Hello, good evening. Welcome to Alexandra Palace and the 2016

:00:34.:00:41.

Dafabet Masters. Two men already through to the quarterfinals, the

:00:42.:00:45.

current world champion, Stuart Bingham and Mark Allen. Allen, the

:00:46.:00:49.

Northern Irishman and knocking out the current masters champion Shaun

:00:50.:00:52.

Murphy. And two other players looking to join them in the

:00:53.:01:00.

quarterfinals met earlier today. Stephen Maguire taking Ding Junhui.

:01:01.:01:05.

Maguire taking on the number five seed Trump.

:01:06.:01:15.

And Maguire won a quality opening frame as three of the first four

:01:16.:01:21.

frames were won on the black with Trump getting the better of the

:01:22.:01:25.

early exchanging racing to a 4-1 lead with some explosive

:01:26.:01:37.

shot-making. Have a look at that shot on the yellow.

:01:38.:01:43.

APPLAUSE Came Maguire with a match high break

:01:44.:01:49.

with 92 in frame 5 and breaks of 48 and 56 in frame 8. It levelled the

:01:50.:01:51.

match at four a piece. As the match lost its sparkle,

:01:52.:02:09.

Maguire was the first to crack. This mistake proving costly as Judd

:02:10.:02:19.

punished him. And lady luck was smiling on Judd.

:02:20.:02:29.

After another bout of safety, Maguire was tempted by this long red

:02:30.:02:36.

and this misled Trump in for the kill. After three hours and 20

:02:37.:02:40.

minutes, it was game, set and match to the Englishman. Judd Trump

:02:41.:02:46.

winning by six frames to four It's always hard in front with such a big

:02:47.:02:50.

lead. You opponent has nothing to lose really. You're kind of looking

:02:51.:02:55.

back and waiting for it to come back to you rather than looking ahead.

:02:56.:03:01.

For me it was important when it got to 4-4 to refocus and take my

:03:02.:03:05.

chances and that's what I did in the end. This is such a big tournament

:03:06.:03:09.

as well. So close to home that it's very important I try to do well

:03:10.:03:13.

here. It will give me a lot of confidence for the rest of the

:03:14.:03:16.

season. Congratulations to you Judd Trump. He will now meet either

:03:17.:03:19.

current UK champion Neil Robertson or Marco Fu in a quarterfinal match

:03:20.:03:26.

on Friday. Now, then to our featured match and we see Barry Hawkins, 2013

:03:27.:03:32.

runner-up taking on Joe Perry, a man who's only won once here at

:03:33.:03:39.

Alexandra Palace in the masters against Ding Junhui last year. The

:03:40.:03:53.

gentleman, he's one of a few that's peeking in later in the year. He's

:03:54.:03:57.

been top of the game for many years. He's one of the boys, has a laugh.

:03:58.:04:04.

Great player, great cuist, really nice timer of the ball. I'm sure

:04:05.:04:10.

bigger things are coming for him. A very consistent player for him.

:04:11.:04:16.

Doesn't fear anybody. He's in the top 16 and deserves to be there. He

:04:17.:04:22.

seems to be playing better the older he gets and I think he's still got a

:04:23.:04:30.

few more tournaments for him. Works hard and keeps himself fit. Really

:04:31.:04:35.

lovely lad. I'm sure there's more muck says for him. No, Joe is all

:04:36.:04:43.

right. He's another one, loves a banter, have a giggle, and, yeah, we

:04:44.:04:48.

have a good chat. He moans all the time! Moaning. All the time... But

:04:49.:05:00.

he's fun to be around! That's what the players think of Joe Perry and

:05:01.:05:05.

he leads the head-to-head 5-2 but Hawkins won their last meeting 4-2

:05:06.:05:10.

in the 2014 European Tour quarterfinal in Lisbon. Hawkins won

:05:11.:05:14.

the first Graeme, thanks to breaks of 59-34. We join it in frame 12.

:05:15.:05:17.

Perry with a break at 49. Has gone a bit heavy after that

:05:18.:05:34.

cushion. You thought he was going to play for it in the corner, but the

:05:35.:05:39.

way he hit it looked as though he was trying to play it for the same

:05:40.:05:43.

pocket as the pink and now he's tweaked in between. He's only

:05:44.:05:48.

looking for a red in the colour. So you know he's going to take the red

:05:49.:05:55.

on but into a blind pocket. Missble. Oh, missed it by a long way. Now,

:05:56.:06:05.

has he a bit of luck? No he hasn't. And what an opportunity he missed

:06:06.:06:08.

there. Just misjudged the position on shot on pink to the last red. And

:06:09.:06:12.

misjudged that pot badly. APPLAUSE

:06:13.:06:35.

Well, if it wasn't for the pink being close to the left-hand side

:06:36.:06:40.

cushion, Ken, I'd say we got a new favourite for this frame.

:06:41.:06:46.

Absolutely. Points that Joe Perry has accumulated is soon going to be

:06:47.:06:50.

disappear. The only good thing for Barry Hawkins is he's a left-hander.

:06:51.:06:55.

The pink on that side of the table isn't really going to be too much of

:06:56.:06:59.

a problem. The key here is the position from brown to blue. If he

:07:00.:07:03.

can get absolutely inner fect on the blue, you say being left-handed he

:07:04.:07:07.

can drop behind the pink, the black is going to be available to the

:07:08.:07:12.

centre pocket. Just makes that a bit easier. But this is the key to the

:07:13.:07:17.

frame for me. Got to get good position on the blue. Yeah, he's got

:07:18.:07:21.

to get a position where it's almost straight on the blue, but he's got

:07:22.:07:25.

to be low on the blue which means he's got to be closer to the balk

:07:26.:07:34.

line. Almost straight on the blue, so get behind the pink with the cue

:07:35.:07:41.

ball. It's not the best. This could go wrong. He's got the judge this

:07:42.:07:45.

perfectly. Got to get as close to the pink as possible with the cue

:07:46.:07:47.

ball. No, that was the problem! Really had

:07:48.:08:00.

to get close to that blue one. That's poor from Barry Hawkins at

:08:01.:08:04.

this level. There's so much room for error there, and Joe Perry looking

:08:05.:08:07.

on would be absolutely delighted. Yeah, I grea. If you're going to

:08:08.:08:11.

play that shot, you got to get to play to get off the pink on two

:08:12.:08:15.

cushions. You can't play it off one. As you say there was plenty of room

:08:16.:08:22.

around it. But as you say - one man's mishap is another man's

:08:23.:08:26.

fortune because Joe Perry is still pleased to have a chance in this

:08:27.:08:35.

frame. Is he taking this on?! Is he taking this on?! Oh, what a shot!

:08:36.:08:38.

APPLAUSE What a shot! Hold the front page, he

:08:39.:08:44.

only needs the black! Joe Perry must have thought he had a

:08:45.:08:59.

chance there, but Barry Hawkins decided to play the pink on the

:09:00.:09:03.

presumption that if it didn't go in, hi might go safe, but it went in and

:09:04.:09:08.

he leads 2-0. What a cracking pink that was from Hawkins, but Joe won

:09:09.:09:13.

the next two frames to make it 2-2 to go into the mid-session interval

:09:14.:09:16.

and after that interval this happened - don't really know if

:09:17.:09:20.

Hawkins was feeling a little fer vous with the match finally poised

:09:21.:09:23.

but he made this little error with the spider very early on in frame 5,

:09:24.:09:28.

but thankfully could still see the funny side and Joe all smiles too.

:09:29.:09:35.

Weeping it with Perry on a break at 7. Foul. Oh! 7. Joe Perry. Well. 7

:09:36.:09:44.

Barry Hawkins. Our referee there spotted the foul. Must have been

:09:45.:09:48.

something with the finger touching the red or something. Let's have a

:09:49.:09:50.

look. Yes, the red near the pink! Where will this black go where it's

:09:51.:10:40.

respoted. I don't know whether the black spot is available. If it is,

:10:41.:10:43.

then no problem but he wouldn't really want to get the black going

:10:44.:10:47.

up on the green spot which looks the highest available.

:10:48.:10:56.

Now, where does the black go? He'd love it to go in its spot. Eight. It

:10:57.:11:06.

did quite comfortably. So good chance this now.

:11:07.:11:16.

Well, decided not to roll the red in, decided to play the black. Don't

:11:17.:11:33.

see any value now in trying to play for a loose red. Unless he's got the

:11:34.:11:41.

angle on the yellow. He obviously thinks he has, but needs a deep

:11:42.:11:50.

screw this. He's overdone it. OK. He's on this red to the corner. Not

:11:51.:11:59.

sure the red he's already played on, but he'll be happy to play it. I

:12:00.:12:03.

think it was one of these shots, wasn't it? Overhit it for the red

:12:04.:12:08.

into the bottom left-hand corner pocket. He's had this red. But can

:12:09.:12:17.

get nicely on the brack here if he drop it is red in, but always a bit

:12:18.:12:27.

trickier with the extension. . 12. Have to play for one of the reds

:12:28.:12:31.

near the top cushion here because he's just gone a bit too high on the

:12:32.:12:33.

black. Got a nice angle 1. Back up for the

:12:34.:13:10.

black. 20. If he plays one little canon from the black in to the red.

:13:11.:13:14.

Just the middle red, the red directly above the black. He's taken

:13:15.:13:20.

the loose one. But he had a perfect angle there to play. It would have

:13:21.:13:26.

brought more reds into play. This red goes to the corner because

:13:27.:14:25.

the pink - it's on the pink spot. There's only a few reds and colours

:14:26.:14:31.

away from victory in this frame. And a good performance, Ken, having lost

:14:32.:14:37.

the first two. Yes, particularly the manner in which he lost the second

:14:38.:14:46.

frame. He steadied the ship, and looks in good form now. A lot more

:14:47.:14:53.

confident going around the table. He's had his chances, Barry Hawkins.

:14:54.:14:59.

A couple of loose safety shots and couple of misses, in particularly a

:15:00.:15:04.

miss here in this frame well Joe failed the red. 49.

:15:05.:15:24.

Yeah, nice spot. So 67 left. So one red and a colour.

:15:25.:15:40.

Just having a quick look at the score board, just the blue almost

:15:41.:15:58.

makes there another frame. That will do.

:15:59.:16:04.

He looks a different player now, doesn't he, after those forced

:16:05.:16:23.

couple of frames. Picked up the pace a little bit. Yes, you know what

:16:24.:16:28.

it's like, Ken, sometimes the occasion can just get the better of

:16:29.:16:32.

you, and - as we say, you don't really settle until you get that

:16:33.:16:36.

first frame on the board an he must have been delighted to go in the

:16:37.:16:39.

mid-session interval all square, after losing the first two frames,

:16:40.:16:43.

and he's come out a lot more positive. Having said that, he's

:16:44.:16:45.

been gifted this opportunity. But he's taken it well. Every

:16:46.:16:52.

credit, Joe. 76. 77.

:16:53.:17:10.

APPLAUSE He tried to stop the red. It's on

:17:11.:17:15.

the right-hand cushion. Just get behind it. Try to keep the brake on.

:17:16.:17:27.

Trying to get behind it, but he... 84. Oh! 84. Delighted to put another

:17:28.:17:40.

frame on the board. Now, he lead it is world number 8 by 3-2. The world

:17:41.:17:45.

number 10 sneaks in front for the first time but it didn't last long

:17:46.:17:48.

with Barry taking the next frame 3-3. Good match this. Into frame 7.

:17:49.:17:52.

Hawkins to play. Back to John and Ken.

:17:53.:18:06.

So decent break-off from Barry, but he has left this pot on. But what

:18:07.:18:13.

makes this pot dangerous is against normally you see them taking this on

:18:14.:18:17.

is that red just below the black in between the black and the top

:18:18.:18:21.

cushion. You think it's almost impossible to play the pot and avoid

:18:22.:18:26.

the kiss on that red. But what's the alternative?

:18:27.:18:33.

That's the shot you're talking about, John, but as you said, that

:18:34.:18:40.

red maybe just be enough around the back of it, but he has to be so

:18:41.:18:43.

precise. No, what has he left? Well, that would have been a bonus

:18:44.:19:01.

if that red dropped in the middle. Now, Barry is just eyeing up his

:19:02.:19:05.

options here. Should he pot this red into the bottom right-hand corner

:19:06.:19:08.

pocket? Can he get on the black into the left-hand corner?

:19:09.:19:17.

There's certainly enough room, but just got to make sure he's low on

:19:18.:19:26.

the black. 1. Looks OK. Of course, he's always got the red as insurance

:19:27.:19:33.

over the right. Just may have to use a little bit of the right-hand, but

:19:34.:19:37.

just hold a bit of red just above it. That was nicely judged. Very

:19:38.:19:39.

nicely judged. 8. He's got another two or three reds

:19:40.:19:54.

in the potable position from that shot alone.

:19:55.:20:03.

The beauty of this opportunity - you can play for the reds that are all

:20:04.:20:09.

in a cluster just above the black with the knowledge that if you just

:20:10.:20:15.

slightly out of position, you always got the red that's very close to the

:20:16.:20:20.

middle. So you have always got that little bit of insurance. But at the

:20:21.:20:23.

moment, two reds, two blacks. 17. Yeah. OK. It's early doors, but

:20:24.:20:41.

just depend on the next couple of shots from Barry Hawkins. It will

:20:42.:20:45.

give us an indication where he's got a very special break on his mind.

:20:46.:20:55.

Purposefully not playing that particular shot - too difficult -

:20:56.:21:00.

because the red he's closest too is still on into the corner pocket. 25.

:21:01.:21:08.

Just a little bit straight. Wanted a couple of inches on the cue ball.

:21:09.:21:23.

Now, this shot will tell us the story. Play the easy red over the

:21:24.:21:31.

right centre, but this tells us all blacks is on his mind. 33.

:21:32.:21:53.

And a red in the middle of this a bunch. That's straight into the

:21:54.:22:01.

corner pocket, he got on it absolutely perfect. It's a wonderful

:22:02.:22:08.

shot there. Yes, and he's adverse to making that. He's made two. He made

:22:09.:22:17.

one last season - or last year, and one in 2010. He's just underhit it.

:22:18.:22:32.

48. Can't see him playing for the black now, Ken. No, there was a

:22:33.:22:37.

little grimace. He had a lot of margin for error as we can see.

:22:38.:22:41.

There's plenty of room between the red and the pink there, and that's a

:22:42.:22:46.

shame. But his priority is now just to win the frame. Set up lovely.

:22:47.:22:53.

Because of the red over the middle pocket as well, as you said, you

:22:54.:22:56.

always have a bit of extra insurance. Inside he'll be

:22:57.:23:06.

disappointed, but he'll be happy if he win it is frame from this

:23:07.:23:11.

position now. -- wins the frame from this position now. Still has got a

:23:12.:23:17.

chance with a very high break. 137 at the moment by Mark Allen. Goes

:23:18.:23:25.

away from the black, he reduces it. Was a possible 145, now after the

:23:26.:23:30.

blue it's going to be a possible 143. ?10,000 for the high break

:23:31.:23:37.

prize. So worth thinking about. Looks any thought of a high break

:23:38.:24:22.

has completely gone out of the window now because he's completely

:24:23.:24:24.

concentrating on potting enough balls to win the frame. And that

:24:25.:24:35.

basically a red and a blue will do. This blue will put him 69 points in

:24:36.:24:46.

front with just 67 remaining. So it's swinging to and fro - this

:24:47.:24:48.

match. APPLAUSE

:24:49.:24:57.

Barry won the first two. Joe Perry win the next three - and this is the

:24:58.:25:02.

second frame in success for Barry Hawkins. -- succession. Can't beat

:25:03.:25:09.

the high break now. 75. He's made a 93 career centuries.

:25:10.:25:47.

Joe Perry on the other hand, just over the 200 mark. 209. Of course

:25:48.:26:00.

Tom in 19 92. Couple of centuries is good for any professional. He has

:26:01.:26:08.

his work cut out to keep the break on here. That's a shame, the red

:26:09.:26:18.

doesn't go in. He can't make the century, but Joe Perry says that's

:26:19.:26:22.

enough for him. And Barry Hawkins now goes into a four frame to three

:26:23.:26:27.

lead. Great break from Hawkins. Got a real good chance now to pile more

:26:28.:26:31.

pressure on Joe Perry. We go into the next frame with the scores at

:26:32.:26:33.

8-8. Yes, nicely cued.

:26:34.:26:45.

APPLAUSE Not as much pressure on that shot

:26:46.:26:49.

because it wasn't really leaving anything, only possibly the ball he

:26:50.:26:56.

was taking on. And he played it pretty confidently. Nicely on the

:26:57.:27:01.

blue. Couple of reds above the black as well in play.

:27:02.:27:15.

7. Well, he played the run through and just got stung. That was

:27:16.:27:46.

careless. Steve Davis, if anyone was watching, you have to hit this

:27:47.:27:51.

slightly above centre and get the stung and then the run through. But

:27:52.:27:55.

he just got the stung, it's too low. But he's recovered well!

:27:56.:27:58.

APPLAUSE It's one of those situations where

:27:59.:28:02.

he was in a fortunate position where just potting the black was going to

:28:03.:28:07.

get in position on the next red. On another day he would have been on

:28:08.:28:11.

nothing because he couldn't do much with a cue ball. . . 15 What a

:28:12.:28:16.

chance it is now. He's done that quite a few times tonight, hasn't

:28:17.:28:23.

he. Had a lot of awkward blacks, bridging over balls, and seemed to

:28:24.:28:25.

have got every one. 22. Joe Perry looks on - a bit

:28:26.:28:43.

worried. Will he be getting another chance in this frame?

:28:44.:28:48.

23. Needs a good canon. Yeah, I think it's one of those canons where

:28:49.:29:07.

you like to walk the bone. Can you do an arc? Obviously not. What's the

:29:08.:29:17.

worst arc I have ever seen? Nice canon on this red, though. He'll be

:29:18.:29:21.

OK. He's always going to be on to the red in the left-hand corner

:29:22.:29:27.

pocket, and that looks pretty good. 30. He didn't get what we said, but

:29:28.:29:42.

he hit the red you said. Doesn't look too bad. I think he can pot

:29:43.:29:50.

this in the hole for the black. I always said - the modern players are

:29:51.:29:58.

so proficient now with the reds. And even me saying that couldn't stop

:29:59.:30:03.

him potting it. But at the moment, Barry Hawkins - 8/8. And Joe Perry

:30:04.:30:08.

6/6. That's 100% both of them with the rest.

:30:09.:30:19.

Must be better rest than there used to be. He wanted to be closer to the

:30:20.:30:25.

black with the cue ball. Yeah, just... I think you'd settle

:30:26.:30:37.

for that, wouldn't you? It's not too bad, is it? Not bad at all. 38. This

:30:38.:30:45.

red is certainly straightforward into the middle pact, get on the

:30:46.:30:50.

blue and he's brought a couple of reds into play now as well. So frame

:30:51.:31:06.

is at his mercy. 39. Were you a good "rest "player, John? I was tall. You

:31:07.:31:07.

didn't need it! I used to practice a lot, because as

:31:08.:31:31.

an amateur losing competition in the English amateur and the rest - I

:31:32.:31:36.

practised a lot. Those were the days before extensions and things like

:31:37.:31:40.

that. And you - you needed the long rest, you know, it was like you were

:31:41.:31:42.

going fishing. So 50 ahead. 75 remaining. That

:31:43.:31:52.

equates to two reds, two colours. Well, is he not on anything? 58.

:31:53.:32:36.

That's the lead, 58. 67 remaining but if he's not on a red, that's

:32:37.:32:45.

careless. Sand he mustn't be. So Joe Perry will be getting a chance to

:32:46.:32:53.

come back to the table. OK. Long way behind, but. Not out of this frame.

:32:54.:32:58.

58. Barry Hawkins. APPLAUSE

:32:59.:33:07.

He tried to play the shot trying to get another red safe - which he has

:33:08.:33:13.

done. But he's also sacrificed leaving this red on in the bottom

:33:14.:33:18.

corner pocket, but doesn't look like Joe was going to entertain it.

:33:19.:33:22.

Registered it below the pink, just pot it in the bottom right-hand

:33:23.:33:26.

pocket. But the problem is - being 58 behind, only 67 on the table,

:33:27.:33:31.

doesn't have many points to play with particularly if he lands on a

:33:32.:33:39.

ball colour to potting this red. There's the pot. He's got to be on

:33:40.:33:50.

it. That's the problem. Yep. He's now 57 points behind, but there's

:33:51.:33:52.

only 59 remaining. Joe Perry - 1. No way Joe Perry wants to remove

:33:53.:34:18.

that red that's tight against the cushion. I think he can get through

:34:19.:34:28.

to those two reds near the pink, but - unless he plays it dead weight.

:34:29.:34:33.

But that's a bit risky. As you can see, he can hit the first one, if he

:34:34.:34:39.

played it the correct pace, the cue ball would just stick on that red,

:34:40.:34:43.

but if he hits it too hard or it rolled off slightly, he could leave

:34:44.:34:48.

a potter. Well, he could play this shot, John. I mean he would be

:34:49.:34:53.

knocking one red after the other and probably a red up, but it's a bit

:34:54.:34:59.

risky. But I like that shot. Particularly with the two reds safe.

:35:00.:35:03.

And possibly get another red safe, couldn't he? And Joe Perry, in

:35:04.:35:07.

effect, needing blacks with every red. See if he play this is shot,

:35:08.:35:14.

landing on this red, Joe Perry can possibly bring this red into play.

:35:15.:35:21.

That's exactly what he's going to do. I learn everyday why they call

:35:22.:35:28.

you Crafty Ken. Has been Clueless for a while now. That's one red away

:35:29.:35:42.

from the cushion. I would think the green is covering the path. Maybe

:35:43.:35:47.

not. Perry is down early so he can get through the gap. Puts the red

:35:48.:35:56.

back near the cushion. Oh, that was careless. I really -

:35:57.:36:14.

you know, don't know why he played that red. I would have played the

:36:15.:36:18.

lower one and gone around the back of that when there was always a

:36:19.:36:23.

chance the middle pocket bump could come in the way here, which is

:36:24.:36:27.

exactly what it did. Could cost him the frame. Has done! Has cost him

:36:28.:36:32.

the frame now. There would be no return. So that was a little bit

:36:33.:36:35.

careless from Joe. So 63 points ahead is Barry Hawkins

:36:36.:36:51.

with just 51 remaining. And if he pot this is red, I don't think Joe

:36:52.:36:56.

Perry will contemplate returning to the table.

:36:57.:37:06.

But it's not there, but will Joe come back to the table? . Barry

:37:07.:37:16.

Hawkins - 6. He needs two snookers or three snookers, otherwise Barry

:37:17.:37:19.

Hawkins will be one frame away from victory.

:37:20.:37:22.

Hawkins did win that frame. He's edging closer to that victory, but

:37:23.:37:27.

Joe Perry really needs to win this next frame and he's doing a good job

:37:28.:37:30.

of trying to stay in this one. Went for the little one, but always

:37:31.:37:42.

a possibility of leaving this red on. Well, that could be a bis

:37:43.:37:48.

mistake from Joe Perry. OK, he wasn't far away from the pot, but at

:37:49.:37:53.

that pace, he wasn't going to be covering this red.

:37:54.:38:06.

It's not a bad kiss. 1. Now, what a chance. Will Joe Perry get another

:38:07.:38:20.

one? That was a bit of a strange one, John. What would you have

:38:21.:38:25.

played there? I think he probably thought that was the pot he could

:38:26.:38:29.

play, as you say, he was very close. But he caught it a bit too thin. Got

:38:30.:38:35.

that extra bit of pace. It was his decision and you stand or fall by

:38:36.:38:40.

them. But now he's got to sit there and hope that Barry doesn't make the

:38:41.:38:44.

most of this opportunity. For Barry to win the frame at this visit would

:38:45.:38:49.

be very difficult for me. But you'd be surprised if he wasn't in front

:38:50.:38:55.

when he went back to his seat. If he doesn't win the frame. Well, the

:38:56.:39:04.

good thing, I'm sure the black pot to the left-hand corner pocket,

:39:05.:39:10.

doesn't go into the right, obviously, but that will certainly

:39:11.:39:13.

help. Pink will go back on to its spot.

:39:14.:39:21.

10. These two reds look like a deadset plant into this corner

:39:22.:39:34.

pocket as well. It's another bonus for Barry Hawkins. Well, I didn't

:39:35.:39:39.

notice they were a plant canon, now they are. This is a frame and

:39:40.:39:43.

match-winning opportunity without a doubt. I don't think Barry noticed

:39:44.:39:51.

either until just a few seconds ago. Because he would have come out to

:39:52.:40:02.

have a look at that a few times. Just with potting that plant, you

:40:03.:40:07.

got a red has now blocked the black into the left-hand corner pocket.

:40:08.:40:11.

You can only concentrate on pinks there. 17.

:40:12.:40:22.

We just caught a glimpse there. The black doesn't go into the pocket

:40:23.:40:30.

with this red. He's got a bit of ball with this cue ball there. Well,

:40:31.:40:35.

he can get on to it to the middle. It didn't look quite on. It's a

:40:36.:40:41.

little bit more difficult. But he goes comfortably. He's played it

:40:42.:40:44.

well. APPLAUSE

:40:45.:40:51.

And we were mentioning about when you see the winning line. So far,

:40:52.:40:55.

he's looking calm, cool and collected.

:40:56.:41:06.

Oh! Just stay down on that a little bit longer, because that looked like

:41:07.:41:30.

it was escape in the pocket. 31. 32. He's played that nicely. Just

:41:31.:41:48.

dropped the pink into the right centre, bottom red of those two will

:41:49.:41:49.

pot. 11 points to lead - Joe Perry -

:41:50.:42:10.

fearing the worse. Oh, would you believe it?! I did say about when

:42:11.:42:15.

that winning posts come in sight, things can happen! What a miss! What

:42:16.:42:25.

a miss this was! Doing nothing with the cue ball.

:42:26.:42:32.

Concentration - thinking too far ahead. 1.

:42:33.:42:59.

The red directly behind the black pot in the left-hand corner pocket.

:43:00.:43:08.

So it's a nice angle for potting. That's not a good shot. It was a

:43:09.:43:12.

terrible. That is a shocker from Joe Perry. Wanted to be straight on that

:43:13.:43:15.

pink. Not quite sure why he didn't pot the red. Why didn't he pot the

:43:16.:43:20.

red and take the pink into the right centre? So much easier to get on the

:43:21.:43:26.

red behind the black then. Now he can't get on that red. That's a

:43:27.:43:28.

shocker! And compounds the mistake by trying

:43:29.:43:56.

to recover it with that one shot. And that was the only way he could

:43:57.:44:02.

play it, but using the rest, that pace, to screw off the side cushion

:44:03.:44:07.

to get position on that red, which he wouldn't have had to do if he

:44:08.:44:11.

came straight on it, as Ken said. He's offered up another chance for

:44:12.:44:18.

Barry. And it's a good pot. APPLAUSE

:44:19.:44:25.

He's just about on the yellow. Although they're off to screw direct

:44:26.:44:29.

because I wouldn't fancy to play the red on the left corner. I think the

:44:30.:44:34.

red basses the black to the right corner. He's got to get into this.

:44:35.:44:42.

Yes, some sort of angle. Looks like he's playing - coming off the

:44:43.:44:46.

cushion but he needs to get the cue ball over that side. And that's not

:44:47.:44:52.

very good. But he's perfect for a snooker. Might be potable from here

:44:53.:44:56.

but he's very, very lucky if he can pot the red from here, John. Well,

:44:57.:45:00.

you'd almost be wondering what's happened. OK, he's missed his

:45:01.:45:07.

chance, but this is no way in the world that Barry plays on the red

:45:08.:45:11.

like this. It looks like he can pot it because he's looking at the

:45:12.:45:16.

potting angle. You couldn't picked it up with your hand and put it in a

:45:17.:45:19.

better place. Fortunate. APPLAUSE

:45:20.:45:39.

And in it goes! So now up to and including the blue for his first win

:45:40.:45:44.

at The Masters, and a place in the quarterfinal.

:45:45.:45:54.

8. He put straight on the green, was OK. And he's not straight.

:45:55.:46:16.

11. Been a gad match, Ken. Been entertaining, been a few mistakes,

:46:17.:46:25.

which makes it more exciting! Absolutely. 15. Barry will be

:46:26.:46:33.

absolutely delighted. Just 18 remaining but he's not going to miss

:46:34.:46:40.

this blue. Joe will be kicking himself. He had some chances.

:46:41.:46:43.

APPLAUSE As you say - on the blue just making

:46:44.:46:50.

absolutely sure. He's not won a match here in The Masters, but he's

:46:51.:47:03.

won this one. OK, he's missed the pink, but just two snookers needed

:47:04.:47:09.

and big ask for Joe Perry. Barry Hawkins - in the quarterfinal.

:47:10.:47:14.

Yes a few minutes later it was all over. Barry Hawkins creeding his

:47:15.:47:18.

first ever win having been beaten at this stage on four previous

:47:19.:47:23.

occasions. Last year, some 6-1 by Ali Carter and now look forward to

:47:24.:47:26.

the quarterfinal against Mark Allen on Thursday. I'd like to get through

:47:27.:47:32.

after finally after six years like you say, yes, it's quite great to

:47:33.:47:36.

win a match here. And, yeah, I'm just more pleased the way I felt out

:47:37.:47:41.

there. I felt my game was going in the right direction again. So, yeah,

:47:42.:47:45.

I'm delighted to get through a tough match like that. It was a good match

:47:46.:47:50.

up until about 3-3 for me. And I seemed to lose it a little bit. But

:47:51.:47:54.

that's more down to Barry's good play. He missed nothing easy. I

:47:55.:48:01.

worked for every chance I got. Chanced dried up when 3-2 ahead. I

:48:02.:48:06.

hadn't had much table time and it fizzled out in the end. I think it

:48:07.:48:10.

was more down to Barry's good play rather than me not really showing

:48:11.:48:14.

up. Just staying positive, I think, not beating myself up if I did

:48:15.:48:17.

something wrong. I don't think I did too wrong, I missed a couple, but

:48:18.:48:21.

you can't play perfect snooker all the time. I think it was just - I

:48:22.:48:25.

was just mentally stronger today, I think. And, yeah, just kept trying

:48:26.:48:29.

to stay positive and focused and I think that was the difference

:48:30.:48:33.

really. And congratulations to Barry Hawkins through to the

:48:34.:48:35.

quarterfinals. That is it from us, but snooker Extra is up next with

:48:36.:48:41.

extended highlights of Judd Trump versus Stephen Maguire. And stand by

:48:42.:48:48.

from Ronnie's return. That's later at 1 PM on BBC Two as he takes on

:48:49.:48:54.

Mark Williams. But that's all from us here.

:48:55.:49:08.

the most important moment in your entire lives.
