2 hello, welcome to Match Of The Day 2. Yesterday provided shocks and

talking points aplenty. Will today do the same? Let's find out with the

first of the two games we have for you. Arsenal continue to lead the

rest with almost every goal they score being a beauty. Whatever the

public say, whatever the odds on them winning the title, this is the

best team in England right now. If Arsenal have surprised some, what

about Everton? Roberto Martinez has bought, sold and borrowed to

mastermind a season of highs. But can they rise to their biggest

challenge so far? Guy Mowbray is at the Emirates. With every impressive

win the expectations shift a little higher. Arsenal could win the title

and Everton might finish in the top four. Arsenal made four changes from

Wednesday's win over Hull. Jenkinson continues at right back. Everton

remains unchanged in the same team that started at Manchester United

midweek. The World Cup will bring together people of all nations,

creeds and colours and all crowds in the Premier League this weekend have

taken a moment to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Nelson

Mandela. That was not such a good shot from

Kevin Mirallas. Gibbs could not finish it off. He

says there was an Everton touch. This is Arsenal's better chance.

Jenkinson was going to let it fly. A superb ball in from Santi Cazorla.

175 Premier League goals for Henry. A whole host of Arsenal legends are

back to watch their team today. What a shame about that ball in.

Romelu Lukaku thought it should have been more sprightly. There are a few

decent English players out on the field today.

He was onside. He is pounding the ground in frustration. Tim Howard

was so quick to keep it zero to keep it 020.

Tim Howard was off his line in the blink of an eye again. You get

goalkeepers at the top level who fly through the air and perform

spectacular saves. Saved by Howard. Not enough on it

from Santi Cazorla. It arrived with a little too much pace for the

Spaniard. You can understand Roberto

Martinez' words this week, delighted with a fantastic blend of

experienced and arrogant young players. He means arrogant in a

really positive sense. It was kept out by Howard with

Ramsey looking for yet another goal, and it was going in. A super move

from Ciaran Gibbs. Howard was a cross in the nick of time.

Koscielny was once again spot on. Wilson and architecture are looking

at one another. Theo Walcott did well. It was a nice

touch back from Oliver Joe Ruud that was a brilliant effort. The

ankle was very tight. Koscielny did well to get something on that. Kevin

Mirallas makes way for Gerard -- Gerard Deulofeu. Mesut Ozil has not

missed it. A huge noise around the stadium. So often this place has

been described as a passionless pit. It is absolutely rocking now. It

might be the goal that wins the game for Arsenal and takes them seven

points clear at the top of the Premier League.

It was not easy, even being so close. He controlled it into the

roof of the net brilliantly. He scores for the second game in a row

and it is his fifth Gunners' goal. What a signing he is proving to be.

Not that anyone ever doubted his quality, but he has taken to the

Premier League so easily and lit it up. What a strike from the teenager,

Gerard Deulofeu. Confidence, arrogance, extreme ability. The same

goes for Ross Berkeley. He has found a fresh energy from somewhere.

He was quite superb against Stoke when starting last weekend. He has

only been on the field a couple of minutes this evening. He has drawn

Everton level with a thumper. Arsenal want a win at home to extend

their already impressive points at the top.

Lukaku should have been flagged offside.

The Arsenal fans behind the goal are screaming that Mathieu Flamini was

fouled. He was already on the floor. I do not think he was getting up to

impede him at all. Lukaku was going for something. The

intention is applauded by the manager. Some of his team-mates are

arguing he should have passed. Martinez is not so sure with the

form he is in. He can feel the anguish. We have now played three

extra minutes. That was brilliant, it was so close to winning it. The

flag is being waived. With Olivier Giroud, a matter of inches away from

winning the game with an absolute scorcher. It is all over. There are

a few disappointed groans, but they will only be temporary because

everybody who has been here today has seen a super game of Premier

League football. Spectators are applauding both sets of players. It

makes a nice change, everybody is going home reasonably happy. We know

we have quality and at least we took a point today. I thought the way we

had to work hard, we had a real energetic look about our play and it

was very pleasing. In the second half the goal came from nothing and

probably that surprised us a little bit. But there was plenty of

character to get back and get an outstanding finish of that quality.

It was a fitting moment to finish on a really good game of football. It

was a high tempo game and they dominated the first half and we

built up strongly and found a way to press them and they always found a

way out. We had a few clear chances to score and in the second half we

were on top of the game, but credit to Everton, they are the best side

we faced this season in the Premier League. We know that there are teams

who have spent a lot of money who are going to be challenging for the

top item actress is but everyone is starting to realise how well we are

doing. Life and football is perfect at the moment, isn't it? It is

losing the gods, and living the life. He is a lucky man.

You had two class sides playing at full throttle, the passing, the

movement, the pace, the control, it was excellent, it was electric. And

a pleasure to watch two great sites, and the draw was a fair result.

Every week we argue about the use of the possession statistics. But in

the first half, Mikel Arteta said, they had 62% of possession in the

first half. They did not create too many fantastic chances with that.

You do not often go to the Emirates and dominate Arsenal. They could not

get out of their half. Everton pressed play up the pitch. I have

not seen any Premier League side do to Arsenal in a long time. Did the

attitude of the fullbacks signal that intent? They were a massive

part of it. Robert Martin is set out his game plan to get forward as much

as possible. Seamus Coleman had more touches in the attacking half, which

should not happen at the Emirates. Bryan Oviedo was exactly the same.

They got forward as much as they could. They pegged Arsenal back.

Both of them at times going at the same time. This is Seamus Coleman

down the right-hand side, not a brilliant cross, but Bryan Oviedo

picks it up. That is right back to left back. They did it at Manchester

United and got the late goal, and again, Seamus Coleman coming inside,

it was a rash shot over the bar, but Bryan Oviedo was up there, as well.

This is brilliant to see. Seamus Coleman running in behind, causing

Arsenal problems and turning the defence. Bryan Oviedo at the far

post, just in case. Finally, you see Bryan Oviedo on the far side. It is

ridiculous, that they both go forward at will. They can do that

purely because you have got Gareth Barry sitting in just in front of

the back four. You have got two players sitting there, which means

that the fullbacks can bomb forward. Would you have done that? No. A

simple answer to a simple question. Let's hear about Ross Barkley, this

is Roberto Martin ease on his performance. Ross Barkley is an

incredible person. He has a real love for the game. I have never seen

an English player with that sort of mentality, and we need to make sure

that we give him another 50, 55 games to see his evolution. Any

player with talent needs to develop an understanding and know-how to be

effective. We have to be more protective of youngsters because we

are talking about someone who, if we look after them properly, could give

something unique to the English game and the nation. The fact that he

says he's going to have 50 starts, does that highlight that he has got

the right manager? That is because he is an Everton player. If he

played for anybody else, it would be ten starts. This kid has got it

all. Left foot, right foot, all of the attributes of a top-class

player. And he has got the strength to go with it. Use always looking

forward, ready to attack, and then if you have got a great left and

right foot and vision and awareness like that, he is just scything

between the Arsenal defenders there. What I like here is that all he

wants to do is go forward. He likes to break the line of defence and go

forward at every opportunity. He is prepared to take the risk. In the

end that shot is not brilliant, but he's prepared to have a go. We coach

that out of too many players in this country. Straight at the goalkeeper

in the end but it is a good strike on target. As the ball comes into

him, where is he thinking first remark most layers would play them

back, play the safe option, but Ross Barkley is thinking, I can take

these two players out of the game with a good turn and some skill, and

off he goes, and he did that all game, he was very positive from the

beginning. Do you both find that refreshing that a youngster is

prepared to take people on, which maybe we have seen less of an recent

years, as we encouraged a controlled way of playing? The unusual thing

for a 20-year-old, when you get the right foot and left foot and that

strong ability, is to have the strength to go along with it, and I

tell you what, he can go right to the very top. It is the 8th of

December, nine minutes to 11, by my watch. You would never expect me to

say this on any programme at any time. I have been critical of Per

Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, but they were magnificent. Talking

about central defensive play, the partnership, getting in position,

they read it and they intercept, every single time. What I like about

them, Per Mertesacker in particular, it was always neutral, so that they

could go to the left or to the right. They intercept everything

with consummate ease, every single time, both of them. Again, when you

talk about the weight being neutral, he can go left or right, he reads

it, he picks it up and plays it, and that is very difficult, to get in

that good position and read as well as he has done. Again, he makes the

tackle look simple. That position, the near post position, he can go

left, right, and for Per Mertesacker to finish off. It was a wonderful

performance. Per Mertesacker is not the quickest, if you can pull him

out towards the halfway line then he is in trouble but when he is

defending, this season he has been exceptionally good. One final thing

we have to show was the shot that could have won it. It would have

been unfair on Everton. But this summed up the game. It was

sensational. The first touch and then they hit. It would have been

harsh on Everton because they had played well, but that was worthy of

winning the game. It was well outside the post and it comes in

with the goalkeeper well beaten. He has that little nervous laugh, I

cannot believe that it did not go in. Fulham against Aston Villa is

still to come but now it is time for you to choose the November goal of

the month. Here are the ten to pick from.

Ramsey, shoots this time, brilliant shot, what a goal! Aaron Ramsey's

season just gets better and better. Mice into play, Adam Lallana.

Causing real problems. The ball sticking to his foot. That is

absolutely brilliant. What a fantastic goal from Southampton's

captain, Adam Lallana. Lovely coat -- lovely close control, great

balance and skill, and still a tight angle.

Support from Peter Crouch. And straight into the path of Stephen

Ireland, brilliantly worked goal, from Stoke City. The triangle of

passes, and at the point of that triangle, Stephen Ireland, and those

who have made a visit from the potteries are delighted that they

have done so. Seven games from Liverpool this

season and eight holes. Luis Suarez. Nine goals. It curled in

beautifully, right into the corner. Jonjo Shelvey, he is away from Steve

Sidwell, and that there is a blockbuster. Rising drive high into

the net. What a start from Hugo Lloris,

gifting the ball to Sergio Aguero, and Jesus Navas scores, with 15

seconds gone. Incredible. Just incredible.

Alvaro Negredo, it could be five, it is five. Use making the game look

easy. What a turn. That is a good ball. And forward

towards Fraizer Campbell. 1-1. Straight through the middle. Slicing

Manchester United apart. The ball over the top for Shane

Long, and what a super goal by Shane Long. The touch enabled him to fire

a left foot shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Moussa Sissoko with a shooting opportunity. What a strike from

Cissokho. An absolute stunner. There are your ten goals. You can vote on

Fulham are in desperate trouble. Anonymous at the start, pitiful by

the end, but they are trying to save themselves. Under new management

there are signs of life, but they lost again, midweek. Today, they

face Aston Villa, the poster boys of Premier League unpredictability,

beating Arsenal and Manchester City, failing to win against

Sunderland and West Ham. It was a tough one to call for John Murray. A

trip to Craven Cottage is always enjoyable. The trouble for Fulham is

that too many visiting teams leave feeling the same way. Rene

Meulensteen became the successor to Martin Jol a week ago. For his first

match he made seven changes. Today, just one, with Steve Sidwell

returning to face one of his clubs, replacing Patjim Kasami. Ron Vlaar,

Antonio Luna and Libor Kozak a royal absent, which means a return to the

team for Chris Herd, Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke. He was

dropped to the bench for the trip to St Mary's 's, having not scored

since mid-September. Craven Cottage now pays its tribute to not Mandela.

-- to Nelson Mandela. It really is time to stop the rot,

for Fulham. This run they are on at the moment is not good enough,

having lost their last seven matches.

Berbatov is suggesting he got shoved in the back. Ashkan Dejagah with the

shot. Kieran Clark, behind Berbatov. I am not sure how much contact was

or whether it justified a penalty. The corner kick, and that was an

excellent save from Brad Guzan, from Berbatov. He needed the frame of the

goal to help him, but that was a terrific stop. It is a five match

unbeaten run for Aston Villa. That was the first sight of goal for

Christian Benteke. He just needs a goal. It is mid-September since he

last scored. It was last Sunday afternoon when Rene Meulensteen's

appointment was confirmed. He now needs the results to go with the

performance. A second chance for Christian

Benteke. It looked as if it was going to open up for Fulham. If you

remember Christian Benteke started the season almost scoring at will.

Since then he has completely dried up. Paul Lambert today is without

his captain. He was onside. It is off the line by

Baker. Ashkan Dejagah looked as though he was offside. He might have

been caught. He has scored! Somehow he managed to

direct that on target. Steve Sidwell against his former club almost

midway through the first half. Fulham, just as on Wednesday night,

are in front. What did he do there? A really cute touch from Steve

Sidwell. He scored his third goal of the season. Now, this time on Fulham

going to be able to keep the lead they have given themselves.

And Leandro Bacuna has failed him. It is a penalty. That is a quizzical

look from Leandro Bacuna. It is the contact on the back of his leg.

There is no card. Dimitar Berbatov, who has not scored in his last five

appearances. Well, almost only Dimitar Berbatov can score a penalty

like that. How many times did it bounced before it ended up in the

back of the net? And the second bounce into the bottom corner. So

cool. Today surely must be the day that the full end this losing run.

If they do not, there will be serious questions.

I think Paul Lambert will feel if they can get a goal they might be

able to rattle Fulham. That was lovely from Fulham. It is

amazing what a couple of goals will do for confidence. And Dimitar

Berbatov is at the heart of things. When you see him like he is to

date, you wonder how they could exist without him.

It put me in mind of the opening goal he scored in Euro 2004 for

Greece against Portugal. There is the former Fulham manager, who is in

charge of Wales. That was almost a kick out by Berbatov.

He came a long way, but he did not make it and it was so close to

three. That was a rare misjudgement by Brad Guzan. John Arne Riise was

just a couple of inches away. No penalty. Agbonlahor wonders why.

They looked to be contact. That is tight. I think Agbonlahor did have a

case for a penalty. And there we have it. Seven weeks of

losing is over for Fulham. And Rene Meulensteen has his first victory

since taking over from Martin Jol one week ago. I asked the guys to

build on the performance from last Wednesday and I think they deserved

more out of the game and they needed to keep on building. I was

disappointed. Especially with the penalties. I thought the first was

not and I thought ours was. I thought we did enough to win. It is

always about opinions. We were lucky to get the first one and sometimes

football is like that. There is nobody in his way, the referee can

see it. There is nobody impeding his view. I thought his performance

today was put. It was a bit unfair on Martin because it was a little

bit too late. It is a shame, but we need to carry on and try and

maintain it. Both managers agree. The first one

was a bad decision. Leandro Bacuna does not want to go in a straight

line because straight behind him and any contact and there is a penalty.

He goes to his right and then he comes in and I think the Fulham

player goes in and barges into him. I do not think there is a foul. It

was a bit like Ramirez against West Bromwich. Leandro Bacuna cannot do

anything to get out of the way. I think Agbonlahor goes down

theatrically, but when you see the second look there is definite

contact and there is a foul and again the referee had a good view of

that. If he had gone down naturally, he might have got it? He

throws his arms up in the air and it puts a doubt in the referee's mine.

The referee was wrong in both counts. Karagounis has started in

both games with Rene Meulensteen. He did everything. You want an

experienced midfield player to do this. He tackled, he passed it well,

but it was all three of them for me. Steve Sidwell and Parker and

Karagounis. For three players who have not played together that often,

they understood each other. Karagounis is the more advanced of

the three, although he is the oldest at 36. Steve Sidwell breaks the

first one up. Karagounis gets a fantastic hug from his manager and

Parker and Steve Sidwell carried on all the good work, they got in

tackle after a tackle. They give you that comfort blanket. All three

players are closing down the ball. Karagounis picks it up and plays it

into Berbatov. He gets the little 1-2 and Sidwell runs on and scooped

it into the back of the net. Those three players, their experience gave

them something else. We were talking about the age of the Fulham side.

That was the oldest named side in the Premier League this season. So

sometimes age works for you. But they were trying today, and in the

past they were not trying, especially the player you mentioned

now. You definitely was trying today. Under Martin Jol he was not

trying. Today he was a different player. This was the first couple of

minutes of the game. He tried to make things happen. We all know what

a fantastic player he is and what great touches he has got, but he was

winning and holding the ball up and getting back to help defenders. He

steps up himself as cool as you like and waits for the goalkeeper to move

and that touch is majestic. The players are scared of him. He is

able to do that because they give him that security blanket. You can

afford to play a luxury player like Dimitar Berbatov. Today he looked

like a completely different player. It was passing and flicks and tricks

all afternoon. Technically in the top three, possibly number one, but

his attitude is appalling. With one hand you give Earth and another you

take away. That is the way you do this job. We looked at Everton area

dashed earlier. You have got to have the right structure. What Leandro

Bacuna did today in the first half is he stood up there and left space

in behind like it was beyond belief. He is the other side of the pitch

and what he does is he is watching and he is going forward and going

forward. We are going to highlight how much space is in there. There is

not an Aston Villa player in that area and sooner or later you are

going to pay for it. He is just standing there, he is not arriving

in that position. So any breakdown and there is trouble. This is where

the penalty kick comes from. He gets attracted to the ball and Leandro

Bacuna is the wrong side. It was a major problem all afternoon. He has

contributed to his own downfall. But in Fulham he is not interested in

going forward, John Arne Riise. He is still not interested in going

forward. Is he going to come into the picture? Now they are in

possession and in good position and he gets forward and gets in a great

position and that is the way you do it. And Parker is providing that

safety blanket. Absolutely. This time next week we will know the new

Sports Personality Of The Year. How can a programme that has been around

for so long remain so relevant? The second anybody does anything great,

they will win Sports Personality Of The Year. Perhaps it is the

memories. Maybe it is the moment. Three-time Grand National winner,

can you get into this live? It is the most iconic trophy in sport. I

Year. We begin our round up of yesterday's games at Old Trafford.

Alan Pardew had a game plan. And could that have been a penalty? It

was a very difficult one to give. He does not know where the ball is. But

the difference, was the two midfield players, I think that both you and

you buy an Cheikh Tiote would walk into the United team. Without Wayne

Rooney at the moment, they look devoid of confidence and

inspiration. It was a well-deserved victory. You're looking forward

class players to provide something extra when you are struggling. But

Rooney was suspended. Robin Van Persie has been out for four

matches. And you're sitting in the dressing room and struggling.

Newcastle, at any other time they might have won the game, but when

you're struggling everything goes against you. There was only one way

they're going to get out of trouble and that is by playing better, and

it is up to the layers, individually and collectively, to do better on

the pitch. How many times have you spoken about

the Manchester United midfielder needing something else and yet it

still has not been done? This has been the talking point of the

summer. It was well documented. What they need is somebody who is

creative in the middle of the park but where do you find it? All of a

sudden, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are getting long in the tooth

and you need a good centre back. At the minute, you're still attracting

the best players at Manchester United, but they are going to have

to spend big in January. Might they not be able to attract them if

things are still not going well? If they do not get into the Champions

League, they are still a major club, Manchester United, but players go

for money first, then the Champions League. The next batch of

yesterday's games involves the sides pushing Arsenal at the top. Jose

Mourinho's Chelsea have conceded 17 league goals, more than in his

entire first season at the club in 2004. Yesterday, Stoke City took

advantage to win by the odd goal in five.

Nowadays with Andre Schurrle. Turning Ryan Shawcross and curling

it in. It is the perfect pennies from Andre Schurrle. The perfect

start for Chelsea. He beat Ryan Shawcross not once but twice before

unleashing the shot into the bottom corner past Asmir Begovic. And

Chelsea into an early lead. Petr Cech thought about it and did not

quite get there. Stoke City have the equaliser, Peter Crouch! Petr Cech

thought about coming, then you had second thoughts, did not go for it,

got stuck in no man's land, and Peter Crouch found the bottom of the

net. No foul awarded for the challenge by

Jon Walters on Azpilicueta. Now it is with Stephen Ireland, and he goes

the goal, and he scores. And Stoke City have turned this game on its

head. Azpilicueta went down. There was a look to the referee. No free

kick awarded to Chelsea, and Stephen Ireland finishes the job and

Chelsea, who looked in control of the game for most of the first half,

find themselves behind. Juan Mata prepares to take this. Plenty

forward for it as well. There is Andre Schurrle, what a strike. Into

the net like a laser. Half cleared by the defence, and they Benameur 's

shot from Andre Schurrle. -- it was a Benameur shot. -- venomous. What a

goal, and what a winner for Stoke City from Oussama Assaidi. The

Britannia Stadium goes absolutely mad. The late substitute wins the

day, surely. What a finish. He has not had much to cheer about in the

last few weeks but he enjoyed that. More points dropped on the road by

Manchester City, but take nothing away from Southampton who were

excellent, and scored one of the goals of the season. Samia nursery.

Column of -- Samia Nazarene. That was avoidable from

Southampton's point of view. Clinical from the point of view of

Manchester City, and Sergio Aguero, who is in deadly form, rattles home

another. Help on the Dani Osvaldo. He was never going to run away from

Vincent Kompany, but he turns, twice, three times, what a goal!

That is absolutely brilliant. ?15 million it costs from AS Roma and

that is by 1 million miles the best thing he has done for Southampton.

Sensational, from Dani Osvaldo. How many times did he beat Vincent

Kompany? And then, inch perfect, over the top of the goalkeeper, who

is six foot eight, remember. That is a special moment. As good a goal as

you will see. Another block of goals at Anfield with Luis Suarez on the

target again. Two defeats for West Ham.

Luis Suarez gets it back from Johnson, how unfortunate, off the

ride ML, and into the West Ham net. Kept out by Jaaskelainen, but

against the shins of his right back. -- off Guy Demel. Gerard's delivery

is good, and that is in. Another scrappy goal. Sakho, Going for gold,

and the other central defender, Martin Skrtel, charged down the

attempted clearance by James Collins, and now Liverpool have

daylight between themselves and West Ham. Martin Skrtel, with the own

goal. He scored one at Hull City a couple of weeks ago and maybe there

was a way back for West Ham United. The delivery from Demel. Jarvis put

it back into the mix, and then Martin Skrtel gets to it.

Glen Johnson, looking for Luis Suarez. It had to be. It is not

Liverpool at Anfield unless Luis Suarez scores this season. Fabulous

delivery from Glen Johnson. Look at how Luis Suarez time could run

valiantly. -- times his run brilliantly. Surely that is the end

of Sam Allardyce's hopes of leaving Anfield with anything today. The

throw-in, looking for Jordan Henderson. That was a nasty tackle

from the West Ham captain, Kevin Nolan, and the referee wants a word.

It is a straight red card for Kevin Nolan. Well spotted by Michael

Oliver. It was nasty. He stamped on his calf. Kevin Nolan said. -- sent

off. This is Luis Suarez. Away from Mark

Noble. Going for gold. Deflected, and in. It took a wicked deflection

on its way, off the shoulder of Joey O'Brien, and Jussi Jaaskelainen

completely wrong-footed. The final score at Anfield, Liverpool four,

West Ham United, one. We will look at the rest of those games from

yesterday, shortly. Jose Mourinho and Chelsea only five

points behind Arsenal but they have got to sort the defence out. They

have got to sort everything out. Manchester City on the road, they

have struggled. There are six contenders for the title, I think

that there are probably three, and Chelsea are still one of them. I

agree. Just me and Manchester City are favourites, for me, Arsenal fans

might nervously argue with that. Not quite sure about Arsenal but they

are up there at the moment. But Josie have got a strong squad. But

it is not quite going right for them at the moment. If Manchester City

can sort out the away form, they have got the best squad and the best

strikeforce. These next three weeks will tell us a lot. If Arsenal go to

the Etihad Stadium and get a result, the way that Manchester City

have played at home, it is like they are beatable. It is going to be

tough, for Arsenal. -- they are invincible. I think Arsenal fans, if

they can add an extra centre forward, that is the only position

in which they lack, if they can enhance what Olivier Giroud gives

them, they might have a real chance of winning the Premier League. He

had been saying that they have got no chance. The vote is now closed

for goal of the month. You will see the winner after the rest of

yesterday's games. Crystal Palace are on a roll, only

conceding one goal in the last five matches, winning three of them, but

it is now five games without a victory for Cardiff City. Cameron

Jerome as goal side and cannot get the shot away. Picked up by Jason

Puncheon. My stern, and the opening goal from Cameron Jerome. -- nice

turn. It is his first goal for since early federally, his first goal for

us to Palace and it is a huge goal for the London side. The curling

cross, it falls to Marouane Chamakh, and two goals in a week, for
