Good evening, welcome to Match of the Day 2. Two games from today and

three former internationals, all three really did play international

football, ready to get stuck in. We start with Manchester City against

Spurs. The face doesn't give away much, but you can sense Manuel

Pellegrini's frustration. City are a Jekyll and Hyde team. Now the

manager has vowed to put things right. Andre Villas-Boas has had

more to say, defending his team, his staff and lack of goals, he praised

Tottenham's travelling support, which they will need today. On paper

at least, Manchester City away is the toughest fixture in the Premier

League. Your commentator, Guy Mowbray. The numbers tell the story.

Five wins out of five, 20 goals scored, Manchester City's perfect

home record must be Tain Tained to -- maintained to win the title.

Lloris is back in goal for Spurs. Also returning are Kaboul, Sandro,

Lennon and Lamela. Spurs get the game started, keen to

continue enjoying life on the road. Six away games unbeaten. What a

dreadful start from Lloris. That advice has a go and Navas scores! 15

seconds! Incredible! Just incredible! Something's in the water

for goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment. Lloris has had

a shocker there. Spurs with an easy start to the game and it is

completely miskicked. He kept out Aguero, but what a place to put it

and what a finish from Navas. Lloris thought he redeemed himself - you

caught score from there, can you? Navas could. It is his first Premier

League goal and the fastest we have seen this season.

Turned off the line there. Should Pantilimon have cut this out? He got

something on it, but not enough. Aguero tried the cheeky chip. Lloris

not to be embarrassed this time. Aguero is in such form at the moment

and what a return ball from Negredo. Pauline owe did well to shake off

Yaya Toure. He was appealing for a pull back there. Anything here? Was

he just clipped by Yaya Toure? This might tell us. There may have been a

tap to the back of the left leg. He may just have forced him off

balance. Nasri down - ball was won by Sandro.

The City fans furious. That was more from the side. Sandro gets there. No

doubt that Sandro took a risk. There was a firm contact with the ball.

And the disbelief of Sammy Nasri and several thousand friends supporting

him. In old school football, there is nothing wrong with that

challenge. You see some penalised for a tackle from that angle. I

don't think any should be. It was well executed. There is a stoppage,

because Sandro as you can see is unwell - physically sick. Return to

the school yard, I think we need sawdust. It looks as though he wants

to continue. I don't know if that is the result of a knock or a blow to

the stomach he took, or whether he is under the weather. Manchester

City have a player missing through illness. Kolarov had to withdraw

after being named on the original substitutes' bench. Sandro is back

on to the field. Negredo won't get on that one. He

has scored in the last four home games for Manchester City.

Lloris blocks it and Negredo has to score. It is an own goal in the end.

It is 2-0 City. Negredo will celebrate, but it is not his goal.

Not for the record weeks o' -- books any way. Again Lloris is unfortunate

in that his palm goes straight to Negredo. The final touch it is poor

old Sandro. Off Kaboul on to Sandro and in. He really will feel sick

now! It's going to be tough to say the least for Tottenham from here.

Andre Villas-Boas said after the last game against Newcastle that his

team had no luck, the result was unfair. He might be thinking along

similar lines, but they can't deal with City when they streak forward

like this. Lloris holds, but Manchester City want a free kick.

They don't think that was an advantage played. There was a foul

being committed. Sandro again you know! Sandro can't stay on after

half time, can he? Kaboul misses it and Aguero scores.

All over before the break surely. Spurs being ripped apart. It is

another easy, easy goal. Navas is off. He has a look up, Kaboul has to

get something on it. Once he let the ball drift across him, Aguero is

there to pounce. 13 goals in his last 10 gamss and he scored two for

Argentina last week. Manchester City are again scoring for fun on their

own patch. Emmanuel Adebayor is on the Spurs

bench. He hasn't had a look in for Tottenham all season.

Aguero with his second! City with their fourth - there might be more

to come yet! Watch the man mountain go! So cool and calculating Negredo.

He saw that the better bet to score was Aguero, who doesn't miss much

these days. That has put the stamp on it - no way back for Tottenham

now. Manchester City get four at home again. And the reason why you

can see more goals being scored by the team in the lighter blue is

because of who they are up against, it is not like Spurs to shut up and

deal in damage-limitation. Nasri! That really would have

crowned it. That would have been the best of the lot. What about that for

skill? Almost embarrassed his French international colleague in the Spurs

goal. Andre Villas-Boas in theed by up to the match said -- the build up

to the match he felt the big game would suit his players. It could be

five and it is five. Negredo scores for the fifth home game in a row.

Manchester City are playing football on a different level to their

opponents. It could get embarrassing for Spurs - already is. Could get

ridiculous. Negredo is neighbouring -- - making the game look easy. He

spanked it home effortlessly. Dawson's done, Lloris scraps thin

air. Emmanuel Adebayor! A good save by

Pantilimon. What a chance it was for Emmanuel Adebayor. He kept his feet.

Just trying to slide it past the legs of keeper, but he takes some

beating. Far Nan dean owe has -- Fernandinho

has yet to score for City. I don't think he will get a better chance

all season. His 50th Premier League game in charge of Spurses - forget

about it! Navas for six. Spurs' hue hilliation

is complete. -- humiliation is completed. Goal number one scored

within seconds by Navas and now he makes it a half dozen just seconds

from the end. He gave Lloris the eyes and simply put the ball the

other way. Look away, Andre Villas-Boas. Manchester City have

been magnificent. Navas started, he finished it. The

afternoon is finally finished for Andre Villas-Boas, whose expression

tells the story. No team has won the Premier League title having lost

four of their first eleven since 1968. That team was Manchester City.

If they keep home form like this, they may do it again. They were

magnificent from the start and they have blown Spurs to bits. When you

see that at home again, does it make you think more about the away

problem? How do I say exactly the side. If you or everyone can review

all the matches that we play away and you will see how many chances we

have had to score and how many... How few chances the home team have.

But football is like this. That is why it is the most popular sport.

And we are sure we will win away. You have to sure to -- show to the

fans that we have a desire to come from a defeat in Sunderland and we

knew that would be difficult, because we knew to win we have to do

a big business away. And I think now we have a, the first game today was

nice. But we work and now we will can do well. After a start like

this, everything that you had in mind to go past this game goes down

the crane. Drain. It was difficult to start in this fashion. There is

not a lot of positives. We have to be ashamed of ourselves and we have

to react to a defeat like this. No team has won the title having lost

four games since 1968. Is it possible? I don't believe in

statistics. If you win all of the games from now until the end, maybe

we are going to win the Premier League.

This might prove Manuel Pellegrini's points on the

statistics, because bizarrely, after that game, Spurs actually had more

possession than Manchester City, although these statistics might

please Pellegrini Moore, city have 26 goals in their opening six home

games, a record shared with Sunderland from the 1935-36 season

and their home tally of goals is more than any other team home and

away. There is only one stat that matters, it is the one that says

6-0. I will put a massive cross through all of that! How good were

city and how bad was Spurs? Spurs were supposed to be the best away

team in the Premier League and for me, they didn't turn up, they were

very poor but having said that, to score six goals, to again scored

goals at home, they were magnificent, Manchester City and the

striking partnership, the options they have upfront, if they can get

their act together away from home, they can win the Premier League for

sure. Aguero and Negredo, as Peter said, outstanding. Arguably the best

partnership in world football at the moment. Wow. You have Suarez and

Sturridge, but on current form, can anyone beat it? The linkup play

between them is sensational. What they have done so well is they break

very quick. Samir Nasri should score but it is a fantastic tackle. Look

at Aguero, pace and power, low sense of gravity. He has been watching

rugby league. He is Sam Burgess reincarnated. They have both

strikers in the box. Aguero text Vertonghen that way, he doesn't know

where he is. Again, they are both in the box here. A great save by the

goalkeeper and it is an own goal but at least he is in there. They

complement each other. This is the perfect example of a great team goal

with pace. Yah your Toure into Negredo, great little lay-off, he

bursts through the centre of defence, great ball and great

finish. Seven seconds. Watch this, like Dennis Bergkamp from Negredo.

What a turn. And when they have started together, out of six games,

they have won five and when they haven't, they have only 12. Great

understanding and movement, which contrasted sharply with the Spurs

attacking movement. They bought Soldado for 25 million from

Valencia, he scored 59 goals for them and one was from outside the

penalty area, which tells everybody he is a box player and he needs

chances. These are the two guys that Robbie was just talking about. Look

at their touches. A lot of the time, they are in the box. Look at

Soldado. He has hardly had any touch in the box at all. That is why Spurs

are struggling to score goals. You have Aaron Lennon on the ball, you

have Erik Lamela on the ball, look where they are, there is no width

whatsoever. You have four guys and you can throw a blanket over them

and that was a common theme all afternoon. That is one of the

reasons they are struggling to score goals. This annoyed you. It really

did. Look at his lack of movement. When he lays the ball and he should

be sprinting into the middle of the goal and should be screaming when

the ball doesn't come in. And this is so easy for the defence, he is

not asking a question of the city back for, they are happy to let him

have the ball in his own half. It hasn't really worked for him all

season. It didn't change when they brought Adebayor on. Look where the

winners are. --the wingers are. They should be out there and getting the

ball into the box. Too much time on the ball, too many touches. If he

knocks the ball in, with one pass, he takes seven Manchester City

players out of the play and Aaron Lennon is in. And he doesn't pass

it. That is one of the reasons they are struggling. When I was

struggling to score goals, Bobby Robson told me he was not seeing

enough of my number. Everything, you are facing it up straight and making

it easy for defenders. You have the run in behind because defenders

don't like it and Soldado, on today's evidence, isn't doing that

and it is not just his fault, he needs help from his team-mates.

Later, we will see what to borage did yesterday again. Goalkeepers and

kicking is a theme -- borrow. --Artur Boruc. Take us through what

Hugo Lloris did wrong. He should have taken his time. He should then

have caught that ball, but having said that, the finish is incredible.

Couldn't do anything about that, but it is a mistake. Let me just to show

you what Manchester City did when they kicked off the second half.

This is what I think goalkeepers should do. The ball ends up with the

goalkeeper here. He takes a touch which is what Lloris should have

done and no option other than to kick the ball up the park. And you

might be able to attack from there. The same thing again, he doesn't

take a touch. Not the worst kick, certainly not a great kick but it

upset the defenders, they are all over the place. And it is a goal

just a minute afterwards. With the first one in particular, he said he

might have tried to kick the ball too hard, and we will see an example

of you kicking later on... It is a brilliant one. If you liked to chip

it, like a wedge. Not so much chipping it but when the ball comes

back to you, you have to hit it first time. If you try to control

it, the chances are that you will do what Lloris did. I always put aside

foot, to make sure the ball came away from the goal. I wasn't fussed,

I would kick it into touch, I would kick it up the park, I didn't care,

because my priority was to get the ball away from the goal. Today...

Just let me finish. Don't argue with him! I didn't mean it that way!

Managers want to play from the back, they want their goalkeepers to

play football now. We didn't do that when I played. Goalkeepers are

better with their feet but it is also taking a chance and I think

kicking into touch is certainly be better option. Sleaford finished?

You can carry on. All of yesterday's goals and incidents to

come after today's second game. Two former Celtic defenders, two

talented Scottish managers going head-to-head for the first time.

Malky Mackay has seen to it that Cardiff are no pushover but beating

today's opponents would top the lot. David Moyes remains in the shadow of

the most famous Glaswegian football manager of the lot. Still, his team

are beginning to look like that side, but to keep that going, they

need to get a result today. It is the first meeting in the top

division between these two since 1962. Since then, Manchester United

have won the title 15 times while Cardiff City are only now back at

this level, some 51 years later. Malky Mackay makes two changes for

the home side. Frazer Campbell, once of Manchester United, leads the

attack, while Jordon Mutch also starts. -- Fraizer come. Robin van

Persie misses the game with a groin problem. Vidic, Comcast against

Arsenal, misses this one, which gives Rio Ferdinand a first start

since September. Marouane Fellaini Anton cleverly fill the midfield

places vacated by the injured duo of Phil Jones and Michael Carrick.

Januzaj meets his fifth start of the season -- makes.

Won back by Fellaini but not legally. Spotted by the linesman, he

was the one who gave the decision. Jordon Mutch with the header,

getting up well. He has popped up with a couple of goals already this

season. He scored at Chelsea recently to give Cardiff the lead.

It didn't work for them day. And a right old tangle on the far

side involving Wayne Rooney. We are going to see a card for the first

time this afternoon. Wayne Rooney tangling with Jordon Mutch and he

took a kick on the back of the lake from Rooney there in the middle of

that tangle. Rooney's right leg just kicking the back of much. -- Mutch.

As if they need anything to raise the noise level in the stadium!

The ball in from Valencia. Rooney on the spin. And Manchester United are

ahead! Cardiff City pay for giving the ball away and Wayne Rooney puts

Manchester United in front after 15 minutes. It was Turner's tale of

woe, his pass out towards Andrew Taylor doesn't have the legs to

reach the full-back, and Wayne Rooney turning back, spinning and,

via a deflection, finding the bottom corner.

And Rooney now is into double figures for club and country this

season. It is a deflection that lists the ball up over David

Marshall. And it is a deflection off Medel.

Whipped in towards the far past, beaten away by Marshall, Fellaini

with the header. David Marshall, the Scottish International called into

action, a powerful header from Marouane Fellaini. Malky Mackay is

still mumbling and grumbling about the nature of the goal that Cardiff

City conceded. A rising drive from Odemwingie. That

has cost them stamping their feet in the main stand. -- got them.

A bit more like it for Malky Mackay and his team.

Campbell. A chance the Fraizer Campbell! 1-1! Straight through the

middle. Slicing Manchester United's team apart, and Campbell scores

against his old club. It is a goal that lifts the roof in Cardiff. It

was a tremendous pace and initially from Whittingham. The second ball is

good to Campbell is on side and he does not miss. -- and he is onside

and he does not miss. Beautifully taken. And it is game on here.

Cardiff City have taken the game to Manchester United at every available

opportunity. And Fraizer Campbell scores his third goal of the season.

David Moyes will settle for going in level at half-time, a chance to

regroup. Still time for someone to create a chance or two.

Medel swiftly across, but cannot stop the corner. Tb Rooney's

delivery and Manchester United back in front and the captain's got the

goal. Evra. Rooney scored the first and created the second and

Manchester United's lead is restored on the stroke of half time. Here it

is again as Evra gets in at the near post. And the person in closest

attendance was one of his own team mates. He got in ahead of Chris

Smalling. Nobody in a red shirt anywhere near him. And in Cardiff,

if they are going to get something from this match they're going to

have to do it the hard way. Januzaj trying to get clear of Caulker and

he is up ended. A good save by Marshall. Pushing it

behind for a corner. Manchester United threatening a third goal

here. Rooney with the corner into Smalling and this time, Marshall

blocks it with his thighs. Doesn't matter which part of your body you

save it with. Cardiff's colourful owner watching on.

Oh given away by Cleverley. And now it is with Campbell. Oh, it was a

beauty! Couldn't quite get it home. De Gea was beaten - off the he bar

and away. A misplaced pass from Cleverley and he almost paid the

price for it. A lovely piece of play from Campbell.

Welbeck! That was the chance to put the game to bed with just under ten

minutes to go. A great combination between the pair of them and Welbeck

sending it sailing over the top. A minute and a half remaining of the

90. Not long left for Cardiff to get something from this match.

They have given a good account of themselves. Noone goes down, free

kick. Smalling doesn't like it, but Manchester United need to

concentrate. Just touching the player's knee and Noone to the

ground. The referee not happy with what is

going on in the penalty area. I think Medel will be spoken to by the

referee and Fellaini getting involved there. Let's have a look.

Ooh and Medel clearly striking Fellaini before the ball came in.

Four minutes of added time and it is in! Cardiff City are level! And it's

Kim Bo Kyung. Cardiff left it late. It is in added time. The 91st minute

of the game. But Kim got his head to the ball first. Past a despairing

dive from De Gea. And Cardiff City, who have pushed and probed and taken

the game to Manchester United at every opportunity, have reward for

their endeavours. They're level for the second time in the game. And

Evra's goal is not going to be the winner after all. De Gea had to be

swift off his line there too. Rooney and rather than shoot, he

gives Marshall the opportunity to just drop down on to the ball. Well,

it looked as though Manchester United were going to win that one on

the counter. The chance to win the game goes begs. We were close, but

it's now happened in two games, Southampton and this game, where we

have dropped points in the last minute. But we gave away a stupid

free kick and from that we were organised and set up and the referee

stops the play and they get a half go at putting it in and then they

get a chance to take it again and we don't defend it well enough and he

puts in a good ball. Every single player has the same mentality, I'm

going to keep going right to the 95th minute, whatever it may be. The

Mag has -' manager has -- the manager has instilled that in us. It

was feisty at times. I think the ref called it right. I have seen

Rooney's one, certain referees may have sent him off. I have seen the

Medel and Fellaini one. I think Medel reaches up to his belly

button! When he raced his hand, I think it hit his shoulder. But then

Fellaini lowers his head into his face. I have respect for car

Cardiff. But we are Manchester United and I don't like to find any

exxus. We didn't show the way we play. We didn't create a chance

until Welbeck came on and the last one with Wayne. I don't think we

deserved more than a draw, the way we are playing, I know the goal was

coming, because we have conceded a soft free kick and you pay the

price. He was very honest. Were they a Manchester United side you

recognised? No, especially in the middle of the park. Fellaini and

Cleverley are good players, but to be a good Manchester United player

you have to be consistent week in, week out. I don't think they have.

Cleverley with the long hopeful ball. Short passing. Lack of

concentration. He wants the ball, but it is a terrible pass - first

time. No awareness what is around him. A great chip from Fraizer.

Here, a good tackle. This one - he's miles off it. He gets booked for

that one. This is Fellaini. If he is playing for Everton, I think he

drives into that space. But when he puts a Manchester United shirt on,

it doesn't look like he can cope. Do you think he is nervous? I think so.

It is a long pass into nobody. Here, I'm thinking of Keane and Robson,

Scholes, Butt. That is far too easy. One pass can take out four

Manchester United players. Cleverley has got to take his position off

Fellaini. He can cut out that pass. Yes, two great passes and this pass

is unbelievable. I don't think he could do it again! But for me it is

just not Manchester United consis tenty. This is Cleverley's passes. A

lot of square, a lot of back. The forward passes are unsuccessful. For

Fellaini, it is similar. Giving the ball away when you're trying to be

positive. Poor passes. You can compare to a 40-year-old guy who is

a Manchester United player, level of consis tenty, a bit of magic. What a

pass and this pass from Giggs is unbelievable. That for me is what

Manchester United are missing in the middle of the park, a Manchester

United player. The big question is are they Manchester players and what

is a Manchester United player. Not you, because they sold you! What is

a Manchester United player. You touched on it. You have got toer

performance each -- you have got to perform each game and be consistent

and be mentally strong. It takes time to settle in. I have seen loads

of great players coming into the club with big reputation and not

been able to handle it. We Fellaini we have to wait and see, he had a

slow start at Everton. Manchester United will give players time. But

he needs to improve. Mall exist Mackay -- mall bgy Mackay didn't

complain a b the tackle. The referee dealt with it. But not in the right

way in my opinion. It was a bad tackle and it should have been a red

card. It was probably he was frustrated, because Mutch gets in

front of him and he kicks out at him. The referee gives him a yellow

card, so he has seen something. If we has seen him kicking him it

should have been a red card. And he was Manchester United's best player

again. Yes, he scored that goal and then of course, he whips in a

fantastic cross for Evra. Evra unmarked. Going to run into that

space and without anyone getting near to him and we quill see -- will

see this one that won them the game with Arsenal. An identical position.

Different players. Rooney again taking the corner. Van Persie, the

same ball. Same runs as well. Yes, it is an identical goal, just

different players. David Moyes was annoyed with the goal they conceded

late on. As much for the foul as how they defended it. It is silly

mistakes and lack of concentration. The Cardiff player is going nowhere.

Just let him run and then Fellaini gets involved with Medel. Did he

elbow him first? He may have done. The referee stops the game. Everyone

switches off and Evra, the referee calls him over. Evra is over there

as captain. When he gets back, he is in a different position to where he

was before. He is switched off and sfood still. Kim runs past and

scores the goal. I have to ask another question - since when has

Manchester United done zonal marking on free kicks and corner kicks? For

me, mistakes, lack of concentration and the change in that cost them the

two points. Today showed the lack of depth in their squad. I think they

have a few squad players in that team. I think that was a team that

Fergie may have played in a League Cup game. Let's look at yesterday's

games with Artur Boruc. Peter, take it away. Do I have to? Yes. No this

is the way I think you deal with the ball coming back to you. You kick it

up the park. It gets to Boruc... Now, I have got no words. I don't

know what he is trying to do. Is he trying to do what you said earlier,

which is keep possession. Well he get an opportunity to clear the ball

and then another. And then his lack of skills is shown. You can't do

that. I no ewhat he is trying to do. He is trying not to give up

possession. He is trying to keep the ball. This what is he is trying to

do is, this is Joe Hart against Hull. It looks good. We see it from

a different angle. It looks good when it comes off. But there is no

need to doo that. What you do is you're running the risk of doing

what Boruc did. Goalkeepers are now footballers now than ever before.

They're part of the back four. And managers want keepers to be part of

it and it is fine if they can handle it. A lot of big clubs would look at

Reyna because of that. But for me, it is secure first. Be safe and get

the ball away. One touch bang. That is what you used to do. Here we go.

This is probably 93. A little touch, pick up one of my team mates. You

never meant that! But get it away from the goal. That is the main

priority. I think Boruc, when he is watching this for the umpteenth time

he will realise it wasn't the best idea. He has watched it and he will

see it again before the end of the show. For younger viewers, HD wasn't

available in 93. The second goal was a penalty. There is no doubt. He has

got hold of Mertesacker's shirt and the referee is on the spot and sees

that. It is the correct decision. Look you can see, he is definitely

got ahold of him, preventing him from going for the ball and Giroud

sticks it away with great xfd. -- great confidence. Right, here are

some more of yesterday's games now starting with the more controversial

ones. If our league is the best in the

world it is because of the passion, the goals the drama and the

controversy. So how about the games at Everton, Stoke and Hull as an

advert for English football? Clipped in by Gerrard, Coutinho and

it is in. Liverpool have scored inside five minutes. Coutinho

strikes. Is A chance at the back post and in! It is one each!

Mirallas pub sitting to the Liverpool net -- pumps it in. What a

start to the Merseyside derby. Seven start Liverpool this season, eight

goals. Luis Suarez. Nine goals. Everton one, Liverpool two, Luis

Suarez. That is a majestic free kick. That is just about perfection.

The last thing Suarez needed was that challenge. What does Phil Dowd

do with that? Kevin Mirallas took the Uruguayan out there. Suarez has

got there first and that is very high from Mirallas. It is going to

be a yellow card. Probably the least he could have expected.

Steven Gerrard jump with his elbow raised on Gareth Barry and Phil Dowd

has given Everton a free kick and the Everton players are very, very

unhappy about that. He hasn't actually made contact with the elbow

and that has probably saved him. It is anyone's. It is Lukaku! It is

2-2! Everton level, Lukaku scores! Goodison Park simply explodes. Claim

on -- Gaymon, 18 minutes to go. Lukaku scores! 3-2, Romelu Lukaku!

And Everton seven minutes away from winning this game. Look at the

delight. Gerrard with pace and in from Daniel

Sturridge. 3-3! And Liverpool have rescued it with 90 seconds to go.

What a game of football. Steven N'Zonzi is onside. Support

from Charlie Adam! Breakthrough. . Inside half an hour, Mark Hughes's

team in front. Just the 11th Stoke have scored all season and what a

cool finish that was. Wes Brown went flying in there.

Charlie Adam is down. Stoke are run happy at the challenge. It is a red

card for Wes Brown. Gus Poyet cannot believe it. Does he get the ball

first? He does. Look at the emotion from the Sunderland manager, he

can't believe the referee's decision.

Steven N'Zonzi has made the run. Here he is! 2-0, Stoke. Steven

N'Zonzi settles the nerves around the Britannia Stadium. The

Frenchman's second Premier League goal for the club might well seal

only a third win of the season. It is Yannick Bolasie. How long does

he want? Well, eventually the chance has gone. And he has followed

through with his challenge. Did he sleep here as he went in to make the

challenge? Yannick Bolasie is sent off. It means Keith Millen's men

have 12 minutes to hang on to what they have got, and they are down to

ten. Nicely done by Jerome. Dwight

Gayle. Back To The Future Rome. And a real chance, and a goal, and it is

Barry Bannan -- back to Jerome. Crystal Palace take the lead, two

minutes after being reduced to ten men. And Barry Bannan puts Crystal

Palace in front. And on their way to their first win since the end of

August. So important that Palace hang on to the extra two points.
