. He knows that Sheffield United will be going really well

and they need to catch them up. 16 games to go - to spark Huddersfield

again, probably this is the time. Is it extra pressure on Simon going

from Leeds who had assumed? I do not think so. -- to Huddersfield.

There will be appreciation from the supporters. They know what good

work he has done. I think he will be OK. Two weeks into work after

all that happening in a week - how much can happen in a year? Well,

this time 12 months ago, Scunthorpe were in a battle to avoid

relegation from the Championship. Few of us thought they'd be in a

similar struggling position a division down this year. But a

combination of injuries and poor form and weather has meant another

scrap for survival. Rob Jones spent the week with Alan Knill and his

men of Iron. There has rarely been a dull moment

for Scunthorpe United in recent seasons. Twice the. Four promotion

has been followed by a sharp return to League One. There is something

of a winter of discontent. They iron need to show some steel and

fast. Manager Alan Knill meets -- did a fine job but Bury before

moving to Lincolnshire. He has had to sell a number of key players. It

has been a trying 11 months. It has been difficult. You go three years,

used to winning. It hasn't been like that here. I wanted a

challenge. I had been three years there and it had gone really well.

The players were really good players and the club was in a

decent position. We wanted, me and my staff, wanted something

different and we have got that. It has been difficult because

obviously you want to walk again and have success right away but we

have not been able to do that. But we all believe we can. In a

fortnight which has seen to manager sacked and the pressure rise on

Gary Megson, Scunthorpe players are calling for patience and back their

boss. The fans want the team to do as well as the can. It has not

happened this year. It has been hard for the boss. He has had to

pretend new players, all the best players went last year. -- bling in

new players. We won the fans to stick with the players and their

boss. We feel he can get us into the championship. His departure

from Barry and achievement from Shaker fans have hardens them. The

Scunthorpe project is not easy but he insists he would do it his way.

You have to stick to your guns and keep going. Understand whether you

are top of their league or anywhere in the league, you will never be

popular. There is always someone who has something to say. Just get

on with it. Bayern had been out of action 40 weeks before Tuesday's

win over Rochdale. Perhaps a blessing in disguise. This was the

bed to halt the run of one when in 13 games. Saturday's fresher look

like a job before the substitute arrived at the back post moments

The whole team just lifted in the second half. I have to say that you

think, three months ago, yes it is a loss but there is a bit a belief

championship. They carry themselves well and it rubs off on the other

characters, I am not talking about the chairman or manager Gary

medicine. I have been sent to Wolverhampton to the warmth of pale

Paul Gregory. Why Sheffield Wednesday, a club which is not

local to you? I was working over there are few years ago and I have

been averse since. At devoted fan he may be, but he is also a bit of

an idiot. On a cold winter day, what forces and to sure of his

wonderful physique? I remember I went to a cup-tie and my father-in-

law was complaining about how cold it was, so I decided to take off my

top. It has taken years of hard work and preparation and a pub to

give Paul the figure he has today, but what do his friends make of his

cult status? It means he is on camera a lot of the time. He is a

mass of character and a great friend. We have a really good laugh.

This is again -- this is a guy who goes to all their games. He is

always there in gets the crowd going all the time. He is the
