Arcelor is celebrating 100 years since they became a North London

club. -- Arsenal. Here in Cardiff the Welsh capital is buzzing for

the arrival of Spurs. Here we go - a new dawn of Manchester derbies.

Good evening and welcome to Match Of The Day 2. Four games played

today, three pundits in the studio today. We would get to the first of

our four games in a moment, but first in the last hour Sunderland

have announced they have parted company with Paolo Di Canio after

their loss yesterday. But first to be 156 Manchester derby. -- but

first to be 156th Manchester derby. Smalling will not be beaten easily,

but he will be beaten. Edgware Road! City are in the lead. --

Aguero. A lovely ball in and that is a

great finish from Aguero. A searing shot from Nasri.

Manchester United really need to sort themselves out.

There will be one more Manchester City corner before half-time.

There has been a lot between these two teams in the first half, but

City has been better. That is Aguero and that is at 3-0.

Manchester City are running away with the Derby!

Manchester City will surely not give anything away from here. What

a start to be greatest -- to the greatest rivalry between these two

teams. And it is Nasri! It is becoming a

battering. Two goals in the first half and two goals in the second

You do wonder if it would have been a very different game with a van

Persie on the field. -- wave of van Persie on the field.

That nearly wriggled through. It has happened before.

Rooney to take the United corner. Off the post. He dances his way

through. It has been blocked. Desperate city defending.

That was a terrific free kick, but it doesn't even get a smile. That

is the clean sheet from for a burton. That was a delicious start

for Rooney. it did look for a while as though it

was going in. I think they gave even thought it was. One manager's

Greenstock is another's nightmare. This results ensures that the city

will have a blue Monday. That has to have gone as well as you

could ever have expected it to. Yes, of course. Nobody believed it before

the game, but we have two trust, at least try it. From the first minute

we tried to be the team that had to be possession of the ball and tried

to score the goals. I think we had a lot of chances. We played really

well. We didn't play well enough to win the game, Manchester City played

well. They deserved the victory. We could never really stop them. We

allowed them to get a good service into the forward players. But we

hope to try and stem that tied in the second half when we came out, we

didn't. We got better as the game went on but by that time it was too

late. It's really special because we say to our rivals that this year

they were going to be a force. To win like that, it is special as

well. Our fans today, tomorrow, they are going to be happy, but for them

well. Our fans today, tomorrow, they at the most important game in the

year. To win it like this is always a special moment for them. There's a

long way to go in this season, we've just started. The history of

Manchester United and the players at this club, they bounce back and

continue to do well. You were at the game this afternoon, Michael. David

Moyes said Manchester United players were a second behind their

counterparts, is that fair? It is certainly fair, they could have been

two or three seconds behind them! For the first hour they were

dominant, they have the energy, strength, the pace. They beat

Manchester United to every ball. 4-0 was a fair result after 50 minutes.

Manchester United never got into the game. They brought Nathan Cleverly

on, they started getting men into their opponent's half, but it was

over by then. We thought it would have been a match decided by the

battle between Windows and fullbacks, although bizarrely it

happened in reverse. The combination, it didn't work all

afternoon. Particularly Valencia, particularly with Kolarov. He caused

him so many problems. Not once does Valencia know where Kolarov is. He

has to have more awareness about, he got away with it on this occasion.

This is the goal, so it happened once earlier. Look at the distance

between Valencia and Kolarov. Kolarov has to make up 20 or 30

yards past Valencia. Not once is he aware of him. He still hasn't got a

clue. No one is telling Valencia that Kolarov is on his way. And it

happened again. Great ball in, great finish. No marking. The dig is

saying, you have to keep an eye on this, it's happening too often. And

it did, ten or 15 minutes later. He is too slow to react here. No

communication at all. They get away with it. That caused them problems

in the first half. I felt it was a lack of

communication. He needed to see the runner, speak to Valencia. You've

been both a winger and a full-back. Alan was pointing out there are

players who are gesturing to Valencia in this, you don't

apportion all the blame to the winner. Rune as Valencia TrackBack,

he speaks to him. It is just winner. Rune as Valencia TrackBack,

literally moving in tandem with each other. Is ironic, because he tracks

back, he's trusted, you normally hear the manager screaming onto

nanny if he is playing that. He was nonexistent today. Let's go through

the other goals. You've all found faults with each one of them.

This is pretty basic in terms of Fellaini is marking Toure. He just

let him go, as basic as that. They actually do it quite well here. I

think David Moyes must have had a work with them at half-time. Verdict

is in a decent position. The ditch goes out of position but Rio

Ferdinand is out of position. He's got his body shape wrong. He needs

to see a Aguero coming in and play and Aguero can see his number, then

he's got problems. I'm looking Vidic here. He has to go and close Navas

down. He has to go across there. He's got to take the gamble or Navas

does what he did and takes it into the box and pick someone up. It's

fair to say, for Negredo to take Smalling into the six yard box

creates that space. It is players that score goals, not space. Vidic

has to go out there closing down, he's allowing Navas the freedom.

There were so many things wrong with United today. But there were so many

things right with Manchester City. You hope you get the impression just

how dominant they were. That was crucial for them. The spine was

brilliant, Kompany was brilliant, you could go right through the team.

The only guy who could come out with you could go right through the team.

any small amount of credit was Wayne Rooney. Kompany wasn't there last

week, came back in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen of,

they looked good in that game. They are a much better team with him in

it. He leads by example. I thought his performance today was huge. He

was in the right place at the right time. Big, strong reading of the

game there. Look at him battling with Rooney, he never lost the

battle all afternoon. He's got hold of him, Rooney has got hold of him,

he's not going to lose that battle. With all city's attacking players,

they look a much better team with Kompany in that team. He just seems

to let the whole team settled by his presence on the pitch. He was

totally dominant today with his pace and power at the back. Other players

actually went to him. He wins the ball here, wins it there, great

reading of the game. Just watch his reaction here. He wins it, he passes

it. Look at the determination to get up there, get into the box, to try

and play a part in a goal. Lovely ball back, all right, he doesn't get

there, but look at his determination. It's possibly his run

that makes Vidic not go out and close Navas down. He seen Kompany

running into the box and he's thinking, am I going to have to pick

him up? From a Manchester United point of view, there will be a lot

of headlines about this performance. Even maybe about this derby under

David Moyes. Maybe we should remember 24 years ago tomorrow, Alex

Ferguson lost his first Derby 5-1. Does that put the defeat into some

kind of context or was that too long ago? It is too long ago, but I don't

think it's time but huge panic at Manchester United. They've been

outplayed but they've showed in the last half-hour that they can mix it

with Manchester City. They played really well in the last half hour

period. They will be disappointed, they will need to lick their wounds.

To Wales next. Spurs won all their games against the newly promoted

clubs last season and have already beaten Palace this season, so could

they keep up that record at Cardiff? Standing in the way of Tottenham is

Stephen Caulker, who meet his old club for the first time since

leaving White Hart Lane this summer. The arrival of Christian

Eriksen provides Spurs with a midfield playmaker they've missed

since the departure of look Drake, as they assemble a genuinely

tightening challenging squad. Theophile-Catherine makes his debut.

Tottenham, who last won in Cardiff in April 1957, kicking from right to

left. That is a terrible backpass. I think

he's out of the box! That must have been a close thing. A terrible

backpass. All this is because Spurs went to narrow, the full-back got in

a pickle. Naughton got himself in trouble. Goodness me! That is so

close. The revelry only sees it wants in real time, but that was

very close. If the referee had given it then he would have been sent off.

A lovely run by Townsend. Soldado had slipped a yard off his marker.

Turner comes across and time is the challenge brilliantly. There were a

few eyebrows raised about Ben Turner, even amongst Cardiff fans,

would he stand up to the rigours of the Premier League? But he's been

brilliant for Cardiff so far this season.

The keeper has done well again. Marshall off balanced, got a big

left hand to block. Watch Soldado's touch here. Takes it away from the

defender supremely well. Caulker made an excellent block. That's a

fine stop in the end. That is just daft. He has conceded a

corner when there was absolutely no need to do that. He has given

Cardiff their first corner. What if you go Lloris doing here?

They've scored, but it won't count. It was a foul on the keeper. Turner

denied. What was Gunnarson doing here? He has pushed into the

goalkeeper. That contact alone was enough to set Lloris off balance.

Gunnarson is holding on the goalkeeper. It was a good decision

by the referee. I don't goalkeeper. It was a good decision

saw it. Apart from the self-imposed problems

once or twice at the back, this is the first problem Spurs have

received from Cardiff. Good reflex save from the rebound by

the goalkeeper, well done David Marshall.

To reflect effort by Sigurdsson, bending and dipping. Soldado really

met it with power as well. He's offside. A brilliant save, mind

you. What a game he's having! As the ball came back over, the flag was

raised against Soldado. Anyway, he didn't beat a goalkeeper bang in

form. Another fantastic stop. David

Marshall is having one of the games of his life. Really good goalkeeper.

That should have been a famous Cardiff winner. The game was there

for the taking. Cardiff have waited for a moment like this and when it

came, the chance was squandered. Everything was there, it just

needed more composure. Can they win in stoppage time? A

good run by Paulinho. Another piece of brilliant goalkeeping. He won't

forget this game in a hurry. It is in. Paulinho has won it in

stoppage time and Cardiff's brave resistance comes to an end!

What a vital goal! His first in the Premier League. How about that for

a finish? The result could only be a

Tottenham win today and it took time, but they could only be one

winner and it was asked. The boys were magnificent today playing

against a very good team. However, we should have had a goal. Goodison

had a chance in the second half as well. The referee has to be certain

regarding hands on the line? Absolutely. I don't have complaints

about that, but I do about the Absolutely. I don't have complaints

disallowed goal. You are watching from one ends, so you can't see

everything. You must be Peak sit? Absolutely. It is a bit sickening.

To get another away win his goods. We are quite consistent. -- is good.

We are quite consistent. On the Angles that we see, even

from this, it is still inconclusive. This is the clear angle for me.

Heat traps his arm and does not let him come clear. It is a clear foul.

As far as the other one is concerned, to be fair, he did not

have any complaints. We couldn't help quickly. Campbell should have

been more decisive. Look how close that is to be box. There's no way

you can be 100 % certain. A week or changed our minds about three times

office. Cardiff defended well. They are

very well organised. I think a lot of those shots you mentioned were

from a distance. On occasion, they had so many men behind the ball.

Even when they did strike from a distance, David Marshall made it

hard for them. They are really disciplined with their banks of

four. They are. They defend deep which -- they defend the wit well.

I have been a really impressed with Tottenham and Cardiff this season.

That is why it is a great result for Spurs. They created chances,

more chances I think in today's game than they have in any league

game this season. When they did get behind, Marshall was outstanding.

This was probably the pick of the bunch from Paulinho. It felt as if

the game was running out for Tottenham. This, for me just shows

Tottenham's championship chasing credentials. They just kept going.

They kept believing that the big chance of that goal would come.

Palace versus Swansea and all of Saturday's calls and incidents and

talk of Paolo Di Canio's sacking to come. Next though we will go to the

Emirates. This has become a new and fierce

rivalry. John Moxon kept a very close eye on this one.

Mesut Ozil is making his debut appearance.

Arsenal have a free kick. It is fairly central.

What a start to the season. Arsene Wenger has had some disappointment

with Theo Walcott dropping out today, but the arrival of Mesut

Ozil will make up for that. Cameron has got the bounds of the

ball and he could take advantage. - - bounce. The rebound is in.

Cameron a following up and the Stoke are level. -- Stoke.

No question about the free kick there.

There is some pushing and shoving going on in the box. Up goes

Mertesacker again. It has gone in any way! He certainly has the

important touch. I don't know whether it got another touch or not.

I suspect it probably didn't. It is Mertesacker. 2-1 Arsenal, 36

minutes. He has put Ozil in a good position

here. Gnabry set the play up for Ozil, but

he was there on hand to take the return pass. Just a pity about the

shot. Arsenal have only lost to of their last 20 Premier League games.

15 wins and three draws. The Gnabry showing some nice touches on that

side of the field. Dear me. Adams played a loose ball

across the field. It was a foul but the referee has given the advantage.

Gnabry was pulled down halfway inside the half. The referee chose

to let play go on because, to be honest, Joe Root was in a striking

position. Look at Joe Root. It is not the referee's fault. -- Giroud.

That warmed the palms of Szczesny. Marcuse' team have had plenty of the

ball since half-time but no end product. -- Mark Hughes.

Too long for him but the header did come in... It's dropped in. It is

Sagna. Where did he come from? It's another floating free from

Ozil. Bacary Sagna doesn't get very many but that is really well

directed header into the corner. many but that is really well

Nothing that Begovic do about that. Shawcross will come forward for the

corner. A little dummy there. The ball is out, is it? No. Goal kick

now. The flag didn't go up. Given away,

and here is Giroud with a chance, unselfish, played it to Ramsey. A

good save by Begovic. Giroud sets Ramsay appear. This

looked very much like number four... To win is always very

important. They did it today. It was two different parts, the second was

a bit more down to desire. In the end we got a very important win. I

don't think there have been many end we got a very important win. I

able to score three goals from the free kicks. We showed good courage

and determination to get back on level terms. I thought we were

valued for that. The second goal was disappointing. In the second half I

thought we were very much in the disappointing. In the second half I

affair. It's been three and a half years since that horrendous tackle

that almost finished his career. For him mentally to comeback was

thing. To come back physically from it as well, we all recognised what

an achievement that has been. Today we've seen what a good finish this

was for his first goal, and Arsenal's first goal. Throughout

this season he's been outstanding. He's proved himself physically, he's

proved himself to be a complete midfielder and has gone from

strength to strength. I think often Wenger recognises that as well. He

certainly does. The amount of time he is spending in the gym, the

strength of him now. If you look at players over the years, they do

change physically. Steven Gerrard is a great example. They come on, they

are reasonably weak and skinny to start with but they grow up into

real athletes. He's turning into that type of player. He can defend,

tackle and pass and this year he is starting to score goals. I'm

impressed with how he's been able to certainly lean into players more,

looking a lot stronger, taking the ball in tight situations. I think

he's been reluctant to do that over the last couple of seasons because I

don't think he's been confident enough, just since that injury. We

can see his range of passing, wonderfully hit crossfield ball.

Even in this later stage of the game, 90th minute, he wins the ball

back, gets the ball back from Giroud and create himself another

opportunity. Well, we talk about the and create himself another

strength and conditioning of Aaron Ramsey, and we've come and stood

over here to demonstrate this strength. Mark Hughes said he wasn't

happy with how Stoke defended the strength. Mark Hughes said he wasn't

set pieces. I can understand why. In the first half they had a warning

sign. Nzonzi is the first man in front, Wilson is behind. Mertesacker

gets in the middle. I'm going to point out that the positioning of

the body, both whether it is from Nzonzi on that first one... This is

the second corner they score from. It's Wilson who is in front with

Nzonzi behind. They give Mertesacker far too much room in there. This

time they obviously get punished. I mentioned body shape. Looking at

Wilson at the front, he's got to be face on. He is straight, so he can't

see what's happening in behind him, he can just see what's happening in

front of him. I've played that position all my career. Defending

the near post on corner. You've got to get yourself on a half turn. The

corner is coming in from here, so I've got to be able to look at the

ball from the corner but also look at my man in behind me. I've got to

get touched tight. In this case it was Mertesacker, they gave him too

much room. If you try and get across me. I am tempted. It's my job to

stop you doing that, so I can look at you and the ball coming in there.

On both occasions there they get it totally wrong. He is to square one,

he doesn't know where Mertesacker is. He can't look at the man and the

ball at the same time. Whereas if he was on the half term, he could look

there and there and feel where Mertesacker is. When you are

attacking a corner, if you can see the shirt number of the defender you

are going to get a run-up? Absolutely. Mertesacker did very

well. They had won five minutes previous and scored off this one. I

really want to try and have a bit of previous and scored off this one. I

a block. Maybe during the final game tonight. It's Crystal Palace against

Swansea. This season has already been emotional for Ian Holloway.

Some misplaced word means he has to watch from the stands. In contrast,

and like a truce one, Michael Laudrup has maintained a cool

exterior, despite his team's Brewer start. But a win at West Brom and a

draw at Liverpool are signs they are getting back to their old selves. He

will be wary, Swansea have lost their last five against opposition.

-- London opposition. The reality of trying to improve on

that mediocre start to the season starts here come against Crystal

Palace side who may well have targeted this type of game as one

they have to win if they are to avoid being relegated from this

level for the fifth time during the Premier League era. Palace were busy

right at the end of the transfer window, and three of the newcomers

make their full debuts. Guedioura and Bannan will try to bring some

extra quality into midfield. Michael Laudrup heavily rotated the team

which humbled Valencia. Five changes in total. A return from injury for

Ashley Williams. Jonjo Shelvey is back in midfield, after taking all

the headlines in last Monday's draw with Liverpool. And there a debut

for yet another Spaniard, Vazquez comes in for record signing Wilfried

Bony. They were too good for Valencia, but will Crystal Palace be

able to bring Swansea City back down to earth with a bump today?

It's a lovely ball back into the penalty area. Michu is there. Within

90 seconds, Swansea people -- Swansea City pick up where they left

off. They've carved a huge hole right down the heart of the Crystal

Palace back four. The ricochet favoured Michu, but when he got the

opportunity he made no mistake. It has been said Michu has had a slow

opportunity he made no mistake. It start to the season, but that his

third goal in six days. Ian Holloway has been bowled today, starting with

two strikers. Whatever the game plan was, it was torn up by Swansea City

within the opening 90 seconds. Palace are rattled already. That's a

very cheap concession from Gabbidon, who was a former Cardiff

City man. He will be particularly keen to do well here today.

At the moment, Crystal Palace are just trying to hang in there.

Shelvey with the corner this time. Chico Flores is off the woodwork.

Speroni with the punch away. Swansea City inches away from a second goal

within the opening three minutes. Chico Flores getting goal side of

his man. He was very unlucky. There is Ian Holloway, sitting out the

second match of his touchline ban today. He's actually watching the

game from behind the goal which Palace are currently defending.

That was a good challenge from Delaney. He believed it was, the

crowd believed it was but Kevin Friend has given the free kick.

That is possibly the worst set piece we've seen so far this season. Jonjo

Shelvey has it -- they mixed evening against Liverpool on Monday, scored

one, set up one, gave away two, and that's an interesting start here

today. Michael Laudrup wanted his team to make a high tempo start here

today. Michael Laudrup wanted his after what happened on Thursday, and

they've done just that. Inches away from a second goal.

Now the free kick will be given. Chico Flores is as demonstrative as

ever. It was strong play initially from Cameron to Rome am just the

slightest Talkback there Chico Flores. There's a committee in front

of the ball. It has been a remarkable

transformation for Swansea and it shows no sign of stopping. They do

get the corner. A brilliant save! That came out of

absolutely nothing. Swansea City strike early in both

the first and second half and it might be enough to win the game.

Very few people inside Selhurst Park can say that Swansea City do

not deserve a 2-0 lead. Moxey is already on a yellow card.

There is plenty of posturing on both sides. It is all a bit

unnecessary and dramatic. That should have been a Premier

League goal. Again, Crystal Palace left in tatters by some slick

Swansea playing. The flag is up. It will not count.

It just strayed offside. The Palace fans are still singing and still

trying to get behind their team. Swansea City take their second win

of the Premier League season with comparative ease. Ian Holloway

knows he has a huge job on to keep Crystal Palace in the Premier

League. A great week. It started with a difficult game against

Liverpool. This is our third game in six days. I can't believe house

after that first goal was. We talked all week about how they

played and past and about getting tight. I could have scored that, it

is just ridiculous. It is very disappointing. We have got a lot of

work to do. That was awful. Things are working. This is our second

away win in the league. The third one in four games. I think the

punishment is ridiculous. I have got to learn the hard way and there

was tough today. A good thing they would have dropped as farm with me

on this side encouraging them. I after the game I spoke to the

Swansea captain. It was a brilliant performance from us. If I were to

be critical, we could have scored more goals. It was a big week for

the club and we performed very well. What are the challenges for the

club when you have several games in a short space of time. We need to

recover as quickly as possible and get our bodies right. The plus

point is that you play rather than train. Definitely. There are not a

lot of footballers who like to train. We preferred games. When the

games are coming quick and fast, it is great. What's your opinion on

Michu? He is very clinical in front of the golf. -- the goal. He is

unhappy because he thought he should have scored more, but his

all-round performance was brilliant. Thank you for talking to us. Kevin,

what do you make of Ian Holloway's comments? He felt estranged by not

been on the touchline. He is trying to take the

performance away from the team. For me, when you are out there, you

should not be relying on your manager on the touchline. He said

he was excited, but that faded away. Swansea had a tough game on

Thursday in Spain. They have travelled back. They should have

been a few goals down, but they weren't. If you just turn this

around, their is no-one within 15 yards. Two centre halves of very

deep. He has got time to play a pass. There is no-one with him

whatsoever. That is what he said, his middle and back line were not

working. It just goes from bad to worse for Palace. Just look what

happens here. It is absolutely staggering. This is after four

minutes. It is so bad, it is incredible.

I spoke to Ashley Williams after the game and he talked about Michu.

He is playing in a different position to the one he played last

season. I think it is the position he wanted to play. He is everywhere.

He is wide, he is central, he touches the ball. He likes floating

everywhere and finding these pockets. As we see here, he has

picked up the ball and made up a couple of runs. He is always in the

box. He was instrumental in virtually everything today. Again,

finding that space, a great touch and a great strike. Alan

highlighted the fact that Crystal Palace gave him a lot of space, but

do we have to give him credit? He was outstanding with his position,

but he does know when to pass and went to shoot. That is the key to

Michu. It was a joy to watch him. He camps

of a wonderful display with a great goal. He does have a physical

presence. Let us go back to the story that we brought you at the

top of the show this evening and that is that Paolo Di Canio has

lost his job as Sunderland's head coach. It follows yesterday's

defeat at West Brom. They were beaten 3-0. West Brom fans, you

what excuse us if we talk more about Sunderland, but but that is

the story. Allen, or you -- are you surprised that he has gone? I am. I

am sure the powers that be did their homework before they hired

him and they knew what he's man- management techniques were like.

But to give him money to spend in the summer and then five games into

the season to so, I am sorry, but what we have seen so far is good

enough, we are sacking you. I am staggered. He was a gamble to give

him the job in the first place. Martin O'Neill did a decent job. I

think the gamble was, at seven games to go, let us see if he can

keep us up. He hasn't changed, he was like that at Swindon. I think

they want an impact. I think it was a short-term appointment. That

management style is what we believe has cost him his job. He apparently

management style is what we believe had a row with the players at

training today. It will be in the newspapers tomorrow. He said the

players had to come into training to clear the rubbish in their heads.

Who knows what is meant by that. Football is like a village. I have

heard players being disgruntled by what he has done. It hardly

surprises me is something else cropped up on the training ground.

But he had arguments with his players in his previous job. I go

back to the point, surely the guys at Sunderland knew that. He has not

changed, he is the same guy and his management style is the same. As we

pointed out earlier, he brought in at 14 players. The players who

signed new his management staff. He has questioned the players diets,

but whether their heart is in it. He has questioned them as people.

It is no surprise. They have also appointed a lot of backroom staff

that he brought in. I am presuming and the manager might come in and

whether the owner says you have to work with the bat Quinn guys he

already appointed to, it could cost them a fortune. Dash back be

backroom guys. -- back from Guy's. Gus Poor used also on the list,

which would mean we would have to fill the seat here on next week if

he got the job. Roberto di Matteo, Andre Villas-Boas and now Paolo Di

Canio have all lost their jobs after playing against West Brom. Man

United next week, incredible, isn't it? Surely not! Let's look at more

of Saturday's games. We will. With the two Merseyside clubs who went

into yesterday 's matches unbeaten. It's over the wall and it's a

brilliant save. Absolutely magnificent. Middle of the goal,

yes, but it was travelling quickly. Southampton have got a corner and

Liverpool are under pressure. It's in! Southampton have taken the lead!

You could just see that happening. Lovren is celebrating his first

Southampton goal. It is the first goal that Liverpool have conceded at

home in the Premier League this season. It is all their own fault.
